:Tailgate is an Autobot from the Generation 1 continuity family.

Tailgate is an Autobot scout, not so much for his skill (for he is mediocre at best) but for two unrelated reasons. First, his hood conceals a ridiculously powerful iron-cobalt magnet, which he can use to tailgate closely beside other vehicles and travel far into enemy territory without fuel. Second, his bizarre idées fixes make him extremely poor company for other Autobots.

Nobody knows where Tailgate got his screws knocked loose. Some say he was traumatized in a hazing ritual that went terribly wrong; others think it's simply the length of the war taking its toll. At any rate, he began causing problems soon after arriving on Earth, proclaiming speed limits to be an affront to liberty, and attempting to liberate "enslaved" household appliances from their alleged slavemasters. Nothing the veteran Autobots could do would dissuade him from his mad quest, or convince him of non-sentient machines on Earth. Eventually, it was decided to make him a scout, with strict orders not to break cover for any reason.

Still, every time he sees a bicycle chained to a pole, his spark burns hot with righteous anger. "Some day, my brothers will wear no chains," he thinks. "Some day, we shall break free!"
With the Autobots being framed by the Decepticon Trailer Brigade for numerous crimes, Kenji was feeling a bit dejected at how his schoolyard chums were suddenly turning on them. Tailgate appeared to give him a lift home from school and attempted to cheer him up, reminding him that as an Honorary Autobot he had nothing to worry about. Their drive was interrupted by a crowd gathering around a display put on by a pair of robed figures (secretly Rumble and Frenzy), decrying the Autobots and preaching the heroism of the Decepticons. The rest of the Autobots soon arrived to straighten things out. Fight! Super Robot Lifeform Transformers issue 7
Tailgate later responded to a distress signal sent from Powerglide, who was fighting to rescue a puppy that was brimming over with Decepticon super science from the Combaticons. Dying from its wounds, the dog transferred the super science into Powerglide, giving him brief access to Scramble Power. Tailgate was one of a group of Minibots stationed at the Ark in 2006. When the Constructicons built Trypticon out of a human city, Mount St. Hilary and the Ark were the first stop on his journey to destroy Metroplex. Tailgate and the other Autobots on duty rolled out to defend the Ark with all the firepower at their disposal. It didn't go very well. The Ark was left devastated in Trypticon's mighty wake, and Tailgate's troops were beaten and scattered by the colossal dinosaur. Five Faces of Darkness, Part 5
Tailgate was a bomb disposal 'bot in the Primal Vanguard, over six million years ago. Liars, A to D Part 2: Hangers On He was later meant to be on Nova Prime's Ark mission, but a rash detour saw him crippled in a pit at the Mitteous Plateau. According to him, if he wasn't there for the launch, the mission was doomed, and so he tried to detonate his energon rations in the hope of being detected. Despite passing out over and over, he did finally manage it... six million years later, outside the Lost Light launch, and he had a panic attack when he saw his explosion had damaged Whirl. The Autobots, not knowing who Tailgate was, took him on board the Light since he'd mentioned "the launch".
Liars, A to D Part 1: How to Say Goodbye and Mean It Ratchet had him carbon dated, bewildered by the antique systems he had.

When Tailgate came to (and seeing he hadn't killed "Nut-Job", as he mistakenly thought Whirl was called), he heard from Swerve just how long he'd been offline. Swerve ended up 'adopting' him as a mate, filling him in on the future and begging him to show off his alt mode. The two were caught up in an attack by strange robots chanting "nineteen eighty four", robots that Tailgate seemed quite interested in. Later, during a crew gathering, Swerve finally convinced Tailgate to attempt to transform.Liars, A to D Part 2: Hangers On

Tailgate got stuck during the transformation, leaving him temporarily without legs. A Sparkeater was reported to be on the loose aboard the Lost Light and Rodimus ordered everyone to pair off and lock themselves in habitation suites. Tailgate noticed his old crewmate Cyclonus and asked for some help getting to a room. Cyclonus carried the half-transformed Tailgate there and quite rudely dumped him on the ground. As the Sparkeater situation unfolded outside, the two former crew members of the original Ark discussed the six million year gap in history they missed. Cyclonus described the Autobot-Decepticon conflict to Tailgate as he understood it. Later in the medibay, as Ratchet was unsticking his half-transformed body, Tailgate declared that he would like to be a Decepticon! Liars, A to D Part 3: The Chaos of Warm Things
Impactor is the legendary former leader of the Wreckers, an elite Autobot strike team, and as such is a deadly force to be reckoned with on the battlefield. His body is covered with weaponry, from the tank cannon on his shoulder, to the missiles hidden in his chest, to the handgun strapped to his leg, and finally his signature harpoon weapon that replaces his right hand. His audacity and resolve is what puts him in the history books, for better or for worse.
Impactor's first officer, Springer, is inevitably his replacement, once terrible things occur. Springer's feelings regarding his filling of Impactor's immense shoes are always a source of angst. ===Marvel Comics UK continuity===

After the departure of Optimus Prime, Megatron and their troops from the war, Emirate Xaaron assigned the Wreckers to assassinate the warlord Trannis, who came into power in Megatron's absence. Impactor was chosen to lead this team. Though the assassination attempt was successful, other leaders quickly sprung up to take Trannis' place.

Though Impactor was dedicated to his troops, he was not so dedicated to his superiors, and was not above directly insulting them. Emirate Xaaron took this attitude in stride, and could give as well as he received. Impactor referred to the Autobot resistance leader as a "wily old buzzard," as he was often surprised by Xaaron's blunt yet indirect ways of making his point and getting what he wants. Despite this, their difficulties masked a genuine friendship.

Countless years later, after Optimus Prime and his Autobots had awoken on Earth, Impactor and the Wreckers were responsible for executing Operation: Volcano, a planned ambush of the Decepticons' fiercest warriors using Xaaron as bait. Ultra Magnus was assigned to the Wreckers to help them bolster their ranks for the mission, but he was quickly needed to travel to Earth to investigate the disappearance of Optimus Prime. Impactor's commitment to the mission wavered and he at first refused to deploy his team without Magnus there as back-up, but he changed his mind after a conversation with Xaaron. Impactor's doubts were further quelled when Xaaron convinced him that Springer, Broadside, and Sandstorm were an adequate replacement for Magnus, which Xaaron accomplished by having them disguise themselves as Decepticons and beat Impactor up. Operation: Volcano was once again on track.

