:''Optimus Prime is the [[Autobot]] leader from the [[Movie (franchise)|2007 movie franchise]] in the [[Live-action film series|live-action film]] [[Continuity family|continuity family]]. He has [[Transformers: Rise of the Chevy Autobots|sometimes]] used the codename '''10-22'''.''
'''Optimus Prime''' is the leader of the Autobots. Once, long ago, he was [[Prime (rank)|co-ruler]] of [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]] together with his [[brother]], [[Lord High Protector]] [[Megatron (Movie)|Megatron]], but Megatron grew greedy and attempted to claim the [[All Spark]] for himself. Optimus rose to stand against him. As obsessively as Megatron strives to achieve his objective, Optimus is equally as dedicated to stopping him, even at the cost of his life, his world, and—if necessary—his own people. It was on his order that the All Spark was jettisoned into space, dooming Cybertron to a slow death and his people to nomadism. The sacrifices he has made weigh heavily on his [[Spark|spark]], but they must be done, for there is no other choice. He knows the ambitions that lurk in Megatron's spark, and they must never see the light of day. Lives must be kept free from the threat of Megatron's tyranny, no matter the cost.
[[Image:Defiance1 Megs Prime argument.jpg|left|350px|thumb|"Hey, I wanted a mouthplate!"]]

Millions of years ago, Optimus was in charge of the science division and the protectors of the [[All Spark]]. When Protector Megatron toured the excavation site near the temple at [[Simfur]], he and Optimus clashed over several issues. While Optimus wanted to take the investigation slowly, all Megatron cared about was whether the site contained power similar to the All Spark. Optimus nettled Megatron when he reminded the Protector that the science sector was in charge of scientific and archaeological discoveries, and that the defense forces had a tendency to treat such discoveries as hostile, to which Megatron told him if and when he was leader, then he could make such decisions. When a mysterious relic was uncovered, Optimus disagreed with Megatron's order for it to be removed from the ground. Just as the two were about to launch into yet another argument, aliens previously encountered by Commander [[Starscream (Movie)|Starscream]] attacked Cybertron. Megatron blackmailed Optimus into moving the relic into his personal quarters by reminding the science leader that the science division would like to protect the only intact relic from harm. {{storylink|Defiance issue 1}}

Optimus ordered his science teams to help the survivors on both sides, in the hopes of finding out who was responsible and why they attacked. While he went off to find Megatron, he ordered the others to continue searching for survivors while [[Arcee (Movie)|Arcee]] examined the alien remains. Optimus was shocked and appalled when Megatron ordered him to marshal his forces for war. Optimus objected, as his science division was not trained for combat, but Megatron retorted that the scientists should have known that aliens were after the All Spark. He endured Megatron's insane fury when he accused the protector of betraying that which their society was built upon. Later, Optimus called upon a meeting with his science division to ask them to stay by his side and continue on with their mission of peaceful research, as they were protectors, not soldiers. While the aerial-based Cybertronians followed Megatron into space, Optimus confided in [[Prowl (Movie)|Prowl]] and [[Jazz (Movie)|Jazz]] that Megatron sought to divide their planet, and asked the former for help breaking into the the High Protector's personal quarters. {{storylink|Defiance issue 2}}

After noting that Megatron had restored the artifact to pristine condition, Optimus had to leave the military leader's quarters just before he returned. Returning to Burthov to discuss what he had learned with [[Ratchet (Movie)|Ratchet]], [[Arcee (Movie)|Arcee]] came telling Optimus they had found a symbol matching the one on Optimus' head. The symbol indicated Optimus was a [[Prime (rank)|Prime]], and the other Autobots began to dub him "Optimus Prime", although a humble Optimus noted they did not know what it meant and for all they knew, he could just be from a line of record clerks. Prowl was forced by Megatron to arrest Optimus, but this turned out to be a trap to kill him. Optimus bested Starscream, while Megatron formed his new faction, the [[Decepticon]]s. {{storylink|Defiance issue 3}}

Learning of Megatron's new starship, the ''[[Nemesis (ROTF)|Nemesis]]'' from Ironhide, Optimus Prime was convinced by his advisers that their side needed a [[Ark (Movie)|ship of their own]], to prepare for any eventualities. The Autobots found themselves at an advantage when the ''Nemesis'' left Cybertron with the balance of the Decepticon forces, and Optimus himself took the fight to their enemies. However years of bloody war devastated the planet, and Optimus saw no end in sight, unless the main reason for fighting was removed from the conflict. He revealed his plan to capture the All Spark, and most assumed the Autobots would somehow take it aboard their ship. But Optimus' real plan was to blast the Cube into deep space, away from Cybertron, and away from Megatron. {{storylink|Defiance issue 4}}

{{note|[[Defiance]] changes the past relationship between Megatron and Optimus Prime as previously seen in IDW's Prime Directive prequel where they ruled side by side as equals. As presented here, Defiance establishes Optimus Prime as merely the leader of the Cybertronian science sector, and an underling to Megatron.}}

[[Image:Optimusprimemovieprequel.jpg|left|200px|thumb|All Primes are required to have window boobs.]]

For two generations, Optimus Prime ruled [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]] side-by-side with [[Megatron (Movie)|Megatron]]. The two personalities created a balance; Prime was fair while Megatron was firm. However, when Megatron revealed his intentions to steal the All Spark and use it for evil, selfish gain, Prime reacted accordingly. He formed the Autobots, a militia from the civilians around him, but they fared terribly against Megatron's armies, the Decepticons. Ultimately, Prime was forced to eject the All Spark into space to keep it from his nemesis. Unfortunately, Megatron tracked the All Spark to [[Tyger Pax]], where [[Bumblebee (Movie)|Bumblebee]]'s unit was trying to slow down the Decepticons. Prime and the Autobots were held up in [[Simfur]], and unable to come assist. Fortunately, Bumblebee's unit succeeded, and the All Spark was ejected into space, but Cybertron was sentenced to a slow death. The Autobots were forced to abandon the planet.

Thus the focus of the war between Autobot and Decepticon shifted. The All Spark's ejection was only a stall. No longer did Prime have to keep Megatron from stealing the All Spark; instead Prime and his Autobots must hunt down the All Spark, wherever in the universe it landed, before Megatron could. {{storylink|Movie Prequel issue 1|Prime Directive (IDW) issue 1}}

As they prepared to leave Cybertron on board the ''[[Ark (Movie)|Ark]]'' to go after the All Spark, Optimus Prime had some doubts about his decision, feeling that in buying them some time in the war, he had sentenced their world to death. [[Prowl (Movie)|Prowl]] disagreed, pointing out that had Megatron been able to claim the Cube, all those that opposed him would have been destroyed, and that Prime had turned death into a fighting chance for the Autobots. Bolstered by Prowl's words, Prime resolved to rebuild their shattered home once they retrieved the All Spark. {{storylink|The Reign of Starscream Issue Number One|The Reign of Starscream issue 1}}
When war broke out, Optimus studied the entire history of intergalactic warfare from any datatrack he could find—he studied whole campaigns to desperate last stands, gaining a focused "playbook" of warfare strategy. He understands warfare on a practical and psychological level, and in desperate battles knows to show no mercy to opponents beyond a swift death. <ref>''Autobot VS Decepticon Smackdown! - Megatron V. Optimus was the focus of constant attacks by assassin drones and killed them all. Almost immediately after the final battle against Megatron, Optimus Prime had to lead the Autobots against a horde of [[Zombie|zombie]] Decepticons. Despite having no idea how they could be stopped and having had his power drained by fighting Megatron, Optimus continued to fight the monsters rather than let them run amok. In the alternate reality, Megatron defeated Optimus and took the All Spark at [[Mission City]]. Prime's body was now partially frozen and in Decepticon hands. He became resigned to the fact that Humanity, battered by Decepticon occupation, would view both Autobot and Decepticon as hostile invaders. When [[NATO]] was manipulated into attacking the Autobots, Optimus refused to allow his men to return fire, and after the crisis passed, he was sure that [[Starscream (Movie)|the Decepticons' unknown new commander]] was up to something bigger. Optimus also placed the last All Spark fragment in the care of Ratchet, though he was worried exposure to Megatron might have corrupted it. {{storylink|Transformers Comic issue 14|Aftermath Part 1}} {{storylink|Transformers Comic issue 15|Aftermath Part 2}} He was ''not'' happy when Ratchet "took care" of the fragment by bringing [[Jazz (Movie)|Jazz]] back with it, who was left corrupted and amoral by it. {{storylink|Transformers Comic issue 16|Dark Spark}}

Optimus Prime soon worked out that while the All Spark's transformation of Earth had been halted, the damage had been done: the organic Earth and the technological transformation were now fighting for supremacy, killing the planet in the process. He called in a specialist team to investigate and limit the damage, while working with [[President of the United States|President Allen]]. In secret, he organised for [[Nucleon]] to be retrieved from the dead Cybertron and brought to Earth, as there was a long shot it could save the planet. He didn't tell the humans out of concern that if they knew about the plan and it failed, their hopes would be raised and dashed. {{storylink|Transformers Comic issue 17|Return to Cybertron: Part 1}} It was bad enough that Nucleon was so unstable it could turn destructive... {{storylink|Transformers Comic issue 18|Return to Cybertron: Part 2}}

When the team on Cybertron sent an distress signal and reported [[Stockade (Movie)|Stockade's]] Decepticons had captured the Nucleon, Optimus led the entirety of the Earth-bound Autobots (save Camshaft's team) to Cybertron as back-up. He was then surprised to see Cybertron coming to ''them'', looking [[Unicron|a lot meaner these days]]. {{storylink|Transformers Comic issue 19|Return to Cybertron: Part 3}} The planet's possessor, Unicron, shot down the Straxus and the Autobots survived only by evacuating it in time in [[Protoform|protoform]] modes.

