The planet '''Earth''', third from its sun in the Sol System in the Milky Way galaxy, is a world populated by a wide variety of native organic lifeforms, most notably, [[human|humans]]. Versions of this planet are known to exist in many dimensions within the multiverse, and it frequently becomes involved in the conflicts of the [[Transformers]]. Perhaps too frequently. Whenever something (or someone) leaves, escapes, or is otherwise ejected from [[Cybertron]], there's a disproportionate chance it will eventually wind up on Earth.

Earth is superficially similar to the planet upon which you may reside, but has many subtle and not so subtle differences.

==Generation 1==

===American animated continuity===

Around nine million years BC, the Earth was visited by the Transformers [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream]] and [[Jetfire (G1)|Skyfire]], but Skyfire was caught in a polar wind storm and separated from Starscream, buried in ice. Then, four million years BC, the Transformers' spacecraft, the [[Ark]], crash-landed in what would become the north-western United States, entombing the robots within in stasis.

Earth is home to many unusual creatures and "hidden civilizations." The underwater city of [[Sub-Atlantica]], populated by water-breathing fish-like humanoids, gave rise to the legends of Atlantis and other sunken cities. Also, fire-breathing [[dragon]]s exist naturally as late as the medieval era, though by the 20th century, they appeared to have died out. A possible descendant was the unique, reptillian creatre known as the "Beast of Borneo" captured by big game hunter [[Lord Chumley]].

The magma energy of the Earth's core is channeled by a series of green crystalline structures, which the Decepticons attempted to exploit in 1984, exposing a crystal shaft in the North Pole and tapping the core's energy (while, at the same time, happening upon and reactivating the body of Skyfire). Another unusual aspect of the planet is the natural existence of [[electrum]], a metallic alloy that renders Transformers invulnerable when coated in it.

By the year 2005, human interaction with the Transformers had resulted in an advanced level of technology worldwide, and the foundation of the [[Earth Defense Command]], which operates a series of space stations. Saturn's moon, [[Titan]], was colonised, and an EDC base was established on [[Mars]], while travel between star systems was hugely enhanced by the creation of warp-gates. Earthling [[Spike Witwicky]] became Earth's ambassador, first to [[Cybertron]], and then to other alien worlds as, through the Transformers, humanity came into contact with other races.

===Japanese animated continuity===

In the expanded fiction of the additional Japanese-exclusive animated series, the existence of the sunken continents [[Atlantis]] and [[Lemuria]] was confirmed. Later, it was revealed that a small group of [[Autobot]] and [[Decepticon]] [[Pretender]]s crash-landed on the planet in the Stone Age. While the Autobots used their Pretender abilities to adopt the form of humans, the Decepticons assumed monstrous forms and were mistaken by early man as "demons." Finally defeating the Decepticons and sealing them away - within the pyramids of Giza, the ruins of Atlantis and beneath the [[Nazca Lines]] of Peru - the Autobots then integrated themselves into human society, serving as secret protectors who quietly and subtly guided the evolution of human society.

Earth was invaded by the Decepticons sometime during 2002, presumably for the purposes of harvesting its local resources. However, the recent discovery of [[Ore-13]] by [[Starscream_(G1)|Starscream]]'s team prompted the treacherous lieutenant to break protocol in an effort to rebel against Megatron.

A detachment of Autobots, led by Prowl, is also present on Earth in an attempt to prevent the Decepticons from pillaging the planet. One of its members, Ratchet, also broke protocol by initiating direct contact with three humans, who proved invaluable in gaining intelligence on Starscream's operations.

The discovery of Ore-13 threatens to make Earth the new front line in the war between the Autobots and Decepticons. But if you didn't see that coming...