Xaaron, the bait for the Wreckers' trap, was placed according to plan, but suddenly Megatron called his warriors to Earth, overriding all other commands, including the planned ambush on Xaaron. Disappointed that their trap was ruined, the Wreckers let down their guard long enough to allow an assassin named Macabre, ignoring Megatron's orders, to fire upon Xaaron. Impactor was the first to react and pushed Xaaron out of the way, taking the shots meant for the Autobot underground resistance leader. Immediately, the other Wreckers turned and fired upon Macabre, killing him, but Impactor was fatally wounded. With his last words he named Springer the next leader of the Wreckers before dying in Xaaron's arms, again calling him a "wily old buzzard." Target: 2006

Impactor's death would haunt several other Autobots for some time to come. Though he sought to deny it, Ultra Magnus felt guilty for not returning to Cybertron in time, and this led to his taking an excessive approach when dealing with Optimus Prime, whom intelligence reports stated was a traitor. Under Fire! Subsequently Magnus found a fight with Megatron proved the opportunity to release his pent-up aggression over Impactor's death. Resurrection!

Springer was also severely affected by Impactor's death, and felt inadequate in the shadow of his legacy. So when a rogue Autobot scientist named Flame discovered a way to reanimate dead Transformers, Springer was crippled from action when he was met with the reanimated corpse of Impactor. Legion of the Lost! His route to the kidnapped Wreckers and Xaaron blocked, he reluctantly fought his predecessor until Springer managed to jar Impactor into remembering his past life.
Before the war, Impactor was friends with fellow mine grunt, Megatron (and suffered his poetry). Impactor thought Megatron's nonviolent solutions to Cybertron's class warfare were cute, and reminded him that there would always be a pecking order, no matter how large or small the equation. Megatron's naivete were underscored when the lowly Rung was ganged up on by a much larger pair of military cadets and tossed across their table. Impactor, drunk, got up to deal with them the only way he thought mattered. Megatron was put off by the violence and stayed out of the fight, but was arrested anyway; Impactor was taken to Deltarian Medical Facility, but not before he'd torn the cadet's legs off and shoved them into a garbage grinder. Chaos Theory Part 1

After war broke out, Impactor became the first leader of the Wreckers and still holds the record as their longest-serving member to present day. It was he who coined the phrase "Wreck and Rule!" while saving Xaaron at the Sonic Canyons. Last Stand of the Wreckers issue 2 Impactor personally approached Springer in the midst of battle to recruit him into the Wreckers.

After a long string of suicide missions, Impactor became an alarmingly obsessed individual, especially regarding Squadron X, the team Megatron assembled in answer to the Wreckers. Impactor felt indirectly responsible for the atrocities Squadron X committed.

Impactor was inspired to replace his hand with a harpoon weapon after a run-in with a dimension-hopping "freelance peacekeeping agent." He picked up the nickname "Kiloton" for the number of Decepticons he slaughtered at The Battle for Hell's Point. Over time, his mental state became increasingly unstable, something both his superiors and his fellow Wreckers chose to ignore. Last Stand of the Wreckers issue 5

After chasing Squadron X across the galaxy, the Wreckers' rivalry with them came to an end on the planet Pova. The Wreckers, however, found themselves in a bad way after Impactor's first officer, Springer, was trapped under some collapsed rubble. Despite Springer's pleas, Impactor used Springer's own body as a shield against Squadron X's advancing troops, firing through it. This helped turn the tide, and the Wreckers rounded up all of Squadron X for transport offworld. Unfortunately, Impactor snapped when Prowl told him that Pova was neutral territory, and that he was ordered to set them free or else the Autobots would face diplomatic repercussions. Impactor personally executed every member of Squadron X while they were restrained. Last Stand of the Wreckers issue 5

Springer testified against Impactor, and the disgraced Wreckers leader was imprisoned on Garrus-9. A cover story for what happened on Pova was released which involved Springer suggesting Impactor fire through his torso and Squadron X later escaping their restraints, necessitating their execution. Last Stand of the Wreckers issue 4 As extra punishment for refusing to show remorse for what he'd done, Impactor was not granted the mercy of spark removal, and instead was imprisoned normally.

Twenty years later, Overlord seized control of G-9, and Springer's Wreckers were sent to liberate it. Springer was trying hard not to think of Impactor. Last Stand of the Wreckers issue 1 However, the Decepticon Snare, wanting Overlord gone, released Impactor from his cell in the hope he could escape the planet and get help. Last Stand of the Wreckers issue 2 As the current-day Wreckers arrived at Garrus-9, a decrepit Decepticon dropship blocked their path. It exploded before their eyes, but not before the battered form of Impactor ejected from the craft. Appearing before the shocked Wreckers, Impactor sneered, requesting to be let aboard. Last Stand of the Wreckers issue 1

He filled the new Wreckers in on the situation and how he'd escaped, while continuing to clash with Springer. He not only refused to recognize his former soldier was now in charge, he snarled that he used to think Springer would've done the same thing Impactor himself did on Pova...and was now sickened that Springer wouldn't. Conflict aside, Springer knew Impactor was needed for the mission. Given a new harpoon/hand, he was placed in Springer's drop-team and deployed to G-9...and he recognized, with visible glumness, the name of their secondary objective, "Aequitas".

Descending towards G-9 in two ejected escape pods, they met with tough Decepticon resistance. Despite their maneuvering, Impactor's ship was the first to go down, though the other wasn't far behind. Last Stand of the Wreckers issue 2 After their crash-landing, Impactor led them towards where the Autobot prisoners were being held. Cell Block G was directly below him, best he recalled, but Twin Twist's drilling only sent them tumbling into a large, empty chamber. At the bottom, Impactor found the twisted remains of Kick-Off, whom he regarded as one of the few guards who treated G-9's prisoners with respect. Their presence in this chamber signaled G-9's defenses, and after he, Springer, and Twin Twist were electrocuted, they woke up strapped to tables in the care of Stalker. A sadist, Stalker grabbed his tools of torture and gleefully went to work on them. Last Stand of the Wreckers issue 3

Unlike Springer and Twin Twist, Impactor had grown used to the Decepticons' methods in the time since their takeover of G-9, so he alone managed to stay online during Stalker's "work". Twin Twist was looking terrible and mangled, and Springer had just woken up when he and Impactor began talking about their murky past. Impactor accused Springer of betraying the Wreckers with the testimony against him, while Springer was surprised to learn that Impactor still had no remorse for what he'd done. So long as Impactor refused to realize that he'd done wrong, their feelings were at an impasse.

