Peter Benjamin Parker is a photographer for the Daily Bugle newspaper under Editor-in-Chief Joe Robertson. Parker is also the friendly costumed hero Spider-Man. Spider-Man possesses the abilities of Earth arachnids, allowing him to fire thread-like projectiles from his wrists. These threads may be used to spin webs of near-limitless size, as well as to capture thieves and other assorted rogues in the selfsame manner as a spider entraps traditional insects. Those who wonder about his boundless strength would be advised to listen closely, as his spectacular might is the result of radioactive energy flowing through his very veins. The aforementioned web-like materials fired from his wrists can also be used as a means of swinging to and fro, meaning that those who wish to observe the Spider-Man in action can best do so by simply looking overhead. In addition, he is known to be primarily a nocturnal adventurer, appearing in the deep of night wherever evil is afoot. His alacrity is so great, his timing so amazing, he has been compared to a flash of light. Despite his best efforts and good intentions, it seems that his attempts at justice are often overlooked, and while other heroes may find celebrity and fortune, poor Parker is constantly in one hang-up or another. Regardless, the Spider-Man soldiers on; wherever there is a fight or ruckus or tussle, the Spider-Man can be found!

Sometimes he has a black costume, which he can control with his mind, and can shapeshift into normal clothes.

He's kind of a smartass.
Marvel Generation 1 comics
noteukonly
In 1984, while covering the news of the new Decepticon fortress in Oregon, Peter Parker/Spider-Man intercepted Gears, who had been sent on a scouting mission, and attacked, thinking Gears was one of the invaders. When Skywarp threw a tank at a gaggle of unwary reporters, Gears saved them, convincing Spider-Man he was good.

Spider-Man teamed up with the Autobots to help rescue Sparkplug Witwicky from the Decepticons. Spider-Man noted that he has had many adventures in his long history as a superhero. Optimus Prime replied that he is sure tales of his exploits would be interesting... they could possibly even be described as amazing.

Spidey managed to get the Autobots past the army with a little subterfuge, which lasted about ten seconds. While the Autobots dealt with both the human army and some invading Decepticons, he and Gears made their way into the base. After dispatching the cassettes and Soundwave, the pair found Sparkplug, and Megatron! He used his webbing to completely mummify Megatron, but it didn't hold for very long. Megatron blasted a hole in the floor of their base, so Gears, and Sparkplug would plummet to their deaths. Webbing saved Spider and Spark, but couldn't hold Gears' weight.

Spider-Man was aghast that the Autobots would treat their comrade's apparent death so nonchalantly. He followed the Autobots back to the Ark, and Prime failed to explain in any adequate sense how Gears was neither dead nor alive right then. But Spider-Man couldn't stick around, so he left. Prisoner of War!
Later, Spider-Man had become an iconic figure wearing a different costume, featuring a red mask with a black spiderweb pattern. Noah Acton wears a t-shirt bearing his likeness, indicating either kid appeal or counterculture status. Decepticon Graffiti!
IDW Generation 1 comics
As part of the Avengers, Spider-Man traveled to Latveria to investigate Doctor Doom's apparent attack on the neighboring country, Symkaria. Upon arrival, he and his fellow heroes found a dome-shaped structure emitting radiation and broke into it. Inside the building, they came under attack from automated laser turrets, and while Spider-Man was busy webbing them up and cracking jokes, he was suddenly electrocuted into submission and kidnapped by Runabout. When he regained consciousness, he found himself strapped to a table by a giant robot named Megatron, who explained that the hero was about to help him and his Decepticons conquer the world. Man and Machine, Part One Megatron began extracting Spider-Man's radioactive blood, refining it into a powerful energon isotope that he used to supercharge his troops. All Spidey could do was lay there and weakly taunt him. Man and Machine, Part Two

Luke Cage and Ratchet came to his rescue, but were promptly defeated by the charged-up Megatron. Man and Machine, Part Three However, after Megatron left to deal with the attacking Avengers and Autobots outside, Spider-Man proved he still had enough strength to burst out of his restraints. After meeting with Ratchet and Prowl, he agreed to power them up using Megatron's device as well. Ultimately, he didn't have to sacrifice even more blood, though, as Wolverine offered to take his place. Spider-Man followed Ratchet and Prowl outside, where he webbed up Megatron in an attempt to stop him from escaping. It ultimately failed, but at least he made the Decepticon leader look mighty silly as he lay tied up and helpless on the ground! After everything was wrapped up, Spidey and the other Avengers returned home on the Quinjet. Man and Machine, Part Four
Crossovers
Unseen scientist Mister Fantastic constructed large, transforming battle armour for various superhumans; Spider-Man received two, one based on each of his costumes, both of which could transform into a high-speed motorcycle. It is likely Richards gained the idea from Spider-Man, as it is inconceivable the encounter with the Transformers wouldn't have a lasting impact on the vigilante.

One sign of such an impact is that Spider-Man's activities seem to be focused solely on fighting hostile aliens. One of those aliens has somehow stolen and altered Spider-Man's loyal living costume; how he'll reclaim it is unknown. He clearly misses it, based on his second, black-painted armour!

Spider-Man later teamed up with fellow superhero Iron Man, who built him a third battle suit—one that transformed into a helicopter and could combine with Iron Man's own bomber mech to form a "super jet".

Iron Man apparently has a soft spot for the wall-crawler, as he constructed Spider-Man a fourth battle suit for when two wheels just aren't good enough. The transforming car mech can match Iron Man's suit in speed and is better armored than the original cycle suit.
:Crossovers Spider-Man transforms into a red and blue motorcycle. He has a "webbing missile" launcher on each arm, and the missiles become twin exhaust pipes in vehicle mode. Also, much of his transformation mirrors that of the 2007 movie Arcee.
:A solid black redeco of the above toy, including the formerly transparent parts. Er, yeah.

:Although this likeness of Spider-Man is obviously his appearance after he was infected by the Symbiotes (hence his proper name now being Symbiote Spider-Man), he was most likely named "Black Costume" to avoid trademark issues.
*Spider-Man (Marvel, 2010)

:This Spider-Man toy transforms into a streamlined futuristic "Spider-Car" based loosely on a Peugeot 908 V12 HDi DPFS LeMans-style racer. It is fairly compact and unfolds in to a roughly 7" tall robot with much more angular features than the original motorcycle version. Unlike nearly ever other Crossovers figure, this one lacks a gimmick of any kind other than being a transforming Spider-Man.

