When Vector Prime discovered that [[Unicron]]'s destruction had resulted in a black hole that devoured both Space and Time, as guardian he set forth to fix it, using lost artifacts of a previous age: The Omega Lock, and four Cyber-Planet Keys; forged from the spark of Primus himself. Of course, the fact that these were lost presented certain problems for him. As a result, he returned to Cyberton in an attempt to enlist some help, and encountered the Decepticons, who tricked Vector Prime into giving the Planet Map to them. Vector Prime was vital to the Autobot cause, as he could create small-scale [[Space Bridge|Space Bridges]] with his sword, as well as force fields with the aid of his Universal Cyber-key. On one occasion, when Megatron killed Coby, Bud, and Lori Vector Prime turned back time, although this caused him great strain. Later, he would find the Omega Lock in the spaceship [[Atlantis]], and get it back.

In a heroic sacrifice Vector Prime used every last drop of energon in him to send the Autobots a week back in time, to before they arrived on [[Gigantion,]] sadly this incredible strain killed the guardian of time, but not before he could make his final good-byes to the Autobots. As the ancient Autobot's spirit lived on in the afterlife; providing much needed guidance (and his sword ''Rhilsing'') to Optimus Prime in his time of need

He's been around long enough to earn a name for himself and a place in [[Optimus Prime (UT)|Optimus Prime]]'s entourage, but he's still too young to know when he's in over his head. In other words, he's blunt, overconfident, and naive, yet brave and honorable. With time and experience, Prime believes, he could make an excellent leader, and has appointed him to his command structure accordingly. He's got the goods, but he just needs to pay attention for more than five seconds. Until that day, Hot Shot's likely response to most anything is, "Yeah yeah, like, whatever."

When [[Optimus_Prime_(UT)|Optimus Prime]] received the [[Mini-Con]] distress signal, Hot Shot was one of two soldiers he brought with him to Earth to investigate. He soon scanned the form of an Earth sports car and partnered with the Mini-Con [[Jolt (UT) (Armada)|Jolt]].

When all three Mini-Cons that combine to form the [[Star_Saber_(UT)|Star Saber]] sword were collected, Optimus assigned them to Hot Shot. The Autobot was young, inexperienced, and hotheaded, so the great advantage the Star Saber granted him went straight to his ego. With the sword, he was nearly unbeatable on the battlefield until a Decepticon named [[Scavenger_UT|Scavenger]] taught him the hard way that power without skill was useless against an experienced opponent. Hot Shot's naivete was his downfall. The double-agent [[Sideways_(UT)|Sideways]] tricked Hot Shot out of the sword, and Hot Shot was beaten nearly to death by his frustrated opponents.

Later, Hot Shot was visited by a friend from his past. Years ago, on Cybertron, he and the Autobot [[Wheeljack_(UT)|Wheeljack]] were amidst a firey battlefield blaze. Wheeljack was incapacitated, so Hot Shot left him, promising to get help. However, his Autobot comrades would not let him return to help his friend. Instead, Wheeljack was rescued by [[Megatron_(UT)|Megatron]] and swore vengeance against Hot Shot and the Autobots.

When Optimus Prime sacrificed himself to save Earth, Hot Shot was put in command. Hot Shot declined to take the Matrix of Leadership, which marked the beginning of a very unassertive and indecisive administration. It was also short, as Optimus Prime returned to life after not too long.

The Decepticons managed to take over Cybertron. [[Unicron]], the Chaos Bringer, was looming over their planet, but [[Megatron_(UT)|Galvatron]] (previously Megatron) would not listen to Optimus Prime's pleas to unite their two factions against him. Hot Shot decided to take matters into his own hands and fought his way through the Decepticon base and countless Decepticon warriors to reach Galvatron and reason with him. If it were not for Wheeljack's intervention, he might not have survived. Under the Autobot/Decepticon alliance, Wheeljack's hatred of Hot Shot seemed to soften, and the two learned to trust each other again.

After the destruction of Unicron and the defeat of Galvatron, Optimus Prime felt he had failed as Autobot Leader, and with the end of conflict between the two factions, he exhiled himself to parts unknown. Hot Shot and [[Jetfire_(UT)|Jetfire]] were left in charge of the Transformers.

