'''Dreamwave Productions''' was a fairly unknown independent comic book publisher when it obtained the ''Transformers'' license in 2001. For a time, there was gigantic buzz surrounding Dreamwave's relaunch of the Generation 1 title, even pushing it past Marvel and DC's top titles. Many comic book fans had been away from Transformers for a long time and were overjoyed to see highly detailed manga-style art driving a childhood favorite.

Dreamwave published a good deal of ''Transformers'' books, including many varied miniseries, before capitulating to the notoriously fickle comic-buying public. Towards the end of 2004 delays started getting more and more frequent. This was followed by rumors of writers and artists leaving because they weren't being paid, which were then confirmed. In early January 2005, Dreamwave declared bankruptcy, and there were no Transformers comics to be had for more than half of 2005.
Derik, on-screen Movie characters need to have Dreamworks images at the top of their pages. -[[User:Rotty|Rotty]] 21:18, 13 July 2007 (UTC)
:...why? If a character appears in multiple media we seem to pick whatever shows the character off best. This book (being a retelling of the movie) probably isn't the best example, but if we got a great image of Prime by Geoff Senior in the UK Mag, can we never use that?
:(I'm not disagreeing that there ''is'' a good argument for reverting to the original picture,but I'm not sure I agree with your statement that Dreamworks renders are ''automatically'' the only acceptable main image. Frankly, I think a ''lot'' of Dreamworks images look bad when not in motion.)

-[[User:Derik|Derik]] 21:47, 13 July 2007 (UTC)

:Because we need the top-quality Dreamworks renders on every on-screen character's page in any case, and putting them on top creates consistency like a legitimate encyclopedia. You added a ''great'' image, but it belongs down further. -[[User:Rotty|Rotty]] 21:50, 13 July 2007 (UTC)
::I still prefer that render of the actual CG model used in the movie than the low-res, low-detail promotional CG model render we're using now. --[[User:FFN|FFN]] 21:59, 13 July 2007 (UTC)
::::Apparently we can't. They decided that the movie design looked ugly and that was the end of discussion, evidently. I, on the other hand, think the lower-detail design from late 2005/2006 that the toys are based upon looks... incomplete (I mean the front of the hood just becomes these little nubs under his windows!) and not as visually impressive as the final version. --[[User:FFN|FFN]] 22:10, 13 July 2007 (UTC)

I'm looking at these 4 images- and I'm really not seeing the huge differences between the designs of 2 and 3 that you're describing. Where does his hood go on #2 version that it doesn't in #3? #3 looks liek a rougher, simpler (better proportioned) model, but of the final design to me. And ''any'' way you cut it, i think #1 and #2 are the ''ugliest'' pictures in this lineup.

<nowiki>#</nowiki>1's shoulder is coming out of his crotch, for instance. If the final image misleads the eye about spatial relationships then it's ''badly composed''. The abstract knowledge that it is a 3d model and thus spatially perfect does not change the fact it it a terrible 2D image. #3 has displeasing proportions- and frankly is boring and inspiring, capturing none of Prime's character. -[[User:Derik|Derik]] 22:38, 13 July 2007 (UTC)

I don't know if it matters to anyone. But I prefer images 3 and 4. #1 is AWEFUL. #2 is boring. #3 is decent. #4 Is the best image, objectively, but of course isn't CGI.--[[User:ZacWilliam|ZacWilliam]] 22:57, 13 July 2007 (UTC)
::It' not like we're locked into the CGI- we don't use it for [[Cheetor]]'s main image. If anything we seem to like having [[Terrorsaur (BW)|some variety]] to the sources we use. That said- this ''is'' Prime, and I'd like to have a Dreamworks image if we could find one that doesn't suck. It's not like we're locked into 'Okay it MUST be one of the Dreamworks promo images,' or that any image we choose is permanent. Once the Blue-ray of the movie comes out we'll have lots of images to choose from (Not the mention the promised intermezzo story.)
::I happen to think [http://www.emopanda.com/tmp/we_are_waiting.jpg this] is a gorgeous image, and even though it's of Prime's back, it captures something central to his character, and unique to the Movie version, the decision to make Earth not just a second home like in every other continuity ever- but an ''only'' home. -[[User:Derik|Derik]] 00:39, 14 July 2007 (UTC)

:What does the first picture have to do with anything? That's the old design anyway, and it seems most people hate that pose. The hood on the final model is more obviously hood-shaped and sits there on his torso. On the earlier design, they become red, for a lack of a better word, ''shapes''. It is, by comparison, a poor CG model to the actual movie one, and the only thing going for it is its HEROIC POSE. But I can already see that maintaining such a differing opinion will be to no avail. --[[User:FFN|FFN]] 23:08, 13 July 2007 (UTC)
::You're all disdainful of the heoric pose. Why? Do you think that the main image should be lifeless and dead as long as it's correct? It's not like these are the only two renders of Prime out there. -[[User:Derik|Derik]] 00:39, 14 July 2007 (UTC)