Stalker returned with a new torture device, but his work on Twin Twist was interrupted when his brother Topspin sacrificed his own life elsewhere, extinguishing both sparks. Disappointed, Stalker turned his attentions to Impactor, but was again interrupted. Kup, Guzzle, and the turncoat Decepticon Snare blasted into Stalker's lair. Snare was mortally wounded in the following skirmish, and Stalker was killed. As Snare lay dying, Impactor questioned him, wondering why the Decepticon had saved them. Snare told them that Overlord was on his way and asked that he himself be killed, which Impactor did curtly before Snare could finish his final words.

True to Snare's last warning, Overlord arrived with a boom. Unknown to them, elsewhere, the other half of the Wreckers had completed their objective by hacking the supercomputer judge Aequitas and downloading it into Ironfist's brain. They were surrounded by Decepticons whom they could easily deal with if they simply signaled all the deterrence chips in their heads, killing them. But they knew this would also kill Impactor, who was also an ex-prisoner, and so his and their fate came to a vote. Perceptor voted for killing him for the sake of many, Pyro voted against, and...Ironfist, Impactor's greatest fanboy and new host to Aequitas's judgment of Impactor, came to the sad realization that his hero very much deserved to die. Last Stand of the Wreckers issue 4

Fortunately for Impactor (and the Wreckers), Verity Carlo convinced the others to spare Impactor. After Overlord pulled Guzzle apart and used the pieces to put Kup down, Impactor removed Overlord's eye with his harpoon. In response, Overlord stomped Impactor into the ground, forcing him offline.

When Impactor came to, Overlord had been reduced to a flaming skeleton facing only the fragile Verity Carlo. Impactor blasted Overlord's arm off and attacked him, but Overlord had lost the will to fight, as he'd learned that Megatron had perished, robbing Overlord of his final showdown with him. Overlord beckoned Impactor to kill him, but Impactor refused. In honor of Springer, whom Impactor thought had died, the former Wreckers commander promised that Overlord would serve trial as a criminal, and himself finally came to terms with the crimes he committed on Pova.

Impactor was pardoned in exchange for his help retaking Garrus-9, and he immediately left for parts unknown on a shuttle with the repaired Guzzle. Last Stand of the Wreckers issue 5
Notes
*According to Dreadwind in issue #221's letters page, Impactor transformed into an "earth-boring vehicle". In the letter page to issue #238, Dreadwind clarified that he transformed into a drill tank but didn't have an earth mode. Later, in Last Stand of the Wreckers, he transformed into a non-drill tank. Later still, but earlier in IDW's timeline, he gained a drill replacement for his hand.
*In the Marvel comics, Impactor's right hand can be interchanged for a harpoon. This emulates the wrist-launcher gimmick found in many Diaclone-based toys. He is frequently seen carrying a club which looks an awful lot like a gun barrel, and which may be a gun attachment for his right arm; but being Impactor, he only ever uses it to smack guys around.
When the Insecticons attacked an inhabited city on Earth, Optimus Prime called upon the Protectobots to evacuate the civilians caught in the crossfire. Streetwise was carrying civilians when he discovered an injured man and called First Aid over to help him. Later, as Earth's orbit was diverted to the Sun by the Combaticons, Streetwise and Groove commandeered a meat locker to keep the overheated humans cool. Streetwise assured Groove that given the constantly rising temperatures outside, the humans would not freeze to death. The Revenge of Bruticus

Streetwise, as part of Defensor, totally blew up Bruticus. Afterward, he was with the Protectobots when they saved some window-washers from a burning skyscraper, catching the humans when Blades blew them off their platform. Later still, Streetwise and the other Protectobots were ordered to help defend Autobot Headquarters from a Decepticon attack. They merged into Defensor and activated his useless force field, which almost immediately deactivated, allowing the Decepticons to blast Defensor back into his component parts. {{storylink|B.O.T. Streetwise was among the Autobots who battled the Sweeps when Cybertron came under attack from the Decepticons and Quintessons in 2005. Five Faces of Darkness, Part 5
In the year 2006, the Autobots were asked to help the Dutch authorities deal with French rebels. After dispersing the human aggressors by crashing a trash can into them, the Protectobots came under attack from the Decepticons. Streetwise expressed concern that the Decepticons didn't care how many innocent humans they killed so long as they destroyed the Protectobots. Later, it turned out the battle was only a diversion to allow Swindle to steal Metroplex's transformation cog, First Aid left the Autobots when he failed to stop the theft. Unfortunately, just as First Aid left, the Autobots were called upon to deal with a rampaging Trypticon. Hot Spot ordered the remaining Protectobots to combine into Defensor, and they successfully saved a train full of civilians, even without First Aid. The Ultimate Weapon

Later in 2006, the Protectobots arrived at the aftermath of the battle between the Technobots and Terrorcons at Mark Morgan's laboratory. They transported the injured Jessica Morgan to County General Hospital and watched over her as the doctors restored her ability to walk with an exo-skeletal structure, enraging the robo-phobic senior Morgan. This had negative consequences. What a jerkface. The Return of Optimus Prime, Part 1
When Cybertron came under attack from the Decepticons again, the Protectobots and Ultra Magnus surrounded Galvatron and showered him in laser fire. They might even have defeated the tyrant if they hadn't been blown away by Scorponok's forces. The Rebirth, Part 3
When the Stunticons attacked a baseball stadium, Kenji alerted the Autobot combiners that they were needed. As the Protectobots arrived, Streetwise got the humans to safety while Hot Spot extinguished the blaze caused by the Decepticons. They transformed into Defensor, but Hot Spot was damaged in a savage attack by Menasor and Bruticus, leaving the Protectobots unable to combine. Seizing upon an idea, Kenji told Superion to shoot out the Decepticons' legs. Streetwise and First Aid then swooped in and combined with Bruticus, while their comrades did the same with Menasor. With their own legs out of control, the Decepticon combiners were tossed out over the ocean by their own limbs. {{storylink|Fight! Super Robot Lifeform Transformers issue 5|Fight!
Streetwise and the Protectobots participated in the Scramble City project under Ultra Magnus's direction, working towards the construction of Metroplex. After the Decepticons uncovered their secret building site, the Protectobots rode into battle alongside the newly completed Metroplex. Streetwise and his comrades arrived and formed Defensor just in time to act as the harbinger of Metroplex and his really big gun. Scramble City: Mobilization
The Great Transformer War comic
Streetwise and the Protectobots joined forces with the Aerialbots for a raid on Trypticon. They intended to rescue Doctor Dalton, a scientist Galvatron had kidnapped in order to force him to use his knowledge to upgrade the Decepticons. The Aerialbots, as Superion, charged in first, but were torn to shreds by the Combaticons and Stunticons. Hot Spot went to work in his repair bay mode fixing them up, and tasked Blades with infiltrating Trypticon to recover the missing scientist. In the meantime, it was up to Streetwise, Groove and First Aid to keep Bruticus and Menasor occupied long enough for Hot Spot and Blades to complete their missions. Soon, the revived Aerialbots stepped in to save their Protectobot comrades, and Blades successfully freed the doctor from the Decepticons whle they were distracted watching the battle. The Great Transformer War issue 1

