==Synopsis==

Ultra Magnus and the [[Autobot]]s crash land on [[Junkion]], where Galvatron catches up to Magnus and murders him, stealing the Autobot Matrix of Leadership for himself. He flies off to confront Unicron.

When Hot Rod and the other separated Autobots return from the [[Quintesson]] planet, the Junkions, led by Wreck-Gar, repair Ultra Magnus and reveal their planet of junk to be a giant spaceship. They head for Cybertron to combat Unicron.

Galvatron attempts to use the Matrix to make Unicron obey him, but the Matrix will not work for him. Unicron swallows Galvatron whole as he proceeds attack Cybertron. The Decepticons attempt to fight back, but to no avail.

The spaceship piloted by Hot Rod and Kup flies right into Unicron's eye, and Hot Rod confronts Galvatron from inside Unicron. They battle briefly, and as Galvatron attempts to crush Hot Rod by the neck, the Matrix begins to glow. Hot Rod takes a hold of it, and is changed into Rodimus Prime. Rodimus dispatches Galvatron, and then uses the Matrix to destroy Unicron. Rodimus tracks down the Autobots still inside of Unicron, and they escape out of Unicron's other eye just before he is completely destroyed. Rodimus Prime then leads the Autobots to reclaim their homeworld, easily dealing with the diminished Decepticons, and leading Cybertron into a new age of peace.

*Instead of providing the Autobots with a ship, as in the movie, Wreck-Gar turns the entire planet into a rocket ship in the comic. This would jibe with his line in the film about the Junkion Planet being a 'sleek sexy import with turbo handling'. At least, as much as any Junkion lines jibe with reality.

'''Dreamwave Productions''' was a fairly unknown independent comic book publisher when it obtained the ''Transformers'' license in 2001. For a time, there was gigantic buzz surrounding Dreamwave's relaunch of the Generation 1 title, even pushing it past Marvel and DC's top titles. Many comic book fans had been away from Transformers for a long time and were overjoyed to see highly detailed manga-style art driving a childhood favorite.

Dreamwave published a good deal of ''Transformers'' books, including many varied miniseries, before capitulating to the notoriously fickle comic-buying public. Towards the end of 2004 delays started getting more and more frequent. This was followed by rumors of writers and artists leaving because they weren't being paid, which were then confirmed. In early January 2005, Dreamwave declared bankruptcy, and there were no Transformers comics to be had for more than half of 2005.

Face front, True Believers! The merry mirthmakers at '''Marvel Comics''' brought you six scintillating years (1984-1990) of fabulous funnybooks starring the ever-lovin' Transformers! A mere 3 years later, those argumentative appliances struck back (and struck out, natch!) in "Transformers: Generation 2". Eons later, in the far-flung future of 2007, Marvel published New Avengers/Transformers, teaming Cybertron's Mightiest Robots with Earth's Mightiest Heroes!

Most of these Marvel mags were penned by one of two brilliant Bullpenners:
*"Blazing" [[Bob Budiansky]], who ably edited the original 4-issue limited series before becoming the first permanent writer of the ongoing series, and is credited with creating most of the backstory to the Transformers mythos, as well as writing most of the terrific tech specs that came with the Hasbro toys.
*"Senses-Shattering" [[Simon Furman]], who had been the main writer for the Marvel UK series before being asked by Budiansky to write for the US comic, as well. Furman wrote the last 25 issues of the original series, then battled back to pen all 12 issues of Generation 2.