During Energon, Hot Shot would find himself stationed on earth as the commander of Ocean City while Optimus Prime was away training new soldiers on Cybertron. Although somewhat less headstrong, Hot Shot was still a young soldier with a large mass of responsiblity placed on his shoulders.

Hot Shot often clashed with Kicker and Ironhide, the latter seeing Hot Shot as his idol. Hot Shot was often paired with Inferno as his Powerlink partner, and also Powerlinked with others as the series progressed. It wasn't until the arrival of Hot Shot's former commander and idol, Rodimus, that he would question his own allegiences. Not moved by Rodimus sudden side-change to aiding Unicron's resurrection, Hot Shot threatened to open fire, only to be struck down by Rodimus. After an incident involving Rodimus saving Hot Shot's life, he would regret his quick judgement in shame. The relationship between Hot Shot and Rodimus was eventually restored and they become Powerlink partners.

Throughout the series, Hot Shot would serve as a close soldier to Optimus Prime, surviving many battles on Cybertron and other worlds. Along with several other Autobots, Hot Shot was injured when the reborn Unicron destroyed a fledgling planet in the reformed Q-system. Hot Shot was reformatted into a slick silver body along with his Autobot comrades. He would eventually merge his spark with that of Optimus Supreme and his partners in the final battle with Galvatron. Hot Shot, like the others, was restored safely at the end of the Energon series.

When [[Unicron]]'s destruction resulted in a black hole that threatened the Transformers' home planet of Cybertron, Optimus Prime ordered the planet to retreat into hiding on Earth. Hot Shot took the form of a blue Earth sports car.

This form came in handy when Optimus reassigned Hot Shot and [[Red_Alert_(UT)|Red Alert]] to search for [[Velocitron]]'s [[Cyber Planet Key]]. He quickly developed a competitive bond with [[Override_(UT) (Autobot)|Override]], the leader of Velocitron. Against Red Alert's warnings, Hot Shot joined the Great Race. Hot Shot pushed himself beyond his means, almost to the point of destruction, but no matter how he tried, he could never defeat Override. The constant racing took a noticeable toll on his body. Was he really doing this to win the Key or just to prove to himself he was still the fastest in the galaxy?

Hot Shot was in big trouble when Optimus arrived on Velocitron and found out what he was up to. But Optimus Prime changed his mind when he realized that winning the race was the only way to win the Key. With the Autobots' full support and [[Coby]]'s help, Hot Shot won the Great Race and the Cyber Planet Key.

Later, he would be severely wounded when [[Megatron (UT)|Megatron]] used his Death Machine Gun on him, [[Scattorshot]], and [[Red_Alert_(UT)|Red Alert]]. Fortunately, the powers of Primus acting through the [[Omega Lock]] repaired him into '''Cybertron Defense Hot Shot.''' When the Cybertron Defense Team was sent on an advance mission to Cybertron, Hot Shot and the others had to fight their way through a legion of Scapmetals. Once Megatron arrived on Cybertron he was quickly defeated in a battle by the Cybertron Defense Team. Much later on Gigantion the Cybertron Defense Team was caught in Soundwave's smokescreen, but they managed to figure out the Decepticons mind games and defeat him.

After Override resigned from leadership of Velocitron in order to travel to a new world, Hot Shot won the race to determine who would be her successor, despite his bulky new body.

During Energon, Hot Shot would find himself stationed on earth as the commander of Ocean City while Optimus Prime was away training new soldiers on Cybertron. Although somewhat less headstrong, Hot Shot was still a young soldier with a large mass of responsiblity placed on his shoulders.

Hot Shot often clashed with Kicker and Ironhide, the latter seeing Hot Shot as his idol. Hot Shot was often paired with Inferno as his Powerlink partner, and also Powerlinked with others as the series progressed. It wasn't until the arrival of Hot Shot's former commander and idol, Rodimus, that he would question his own allegiences. Not moved by Rodimus sudden side-change to aiding Unicron's resurrection, Hot Shot threatened to open fire, only to be struck down by Rodimus. After an incident involving Rodimus saving Hot Shot's life, he would regret his quick judgement in shame. The relationship between Hot Shot and Rodimus was eventually restored and they become Powerlink partners.