:The toy's instructions are also somewhat crazy as they go through the entire transformation sequence, then ends with a picture of Spider-Man transformed a totally different way from the waist down (resembling the picture on the back of the card). This was likely done because transforming him the correct way makes it impossible for him to stand without splaying his legs far out to the sides. The instructions also fail to note the step wherein his legs extend slightly to reveal double-jointed knees.

:A second "black costume" redeco, now for the car version of Spider-Man. This toy most likely also encounters the same naming problems as the black repaint before, the most likely reason as to why he is named "Black Costume" Spider-Man.
:A single-packed version of the helicopter Spider-Man from the Iron Man combiner pack, differing only in the shades of red and blue used for the plastic. While he has no combiner buddy anymore, he can always be combined with the similarly single-packed flying wing War Machine toy, if you're so inclined.
Notes
* Including Spider-Man into "Prisoner of War!" as a sales boost was Jim Salicrup's idea, as he was also the Spider-Man editor at the time.
* When Marvel approached Hasbro about the prospect of including Spider-Man in the third issue of the Generation 1 comic book, they initially turned the idea down, since Spider-Man was currently licensed to rival toy company Mattel for the Secret Wars toyline. Marvel convinced them to permit the appearance by putting Spidey in his black costume, whereas the Secret Wars toy was clad in his traditional red and blue, and therefore wouldn't be "advertised" by the comic. This meant adding a footnote to the story explaining that it took place prior to the recent issue of Spidey's own title in which he ditched the black threads upon finding out they were a symbiote.
* Reprints of Spider-Man's encounter with the Iron Man of 2020 were used as a back-up strip in The Transformers UK series.
* Spider-Man's been voiced by several Transformers alumni in the past, including Dan Gilvezan in Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends, James Arnold Taylor in Spider-Man: Friend or Foe, and Josh Keaton in The Spectacular Spider-Man (among other projects).
* Spider-Man, along with the rest of Marvel's starring heroes, appeared in a special border on the cover of Transformers #22. This border was included on all Marvel comics that month, celebrating Marvel Comics' 25th anniversary.
* It's occasionally claimed that a Spider-Man story published as part of the "Clone Saga" during the 1990s features a line where Peter claims that he had never been to Oregon, thereby "clearly" establishing Spidey's guest appearance in issue 3 of the Marvel US Transformers comic as being not part of the mainstream ("616") Marvel universe. In fact, however, Peter claims (in a monologue) having never been to Utah in Spider-Man #57 (1995), since Kaine's murder of Louise Kennedy had happened there (in Spider-Man: The Lost Years #3).

Transformers Beast Wars: Transmetals is a Nintendo 64 video game, released in 1999 in Japan and 2000 in North America. It and its PlayStation counterpart share a primary theme; characters from the second season of the Beast Wars television series duking it out in one-on-one combat, but the games differ in character selection and bonus features.

Plot
When the Maximals captured Megatron, the Predacon commander, it was believed that the Beast Wars were over. The survivors of the war began their journey back to Cybertron aboard an ancient Autobot escape ship. As they traveled through time and space, Megatron succeeded in delivering a message through transwarp, back to himself during a critical chapter in the Beast Wars...

Now, the timeline is destined to be rewritten! But how?

Synopsis
Transmetals features an all-out battle between the Maximals and Predacons. The player's character must fight through all possible enemy forces in order to beat the game. There is a final battle with an upgraded version of Megatron, called "Megatron X". Megatron X is identical to Transmetal Megatron, except chromed and outfitted with a pair of dragon-like wings. The player must fight Megatron X even if said player is using Megatron as their character.

While the PlayStation game has a very vague ending for either faction that generally upholds the status quo, the Nintendo 64 game features individualized text stories for each character, the vast majority of which involve somehow finding the Ark and fiddling about with the timestream.

Endings
Maximals
*Optimus Primal: Primal's leadership skills eventually result in the destruction of the Predacons and the capture of Megatron. The Maximals attach Megatron to the exterior of an Autobot shuttle and fly back to Cybertron. Little do they know that Megatron's arm has gotten free of his bonds and he's about to send a message back to himself in the past... (Whoa, deja vu!)
*Rattrap: Rattrap's resourcefulness eventually results in the complete destruction of Megatron. Back on Cybertron, he's enjoying his return home by hopping between all the local restaurants and pubs, saying, "We're all gonna di-...dine!"
*Cheetor: When Optimus was damaged in battle, an enraged Cheetor charged into battle and swung the tide in the Maximal's favour. With the war over, Primal remarked that Cheetor showed the makings of a great leader; the kid joked that was Optimus's department but who knows, maybe in another universe...
*Tigatron/Airazor: While they played critical roles in the victory, Tigatron felt his true place was on Earth and Airazor, in love with him, decided to join him there. They lived on Earth for many centuries, watching the war damage heal, and wondering about their comrades and if Maximal and Predacon could ever live in peace. They felt that someday they would go to Cybertron, as visitors from a distant world almost forgotten...
*Blackarachnia (sorta): Originally a Predacon, Silverbolt convinced her to switch sides: her defection brought down Megatron and ensured victory! However, on peacetime Cybertron, she began to wonder what it'd be like if she'd stayed a villain, and started working as a double agent for both Tripredacus Council and the Maximals, loyal to neither faction.