The Headmasters cartoon
In 2011, Galvatron attacked Cybertron looking to take control of Vector Sigma. Streetwise and the Protectobots were active in Cybertron's defense as Defensor during the assault. Four Warriors Come out of the Sky The Mystery of Planet Master Later, Streetwise's team assembled on Earth at Ultra Magnus's command. Their mission was to stop the Decepticons from interfering with Hot Rod and the Headmasters, who were searching for the hidden location of the Matrix of Leadership. On a security sweep, the Protectobots ran across their old nemeses, the Combaticons, and went into battle. The two teams quickly assumed their combined forms as Bruticus and Defensor, as the fighting escalated. Birth of the Fantastic Double Prime

When Galvatron made another strike on Cybertron, this time to steal the super-metal Cybertonuron, Streetwise and the Protectobots assembled before the Space Bridge on Earth to be transported into battle. Seeking out the Combaticons on the battlefield, the Protectobots soon formed Defensor and fought once more with Bruticus. Cybertron Is in Grave Danger, Part 1 Defensor and Bruticus's battle continued as Defensor delivered a devastating smash to Bruticus's back. For at least part of the battle, the two teams disassembled again for man-to-man combat, Cybertron Is in Grave Danger, Part 2

Streetwise and the Protectobots were dispatched to Peru with the Trainbots when a volcano erupted, leaving a mountainside village in dire peril. Their rescue mission was blocked by the Predacons. Shōki and the Trainbots occupied the fiends so that the Protectobots could proceed on to the village and protect the innocent lives. Nevertheless, the Protectobots failed to reach the village, as they were intercepted by the Decepticons' second wave, the Headmasters. Streetwise and the Protectobots briefly struggled with the Headmasters before forming Defensor, but that left them grouped together and vulnerable to an underhanded attack. Defensor was taken out of action by Mindwipe's paralysis ray, which was strong enough to force Streetwise and the Protectobots apart and leave them completely immobilized. The Dormant Volcano Mysteriously Erupts

Streetwise and the Protectobots were part of a strike team that flew to the moon to disrupt Scorponok's gathering of Decepticons. They immediately formed Defensor upon entering the battle. Return of the Immortal Emperor When the planet Sandra sent out a distress call asking for energy, the Autobots of Earth responded. While they were loading the Trainbots full of supplies, however, Galvatron and the Decepticons arrived to take the energy for themselves. Streetwise and the Protectobots fought back against the enemy, and formed Defensor to counter Devastator on the battlefield. SOS from Planet Sandra

After the death of Ultra Magnus, the Autobots were desperately trying to pick up the slack during Sixshot's campaign of destruction around the globe. Streetwise and the Protectobots assembled as Defensor to go out and confront Sixshot at one of the attack sites, but they apparently didn't fare too well. The Emperor of Destruction Vanishes on an Iceberg When the Decepticons seemingly abandoned Earth, Streetwise and the Protectobots assisted Spike in rebuilding the planet after the enemy's departure. On one occasion, they located Sixshot's old command base. By combining into Defensor, the Protectobots helped Raiden and Computron obliterate the base, wiping out all trace of the Decepticons' presence. Miraculous Warriors, Targetmasters (Part 1)

Following a lengthy period of inactivity, the Decepticons renewed their attacks on Earth. With Fortress still off in space, Spike Witwicky dispatched Streetwise and the Protectobots to attend to the threats. In Canberra, Australia, the Protectobots confronted Bruticus at one of Scorponok's new Death Towers. As Defensor, the Protectobots were beaten severely by Bruticus, and First Aid was even knocked out of the arm socket. Using Scramble Power, Defensor switched Streetwise up to his shoulder and reattached First Aid as a leg, still carrying his fireball cannon. Despite this cunning(?) trick, Defensor was defeated by Bruticus. The Final Showdown on Earth (Part 1) As part of Defensor, Streetwise participated in the Autobots final battle with Scorponok's Decepticons at the North Pole. Though Buster Witwicky had given the Creation Matrix back to Optimus Prime, its influence was still present in his mind. He and Prime had their minds connected to a machine, where they shared a vision of a "Second Generation" of Transformers. Streetwise was the member of the Protectobots, one of four Special Teams. In this vision, Streetwise and his fellow Protectobots combined into Defensor and fought the Decepticons Bruticus and Menasor. But Megatron and Soundwave were listening in on this vision, and both sides planned to make it reality. Second Generation!

On their first mission, the Protectobots joined Optimus Prime in protecting Energy Futures Industries and the hydrothermocline from Megatron and the Combaticons. After agreeing to battle for the prize in a virtual reality so that neither the hydrothermocline nor innocent bystanders would be harmed, Optimus and the Protectobots entered the bizarre landscape of Multi-World. Searching for the Combaticons, Streetwise and First Aid entered Vineland. On a hunch, Streetwise chose to lift a falling web of vines out of their path instead of blasting through it. This left them open to attack by Brawl and Swindle, but it also earned the respect of the living vines populating Vineland, who entangled the Combaticons long enough for the Protectobots to beat their opponents. Streetwise did so by shattering the enemies with his air-compressor cannon after First Aid crystallized them. Afterdeath!