Optimus landed next to Stockade's old equipment and, after being filled in by [[Arcee (Movie)|Arcee]], he effortlessly formed an alliance with Stockade against Unicron. His plan was to drain the Nucleon away so Unicron couldn't use it as a power source, while the bulk of the Transformers provided a distraction, which turned out to be going underground and shooting up Unicron's body. The plan worked, Nucleon was secured for Earth, and Optimus extended an offer for Stockade to join them on Earth whenever he wished. Optimus was left optimistic that Autobots and Decepticons had come together in a common cause. {{storylink|Transformers Comic issue 20|Return to Cybertron: Part 4}}

On returning to Earth, he found the Decepticons had seized the Autobot base and six hundred square miles around it; he made the decision to withdraw to [[Washington, D.C.]], knowing that this meant leaving Mikaela in Decepticon hands. Upon landing at an air base, the Decepticon-controlled President Allen lured him into a trap, and he found himself fighting Jazz, now a Decepticon hired gun. Optimus lured him away from humans and prepared to engage him, but when a second assassin named [[Kullt]] turned up, Jazz gunned it down out of annoyance. Optimus had viewed Jazz as a lost cause but now stated there was still some Autobot in him: he ''could'' have let Kullt do the work for him and then killed him, but he saved Prime instead.
As he'd promised Bumblebee, Optimus took the Autobots to get Mikaela back; he himself went first, launching himself in [[Protoform|protoform]] mode to land in Savannah like a bomb and tearing his way through [[Swindle (Movie)|drone hordes]]. He was quickly gunned down by aerial units and about to be killed by Starscream, but this whole flashy attack had been a diversion—allowing other Autobots a chance to hit the distracted air forces and nab Mikaela. Optimus seemed to quickly bond with [[General Seward]], his military liaison at Andrews Air Base, but that didn't help when the mind-controlled President Allen had the government order the Autobots out of America. {{storylink|Transformers Comic issue 23|Revolution Part One}} However, Prime had anticipated this. Almost two weeks before, he'd had Ironhide task [[Tom Banachek]] to identify all the Decepticon puppets for him.
To protect the Earth while they were undercover on Cybertron, Optimus had made a deal with Stockade to start a [[Decepticon Civil War]]. Optimus doesn't trust Stockade to not renege on the deal and just take control of Earth for himself, {{storylink|Transformers Comic issue 24|Revolution Part Two}} but he ensured the Decepticons were set up for the Autobot's final strike: forcibly teleporting all of the enemy to Cybertron via Unicron's leftover teleportational engines, then stranding Cybertron in a remote solar system. The next minute, both Megatron ''and'' Stockade (why wait for him to renege?) were teleported away, along with their forces.
===''Ghosts of Yesterday'' prequel novel===
Optimus Prime led the search for the All Spark in the ''[[Ark (Movie)|Ark]]'', a transport vessel. When they came across an abandoned solar system, they located [[Ghost 1|a vessel]] of strangely Cybertronian design, seemingly of Decepticon make. When the vessel fled to the surface of a planet, Prime dispatched Bumblebee to investigate while he and the other Autobots battled Decepticons from the ''[[Nemesis (Movie)|Nemesis]]''. Prime managed to defeat [[Blackout (Movie)|Blackout]], [[Scorponok (Movie)|Scorponok]], and [[Frenzy (Movie)|Frenzy]] all on his own. After losing touch with Bumblebee, Prime went down to locate him on the planet, where they were attacked by [[Starscream (Movie)|Starscream]] and the alien ship. They fell into a cavern network, where they were further attacked by [[Worm-thing|indigenous worms]].

During their flight from the creatures, Optimus Prime and Bumblebee came across the alien vessel. Prime realized that they were trying to surrender, so the Autobots communicated with its crew. Optimus explained that they came in peace, "freedom is the right of all sentient beings," Starscream tricks everyone, and so on. However, the creatures, who called themselves "[[Human|humans]]", explained that they held Megatron, whom they called the Ice Man, on their home world, [[Earth]]. Realizing the destruction Megatron would wreak upon the humans if he escaped, and that the humans would be unable to defend themselves effectively, Prime vowed to see them return to their world to warn it. Prime was able to blast an opening in the cavern, and the group escaped. As they returned to the ''Ark'', Prime began to speculate that the All Spark was what drew Megatron to Earth.

In the ensuing battle with the Decepticons, Prime was in the difficult position of fighting Starscream and protecting the human ship. His distractions allowed Bonecrusher to spear him with his tail. The difficult state nearly gave Starscream the chance to kill him, but the humans saved Prime's life by damaging Starscream, who destroyed them. Optimus Prime was inspired by their courage and sacrifice, and resolved to locate Earth before the Decepticons did—and hopefully before Megatron came back online. {{storylink|Ghosts of Yesterday}}
The leader of the Autobots, Optimus Prime, came to Earth shortly after [[Bumblebee (Movie)|Bumblebee]] sent his comrades a beacon. Upon atmospheric reentry, Prime managed to land outside of [[Tranquility]]'s inhabited areas. While Sam and Mikaela watched, Optimus transformed and fled his landing place. From atop a hill, he quickly scanned the form of an Earth truck, thus configuring his body to transform into it. Prime, [[Jazz (Movie)|Jazz]], [[Ratchet (Movie)|Ratchet]], and [[Ironhide (Movie)|Ironhide]] met up with Bumblebee and his human friends, [[Sam Witwicky]] and [[Mikaela Banes]] in an alley. In one of the most extended [[Transformation|transformations]] in the multiverse, Prime assumed his robotic form before the stunned humans. After confirming Sam's identity, Prime introduced himself and his team. When Mikaela asked of the Autobots' intentions, Prime explained the search for the All Spark, the betrayal of Megatron, and why Sam was important to their search.

[[Image:Movie PrimeSam parentsfreakout.jpg|left|300px|thumb|Optimus Prime will watch you fornicate. And there is nothing you can do about it.]]
Glasses that belonged to Sam's ancestor, [[Archibald Witwicky|Captain Archibald Witwicky]], contained the location of the All Spark encoded across its lenses, so Optimus Prime ordered his troops to wait outside Sam's house while Sam and Mikaela searched inside for the glasses. Much to Sam's exasperation, Optimus Prime, in his impatience, clumsily ruined his parents' garden, and the Autobots' heavy footsteps convinced them there was an earthquake. Prime's attempts to hide, such as having the Autobots transform into vehicle mode right in the backyard, were also less than satisfactory. Ultimately, Sam came so close to a panic attack that Prime was forced to order the Autobots to fall back. As Prime lectured his team on their supposed inability to remain quiet, Ratchet got himself shocked by walking into some powerlines, causing further problems. When [[Ron Witwicky|the]] [[Judy Witwicky|parents]] came to investigate, Prime's attempt to avoid discovery caused the house to shake, though this was to their benefit, as the father assumed that the damage to the yard was the result of an earthquake. Ironhide suggested that they kill the parents, but Optimus scolded his old friend. Despite all this, their presence remained undetected until [[Sector Seven]] arrived (in a convoy of GMC Yukons) and abducted Sam, Mikaela, and Sam's parents.

[[Image:Movie Optimus Prime S7 mad.JPG|right|300px|thumb|Get out of the car...what's left of it anyway!]]
Optimus Prime sent the Autobots in pursuit of the SUV that contained Sam, Mikaela, and Sector Seven's director, [[Seymour Simmons|Agent Simmons]]. Prime intercepted the vehicle carrying their young human friends, ripping the roof of the vehicle off, with the other Autobots disarming the agents, and made it perfectly clear to Simmons how pissed off he was at him for trying to apprehend the two children, regarding this as a bad move on Simmons' behalf. Optimus then ordered his comrades to relieve the agents of their weapons, and attempted to interrogate Simmons. The agents' lack of surprise at their appearance indicated that they had seen Cybertronians before, but Simmons refused to reveal any information. With a Sector Seven backup team en route, Prime ordered the Autobots to scatter, while he took Sam and Mikaela. While hiding under a bridge, Mikaela and Sam slipped and fell off Prime's shoulder. Bumblebee managed to catch them before impact, but was captured, and Sam and Mikaela recaptured, by the organization after their retreat.

Optimus Prime, now in possession of the glasses which could tell him the location of the All Spark, regretfully left Bumblebee in Sector Seven's hands, knowing that if they went after him, they would have to use deadly force. After regrouping the next day, Prime used the glasses to locate the All Spark. Jazz raised objections to leaving Bumblebee behind, but Prime remained firm in his belief of not harming the humans. Ironhide seemed okay with using deadly force, stating the humans were too violent, but Prime countered that when their time had come, the Cybertronians had been [[Cybertronian Civil Wars|little different]]. Going on to explain the potential he saw in the humans, as well as reminding them that "freedom is the right of all sentient beings", Prime revealed to the Autobots his real plan for the All Spark: if they could not defeat the Decepticons, Prime intended to merge the Cube with his [[Spark|spark]]. Though this would destroy the All Spark, Ratchet cautioned Prime against this, as it would also kill him. Prime believed that this was acceptable, vowing not to let another race suffer the mistakes of the Transformers. The glasses placed the All Spark at [[Hoover Dam]] where, luckily, Bumblebee and the young humans were taken.

[[Image:Movie2007 Prime sword.jpg|left|300px|thumb|Swiss army Prime.]]
Optimus Prime's team met up with Sector Seven, Bumblebee, Sam, and Mikaela en route, who had planned to hide the All Spark in nearby [[Mission City]]. While on the highway, he was attacked by [[Bonecrusher (Movie)|Bonecrusher]], who managed to tackle Optimus and drag him over the edge of a freeway overpass. During the battle, Optimus struck the rage filled Transformer so hard his [[Optic|optic]] popped out. As the Decepticon swung his claw wildly, Optimus drew his sword from his right arm and sliced off one of Bonecrusher's arms, before brutally finishing off his enemy by driving the blade through Bonecrusher's neck, severing his head.

Optimus arrived at Mission City just in time to observe Megatron discarding the remains of Jazz, and challenged him. Millennia in the ice had done nothing to lessen Megatron's hatred of his brother, and he launched himself in jet mode at the Autobot leader. Optimus leaped and grabbed hold of the wings, which was a really bad idea, as Megatron drove himself and Prime through an office block. As they flew out of the building onto the street below, Megatron transformed and leapt on top of Prime, declaring the humans undeserving of life. Prime rejected his claims, saying that they deserved to choose for themselves. Megatron threw Prime across the street, declaring that if he wished to defend the humans, Prime could die with them. He then formed his [[Fusion cannon|fusion cannon]] from his forearms. The power up time allowed Prime to draw his [[Ion blaster|ion blaster]] and fire, hitting Megatron. The Decepticon used the momentum to spin around, then used the fusion cannon to blast Prime across the street into another building. Megatron then resumed the hunt for Sam and the All Spark.

