Dirt Boss
:Dirt Boss is a Mini-Con from the Armada portion of the Unicron Trilogy continuity family.

Filthy both physically and verbally, Dirt Boss intentionally skips maintenance checkups to keep his engine loud and misfiring, despite the risks this poses to him. Foul-mouthed and foul-smelling, he enjoys shocking and annoying those around him. Few can stand to be around him for any length of time; even his Race Mini-Con Team allies, who are likely the only ones who willingly spend any time with him at all, occasionally need to just get away.

And yet, Dirt Boss might actually be the smartest of the team, with extensive knowledge of high-level physics and entropy studies. Not that he ever really looks for a useful application for this information... but it certainly does give some insight into his attitude.

Dirt Boss combines with the rest of the Race Mini-Con Team to form the Skyboom Shield.

:Japanese name: Drift

Fiction
Armada cartoon
Dirt Boss was one of the first two Mini-Con panels belonging to the Race Team that were captured by the Decepticons. Overmatch Conspiracy He finally came on-line when the Decepticons gathered all three panels, and joined with Downshift and Mirage to form the Skyboom Shield under Megatron's control. Reinforcement

In the next battle, Megatron assembled both the Air Defense Team and the Race Team into the two most powerful weapons in the universe. Armed with both the Star Saber and the Skyboom Shield, he toyed with Optimus Prime until his overconfidence caused him to lose his grip on the Shield. Prime's Mini-Con partner Sparkplug then "locked on" to the Skyboom Shield and brought it under Prime's control, thwarting Megatron's killing strike with the Saber and balancing the powers between the two sides. Decisive Battle

Because the Skyboom Shield was in such demand by the Autobots to protect them from the Star Saber (and later the Requiem Blaster), Dirt Boss and the Race Team appeared quite infrequently as individuals. After Starscream and Jetfire rescued Firebot from Mars, Dirt Boss was among the Mini-Cons who welcomed the new arrival to the Autobots. Mars (episode) Later, Dirt Boss and the Race Team went for a walk with the kids to catch some fresh air. Unfortunately, their little stroll happened just as Billy and Fred reported that Thrust had met with Starscream. Squidhead had asked for the Skyboom Shield Mini-Cons as collateral for letting Starscream back into the Decepticons, so their sudden disappearance from the base didn't look too good for the former Decepticon. The Autobots' distrust for Starscream in part led to his decision to take Thrust up on his offer, and so even after Hot Shot uncovered the kids and the Race Team and cleared his name, Starscream stole the Skyboom Shield for Megatron and returned to the Decepticons. Crack

Dirt Boss and the Race Team had little time to act as individuals after that, remaining powerlinxed as the Skyboom Shield while the Decepticons used the shield as one-third of the Hydra Cannon, before it was stolen by Thrust and used to provide power to the heart of Unicron. Mirage, Dirt Boss and Downshift reawakened as individuals with the help of High Wire and the Street Action Team, who had journeyed to Unicron's core with Optimus Prime, Galvatron and the Earth children to grant the super-weapon Mini-Cons their freedom. Origin Dirt Boss fled Unicron aboard the Autobot Jetfire just before the Chaos-Bringer was finally destroyed. Mortal Combat

Dreamwave Armada comic
Dirt Boss was painfully cut open and altered by the Decepticons so that they could draw out his power for their own use. Dreamwave Armada issue 1 He was among the Mini-Cons who escaped from them and ended up on Earth's moon under the command of Dualor. Dreamwave Armada issue 9 However, the Decepticons eventually found them and attacked their moonbase, forcing Dirt Boss and the others to abandon it. Dreamwave Armada issue 11 After escaping to Earth, he and the other Race Team members joined the Autobots. They were among the reinforcements sent to Alaska after the Adventure Team got into trouble with Thrust and Cyclonus. Dirt Boss and his companions found that Thrust had already been defeated, but Cyclonus was still up and going, and their attempts to fight him were not too successful. Dreamwave Armada issue 13

Later, the Race Team joined the rest of the Earthbound Mini-Cons in traveling back to Cybertron, which was under attack by Unicron. They were presumably part of the Mini-Con Matrix ceremony at the Loop, which caused Unicron some major damage. The End

Panini Armada comics
Alongside Mirage, Dirt Boss was captured by Thrust during the early days of the Mini-Con kidnappings. The two escaped and joined Dualor, who had devised a plan to kill Megatron. Panini Armada issue 9

Cybertron toy bios
Dirt Boss was sent to Velocitron under the "protection" of Red Alert, in order to split the Road Assault Team up to make it harder for Megatron to steal the entire Team and re-assemble the Skyboom shield.

