Terrorsaur
:Terrorsaur is a Predacon from the Beast Wars portion of the Generation 1 continuity family.
Power-hungry and opportunistic, but lacking in the courage department, Terrorsaur never misses a chance to improve his standing within the Predacons. From cutting deals with Maximals to finding and keeping new power sources for himself, Terrorsaur is always thinking two steps ahead. Unfortunately, the big guns of the Beast Wars are usually thinking at least four steps ahead, and Terrorsaur always ends up on the short end.

As the only fliers in the Predacon platoon, Terrorsaur and Waspinator are permanent partners. The two seem to get on, working as a somewhat formidable team and sometimes having banter about their mission.
First wave toy bios
Megatron personally supervised Terrorsaur's genetically engineered creation, resulting in a stealth fighter who remains hidden until the opportunity to strike arises! Terrorsaur is nothing short of absolutely terrifying, having been compared to a demonic dragon. On top of it all, he is an absolute glutton, devouring entire flocks of birds by simply flying mouth-opened through their flight formations. #Toys

While the Predacon Megatron stole the Maximal relic, the Golden Disk, the Predacon who would later call himself Terrorsaur, along with the future Waspinator and Buzzbomb, secured a getaway ship. They were meant to be working for Cryotek—however, Megatron had his own agenda that "Terrorsaur" was in on and Buzzbomb wasn't. True to form, "Terrorsaur" shot Buzzbomb in the back. Theft of the Golden Disk

"Terrorsaur" and "Waspinator" stole the Predacon gang's ship. The two had a contest to decide who would get to name the ship, and "Terrorsaur" won. He settled on Darksyde, though Megatron agreed that the loser's suggested name, Buzzerbot, would have been more desirable.

Picking up the rest of their group, with the Golden Disk in tow, they left Cybertron's orbit. After a space battle with the Axalon, the Chromia 10, and an unidentified Predacon ship, both the Axalon and the Darksyde entered a transwarp portal to an undisclosed time and place. Dawn of Future's Past
Terrorsaur was one of the original members of Megatron's crew. After the Darksyde crashed on a mysterious planet, he picked a Pteranodon for his beast mode, and the Predacons began searching for the Maximals. Terrorsaur took part in the first battle, until the Maximals retreated and the Predacons started suffering from Energon buildup. Beast Wars (Part 1) The Predacons followed the Maximals to their base and attacked Optimus Primal and Dinobot as the two battled on a natural rock bridge. When the attack failed to eliminate any Maximals, Megatron thumped Terrorsaur out of frustration. The uncovering of a large cache of Energon gave the Predacons a new mission, and Waspinator and Terrorsaur attempted to slow the Maximals down so that the Predacons could get there first. They were seen off by one of Primal's missiles, but rejoined the other Predacons and took part in the battle atop the mountain of energon. Beast Wars (Part 2)

Much later, Terrorsaur and Scorponok were assigned to install a mega-cannon as part of the defences for the Predacon base. The Web When an energon accident caused Cheetor to be teleported into the Predacon base, Terrorsaur gave him a warm welcome. Cheetor managed to throw him through the teleport to the Axalon, where he attempted to talk Dinobot into teaming up with him to defeat both sides. Dinobot went along with him long enough to get information, and then stuffed him into a waste disposal unit. Terrorsaur returned to the Predacon base, where he and Megatron cornered Cheetor, only to discover that the Maximals had sent a bomb through the teleport. Once Cheetor detached the bomb from the console, Terrorsaur flew it into the sky and was blown up for his troubles. Equal Measures

During a battle at the Standing Stones, Terrorsaur blew up the pile of energon in the center, earning Megatron's ire at the loss. Whatever punishment he got wasn't enough to prevent him from taking part in a subsequent attack on the Axalon. He was able to bring the ship's shields down, but Rattrap managed to raise the shields again, as well as blasting Terrorsaur out of the air. He was still able to attempt to stop the Maximals retrieving Primal from an alien probe, but the Maximals ultimately succeeded, and the Maximal leader chased off the Predacons. Chain of Command

Terrorsaur's shining moment came when he discovered a flying mountain with a huge source of powerful energon at the top. Powered-up, he immediately returned to the Darksyde and defeated Megatron, declaring himself the new leader of the Predacons. Having exhausted his charge, Terrorsaur left Tarantulas in charge and went to refuel at the mountain. (None of the other Predacons paid attention to any of the commands Terrorsaur had made) Unfortunately for him, Optimus Primal and Rattrap had already found the mountain. While he was able to defeat Primal, Rattrap had set up charges, and Terrorsaur was forced to flee. When he returned to the Predacon base, he discovered that Megatron had been repaired in his absence and was very, very angry. Power Surge

When a Maximal stasis pod crashed, Waspinator and Terrorsaur ambushed Optimus Primal outside the Maximal base, taking the Maximals' only flier out of the game. After reporting back to Megatron, the pair were dispatched to reach the pod first and ensure the protoform inside became another Predacon. On the way, Terrorsaur and Waspinator encountered the Maximals, going by ground, and delayed them by knocking out an ice bridge. The two Predacons reached the pod first, but a transmission sent by Primal and Dinobot had already activated the protoform, and they were attacked by Tigatron. Fallen Comrades Sent out to eliminate Rattrap, Terrorsaur instead teamed up with the Maximal and again overthrew Megatron. After having Rattrap and Megatron both locked up, Terrorsaur found himself at a loss when the Maximals attacked and the other Predacons looked to him for leadership. Megatron, having freed himself, deferred leadership until it was made plain that Terrorsaur was incompetent as leader. Double Jeopardy

Terrorsaur was subsequently assigned with Waspinator and Blackarachnia to dig under the Maximal base so that they could use a sonic emitter to break in. Unfortunately, Waspinator alerted the Maximals to their presence, and while the trio were arguing over when to set the device off, Tigatron stole it. As they attempted to get it back, Tigatron triggered the emitter, and the three Predacons fled before it went off. A Better Mousetrap After Scorponok's Cyberbee turned Primal into a berserker and he invaded the Darksyde, Terrorsaur and Blackarachnia attempted to keep the other Maximals out of the Predacon base. There were unable to stop Cheetor from slipping inside to rescue Optimus. Gorilla Warfare

When Scorponok spotted the Maximals building a communications array, he passed footage of the device to Terrorsaur, who flew it back to Megatron. The Predacons quickly discovered the tower was meant to communicate with a Maximal temporal probe which was passing through the system. Terrorsaur successfully distracted the Maximals at the array long enough for the other Predacons to sneak up from the other direction. The Probe Terrorsaur took part in a mock rebellion after the Predacons discovered they'd been bugged. After making the Maximals believe they'd been destroyed, the Predacons hid until the Axalon was made operational, intending to take the ship themselves. When their hiding place was discovered by Dinobot, Terrorsaur and Waspinator were the first to pursue their former comrade, only to be squashed by a large rock. Terrorsaur still recovered in time to rejoin the fight outside the Axalon, managing to shoot down a distracted Optimus Primal before Cheetor blasted him out of the sky. Victory (episode)

After Rhinox was turned into a Predacon by Megatron's Transmuter, Terrorsaur realised that Rhinox was actually working to undermine Megatron's leadership. Terrorsaur suggested teaming up to overthrow the Predacon commander, but was somewhat roughly turned down. Once Megatron discovered Rhinox's deception, the former Maximal was able to reveal Terrorsaur's duplicity, and an outraged Scorponok attacked Terrorsaur, until the both of them were pounded by Rhinox. After the whole sorry affair was over, Terrorsaur attempted to explain to his less-than-receptive leader. Dark Designs (episode)