[[Image:Movie2007 Prime truck.jpg|right|300px|thumb|He knows he's a sexy truck.]]
Tracking Megatron to the deserted building, Prime barely managed to catch Sam after Megatron knocked him off the roof. Telling the boy to hold onto the Cube, Prime attempted to scale down the building, but Megatron jumped on Prime, causing them both to fall down hard onto the street below. Sam survived, however, and Optimus told the boy that if he could not defeat Megatron, Sam must put the All Spark into his chest which would destroy it. As Sam sought cover, Optimus faced down Megatron, and informed him that, "At the end of this day, one shall stand, one shall fall". Unfortunately, Megatron, even after years of stasis, proved to be far too powerful for Prime to defeat alone. The unit led by Lennox and the Raptor squadron laid down suppressing fire as Megatron reached for the All Spark, until Optimus finally took him down by sweeping his legs. Still, Megatron continued, crawling toward the cube. Believing he had lost, Optimus implored Sam to put the All Spark into his chest. Sam instead thrust it into Megatron's chest, killing the Decepticon leader and destroying the All Spark.

[[Image:Movie2007 Prime AllSpark shard.jpg|left|300px|thumb|The Autobot [[Matrix of Leadership|Dorito of leadership]]]]
As Optimus watched his brother die, he regretfully said there was little other choice. He also told Sam he owed him a debt of gratitude for saving his life, but was then informed that Jazz had not survived (Jazz was flapping around disrespectfully like a ragdoll during this sequence). Prime briefly eulogized his comrade, then commented that they had gained new comrades in the humans, and was honored by their bravery. Bumblebee, who had finally regained his voice, requested permission to remain with Sam Witwicky, to which the young human eagerly agreed, and Optimus approved. He noticed a fragment of the All Spark in Megatron's chest cavity and removed it, then permitted the humans to dispose of the Decepticon corpses by dumping them into the deepest part of the ocean.

[[Image:Movie Optimus ending.JPG|right|300px|thumb|[['Til all are one]]!]]
Though Megatron was killed and his Decepticons were defeated, the All Spark was destroyed, leaving the Autobots unable to restore Cybertron. The Autobots elected to remain on Earth, and Prime sent a message into deep space to any surviving Autobots in the Galaxy to come to their new home on Earth, their long years of searching having finally having come to an end. As the other Autobots rested (and watched Sam and Mikaela make out on Bumblebee's hood) Optimus Prime looked to the sky, hoping his message had been heard. {{storylink|Transformers (2007)}}
Following the battle of [[Mission City]], and the destruction of Megatron and the All Spark, Optimus Prime was left to ferry the body of his first lieutenant [[Jazz (Movie)|Jazz]] out of the city in an abandoned trailer. Trusting [[William Lennox|Captain Lennox]] and his men, Prime asked the human soldiers to help the Autobots escape from the city, before [[Sector Seven]] and other untrustworthy humans could arrive. A month later, [[Seymour Simmons|Agent Simmons]] managed to convince Lennox and [[Robert Epps|Sergeant Epps]] to call upon the assistance of Optimus Prime and the Autobots to escort the Decepticon remains, thereby hopefully reactivating the Decepticon [[Wreckage (Movie)|Wreckage]] somehow. {{storylink|Alliance issue 1}}

Optimus, Ironhide, Ratchet and Bumblebee arrived at Sector Seven's Nevada desert base to escort the a naval base at [[California|San Diego, California]]. Optimus insisted on escorting Jazz's remains personally, and thanked Lennox for arraigning a proper burial-at-sea for his fallen lieutenant. When he noticed the All Spark shard seemingly reacting to the Decepticon bodies, he handed the fragment to [[Professor Vine]] for safekeeping until he returned. Shortly after leaving the base, Optimus had second thoughts about leaving the fragment in Sector Seven's possession, and ordered Bumblebee and Ironhide to turn around and retrieve the only remaining piece of the All Spark. {{storylink|Alliance issue 2}}

The convoy returned to the Sector Seven base after learning of Wreckage and Starscream's attacks. [[Salani]] retrieved the All Spark shard and returned it to Optimus Prime, who felt the last piece of their heritage should stay with him. Weeks later, the Autobots and the soldiers with whom they served with traveled aboard a [[United States Navy|US Navy]] carrier for Jazz's burial-at-sea and to observe the disposal of the Decepticons. Optimus deeply appreciated the humans' paying last respects to their fallen comrade, though he was concerned that even the great depths of the Laurentian Abyss were not enough to keep the Decepticon bodies hidden. Below deck, Optimus and Lennox agreed to a formal [[N.E.S.T.|alliance between the Autobots and humans]] as the first line of offense and defense against the Decepticons. During training on the island of [[Diego Garcia]], Optimus Prime reminded the Autobots that they must work together with the humans as a team, never forgetting that division was what caused the war on Cybertron in the first place. When they were alone, Optimus Prime and Major Lennox complimented each other's leadership and the dedication of their respective troops. When Lennox commented that it was because of the Autobots that he and his soldiers were alive today, Optimus refuted this, saying it was because of humans such as Lennox and Sam, and that the Autobots were only part of the problem. Soon, both [[N.E.S.T.]] leaders learned that the Decepticons had returned to Earth. {{storylink|Alliance issue 3}}
NEST was deployed to [[San Francisco]], where the Decepticons [[Swindle (Movie)|Swindle]] and [[Dead End (Movie)|Dead End]] were wreaking havoc. Flushed out of hiding, the Decepticons managed to evade the other Autobots, but Optimus Prime quickly put down Dead End by ramming him head-on. When asked by Prime, he commented that he was fine, but he wasn't sure if Dead End was. On the way back to base, Lennox and Optimus Prime discussed Swindle's last words and were concerned that this was just the first wave of Decepticons coming to Earth, and that they were after [[Sam Witwicky]]. Optimus convinced Lennox that no matter what, it was Sam's destiny to become involved in this conflict, and they agreed to send Bumblebee back to the States to resume his role as the boy's guardian. Later, when Optimus observed the distrust for the Autobots held by Lennox's superiors, he suggested that they must work harder and that continued success would satisfy those above them. During the subsequent hunt for Decepticons around the world, Optimus Prime personally destroyed [[Jetstorm (Movie)|Jetstorm]], [[Dropkick]] and [[Incinerator (Movie)|Incinerator]]. As NEST's ranks grew, together they celebrated their victories and mourned those who made the ultimate sacrifice. One event brought joy and hope to the team: The arrival of Autobot refugees who were eager to protect their new homeworld. This joy was tempered by the fact more and more Decepticons were being sighted on Earth, and Optimus believed that there was some unknown that threatened their new home, their species and their alliance with the humans. {{storylink|Alliance issue 4}}
{{spoiler|Revenge of the Fallen (film)|July 24, 2009}}

After the events in [[Mission City]] two years ago, Optimus Prime and the Autobots became part of a Transformer/human military group called [[NEST]], which hunted down the remaining Decepticons across the world. When [[Demolishor (ROTF)|Demolishor]] and [[Sideways (ROTF)|Sideways]] were detected in Shanghai, NEST was deployed there, including the Autobots [[Sideswipe (ROTF)|Sideswipe]], [[Ironhide (Movie)|Ironhide]], [[Arcee (Movie)|Arcee]], [[Skids (ROTF)|Skids]] and [[Mudflap (ROTF)|Mudflap]]. Once Demolishor made himself known by transforming into robot mode and crushing dozens of cars along the highway, Optimus Prime parachuted out of a NEST cargo plane and landed in vehicle mode. He leapt off a bridge onto the Decepticon's head and wrestled the titan to the ground. With his dying breath, the Constructicon stated that [[The Fallen]] would rise again. Optimus responded in the negative and unceremoniously executed him.

Returning to [[Diego Garcia]], Prime entered a briefing with [[Theodore Galloway]], the National Security Advisor who had been appointed liaison by the [[President of the United States|President]], and [[Morshower]], the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Prime relayed the warning of The Fallen to them, but Galloway made no effort to conceal his hostility toward the Autobots and took umbrage with their refusal to share weapons technology with the humans. Galloway also pointed out that the Decepticons had not left Earth as Optimus had hoped, leading him to conclude that the Autobots were the ones who the Decepticons were after. When asked if the Autobots would leave Earth if told to, Optimus replied that they would comply, but warned Galloway to consider what would happen if the Autobots left but the Decepticons did not.

Unknown to Prime, the Decepticon [[Soundwave (ROTF)|Soundwave]] had been monitoring transmissions and spied in on the briefing. Dispatching [[Ravage (ROTF)|Ravage]] to the island, he had his agent steal the remaining All Spark fragment from the island so it could be used to revive Megatron. Optimus was unaware of the Decepticons' goal, so it is understandable that he became more preoccupied by the resulting cool relations with the United States. Seeking outside help, Optimus dispatched Bumblebee to retrieve Sam Witwicky from college in an effort to secure his testimony on the Autobots' behalf. Meeting Sam at an abandoned cemetery near his college, Optimus explained the situation. Sam was not receptive; in fact, he was quite hostile, saying that he had just started college and was trying to have a normal life. Knowing that fate often called at inconvenient times, Optimus impressed upon Sam the importance of what was going on, but Sam reiterated that the Cybertronian War was not his. Optimus relayed his fear that it soon would be.

