As the quest for the third Cyber Planet Key begins, Starscream finally makes his move!

Synopsis
In the forests of Alaska, the Autobot Crosswise has escaped his icy prison and is in the process of evading the humans searching for him. Transforming to vehicle mode and hiding amongst ordinary traffic, Crosswise reflects on his past as a "monster hunter," hunting down and sealing away mysterious creatures that threatened humankind thousands of years ago. Fearing for the security of the seal keeping the monsters trapped in their underground prison, Crosswise races against time to reach it.

In the fire dimension, Megatron rages at his troops over their three successive failures, having lost the Omega Lock and the Cyber Planet Keys from Velocitron and Jungle Planet. He is about to destroy the Planet Map in his fury when Starscream stops him. Taking the map into his own hands, Starscream gets it to offer up the supposed location of the third Cyber Planet Key, and Megatron immediately takes his troops into space to find it. When Sideways notices that Starscream does not depart through Megatron's dimension gate, he pauses, and watches as Starscream opens a gate of his own, to Earth. Suspecting that Starscream is at last about to make his long-foreshadowed move, Sideways decides to accompany him.

The Autobots, meanwhile, have returned to Earth, with Snarl in tow. The wolf-bot is ill at ease in the artificial enclosure that is the Autobots' base, but Jetfire and the kids offer to help him get acclimated by giving him a tour.

Elswhere on Earth, the mysterious government agent that has long been observing the Transformers—at last identified as "Colonel Franklin"—is mobilizing the armed forces to capture the fugitive Crosswise. The Autobot soon comes across a roadblock intended to apprehend him, and uses his Cyber Key power to blast out the guard wall of the road, allowing him to escape by going off-road. The light from his Cyber Key attracts the attention of Starscream and Sideways, who track him until he arrives at the site of his still-intact seal. Crosswise remains on guard when Starscream approaches him, and asks him a question that makes Sideways start in surprise: Starscream believes that the third Cyber Planet Key is on Earth, and that Crosswise knows where it is! A two-on-one battle erupts, but Crosswise is wise enough to know when to cut-and-run, so Starscream has Sideways pursue him while he investigates the mysterious subterranean seal.

Back at the Autobot base, the team prepares to add Jungle Planet's Cyber Planet Key to the Omega Lock. Optimus Prime offers the task to Snarl, but he defers to Leobreaker, who he deems much worthier, and all the other Autobots support the choice. Leobreaker nervously carries out the task, at which point the Omega Lock explodes with a golden radiance that engulfs everyone present. No sooner has Vector Prime identified the glow as the light of Primus than the world fades away around the assembled Autobots and humans, and is replaced with a purplish, featureless void. Vector Prime speculates that they have been drawn into the consciousness of Primus himself, and his theory is soon borne out, as the Mini-Cons begin to glow golden. Primus's powerful, booming voice speaks through the tiny robots, who serve as mediums for the deity, and he tells his children to "protect the balance, until all are one." As the light fades and reality returns, the Autobots' alarm system begin blaring, once again alerting them to the presence of something in the North Pole.

Meanwhile, another of the Autobots' acquaintances is running afoul of Colonel Franklin's blockade: Lucy Suzuki is trying to get back to her lab to analyze the date she has gathered in her research. She is eager to know why Crosswise was hidden in ice, and, impatience getting the best of her, she gets out of her car to ask when the blockade will be lifted. It turns out Colonel Franklin himself is present to supervise, and he greets her with a warmth that leaves her quite surprised.

Not that far away, Optimus Prime, Jetfire, Leobreaker and Landmine arrive at the site of the signal, which turns out to be the site of Crosswise's seal. Unaware that the massive tunnel that lies gaping before them has been blasted open by Starscream, three of the Autobots venture into the huge tunnel while Jetfire waits up top. The tunnel leads them deep into the bowels of the Earth, where discover a massive chamber full of strange metallic "eggs", which Jolt remotely analyses and deduces are stasis pods containing creatures emitting Transformer-like life signals Starscream suddenly appears and quickly takes down the three Autobots, before grandiloquently addressing the heavens and blasting the central column of the chamber, deactivating Crosswise's seal and opening all the stasis pods. As Bud and the others stare with wide eyes at the scene unfolding on the monitor before them, monstrous, shadowed creatures emerge from the pods, which Bud is able to identify as werewolves, vampires, Bigfoot and more. Starscream then reveals that these are not mythological beasts, but the ancient Decepticons who once lived on Earth millennia ago, and Bud puts two and two together, realising that all the legends of terrible creatures from Earth's past were really stories about Decepticons!