Terrorsaur helped out Dinobot one time, when Dinobot was complaining of being bored. Terrorsaur lured him into a cave and trapped him there, so that Megatron could put into effect a plan involving a clone of Dinobot. Double Dinobot After another stasis pod crashed, Terrorsaur and Waspinator arrived to face Cheetor. Although Waspinator was quickly defeated, Terrorsaur blasted Cheetor and proceeded to the pod, only to encounter the newly awakened Airazor, who blasted him to pieces. The Spark

Waspinator and Terrorsaur attacked Tigatron while the Maximal was trying to radio base. The pair pursued Tigatron into a cloud, only to be blasted by some sort of flying island, and subsequently reported back to Megatron. The Trigger, Part 1 After repairs were made, the two fliers started back for the island, only to tangle with Rattrap and Optimus Primal. Terrorsaur found himself acting as Rattrap's transport, temporarily at least. He and Waspinator later attempted to catch up with Blackarachnia on the island, but she tricked them into firing, so that the island's defences took them out. The Trigger, Part 2

During a Predacon attack on the Axalon, Terrorsaur and Waspinator stole the rectifier coil from the Maximal base. When remaining in their beast modes drove the sleep deprived Maximals to be overcome by their beast instincts, the Predacons hunted them through the jungle, at least until the Maximals were able to regain control and fight back. Call of the Wild After some of the Maximals were blinded by an energon explosion, Terrorsaur and Waspinator were dispatched to try to finish them off. Unfortunately, even blinded, the Maximals were able to fight them off. Dark Voyage

After Waspinator was possessed by the spark of Starscream, the Predacons attacked the Axalon. Terrorsaur attempted to stop Primal escaping, only to get a face full of monkey fist. When Starscream was subsequently given command of the Maximal ship, Terrorsaur complained about the Decepticon getting promoted, but was swiftly silenced by Megatron. Possession Later, Terrorsaur was among the Predacons blasted into a tree by Rhinox's almighty fart. The Low Road On another mission, Terrorsaur was given leadership of Waspinator and Inferno. Partway through the battle, Terrorsaur realised that Waspinator wasn't doing anything—as it turned out, he was still awaiting Terrorsaur's signal to attack. Later, the trio successfully defeated Dinobot, but their victory was short-lived, as Optimus turned up and blew Terrorsaur and Waspinator away. Law of the Jungle

During a rare truce between the two sides, Terrorsaur found Tigatron snooping around the Predacon base and sounded the alarm. He and Scorponok collided while trying to prevent the Maximal's escape and were sent out to try to get Tigatron back. The Maximals employed "non-violent" means to aid in Tigatron's escape, and Terrorsaur found himself running into a piece of bulkhead. He then attempted to charge Rattrap, only to be sat on by Rhinox. He returned to base by stretcher. Before the Storm

Terrorsaur was one of the Predacons who turned up at the alien bungalow. He was blasted by Rattrap and left lying over a rock as the construct blasted a signal into space, exposing one of the moons as a Planet Buster weapon. Other Voices, Part 1 A short time later, he was back at the Predacon base, able to monitor the escalating situation. Megatron's admiration for the aliens surprised him, and he pointed out loudly that the aliens were trying to kill them. As it turned out, Megatron had matters in hand, and the alien weapon was soon destroyed. Other Voices, Part 2 The weapon's explosion sent out a quantum surge, which began mutating the forms of some of the Transformers. Both Terrorsaur and Scorponok lost control of their hover platforms, colliding with each other and plunging into the lava below. No one seemed to notice or care. Aftermath
Having survived the quantum surge, Terrorsaur was upgraded into a Transmetal. However, these days were short-lived. After recovering the mindless body of Optimus Primal, Megatron attempted to turn it into a Predacon slave. Rhinox was able to return Primal's spark to its body just in the nick of time. Now a Transmetal himself, Optimus Primal proceeded to go on a rampage, taking out all of Megatron's drone forces and slicing Terrorsaur in half with his mace. : This mold was later used for Fractyl, Hydra, Lazorbeak and Dinobots Terranotron.
In robot mode, its wing-tips detach to form blade weapons. In Japan, this mold featured green vacuum-metalized paint rather than yellow, added silver detail added to his face, and had the words Destron replace his tampo-graphed name.
: This mold was later redecoed and slightly retooled to make Beast Machines Terranotron, and then redecoed and retooled differently to make Armada Terrorsaur. ==Notes==
* Similarly to Waspinator, his fellow Predacon flyer, the toyline profile for Terrorsaur made him out to be a formidable and vicious fighter- almost animalistic in his savagery. His transmetal profile adds pyromania to the list.

* Terrorsaur apparently knows how to disarm a bomb (if he has enough time), since in "Equal Measures" Megatron orders him to disarm the Maximal bomb that was sent into the Predacon base.

* As Terrorsaur was dying in lava, his hand was briefly seen glowing, indicating that Terrorsaur was going through transmetalization. This was probably included as a "Trap Door" so the writers could resurrect Terrorsaur or Scorponok if they needed them later.

*Terrorsaur's hand sinking into the lava is similar to the scene at the end of Terminator 2: Judgment Day, when the Terminator sank into the molten steel.

* Terrorsaur's CGI model in "Theft of the Golden Disk" is based on Energon Skyblast with a new head design. However, his CGI model is slightly different from his appearance in "Dawn of Future's Past".

*Terrorsaur is the first known contributor to the plight of the Bald Eagle, by eating one.
Synopsis
A violent storm rages, causing significant damage and knocking out power to both the Maximal and Predacon bases. While the Maximals stash their extra ammo deeper in their ship's hold to prevent undue accidents, Waspinator attempts to get one of the Predacon base's computer consoles online...only to be greeted by a ghostly, shrill voice from it. A power surge hits the bug-bot soon afterwards, and when the other Preds begin to wonder what has happened to him, in he comes, announcing his return "at long last" in the same eerie voice.

The voice belongs to Starscream, Air Commander of the Decepticon forces and second-in-command to the original Megatron, whose spark had been tumbling through time and space for an unknown number of years before settling within Waspinator. As he puts it, he was destroyed defending Galvatron from the Chaos Bringer Unicron, but his spark endured. As a show of his good faith, he pledges his loyalty to the Predacon Megatron, revealing vital information about the state of the Maximal base due to the storm, intelligence Megatron could use to plan a sneak attack. Intrigued by the idea, Megatron accepts Starscream into his ranks, but warns Scorponok in private to watch their new ally closely.

The next day, as the Maximals are making repairs to their base, they are suddenly attacked by the Preds, and Starscream's intel proves very useful in catching them off-guard. In the ensuing firefight, Dinobot is injured and the Decepticon Air Commander flies rings round Optimus, forcing the Maximals to abandon ship and regroup outside. Happy with their victory, Megatron puts Starscream in charge of holding the Axalon, with Scorponok and Blackarachnia under his command, while the rest of the Preds return to their base, in case the Maximals decide to go for a sneak attack of their own. Once they're alone, though, Blackarachnia shows off her knack for history by correctly pointing out to Starscream that he was murdered by Galvatron (the Unicron-reborn Megatron) after he betrayed the Decepticon commander. She's willing to keep this a secret, though, if she's let in on his real plans: to destabilize Megatron's control and rule both factions.

Deep in the forest, as the Maximals recover, Optimus voices his confusion and concern over Waspinator's new personality. He isn't entirely convinced Waspinator is possessed by the spark of Starscream, but as the Maximal Elders had long since sealed the Decepticon's records, they're not able to confirm or deny it, either. Fortunately, Dinobot's as much of a military history buff as Blackarachnia is, commenting on how Webster's Cybertronian Dictionary has pretty much replaced all definitions of "traitor" with Starscream's name. Are you pondering what I'm pondering, Optimus?