Throughout the series, Hot Shot would serve as a close soldier to Optimus Prime, surviving many battles on Cybertron and other worlds. Along with several other Autobots, Hot Shot was injured when the reborn Unicron destroyed a fledgling planet in the reformed Q-system. Hot Shot was reformatted into a slick silver body along with his Autobot comrades. He would eventually merge his spark with that of Optimus Supreme and his partners in the final battle with Galvatron. Hot Shot, like the others, was restored safely at the end of the Energon series.

When [[Unicron]]'s destruction resulted in a black hole that threatened the Transformers' home planet of Cybertron, Optimus Prime ordered the planet to retreat into hiding on Earth. Hot Shot took the form of a blue Earth sports car.

This form came in handy when Optimus reassigned Hot Shot and [[Red_Alert_(UT)|Red Alert]] to search for [[Velocitron]]'s [[Cyber Planet Key]]. He quickly developed a competitive bond with [[Override_(UT) (Autobot)|Override]], the leader of Velocitron. Against Red Alert's warnings, Hot Shot joined the Great Race. Hot Shot pushed himself beyond his means, almost to the point of destruction, but no matter how he tried, he could never defeat Override. The constant racing took a noticeable toll on his body. Was he really doing this to win the Key or just to prove to himself he was still the fastest in the galaxy?

Hot Shot was in big trouble when Optimus arrived on Velocitron and found out what he was up to. But Optimus Prime changed his mind when he realized that winning the race was the only way to win the Key. With the Autobots' full support and [[Coby]]'s help, Hot Shot won the Great Race and the Cyber Planet Key.

Later, he would be severely wounded when [[Megatron (UT)|Megatron]] used his Death Machine Gun on him, [[Scattorshot]], and [[Red_Alert_(UT)|Red Alert]]. Fortunately, the powers of Primus acting through the [[Omega Lock]] repaired him into '''Cybertron Defense Hot Shot.''' When the [[Cybertron Defense Team]] was sent on an advance mission to [[Cybertron]], Hot Shot and the others had to fight thier way through a legion of [[Scrapmetal drones (UT)|Scapmetals.]] Once Megatron arrived on Cybertron he was quickly defeated in a battle by the Cybertron Defence Team. Much later on [[Gigantion]] the Cybertron Defence Team was caught in [[Soundwave (UT)|Soundwave's]] smokescreen, but they managed to figure out the Decepticons mind games and defeat him.

After Override resigned from leadership of Velocitron in order to travel to a new world, Hot Shot won the race to determine who would be her succeser, dispite his bulky new body.

After removing the wall, the Autobots found a cave full of dinosaur bones. The Autobots decided the idea of dinosaurs was interesting and researched the prehistoric beasts. Wheeljack and [[Ratchet (G1)|Ratchet]] asked Optimus Prime if they could build robot dinosaurs, and Prime agreed this was a good idea. Grimlock, [[Slag (G1)|Slag]], and [[Sludge (G1)|Sludge]] were built and unveiled to the Autobots, but the Dinobots were dimwitted and violent, and they attacked their makers. Grimlock blasted [[Teletraan-I]] with his fire-breath, damaging it. Optimus Prime decreed that the Dinobots ''must be destroyed''. However, Wheeljack convinced him instead to lock them away, and the trio were herded back into the cave and buried alive.

Later, the Decepticons took over a hydroelectric plant, but when the Autobots arrived to stop them, the Autobots were defeated and captured. Wheeljack, Ratchet, and [[Bumblebee (G1)|Bumblebee]], left behind at Autobot base to finish repairing Teletraan-I, decided to go against Optimus' orders and release the Dinobots, but not before upgrading their brains to be smarter and more obedient. After the Dinobots are reactivated, Wheeljack asks them to save their friends. Grimlock says he will obey... this time. They successfully attack the Decepticons and free the imprisoned Autobots. Optimus forgives Wheeljack, Ratchet, and Bumblebee for disobeying his orders and welcomes the victorious Dinobots back to the Autobots.

After a meteor surging with unknown energies struck the Earth, Optimus ordered the three Dinobots to guard it. He was so pleased with the Dinobots he asked Ratchet and Wheeljack to build two more. Meanwhile, Megatron was frustrated at the Dinobots' success, and sent [[Soundwave (G1)|Soundwave]] to probe them for potential weaknesses. Reading the Dinobots' minds, he discovered that Grimlock was arrogant and believed he would make a better leader than the weak Optimus Prime. Megatron decided to use this to his advantage, and approached them himself. He played to Grimlock's jealousy and agreed with him that the strongest should be leader. The Dinobots declared Optimus Prime their enemy.