Meanwhile, an alternate-universe version of Dirt Boss fell through a rip in space-time and landed on Earth. He was found by Landmine, who took the grimy Mini-Con under his wing. They probably get along great together.
He also unfolds to form the middle portion of the Skyboom shield with his teammates Downshift and Mirage. He was normally only available as part of the complete Race Mini-Con Team set. The complete Team was also included as bonus add-ons with the Max-Cons Scavenger and Predacon (though what retail chain offered these is unknown at this time).
Notes
* Hasbro copy writer Forest Lee confirms that the Cybertron Tiny Tins exclusives were originally planned with two different Race Team decos in mind, hence the backstory involving one version of the Team being from an alternate universe and the Tins' decos showing the Mini-Cons in silhouette rather than the normal full-color images. He could not confirm what the then-chosen decos were, however, but it seems likely they were re-packs of the two schemes from Armada, given the use of "Road Assault Team".

* The Race Team are the only one of the three "legendary Mini-Con weapon" Teams to be released in all three chapters of the Unicron Trilogy.
Payload is the muscle of the Space Mini-Con Team, but people often forget that he's considerably smarter than most other robots out there. He doesn't really let this get to him, however. In fact, it seems one of the few things that can wear down Payload's temper is his teammate Sky Blast. He considers the youth a close friend, but one whose impulsive, act-before-thinking nature can really grind his gears, to the point where it could be the time of clobbering.
Armada cartoon
The Autobots and Decepticons each detected Payload's Mini-Con panel on a deserted island, and proceeded to do battle in the area. Detection Payload was eventually activated by his Space Mini-Con Team partner, Sky Blast, who called for the three of them to activate and join together as the Requiem Blaster. They assembled for Optimus Prime and fired a massive blast into the ocean as he fell from a great height, creating enough kickback to slow his descent safely. Desperate

Payload and his teammates briefly ran away from the Autobots, because they didn't want to be used for combat. After Optimus Prime rescued them from Thrust, he promised the Mini-Cons they would only join the battles against the Decepticons if they desired it -- no Autobots would force them to fight. Runaway

True to his word, Optimus Prime left Payload and the others back at headquarters when the Autobots were called into battle against the Decepticons, with Smokescreen watching over them. The battle was only a lure for the Requiem Blaster, however, and Megatron and Thrust soon doubled back to attack the undermanned Autobot headquarters. Smokescreen fought bravely to defend the Space Mini-Con Team, but Megatron managed to subvert their programming and powerlinx with the trio, forcing them to form the Requiem Blaster and obliterate their Autobot protector. Sacrifice

Payload and the Space Team had little time to act as individuals after that, remaining powerlinxed as the Requiem Blaster as Megatron's personal weapon, and later when the Decepticons used the gun as one-third of the Hydra Cannon, before it was stolen by Thrust and used to provide power to the heart of Unicron. Sky Blast, Payload and Astroscope reawakened as individuals with the help of High Wire and the Street Action Team, who had journeyed to Unicron's core with Optimus Prime, Galvatron and the Earth children to grant the super-weapon Mini-Cons their freedom. Origin Payload fled Unicron aboard the Autobot Jetfire just before the Chaos-Bringer was finally destroyed. Mortal Combat

Dreamwave Armada comic
Payload was captured by the Decepticons during the attack on his hometown, Mini-Con village D10. Dreamwave Armada issue 1 Following their escape from the Decepticons, he and many other Mini-Cons ended up on Earth's moon, where they constructed a fortress and lived peacefully for a million years. Dreamwave Armada issue 9 He was standing around with Dualor, Mirage and his team when the fortress came under attack from the Decepticons. Dualor ordered Astroscope to launch the orbital mine with the "special payload", which was luckily Rad White and not actually Payload. Dreamwave Armada issue 10 As the fortress's defenses failed them, Payload and the Space Team started to pack up their belongings and make their way to the escape pods. Sparkplug convinced them to stay a bit longer in order to save Rad before the orbital mine exploded. Dreamwave Armada issue 11