He is. Returning to the Axalon, the Maximals call Starscream out to announce their surrender, citing the need to use the ship's CR Chamber to repair Dinobot's (now exaggerated) wounds. Feeling generous, the Decepticon Air Commander allows Optimus and Dinobot to come on board, but as predictably as night follows day, betrays them and strips Optimus of his weapons and locks him up in the hold as soon as he steps on deck. With their leader now his prisoner, Starscream orders the other Maximals to attack the Predacon base, over the token objections of Scorponok. They comply, and the trap is set.

Unbeknown to the Air Commander, he's been duped by the oldest trick in the book; by allowing himself to be betrayed, Optimus has put himself and Dinobot in the perfect position to retake their base, which they do in a dazzling display that forces Starscream to retreat back to Pred territory. Optimus pursues and manages to best the Decepticon in an aerial dogfight, leaving him grovelling at the Maximal's feet...until Blackarachnia shows up, prompting Starscream to plead for her aid, believing they can still complete their coup. No dice; this new generation is much less gullible than their ancestors, and Blackarachnia has skillfully pulled off a double-cross on the double-crosser, igniting a small energon cache underneath Starscream to "exorcise" the Decepticon's spark from Waspinator's body.

At the end of the day, Megatron gets done fixing the back-to-normal Waspinator as Blackarachnia explains her betrayal; if she hadn't done it, she maintains, she wouldn't have been able to sniff out Starscream's true motives. Megatron reluctantly accepts this excuse, but warns her that it still doesn't invoke confidence in her loyalties. Back at the Axalon, the Maximals are finishing up repairs of their own...everyone but Cheetor, who's slacking off with a bout of stargazing, quipping "Twinkle, twinkle, little Starscream," as the camera pans up to beyond the planet's orbit, showing Starscream's spark screaming mech fluid-drenched vengeance on all within the Beast Wars as he drifts away into the void.
Notes
Animation and/or technical glitches
* When Megatron "checks up" on Waspinator, his dino head inexplicably switches from his right hand to his left hand.

* Unicron's "ring" is not connected to his body.

* When Starscream points to the unguarded side of the Axalon, he seems to have a finger pointing on both sides of his hand, as though the animators were unsure of which hand he was using to point at the screen. (From the looks of the previous scenes, it should be his left hand.)

* When Starscream/Waspinator is standing on top of the Axalon and instructing the Maximals to attack the Predacon base, his right foot clips straight through one of the autocannons.

* When the Maximals come to "surrender", as Optimus talks to Starscream, his head is hideously deformed, with the sides stretched down to the base of his neck, and his head sitting far too high. Additionally his mouth doesn't move while he's speaking. Argh...

Continuity errors
* Looking at the intro sequence with Starscream's spark, he clearly touches down somewhere in the southwest United States, apparently Arizona. The terrain and creatures in Beast Wars clearly suggest that it takes place in Africa. On the other hand, it makes sense, since "The Agenda (Part III)" puts the Axalon and the Ark within commuting distance. It's not too wild to assume that it kept commuting for an unknown distance even after touching down either.

* While free-floating sparks are usually depicted as spheres, Starscream's spark has the twiddly bits which are usually only present to attach a spark to a protoform. Then again, it has been stated that Starscream's spark is not normal, so this may have been a conscious alteration?

* Megatron knew a great deal about Cybertronian history, yet apparently did not know the real nature of Starscream and his demise. However, Megatron might have been playing dumb to lure Starscream into being bolder with his actions. On the other hand, both the Predacon and Maximal Elders had a large portion of his records sealed due to his history. Then again, Megatron DID tell Scorponok to watch Starscream...

* Despite being born from a Maximal Protoform, Blackarachnia refers to the Decepticons as "our" (the Predacons') ancestors.

* Inferno is absent for the entire episode.

* Starscream apparently imprisons Optimus in shackles that he can break out of in about five seconds flat. However, in the episode commentary on Madman Entertainment's Beast Wars Season 1 DVDs, story editor Bob Forward states that Primal originally had a very complex way of breaking free involving tools and the dexterity of his beast mode appendages, but the animators changed this to just him "busting out", possibly due to time and monetary constraints.

Transformers references
* Obviously, Starscream himself firmly ties Beast Wars to established Generation 1 history, though you could argue that Waspinator thinking he was Shrapnel already did this.

* Starscream's spark—or "ghost", as it was then called—possesses several Decepticons (including Cyclonus, Scourge, Astrotrain, and Trypticon) in the Generation 1 episodes "Starscream's Ghost" and "Ghost in the Machine". And, much to our chagrin, he doesn't stop there.

* One of the Predacon insignias on the side of Waspinator's cranium changes into a Decepticon insignia while Starscream's spark is inhabiting his superstructure.

* And of course, Starscream's fate was from The Transformers: The Movie.

* Starscream's head is white and his face is blue, making him resemble his appearance in Marvel Comics instead of his cartoon character model.

Real-world references
* Optimus Primal says "Hasta la vista, Starscream", paraphrasing a famous line from the film "Terminator 2: Judgment Day".

* As he flies away immediately after saying this, Optimus Primal is seen wearing a pair of sunglasses, aping (ahem) Arnold Schwarzenegger's trademark look from the movie.

* Rhinox's line "It's tramplin' time" could be an homage to "It's clobberin' time!", the catchphrase of the Thing of the Fantastic Four.

Trivia
* Doug Parker performs both Starscream (standing in for the late Chris Latta), and the very Starscreamy Terrorsaur. In fact, Parker's Starscream is basically Terrosaur with a metallic distortion a la G1 Soundwave. Perhaps Starscream should have possessed Terrorsaur instead — of course, nobody would notice the difference.
* According to fan consultant Ben Yee and story editor Bob Forward on the Madman DVD commentary track, the original idea for this episode was to have the spark of an Autobot possess one of the characters. This idea was abandoned early on because a model of Starscream had already been made for "The Web". Besides, Starscream had the experience.
* Also according to Forward, the angles used for Waspinator (when he is possessed by Starscream) are much more "heroic" than normal (views from slightly below him, extreme closeups, etc.), to reflect Starscream's personality.
* Apart from the Decepticon insignia on his head, Waspinator's only physical change when possessed is the addition of a yellow stripe along the upper edges of his "mandibles", similar to their inner edges.
* Additionally, Yee provided all of the original Starscream's tech spec biographies to writer Ian Weir as a reference for Starscream's character and personality. Yee was pleased that Weir incorporated Starscream's original "Air Commander" function as the character's rank and title.
:Fireflight is an Autobot from the Generation 1 continuity family.

Fireflight combines a childlike sense of wonder with the soul of a daydreamer, resulting, unfortunately, in one major menace to airborne navigation. Near collisions and crashes come fast and frequent when he's around. If Aerialbots had to be certified to take to the air he'd have been grounded for life long ago. Fireflight means well and has a good heart, he just can't help losing himself in the beauty of the world when seen from the sky. It's hard for his teammates to get too mad at someone so filled with wonder and innocence, but at the same time it's also hard to fly next to someone who's never paying any attention to where he's going.