After the Multi-World battle led to the death of Optimus Prime, Streetwise watched with the other active Autobots as Ratchet attempted to bring their leader back to life. This failed, and so Streetwise and the Protectobots escorted Optimus Prime's body to his funeral site, where he would be launched into space. Funeral for a Friend! The Protectobots fell under the command of Grimlock. They were sent to capture the deserter Blaster, which led to another confrontation with the Combaticons in a used car lot. During the battle, Streetwise blinded Vortex with his photon pistol. Used Autobots They successfully arrested Blaster, but ran into the Combaticons yet again while Streetwise was reporting the mission results to the Ark. This battle went poorly compared to the past ones, as the Protectobots were defeated by Bruticus, the Combaticons' combined form. Child's Play (issue)

Later, Streetwise helped a young boy teach Starscream the meaning of Christmas. Okay, so actually he was trying to shoot Starscream. And sure, Starscream didn't actually learn the meaning of Christmas so much as deliberately fake it in order to piss off Streetwise because the humans liked him better than the Autobot. But still... holiday spirit and all that. Stargazing
When Optimus Prime and Grimlock discovered the threat of the Cybertronians, they called in Autobots scattered across the galaxy, including Streetwise. And, when Grimlock chose to disobey Prime's directives and make a tactical first strike against Jhiaxus's ships, Streetwise went with him. During the so-called Dark Ages, when Optimus Prime and Megatron vanished in a space bridge accident, Streetwise stuck with his Protectobot team after the signing of the Crisis Intervention Accord. Whilst in their base at Iacon, Streetwise reported the rumour of the Ultracon Devastator having been unleashed in the Tagan Heights against Springer's Wreckers. Deciding that they could not afford to ignore this or let the combiner arms race begin once again, the Proctectobots rolled out to assist the Wreckers. Arriving in Tagan Heights, they formed the mighty Defensor and the battle of the titans was on. Escalation (Dreamwave) Unfortunately, they could not control Defensor's dim-witted battle lust, and were forced to separate and find a less destructive means of taking down Devastator. While Devastator manhandled Springer, the Protectobots hooked him up to a nearby power generator. With the Ultracon was distracted, Streetwise threw the switch, overloading the enemy combiner and forcing him to separate into the individual Constructicons. Devastation (Dreamwave)

Whilst the Protectobots were trying to figure out what went wrong during the battle in their combined form, the Chaos Trinity, minions of the mysterious being known as The Fallen, attacked. Millions of years later, the Protectobots battled Menasor as Defensor when the Stunticons escaped from a penal facility... and lost, big time. Passive Aggression Defensor later aided in the Autobot insurrection. Revelation (War and Peace) After the Autobots regained power, Streetwise and the Protectobots searched Shockwave's clone lab, finding Runabout and Runamuck barely alive, having been attacked by an unknown assailant. Streetwise was seen reporting in on their progress. Black Sunshine
IDW comics continuity
Streetwise was one of many Autobot survivors who made it through Megatron's all-out attack on their defense network. In the two years following the attack, he made his way to Earth and united with Optimus Prime and the Autobots stationed there. In order to keep an eye on the humans, Streetwise and Prowl infiltrated the police force in their alternate modes. Both were present for an emergency response to Breakdown attacking a power plant. The robot hunters of Skywatch arrived and disabled the Decepticon, but then proceeded as if they were going to execute him on the scene. Despite Streetwise's words of caution, Prowl transformed to stop the execution and was captured. Streetwise maintained his cover and reported the incident back to Prime. ...For All Mankind

Later, Streetwise was among the Autobots who remained on Earth along with Prowl, Ultra Magnus, and Bumblebee (as well as others) instead of accompanying Optimus and the rest of the Autobots to Cybertron to find out what Galvatron was up to. He participated in an investigation of Spike Witwicky's "secret" activities by taking turns trailing the human in his alt form along with Prowl. Prowl and Streetwise followed Spike to a suburban district. However, when Breakdown appeared and attempted to kill Spike by running him over, Streetwise converted to primary form and attacked the Decepticon, much to Prowl's chagrin. Breakdown was damaged and forced to retreat. Prowl and Streetwise then returned to base, where both of them were harshly reprimanded by Ultra Magnus. Police Action: Part 1

Wings of Honor
After Cybertron entered its new Golden Age, the war between the Autobots and Decepticons still raged in space and on Earth. Defensor was permanently destroyed in battle with his nemesis, Menasor. Only Streetwise managed to survive the colossal damage Defensor suffered. He swore revenge against the last surviving Stunticon: Breakdown. Generation 2: Redux
He can also form a limb of any Scramble City-style combiner, but his usual place is as Defensor's left leg.

: This mold is unique amongst Scramble City-style combiner limbs in that he has a "normal" robot head that does not also function as a connector peg; instead he features a fold-out connector peg to attach him to Hot Spot. He is also unique amongst the Protectobots in that he is the only one who does not have a "second wave" variation, as well as the only limb-bot whose pistol doesn't have a horizontal grip. Subsequent releases of him in the "Classics" line omitted the rub sign gimmick.
The reason for the cancellation is unclear; it's possible they were considered redundant product due to the Aerialbot and Combaticon re-releases, especially since Hasbro was putting out entirely new-mold Transformers then, and would most likely have wanted those to have as much shelf space in toy aisles as possible.

Senator Decimus is, for the most part, a rich jerk. It's not exactly his fault, as he's a product of his times. He certainly lacks the scheming and ambition of his fellow senator Ratbat, but like most members of the Senate from his time period, he's simply lost touch with anything but maintaining the comfortable lifestyle to which he's become accustomed. In another era, he'd simply be a harmless dignitary, but with the class struggle erupting from his continued automation of the asteroid energon mines, he's sitting on a powder-keg just waiting to blow.