Predacons
*Megatron: Megatron successfully destroys all of the Maximals. After achieving this, he enters the Autobot Ark and destroys the legendary Optimus Prime, ensuring a definitive victory for the Decepticons. In 2005, the horrible transformer Unicron attacks Cybertron. With the Matrix destroyed with Prime, can anything stop Unicron?
*Terrorsaur: He bludgeoned both sides into submission, obliterating the Maximals and finally dethroning Megatron! Unfortunately, Terrorsaur was so busy enjoying being a tyrant that he failed to devise a plan to leave Earth and the whole Predacon force was frozen alive in the Ice Age! Perhaps a hundred thousand years will teach Terrorsaur a thing or two about leadership!
*Ravage: He betrayed Megatron, seized the Ark, and began cloning all the dormant Decepticons into new forms. Now he plans to take this army back to future Cybertron: it's time for the Decepticons to conquer time itself!
*Waspinator: The bug finally snapped, deciding he wasn't going to take it anymore, and beat up every single Transformer. He then quit the Predacons and the Beast Wars, and after both sides departed Earth he remained as the benevolent god of a tribe of protohumans. "Waspinator happy now!"
*Starscream: After achieving success in battle, Starscream enters the Ark, the ancient Autobot battle cruiser in which his original body rests in stasis lock. Starscream then infuses himself with the power of his old body, the same way the Predacon Commander Megatron and Optimus Primal increased their power. The result is incredible, and the revived Starscream headed back to Cybertron...
*Tarantulas: Turning on both sides, Tarantulas battered everyone in pursuit of what he'd need to escape Earth. He then left the Beast Wars, returned to his time, and reported to the Tripredacus Council about the Ark's discovery. Now promoted, Tarantulas is in command of a hundred transwarp battle cruisers heading for Earth: "If the Beast Wars aren't over yet, they will be soon! Ha ha ha hee hee hee hee!!"
Notes
* The game includes a bonus feature where images of various Beast Wars toys can be unlocked.
* The English version of the game features the voices of Garry Chalk, Ian Corlett, David Kaye, Doug Parker, Scott McNeil, and Alec Willows.
* The game features several mini-games, mostly involving timed button-mashing.
* The English version of the game had its gameplay altered from the original Japanese release. In the English edition, both player combatants are much more limited in terms of how far the characters can move away from each other. This, whilst keeping the players' combatants in closer and clearer view, severely limits the gameplay mechanics.
:Cobra Commander is a (more or less) human from the Generation 1 continuity family.

Whether he's the scion of a bizarre ancient civilization, a former used car salesman driven to the brink of insanity, or a renegade European scientist, Cobra Commander really hates G.I. Joe. As the leader of the ruthless terrorist organization Cobra, he frequently tries (and fails) to take over the world. No matter what maniacal scheme he comes up with, be it raising an island from the sea to form his own independent nation, editing elementary school text books to read pro-Cobra or etching his face onto the moon with a laser, G.I. Joe is there to try and stop him.

Fiction
The Transformers cartoon
:Voice actor: Chris Latta (English), Ryōichi Tanaka (Japanese), Bernd Simon (German)

By the year 2006, the once mighty Cobra organization had apparently been defeated. Cobra Commander, who was the only one of his organization that had not been put in jail, was now going by the alias "Old Snake". He was left with little to do to pass the time but hire out his services. He was an independent contractor—of terror!

A mob boss named Victor Drath had hired Old Snake once in the past, and decided to hire him again to learn the secret of synthoid technology so that he might use it against the Autobots. Snake took the job and used the synthoid technology to craft "human" bodies for Rodimus Prime, Arcee, Springer, and Ultra Magnus, then somehow transferred their minds inside them. Drath planned to then destroy the Autobots' now mindless robot bodies, but Old Snake dissuaded him, noting what excellent weapons they would make.

Eventually, the Autobots managed to return to their original Cybertronian bodies and Victor Drath and his gang were arrested. However, Snake managed to escape capture.

After watching Drath and his gang get hauled away, Old Snake walked into the sunset. He mused to himself that "they just don't make terrorists like they used to", and began shouting the old Cobra battlecry to the heavens, perhaps for old times' sake.

He was, unfortunately, cut short by a coughing fit. Only Human

Marvel Comics continuity
Generation 1
On Cobra Island, Cobra Commander berated Zartan for the careless actions of his Dreadnoks, which had revealed Cobra's interest in Power Station Alpha to G.I. Joe, and ordered him to send Zarana to retrieve the uncouth mercenaries. He feared that the incident had left him vulnerable to the manipulations of his would-be usurper, Serpentor. Blood on the Tracks He was right to be concerned, as he was apparently deposed soon after by Serpentor, who took command of Cobra. Power Struggle

Generation 2
After Megatron appeared in Destro's castle (believing it was a Transformer, since it was a shape-shifting building) Unfoldings!, Cobra Commander offered him a deal: a new body in exchange for Cybertronian technology. Realignments Megatron agreed, but Cobra Commander betrayed him, infecting Megatron's rail gun (the new version of his fusion cannon) with a computer virus to disable it. Megatron discovered the virus, removed it and transferred it to the Cybertronian technology he gave to Cobra. Final Transformations However, Cobra Commander didn't know this, and arranged for the Cybertronian tech to be transported back to their HQ. Hot Spot found out about this, and couldn't let the technology fall into Cobra hands, so he attacked the Cobra convoy. Hot Spot succeeded in destroying the truck carrying the Cybertronian tech, but even despite help from Hawk and Snake-Eyes, he had taken heavy damage from Cobra Detonators, so he chose to self-destruct rather than let his body fall into the clutches of Cobra Commander. All or Nothing!

G.I. Joe vs. the Transformers
Following directions from Destro, Cobra Commander and the Baroness unearthed an alien spaceship in 2003, before Cobra had made itself known to the world. Finding the ship full of giant deactivated robots, Cobra Commander ordered his troops to haul the aliens away and re-seal the craft. Cobra's scientists soon managed to reprogram the robots to be under their control, except for the one known as Megatron, who was merely locked into the form of a gun and held at Cobra Commander's side. Cobra revealed themselves to the world some time later, when Cobra Commander led an attack on a peace summit in Washington, D.C. using his new "Battle Android Troopers". G.I. Joe vs. the Transformers issue 1

After the attack, the commander returned to Cobra Island, where he forced Megatron to give him information on energon and noted a breach in Cobra's network security. He also greeted Destro when the arms dealer came to check up on Cobra's progress in reverse-engineering the alien technology. G.I. Joe vs. the Transformers issue 2 Cobra Commander was less than pleased when Destro decided to muscle in on things and take the upcoming attack on the SPS Research Facility into his own hands. He soon had other things to worry about, however, as the Battle Android Troopers broke out of Cobra's reprogramming and the commander found himself face-to-face with a very unhappy Optimus Prime. G.I. Joe vs. the Transformers issue 3