The mysterious aliens known as the [[Vok]] chose prehistoric Earth as the site of an experiment, and seeded the planet with vast amounts of raw [[Energon]], installing a second, artificial moon into the planet's orbit and placing several devices at strategic points on the planet. Around the time of the emergence of proto-hominids, a group of [[Maximal]]s and [[Predacon (BW)|Predacons]] from Cybertron's future travelled back in time to prehistoric Earth, where they waged a war they dubbed the "[[Beast Wars]]," and encountered the Vok, interfering in their plans. Deciding that the Beast Warriors had contaminated their experiment, the Vok activated the second moon, transforming it into a giant laser weapon with which they planned to detonate the Energon seeded throughout the planet, wiping it clean of life. This plan was foiled by the Maximal leader, [[Optimus Primal (BW)|Optimus Primal]], but the vast majority of the raw Energon on the planet was transformed into stable, cube form. Eventually, the Maximals returned to Cybertron with the Predacon leader, [[Megatron (BW)|Megatron]] their prisoner. The only surviving Predacon, [[Waspinator (BW)|Waspinator]], was left on the planet as the leader of a tribe of protohumans. Although they eventually rejected him and he too returned to Cybertron, it is unclear precisely how much influence Waspinator may have had on the evolution of humanity and their culture. Many would find this disturbing.

Interestingly, by the time immediately prior to the Beast Wars, Earth and its sector in space was declared off-limits by order of the [[Maximal High Council]], and likely all information about it tightly regulated. It's unknown precisely when and why this ban was initiated.

A future version of Earth was later visited by Maximals and Predacons under the command of [[Leo Prime]] and [[Galvatron (BWII)|Galvatron]], respectively. At first known only as '''"[[Gaia]]"''', the world was known to have two sentient inhabitants, a girl named [[Artemis]] and her companion [[Moon]]. Although the prescene of what seemed to be a decimated Tokyo Tower suggested that Gaia was Earth, it was not fully confirmed until release of the ''[[Robot Masters]]'' toyline's version of Leo Prime, the bio to which revealed that Earth had been devastated by mankind's tampering with the power source known as [[Angolmois]] energy.

===Animated continuity===
After the first defeat of [[Unicron]], Earth was chosen as one of the planets to receive a [[Cyber Planet Key]], which would have reformatted the planet into a Transformer colony. However, the colony ship [[Atlantis]], also carrying the [[Omega Lock]], crashed onto the planet before it could begin its mission.

Some time later, when the [[Mini-Con|Mini-Cons]] fled Cybertron to escape being used as tools, their ship came out of warp above Earth. Impacting onto the planet's [[moon]], the Mini-Con ship broke in half sending a large chunk of the craft into Earth's atmosphere. [[Mini-Con storage panel|Mini-Con storage panels]] were spread across the globe and the ship itself crashed onto the surface, where they laid dormant for nearly a million years.{{storylink|First Contact}}

The '''Transformers''' are a species of robots (mostly) originating from the planet [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]].

Though this is the most common term for them, there are others, mainly "'''Cybertron'''" as a reference to ''any'' being whose origin traces back to the planet in question (the adjective form being "'''Cybertronian'''").

The name Transformer stems from the species' generally-shared ability to "transform," to change from a robotic primary mode (usually, but not always, humanoid) into an alternate form, generally vehicles, weapons, machinery, or animals. In some continuities this abillity to transform is innate to all members of the species, in others it was a wartime innovation that was adopted by most, but not all, Cybertronians.

Transformers are living beings, despite their (usually) mechanical bodies. Many continuities portray this life as being granted by a soul-like [[spark]].

Traditionally, Transformers are fully-mechanical beings, but by the [[Beast Era]] of the [[Generation 1]] [[continuity family]] synthetic flesh has become increasingly incorporated into their construction, often to aid in disguise or survival on worlds inhabited by organic lifeforms. (A version of this technology had been introduced earlier with [[Pretender]] Transformers, though in that instance the sythetic flesh was a removable outer "shell").

In the era of ''[[Beast Machines]]'', events lead to true organics being infused into Transformers biology down to the cellular level, making them "[[technorganic]]" with an increased range of powers resulting. (The "[[ParasiTech]]" techonolgy introduced in the Generation-1-based [[Kiss-Player]] series seems to have an organic component to it as well.)