Realizing the meteorite was due to explode, Optimus left to warn the Dinobots, but they attacked him. But instead of destroying him completely, Grimlock carried him to the Decepticons, who had stolen the meteorite during the battle. Megatron was angry that Optimus Prime was not destroyed, and Starscream suggested that despite Grimlock's arrogance, inside he was still compassionate. This enraged Grimlock. They were interrupted by the two new Dinobots, [[Snarl (G1)|Snarl]] and [[Swoop (G1)|Swoop]], whom Megatron ordered the original three Dinobots to attack. At the climax of the battle, the meteorite exploded, but Optimus Prime pushed Grimlock out of the way, saving him. Grimlock realized the error of his ways and the Dinobots forced the Decepticons into retreat. Grimlock apologized for his jealousy.

The Decepticons joined forces with [[Sub-Atlantica]] and staged a full-scale attack on [[Washington, D.C.]]. The Autobots were overwhelmed, forcing Wheeljack to call for the Dinobots' assistance. Grimlock expressed his frustration at being called whenever the Autobots were in over their heads. With their help, the Autobots were able to overturn the Decepticons' advance and plunge the city of Sub-Atlantica, burning, into the sea. This pattern of the Autobots' dependence on the Dinobots repeated when the artificial intelligence [[TORQ III]] turned machines against mankind. With every piece of help he and his troops gave, Grimlock was never slow to add a scathing remark about the inabilities of the Autobots. That said, he was not unwilling to admit the failings of his own troops, either, and willingly took them to the time-displaced "Dinobot Island," where they trained in the wilderness and helped stop a Decepticon raid on the prehistoric paradise.

The final straw for Grimlock came when he and the Dinobots were injured in a Decepticon trap at an airfield. Enraged, Grimlock refused to take orders from Optimus Prime any more, and led the Dinobots away from the Ark. When the Autobots began to suffer from Cybertonium deficiency, Spike Witwicky and his girlfriend Carly attempted to persuade the Dinobots - who continued to function perfectly, as they had been built on Earth without Cybertonium - to steal some of the mineral from a Decepticon shipment coming in from Cybertron. Grimlock instead opted to lead the Dinobots to Cybertron itself, where they were captured by [[Shockwave (G1)|Shockwave]] and put to work in the Cybertonium mines, until Spike and Carly rescued them. Brought back to Earth, the Dinobots agreed to follow Prime's order again - until such time as Grimlock didn't feel like it.

By the Earth year 2005, it seemed apparent that Grimlock had undergone some degree of a personality change, becoming more childish and petulant, rather than brutish and stubborn. Throughtout 2006, he regularly participated in missions with his fellow Autobots rather than the other Dinobots, battling on the planets of [[Chaar]], Goo, Dredd and Eurythma. He and [[Daniel Witwicky]] were transported to the sorcerous other-dimensional realm of Menonia, where Grimlock was duped into fighting on the side of the tyrannical [[Quintesson]], the Red Wizard, and later, he helped to sniff out the "dinosaur transform static" that implicated [[Trypticon]] in the theft of world monuments. Later in the year, when Decepticon leader [[Galvatron]] had Cybertron infused with function-inverting anti-electrons, a dose of the particles gave Grimlock super-intelligence. During a mission to [[Unicron]]'s disembodied head, where the Autobots were outmatched by the new Decepticon [[Terrorcons]], Grimlock used components of Unicron's head to construct the [[Technobots]] to battle them. Combined as Computron, the Technobots felt they could not match the Terrorcons, until Grimlock transferred his super-intelligence into Computron, reverting to his old self and allowing the Technobots to claim victory.

Grimlock's greatest victory came when he and a large number of other Transformers with animal transformations were summoned to a world at the centre of the galaxy by the ex-assistant of the ancient genius, [[Primacron]], creator of Unicron. The assistant had assembled these "Primitive" Transformers in the hope that their simple instincts could defeat Primacron's newest creation, [[Tornedron]], but one by one they fell to him, with Grimlock apparently crushed under [[Trypticon]]. Flint and the rest of Action Force tried to warn against this, and were quickly proven right when the Decepticons swooped in to retrieve and revive their fallen leader (or at least, the Transformer that they believed to be their leader).