Cobra Commander tried to defend himself using Megatron, who strictly refused to fight unless he was restored to his normal self. Realizing he had no other choice, the commander released Megatron and ran away while the Decepticon clashed with Optimus Prime. He made it to the island's shore, only to have Brawn and Gears blow up his escape ship and attempt to capture him. Luckily, he was saved by Storm Shadow and his S.N.A.K.E. mech. G.I. Joe vs. the Transformers issue 4 The S.N.A.K.E. squad protecting Cobra Commander was then discovered and defeated by a different group of Autobots, forcing him to flee on foot while grumbling that he was going to need a new ninja. G.I. Joe vs. the Transformers issue 5 Eventually, he stumbled across Starscream, immobilized and with a grenade about to detonate in his eye socket. The robot struck a deal with Cobra Commander: If the human removed the grenade, Starscream would in turn take him off the island. The commander accepted his offer, and the two began a grudging partnership as they escaped to Florida. G.I. Joe vs. the Transformers issue 6

Two years later, Cobra Commander had somehow turned this grudging partnership into something more pleasing for himself, as Starscream was now happily following his orders. After learning about the supercomputer Teletran 3 on Cybertron, connected to Earth via a strange wormhole, Cobra Commander figured that the computer's teleportation technology would be invaluable to Cobra. He then traveled to Portugal, where he convinced Destro to provide him with the financial support needed to hack the computer. When Cobra Commander and Destro were overseeing the process in their Boston facility the following day, they came under attack by G.I. Joe, and were suddenly sent to Cybertron when Cobra's wormhole computer malfunctioned. Cobra Commander wasted no time in ordering his troops to kill the Joes and steal Teletran 3, but was interrupted by the arrival of several Autobots and Decepticons. He mostly faded into the background after Perceptor called him imperious and Destro told him to shut up. G.I. Joe vs. the Transformers II issue 1 When the whole affair was over, Cobra Commander argued with Destro some more and noticed that Starscream had fled, but he didn't really care about that. As it turned out, he had lined the jet's hull with plastic explosives, which later blew up as Starscream returned to the current Decepticon leader, Shockwave, killing them both. As a result, Cobra Commander finally brought peace back to Cybertron, a fact which probably would've annoyed the heck out of him if he had been aware. G.I. Joe vs. the Transformers II issue 4

Thanks to Zarana infiltrating Area 52, Cobra Commander learned that US government had used Megatron's remains to create the "Serpent Organic Robot", a biological android imbued with the experience of the world's greatest tacticians and warriors. Cobra Commander naturally wanted Serpent O.R. on his side, and staged a massive attack on Area 52, distracting its defenses with an army of new Battle Android Troopers while he and Zartan sneaked in on a Buzz Boar. After incapacitating Bumblebee, they freed Serpent O.R., only to learn that the android had retained some of Megatron's unpleasant memories of Cobra Commander, and definitely had no intention of being anyone's servant. While the commander had Zartan place a device on Serpent O.R.'s neck, they were quickly knocked out by his tentacles. The Art of War issue 1 After recovering, Cobra Commander cursed the day he found the Transformers, and was about to smash Bumblebee's face in with a lead pipe when G.I. Joe and some Autobots arrived and demanded answers. He briefly explained to them what he had come for, but was interrupted when Serpent O.R. reappeared and attacked everyone. While the Autobots and Joes were busy fighting back, Cobra Commander escaped with Zartan and Zarana. The Art of War issue 2
After returning to the Cobra Terrordrome in Siberia, Cobra Commander worked with Doctor Knox to take control of Serpent O.R. using the device Zartan had planted on him. He happily claimed that with the power of a god, he wouldn't need any of his old underlings. The Art of War issue 4 The perfect chance soon came, as Serpent O.R. defeated Optimus Prime and stole the Matrix of Leadership, transforming himself into the mighty "Serpentor Prime". Possessing the android's body, Cobra Commander killed two of his lieutenants, Razorclaw and Motormaster, while laughing at Serpent O.R. for being willing to give his power up. He soon came under attack by the Autobots and G.I. Joes he had met at Area 52, but took most of them out using Serpent O.R.'s tentacles, all the while bragging that he would conquer everything from the comfort of his lab and only regretting that he couldn't kill Megatron and Starscream personally. However, Arcee managed to rip his chestplate off, allowing Hawk to absorb the power of the Matrix out of him. The power feedback reduced Serpentor Prime to a smoldering wreck and fried Cobra Commander's brain, leaving him an unresponsive vegetable in his control chair on Earth. The Art of War issue 5

In 1938, Cobra Commander learned that an "ultimate weapon" was hidden on the Fera Islands, and ordered Major Bludd to retrieve it. When the major returned with the Matrix of Leadership and a number of Decepticons in tow, Cobra Commander started wearing the relic on his person and allied himself with Megatron, leader of the Decepticons. By the summer of 1939, Cobra and the Decepticons had conquered several European nations, and the commander anticipated that the United States of America would soon make their move. Destro suggested that they withdraw a third of their forces to defend their headquarters on the Fera Islands, but Cobra Commander angrily dismissed his idea, as the US troops didn't even know where Cobra's base was located. The Line

A few hours later, a US strike force airdropped near the Cobra base while Cobra Commander was busy inspecting his jewelry. After verbally assaulting Destro for practically everything he said, the commander dispatched Zartan and a squadron of Rattlers to deal with the attackers. Transformed Shortly afterwards, Megatron that the Decepticon-Cobra allliance was no longer of use to him, and tried to attack Cobra Commander. In response, the commander revealed that he could use the Matrix to harm Megatron, bringing the Decepticon leader to his knees. While he decided to spare Megatron for now, Cobra Commander warned him that if he ever rebelled again, he wouldn't be so lucky. Trial by Fire (issue)

As the enemy troops, now allied with the Autobots, closed in on the Cobra Terrordrome, Cobra Commander ordered Major Bludd to take the civilians and slaves in the area and use them as a human defense line. With the enemy unable to attack innocent people, the commander was free to pick them off using Shockwave's cannon mode. As Shockwave fired on Superion, Cobra Commander held a dramatic speech about how people once saw him as a madman just because he saw his own destiny as future ruler of the world... but now, anyone who stood against him would burn! Trenches