:::I'm not a fan of the model, not the pose. Those stupidly long blue things on his forearms appear to have been shorted or folded on the movie model. --[[User:FFN|FFN]] 02:06, 14 July 2007 (UTC)
== EW Interview canonical? ==

How do we want to treat the new Entertainment Weekly intereview with movie Prime? It was apparently written by the screenplay writers and was (likely?) approved by Hasbro to see print, does that make it official canon? We HAVE set a president of a sort by counting things like [[Toaster (G1)|Toaster]] and the "ask vector prime" info, though those were from first party sources and this is in a second party source but was likely approved by first party? So, um yeah, is that official enough? I ask because though tounge-in-cheek it mentions things like movie Ratchet's wedding that might deserve a passing light-hearted mention on his page. If we are taking Toaster and Blaster's sister as cannon then is this any different? Thoughts? --[[User:ZacWilliam|ZacWilliam]] 01:35, 21 April 2007 (UTC)
:I don't know how likely or not it was to have been Hasbro approved. Given how meta-jokingly it's written -- with Optimus and Megatron being actors who play Optimus and Megatron in the movie, Megatron being such a method actor it's best to avoid him when he's in-character because he might vaporize you -- I'm not really sure how to treat it as "canon."

:Also, I feel I must nitpickingly point out that, technically, the reference isn't to ''movie'' Ratchet's wedding, as that answer comes in response to a question about whether Optimus kept up with "his old Autobot buddies from the show," and we of course are treating the movie and G1 characters as separate entities. ;) --[[User:KilMichaelMcC|KilMichaelMcC]] 02:56, 21 April 2007 (UTC)

::I agree it's a tricky call, which is why I bring it up. I'd guess anything written by the screenwriters as promo for the movie in a major publication like EW would have had to have some kind of official OK/oversite. The "meta" side of it, being tounge in cheek and breaking the third wall and all that is an issue too, but at the same time we include things like the tounge-in-cheek, third-wall-breaking Botcon scripts, UK letters page, and ask Vector Prime which all proceed from similar footing. It's worth debate at least. --[[User:ZacWilliam|ZacWilliam]] 03:08, 21 April 2007 (UTC)
I recently picked up a leader class prime and when I tried to transform it, one of its elbows wouldn't bend. at first I thought it was the screws, but upon closer inspection, the two arm parts had fused solid! is it my figure or a larger oversight on hasbros part?
:Yeah, they are siblings. Its in the comics, kids books, novelisation ect, as I understand it. They toned down the reference to that one line in the movie for some reason, as the references were apparently more prevalent in the older draft. --[[User:FFN|FFN]] 16:57, 10 July 2007 (UTC)

Just wondering if the "Who is Dion?" bit isn't a bit too speculative? Really this should be a tiny footnote about the references to his origins. Sure, it's nice to note about the fan speculation -- but should it take up the bulk of the entry? I also the question of putting "Who is Dion" links on other character's pages considering there's no concrete links between these characters and Dion -- other than wishful thinking by fans. ---JHIAXUS.
:I think the article is fine as it is. Fandom debate about who, if anyone, Dion got rebuilt into is pretty much the most significant thing about the character. --[[User:KilMichaelMcC|KilMichaelMcC]] 22:39, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
::Yeah. The Dion debate is too significant to the fandom (enough that Dreamwave's comics and the RID cartoon gave it lipservice) to ignore. --[[User:ItsWalky|ItsWalky]] 22:41, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

I'll bow to others if they think so, but I really question Huffer belonging in the "who is" section. Magnus and Ironhide have been cannadates argued over since the internet was a yong trasnsistor, but I've never heard anyone suggest Huffer before. Sure, there's the color scheme likeness but that's all I see. Is there REALLY any argument to keep him in there?--[[User:ZacWilliam|ZacWilliam]] 02:39, 16 July 2007 (UTC)

:I buy it even LESS than I buy Ironhide or Magnus being Dion... and I don't think either damn one of them was ever Dion. This is the first time I've ever heard this little piece of badly-argued fanon. --[[User:M Sipher|M Sipher]] 02:42, 16 July 2007 (UTC)