After leaving the wrecked moonbase, the Space Team joined the Autobots and helped them track down an escape pod that had crashed in Alaska. Dreamwave Armada issue 13 They were stationed at the Autobase when an alternate-universe Optimus Prime appeared. Worlds Collide, Part 1 of 4 This was followed by a visit from an alternate-universe Mini-Con named Over-Run, so Payload and his teammates had their work cut out for them doing research on the "space/time horizon". Worlds Collide, Part 2 of 4 With their own Optimus Prime missing somewhere out in the multiverse, Payload and Sky Blast sent a probe into a space bridge to scan various alternate realities in search of him. As the Autobase was under attack by more interdimensional travelers at the same time, Payload was getting a tad stressed. Worlds Collide, Part 3 of 4 After scanning almost 76 million different realities, he and Sky Blast were finally able to find the coordinates to Optimus Prime, allowing Over-Run to bring him back. Worlds Collide, Part 4 of 4

Prime returned with the news that Unicron was on his way to Cybertron, and in response, all Mini-Cons gathered to fight back against the planet eater. Payload and the rest of his race traveled to the Loop on Cybertron, where they channeled their energies through the Mini-Con Matrix and heavily injured Unicron. The End

: For their Japanese X-Dimension release, the entire Space Team was redecoed in shades of green and brown... an oddly terrestrial color scheme for a space-based group.
: Payload was sold as an individual in the second series of Kabaya "Change Micron" candy toys in Japan. This mold is based on the original, but is in fact an entirely new mold with numerous minor sculpting differences. It's likely this toy is also not gang-molded with his teammates like the original. The most notable differences between the Hasbro/Takara Payload and the Kabaya version is the latter has darker-blue plastic for the head and torso, plus lacks all of the paint applications on his legs.

: The Space Team was placed in a bubble attached to the top of normal Armada Jetfire packages as a bonus-buy in Target stores for a limited time in the US.
*Ultra Magnus (Ultra, 2004)

: The Space Team was redecoed and packaged in with Energon Ultra Magnus. Magnus was originally going to be packed with a new-characters redeco of the Street Speed Mini-Con Team (Brakedown, Clocker and Override, no team name given), but this was changed towards the last minute. Exactly why the change to the Space Team was made has yet to be determined.

: The toy was an "eleventh hour" redeco, along with Rapid Run and Treadbolt. As such, their packaging photography had to be completed before properly painted samples could be obtained, so the box-back photos use the original decos. Magnus's box also shows the original Street Speed Team rather than the Space Team.

: Magnus, Rapid Run and Treadbolt were produced in smaller numbers than the rest of the normal retail Energon line (reportedly only about 10,000 units each) and were only available in the initial shipments of the line. Magnus's shipment in particular saw a very limited release, quickly replaced with the second assortment in the US, making him hard to come by. Magnus later showed up in much larger numbers in Australia, Canada and some European markets, and he was made available in Japan through e-Hobby with the box altered via a black and white sticker, reflecting the Space Team's addition. The back of the European release's box was further corrected, as the Mini-Cons shown were changed when more languages were added.
: The Space Team was part of a Wal-Mart exclusive Energon-series six-pack, in their original Armada deco. They came with the "Road Assault" version of the Race Team.
* Test-shots of a slightly-altered Space Team have popped up from various sources. It's possible this was intended to be a mid-series deco-change for the team, though it looks unfinished at best. The team has the exact same paint application layouts in the exact same colors as the original. Payload's black plastics turned purple, while his medium-blue went to black.

* The Space Team was also slated to be redecoed as pack-in partners for Universe Spacewarp. When the toy was saved from limbo by Fun Publications, they intended to keep the Mini-Con partners, but were told by Takara that the Armada-era Team molds were too worn-out to use again. As such, the team was replaced by a redeco of the Giant Planet Mini-Con Team when "Astrotrain" finally saw release.