However, despite Cobra Commander's efforts, the enemy continued to advance. His troops were scattered, his slaves were rescued, and Shockwave broke down from overuse. When he tried to get Megatron's help, the Decepticon leader only mocked him. Shortly thereafter, Cobra Commander was caught in a rockslide caused by Bruticus, which crushed his legs. His pleas for help were ignored by Megatron, who instead transformed into gun mode and offered Cobra Commander a quick and easy way to end it all. The commander held Megatron to his head, but ultimately threw him away, unable to kill himself. The gun was quickly picked back up by Baroness, who told Cobra Commander that while he had always loved power, he had never known what to do with it. She then finished the job by executing him. The Iron Fist

Some fifty years later, in 1986, Cobra Commander was back in action. On his base on Cobra Island, he learned that an alien craft had crashlanded near Portland, Oregon, and dispatched a squad to retrieve it for Cobra. Targets of Opportunity

Notes
* Fans have been known to compare Cobra Commander with Starscream. Both were notoriously treacherous. Both had a superior that they wanted to get rid of. And of course, they were both voiced by Chris Latta.
* Following the trend started by Latta, of the four English-speaking actors to have portrayed the various Starscreams in subsequent animation and films, two have also voiced contemporary incarnations of Cobra Commander. Michael Dobson provided the voice of Unicron Trilogy Starscream and Cobra Commander in the Spy Troops and Valor vs Venom movies, while Charlie Adler performed Movieverse Starscream and the Resolute and Renegades versions of Cobra Commander. Whether or not either of these were deliberate instances of duplicating the old Latta formula is unknown, but we're sure Tom Kenny and Steve Blum feel left out. In contrast, there have been quite a few other actors who have voiced Cobra Commander (including Scott McNeil in season 2 of the DiC series and in Sgt. Savage and his Screaming Eagles), but haven't had their turn at Starscream.
* As of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, Snake goes by the code name Old Snake. Spoiler alert: Cobra has a Metal Gear.
* According to Transformers Animated: The AllSpark Almanac II, Cobra Commander became President of the United States at some point. He even got his face on Mount Rushmore.
Transformers: War for Cybertron is a video game developed by High Moon Studios and published by Activision, set before the Transformers take their war to Earth. Hasbro intends it to act as a foundation for Transformers franchise storylines for years to come, and so they've been giving a lot of input and stressing character development. The book Exodus: The Official History of the War for Cybertron serves as a storyline lead-in to the events of the game, which itself in turn sets the stage for the upcoming cartoon series Transformers: Prime.fact

The game itself is an over-the-shoulder third-person shooter in which the player can choose his character from a small roster of either Autobots or Decepticons. The game was released June 22, 2010, for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC; however, the console versions were released at Sears stores on June 17th.

Unlike previous Transformers video games which feature distinctly separate campaigns for the Autobots and the Decepticons (traditionally depicting the playable faction utterly defeating the other), War for Cybertron features a single, linear storyline; the Decepticon campaign occurs chronologically before the Autobot campaign, but fans can play through them in whichever order they prefer.
Decepticon Campaign
*Characters available: Brawl, Barricade, Megatron

It is the waning days of the Great War on Cybertron before the Transformers come to Earth. Megatron, genuinely believing a caste system will bring Cybertron back to its Golden Age, is researching a dangerous power source known as Dark Energon to fuel his conquest of the planet. Megatron discovers that the factory that produces Dark Energon is guarded by a neutral army led by Starscream, and he leads an attack on the station. After his ship crashes into the hull of the station, Megatron, Brawl and Barricade defeat Starscream's army and harness the power of the Dark Energon. Cornered, Starscream tells Megatron that he's the only one who knows how to make more of the energon and that he will help the Decepticon leader if Megatron takes him into his army. Megatron reluctantly agrees to this.
*Boss: Zeta Prime
With his new powers, Megatron takes the fight straight to the Autobot's capital city. While Starscream and Brawl lead the main attack on the city, Megatron takes Soundwave and Breakdown on a flanking attack to recover the Omega Key, which will allow him to access the core of the planet. Arriving at the key's holding place, the Decepticons learn that the Autobot leader Zeta Prime has taken it to keep it safe. The team regroup with Brawl and Starscream, and use Dark Energon bombers to eliminate the remaining Autobots before storming the building in which Zeta Prime is waiting. Megatron defeats the Autobot leader, stealing the Omega Key and punching a hole in his chest. Zeta reveals that the key Megatron has just stolen only activates the real Omega Key, and that soon it will find him. An unknown amount of time later, Megatron is commanding his ship in search of the "Omega Key". The ship is suddenly attacked by Omega Supreme, who shoots them out of the sky, causing them to crash-land in Iacon. Megatron, Soundwave and Breakdown began a desperate retreat from Omega Supreme's attack and take cover in a large tower. Once inside, the group hear Starscream announce that Megatron is dead and that he is taking command of the Decepticons (surprise!). Enraged but unable to make any outside contact, Megatron leads his forces through the city, dodging attacks from Omega Supreme while searching for a way to fight him. Soundwave discovers that they can use some of the Autobot's anti-air and anti-infantry turrets on a tower roof against the massive Autobot. Along the way, the group makes contact with Starscream and corrects his mistake, using him to distract Omega Supreme. Once they reached the turrets, the group manages to shoot down Omega Supreme, causing him to crash to the ground below.
*Boss: Starscream
In a decimated Iacon, the young Autobot messenger Bumblebee is sent to tell the soldier Optimus that Zeta Prime is dead. Optimus decides to take temporary control of the Autobots, adopting Bumblebee into his team. The two of them and Ratchet kick off a counterattack to push out Decepticon forces. They manage to reactivate the planetary guns, clearing the skies over Iacon, and proceed to aid Ironhide in reclaiming the Decagon, tangling with Starscream along the way. Entering the Decagon, Optimus receives a message from Zeta Prime, revealing that he is not yet dead but is being held in a prison in Kaon.