:Of course not. But this article isn't constructed along sane lines. You could have Ultra Magnus walk up and say "Prime, you were my good friend Orion Pax when I was Dion<ref>In the episode [[War Dawn]]. - Referential Simon</ref>, and I have to speak with you!" and people would ''still'' argue that this statement can't be applied to cartoon continuity. They're attached to Ironhide in their personal continuity.<br/>
:That's three votes for "No Huffer," one more and I say he goes. (Not that it's particularly relevant but I'm a Magnus man myself. I'm sure the writers didn't imntend it, but who cares about that? It makes sense to me and fits the universe and the characters and, to me atleast, it just feels right. But eh, to each his own.)--[[User:ZacWilliam|ZacWilliam]] 02:57, 16 July 2007 (UTC)

:In my opinion, the entire "Who is Dion?" section is ridiculous and should be trimmed down to consist only of the first two sentences, perhaps with the third tagged on (but with Huffer reverted out of the list). Spending even a second paragraph on the idea that Dion ''must'' be somebody important is way more than the idea deserves. --[[User:Steve-o|Steve-o]] 03:19, 16 July 2007 (UTC)
:: I agree, only with more profanity. --[[User:M Sipher|M Sipher]] 03:35, 16 July 2007 (UTC)

I restructured the section to downplay Huffer a bit. I suppose the whole thing could stand to be reduced a bit, but as I said above some months back: fandom debate about who, if anyone, Dion got rebuilt into is pretty much the most significant thing about the character. So I have no real problem with the article reflecting that. --[[User:KilMichaelMcC|KilMichaelMcC]] 03:40, 16 July 2007 (UTC)

The reason I put Huffer in the article is because it seems to make to the most sense. From the discussion above I'm not the only one that noticed a similarity. Personally, I think Dion is kind of a loser that should never be mentioned in the same sentence as Ultra Magnus or Ironhide. On the other hand I don't feel the same about the Huffer connection. If the whole "Who is" section must go than so be it, I just thought since it was here it made sense to include Huffer as well. Just give it a some time, maybe a week, before deleting just the Huffer part so more than 3-4 users can comment. -- [[User:69.182.245.28|69.182.245.28]] 03:44, 16 July 2007 (UTC)<div id="wikia-credits"><br /><br /><small>From [http://transformers.wikia.com Teletraan I: The Transformers Wiki], a [http://www.wikia.com Wikia] wiki.</small></div>

Huffer was part of the original crew of ''[[Ark]]''-based Autobots who crashed on Earth four million years ago. In 1984, he awoke and was reformatted into a mini semi truck cab. An engineer and not a warrior, Huffer loathed combat and hated being stationed on Earth as he longed to return to Cybertron. [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]] would often have to motivate Huffer, reminding him to remain courageous in the long fight. During one of the first engagements on Earth, where the Autobots attempted to stop the Decepticons from attacking an off-shore oil rig, Huffer was trapped in the debris. [[Brawn (G1)|Brawn]] came to his rescue, cutting Huffer loose from the wreckage.

Prime was ever accident-prone, though, and after being [[Heavy_Metal_War|beaten down by Megatron]] and again struggling to transform, Huffer was helpful enough to tow Prime's trailer back to the ''Ark''.

When [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]] authorized [[Wheeljack (G1)|Wheeljack]] and [[Ratchet (G1)|Ratchet]] to build robot dinosaurs, Huffer insisted that this was a waste of time. After the [[Dinobot (G1)|Dinobots]] were completed and unveiled, Huffer remarked, "Dino''bots''? I thought you were supposed to make Dino''saurs''!" and laughed. This was followed by an awkward silence.

Though his death was never depicted, Huffer's grave is later mentioned amongst those of the other Autobots who died during the attack on [[Autobot City]] aboard their interstellar mausoleum. Huffer was a part of the crew onboard the ''[[Ark]]'' when it crashed into [[Earth]] four million years ago while clearing an asteroid in the path of Cybertron.

He was one of many Transformers captured and reprogrammed by arms dealer [[Lazarus|Adam 'Lazarus' Rook]] for lease to terrorist organisations and shady governments requiring brutal military might. Fortunately, Autobots under the command of Optimus Prime repaired and re-reprogrammed Huffer and the remaining captive Autobots. Immediately, they were put to work on fighting Megatron's metallic virus which had spread deep into Canadian territory. Huffer was seen to be very gung-ho about starting the blasting process when Wheeljack cautioned the group that the anti-virus requires converting their own interal energy, and he needed complete commitment from them if his plan was to suceed. {{Storylink|Prime Directive, Part 5}}

Soon, the Canadian military arrived. Unfortunately, due to the recent attacks by both enslaved Autobots and Decepticons under the command of Rook, the Canadians attempted to stop the Autobots doing what they percieved to be an attack on their soil. When Wheeljack tied to explain what they were doing (in a rather agressive manner), the Canadians soldiers panicked and fired upon the Autobots. Huffer was blasted by a tank shell while trying to aid the fallen Wheeljack. {{Storylink|Prime Directive, Part 6}}
War's pretty cool, after all, especially if they involve those [[Decepticon|new-fangled flying robots]]. Maybe someday he'll get to meet them...?