Fireflight combines with his fellow Aerialbots to form Superion.
The Transformers cartoon
:Voice actor: Jeff MacKay (English), Yoku Shioya (Japanese)

At one point during the eternal war with the Autobots on Earth, Megatron grew fed up with how his opponents ruled the roads and created a group of Decepticon cars known as the Stunticons. In order to give his new warriors life, he brought them to Cybertron and tracked down the ancient supercomputer, Vector Sigma, to input cybernetic personalities into the Stunticons. Thanks to a series of traps and drones in their way, the Autobots failed to prevent Megatron from succeeding and returning to Earth. Seeking to even the playing field, Optimus Prime conceived of the idea of retrofitting several broken-down Cybertronian ships into Earthen jets, and bringing them to life as a team of Autobot flyers. With the help of his tech-savvy soldiers, Hoist, Wheeljack, Ratchet, and Prime's own creator, Alpha Trion, Optimus's plan was enacted and the Aerialbots were born. The Key to Vector Sigma, Part 2

Fireflight's spacey demeanor got his partners in trouble from time to time. As the Aerialbots were searching the Middle East for a squadron of stolen jets, Slingshot and Skydive found the jets being reprogrammed by Megatron and the Decepticons as a remote-controlled air force. The two Aerialbots summoned their fellow flyers, but while Silverbolt and Air Raid turned up quickly, Fireflight was lost out somewhere in the sands for a good portion of the battle with the Giant Purple Griffin, leaving his teammates vulnerable and unable to combine and form Superion. Only after he finally got his head together and followed up on Skydive's signal did the Aerialbots manage to gain the upper hand. Aerial Assault

War Dawn
Cosmic Rust (episode)

After the death of Megatron and the retaking of Cybertron, Fireflight and the Aerialbots became part of the Autobot Fleet. When Ultra Magnus, Kup and Spike were kidnapped to Quintessa, the rescue party alerted the Aerialbots to swoop by for covering fire and pick-up. Five Faces of Darkness, Part 2 When the Quintessons destroyed their own planet to get at the Autobots, the resulting blast wave destroyed the Aerialbots' ship, sending Fireflight and the rest hurtling through space. Although they clearly survived, Skydive, Fireflight and Slingshot were not seen after the explosion. They eventually impacted on Goo #8739B, and were rescued by Wreck-Gar and the Junkions. Five Faces of Darkness, Part 3

Before long, history repeated itself (literally) as Fireflight and the Aerialbots had another time travel adventure involving Alpha Trion, only this time it involved the ancient Autobot himself traveling into the present from the past, back from when he was merely A3. The Quintessons were experimenting with Time Window technology when Perceptor and a group of Autobots came across their work. Summoned for reinforcements, Rodimus Prime arrived with Superion and the other Autobots to drive the Quintessons off the asteroid. As the time window was left open, a robot named A3 materialized on the asteroid. It wasn't until after the Quintessons convinced the Autobots that the window needed to be closed for the sake of the universe, and A3 returned to his own time, that Fireflight and the Aerialbots realized they had once again been in the presence of "the father of the Autobots". Forever Is a Long Time Coming

Once, Air Raid led the Decepticon duo of Scourge and Cyclonus into an asteroid field where Fireflight and his fellow Aerialbots were waiting to spring an ambush. The Aerialbots messed the Decepticons up pretty badly, especially after they transformed into Superion. Eventually, Fireflight and the others chased the Decepticons through a strange warp in space. This proceeded to have no consequences for anyone whatsoever. Fight or Flee

Fireflight and the Aerialbots were spending a relaxing day watching home movies on Teletraan II when things suddenly got serious, as the Autobots' computer off-handedly informed them Trypticon was never destroyed in his last battle with Metroplex. When they tracked Trypticon to his new staging grounds, Fireflight and the Aerialbots launched from Broadside, but the Decepticon presence in Carbombya was more than they had anticipated. The Aerialbots made a hasty retreat when confronted with overwhelming firepower, but soon returned with reinforcements and drove the Decepticons from Carbombya. Thief in the Night

During a battle in space, Fireflight and the Aerialbots may or may not have been present. Superion, at least, was surely there on the planet Eurythma...sometimes. Carnage in C-Minor

After Sky Lynx took some hostile fire over the planet of Junk, Rodimus Prime dispatched Fireflight and the Aerialbots to investigate. They were caught in a crossfire between the brain-addled Junkions and the Quintessons, who were responsible for messing with the Junkions' air waves, and their minds. Even after becoming Superion, the Aerialbots took heavy fire and had to be brought back to First Aid on Cybertron for repairs. The Big Broadcast of 2006 (episode) Later, Fireflight and the Aerialbots were working with Rodimus Prime and Ultra Magnus in Europe to fend off the latest wave of Decepticon attacks. When Trypticon arrived, they played the bi-planes to his King Kong. The Ultimate Weapon

During the Decepticon invasion of Japan, the Aerialbots fought against Astrotrain when he tried to derail a bullet train full of passengers. The Burden Hardest to Bear Sometime thereafter, Fireflight and the Aerialbots were recruited by Rodimus Prime to rescue the body of Optimus Prime from Swofford and Morgan. Unfortunately, this only meant they were among the first Autobots exposed to the Hate Plague. Despite the madness induced by the red dust, the Aerialbots were apparently still willing to form Superion. Superion ran amok, causing serious property damage, infecting Defensor, and taking several other Autobots out of action. The Return of Optimus Prime, Part 1

When the Decepticons invaded Cybertron searching for the Plasma Energy Chamber, the Aerialbots tried to stop them. Unfortunately, they didn't reckon with Sixshot. Fireflight was knocked out of the sky when Sixshot turned into a winged wolf and tore his wings right off. The Rebirth, Part 1 The Combaticons then took his power pack to use as fuel for the giant rocket engine they were constructing for Galvatron. The Rebirth, Part 3

Fight! Super Robot Lifeform Transformers comic
When the Protectobots confronted Menasor at a baseball stadium, Fireflight and the Aerialbots arrived as back-up. They formed Superion to engage Menasor and Bruticus. After Defensor was injured, Superion targeted the Decepticon combiners' legs, shaking them loose and giving the smaller Protectobots a chance to link up with the Decepticon gestalts and override control of their bodies. Fight! Super Robot Lifeform Transformers issue 5 After the Autobots discovered a utopia island paradise, it was besieged by Megatron and the Constructicons, who wanted to build an impregnable fortress. Kenji radioed for help, and Optimus Prime sent Fireflight and the Aerialbots to the rescue. As Superion they fought off Devastator and Trypticon using their smarts to outthink the evil warriors. Fight! Super Robot Lifeform Transformers issue 6

Scramble City cartoon
Fireflight and the Aerialbots were dispatched from the Scramble City project by Ultra Magnus to aid Optimus Prime in battle with the Seekers and Devastator. Their aerial firepower frankly overwhelmed the marauding Decepticons, and sent them home with their transistors between their struts. On his second attempt, Megatron sent the Stunticons, who were considerably more successful in engaging the Autobots. Damaged in jet modes, Fireflight and the Aerialbots chose instead to merge and form Superion. As Superion, they possessed scramble combining abilities, but so did the Stunticons when they formed Menasor. The Aerialbots were in the midst of reconfiguring their limb formation when Fireflight, being...well, a daydreaming idiot, mixed up whether he was supposed to be the right leg or the left. His indecision gave Menasor time to shoot him down, and Wildrider assumed the place of Superion's right leg instead, corrupting his programming. Abashed by his boner, Fireflight teamed up with Optimus Prime to assault Menasor, and retook his place as Superion's limb. Scramble City: Mobilization

The Great Transformer War comic
In 2010, Galvatron kidnapped Doctor Dalton of Eran to utilize his skills and improve the Decepticons' combiner technology. Fireflight and the Aerialbots joined the Protectobots in assaulting Trypticon, in hopes of rescuing the hostage scientist. Fireflight and his team formed Superion for a first strike, but the Decepticon combiners countered with their deployment modes, launching the Stunticon and Combaticon troops with enough force to tear Superion apart. The Protectobots stood guard over Hot Spot as he performed battlefield triage on the Aerialbots in his repair bay mode, bringing them back on-line. Silverbolt then transformed into launcher mode and unleashed Fireflight and the Aerialbots in their own scramble attack, blinding Menasor and Bruticus long enough for the Autobots to escape safely with Dalton. The Great Transformer War issue 1