[[Image:ROTF Optimus vs Grindor.jpg|thumb|right|250px|''Roses are red,''<br>''violets are blue,''<br>''this poem doesn't rhyme,''<br>''GIVE ME YOUR FACE''<br>]]
Prime's fear soon came to pass, but in the last way he could imagine: Megatron had learned that the knowledge of the All Spark had been passed to Sam by a fragment Sam had touched, and soon captured him, Mikaela, and Sam's college roommate [[Leo Spitz]]. Heading to rescue the three humans, Optimus and Bumblebee ambushed the Decepticons in the abandoned industrial complex where the teens were being held, just as [[Scalpel]] was about to perform fatal neurosurgery on Sam. Managing to whisk Sam away from the plant, Optimus made it as far as the nearby forest when Megatron arrived. Going one-on-one with the Decepticon leader, Prime managed to hold his own until Starscream and [[Grindor (ROTF)|Grindor]] arrived. After having his mouth plate shattered, Prime got serious: Unsheathing both [[battle blade]]s, Optimus Prime fought a three-on-one fight against the Decepticons, managing to slice off Starscream's arm and rip off Grindor's head. However, Megatron managed to stab his own sword through Optimus Prime's spark chamber. Critically injured, Optimus implored the still-observing Sam to run. Although the rest of the Autobots soon arrived and drove off Megatron and Starscream, Optimus Prime was dead.

Soon after, The Fallen made his presence known and demanded Sam Witwicky be turned over to him or the world would be destroyed. Galloway used this as a reason to shut down NEST and ordered the Autobots returned to Diego Garcia under guard, along with Prime's corpse. Fortunately, Bumblebee, and [[Skids (ROTF)|the]] [[Mudflap (ROTF)|Twins]] managed to spirit Sam, Mikaela, and Leo away before The Fallen made his announcement. With help from their former enemy Seymour Simmons and the Decepticon-turned-Autobot [[Wheelie (ROTF)|Wheelie]], the group discovered that Sam's mind contained the Language of the Primes, to which group The Fallen had once belonged. The human/Autobot group managed to locate the Seeker [[Jetfire (ROTF)|Jetfire]], who told them of how the [[Seven Primes]] forged a [[solar harvester]] to use a star's energy to replenish the All Spark, and the [[Matrix of Leadership]], needed to activate the harvester, until they were betrayed by The Fallen, who tried to harvest [[Sun|Sol]] in defiance of the Primes' rule of the sanctity of life. Sam hit upon the idea to use the Matrix to restore Optimus to life, similar to how the Decepticons had used the All Spark fragment to resurrect Megatron. Formulating a plan, the group managed to relay the information to Major Lennox and Sergeant Epps, who faked engine trouble over Petra, where the [[Tomb of the Primes]] was located. Unfortunately, the Matrix had turned to dust in the thousands of years since its entombment, but Sam still believed that it could be used to revive Optimus.

However, the Decepticons were still looking for the harvester and the Matrix needed to activate it. Sam was technically killed in the battle, during which he communed with the six Primes from the tomb, who restored the Matrix. Jamming it the fallen Autobot, Sam used the Matrix to restore Optimus Prime to life. Unfortunately, The Fallen soon arrived and stole the Matrix. Having been fatally injured by [[Scorponok (Movie)|Scorponok]], Jetfire offered his parts to Optimus, as only a Prime could defeat The Fallen, and snuffed out his own spark. After Ratchet finished attaching Jetfire's wings and thrusters to Prime's body, Optimus hurried to the [[Great Pyramid of Giza]], which had been constructed around the harvester, and damaged the machine before it could destroy Earth's sun. Optimus Prime then faced The Fallen, who soon tried to retreat. With a cry of "GIVE ME YOUR FACE!!!", Optimus ripped off The Fallen's face and killed him, forcing Megatron and Starscream to retreat.

On the return voyage home, Optimus and Sam discussed what they had seen and experienced. Though he did not know what the future held for their races, Optimus Prime declared that the Autobots and humans would face it together, as they had millennia before. {{storylink|Revenge of the Fallen (film)|Revenge of the Fallen}}
Optimus grabs the chain, pulling Megatron in closer, and with the All Spark clutched in his fist, delivers a punch through Megatron's spark. * [[TakaraTomy]] officially recognizes Optimus Prime's vehicle mode as a [http://www.kenworth.com/2100_vir_w900.asp Kenworth W900 truck], even though the vehicle used for filming was a modified [http://www.peterbilt.com/index_gal_mod_desc.asp?model=model379 Peterbilt 379], a different model from a different brand, although both are made by the PACCAR company.<ref>[http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/Features/articleId=121424?tid=edmunds.il.home.photopanel..2.* Article at Edmunds.com on some of the vehicles used in the movie]</ref>

* Unlike most of the other truck-mode Optimus Primes in other continuities, ''Movie'' Optimus Prime does not pull a trailer of any sort. However, if he did, it would most likely be a flatbed trailer, as the rear of Prime's sleeper cabin is protected by a large silver "headache rack", a piece of optional equipment installed in trucks that haul heavy loads on flatbed trailers. The rack protects the driver in case the load breaks free during braking.

* When Optimus Prime scans a truck for his new body, the passing truck has what appears to be an Autobot sigil on its grill, but the actual truck that Prime turns into at the end of the scene has a much wider, flatter symbol on the grill, which looks rather more like that of Peterbilt. Then, Prime has an Autobot sigil on his grill while driving to meet the other Autobots.

* As part of the hype buildup to the movie's release, Optimus Prime made a brief cameo at the 2007 MTV Movie Awards, interacting with host Sarah Silverman. The scene spliced Silverman into pre-existing movie footage, but featured new dialogue recorded for the event by Peter Cullen. Prime heavily hinted that he wanted to present an award, but was rejected for a regular MTV fan.

* According to the free trading cards from the Boston Globe, Optimus is 28 feet tall, weighs 4.3 metric tons, and his primary weapon is an [[Ion blaster|ion blaster]]. (Considering Optimus's height, however, this weight would seem implausible.)

* In the Japanese dub of the movie, he is given his original western name of Optimus Prime rather than the Japanese equivalent, Convoy. Just as Peter Cullen voiced Prime in the English version of the film, Tesshō Genda (the voice of G1 Convoy) reprised his role for the Japanese dub.

* According to a tie-in advertisement for [[Burger King]], Prime likes his Whoppers with no onions, no cheese, and with extra pickles on the side. However, due to a cruel twist of fate, he can never enjoy the sweet taste of beefy victory. He saved the world from the Decepticons, and still he can't even have it his way? Where's the justice?

* The Optimus Prime computer generated model consisted of 10,108 individual parts, 1,830,898 polygons, 27,744 rig nodes, and 2336 texture maps. The volume of all pieces combined came to 5445 cubic feet.<ref>Robertson, Barbara (2007). Heavy Metal. ''Computer Graphics, 30''(7), 12-17.</ref>

* Sadly enough, Optimus was only able to shoot his gun ONCE in the movie. He makes up for it by using the awesome energy blade, though.

* Optimus Prime (in truck mode) made an appearance at [[BotCon 2007]], alongside the [[Sector Seven Mobile Command Unit]]. He was available for pictures all weekend. He made a second appearance at [[BotCon 2009]].

* It said in the Autobots game in the DS, Prime's father was killed by Megatron. However, since it is also widely known that Prime and Megatron were brothers, Megatron killed his own dad. Not that this is surprising, though.

* In Titan Magazines ''Transformers'' comics, Optimus's Cybertronian robot mode is exactly like his Earth mode, but with different weapons, yet his Cybertronian mode is a mostly silver protoform—with no truck windows. Odd.

* Out of the other existing continuities, this Optimus Prime is probably the most aggressive incarnation, based on how he speaks to [[Seymour Simmons|government officials]] and his utter ruthlessness in battle. Additionally, he seems obsessed with destroying the heads of his opponents. In ''[[Transformers (2007)|Transformers]]'' Prime decapitated [[Bonecrusher (Movie)|Bonecrusher]], and tried pulling off [[Megatron (Movie)|Megatron]]'s head. In ''[[Revenge of the Fallen (film)|Revenge of The Fallen]]'', Optimus severely damaged [[Demolishor (ROTF)|Demolishor]]'s head before puting the lethal bullet in it, he ''ripped'' [[Grindor (ROTF)|Grindor's]] head apart (holy crap!) with hooks, shot part of Megatron's face off and ''ripped off'' [[The Fallen]]'s face before killing him. Considering [[Michael Bay|the director]] of those two movies, this is understandable. On the plus side, it has also given us some of the most violent action sequences in Transformers history.
==Technical details==

==Short synopsis==
[[Image:ROTFteaserposter.jpg|right|250px|thumb|For dry, red eyes, the difference is clear: Clear Eyes.]]

The Autobots have found a home in "NEST", a secret military unit created to seek out and eliminate the remaining Decepticons. All is not well, however. Unbeknownst to them, Soundwave is in orbit, coordinating the Decepticon counterstrike. After Ravage steals the Allspark shard from NEST, a team of Constructicons and The Doctor journey to the bottom of the ocean and use it revive Megatron. The Decepticon leader journeys to the crashed Nemesis, rebukes Starscream, and meets with his master, The Fallen.

The Fallen explains that he had constructed a Solar Harvester on Earth, in violation of the Primes' code to never harm an inhabited planet. The Primes turned on him, banished and imprisoned him. However the Harvester still stands, and only one Prime remains. If Megatron destroys Optimus Prime, The Fallen will be freed to activate the Harvester, which will kill off the humans and provide the Decepticons with enough energon to raise an army. Megatron eagerly agrees, and returns to Earth with a vengeance.

It transpires that the location of the Harvester is hidden within Sam Witwicky, who absorbed the knowledge from another Allspark fragment. The Decepticons begin an all-out war across the Earth as they hunt down the human, and the Autobots and NEST are blamed for the ensuing carnage. Witwicky goes to ground, and must turn to unlikely allies in the race to find a solution. Ultimately, the last of the Primes defeats The Fallen, destroys the Harvester, and proves the Transformers' greatest power is found in their unexpectedly-ancient alliance with the humans.
==Quotes==
"I need spare parts. Kill the little one!"
:— '''Scalpel''' instructs the Constructicons to kill one of their own, which they so happily oblige.

"I know you’re pissed-I know you’re pissed, I tried to kill you, right? It’s totally understandable. I mean, if you tried to kill me, I’d try to kill you too."
:— '''Sam Witwicky''' tries to relate with '''Megatron'''.