"[[Operation: Carwash]]" was then launched, whereby a special team of experts led by '''D. R. Faireborn''' conducted secret inquiries while [[Jazz (G1)|Jazz]] investigated on his own.

D. R. Faireborn's inquiry led him to the [[Concurrence]], a group of villainous humans who seek to eventually rid the solar system of all Transformers. He also learned that the Concurrence had teamed up with the Decepticons to achieve their goal, and that they had used an advanced combination of [[Dr. Arkeville]]'s Hypno-chips, and [[Bombshell (g1)|Bombshell's]] cerebro-shells to brainwash innocent Binaltech Project scientists into reviving injured Decepticons for them. This information, he noted, should go straight to commander [[Ultra Magnus (G1)|Ultra Magnus]] at [[Metroplex (G1)|Autobot City]] as soon as possible, so that the mind control devices could be found and nullified.

Faireborn ended his transmitted report on an anxious note, worried that Concurrence agents would soon be on him. However, he made sure to remind the recipients to keep his cover story up - to tell his family that he'd be enjoying himself at the Lunar Colony for a little while longer.

During the evacuation of Cybertron, Landmine was attacked by [[Starscream (UT)|Starscream]] and was nearly flung into the black hole, only to be saved by a warp-gate from [[Vector Prime (UT)|Vector Prime]]'s sword.

Landmine ended up crashing on [[Earth]]. Injured in the crash, Landmine would be found by [[Coby Hansen|Coby]], [[Bud Hansen|Bud]] and [[Lori]]. After being patched up by Coby, Landmine took quite some time to recover, but remained eager to get back at Starscream. Landmine would ultimately get that chance when he tapped into Gigantion's [[Cyber Planet Key]] and grew to a gigantic size, he was able to finaly defeat Starscream before returning to his normal stature.

In the closing credit's montage Landmine is seen battiling Starscream, when his foe returns from the "Other Dimension."

Because there were so few Decepticons (only six or seven), and because they were a subset of the [[Predacon]] antagonists, they can almost be viewed as a [[subgroup]] rather than a proper faction. The ''exact'' origins of the Decepticon faction is a bit muddled. It is widely assumed, though never directly confirmed, that the movement was founded by [[Megatron (UT)|Megatron]]. Also, the enslavement of the power-enhancing [[Mini-Con]]s is considered to be the impetus to the Decepticons' rise to a massive multi-planet-spanning army, though at what point in the war this occurred is unclear; it's possible the Mini-Cons' arrival was what gave Megatron the opportunity to rise to power, or that they arrived after the war had already begun.

Either way, the Mini-Cons fueled the war machine for centuries, and the war with the [[Autobot]]s soon spread from [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]] to other worlds. The self-imposed exile of the Mini-Cons to an unknown destination was seen as a major setback for the Decepticons (and something of a pyrrhic victory for the Autobots), but despite this, the war continued, as both sides had amassed a large enough power base to continue on without the Mini-Cons.

The Autobots and Decepticons seemed to fight to a stalemate, neither able to gain a distinct advantage over the other. When a signal reached Cybertron centuries later that the Mini-Cons had landed on [[Earth]], it seems neither side was capable of sending a full force to retrieve them, despite the power they contained. Though the Decepticon force sent to Earth was small in numbers, it was far from insignificant; Megatron himself led the squad, backed by some of his most trusted warriors.

When Megatron returned to Cybertron, the overwhelming majority of the Mini-Cons were in the protective custody of the Autobots, but Megatron was unfazed; he had assembled the Mini-Cons required to make the three legendary weapons the [[Star Saber (UT)|Star Saber]], [[Skyboom (UT) (Armada)|Skyboom shield]] and [[Requiem Blaster (UT)|Requiem Blaster]] cannon. Bolstered by this new power and the apparent death of [[Optimus Prime (UT)|Optimus Prime]], Megatron attempted to take Cybertron once and for all.