At Starscream's command, the ancient Decepticons stride forward, their true robotic natures revealing themselves, and converge on the three Autobots before them. Unable to fight against a horde of such numbers, the Autobots are forced back, at which point Starscream blasts open the roof of the cavern, allowing his new army to escape, and entombing Prime's team. Jetfire spots the escaping Decepticons and attempts to engage Starscream, but quickly breaks off when the Decepticon informs him of his leader's fate. Soon after, Starscream addresses his assembled army, promising to bring about a new world order for the Decepticons. In the process, he is reminded that he needs to check in on his other plan...

Somewhere in space, not too far from the Jungle Planet, Megatron and the other Decepticons have followed the map to the supposed location of the next Cyber Planet Key. Thundercracker observes that the map is doing something strange, and the other Decepticons lean in to look. Crumplezone is crowding Ransack, so the smaller 'bot shoves him back...which spares Crumplezone from what comes next! The Planet Map suddenly begins to glow, and when the light fades, all the Decepticons save for Crumplezone are encased within a massive metallic sphere! Starscream projects his image through the duplicate map, informing Megatron that he is in command now, and Megatron bellows Starscream's name deep into the cosmic night...
Notes
Differences with Galaxy Force
*When Crosswise retreats from Starscream and Sideways, Cybertron has him explain that this is a deliberate feint manoeuvre he is pulling, before spinning around and opening fire. In Galaxy Force, he is genuinely running away to inform Evac of the threat the pair pose.
*Cybertron inserts the customary reference to the Omega Frequency when the Cyber Planet Key is added to the Omega Lock.
*As the Autobots close on the location of the seal, the distance left to their journey is 3 kilometers in Galaxy Force, but three miles in Cybertron.
* In its quest to not make it immediately obvious that the monsters Crosswise has captured are Transformers, the show first renders the ancient Decepticons as swirling masses of purple energy that resemble the shapes of classical monsters. In Galaxy Force, once everyone understands what they really are... they just... stop being purple swirls, and are suddenly robots now, with no explanation for the drastic shift in appearance. Cybertron, in its usual attempt to try and be logical about the stuff Galaxy Force tends to handwave, adds some dialogue to explain that the swirly purple forms are just the sparks of these Decepticons, and that they are "assuming their true Decepti-forms" when they become robotic.

Animation or technical errors
*When this episode was first broadcast, Crosswise was referred to with the name "Smokescreen" in dialogue. This gaffe was corrected by the time the episode premiered in Canada, and the corrected version appears on the series' DVD collections.

Transformers references
*In Galaxy Force, Megatron recalls the supposed destruction of the third Cyber Planet Key by the black hole, as seen in "Savage".
*After appearances in "Hidden", "Collapse", "Race" and the previous episode, "Trust", the mysterious government agent who has been observing the Transformers is at last named. He'll be playing a much bigger role in the series from here on in!
*Although the connection is never explicitly drawn, the giant cavity within the Earth seen in this episode is apparently intended to be a callback to Lucy Suzuki's talk of the Hollow Earth theory back in "Ice", revealing that it's not quite true, but not entirely wrong either.
*Just as in "Champion", the insertion of a Cyber Planet Key into the Omega Lock sends the Autobots to the North Pole.
*Starscream threatens to send Optimus Prime to "meet the Allspark", one of the Unicron Trilogy's sparing references to the concept.
*The idea of Autobots sealing away Decepticons during the time of early humans and becoming the basis for modern legends of monsters has been used before.
*The plot thread of Starscream's duplicate Planet Map comes to a head this episode. The duplicate was created at some point before "Speed", but it wasn't clear until "Savage" that he had kept the original, and given Megatron a tampered copy.