"Is the fate of our race not worth one human life?"<br>
"You'd never stop at just ''one''. '''I'll take you all on!'''"
:— '''Megatron''' tries to justify killing Sam. '''Optimus Prime''' disapproves. Beatdown ensues.

"Beginning. Middle. End. Facts. Details. Condense. Plot. Tell it."
:— '''Simmons''' demands more coherent exposition from Jetfire.

"GIVE ME YOUR FACE."
:—'''Optimus Prime''' warns The Fallen of his violent fetish.

"Not to call you a coward, master, but, sometimes, cowards do survive."
:— '''Starscream''' pitches his usual battle plan to an unusually receptive Megatron.
While the Decepticons were disgusted with the pro-Autobot propaganda of Bay's first documentary {{storylink|Transformers Comic issue 13|#13's Star Screams}}, they're quite optimistic about the second film. In the week leading up to the United States release, while the film had been released in Japan and the United Kingdom, ''Revenge of the Fallen'' was ranking 38% fresh on [http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/transformers_revenge_of_the_fallen/ Rotten Tomatoes.com]. As American reviews were added into the ranking on June 24, the movie's freshness slipped slowly to 22%. RottenTomatoes.com's consensus was that "''Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen'' is a noisy, underplotted, and overlong special effects extravaganza that lacks a human touch." Roger Ebert, who gave the movie one star, remarked that "if you want to save yourself the ticket price, go into the kitchen, cue up a male choir singing the music of hell, and get a kid to start banging pots and pans together." <ref>[http://rogerebert.suntimes.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20090623/REVIEWS/906239997 Roger Ebert's ''Revenge of the Fallen'' review] on RogerEbert.com</ref> Todd Gilchrist of Cinematical.com said Michael Bay "has exceeded even the possibilities of sequel-driven 'moreness,' combining his own muscular, high-gloss sensibility with the conventions of blockbusters past, present, and probably future to create a monolithic action masterpiece that feels destined to be the biggest movie of all time." <ref>[http://www.cinematical.com/2009/06/22/review-transformers-revenge-of-the-fallen/ Review: Transformers Revenge of the Fallen] on Cinematical.com</ref> Michael Phillips from the Chicago Tribune said "the first, comparatively lucid ''Transformers'' was a headache, but I sort of enjoyed it....''Revenge of the Fallen'' is more like listening to rocks in a clothes dryer for 2½ hours." <ref>[http://www.chicagotribune.com/entertainment/movies/chi-tc-mov-transformers-0623-0624jun23,0,7350387.story 'Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen' stars Shia LaBeouf, Megan Fox, Josh Duhamel] on chicagotribune.com </ref> Roger Ebert went back for more in a second article, declaring not only that ''Revenge of the Fallen'' was awful, but that it'd [[Ruined FOREVER|ruined action films FOREVER]]. <ref>[http://blogs.suntimes.com/ebert/2009/06/the_fall_of_the_revengers.html "The Fall of the Revengers"] on suntimes.com</ref>
Despite the overwhelmingly negative reviews, ''Revenge of the Fallen'' poised itself quickly as a blockbuster maelstrom. It grossed $16 million in its opening midnight showings alone, an all-time record for Wednesday openings and a second-best for openings on any day of the week behind ''The Dark Knight''. After the full Wednesday was over, ''Revenge of the Fallen'' had grossed $55 million in domestic ticket sales, surpassing the previous Wednesday release record, held by ''Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix'', by over $10 million. <ref> [http://www.mtv.com/movies/news/articles/1614673/story.jhtml 'Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen' Breaks Wednesday Box-Office Record] on MTV.com</ref>
==Trivia==
*The official title of the film is ''Revenge of the Fallen'' (with a lower-case "t" in "the") even though it is apparently referring to [[The Fallen]] (with a capital "T" in "The").
* In an interview with Sci Fi Wire on March 31st, Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman said they had looked through the comics and cartoons for the "most elemental bad guy" that "jumped off the material" and found that in the Fallen. They also stated that due to production necessities (Hasbro and Bay needing characters for scenes and design to begin as soon as possible) and the 2008-2009 Writers Strike, some characters were in their initial treatment while others were designed specifically for the movie production, and that due to the overall numbers of robots, the audience would not get to know all of the Transformers closely. Indeed, Orci and Kurtzman referred to some characters via descriptors such "Volt" (Jolt) and "Wheelbot" (Demolishor). They also confirmed that Nimoy was open to playing the Fallen if the role was offered, and that they were in the middle of hashing it out with Frank Welker over a role in the movie, but the final decision was down to Bay.<ref name="scifiwireMarch2009">[http://scifiwire.com/2009/03/orci-kurtzman-reveal-tran.php SciFi Wire March 2009 interview with Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman]</ref>
* On the MTV Movies blog, Michael Bay reported that they were still doing for the voices for the film, and that he was (jokingly) nervous of asking his relative Leonard Nimoy if he wanted to voice The Fallen in the movie for fear of offending him with the relatively low pay allotted to voice actors.<ref>[http://moviesblog.mtv.com/2009/04/21/michael-bay-afraid-to-offend-leonard-nimoy-with-transformers-family-reunion-offer/ ''Michael Bay Afraid To Offend Leonard Nimoy With ‘Transformers’ Family Reunion Offer'', MTV.com Movies blog, April 21, 2009]</ref>
* In a June 22nd article in Forbes (released online on June 4th), Michael Bay talked about his philosphy in movie-making, his demand of part-ownership of movies he makes, and the revelation that he receives an 8% cut of all toy sales from the ''Transformers'' movies.<ref>[http://www.forbes.com/forbes/2009/0622/celebrity-09-transformers-michael-bay-making-movies-enemies-money.html Michael Bay article on Forbes.com June 4, 2009]</ref>
===Disinformation===
{{cleanup|June 25, 2009}}
* Michael Bay has claimed that the studio is putting out deliberate misinformation, to obscure real leaks.<ref>[http://io9.com/382919/michael-bay-plays-internet-punkd Michael Bay Plays Internet Punk'd]</ref> (Like our jobs weren't hard enough.)
* During San Diego Comic-Con 2008, in an interview on July 25th, [[Simon Furman]] claimed that the film would feature a character called [[The Fallen]], which was a character they created for [[Dreamwave Productions|Dreamwave]]'s ''[[The War Within: The Dark Ages]]''<ref>[http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=17412 Simon Furman confirms The Fallen is a character in an interview with Comic Book Resources]</ref> Three days later, [[IDW Publishing]] writer [[Chris Mowry]] corroborated the claim in an interview with MTV Splash Page, calling "The Fallen" the main villain of ''Revenge'' ([[Arcee (Movie)|Arcee]] was also confirmed in the same interview, but the reference to her was mysteriously removed shortly after publication). <ref>[http://splashpage.mtv.com/2008/07/28/exclusive-transformers-2-prequel-comic-gives-inside-scoop-on-2009-movie/ MTV Splash Page interviews Chris Mowry]</ref> Less than a week after this, however, Michael Bay reiterated that everything leaked thus far is part of their misinformation campaign and that only a handful of people involved with the production of ''Revenge'' have seen the script, contradicting IDW's interviews where their representatives confirm that they have the script. Additionally, Bay claimed the only truth about the film was Sam going to college.<ref>[http://www.shootfortheedit.com/forum/showpost.php?p=44729&postcount=2 A post made by Michael Bay on his forum]</ref> Curiously, on August 5th 2008, after a fan posted on Michael Bay's forum pointing out the contradiction, all references to the Fallen were removed from the aforementioned interviews, as well as any references to IDW Publishing having the script.
* ''Empire'' magazine's February 2009 issue features information on the role of the Egyptian Pyramids in the Movieverse's backstory. Michael Bay also confirmed The Fallen and denied Megatron would be resurrected (this later turned out to be untrue). Ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics resembling helicopters will be revealed to be depictions of Transformers who visited Earth before the pyramids were built.<ref name="EmpireFeb2009">''Empire'' article entitled "20 to watch in 2009", written by Nick de Semelyn, dated February 2009, pages 68 and 69, issue 236</ref>
* After a short and poorly excuted "misinformation campaign" on the part of Michael Bay, Paramount and their licensees where they claimed that Megatron was not in the movie despite all ''officially released'' evidence to the contrary (including Megatron's brief appearance in the February 1 Superbowl tv spot and the February teaser trailer), Roberto Orci confirmed that Megatron does indeed return.<ref name="Megatron returns">[http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/transformers-movie-discussion/180451-welcome-mr-roberto-orci-you-may-ask-him-questions-211.html#post3333713 Roberto Orci confirms Megatron's return on TFW2005.com - February 22, 2009]</ref>
* On March 6, due to the reports of Weaving's return, Michael Bay finally admitted Megatron was back, but claimed that Megatron would only appear briefly in a flashback to the past, despite the fact Megatron can be seen pinning Sam Witwicky to the ground in ''Revenge's'' tv spot and teaser trailer. One can assume that the director was trying to salvage some form of audience surprise in seeing Megatron return in the movie. In other news of a presumably legitimate kind, Bay said that the movie would go into the distant past and explain the history of the [[Prime]]s.<ref>[http://www.shootfortheedit.com/forum/showpost.php?p=66825&postcount=4 Michael Bay on his forum - March 6, 2009]</ref>
===''Transformers'' sequel and the 2007-2008 Writers Strike===