Fiction
IDW comics continuity
Following an assassination attempt on Nominus Prime, Decimus and the other Senators knew they had to take action against future terrorism. As Senator Proteus was gathering support for the "Clampdown", which would allow them to weed out Senate detractors by placing more restrictions on Cybertron's populace, Orion Pax bursted into the Grand Imperium chamber. Decimus was offended by the interruption, but Orion didn't care. Chaos Theory Part 2

A routine procedural appearance turned dangerous when Decimus announced the facility re-designation terms for Mining Outpost C-12. An energy-pick flung by disgruntled miner Megatron nearly cost him an arm, and the subsequent mutiny on the penal transport left him stranded in space and in need of rescue by Autobot Security Services. Megatron Origin issue 1

Of course, one of the cardinal rules in pre-war Cybertron is that the energon must flow. Thus, Decimus's valiant efforts to keep the supply up (albeit mostly in senate hands) earned him a fetching statue of his likeness and a parade in his honor. It would have been quite nice if he hadn't been abducted by the Seekers during this parade and taken straight to Megatron.

Then, in front of the teeming crowds that frequent Kaon's illegal pit fights, Megatron intended to make Decimus the first casualty of a new war that would make the entire planet his arena. Megatron Origin issue 3

The esteemed members of the Senate were held to be the honorable descendants of the progenitors and custodians of the sacred Primal lienage. In Cybertron's early age, the 113th Cybertronian Senate went into a private session at the Grand Imperium in order to address the matter of Nominus Prime's assassination by terrorists. They decided that head of security, Sentinel Prime was to find the perpetrators of this attack and decided to forgo the rights of the citizens by initiating a Clampdown. Their session was interrupted by the arrival of a security officer known as Orion Pax who spoke out against the corruption. However, the outraged Senate had Sentinel Prime place the officer under arrest and removed from the Grand Imperium. One Senator, however, prevented Pax from being sent to prison and confessed to him that a faction within the Senate was responsible for Nominus Prime's death and were seeking to control the Creation Matrix for their own motivations. Chaos Theory Part 2

Just prior to the Great War, the Senate had grown rich and corrupt, making only conciliatory gestures to their constituents while hoarding energon and manipulating the commerce of Cybertron to their advantage. One of the main projects that had resulted from this was the increased automation of the asteroid energon mines. Sentinel Prime appeared well aware that the Senate was out for itself, and held a rather low opinion of them as a whole. As part of Megatron's takeover for Kaon, the Kaon Senate's guards were subverted and assisted Starscream, who claimed to be snitching to the Senators, in wiping out the entire body (bar Ratchet) in one swoop. Megatron Origin

The Senate's status following the devastation of Cybertron is unknown, but things did not look good for them.
*As Megatron Origin was based on the decline of the Roman Empire, the Senate was most likely based on the Roman Senate. This tells us nothing of how the Senators were elected, however, as Roman Senators were former Roman magistrates, and since Primes appear to be lifetime appointments, it's unlikely that it's made of former Primes.

Back on Cybertron, before the Great War, Optimus Prime/Orion Pax is watching a news report dealing with a terrorist attack on the Primal Procession. Nominus Prime is missing, and the flickering of the Matrix Flame indicates he's in critical condition.

An electrical storm cuts the feed just as three armoured thugs enter Orion Pax's office. Orion Pax demands to know why they're there, and the lead thug mentions that they're looking for Whirl. Orion Pax states that Whirl is in custody awaiting trial for savagely beating a suspect. The lead thug implies that Whirl's learned his lesson and should be set free. When Orion Pax disagrees, the lead thug mentions that Whirl has friends in high places, and that putting him on trial could lead to embarrassment to certain high level Cybertronians. Orion Pax kicks them out of his office and the lead thug states that it's unfortunate that Orion lives up to his reputation.

In the present day, Optimus Prime and Ratchet discuss Megatron's fate now that he's been captured. Optimus Prime believes that he's been too reliant on the wisdom of the the Matrix and reveals that when he first bonded with it after becoming Prime, it hurt. He asks Ratchet to look after the Matrix so he can decide Megatron's fate without it.

Back in the past Springarm and Wheelarch are on patrol, and discuss how much Orin Pax has turned the Dead End around since being appointed police captain of the region. They notice that there isn't a criminal to be found. They find out why when they return to base. Orion Pax has already arrested them all. Later, Orion Pax admits to Springarm that the thugs from earlier troubled him. He thinks they might be men under Sentinel's command, members of the Senate security detail. This would give credence to Megatron's political tract in which he declared the Senate was corrupt. Springarm mentions that when he's feeling troubled he tries to channel the power of the Matrix, but Orion Pax states he's not religious and doesn't believe that the Matrix is anything more then a symbol.

In the present, Optimus Prime asks Rodimus what it felt like when he bonded with the Matrix. Rodimus replies that it felt wonderful, a fact that Optimus finds troubling, but does not reveal to Rodimus.

In the past, Orion Pax returns to his police headquarters to find Springarm and Wheelarch decapitated. He finds the thugs from earlier, who have freed Whirl. Whirl protests, stating it wasn't his idea for the break-in, but Orion has had enough, only to be blindsided by one of the thugs. Orion Pax fights the thugs off, only to be cornered in a small room with Springarm's headless corpse. He manages to transform the corpse into its alternate mode and rides out, dispatching the thugs while reading them their rights. Whirl again states that none of this was his idea, and warns Orion Pax to just let the matter rest, stating that if he tries to expose the Senate's corruption they will destroy his life. Whirl asks Orion what he plans to do.

At the Grand Imperium, Senator Proteus gives a speech in which he says the Senate needs to institute a clampdown, a series of measures that will limit the freedoms of the Cybertronians for a limited time while Sentinel, head of Senate security, tracks down those responsible for the attack on Nominus Prime. An aide informs Sentinel that someone wishes to address the Senate. Sentinel orders the unknown individual arrested. A short time later the same aide informs Sentinel that the individual has fought his way through the Senate's security. The individual is revealed to be Orion Pax, who enters the Senate's chamber. Sentinel orders his men to allow him to speak, interested to see where things are going. Orion Pax throws Whirl's body onto the Senate floor and reveals that members of the Senate's security team tried to persuade Orion Pax from pressing charges on him for breaking the law. He condemns the Senate for lording over Cybertron, detached from the masses, always looking for new ways to control the populace. He claims that the other races of the universe that look down on Cybertron refer to Cybertronians as Autobots, meaning automatons, and states that this is what the Senate has reduced the population to. He says that the term "Autobot" can also mean autonomous, free thinking, and declares himself an Autobot. Orion then retells Megatron's story and asks the Senate the three questions Megatron wanted to ask them, just as Sentinel orders his forces to remove Orion: In whose interests do you exercise power? To whom are you accountable? How can we get rid of you? Senator Proteus mentions he didn't catch Orion Pax's name, and Sentinel declares it doesn't matter, he's going to be locked up.