Chapter VII: Kaon Prison Break
*Characters available: Optimus, Sideswipe, Bumblebee
*Boss: Soundwave
Optimus allows his team to be captured by the Decepticons and enter the prison. The three are just barely saved from a firing squad by Air Raid, but as they escape into the tunnels below, Air Raid is captured. The three Autobots sneak through the prison, rescuing Air Raid and releasing all the Autobot prisoners (including Arcee). Using the chaos as a distraction, the trio sneak to the high security bunker Zeta Prime is being held. When the Autobots try to save them, Soundwave attacks, sending out Frenzy, Rumble, and Laserbeak. The Autobots defeat them, but Soundwave manages to retreat. When Optimus tries to rescue Zeta, the Prime tells him that he is already dead and collapses. Optimus returns the body to the council, who tell Optimus that he must accept that he is a Prime and take up his role as leader. Thus, he becomes Optimus Prime.

Chapter VIII: To the Core
*Boss: Corrupted Space Slug
Optimus' first task as Prime is to cure the currently infected core. Heading to the entrance, where Omega Supreme is being held by the Decepticons, the three Autobots manage to free Omega, then call in Ratchet to repair him enough to open the Omega Gate. Thanks to the help of some space slugs, Prime, Warpath, and Ironhide defeat a corrupted space slug and reach the core. However, the core tells Optimus that, in order to repair itself, it will have to shut down for millions of years, forcing Optimus and the Autobots to evacuate Cybertron. Before the core shuts down, it gives Optimus the Matrix of Leadership.

Chapter IX: Aerial Assault
*Characters available: Silverbolt, Air Raid, Jetfire
*Boss: Trypticon
Returning to Iacon, Optimus Prime orders the launching of a full-scale evacuation of Cybertron's surface. However, as the transports leave the atmosphere, Megatron begins shooting them down with his <s>giant purple griffin</s> massive orbital space station. Optimus relizes the need to shut down the station, and sends a group of fliers to shut it down from the inside out. The team manages to blow up the power core, but Megatron taunts them as he activates a back-up generator. Then the station itself begins to mock them. Realizing the station is a Cybertronian, the team flies to find its conversion cog to force it into its robot mode before it can finish leveling Iacon, and Optimus with it. Succeeding, the Autobots race out of the quickly transforming space station as it reveals itself to be Trypticon. The Autobots shoot out the massive Decepticon's jetpack, causing it to hurtle towards the surface of the planet.

Chapter X: One Shall Stand...
*Characters available: Optimus, Bumblebee, Ironhide
*Boss: Trypticon
All seems quiet as Optimus and others search the wreckage, but soon a very much alive and enraged Trypticon emerges to wage a long and difficult battle with the Autobots. After targeting key weaknesses, Optimus uses his axe to knock Trypticon off-balance, sending it plummeting into the liquid below. As the other transports escape the planet's dying surface Optimus shows his team their new ship - an Ark that will allow them to take a piece of Cybertron with them, wherever their adventures may take them...
Multiplayer
The multiplayer options make up a large portion of War for Cybertron's content. Hope you have a Gold account!

Campaign
The single-player campaigns can be played online, with players taking control of the other two allies that are usually just dumb A.I. If other players are participating, a tally of each participants kills is kept. You know, for bragging rights.

Escalation
This cooperative mode puts several friends together against an unending horde of enemies. With each horde vanquished, new areas are opened. Each area contains vending machines that hold weapons, ammo, and permission to access more areas. Characters in Escalation mode are the same as those selected in Campaign; custom multiplayer 'bots are not available here.

Multiplayer
This broad option is where you will be spending most of your hours after you beat Trypticon. Here, players can create their own Cybertronian combatant and pit them against the multitude of online transfans and 12-year-olds that will slaughter you. Custom characters can be leveled up by killing dudes in matches, with specific bonuses being given for specific actions. As they level up, more abilities become available.

;Characters
Characters are created from four different bases, each of which feature different weapons, abilities and alternate forms. They are:
*Scout - Cars. Fast, usually cloakers.
*Scientist - Jets. Also fast, usually medics and buffers.
*Leader - Trucks. Balanced, with emphasis on defense and ally-aid.
*Soldier - Tanks. Slow and powerful, with offensive abilities.

Initially, players are only able to create one of each class, but as they level up, more slots open for a maximum of three of each class. Names can be chosen for each, but don't get too excited about making the Transformer you always dreamed of: bodies are limited to about three options per faction and look exactly like characters from single-player (for example, the Autobot Scout category lets you choose from Bumblebee, Sideswipe or Arcee). You can, however, pick your color scheme. The palettes <i>are</i> rather limited, especially for Decepticons.

;Playlists
Choosing a playlist will automatically send you into a lobby, where the service will do its best to form balanced teams (I.E., you hopefully won't see a team of level 25 leaders fighting one level zero Scout). The service will also select a random stage, which players can veto. Finally, when the game begins, combatants select their character. If your scientist gets butchered too many times, you can pick a different character at any time during the match, and you will switch to it upon dying. Players also cannot pick a faction; the game does it automatically. Weapons can only be picked up from defeated enemies; ammo caches, overshields and energon are scattered throughout the stages.

Playlists include:
*Team deathmatch: Kill 40 opponents to win. Games can range from four to sixteen players.
*Deathmatch: Kill 20 opponents to win. It's a free-for-all.
*Conquest: Defend several "power nodes" until your team gets 400 points.
*Code of power: Capture the flag. Team with highest score after two rounds wins.
*Countdown to extinction: Plant the bomb in the enemy's base three times to win.
*Power struggle: Control the active power node until you get 400 points.

Production
As an early marketing campaign, the game's website included the feature "Operation Transmission Recovery": using transmission and coordinate dials, you could pick up "transmissions" from Cybertron (or "video clips" to you and me).

The art and design team did intense research (i.e. watched the original cartoon, looked at comics, and watched "typical sci-fi cool stuff" like Blade Runner) to work out the aesthetic of Cybertron; lead artist Ivan Power remarked that the original cartoon was the main inspiration, and that Cybertron wasn't shown there so they had to rewatch the same few clips "over and over". While many of the city designs are elaborate and shiny, Decepticon Kaon was deliberately designed to be sharp-edged, rusting, and slapped together to show the Decepticons weren't interested in building a functioning society.