Real-world references
Trivia
*Ironically, Crosswise is indirectly responsible for the release of the Ancient Decepticons. In his haste to check to see if his Decepticon prisoners are still sealed away, he attracts Starscream's attention, leading the treacherous jet to discover-and destroy-the seal. How's that for a backfire?
In the dark ocean depths, the search for the Omega Lock enters its final phase.

Synopsis
The discovery of an Atlantis Pattern at the bottom of the ocean, in the heart of the Bermuda Triangle, prompts the kids to tell the Autobots the legend of Atlantis. Intrigued by this fantastical tale, the Autobots decide to check out this new pattern thoroughly, but unfortunately, their departure for Bermuda is observed by Starscream, who transmits a message to Megatron on the Jungle Planet to inform him of this. Megatron receives his message just after finishing a sparring match with Scourge, which ends when both opponents pull their punches at the last second.

Also on Jungle Planet is the unconscious Autobot Overhaul, who awakens to find that the pacifist guru of Jungle Planet, Backstop, is responsible for saving him from the earthquake that had previously threatened his life. The gruff Overhaul is not immediately forthcoming with his saviour, but, injured and unable to go anywhere, he eventually softens and tells Backstop of his mission to locate the Cyber Planet Keys. They are soon joined by Backstop's pupil Snarl, who has been working under Scourge in order to keep an eye on him. Backstop tells Overhaul how power has corrupted Scourge into a tyrannical ruler, and he fears that the power of the Cyber Planet Keys could have a similar effect.

Back on Earth, the Autobots arrive at the shoreline, and despite some words of concern from Scattorshot, they just drive straight into the water. Predictably, they start to sink, so Bud has to dive in and show them how to swim. With this task accomplished, the kids board the Mini-Cons, and they all start swimming down into the dark depths of the Bermuda Triangle, marvelling at the sea creatures and wrecked vehicles they find as they go. They soon locate the Atlantis Pattern and begin excavating the undersea mountain in which it is embedded, eventually uncovering some kind of entranceway. Just as Vector Prime, the kids and the Mini-Cons are about to enter, however, Megatron, Starscream and Thundercracker appear and attack! The other Autobots hold them off while Vector Prime's group enters the doorway, but they fight with some difficulty, since their lasers won't work underwater.

Vector Prime's team discovers that the entrance is an airlock, which leads them to a huge mechanical control room. Safeguard disconnects from Vector Prime and brings the room online, at which point Vector Prime realizes the truth of the situation: They are standing within the lost Cybertronian starship, the Atlantis, which came to Earth in ancient times, inspiring the legend of the sunken city when it malfunctioned and crashed into the ocean! Desperate to get the precious craft out of Megatron's reach, Vector Prime activates the ship's propulsion system and wrests it free of its mountain prison. To prevent humans from spotting the Atlantis when it surfaces, Optimus Prime quickly carries Scattorshot to the surface ahead of the ship so that he can hide its presence with jamming signals. The Decepticons continue to press their attack, however, so Vector Prime activates the ship's warp system and teleports it away to parts unknown. With their quarry having vanished, the Decepticons pull out, and both factions must now work to discover where the Atlantis has disappeared.

And standing on a nearby rocky outcrop, watching the whole scene unfold, is a mysterious black and orange robot, who resolves to have the Autobots and Decepticons soon dancing to his tune like puppets...
Notes
Differences with Galaxy Force
*In Cybertron, Backstop finds Overhaul's vehicular form a familiar one; in Galaxy Force, he's never seen anything like it before.
*In Cybertron, Scourge claims Megatron would have won their match if he had struck, while in Galaxy Force, both opponents inquire as to why the other held back their attack at the last second. This appears to be a slight mistake on the part of the Cybertron dub, which seems to have overlooked the fact that, in addition to Megatron stopping his punch, Scourge is also poised to strike Megatron with his tail, and likewise holds back. It is, admittedly, rather hard to see his grey-black tail against Megatron's grey-black arm.

Animation and/or technical glitches
*Animation of Scattorshot running at Megatron and being smacked away is recycled from "Fallen".

Transformers references
*A whole lot of talk about Primus here!
*Twelve eps in, it's finally stated (by Scourge) that Megatron is wearing the Armor of Unicron.
*Coby's fear of monsters and suchlike was previously mentioned in "Speed".
*Optimus proposes hiding the Atlantis with a stealth beam coating, as the Autobots did to their base in "Haven".