In late 2007, during preproduction for then-untitled ''Transformers'' sequel, the [[wikipedia:2007–2008 Writers Guild of America strike|Writers Guild of America went on strike]]. At the time, Roberto Orci stated that the strike could likely delay ''Transformers 2's'' release. However, Michael Bay refuted this, claiming the movie was still on schedule.<ref>[http://www.shootfortheedit.com/forum/showthread.php?p=6200#post6200 Robert Orci discusses the strike & TF2]</ref> The reason behind Bay's confidence was discovered by Orci shortly after the strike ended. The director had apparently taken the outline the writers had handed in the night before the strike, and begun movie prep based on it.<ref>[http://www.donmurphy.net/board/showthread.php?t=24357&page=4 Don Murphy message board - Orci on the aftermath of the strike]</ref>
Further, Transformers in different [[Continuities|universes]] often use different units for measurement, and sometimes even use the same unit name but define it differnetly. Following is a list of '''units of [[time]]''' that Cybertronians have been observed using.
|'''Astrosecond'''||.498 seconds||Defined by Dreamwave's ''[[More Than Meets The Eye]]'' #8 as 1/1000th of a breem. Astroseconds as referenced in the [[Generation 1 (cartoon)|''Generation 1'' cartoon]] seem to be much shorter, but were never defined. In particular, in "[[Divide and Conquer]]" Shockwave states that the [[space bridge]] will materialize within 72 billion astroseconds, an interval exceeding a millenium if Dreamwave's definition is applied. Even ignoring this extreme case, astroseconds in general cartoon use appeared to be much less than one second each.
|-
|'''Breem'''||8.3 minutes||Originally defined in the [[Marvel Comics]], also used in [[Dreamwave]]'s comics.
|-
|'''Century'''||???||In the ''[[Transformers Animated (cartoon)|Transformers Animated]]'' premiere, "[[Transform and Roll Out!]]", several references are made to the [[Great War]]s ending "centuries ago", all prior to first contact between Transformers and [[Earth]]. This is probably a case of dialogue being written for human observers rather than indicating the existence of a "Cybertronian century", but it is included here for completeness. Similarly, the history video at the very beginning of the episode refers to "millions of years", an Earth unit. It is unclear how this time should be interpreted. Starscream also refers to the search for the All Spark as lasting "centuries", which is at odds with Megatron's own statement that it has been "four million solar cycles" (see below).
|-
|'''Cycle''' (Animated)||???||In "[[Rise of the Constructicons]]", [[Bumblebee (Animated)|Bumblebee]] asks [[Optimus Prime (Animated)|Prime]] if he can take a coolant break. Prime responds that he just had a break "two cycles ago". From this is sounds as if a cycle is relatively short -- less than a day, certainly -- but its actual duration is unclear. Given that a minute-like unit (the nanoclick) was already established for this continuity, the cycle may be more hour-like.
|-
|'''Cycle''' (G1 UK comics)||2 hours||In the United Kingdom Generation 1 comic story, "[[Target 2006]]", [[Ultra Magnus (G1)|Ultra Magnus]] timed his mission on Earth in Cycles that were exactly equal to 2 hours.
|-
|'''Cycle''' (Beast Wars)||~1 minute||[[Beast Wars (cartoon)|''Beast Wars'' cartoon]] story editors [[Bob Forward]] and [[Larry DiTillio]] stated that the "cycles" used in their series were ''very roughly'' equivalent to a minute. Maybe more, maybe less, but something of that order of magnitude.
|-
|'''Cycle''' (IDW comics)||1 hour 15 minutes (1.25 hours)||Defined for use in the IDW universe by [[Simon Furman]] in a forum post.[http://idwpublishing.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=150]
|-
|'''Decacycle''' (Animated)||???||In "[[Fistful of Energon]]", [[Ultra Magnus (Animated)|Ultra Magnus]] calls to report that [[Starscream (Animated)|Starscream]] has escaped. He says that it happened "a decacycle ago", and that he would have called sooner but their [[tachyon transmitter]] was missing. (The spelling, without a hyphen, comes from closed captions and differs from the ''Beast Wars'' spelling.)
|-
|'''Deca-cycle''' (Beast Wars)||~1 year||As with the ''Beast Wars'' cycle, this unit is on the order of a year, as defined by the series's story editors.
|-
|'''Deca-cycle''' (IDW comics)||~3 weeks||Defined for use in the IDW universe by Simon Furman in a forum post.
|-
|'''Groon'''||~1 hour||Roughly equivalent to an hour. In "[[The Magnificent Six!]]", [[Megadeath]] let his broken Autobot prisoners go with a neutronic blast imminent in two groons. Retelling this event to [[Silverbolt (G1)|Silverbolt]] in 1990, [[Jazz (G1)|Jazz]] described the time as two hours.
|-
|'''Joor'''||???||Used idiomatically like "hour", but of unknown duration. In "[[The Magnificent Six!]]", [[Steamhammer (G1)|Steamhammer]] had an inspection parade scheduled at 0700 joors, not long after Cybertron's lunar dawn.
|-
|'''Klik'''||1.2 minutes||Defined for use in the IDW universe by Simon Furman in a forum post.
|-
|'''Megacycle''' (Animated)||~1 day or ~1 hour||In "[[Lost and Found]]" Ratchet estimated that it would take 10 mega-cycles to repair the [[Autobot ship (Animated)|Autobots' ship]] even with the help of [[Sari's key]]. The Autobots seemed to consider this to be a moderately long time, but not so long for it to be unrealistic that they might repair the ship before the Decepticons come at them in force. Later, in "[[Rise of the Constructicons]]", [[Bulkhead (Animated)|Bulkhead]] defends the [[Constructicon (Animated)|Constructicon]]s' behavior, asserting that "they've been online two, three megacycles tops." Thus, the megacycle may be daylike in duration, but this is quite uncertain. (The spelling, without a hyphen, comes from closed captioning and differs from the ''Beast Wars'' spelling.)
|-
|'''Mega-cycle''' (Beast Wars)||~1 hour||As with the ''Beast Wars'' cycle, this unit is ''on the order of'' an hour, as defined by the series' story editors. Used incongruously in "[[The Agenda (Part 1)]]" to refer to a much longer span of time. (One of the [[Tripredacus Council]] says, "His ship and the Axalon both vanished last megacycle. The Maximal probes never found them.") [[Ben Yee]] cites a statement from DiTillio that another unit—the deca-cycle—is roughly year-like in length.[http://www.bwtf.com/bw/tvshow/geninfo.shtml] This may be the unit that was intended for that line of dialogue.
|-
|'''Mega-cycle''' (IDW comics)||93 hours||Defined for use in the IDW universe by Simon Furman in a forum post.
|-
|'''Meta-cycle'''||13 months||Defined for use in the IDW universe by Simon Furman in a forum post.
|-
|'''Milli-cycle'''||???||A unit of undetermined duration. It was often mentioned since Episode 6 in [[Beast Wars (cartoon)|''Beast Wars'' cartoon]].
|-
|'''Nanoclick''' (Animated)||~1 second or ~1 minute?||In "[[Home Is Where the Spark Is]]", Optimus Prime enters Prowl's quarters asking, "Prowl, got a nanoclick?" Also, in "[[Fistful of Energon]]" [[Lockdown]] tells [[Prowl (Animated)|Prowl]] to "Wait a nanoclick." Idiomatically, then, this nanoclick is similar to either the English unit "second" or "minute", although its actual length is unknown. (The spelling of this unit comes from closed captions and differs from the ''Beast Wars'' spelling.)
|-
|'''Nano-klik''' (Beast Wars)||~1 second||As with the ''Beast Wars'' cycle, this unit is ''on the order of'' a second, as defined by the series' story editors. Used similarly in [[IDW]] comics.
|-
|'''Orn'''||???||A unit of undetermined duration. It is apparently defined as "one Cybertronian lunar day".
|-
|'''Quartex'''||???||A unit of undetermined duration. In the very first ''Transformers'' cartoon episode, "[[More Than Meets the Eye, Part 1]]", [[Wheeljack (G1)|Wheeljack]] complains that the shoddy [[energy conductors]] he and [[Bumblebee (G1)|Bumblebee]] picked up don't have enough juice in them to last a quartex, so make of that what you will.
|-
|'''Solar cycle''' (Animated)||~1 year||In "[[Transform and Roll Out!]], Part 1", Megatron says he has spent "the last four million solar cycles searching the galaxy" for the All Spark. The parallel to ''Generation 1''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s famous "four million years" implies that this unit is meant to be year-like. In "Part 3" Starscream refers to the 50-years of searching between the battle where "he defeated Megatron" and the present as 50 solar cycles, cementing this definition. In "Part 2", Optimus Prime and Ratchet have an exchange in which they use "solar cycle" in a way that is a better idiomatic match for "day" than "year", but, "year" can still work in that case. ("Stellar cycle" has also been used, but appears to be the same unit; see below.)
|-
|'''Solar cycle''' (Beast Machines)||~1 day||In the ''Beast Machines'' episode "[[The Weak Component]]", Rattrap uses the term "half a solar cycle" to describe the amount of time the Maximal would leave Megatron alone in order to regain his strength: one night, from dusk-to-dawn.
|-
|'''Stellar cycle''' (Animated)||~1 year||In the ''Animated'' episode "[[Along Came a Spider]]", [[Blackarachnia (Animated)|Blackarachnia]] says that her accident occured "a thousand steller cycles" ago. Further, in "[[Megatron Rising - Part II]]" [[Megatron (Animated)|Megatron]] refers to both "fifty stellar cycles" and "four million stellar cycles", synching up with previous references to solar cycles. Thus, stellar cycle is apparently synonomous with solar cycle in this continuity. It is possible that while solar cycles refer to a unit of time based on a planet's rotation around the sun, a stellar cycle is a roughly equivalent universal standard used by the transformers, who inhabit multiple planets with doubtless varying solar years.
|-
|'''Stellar cycle''' (Beast Wars)||~400 days||Orbital period (a Cybertronian "year") for Cybertron as stated by Larry DiTillio in information sent to Ben Yee. DiTillio also volunteers that Cybertron's rotational period (a "day") is ~20 hours.
==Summary==
In some usual rocky terrain, the [[Maximals]] are disappointed to learn that their day's expedition has been a waste of time, as the [[Energon]] they were searching for is inaccessible. [[Rattrap]] whines, saying the situation couldn't get worse, prompting an attack from the [[Predacon (BW)|Predacons]]. The Maximals are at a clear disadvantage, but [[Rhinox (BW)|Rhinox]] triggers a rockslide that crushes all the Predacons.

[[Optimus Primal|Optimus]] commends Rhinox's intelligent tactics, and the Maximals begin their return to base. [[Megatron (BW)|Megatron]] also determines that Rhinox is a major threat to his operation and orders [[Tarantulas]] to capture the large Maximal. When Rhinox is a distance behind the other Maximals on the road him, the spider captures Rhinox and knocks the rhino out with some [[cyber venom]].