The Headmasters cartoon
Fireflight and the Aerialbots were stationed at Autobot City on Earth in 2011. When Galvatron attacked Cybertron via the old Space Bridge network, the Aerialbots were summoned to Cybertron as reinforcements. They soon arrived with the Trainbots and quickly joined the battle. Fireflight and his team formed Superion and battled Abominus and Devastator. Four Warriors Come out of the Sky Later, the combined Aerialbots fought alongside Raiden and Defensor against the Decepticon combiners, and were nearly crushed when Bruticus collapsed a building on their position. They were bailed out by the arrival of the Battleship Maximus. When Hot Rod began his search for the Matrix of Leadership on Earth, Fireflight and the Aerialbots returned to the humans' planet to assist him. They confronted the Stunticons in the desert, pitting Superion against Menasor yet again. The battle was so fierce it eventually carried them to the Arctic where Hot Rod was searching. The Mystery of Planet Master

Fireflight and his flying comrades joined the Triple Changers in distracting the Decepticons long enough for Twincast to sneak inside Trypticon and gather data on the Madmachine. The Great Cassette Operation Sometime later, Fireflight and the Aerialbots were on a research vessel that passed near a strange meteorite. The meteorite had been altered by Galvatron to produce gravity-warping waves whenever it detected metal, and so it sent the Aerialbots and their ship twisting through space. Although the Decepticons tried to intervene, the Autobots eventually recovered Fireflight and his injured colleagues. Approach of the Demon Meteorite

Following a lengthy repair cycle, Fireflight and the Aerialbots were ready for action when Galvatron and the Decepticons laid siege to Cybertron one last time. Transporting to Cybertron from Earth, they raced into battle (on foot, for some reason). Fireflight and the team got the drop on the Stunticons when they merged into Superion, smashing and scattering the 'Cons before they could form Menasor. Cybertron Is in Grave Danger, Part 1 As the fighting continued, the Aerialbots battled Abominus as Superion and later separated to trade blaster fire with the Stunticons. The warring only came to an end once Scorponok's bombs blew up Vector Sigma and annihilated the planet.Cybertron Is in Grave Danger, Part 2

When a giant carnivorous plant attacked San Francisco, Ultra Magnus dispatched Fireflight and the Aerialbots to combat it. Although they made frequent bombing runs on the organism, the Aerialbots were unable to stop it. Only the arrival of Fortress and his powerful giant Transtector brought an end to the creature's rampage. Head On!! Fortress Maximus Fireflight and the Aerialbots were part of a strike team that flew to the moon to disrupt Scorponok's gathering of Decepticons. They immediately formed Superion upon entering the battle. Return of the Immortal Emperor

When one of Scorponok's Death Towers emerged in Washington D.C., Fireflight and the Aerialbots were dispatched to investigate it. As part of Superion, Fireflight participated in the Autobots final battle with Scorponok's Decepticons at the North Pole. He lent his energies to the Headmasters' Head Formation to revitalize Fortress Maximus at the critical moment. The Final Showdown on Earth (Part 2)
Generation 1
noteukonly
Thanks to his previous connection to the Creation Matrix, Buster Witwicky began experiencing dreams and visions of new Transformers, beginning with an etching of Superion he made without even being consciously aware of it. Devastation Derby! By sharing his visions with Optimus Prime, Buster was able to clarify the images and understand the future of the evolution of the Cybertronian race—amalgam model robots like the Constructicons' Devastator, capable of a more-streamlined merging into a more powerful form. It was these visions which allowed Optimus Prime and Wheeljack to conceive of and construct the Aerialbots. Second Generation!

Working on a plan to reverse engineer the gestalt technology the Decepticons had used to create Devastator, Optimus Prime and the Autobots staged a daring raid on the Decepticon base of operations, giving Bumblebee enough time to digitally record the Constructicons' electrical transformation pattern for study. Command Performances! Working off that blueprint, Wheeljack successfully created Fireflight and the Aerialbots. During the new warriors' testing phase, however, the Autobots were alerted to a Decepticon operation at Hoover Dam. Only the Aerialbots were fast enough to reach the location in time, and so Prime was forced to send them into battle before their programming was completed.

The unfinished programming quickly proved to be an issue, however—only Silverbolt had received the personality directives that made human safety a top priority. When Fireflight's dogfighting with Dirge very nearly caused a deadly avalanche, the Aerialbot leader needed to directly order Fireflight to blast the rocks with his fire-fog missiles before anyone was killed.

The Aerialbots eventually turned the tide on the Decepticons and drove them off, giving them time to focus on the energy siphon which was the core of the problem. At Silverbolt's command, they merged into Superion and began dismantling the drill device. A problem arose, however, when Bombshell's cerebro-shell controlled pawn Ricky Vasquez pointed Megatron (in his gun mode) at the giant Autobot. Because the majority of the Aerialbots were not programmed specifically to protect human life, Superion only saw a potential threat that needed to be eliminated. As the human fought against the Decepticons' control, Silverbolt too fought inside Superion's gestalt mind to protect the human. In the end, Silverbolt was forced to disengage Superion to keep him from destroying the human. Luckily, Ricky was more successful and managed to break the cerebro-shell's hold long enough to point Megatron at the drill and destroy it, ending the threat. Aerialbots over America!

After the near disaster at Hoover Dam, Optimus Prime had the Aerialbots shut down and their programming completely erased. Returned to a blank slate, he then inputed fully-programmed personalities for them with the Matrix before their next mission. It, uh...didn't help. In battle with Menasor as Superion, the Aerialbots were attacked by Circuit Breaker, deactivated, and captured by RAAT. It was only a lucky break that they were eventually freed. Heavy Traffic!

As Grimlock took over the Autobots, Fireflight and the other Aerialbots took an extended leave of absence from the war, since the Dinobot commander focused Autobot resources on repairing their fallen comrades and prepping the Ark to become spaceworthy again.

Sometime later, it was Fireflight, Air Raid, Skydive who were the first to respond to a distress call from Buster Witwicky, the Autobots' old human ally who had been prisoner to the Decepticons for nearly a year. This led the combined Autobot and Decepticon forces into battle with Starscream, who had acquired the nigh-infinite power of the Underbase for himself. The Aerialbots were his first victims, wiped out in a single blast of cosmic power in the skies over New York City. Dark Star (issue)

Along with the other deactivated Autobots aboard the Ark, Fireflight and the Aerialbots were eventually revived by the Nucleon super-energy Grimlock and the Dinobots recovered from Hydrus Four.

Earthforce
earthforcefiction
Fireflight was present with the entire Earthforce team outside Autobot Earthbase when Wheeljack unveiled his brand-new unbreachable defensive system. This was unfortunate, as Wheeljack had forgotten that, once activated, the system could only be turned off from the inside. Prowl elected to run the gauntlet and reach the shutdown console inside, and the Aerialbots provided air support for him. Fireflight and his buddies gunned down the Acid Bats at the entryway, giving Prowl his chance to get through. The House that Wheeljack Built!