===Sizes===
Transformers are ''generally'' large in comparison to Earth lifeforms, (two or three times the height of a human seems to be about average, though depictions vary wildly even for the same character), but a Transformer can be much, much smaller or much, much larger. There are some small enough to fit in a human's palm (see [[Browning]]). While the [[Micromaster]]s and [[Mini-Con]]s are two groups whose size range is within normal human standards at a time when most Transformers are larger, human-sized appears to be the norm for Transformers altogether in the Beast Era. Others can be a good deal larger, like the colossal city-bots [[Metroplex (G1)|Metroplex]] or [[Fortress Maximus (G1)|Fortress Maximus]] (the latter depending on the continuity). In the ''[[Cybertron (franchise)|Cybertron]]'' series, the planet [[Gigantion]] is populated by both extremes: robots who tower over "normal"-sized Transformers, aided by their tiny Mini-Con partners.

===Variance in form===
While many Transformers possess a "humanoid" form with two arms, two legs and a head atop their torso, it is not uncommon at all for there to be extensive variations. Some Transformers do not have a "humanoid" mode at all, rather their "primary" form is that of an animal or vehicle. [[Generation 1]]'s [[Ravage]], [[Grand Slam]] and [[Raindance]], for example, or the ''Beast Wars'' [[Mutant (BW)|Mutants]].

Some have unconventional limbs, their hands (or whole arm) replaced with tools, claws, weapons, or some other form of manipulator (like a beast-mode's head!). Some Transformers' lower bodies feature digitigrade legs, or wheels/treads instead of feet, or no discerable separate legs at all. Some even have more (or less!) than the normal number of limbs altogether. This design style became much more common in the Beast Era (''Beast Wars'' [[Quickstrike (BW)|Quickstrike]] and ''Beast Machines'' [[Thrust]], for example), and is also common among the Mini-Cons, but Generation 1 is not without its examples (like [[Shockwave (G1)|Shockwave]], [[Scorponok (G1)|Scorponok]], and [[Octus]]).

Transformers' faces also run the gamut of design, from looking like a metal human in a helmet, to faces that can only be described as robotic (again, like Generation 1 Shockwave, whose face consists of little more than a single glowing eye) or animalistic (again, the Beast Era). The Mini-Cons are also notable for more commonly having non-humanoid faces.

The existance and appearence of [[Female Transformers]] in most continuities seem to suggest a level of "sexual" dimorphism to the species as well (the term sexual is used in a gender-based, rather than physical sense, see [[Reproduction]] for that whole kettle of robo-fish). In almost all cases female Transformers are portrayed as more gracile of form and more rounded and curved in general, often with a more than passing resemblance to an attactive metal human female wearing armor and kibble. There are rare exceptions to this rule (notably [[Strika]] and [[Discharge]], though the latter is said to be wearing armor that obscures her true appearence.)

===Energy===
Unlike humans who need air and water as well as food, generally the Transformer's only major biological need to assure their continued functioning is fuel (though again, even this can vary depending on the fiction). [[Energon]] is the most common and prefered form of Transformer fuel, but other alternitives may be substituted if it is unavailable. By the Beast Era, many could ingest organic substances to supplement their fuel needs.

===New bodies===
It is not uncommon at all for a single Transformer to change bodyform many times across their life-span. The ease of which they can do so depends on the continuity's technology level. In some, changing bodies requires an extensive full-body rebuild and tends to be resource draining and even dangerous. Sometimes, however, all it takes it to transplant their brain or personality program into a compatible new body. Other times, the existing body itself will be "reformatted" on the spot using a scan of a local compatible alt-mode (this is most prevalent during the [[Unicron Trilogy]]).

While not entirely 'new bodies' themselves, the [[Transmetal]] bodies - caused by exposure to [[Transwarp]] quantum surges - somehow 'mutates' the bodies of Transformers in the Beast Era. How this is done on-the-fly with no harm to the Transformer is unknown.

There is no longer such place as '''Planet X'''. It continues to exist solely as a codeword, an identifier for an underground army of loosely-affiliated Transformer criminals. The true number of "Planet X's" forces is unknown, and many of their identities are similarly shrouded in mystery.