Trophy/Achievement list
When completing various goals and tasks during the campaigns and in online multi-player, the player can earn Trophies on PlayStation 3 and Achievements on the Xbox 360. There are 4 kinds of Trophies: Platinum is the highest, and is only unlocked after earning all the other trophies. It is followed by Gold, which include harder tasks and worth more experience. Then Silver, with less experience than Gold, and finally Bronze which represent easier tasks and worth the least experience. On the Xbox, each achievement has a Gamerscore (G) that adds to the player's total gamerscore, which is essentially the Xbox Live version of "Street Cred".
Demo
On June 10, 2010, a demo for the game was released on Xbox Live Marketplace. The demo is a multiplayer only demo, and only two of the four announced classes, Soldier and Scout, are playable in the demo. Only one "Create a Character" slot is open for each class, but customization for chassis is not available yet. Players can only level up to Level 3 in each class. The only map available is "Molten", and the two gametypes available are Team Deathmatch and Conquest.

Reception
June 2010

The game has received many positive reviews from critics and fans alike. IGN has given the score 9/10 because of its "Great Presentation", "Fun Multiplayer", "Classy Fan Service", but subtracted from its score due to the "Repetitive Visuals". Other scores such as 83 from <i>GameRankings</i>, 77 from Metacritic, 85 from <i>GameInformer</i>, B+ from 1UP.com, and 4 out of 5 stars from <i>GamePro</i>. The lowest, however, is 6.5 from Gamespot, citing the weaknesses: "Lack of visual and gameplay variety in the campaign, Paucity of ammunition, Boss fights are incredibly tedious, Friendly and enemy AI is poor, Transformations are integrated poorly with the core action".

Chapter I: Dark Energon

Chapter II: Fuel of War
*Characters available: Starscream, Thundercracker, Skywarp
*Boss: Cybertron's Sentinal
Megatron sends the seekers to reactivate the ancient Energon Bridge that will produce new Dark Energon. After fighting legions of Autobot defenders, they succeed.

Chapter III: Iacon Destroyed
*Characters available: Megatron, Soundwave, Breakdown
Suddenly a huge ship awakens and takes off.

Chapter IV: Death of Hope
*Characters available: Megatron, Soundwave, Breakdown
*Boss: Omega Supreme (Vehicle mode)

Chapter V: The Final Guardian
*Characters available: Megatron, Soundwave, Breakdown
*Boss: Omega Supreme (Robot mode)
The Decepticons descend into the impact creator to loot Omega's remains, but he transforms into robot mode, unleashing his full barrage on the squad. Megatron manages to corrupt Omega with Dark Energon, using him to reach and corrupt the core of Cybertron with Dark Energon.

Autobot Campaign
Chapter VI: Defend Iacon
*Characters available: Optimus, Bumblebee, Ratchet

*Characters available: Optimus, Ironhide, Warpath

:Stan Bush is a both a real-life musician and a human character from the Generation 1 continuity family.

Stan Bush is an American rock musician, who performed the original songs "Dare" and "The Touch" for The Transformers: The Movie, and subsequently appeared in a music video for the latter song.

"The Touch" is heard twice during the movie, first when Optimus Prime begins his assault on the Decepticons, and again as Hot Rod opens the Matrix. The song was used again during the climactic scene of the cartoon episode "The Return of Optimus Prime, Part 2". "Dare" is also featured twice in the movie: first as Hot Rod and Daniel race back to Autobot City, then when the Autobots crash their ship through Unicron's eye. Both songs appear on The Transformers: The Movie - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack.

Years later, Bush was tapped to write and perform an original song for the Transformers fan convention, BotCon, which was called "Ground Zero".

He was a special guest at 1997, where he performed a live concert with fellow The Transformers: The Movie musical alumnus Vince DiCola for the attendees. An exclusive two-disk CD featuring songs by both Bush and DiCola was available at this same convention. Ten years later he was a guest at 2007, where he performed "'Til All Are One", which was based upon "Ground Zero".

Fiction
Generation 1 cartoon
:Actor: Himself

At an undetermined time period following the creation of the Headmasters and Targetmasters and the seeming defeat of Galvatron and Scorponok, Powermaster Optimus Prime spent a good deal of time relating Transformers stories to the human schoolboy Tommy Kennedy.

After a series of stories wherein he described the events of the battle with Unicron, Optimus Prime had to depart to attend an interstellar peace conference in the midst of a barrage of questions from Tommy. As he was blasting off, Prime declared "But until I return, I leave you with 'The Touch'!"

Following this, the music video for "The Touch" began, although how Tommy was able to view it in the barren wasteland where his meetings with Prime typically took place is unknown. Generation_1_(cartoon)#Season_5

Notes
* Within The Touch music video itself, Stan Bush's guitar is shown to fire lasers via special effects. However, it is possible that Bush's guitar could in fact fire lasers in cartoon continuity. I mean, why not?

* Bush launched a campaign to have "The Touch" included on either Guitar Hero or Rock Band. 1 He recently announced the campaign's success, with "The Touch" hitting Guitar Hero: World Tour as free downloadable content. 2

* As part of the media hype building up to the release of Revenge of the Fallen, Bush released a reworked version of "The Touch" with a more modern, Linkin Park-inspired sound. This is notable because, while completely unsanctioned or unrequested by Hasbro or Dreamworks, it is totally hilarious.

* A special thanks message during Transformers: War for Cybertron's end credits claims that the developers families "rock like Stan Bush", accompanied by Till All Are One. Whether or not said family members possess laser-firing guitars has yet to be determined.

* "'Til All Are One" is featured as the ending credits song in Transformers: War for Cybertron. And thus, the fandom rejoiced.
Short synopsis
The Autobots have found a home in "NEST", a secret military unit created to seek out and eliminate the remaining Decepticons. All is not well, however. Unbeknownst to them, Soundwave is in orbit, coordinating the Decepticon counterstrike. After Ravage steals the Allspark shard from NEST, a team of Constructicons and The Doctor journey to the bottom of the ocean and use it revive Megatron. The Decepticon leader journeys to the crashed Nemesis, rebukes Starscream, and meets with his master, The Fallen.

The Fallen explains that he had constructed a Solar Harvester on Earth, in violation of the Primes' code to never harm an inhabited planet. The Primes turned on him, banished and imprisoned him. However the Harvester still stands, and only one Prime remains. If Megatron destroys Optimus Prime, The Fallen will be freed to activate the Harvester, which will kill off the humans and provide the Decepticons with enough energon to raise an army. Megatron eagerly agrees, and returns to Earth with a vengeance.