Generation 2
After the defeat of Bludgeon and his Decepticons on Klo, the Autobots split into smaller combat units throughout the universe. Once Optimus Prime and Grimlock learned of the threat posed by the second generation Cybertronian army, though, the Autobot forces reconsolidated under their command. Fireflight and the other Aerialbots were first seen after the Autobots had retreated to an asteroid sanctuary for retraining. They were, um, outsmarted by Hot Rod. The Power and the Glory

Later on, Fireflight was fighting with his fellow Aerialbots in the skies of Ethos, defending the planet against genocide by the Cybertronian Empire. Even Skydive's battle plans weren't doing any good, however, and Fireflight was about to give up the fight when the cavalry arrived, in the form of the Decepticon Seekers and Rotor Force. Escalation! The Autobot/Decepticon alliance soon stood against the Cybertronian Empire at Autobase on Earth. Fireflight was seen working a one-two combo with Slag—he'd knock jets out of the sky, and the Dinobot would roast 'em when they hit the ground. Total War!

Dreamwave comics continuity
At some point in Cybertronian history, roughly around the time of the Dark Ages, Fireflight and his Aerialbot comrades became a combiner subgroup, able to merge to form Superion. Because Superion and his fellow super-robots began causing too much sheer devastation during the war, however, the Crisis Intervention Accords were signed by the various factions, prohibiting the use of super-robots. Combiner sub-group members could either join different factions separately (like Motormaster) or remain together as a neutral, unaligned group (like the Protectobots). What Slingshot and the Aerialbots chose to do is unknown. War Within: The Dark Ages

At some point in the late 20th century, Fireflight and the Aerialbots joined the crew of the Ark in fighting the Decepticons on Earth. and his comrades fought alongside Optimus Prime and his crew until Operation Liberation eliminated the Decepticon threat in 1999. Tragically, they and the rest of the Autobots were believed destroyed following the explosion of the Ark II, though in reality the ship was sabotaged by the rogue engineer-turned arms dealer Adam Rook, known as Lazarus, and General Robert Hallo, who planned on reprogramming the Transformers into the service of the United States military. The Aerialbots were some of the few Transformers who were not recovered by Lazarus for his reprogramming venture, now aimed at hiring out the Transformers to the highest bidder. Instead, they lay immobile in the Arctic waters until reactivated as Superion in 2002 by Optimus Prime, using the power of the Matrix of Leadership. Prime Directive issue 2

Fireflight and the Aerialbots in their Superion form, battled the Decepticons in the Northwest Territories of Canada Prime Directive issue 3 and again in San Francisco. However, during the initial skirmish, Superion was broken down into his individual components by the Seekers, giving the Decepticons an advantage. Prime Directive issue 4 When Megatron failed to convince Optimus Prime to join his cause, Silverbolt and his team were freed and eventually reunified in order to intercept a nuclear missile (launched by General Hallo) headed for the California coastline. Superion, and by extension the Aerialbots, were destroyed in stopping the missile. Prime Directive issue 6

Their remains were collected secretly by Earth Defense Command and held in Area 51. Generation One issue 0
Synopsis
Optimus Prime imagines in dread what will happen if Megatron uses the Dark Energon to raise an army of zombies on Cybertron and uses them to conquer Earth.

Jack arrives at KO Burger, and encounters Arcee, who says she's already lost one friend recently. The Autobots have pinpointed Megatron's space bridge in Earth orbit and must use the ground bridge to reach it, despite the risks this poses. Arcee and Jack arrive back in time for Arcee to join the mission, and Optimus leads the team (minus Ratchet) through the bridge. They land up on the space bridge terminal and look up to see the Decepticon ship moving into position. Megatron observes their presence, but Starscream says that Soundwave is locking on to Cybertron's coordinates.

Optimus notes that ship is damaged, and the Decepticons will be unable to use it to aim the space bridge. Raf reasons that the Decepticons may be using a radio dish array in Texas, but Fowler is still too out of it to alert the array staff of the danger. Raf attempts to hack in, but the array's firewalls are too good. Jack thinks they should go on site, and they talk Optimus into letting them do it.

Meanwhile Megatron sends out the Decepticon forces to attack the Autobots. Battle commences.

The kids ground bridge to the array and sneak in. In a small unused room, Raf finds a computer and determines that the Decepticons have also hacked in, but takes the opportunity to download their space bridge plans onto his flash drive. Little do the kids know that Soundwave is in the very next room, plugged into the computer system as well. He aligns the array, which sets the space bridge ready to use, but Raf promptly realigns it. Responding to Starscream's requests to know what's going on, Soundwave taps into the installation's security systems and locates the three kids. While the kids are discussing what the Decepticons could do, Soundwave's tentacle slithers into the room behind them and attacks. As it goes after Raf, Miko grabs an axe and strikes at it. She completely misses, and the tentacle strikes her backward before picking up the axe itself. Though the kids believe it's about to attack them with the weapon, the tentacle withdraws. The kids run to the next room, where they found Soundwave has realigned the dishes and used the axe to cut the hard line, making it impossible to realign the dishes again. Miko then takes a photo on her phone of Soundwave. Before Soundwave leaves, he takes a photo of them.

Starscream activates the space bridge and Megatron physically throws a huge chunk of Dark Energon through. The Dark Energon strikes Cybertron, swiftly covering the planet and turning millions of dead Transformers into millions of zombies. Optimus realizes that the only course of action left to them is to destroy the space bridge. Raf supplies the specs he downloaded earlier, and Ratchet sets about working out a way to do so. As Optimus faces Megatron, Bulkhead, Arcee and Bumblebee go to implement some sabotage.

Megatron manages to defeat Prime, but as he raises his sword, Starscream alerts him to the actions of the other Autobots. Optimus takes advantage of the distraction to blast Megatron, but the Decepticon leader transforms and flies off to find the other Autobots. Arcee's team has succeeded in rigging the space bridge to blow when Megatron attacks and blasts Arcee off into space. The Autobots jump into the ground bridge, Bumblebee collecting Arcee on the way. Megatron realizes his ship appears to be absent, but before his army of zombies can come through, the space bridge explodes in his face.

A short distance away in the ship, Starscream notes that there's totally no way Megatron could have survived that, and he is leader now.

The Autobots make it back to their base, though Arcee's in a bad way. Optimus announces that there's totally no way Megatron could have survived the space bridge explosion. Fowler thanks the Autobots for saving him, and leaves. Optimus gives a big speech, and sends a signal into space to let the galaxy know that Earth is defended by the Autobots.
Notes
Animation or technical errors
Continuity errors
*The zombies are able to leave Cybertron and pass through the space bridge despite the fact that it's in space. Even accounting for the fact that Decepticon corpses might have flight capabilities, it seems unlikely that every zombie would.

Transformers references
*There are two references which are directly related to the 1986 animated movie. First Ratchet says, "Then by all means, let us light our darkest hour." Later, Optimus exchanges with Megatron: "One shall stand" and "one shall fall."
*Megatrons have been known to survive space bridge accidents and malfunctions and even space bridge-related suicide attempts. Same goes for ginormous explosions where he stood at Ground Zero. Hope Starscream and Optimus don't expect to relax.
*Optimus's Energon blade and Megatron's hidden fusion cannon blade are references to their movie counterparts
*Optimus' speech at the end is similar to the ones Movie Optimus gives at the end of both movies.
*The way Cybertron appears on the Space Bridge diagrams looks uncannily similar to the Vector Sigma orb.

Foreign dubbing
Real-world references
* Miko tries to use an axe on Soundwave's tentacle, which is the same tactic Tom Cruise's character tries on the Tripod tentacle in Steven Spielberg's War of the Worlds.

* Miko refers to space as "The final frontier". "Space. The final frontier" is the first line of the opening credits of several Star Trek TV shows. Prime show developers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci are also the screenwriters of the current Star Trek movies.