A while later, the Maximals noticed their large comrade has disappeared. Rattrap activates his communicator, and are able to listen through Rhinox's communicator, overhearing the events in the Predacon base where Megatron uses "The Transmuter" to turn Rhinox into an evil Predacon. While the Maximals are concerned, Primal plans to wait a while before the Maximals make an effort to rescue their friend, yessssssss...

In the [[Darksyde|Predacon base]], Megatron, and his new underling, Evil Rhinox, get down to plotting on how they can use Rhinox's knowledge to destroy the Maximals - but some technical problems with Megatron's computer halt the planning session. Rhinox is sent to check up on [[Scorponok (BW)|Scorponok's]] repair of the system (which was secretly vandalised by Rhinox). With no witnesses, Rhinox drops several tons of hardware onto Scorponok. When Scorponok's flattened body is found later by Megatron and [[Waspinator]], they have no clue who committed the crime.

Waspinator deposits Scorponok into a [[CR Chamber]] for repair, but flying away, Waspinator is hit with a heavy piece of weight pushed by Rhinox. The impact drives Waspinator into a state of dementia. This time, Rhinox's attempt at homicide is witnessed by [[Terrorsaur (BW)|Terrorsaur]], who meets with Rhinox in private. There, Rhinox declines Terrorsaur's offer of partnership and insists that Terrorsaur stay silent. Later, Megatron discovers that the spiders have been poisoned. Still oblivious, a furious Megatron demands shouts out his confusion.

Outside of the Pred base, [[Cheetor (BW)|Cheetor]] figures out Primal's plan: leave Rhinox as he is, so he'll run roughshod over the Predacons. But knowing that Megatron will eventually wise up, the Maximals get ready to mount a rescue. At the same time, Scorponok has been repaired, and he tells Megatron what happened to him. Megatron concludes that his little experiment has gone wrong, and decides to end it{{m-}}and Rhinox as well.

Megatron confronts Rhinox, and assigns Scorponok and Terrorsaur to disarm the new recruit. By mentioning Terrorsaur's plotting, Rhinox is able to get the two Predacon goons to fight each other instead of himself, leaving them as easy pickings. With those two taken care of, he opens fire on Megatron, causing the Predacon to fall off his hover platform.

Rhinox taunts Megatron with a speech about who's the boss now, but Rhinox has stepped into the range of the Transmuter. Megatron reactivates the machine, converting Rhinox back to his regular good self. The Maximals blast their way into the base. Primal battles with Megatron, slicing off one of the Predacon leader's arms. A stray shot from the still demented Waspinator hits the Transmuter, and the Maximals grab Rhinox evacuate while the Predacons take cover to avoid being harmed by the exploding machine.

Afterwards, the Maximals relax. Rhinox admits that the Predacons have some serious personality problems, and the Maximals have a big laugh. Except for [[Dinobot (BW)|Dinobot]].
*When [[Waspinator]] is driven temporarily insane, he babbles that his name is [[Shrapnel (G1)|Shrapnel]], an Insecticon from the [[Generation 1]] [[continuity family]]. Stuck like this for the rest of the episode, he proceeds to stutter and repeat words in a semi-accurate reference to the distinctive speech pattern that Shrapnel had in the G1 cartoon, which saw him repeat the last word of his sentences. Waspinator also delivers the classic TF slogan "More than meets the eye."
*The concept of Rhinox being reprogrammed by Megatron only to attempt to overthrow him later is revisited in the sequel series, [[Beast Machines]]. It is worth noting that Tankor's behaviour in that series is very similar to his (Rhinox's) behaviour as a Predacon during this episode.
*Both Optimus and Rhinox say "Yeeessssss..." in a very similar manner to Megatron. Imitation IS the sincerest form of flattery...

===Real-World References===
*Immediately following saying that he is Shrapnel, Waspinator claims that he is "Wonko! Wonko the Sane!" and salutes the audience before punching himself in the head. In addition to being a fictional character created by the sci-fi comedy author [[Wikipedia:Douglas_Adams|Douglas Adams]], it is a tribute to transfan [[Ben Yee]], whose online username was Wonko the Sane at the time.
*The scene where Optimus Primal proudly brandishes his swords before an unimpressed Megatron lazily shoots him down is reminiscent of the famous duel between [[Wikipedia:Indiana_Jones|Indiana Jones]] and the master swordsman in ''[[Wikipedia:Raiders_of_the_Lost_Ark|Raiders of the Lost Ark]]''. Dinobot pushing Scorponok into his rotor blade weapon echoes the demise of the German engineer later in the movie.
*While Waspinator is insane (well, more insane than usual), he briefly appears to be touching Blackarachnia's right chestplate.

===Trivia===
This is probably the first time Waspinator refers to himself as "I", although in truth, he said this in his insane state when he thought he was [[Shrapnel (G1)|Shrapnel]].
==Summary==
While out on a specimen gathering mission, Optimus Primal and Dinobot are ambushed by Scorponok, who manages to implant a Cyber Bee onto Optimus' chest before being driven away. Back at base, it's learned that the Bee contains a viral mine designed by Scorponok to infect Optimus' core systems and humble his personality, making him too cowardly to adequately lead. Because the mine has infected all of Primal's core systems, removing the Bee is impossible without killing the Maximal commander, and doing so would trigger a self-destruct in the Bee that would destroy everything within a given radius, regardless.

However, when the mine is fully activated, it ends up having the opposite effect on Primal, turning him into a crazed berserker. Obviously, Scorponok's 'notorious incompetence' has caused the Predacons' plan to backfire. Still, in his current state, Primal is now a danger to himself and his teammates, and is still at risk of perishing under the system drain of the mine, forcing the Maximals to confine him while they debate over what to do next, knowing that Scorponok would have the antivirus for the mine but unsure of how to acquire it. With what little bit of clarity he has left, Optimus convinces Cheetor that they could use the mine against the Preds, taking advantage of their lack of knowledge of the mine's malfunction to launch a surprise assault to force the Preds into relinquishing the antivirus, but when brought to the rest of the crew, his plan is shot down as being far too risky and dangerous to attempt, prompting Optimus to strike out on his own.

Their options running short, Dinobot ironically suggests they 'think like the old Optimus' and suggests negotiating with the Predacons for the cure, but their attempt only serves to give the Predacons advanced warning of Optimus' new state and his oncoming assault. Now with the Preds on full alert and with no other course of action to take, the Maximals begrudgingly follow Optimus to the [[Darksyde|Predacon base]] to give him covering fire in his one-ape assault. Meanwhile, Optimus manages to thrash through all of Megatron's crew before confronting Megatron, who teasingly dangles the cure in front of his nose while giving an ultimatum: submit to him and live, or stay defiant and die from the mine. Optimus, inspired by a plant specimen from the mission at the beginning of the episode, chooses a third option, and rips the Bee from his chest, activating its self-destruct while tossing it onto Megatron, who is forced to drop the anti-virus and flee to Scorponok for help. Fortunately for Primal, the cavalry manages to arrive just in time for Cheetor to grab the cure and administrate it to the Maximal leader before his spark gives out, and the Cyber Bee blows. With the crisis averted, the Maximals return to the Axalon to nurse their commander back to health.
==Summary==
Primal watches a bolt of lightning shatter a mountain, revealing a cache of [[Energon]]. Because of the hazardous conditions, he radios to his team to abort their current operation. The storm garbles the transmission, though, preventing the other [[Maximals]] from receiving it. The mission, by the way, involves energon monitoring devices, designed by Rhinox, who has just gotten done building the last of them. Impatient to get going, Cheetor carelessly plays with one of Dinobot's projects, a ''time bomb'', and accidentally drops it out the floor hatch...where it's caught by a returning Primal, who reiterates his order for the mission to be scrubbed. Everyone's clearly upset over the development, not believing the storm to be that severe yet, but Primal is adamant; it'll have to wait until later. Dejected, everyone returns to quarters to wait out the storm.

In Cheetor's quarters, Dinobot meets with the cat-bot and endorses the mission being continued regardless of the danger from the weather and the energon. He points out that Primal clearly treats Cheetor like a child, even though with his speed, the cat-bot could easily outrun the storm and plant the devices before it hits. This appeal to vanity works, and Cheetor sneaks out to complete the mission.

In the field, he plants survey apparatuses in quick succession, but a bolt of lightning causes the cat accidentally to plant one of the posts dangerously close to an energon vein. He tries to remove the device and correct his mistake, but in the middle of his struggle, a second lighting bolt hits, and he finds himself suddenly teleported—onto a control panel in the [[Darksyde|Predacon base]]!

Terrorsaur "welcomes" Cheetor and attacks the Maximal, but Cheetor grabs a hover-platform and tries to escape. After being knocked off the platform, Cheetor lunges at Terrorsaur and pushes the Predacon onto the control panel the Maximal arrived on, causing Terrorsaur to vanish. Scorponok and Waspinator arrive and chase Cheetor around the Predacon base, but lose him in the ventilation shafts.

Meanwhile, Terrorsaur finds himself in the ''[[Axalon]]'' command center, where he's given a warm reception by Dinobot. However, the former [[Predacon (BW)|Predacon]] is more concerned over how the pteranodon arrived, eventually working out that a freak combination of the survey devices, the storm, and the energon created a transporter link between the two bases. Using this to his advantage, Terrorsaur seems to convince Dinobot into forming an alliance, swearing to rid themselves of both factions and rule together...until Dinobot drops the charade and unceremoniously flushes the Pred out of the ''Axalon'' through a waste disposal unit.

Back at the Predacon base, Cheetor continues to flee while avoiding fire from Waspinator. He sneaks away from the two long enough to determine that both bases sit on a common underground Energon vein, so an explosion at one base would cause a chain reaction that would obliterate both ships. Cheetor is discovered as soon as he outputs this data to a disk.