==Fiction==
===Animated continuity===
:''Voice actor:'' [[Corey Burton]] (US), ? (Japan)
Nine million years ago, near the end of [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron's]] Golden Age, it was Dion's job to haul energy and supplies in and out of the dock in which he and his best friend worked. There were murmurs of attacks from new, flying robots, but Dion didn't worry -- if a war were coming, that's what they had [[Guardian robot]]s for.

[[Image:Dionvehicle.jpg|left|thumb|250px|Cybertron's "Golden Age" was a pretty literal title, if you look.]]

Dion and Orion were honored to meet the leader of these enigmatic warriors, [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]], until Megatron revealed his plan to rob their dock of its [[energon]] stockpiles. After Megatron struck down Orion Pax and [[Elita One (G1)|Ariel]], Orion's girlfriend, Dion fought back valiantly, but he was also destroyed.

Time-traveling [[Aerialbot (G1)|Aerialbots]] carried Orion Pax to [[Alpha Trion]] for repairs, and Dion's friend was rebuilt into [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]]. Drones were sent back also to retrieve Ariel, but Dion's ultimate fate is uncertain.
{{-}}
==Who is Dion?==
[[Image:Dionrobot.jpg|right|thumb|150px|Uncertain identity ain't nothin' a few fanwanks can't solve.]]
Orion Pax and Ariel were rebuilt into Optimus Prime and [[Elita One (G1)|Elita One]], respectively, so many fans have speculated that Dion was also rebuilt into a familiar character. However, there are no hints within the episode itself, other than Dion was Orion's best friend. Regardless, the most popular suggestions are [[Ironhide (G1)|Ironhide]], [[Ultra Magnus (G1)|Ultra Magnus]] and [[Huffer (G1)|Huffer]].

(Dion's distinctive colour scheme had been seen earlier, however - on a member of Alpha Trion and Elita One's resistance/commando squad. The character never speaks nor is spoken to, but ''does'' have ties to two characters from Dion's past. Of course, the Autobot is likely female, which raises other questions altogether.)

Some believe the debate is irrelevant, believing Dion most likely dead and inconsequential, and possibly a casualty that hit close to home in Optimus Prime's early years as Autobot leader. After all, no specific mention is made of him in the episode after he dies, but Ariel is mentioned repeatedly. (Plus, his name can be read as "Dyin'," which may have been an intentional clue.)

===Huffer===
Huffer is considered a pontntial candidate for Dion for a number of reasons. Firstly and most obvious, the two share a very similar color scheme. Also, like Dion, Huffer is a reluctant warrior and would have rather leave the fighting to others. Lasty both Dion and Huffer have similar [[Alternate mode|alt modes]], Dion transforms into a cybertronian truck and Huffer, like Optimus Prime, into a semi truck cab. Prime has even been known to entrust Huffer in towing his [[Combat Deck|trailer]] when he was unable to do it himself.

===Ironhide===
Ironhide could easily be Optimus Prime's oldest friend, and so he would seem like a good fit.

===Ultra Magnus===
Ultra Magnus is a popluar suggestion because his cab turns into a white version of Optimus Prime, and so it would stand to reason that if Alpha Trion rebuilt both of them, they would have similar designs. It's unlikely, however, that the writers of the episode could possibly have had Ultra Magnus in mind, as several writers have stated in interviews that they did not write any episodes with the upcoming movie and third season in mind.

In later years, various hints and references in subsequent Transformers stories have inferred that Dion was indeed Ultra Magnus. In the [[Robots in Disguise]] animated series, it's stated that [[Alpha Trion]] built both Optimus Prime and Ultra Magnus, a likely nod to the original episode. And in the [[Dreamwave]] comics continuity, Ultra Magnus leads [[Security Team Dion]], another nod. However, both of these easter eggs take place in different continuities from the animated series, so they are not directly relevant.

'''Dion''' and his best friend [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Orion Pax]] are earnest dock workers. His is a simple life of manual labor, and he does not give a second thought to the war that may be brewing around him. War's pretty cool, after all, especially if they involve those [[Decepticon|new-fangled flying robots]]. Maybe someday he'll get to meet them...?

===Animated continuity===

==Who is Dion?==

===Huffer===

===Ironhide===
Ironhide could easily be Optimus Prime's oldest friend, and so he would seem like a good fit.

===Ultra Magnus===