But Megatron's return to Cybertron was the beginning of the end of the Decepticon army. When [[Unicron]] revealed himself as a threat to both armies, fueled by the negative psychic energies from centuries of death and destruction, the two sides eventually joined together to beat back the planet-eater. Despite the truce, Megatron and Prime engaged in a brutal duel on the surface of the weakened Unicron after the three legendary weapons had been removed from his core. Realizing their battle was keeping Unicron active, Megatron sacrificed himself, and both Unicron and Megatron disappeared into nothingness.

Megatron's final orders to his troops still stood: work ''with'' the Autobots. The Decepticons maintained a degree of autonomy, still wearing the faction sigil and often taking military/defensive positions in the growing number of [[energon]]-mining colonies, but they were ultimately answerable to Optimus Prime and the Autobots. There were naturally dissenters, most of which were captured and imprisoned. For a decade, Autobot and Decepticon worked side-by-side in a somewhat stable truce.

Both sides found themselves the target of attacks from Unicron again; hordes of [[Terrorcon drone]]s, sent by [[Alpha Quintesson (UT)|Alpha Quintesson]] to steal energon ore with which to revive the now-shattered husk of Unicron. What the alien did not count on was that Megatron's [[spark]] had survived, and was siphoning energon from Unicron's body. Soon the Decepticon leader had revived himself in a new form, drove off Alpha Quintesson, and along with an elite cadre of soldiers and a seemingly inexhaustable supply of mindless Terrorcon drones, began his ''new'' plans for conquest.

When news of Megatron's return reached Cybertron, hundreds of Decepticons rose up and rebelled, eager to get back to conquering. But having been joined to Unicon for so long apparently had given Megatron a taste of godhood; he had no more interest in amassing a galaxy-spanning army of troops. Countless Decepticons died in the resulting battles, with Megatron more than willing to sacrifice them without a thought to attain ultimate power for himself. As the "[[Powerlinx Battles]]" - as they came to be called - came to a head, Megatron found that his actions and thoughts were being influenced and controlled by the dark spark of Unicron. Unwilling to let Unicron stand in his way, Megatron ultimately sacrificed himself and seemingly destroyed Unicron's spark by plunging himself into a newly-formed energon sun created by [[Primus]].

What little remained of the once-mighty Decepticon army after [[Megatron (UT)|Megatron's]] loss was at best a loose association of criminals, thugs, and lunatics, with no real political or military power to speak of. For a decade, [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]] was once again at peace, with the population overwhelmingly [[Autobot]] or nuetral. The Transformers had withdrawn from [[Earth]] and its other colonies to focus on revitalizing their homeworld after the devastation of the Powerlinx Battles. However, two great catastrophes shattered this peace; the energon sun collapsed in on itself, forming the powerful black hole known as the [[Unicron Singularity]], which threatened to devour Cybertron and, if left unchecked, the entire universe... and the return once again of Megatron, who had absorbed much of what remained of Unicron's power.

Megatron's goal of attaining godhood was now at hand. By obtaining the legendary [[Omega Lock]] and the four [[Cyber Planet Keys]], Megatron intended to accellerate the growth of the black hole, consuming the universe in a vast sea of nothingness that only he would survive, then use his powers to re-create the universe in his image.

To this end, he had no need of an army. He gathered a small group of allies and lackeys to seek the items he needed, but they were nothing more than pawns to him, to be used and discarded at a whim.

The Decepticons briefly regained their status as a mass army of individuals when [[Starscream (UT)|Starscream]], who had long suffered at Megatron's hands since the beginning of the Decepticons, made his own bid for ultimate power. Having sealed Megatron and his troops in a trap, Starscream freed hundreds of criminal Transformers who had been locked up on [[Earth]] for millenia, and formed his own globe-spanning army. The Decepticon "Monsters" were tasked with finding the Omega Lock and Earth's Cyber Planet Key, which they eventually brought to their leader. However, numerous Decepticons were killed in the battles with the Autobots, and it soon became apparent that Starscream, like Megatron before him, didn't care. Most of these criminals soon abandoned Starscream and went into hiding.

As for Megatron, he too had deserters among his own considerably-small ranks. Most notably, the powerful [[Scourge (UT)|Scourge]], leader of the [[Jungle Planet]] and the colossal [[Menasor]] from [[Gigantion]], both of whom joined forces with their former enemies the Autobots.