At the Maximal base, Primal confronts Dinobot on Cheetor's whereabouts. Dinobot tells him about the link and how the cat-bot has "surely" been destroyed by now, but convinces him that they could use the link to annihilate the Pred base with the bomb, a plan Primal only agrees to as long as the bomb's timer is set with enough time to allow the Preds to evacuate. Just as the bomb is sent, though, Cheetor tosses the disk with the energon vein data onto the console, transporting both items simultaneously. Cheetor is cornered just then, but by that time, the bomb has magnetically locked itself onto the Pred console, forcing the Preds to let him go so he can release it. With a few seconds left, Cheetor throws it up to Terrorsaur, who flies it out of the base (and is blown up with it), while Cheetor escapes through the link...just as he's shot at by the Preds, the errant shots destroying the console instead. Furthermore, his return trip to the ''Axalon'' shatters all of the survey posts he's planted, ensuring the link is severed for good.

Afterwards, Rhinox and Rattrap congratulate Cheetor's prevention of the Maximal base from being destroyed by their own explosive, while Dinobot is in a bad mood as usual and leaves—though Cheetor apparently didn't tell anyone that Dinobot talked him into the whole thing. Primal still commands Cheetor to take more care to obey direct orders. Cheetor says he will—except when he doesn't—and scampers off, leaving Rhinox and Rattrap to have a jolly laugh.
==Notes==

*Dinobot is kind of a jerk this early on.

===Technical/Animation glitches===
*After Cheetor escapes from the vents, he falls to the ground and his left forehead chevron kind of "twangs" forward. In the next scene he's in, it's back to normal against his head.

===Continuity errors===
*A major plot point is that due to a Energon vein running beneath both ships, the destruction of either Predacon or Maximal bases would destroy the other. This is never mentioned again and frequently contradicted due to the repeated explosions at both. While most of the planet's energon was stabilised by the start of Season 2 and so wouldn't be an issue, Season 1's episode [[Victory (Beast Wars episode)|Victory's]] plot revolves around... a massive explosion at the Predacon base.

===Transformers references===
*When Cheetor appears before him, Terrorsaur greets him thus: "Welcome to the dark side!" The episode script reveals that this was simply Terrorsaur being dramatic. However, because Transformers fans can be ''incredibly'' literal, some fans speculatively latched on to the idea that Terrorsaur was welcoming Cheetor to the "''Dark Side''", supposedly giving the Predacon ship/base a proper name.
*This bit of [[fanon]] was made official by the the videogame [[Transformers Beast Wars: Transmetals]]. Years later, the ship's name was further codified by the [[Botcon 2006]] story "[[Dawn of Future's Past]]", which dodged trademark issues by giving it the intentional misspelling "[[Darksyde]]".
*This is what happens when fans are allowed to run things. Seriously.
*Curiously, at no point has anybody interpreted Dinobot's line as suggesting the Maximal base is meant to be called "Enemy Arms".
'''Rampage''' (also known as '''Protoform X''') is the awful result of scientific experimentation gone awry. He is a serial killer and cannibal, with an immortal [[spark]] that ensures his twisted brand of horror and misery will live on as long as he does (forever, presumably). Rampage detects and draws strength from the emotions of others, literally feeding on the pain and suffering he causes. As an unwilling conscript of the [[Predacons]], he is contemptuous (at best) of the rest of his team, typically bored and uncooperative on missions, and he frequently sneaks off for his own purposes to try to relieve his boredom in the most cruel and horrible ways possible.
[[Image:Protoformxcargo.jpg|left|thumb|200px|The Maximals should consider making their scandalous super-secret projects a little smaller.]]
While preparing for a deep-space exploration mission, the Maximal crew of the ''[[Axalon (BW)|Axalon]]'' stopped for a few weeks at a space station. Here, [[Rhinox (BW)|Rhinox]] helped acquire a mysterious complement to their cargo, a very large [[protoform]] branded with an X. The ''Axalon'' was ordered to dispose of "Protoform X" on a barren moon somewhere in the [[Alpha Quadrant]]. However, before its captain, [[Optimus Primal]], was able to explain the circumstances fully to his crew, they were suddenly under even newer orders to pursue a stolen [[Predacon (BW)|Predacon]] ship, the ''[[Darksyde]]''. Subsequently, the ''Axalon'' followed the ''Darksyde'' through a [[transwarp]] portal and crash-landed on a mysterious planet. {{storylink|Dawn of Future's Past}}

===''Beast Wars''===
:''Voice Actor: [[Campbell Lane]] (English); [[Nobuyuki Hiyama]] (Japanese)''

[[Image:BWRampage_Badspark_thepast.jpg|thumb|right|200px|This is a great way to work out.]]

Protoform X was a [[Maximal]] experiment to recreate [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream's]] mutant, immortal [[Spark]]. Though arguably successful in this regard, the creation was unstable. In point of fact, he was criminally insane. He destroyed [[Colony Omicron]], killing all of its inhabitants save a lone security officer, [[Depth Charge]], who eventually tracked him down and captured him - but not before Rampage destroyed [[Starbase Rugby]] and ''devoured'' an unknown number of the inhabitants. The [[Maximal Elder|Maximal Elders]] had Protoform X placed into a [[stasis pod]] aboard an exploration vessel, the ''Axalon''. They instructed its commander, Optimus Primal, to dump him on some barren world in deep space.

Protoform X was among the stasis pods jettisoned by Optimus when the ''Axalon'' was damaged by [[Megatron (BW)|Megatron's]] Predacons, and only fell out of orbit far into the Beast Wars. Battle near his stasis pod shocked him into activation, and he promptly set out to terrorize all nearby Transformers, rending Tarantulas limb from limb and stalking Blackarachnia and Silverbolt. (All right, whose bright idea was it to allow the homicidal maniac to keep his weapons!?) X seemed unstoppable at first, but when one of Silverbolt's missiles jammed his tank treads as he climbed up a mountainside, he lost his grip and tumbled down the rock face in pieces.

As Protoform X lay immobilized, Megatron arrived and, using a blade of pure [[energon]], removed a portion of his indestructible spark. Megatron then had him brought back to the Predacon base and repaired. When X attempted to turn his weapons on his "savior", Megatron revealed that he held half of X's spark in a special cage lined with energon crystals, allowing him to torture the beast at will. Megatron thus welcomed him into the Predacon fold, dubbing him "Rampage". {{Storylink|Bad Spark}}

Rampage made no secret of his hatred for his new "master". Megatron kept the spark cage with him at all times, fending off at least one attempt by Rampage to take it back. Megatron eventually used the spark fragment to form the core of [[Dinobot 2]], who likewise retained the ability torture Rampage into continued loyalty with it. {{Storylink|Feral Scream Part 1}}

[[Image:Rampage-sillyhead.jpg|left|thumb|250px|I am horror and fear given form! BOOGA BOOGA BOOGA!]]
Though a violent sociopath, Rampage was not without compassion. He found a kindred spirit in the badly damaged [[Transmutate]] and sought to protect it from the other Predacons. When Transmutate was killed, Rampage bellowed in grief. {{storylink|Transmutate (Beast Wars episode)|Transmutate}}

Later, Depth Charge arrived on prehistoric Earth with the single-minded goal of destroying Rampage. Rampage was beside himself with joy, eager for revenge on his old "playmate". Depth Charge's loss at Colony Omicron had embittered him, and Rampage used this emotional wound to torment the Maximal. They met in battle numerous times, fairly evenly matched. {{Storylink|Deep Metal}}

While Megatron was retrieving the submerged [[Decepticon]] craft ''[[Nemesis]]'', Depth Charge met Rampage in battle one last time. At the battle's climax, Rampage allowed Depth Charge to kill him with a shard of raw Energon, resulting in a fantastic explosion which destroyed both. Rampage won even in death, laughing maniacally in triumph as Depth Charge made the final, stabbing blow. {{Storylink|Nemesis Part 1}}

:Rampage transforms into a Transmetal king crab with a tank mode that includes rubber treads. In beast mode, he features fully articulated crab legs and pincers that can open, close and be posed in a variety of angles through the use of ratcheting joints. His triple-barreled Gatling missile launcher is stored on the underside of the beast mode, with its barrels flipping to the front during vehicle mode. In this tank mode, the crab legs fit together to form a road wheel network for Rampage's rubber treads to fit over so he can roll upon them. Rolling the tank activates the wheel in the missile launcher, firing any or all of the three missiles that can store in it.

:In robot mode, Rampage is an imposingly large figure with a decent level of articulation due to his ball joints, but because he wears most of his beast mode as a sort of backpack, he is quite back-heavy. His (very) small laser rifle and his triple-barreled launcher can be held in both of his hands. It should be noted that there were two releases of the toy, one with face colors accurate with the show and another with an orange colored face (seen to the right).

:The location of four of the crab legs in the show is not accurate to the toy; the show has the legs on the shoulder pads, whereas the toy situates the legs on Rampage's arms (which mean they are rather cumbersome).

: This toy was later [[redeco]]ed into the [[BotCon 2000]]-[[exclusive]] [[Shokaract]].

==Trivia==
* According to the series background materials published in the ''[[Beast Wars Universe]]'' guidebook, Rampage's body was supposed to have been constructed out of leftover G1-era [[Reproduction|technology]] seen in the [[Great War]] due to the lack of know-how for protoform technology.
* Strangely, his energon-boost that revived him, seen in "Bad Spark", took place in the dense jungle, despite his awakening in a King Crab Beast Mode. No explanation has been given. Maybe there was a crab skittering around Starbase Rugby.
* Some fans are split on how to interpret Rampage's death; he is clearly shown to let go of the energon shard that killed him prior to being stabbed with it, to which Depth Charge reacted in surprise. Because of this, some fans feel this means Rampage, knowing he couldn't win the struggle, allowed himself to be impaled in order to end his torturous existence (and laughing in the giddy euphoria of oblivion), while others believe he deliberately let go to test whether or not Depth Charge would go through with his threat of ending his life, his laughter instead being taken as solace in the knowledge that Depth Charge's obsession with him had successfully corrupted him into the same kind of monster he wanted to kill. Or, Rampage could just be batshit insane.
* No explanation is ever given for why energon suddenly kills Rampage, even though Megatron's been poking his spark with it ever since he appeared.