Rollbar was present at the team meeting when the Autobots decided what to do with the Mini-Cons who formed the Requiem Blaster. Runaway

When Scavenger needed to teach Hot Shot a lesson about teamwork and leadership after Optimus Prime's death, he powerlinxed with Rollbar and used their Dozer Cannon to drive home the point. Remorse As the Autobots prepared to launch into space for Cybertron aboard the Axalon, Rollbar was among the many Mini-Cons who boarded for the mission. Depart

Linkage mini-comics
Rollbar arrived on Earth as a Mini-Con panel stored inside Redline's chest. After being activated, he joined Stella Holley and the Super Stunt Team on a mission to India, where they had tracked the landing of a spaceship. While Rollbar and Flat-Out were checking out the ship, however, the Mini-Cons were attacked by Unicron's servants, the Speed Chaser Team. Linkage Part 3 While Flat-Out joined the battle, Rollbar powerlinked with the owner of the spaceship, Scavenger. Powering up his dozer cannon, Scavenger drove off the Chaser Team. By bonding with Scavenger, however, Rollbar had activated his servility program, and he left with the bulk instead of his friends. Linkage Part 4

Later, Rollbar and High Wire met with Servo atop Mount Astrogate to discuss what the Super Stunt Team had discovered since Rollbar's departure. Linkage Part 8

Dreamwave comics continuity
Rollbar was the leader of Mini-Con village C52, the last Mini-Con settlement the Decepticons attacked before moving on the Autobot Capital of Cyber City.

Receiving advance warning of the Decepticon attack from Leader-1, Rollbar put Incinerator in charge of hastily constructing an energon dome defense and assigned Sparkplug to watch the Northern Quadrant for the expected Decepticon advance. Sparkplug was thrown from his position right into Rollbar, who, with the assistance of Longarm, activated the energon dome.

Rollbar was captured by Cyclonus, who bypassed the energon dome by burrowing under it. He, along with the rest of the residents of Mini-Con village C52 (except Sparkplug), was transported to the Decepticons' secret base for mecha-sectioning. They were subsequently freed by Sparkplug and the Air Defense Team and escaped Cybertron. Dreamwave Armada issue 1

He later spent time aboard the bridge of the Mini-Con starship while it was floating in space. Dreamwave Armada issue 3

On Earth Rollbar awoke with Jolt, Longarm and Liftor and was for a time based out of a human junkyard while foraging for technology to repair their radio and contact their fellow Mini-Cons. Rollbar had a misadventure on one such foraging mission, falling asleep inside a car-crusher, not realizing its function.

Monitoring human television channels, Rollbar's group learned Megatron was in pursuit of Sparkplug and the Street Action Mini-Con Team. Rollbar morosely agreed to be persuaded by Jolt, unenthusiastically acknowledging they had to try to rescue them. Rollbar suggested powerlinking with the Autobots, and was subsequently partnered with Scavenger. Dreamwave Armada issue 5

Rollbar was among the Mini-Cons gathered at the Black Mesa in Arizona before transporting to Cybertron to participate in Over-Run's matrix-ceremony at the Halls of Justice to defeat Unicron. He held hands with Grindor and Longarm when the Mini-Cons united to unleash Matrix energy against Unicron. The End
Rollbar was among the Mini-Cons onboard the piece of the Mini-Con ship that crashed on the moon. Millions of years later, he was reactivated by a probe sent by Sparkplug, and soon afterwards met Scavenger and became his partner. Panini Armada issue 6
Armada cartoon continuity
Spiral's Mini-Con storage panel was detected underground, near a major highway under construction. Both Autobot and Decepticon braved battle and heavy traffic to retrieve the panel. The Decepticons, thanks to the digging strength of Scavenger (who was in reality an Autobot agent undercover) came close to obtaining it, but the arrival of the mysterious Sideways tipped the battle in favor of the Autobots, and with Hot Shot's newfound skill with the Star Saber, the Decepticons were forced to retreat and Spiral was saved.