Trivia
* Winged versions of the Eradicons make their appearance here.
* The Decepticons are unable to simply warp to Cybertron thanks to Bulkhead ripping off a vital piece of equipment in the previous episode.
* While it's unlikely anything from Exodus applies to the cartoon, a number of Autobots including Ultra Magnus, Omega Supreme and the Wreckers were left behind on Cybertron at the end of that book. Sure hope they weren't around when the zombies came crawling. In a similar vein, Shockwave is also still on Cybertron at the end of the novel. Given the established fact that the war had continued on other worlds after Cybertron's shutdown, though (as stated by Cliffjumper in the prequel comic), it's probable that all of them have since moved on to less hostile locales in the intervening years.
* When Starscream tries to convince Megatron to retreat, there is a surprising tone of concern in his voice. Either that, or he's a much better actor than certain other Starscreams.
* It seems to take a lot longer for the zombie army to come from Cybertron across the space bridge than it took for the Dark Energon to get there in the first place. Must've been the sheer mass of all of them.
* A short video showing a rehearsal or an earlier take of the confrontation between Optimus Prime and Megatron was screened at both 2010 and San Diego ComicCon 2010. The dialogue was somewhat different, with Optimus referring to battle on an alien world when ordering the Autobots away, and lacking the "One shall stand, one shall fall" exchange.
This is what happens when you leave Bulkhead in charge.

Synopsis
The three kids and their Autobot guardians head back to the Autobot base, where Ratchet is being attacked by a piece of animated equipment. Optimus Prime deals with it, but now suspects that both it and Cliffjumper were animated by Dark Energon.

Megatron, now powered up by the Dark Energon, has decided his next move and leaves the Decepticon ship in Starscream's hands. Starscream thinks Megatron's gone a bit loopy, and orders Soundwave to increase surveillance.

Optimus has realized Megatron's plan to create an undead army. As the rest of the Autobots arrive, Optimus announces he's going on a mission with Ratchet, who doesn't take kindly to Arcee's suggestion he may be a little rusty. Leaving Arcee in charge, the pair bridge out. Arcee immediately puts Bulkhead in charge and goes out on patrol with Bumblebee. Miko attempts to organize an impromptu band practice, but while she's belting out an electric guitar solo, the proximity alert goes off. The kids hide behind Bulkhead as Agent Fowler walks in to complain about the energon mine explosion. Unfortunately Miko's guitar gives them away, and Fowler announces he's taking them into federal custody, but Bulkhead puts his foot down, and Fowler storms out.

In a remote region, Prime explains to Ratchet that they're looking for the remains of an old Transformer battlefield, from the period in the war when energon started being hidden on other planets.

As Fowler flies from the Autobot base in his copter, he radios in a report, which is intercepted by Soundwave. Starscream orders Fowler captured, so Soundwave sends a drone. The drone catches up with Fowler, who engages in some deft maneuvers to try and avoid it, and even gets some shots off before it slices the tail off his copter and abducts him.

Fowler's distress call is picked up at the Autobot base. Though Bulkhead is reluctant to help, the others point out Fowler knows the location of the base. Raf sets about hacking into a federal computer so they can locate Fowler. Bulkhead leaves Jack in charge and heads out. Bulkhead finds himself near the Decepticon ship, but is surprised when Miko pops up next to him. After dealing with a Decepticon sentry, he contacts Arcee. Back at base, Jack and Raf have realized Miko is gone, and use the ground bridge to follow. Unfortunately this leaves the base unmanned when Arcee rings in to get use of the ground bridge. Jack and Raf arrive at Bulkhead's location, and immediately manage to attract the attention of the Decepticon drones on guard.

Starscream interrogates Fowler without much success, so he resorts to getting out the energon prod.

Meanwhile, Optimus and Ratchet reach the Transformer graveyard they've been searching for. Unfortunately so does Megatron, who uses a chunk of Dark Energon to raise an army of zombies.
Continuity errors
Transformers references
* Ratchet's comment that his hearing is still good even though his servos are rusty is a reference to the Animated Ratchet, who made a similar comment when Bumblebee made a joke about his age.
* Bulkhead has a compartment similar to his Animated incarnation, but higher up on his chest.
* When Soundwave deploys his Mini-con, the method is more simillar to the Breastforce rather than the previously known method.
* Soundwave's drone resembles Ratbat.
* The Transformers seeding energon on Earth and having had wars there in the distant past before have turned up in recent fiction, IDW's comics and Revenge of the Fallen. The latter was also in an 80s Ladybird Book, "Galvatron's Air Attack".

Foreign dubbing
Real-world references
Trivia
* This episode tries to resolve some of the continuity issues with Dark Energon the previous episode causes. Both Optimus and Ratchet know of its existence and even the rumor that it brings the dead back to life. Supplies of it were just so scarce as to be non-existent, hence their inexperience with it.
* In an amusing show of cultural differences, Bulkhead tries to order Miko to look away before tearing out an Eradicon's internals (presumably to spare her the sight of the carnage). Miko sees no problem with it, only seeing a hunk of metal and a bunch of wires.
* No, really, Bulkhead was going to leave Fowler in Decepticon hands because he didn't like him. What a jerk!
* Twelve-year-old Raf can hack into the United States goverment and track down federal agents. What national security?
* Check out where Starscream sticks Fowler with the energon prod. Ouch! Forms sort of an amusing callback to Bulkhead's earlier comment about him...
At the end of the Great War, a disillusioned Decepticon lost himself in the dark underground gladiatorial games beneath Cybertron. He sopped his wounds in honorable mortal combat and forgot the military life that had failed him. His signature move was to decapitate his opponents when they lost, earning him the nickname "the Drancutter". Not surprisingly, Unicron saw potential there. He captured Drancron and transformed him with his dark power. Gone now were all thoughts of honor, and in their place, his already great lust for battle was amplified to an immeasurable degree. Drancron now lives only for the kill. And for Unicron. Beast Wars Sourcebook
The Autobots try to get Cliffjumper back, unaware of what the Decepticons have done to him.

Synopsis
Starscream shows off the massive energon deposit that the Decepticons have located. After Megatron reminds his subordinate who's boss, he shows off what he's found — Dark Energon, the blood of Unicron, which Starscream claims is said to have the power to resurrect the dead. Though Megatron inquires if Starscream is willing to volunteer to try it out, it turns out they still have Cliffjumper's corpse handy.

In Autobot HQ, Optimus Prime tells the kids that the Autobots will have to protect them, as the Decepticons will likely be interested in the Autobots' new allies. A proximity alert lets the Autobots know that Agent Fowler, their liaison with the US government, is paying them a visit. Fowler is not happy with the Autobots' antics during the recent freeway chase, but Bulkhead points out no humans were hurt. After Prime's assurances that the Autobots will take care of things, Fowler leaves.

Megatron uses the Dark Energon on Cliffjumper, who revives as a snarling savage beast and immediately attacks a couple of Decepticon soldiers. The thing that was Cliffjumper then turns on Megatron, who slices him in two and announces that the Dark Energon is the key to a vast indestructible army.

Ratchet reports that he's detected Cliffjumper's signal and the chance that Cliffjumper's alive is too much for the Autobots to resist. Leaving the kids with Ratchet, they take the ground bridge out. Ratchet explains the ground bridge to the amazed kids, and threatens to send them to Tokyo. Meanwhile the rest of the Autobots arrive in the energon mine and start fighting Decepticon drones. Starscream alerts Megatron, who feels he needs more time to prepare to face Optimus, and orders the ship made ready for departure. He also order Starscream to blow up the mine. As the battle rages, Arcee spots Cliffjumper. The other Autobots cover her, and she reaches her fellow Autobot, or what's left of him, only to discover what the Decepticons have done. Starscream stops by to drop off a bomb, before making a rapid exit. The Autobots race through the mine ahead of the explosion, back to their entry point as Optimus radios Ratchet to order the opening of the Ground Bridge.