In the present, Optimus Prime confronts Megatron and states that even if Megatron has resorted to bloodshed to achieve his goals, Optimus hasn't and he'd still give the same speech he gave before the Senate today. He declares that since freedom is the right of all sentient beings, Megatron should be free to choose his fate should he be found guilty of his crimes. Megatron chooses death. After Optimus leaves Megatron's cell, Ratchet comments on the Matrix's incredible powers, remarking that just holding it near Sunstreaker restored his ability to walk. He returns the Matrix to Optimus, and Optimus says that he just needed to see if he was still the same person he was before becoming Prime without the Matrix.

Back in the past, Orion Pax meets with an unknown Senator at the Ark-1 memorial. Orion thanks the Senator for pulling strings to have him released from prison, but asks why he did so after he condemned the Senate. The Senator says that he did it because Orion Pax was right, and that the corruption in the Senate goes deeper then he knows. The Senator tells Orion that the Knights of Cybertron called the Matrix of Leadership the Creation Matrix due to its ability to create life. He goes on to explain that a faction within the Senate orchestrated the attack on Nominus Prime so that they would have an excuse to put him into hiding and gain unrestricted access to the Matrix so that they could learn how to control it, and increase their power over the Cybertronian populace. The Senator then says that the Senate's crackdown in the aftermath of the terrorist attack will lead to a war, and that sides are already being chosen. Orion responds that he feels differently, that when the Senator's men rebuilt him they changed him. The Senator mentions that Orion should look reflect on what has happened and look inside himself to see what his part in the upcoming conflict will be. While alone Orion Pax discovers the extent of the changes the Senator had ordered. He now has room in his torso to carry the Matrix of Leadership.
This is either an outright error, or the Senator is foreshadowing to what he somehow apparently knows will happen to Orion/Optimus in the near future.

Springarm is the archetypal good oppressor. An officer of the Rodion Police, he's polite to prisoners, efficient, and does a good job. Unfortunately, the system he's part of has people who... don't do quite a good job, much to his quiet horror.

He's a religious guy who tries to channel the wisdom of the Matrix of Leadership when he's feeling conflicted, and even has a tattoo of the artifact on his left cheek.

Fiction
IDW Generation 1 continuity
Springarm was the initial interrogator of the prisoner Megatron, arrested for two assaults. He efficiently went through the preliminary questions, including the archaic one of whether Megatron was "forged or constructed cold"; when questioned that Cybertron was meant to be beyond apartheid, Springarm said to ignore the question. He was still partly into it when Whirl took over.

Captain Orion Pax found out Megatron wasn't responsible for the crime and had Springarm go release him. To Springarm's horror, Whirl was beating Megatron half to death and told the younger officer to turn around and say he didn't see anything, until he learnt the prisoner was free to go. After taking him to Optimus, Springarm escorted the prisoner out and gave him his confiscated political datatrack back. He was the first to hear Megatron say the "tron" part wasn't from electronic but from neutron, as in the bomb, but the significance passed him by... Chaos Theory Part 1

Later, Springarm was returning from a fruitless patrol with partner Wheelarch when they talked about their captain, whom Springarm praised for being able to make a difference and change lives. Just as he had said that, the two noticed the reason why they hadn't spotted any crime that day: Orion Pax had already taken in all the criminals himself. The captain later had a chat with Springarm, telling him that he had been mulling over the contents of Megatron's datatrack, which had talked about a corrupt senate. Springarm suggested that he try to channel the wisdom of the Matrix, but felt a bit awkward when Pax responded that he didn't believe in stuff like that.

When Orion Pax came back from another patrol, he found Springarm and Wheelarch dead, murdered by senate goons who were "rescuing" Whirl from the punishment he had been given for beating a prisoner. Though he was decapitated and his head placed tauntingly in his captain's trophy case, Springarm's transformation cog was still working, allowing Pax to regrettably use his dead body as a vehicle in the fight against his killers. Chaos Theory Part 2
Sunstreaker's life flashes before his eyes.

On a distant world, Sunstreaker and his squad have driven a Decepticon army off the planet. Sunstreaker tells one of his squad units to inform Optimus Prime of the victory, and as he climbs on a stack of energon crates, the rest of his squad chant his name in victory. The squad member returns and tells him of Prime's congratulations, as well as giving him co-ordinates from Prime, as he is now reassigned to another squad on another planet called Earth.

On Earth, a scientist named Douglas is talking to his superior. It seems he and his crew are having difficulty in shutting up the robot the Machination have captured. Douglas suggests taking it offline, but his superior will have none of it, as it would erase all the data it contains. The superior wants the readings immediately, and he reminds Douglas that it's a machine and that its "screaming" is an automated response. Douglas doesn't care, as he find the noise distracting. The superior then suggests that he get some earplugs and get the job over with.

At night, a scientist tries to seduce his girlfriend, but she is creeped out by the head of the robot, thinking that it's looking at them. The scientist tries to reassure her that it's not looking at anything, but she isn't convinced, as the robot is the most hideous thing she has ever seen, although the scientist retorts that she had wanted to see it. Suddenly, it speaks, calling for help. The scientist is amused, while the girlfriend is disgusted. Excited, the scientist prods the robot head to speak again.

Hunter O'Nion, who had been turned into one of the Sunstreaker Headmasters, confronts Sunstreaker's head. Sunstreaker begs for the human to kill him, but Hunter refuses. Sunstreaker begs once more, but Hunter refuses again and asks Sunstreaker to teach him how to be a Headmaster, while Sunstreaker begs for a third time to Hunter to kill him...

At an Autobot repair bay, Ratchet is giving Sunstreaker his diagnosis. The CR chamber has done wonders to Sunstreaker and everything looks good, but Ratchet needs to do more tests to be certain. Sunstreaker asks if he can go and Ratchet permits it, saying he will let 'Streaker know when the tests are done. Ratchet next mentions that he's about to finish restoring Hunter back to normal if Sunstreaker wants to see, but Sunstreaker turns his back. In response to Ratchet's query, Sunstreaker turns and, with a false smile, says that being in the CR chamber made him unsteady and he just wants to go for a walk. Ratchet reminds him that it wasn't easy to undergo, as this had never happened to him (or anyone) before. Ratchet is concerned that Sunstreaker might have neural trauma, due to the bonding with and separation from Hunter, and he's worried about what else the Machination scientists might have done with him. Sunstreaker once again says that he's fine—couldn't be happier, in fact, thanks to having his head and body back together again. But as soon as he leaves the repair bay, Sunstreaker walks down the corridor, looks at himself, then staggers to an empty room and holds his head.