Trivia
*Undermine's beast-mode head joins in the applause by snapping its mouth!
*This isn't the first time Atlantis has been referenced in the Unicron Trilogy cartoon timeline. The underwater city in the Armada episode "Ruin" was likened to Atlantis by Rad. He didn't actually say it was Atlantis, though, leaving juuuuust enough wiggle-room for the events of this episode not to contradict it.
*While "laser" weapons in the Transformers brand and in science fiction in general are blatantly unlike real lasers, the lasers in this continuity are closer than most examples because refraction makes them useless underwater.
Scattorshot and Bud use the space bridge to travel beyond Earth's atmosphere, but a Decepticon attack could spell their doom!

Synopsis
In the Autobots' base on Earth, Bud loudly announces his desire to follow in Hot Shot and Red Alert's footsteps and travel into space. He manages to talk Jolt into thinking it's a good idea, and Jolt in turn convinces Scattorshot to take Bud above the Earth's atmosphere and into space using the space bridge. As Optimus Prime has taken most of the other Autobots to look for the Omega Lock in the British Isles, nobody is around to tell him what a crazy idea this is; by the time Jetfire, Coby and Lori realize that Bud and Scattorshot are not where they should be, the pair are already above the clouds.

Concurrently, on Velocitron, Hot Shot is in awe of the planet's huge race tracks, while Red Alert can't see any point in them. But they are not the only offworlders on the Speed Planet: Megatron is also there, and locates the planet's leader, Override, just as she wins yet another race. Megatron directly questions her on the whereabouts of Velocitron's Cyber Planet Key, but Override informs him that he will have to beat her in a race before she will tell him. Despite Megatron's use of his Cyber Key Power, Override still wins the race, but confesses to Megatron that she has never heard of the Cyber Planet Key, and just wanted a challenge.

Back on Earth—or rather, over it—Bud is having the time of his life on the space bridge. He and Scattorshot, encased in a gravity bubble, look down upon the Earth, but Bud's elation is cut short when Scattorshot spots Starscream and Thundercracker approaching the British Isles. The two Decepticons attack Optimus Prime's team, and a stray missile flies into space and knocks Scattorshot and Bud off the bridge, sending them floating off into space. Unaware of the drama unfolding above, the Autobots down below continue their battle, and call on Jetfire to back them up. Just as Jetfire deploys from the Autobot base, however, Coby and Lori finally manage to wring Scattorshot and Bud's location out of Jolt, and they promptly flip out. Coby triangulates their position and finds that they're drifting helplessly, so they call on Jetfire to go to their aid. Jetfire wastes no time in breaching the atmosphere and locating his comrades, but just as he is about to take them to safety, a passing satellite collides with them, knocking the gravity bubble from Jetfire's hands and sending Scattorshot and Bud plummeting down through the atmosphere.

Back with the battle, Optimus Prime and Vector Prime attempt to lure Starscream and Thundercracker down to ground level, but Starscream isn't falling for it, and seizes the two Autobots before they can get too low. However, they have managed to bring the Decepticons into range of Overhaul's Cyber Key-powered "Slam Attack" missile, and the small Autobot blasts Thundercracker, sending him spiralling into Starscream, who loses his grip on the two Primes. The Decepticons opt for retreat as the Primes, Jetfire and Jolt all try to reach Scattorshot and Bud as they come falling through the sky, their forcefield burning up as they hurtle downward. Suddenly, in a burst of white light, Scattorshot and Bud vanish, and rematerialize inside the Autobot base. Jolt almost offhandedly reveals that Vector Prime has taught him how to open dimension gates, which he used to teleport them to safety.

Meanwhile, on Velocitron, Hot Shot and Red Alert watch from a distance as Dirt Boss summons his Cyber Key, piquing Red Alert's curiosity. As the medical Autobot muses on the fact that all the Velocitronians have Cyber Keys that are the same color, in contrast to the differently-colored keys the Autobots themselves use, Hot Shot's attention is caught by the sight of Crumplezone and Ransack. The dastardly duo are terrorizing two Velocitronian natives: the youthful Clocker and his wise, elderly mentor Brakedown, who Megatron has ordered them to shake down in hopes of gaining information on the Cyber Planet Key. Red Alert attempts to stop Hot Shot from getting involved, reminding him of Optimus Prime's order not to interact with the locals, but when Crumplezone and Ransack draw their weapons on their two victims, the younger Autobot can't hold himself back, and leaps to their rescue. As Brakedown thanks him for his help, Hot Shot realizes the folly of what he has done...