Back at the Autobot base, while Billy was getting dirt-bike rides on Sideways, Spiral offered to give a ride to Fred, who was moping about missing all the fun. Fred accepted, but quickly regretted his decision and commenced with the whining. Gale

Later, after the Decepticons got ahold of the Star Saber, Spiral was seen among the Mini-Cons recently captured by them. How they acquired possession of her from the Autobots is unknown. Conspiracy Spiral, Backtrack and an unknown Mini-Con were assigned to <s>repair</s> "tune up" Megatron following a close encounter with the Requiem Blaster. Runaway

On the moon, Spiral and the other Mini-Cons were put to work by Megatron constructing a new space cruiser. When the Autobots lay siege to the Decepticon base, Perceptor sought out the Mini-Cons and tried to get them to accompany him to freedom. Their servility programming was too strong to overcome at first. After Spiral and the others saw Perceptor valiantly risking his life against Megatron, however, the Mini-Cons shrugged off the chains of their oppression, and fled to the warp gate chamber where the Autobots transported them to safety on Earth. Rescue

As the Autobots prepared their new spaceship to chase the Decepticons back to Cybertron, Spiral and the united Mini-Cons were seen helping with the construction work. Remorse Spiral and the Mini-Cons all chose to willingly follow the Autobots into space aboard the Axalon, fighting alongside them against the Decepticons. Depart
Spiral and the rest of the Street Speed Team were among the Mini-Cons who lived on Earth's moon following their escape from Cybertron. Dreamwave Armada issue 9 Unfortunately, Dualor brought the Earth-based Mini-Cons there, which also brought the Decepticons. While the moonbase was under attack, Spiral and the others escaped in a rocket-pod. Dreamwave Armada issue 11 The pod crashed in northern Alaska, leaving the Street Speed Team, Inferno and Comettor deactivated. Fire & Ice Ultimately the Autobots were successful in retrieving the pod, and Spiral was reactivated and brought to the Autobot base. Worlds Collide, Part 1 of 4

Spiral later returned to Cybertron and helped Over-Run activate the Mini-Con Matrix, which dealt a critical blow to Unicron. The End

Panini Armada comics
In the early stages of the war, Spiral was among the Mini-Cons who supported Dualor's plan to kill Megatron by luring him to the Autobot headquarters and blowing it up. Panini Armada issue 9
Cybertron toy bios
The Street Speed Team were sent to Velocitron as advance scouts for the Autobots. The planet's mass of winding high-speed tracks really appealed to them, to the point where they started having a hard time tearing themselves from the road to get their missions underway.
He's also seen by Twirl as a father (not a father figure, literally a father), and of all the Mini-Cons, he is perhaps the one to whom Stella Holley is closest.

Man, he gets all the chicks.
Redline and his teammates ejected from the crashing Exodus in an escape pod that landed in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Washington. They lay dormant for centuries until the Mini-Cons were reactivated due to the actions of Rad White and Carlos Lopez. Upon reactivation, the trio crawled onto the shore and took new alternate forms suited to the environment. They were suddenly pursued by a pair of Fixer Bugs and escaped into a parking garage.
Flat-Out is the most combat-tested and proficient member of the Super Stunt Mini-Con Team. He also seems to be the oldest and wisest, and is a very close friend to the Team's leader Redline. But it's not all seriousness with him, as he makes time to poke a little fun at Servo from time to time. Stalwart and brave, he's determined to win Mini-Cons their freedom from the whims of their dark creator.
Legends of the Microns: Linkage
After the Mini-Cons were activated on Earth, Flat-Out and the Super Stunt Team began operating in California. They were attacked by mysterious flying "Fixer Bugs" on the city streets, and fled into an underground parking garage. Working with what was available, Flat-Out and Servo helped Redline powerlink with a nearby car, evolving a turbo cannon out of the hood to annihilate their attackers. That car belonged to their new human friend, Stella Holley. Linkage Part 1 Redline created a psychic link with Stella so that she could understand their binary language, and the Mini-Cons took refuge in their new friend's basement. Linkage Part 2