The images repeat themselves through the eyes of Sunstreaker's disembodied head on Cybertron, as it, along with pieces of the deactivated Insecticon swarm, lie in ruins below, where above, a bridge once stood...
Errors
* In this issue, it is implied that Hunter somehow forced Sunstreaker to agree to his idea of becoming the Autobot's Headmaster. However, in Devastation issue 4, Sunstreaker had a sort of agreeable attitude to Hunter's question of whether there was "room for one more" in the Autobot's mind. On top of that, let's not beat around the bush: This issue abridges and alters a scene from Devastation issue 3, cutting that Hunter proposed being a Headmaster so they could both fight back against Scorponok's plan to use Sunstreaker to hurt Autobots. It also adds a plea for death after Hunter's proposal, so it looks like he's deliberately ignoring the Autobot's wishes, even though in Maximum Dinobots issue 4, he showed he was willing to kill Sunstreaker!
** Another reading is that this is the subjective memories of the dying Sunstreaker (which is why everyone loves him in the early pages) and it's supposed to be inaccurate. This is never made apparent, however.

Notes
* A female Autobot is clearly visible in the crowd of cheering warriors during Sunstreaker's flashback. Jhiaxus, you got some 'splaining to do.
Synopsis
Galvatron survives!

On Garrus-9, Galvatron emerges from the solar pool with a scream. The Darkness has consumed him whole, and he tries to endure it...

On Gorlam Prime, Cyclonus, who has managed to survive the events of the Expansion thanks to his Dead Universe regenerative powers, believes that either life or death would be a blessing, as he and the Dead Universe inhabitants have been marooned on the planet for what he thinks is an eternity. Cyclonus and the inhabitants of the Dead Universe were part of the first Ark expedition, which was a scientific voyage that encountered a parallel universe that had no life and no evolution, and it changed them. They returned to Gorlam Prime, but Cyclonus is the lone survivor, having lasted the longest "out here". On reflection, he realizes that he's been away from his home universe for so long that he feels like an outsider. He is now the last Dead Universe inhabitant, as his comrades Scourge and Straxus are dying and Nemesis Prime is now dead. For the survivors, death is a release for the static hell they found. All that remains is recycling his fallen men, even though they, the scientific elite and his warrior brothers, deserved better.

Cyclonus's thoughts are broken by Scourge, who weakly states that he's alive. Cyclonus tries to reassure his teammate that he won't last long. The best gift Cyclonus can offer is recycling him into the solar pools, though he wishes he had more. Suddenly, Galvatron arrives. Now infused with the Darkness, he tells Cyclonus to stop whatever he was doing. Cyclonus tells him that they're no longer alive; with no purpose and no function, they're now little more than illumination units, and that melting them in the solar pool is the only way restore their honor and regain their dignity. Galvatron says that Cyclonus is wrong; he now has the power and the will, and, most importantly, a mission, and he's going to join with Cyclonus to achieve it. Galvatron states that if they wanted a function, he'll now give it to them, then fires at the solar pool.

Cyclonus angrily thinks that he's gone binary (insane), but Galvatron asks if that's what he was going to do anyway. Cyclonus disagrees, stating about their honor. Scourge, emerging from the pool, again proclaims that he still functions. Seeing this, Galvatron gives him power to live again, then throws him back to the solar pool, as he needs an army. The pool explodes and does its job as Scourge screams. Cyclonus wonders what Galvatron has done, but Galvatron says that the Darkness, not he, wouldn't let Scourge die. Just then, Scourge bursts out of the solar pool, calling Galvatron's name, restored to full capacity, as the pain has allowed him to live once again. Galvatron explains they all are more than they were before, and that the Darkness that consumed Nova Prime is now with him. Galvatron is no longer the robot they once knew, the Darkness isn't what it was with Nova, and they have become something different and new.

Galvatron then sees his new army approach, but his anticipation turns to anger when he realizes that his troops have been made in Scourge's image, rather than his own. Galvatron pronounces that Scourge is now in charge of his Sweeps, that they are now bonded to him, and that if he keeps them in line, he will become a warrior king. Cyclonus thinks this is madness, as there is no spark and no honor in being a warrior slave. As a warrior, a patriot, and a Seeker, he won't allow Galvatron to do this to him. Galvatron reassures Cyclonus that such will not be his fate; Cyclonus' cunning and spirit refuse to die, as he is noble and incorruptible, which is what helped him survive longer than the rest in the normal universe. Galvatron wants Cyclonus to trust him, join him, and seek for him.

With his spark restored, Cyclonus feels that he was weak, but Galvatron tells his new lieutenant that he now has strength. Galvatron orders his army to get started, and Cyclonus asks what their mission is. Galvatron says that their mission as explorers, looking to discover the forces of the universe, is over, though they have paid for what they've learned. There is only one constant, universal force: change. They are now a part of that force, a catalyst sparking upheaval, igniting revolution and feeding chaos with every hate-filled action. The universe had their way with them, and now it's their turn. Scourge wonders what that means, and while Cyclonus has no idea, he tells Scourge that their function is to seek and that they follow Galvatron.
Errors
* Ark is misspelled "Arc".
* In Revelation, it was Galvatron, not Cyclonus, who could remain in the normal universe for long amounts of time without being destroyed. Writer Andy Schmidt has admitted that he misremembered what had been established in Revelation, and that this was just a flat-out biff.
Items of note
* No mention is made of Grindcore, who was last seen with Straxus on Earth.
* This issue now retroactively establishes Cyclonus and Scourge as Seekers.
* This is the first time we've seen Scourge in IDW continuity, but by the power of retcon he's always been with the Dead Universe faction.
* Like last issue, more nods are made to The Transformers: The Movie, with Galvatron now commanding Cyclonus, Scourge and the Sweeps, as well as him being considered insane (as in season 3 of the cartoon).
* The two comrades of Cyclonus that are about to be "put to rest" are two members of the original Ark bridge crew as seen in Galvatron's Spotlight issue.