After the team arrives back at base, Arcee tells the others what she saw. She becomes dizzy, and Ratchet scans her and finds contamination on her wrist. While Arcee goes and gets cleaned up, the kids explain to Optimus that they really need to get home, or their relatives will send the cops out looking for them. Prime assigns Bulkhead to take Miko home, Bumblebee to take care of Raf, and Arcee to Jack. Arcee and Jack arrive home shortly before Jack's mother hauls up in her car. Mom's less than impressed that Jack appears to have bought a motorcycle, but Jack talks her around. The next morning, despite Jack's protests that it's a Saturday, Arcee insists that they need to get to HQ.

On the Decepticon ship, Megatron is skeptical that Optimus perished in the destruction of the energon mine. Starscream is concerned that Megatron is being affected by too much exposure to the Dark Energon, but Megatron responds by taking a sliver of the substance and plunging it into his own spark.

Ratchet's analysis of the Dark Energon sample he retrieved from Arcee is incomplete due to his lack of the necessary technology. As he moves the sample to another part of the lab, some of it drips on the manipulator arm Bulkhead broke earlier. Unseen by Ratchet, the arm twitches into life, turning into a one eyed, spider like creature.

Transformers references
*Dark Energon is a central MacGuffin for Megatron in this continuity, first being used in the War for Cybertron games, as well as in the Exodus novel. Megatron and Starscream's introductory conversation about the substance is very expository for the benefit of viewers who haven't read the book or played the game, to the extent that it sounds like neither of them has encountered it before, and neither Arcee nor Ratchet is indicated to have any familiarity with the substance, despite having seen it first-hand back during the war. And yet, Arcee does compare Decepticon experiments during the war on Cybertron to the substance's effect on Cliffjumper, without explicitly naming the stuff (though previously it didn't make anyone crazed zombies... on the other hand, it was never used on a dead guy before (that we know of). Sorry Cliff, thems the breaks). It's all a bit wobbly; while the cartoon almost certainly seems to have been written as if it is the characters' first encounter with Dark Energon, the dialogue does have enough wiggle room if you're obstinate, like us!
*The purple goo shares the similar property of changing ordinary machines into Transformers with the AllSpark.
*The spark, first established as a part of the Transformers mythos by Beast Wars, returns in Prime.

Razorbeast was an undercover agent embedded by Lio Convoy in Magmatron's organization to discover, and if possible to foil, the general's plans. He traveled back in time to prehistoric Earth with Magmatron and his crew to retrieve the rogue Megatron. However this was just a front to the true plan, to challenge the Maximals for control of Cybertron. Magmatron needed an army, and prehistoric Earth was littered with the stasis pods that had been abandoned by the Axalon. Magmatron had Razorbeast awaken these protoforms as Predacons, however, Razorbeast inserted a virus into the protoform-awakening software which allowed some of them to retain their Maximal allegiance. The Gathering issue 1

Fleeing from Magmatron, Razorbeast hooked up with the few Maximals he could immediately find: B'Boom, Snarl, Optimus Minor, Bonecrusher, Ramulus, and Wolfang. B'Boom in particular had difficulty trusting Razorbeast at first, as the warthog's camouflage programming caused him to broadcast a Predacon spark signature even now. The Gathering issue 2

Still, this rag-tag crew worked together on a pair of simultaneous missions: to prevent Magmatron from mucking with the timeline, and salvage the proper equipment to send a distress signal back to Cybertron. Magmatron was successfully dispatched back into the future, but the signal array was destroyed before it could be properly utilized. In the end, Razorbeast and company joined up with Torca's militia, Prowl's air force, and the remaining Maximals to continue protecting Earth against the Predacons and their new commander, the rebuilt Ravage. The Gathering issue 3 The Gathering issue 4

Razorbeast continued to lead the Maximals against Ravage's Predacons, hoping for eventual rescue. After launching constant hit-and-run attacks, Ravage eventually set his Predacons on a full-tilt assault against the Maximals, hoping to steal the chronal phase armbands that would allow him to sync up with the "other" Beast Wars. The Ascending issue 1

With the arrival of the Pack on Earth, victory and rescue seemed imminent. But the machinations of Unicron came into play when Razorbeast was infected with Angolmois by Rartorata, and was transformed into a feral beast. The Ascending issue 2

The Maximals were forced to wrestle Razorbeast to the ground and restrain him to get him under control as the Predacons handled Rartorata. Lio Convoy managed to break through the Angolmois-madness and bring Razorbeast back to his senses temporarily, but when Drancron and Elephorca arrived on the scene, Razorbeast broke free and turned his rage on the two Blendtrons. The Ascending issue 3

He managed to defeat Elephorca largely by himself, and the others managed to beat Drancron and Rartorata. With no new enemies to focus his rage on, Razorbeast began to lose control again. A distraught Optimus Minor was forced to shoot his friend in the head, killing him, lest he harm the surviving Maximals and Predacons.

Showing his respect and regard for a fallen foe, Magmatron would later remark that if anyone deserved a monument for their actions this day, Razorbeast would be the one. The Ascending issue 4

* The card-art for Razorbeast shows him with two handguns. It's possible that an early design of the toy was intended to split the mane in half. In the comics, he alternates between holding his gun in his hand and leaving it mounted on his back while firing.

* Simon Furman picked Razorbeast as the main Maximal character of The Gathering before he even saw a picture of him. Razorbeast's name just stood out to him. He also stated that had he seen the toy before he made that decision, he might have used someone different.

*Unsurprisingly, the going price for Razorbeast's toy on eBay has jumped considerably since his starring role in IDW's comics. Call it "The Bludgeon Effect" - Simon does it again!

*Razorbeast's corruption and death in the comics is uncannily similar to those of the boar gods Nago and Lord Okoto from the anime film Princess Mononoke.
At Unicron's command, the Blendtrons went to prehistoric Earth, attacking the Maximals and Predacons stranded there. Drancron was apparently killed when Spittor knocked him into his teammate Rartorata's stinger, which caused a violent reaction in the Angolmois powering his body. The explosion wiped him, Rartorata, Spittor, and Lazorbeak out. The Ascending issue 3 The Ascending issue 4
This launcher mechanism forms his tail in beast mode, and fires with a pressure-trigger on the beast's back. His right forearm takes the form of an enormous claw known as the "Drancutter" formed by the upper set of beast-mode wings, which flap/snap open and closed when you push a small lever back and forth.

Drancron, with Elephorca and Rartorata, brought Angolmois capsules to Shokaract on the orders of Unicron, priming him as a "vessel". The Ascending issue 1 The Ascending issue 2

: Drancron is a redeco of the Beast Wars Deluxe Fuzor Sky Shadow, transforming into a beast mode that is a combination of lizard and dragonfly parts. He can fire a pressure-launch "Clap Missile" (we don't know either) from his robot mode mouth. They can also be locked in the "open wide" position thanks to a catch in the mechanism.

::*More information on Drancron at TFU.info

Notes
* It is often thought that the beast-mode head forms Sky Shadow/Drancron's left hand. However, a set of (immobile) claws are molded into the wrist behind the head, giving them a somewhat more "normal" hand. The Beast Wars Neo model catches this.
* His name is apparently a corruption of Drencrom, a slang term for Adrenochrome used in A Clockwork Orange. Considering the Blendtrons' ultraviolent nature and the drug-like corruptive effects of the Angolmois Energy, this is not entirely inappropriate.