"One more second, and I'd have knocked you down like a bowling pin!"<br>
"Nice view! You know, there was a scene like this in Mutants From Beyond."<br>
"That's a movie, this is real life!"<br>
"Yeah, what's your point?"
Ransack: "In other words, you lost."

"This is all my fault! I'm a worthless excuse for a Mini-Con!"
:—Jolt having a panic attack.

Notes
Differences with Galaxy Force
*When Megatron and Override first meet, in Cybertron, Megatron is unaware of who he is addressing until Override tells him. In Galaxy Force, on the other hand, Megatron already knows who Override is, and Override's part of the conversation is instead an expression of disbelief that life exists beyond Velocitron.
*In Cybertron, Megatron believes Override has cheated to win their race; in Galaxy Force, he is stoic in defeat.
*In Galaxy Force, Stonehenge is incorrectly located in Ireland. Cybertron fixes this mistake by placing it in England, but it's never really named.

Pain count
*"Cyber key power": Eight
*"Super Mode": One (anomalously named "Massive Attack Mode")

Animation and/or technical glitches
* In the opening scene, the tentacles Jolt is using to run the computer disappear between shots. As does the computer. (The chunk of metal he appears to be standing in front of in later shots is actually some distance away.)
* When Starscream launches his "Pulse Attack", he speaks with Vector Prime's voice.

Continuity errors
* The space bridge's relationship to Earth geography is fluid; the lower terminus is in the American Rockies, but in one scene, Scattorshot is clearly passing east-to-west over Mexico, while later he's close enough to the British Isles to get hit by a stray missile. Later yet, he's over Florida.
* When Thundercracker begins his attack on the Autobots, he says that he's taking "both" of them out. Apparently, he's completely ignoring Landmine and Overhaul in his headcount.
*So a missile flies off into the unfathomably huge void of space and just happens to hit Scattorshot and Bud? How convenient.

Transformers references
* Ransack invites Clocker to "Slag off!", dropping Cybertrons first use of the Transformer swear word that Beast Wars made famous.

Trivia

"Aw, what a drag!"<br>
"Is something wrong, Master Bud?"<br>
"I'm not a master, I told you that!"<br>
"Right, sorry. Bud. Dude."
:—Bud and Jolt.

"How come everyone thinks I'm going to mess up, just 'cause I like to drive fast? I'd never break Optimus's orders!"
:—Hot Shot, who breaks Optimus's orders before the sun sets.

"One more second, and I'd have knocked you down like a bowling pin!"<br>
"Hmph. Keep dreaming."
:—Override and Megatron

"Nice view! You know, there was a scene like this in Mutants From Beyond."<br>
"That's a movie, this is real life!"<br>
"Yeah, what's your point?"
:—Bud and Scattorshot

Crumplezone: "You raced against Override? Wow, did you win?"<br>
Megatron: "Never mind! She doesn't know anything about the Cyber Planet Key, so it doesn't matter!"<br>
Ransack: "In other words, you lost."
:—Ransack is either very brave or very stupid.

Coby and Lori: "He's in space?!"<br>
Lori: "What do you mean?"<br>
Jolt: "He wanted to see space, and he seemed upset when I said no, so I finally said yes, and I talked Scattorshot into it...?"<br>
Lori: "So he got to go and we didn't?!"<br>
Coby: "That's not the point."

Trivia
*As with Starscream and Thundercracker in the previous episode, Megatron now displays his Cyber Key Power for the first time, with no explanation ever being given for how he obtains the ability. On Velocitron, however, Brakedown, Crumplezone, Dirt Boss, and Ransack all summon Cyber Keys at various points in the episode, so it's clearly a widely-known ability there.
*Three episodes ago, there was one Cyber Key invocation. Two episodes ago, there were two. Last episode, there were four. This episode, there were eight. Thank Primus this progression didn't continue.