In the Deccan plateau of India, the Super Stunt Team, Stella, and their recovered ally Rollbar checked out a bulk-sized starship, hoping to salvage technology from it. As Flat-Out and Rollbar moved closer to examine the ship, the evil Speed Chaser Team attacked the others with their Fixer Bugs. Linkage Part 3 Flat-Out came to the rescue, using his arm-blasters and repulsor unit to engage in aerial target practice. It was still a close fight, however, until the bulk Scavenger emerged from his ship and powerlinked with Rollbar, using their combined firepower to drive off the evil Mini-Cons. He agreed to leave his ship for Flat-Out and the others, providing they forgot they ever saw him. It was a good deal, except that Rollbar abandoned his fellow Mini-Cons to journey with Scavenger. Linkage Part 4 Afterwards, the Super Stunt Team explained the Mini-Con servility program to Stella, and how their will can be subsumed by their larger partners. Flat-Out mentioned that he and Redline were powerlinked with Decepticons for 100 years before learning to override the program and assert their independence. Linkage Part 5

Next, Redline and Flat-Out tried to intervene when the Speed Chaser Team attacked their old allies, Falcia and Combusta. Those two were saved, but the Mini-Con panel containing Falcia's friend Twirl was damaged in the firefight. Linkage Part 6 Flat-Out assisted Redline and Falcia in entering the Linkage to restore Twirl to life. They were successful in guiding Twirl's soul into a new Earth mode. Linkage Part 7

As Redline continued his efforts to upgrade the Mini-Cons' spark frames, Flat-Out witnessed the arrival of Ravenus with Stella and Falcia. Linkage Part 9 Ravenous's threat became clear when he forcibly powerlinked with Servo and Twirl. Stella got an idea and retrieved her car, giving Flat-Out and Falcia something to powerlink with themselves. The two Mini-Cons converted the vehicle into a fighting exo-suit for Stella, driving off Ravenous. Linkage Part 10 As the Mini-Cons learned that Ravenous possessed the devastating Doomstone, they took off after the fleeing bulk. Flat-Out and the others upgraded their spark frames using Redline's new process. After disconnecting from him, however, Twirl revealed that Ravenous was really an Autobot underneath Unicron's manipulations. Linkage Part 11 After Redline ended Ravenous's threat by absorbing the Doomstone into himself, Flat-Out and the Mini-Cons left for deep space to confront Unicron. Linkage Part 12 Out in the vacuum of space, the Super Stunt Team battled Midship and the other Mini-Cons loyal to Unicron. Linkage Part 13
Midship has anger issues. He's one of Unicron's many hunters, and he seems to really enjoy his job. He's incredibly loud, rude, and violent, a stark contrast to his teammate Top Gear's quieter form of menace. You can't help but hear Midship coming, but even so, it's probably too late anyway.
In the process of hunting down "renegade" Mini-Cons who did not serve Unicron, Midship and Top Gear tracked the Super Stunt Mini-Con Team to India. Grabbing Redline by the neck, he began taunting him and his friends for believing that the Mini-Cons could ever find peace. Linkage Part 3 Redline resisted and stunned Midship by kicking him in the face and shooting him. Before he could strike back, he and the rest of the Speed Chaser Mini-Con Team were chased off by Scavenger. Linkage Part 4 In the form of the Magnawing, the Speed Chaser Team later assaulted Falcia in the skies above Seattle, but retreated again when faced with Combusta. Linkage Part 6

As part of a new plan, Sideways later presented Midship and the others with a large capsule. Linkage Part 7 In Magnawing mode, they towed the capsule to the Super Stunt Team, where they revealed that it contained the corrupted Autobot Ravenus. Linkage Part 9 After Ravenus captured Servo and Twirl, the Speed Chaser Team ordered him to withdraw alongside them. Linkage Part 10 They were subsequently blasted aside by a powered-up Redline. Linkage Part 11 In the aftermath, they watched as Mini-Cons woke and gathered from places all over Earth, and Midship ordered the Aqua Raider Mini-Con Team to withdraw as well. Linkage Part 12

The Speed Chaser Team were among the loyal Mini-Cons who defended Unicron during his battle against the entire population of Cybertron. During the battle, Midship clashed with Redline again, calling him and his allies "diseased cells" that only served to be exterminated. Odds are he lost the battle and his life. Linkage Part 13