What '''is''' known about Planet X is that the warriors, thieves, assassins, and other dubious characters who claim a link to it are the survivors of a dead planet. The Manifest Destiny of Planet X was to subjugate countless worlds, and it did, enslaving the natives and feeding the whole of their conquered worlds piece-by-piece into the World Furnaces that powered it. But their expansion ended at contact with [[Gigantion]], the Giant Planet. As a result of the battle between the two planets, Planet X went nova. The few survivors, driven mad in their quest for vengeance, made a deal with no less a force than [[Unicron]] himself, offering their services in exchange for the destruction of the hated Giant Planet.

The [[Decepticon]]s [[Sideways]], [[Soundwave (Cybertron)|Soundwave]] and [[Soundblaster (Cybertron)|Soundblaster]] are currently the only known Planet X operatives. However, swarms of [[Laserbeak drone|bird-drones]] left over from the planet's mass armies still exist, and are just as dangerous as they were back when Planet X was whole.

According to the booklet included with the final Japanese ''Galaxy Force'' DVD release, Planet X itself was the living body of a Unicron from a parellel universe that went into a frenzy repair mode after [[Megatron (Armada)|Master Megatron]] absorbed Unicron's spark. Planet X's repair systems went mad and resurrected a portion of Transformers it had absorbed from Cybertron to manage its frantic systems. These beings were the agents of Planet X and unknowing servants of Unicron. For decades, they took over other worlds for fuel in a galactic conquest.

Soundwave, a data analyst, dug deep into their planet and found a massive memory bank belonging to Unicron. Soundwave and the others moved the data to their own memory banks and began to study it. Planet X eventually travelled to a parallel universe in search of energy and encountered [[Gigantion|Gigalonia]], eventually unlocking the full potential of their planet, and destroying themselves in the process. Long after Planet X's explosion, Soundwave was able to learn of [[Primus]], the [[Cyber Planet Key]]s, and their ties to [[Gigantion|Gigalonia]]. Soundwave and the few survivors of Planet X are looking to use these things to resurrect their homeworld and destroy Gigalonia.

Shortly after the conclusion of ''Galaxy Force'', Soundwave and Sideways escaped [[fire space]] to examine the dimension they had been transported to after the climactic explosion between [[Megatron (Armada)|Master Galvatron]] and [[Starscream (Armada)|Super Starscream]]. In this universe they found another Planet X, not yet destroyed.

'''Velocitron''', otherwise known as the '''Speed Planet''', was colonized by a group of spacefaring, trailblazing Cybertronians aboard the starship ''[[Ogygia]]'' eons ago. Racing is the order of the day for the denizens of the Speed Planet, and if you're not a racer or working ''for'' a racer or watching a race, you're not a Velocitronian.

The planet-spanning super-races the [[Speedia 500]] and the [[Planet Cup]] are held on Velocitron, with the winner of the latter becoming the planet's ruler. Until the recent arrival of [[Autobot]]s and [[Decepticon]]s from [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]], [[Override (Cybertron)|Override]] held court (the first and only female Velocitronian to do so), but the leader of the planet was defeated in an upset by the impetuous [[Hot Shot (Armada)|Hot Shot]].

The planet appears to be a primarily desert world, with most of the globe covered in seas of sand interspersed with rocky cliffs, though reportedly it has a "bayou" region that's a bit more swampy in nature. Huge superhighways and racetracks crisscross the surface, patrolled by colossal cleaning/repair drones.

Reportedly, Override has a private racetrack retreat roughly the size of Texas on [[Earth]], which has been carefully manicured to her exacting specifications, with lush forests and more lining some of the most high-tech tracks on the entire planet.

Velocitron, like its three sister planets [[Gigantion]], [[Jungle Planet]], and Earth were threatened by the [[Unicron Singularity]]. Only the discovery of the planet's [[Cyber Planet Key]], which over time had come to be used as the trophy for the Planet Cup race, could ensure its survival.