It transpires that the location of the Harvester is hidden within Sam Witwicky, who absorbed the knowledge from another Allspark fragment. The Decepticons begin an all-out war across the Earth as they hunt down the human, and the Autobots and NEST are blamed for the ensuing carnage. Witwicky goes to ground, and must turn to unlikely allies in the race to find a solution. Ultimately, the last of the Primes defeats The Fallen, destroys the Harvester, and proves the Transformers' greatest power is found in their unexpectedly-ancient alliance with the humans.
While the Decepticons were disgusted with the pro-Autobot propaganda of Bay's first documentary Transformers Comic issue 13, they're quite optimistic about the second film. Shockingly, even they are under a non-disclosure agreement regarding the script; Starscream fearfully refers to a greater power keeping him quiet. Transformers Comic issue 22 Talking about it could even undermine the Decepticon war effort! Transformers Comic issue 23
In the week leading up to the United States release, while the film had been released in Japan and the United Kingdom, Revenge of the Fallen was ranking 38% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes.com. As American reviews were added into the ranking on June 24, the movie's freshness slipped slowly to 22%. RottenTomatoes.com's consensus was that "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is a noisy, underplotted, and overlong special effects extravaganza that lacks a human touch." Roger Ebert, who gave the movie one star, remarked that "if you want to save yourself the ticket price, go into the kitchen, cue up a male choir singing the music of hell, and get a kid to start banging pots and pans together." Todd Gilchrist of Cinematical.com said Michael Bay "has exceeded even the possibilities of sequel-driven 'moreness,' combining his own muscular, high-gloss sensibility with the conventions of blockbusters past, present, and probably future to create a monolithic action masterpiece that feels destined to be the biggest movie of all time." Michael Phillips from the Chicago Tribune said "the first, comparatively lucid Transformers was a headache, but I sort of enjoyed it....Revenge of the Fallen is more like listening to rocks in a clothes dryer for 2½ hours." Roger Ebert went back for more in a second article, declaring not only that Revenge of the Fallen was awful, but that it'd ruined action films FOREVER.

Despite the overwhelmingly negative reviews, Revenge of the Fallen poised itself quickly as a blockbuster maelstrom. It grossed $16 million in its opening midnight showings alone, an all-time record for Wednesday openings and a second-best for openings on any day of the week behind The Dark Knight. After the full Wednesday was over, Revenge of the Fallen had grossed $55 million in domestic ticket sales, surpassing the previous Wednesday release record, held by Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, by over $10 million.
Trivia
*The official title of the film is Revenge of the Fallen (with a lower-case "t" in "the") even though it is apparently referring to The Fallen (with a capital "T" in "The").
*During the scenes set in and around the deli in NYC, posters for the bands Catch Twenty-Two and Voodoo Glow Skulls are prominently featured.
*Mudflap and Skids are voiced by seasoned mecha and sci-fi voice actors in the Japanese dub: Katsuyuki Konishi and Tomokazu Seki respectively. They are known for their roles as hot blooded pilots such as Kamina from Gurren Lagann and Domon Kasshu from G Gundam, (with Konishi also having previously voiced characters in Super Link).

Transformers references
* The whole concept of "Transformers disguised as a human" used for Alice is inspired by the Pretenders. Roberto Orci even used the term "Pretenter" during an interview before the movie release. However, a Transformer with an "organic" alt-mode instead of an external shell is a concept that reminds more of the Beast Era.
* In an interview with Sci Fi Wire on March 31st, Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman said they had looked through the comics and cartoons for the "most elemental bad guy" that "jumped off the material" and found that in the Fallen. They also stated that due to production necessities (Hasbro and Bay needing characters for scenes and design to begin as soon as possible) and the 2008-2009 Writers Strike, some characters were in their initial treatment while others were designed specifically for the movie production, and that due to the overall numbers of robots, the audience would not get to know all of the Transformers closely. Indeed, Orci and Kurtzman referred to some characters via descriptors such "Volt" (Jolt) and "Wheelbot" (Demolishor). They also confirmed that Nimoy was open to playing the Fallen if the role was offered, and that they were in the middle of hashing it out with Frank Welker over a role in the movie, but the final decision was down to Bay.
* In a June 22nd article in Forbes (released online on June 4th), Michael Bay talked about his philosphy in movie-making, his demand of part-ownership of movies he makes, and the revelation that he receives an 8% cut of all toy sales from the Transformers movies.
Additionally, Bay claimed the only truth about the film was Sam going to college. Curiously, on August 5th 2008, after a fan posted on Michael Bay's forum pointing out the contradiction, all references to the Fallen were removed from the aforementioned interviews, as well as any references to IDW Publishing having the script.
* Empire magazine's February 2009 issue features information on the role of the Egyptian Pyramids in the Movieverse's backstory. * On March 6, due to the reports of Weaving's return, Michael Bay finally admitted Megatron was back, but claimed that Megatron would only appear briefly in a flashback to the past, despite the fact Megatron can be seen pinning Sam Witwicky to the ground in Revenge's tv spot and teaser trailer. One can assume that the director was trying to salvage some form of audience surprise in seeing Megatron return in the movie. *Bumblebee picks up Sam at a frat party in the evening. He then takes him to a graveyard where it's daytime.
*Wheelie disappeared inexplicably in the third act. What the hell, man?
**Similarly Jetfire vanishes around the same time Wheelie does. But unlike Wheelie, he actually comes back.
*Mudflap and Skids are not seen again after facing off against Devastator.
*When Jetfire is activated at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum (actually the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center, an annex of the Smithsonian) in Washington, he leaves the exhibition center and exits into the desert location of the 309th Aerospace Maintenance and Regeneration Group (aka The Boneyard), which is in Tuscon, Arizona. When Jetfire breaks out of the building, we can see a composited image of the Boneyard's rows of planes, so it's arguable that in this universe the middle of Washington DC happens to be a desert full of old planes, and no buildings and uh... heh heh. Given that this and the Transformers are the only changes between this universe and ours, that's a stretch.