This was not seen as a concern for Megatron, however. Byt the time those two had left him, Starscream was seemingly destroyed, and Megatron (then calling himself "Galvatron" again) had the Omega Lock and all four Keys. What few Decepticons remained loyal to him were too stupid to see what Galvatron had planned, and made perfect distractions as he set his final plan in motion. If they weren't strong enough to survive the coming cataclysm, then so be it.

Galvatron's plan failed, and the Unicron Singularity was sealed. His remaining Decepticons quickly left him, realizing what was likely to have happened to them, and eventually joined the Autobots. After Galvatron's seemingly-final defeat and death in a one-on-one duel with [[Optimus Prime (UT)|Optimus Prime's]], the Decepticons rose again, albeit in a rather pathetic fashion. Having cobbled together a rather rickety rocket, [[Ransack (UT) (Decepticon)|Ransack]], [[Crumplezone (UT) (Decepticon)|Crumplezone]] and [[Thunderblast (UT) (Decepticon)|Thunderblast]] shanghai'd the reluctant [[Thundercracker (UT)|Thundercracker]], who was ''really'' keen on being on the winning side for once, and flew off to parts unknown as the New Decepticon Army.

===G.I. Joe Starring Snake-Eyes And The Transformers===
In the midst of a scheme by [[Cobra Commander]] to bring new glory to his organization, the reconfigurable [[Silent Castle]] he had seized from [[Destro]] was put into a state of constant metamorphosis. This caught the attention of a heavily-damaged [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]], who flew to [[Trans-Carpathia]] from Canada and was enraged to discover a non-sentient piece of architecture instead of another Transformer.

This confrontation eventually led to an agreement between Megatron and Cobra whereby Megatron would receive a new, more powerful body (designed by [[Dr. Biggles-Jones]]) in exchange for the technologies of the downed-but-functional Autobot [[Ark]].

Cobra helicopters led Megatron and the unearthed Ark from Canada to the Cobra-controlled town of [[Millville]], New York, where its brainwashed denizens began to unload the spacecraft. Their operation was discovered by the [[G.I. Joe]] team, who Megatron was vocally uninterested in battling.

Not too long afterwards, a group of Autobots ([[Brawn (G1)|Brawn]], [[Chase (G1)|Chase]], [[Hot Spot (G1)|Hot Spot]], [[Override (G1)|Override]], [[Skydive (G1)|Skydive]], and [[Steeljaw (G1)|Steeljaw]]) arrived and battled Megatron in Millville, causing considerable damage to Cobra's property holdings and destroying any vestiges of town's use as a secret base.

As the situation continued to degrade, Cobra Commander ordered an evacuation of the town's assets and personnel from a position near the Ark. Megatron then arrived, and having captured [[Dr. Biggles-Jones]], abruptly disregarded his previous agreement with Cobra Commander. He took the Ark for himself and blasted off, much to Cobra Commander's extreme annoyance.

In-transit, Megatron voiced that he had transferred a virus that had been implanted in his new body by Dr. Biggles-Jones to the Cybertronian technology in Cobra's possession, which would render it inoperable.

===Transformers Generation 2===
Following [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]]'s departure in the [[Ark]], a convoy of Cobra vehicles departed [[Millville]], safeguarding a transport containing the (unknowingly infected) Cybertronian technology they had acquired.

The convoy was assaulted by Autobot [[Hot Spot (G1)|Hot Spot]], who feared the havoc that could be created by the alien technology in Cobra's hands. As Cobra soldiers prepared to retaliate against him, they were cut down by [[Snake-Eyes]] and [[Hawk (GIJoe|General Hawk]], which gave Hot Spot the opportunity to destroy the transport.

Surrounded and heavily damaged, Hot Spot destroyed himself rather than be captured and dissected by Cobra's technicians for knowledge.

===Transformers/G.I. Joe===
In 1938, Major Sebastian Bludd discovered the [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]] and his [[Decepticons]] in a shrine in the [[Fera Islands]]. Soon Megatron allied himself with Bludd's master, Cobra Commander, and they joined forces to conquer [[Europe]]. Even the mighty [[Maginot Line]] could not stop them as they rolled through [[Berlin]], [[Paris]], and [[Rome]] and enslaving their inhabitants. Before long, the Decepticon/Cobra onslaught reached [[Great Britain]].

However, treachery from Destro, the Baroness, and [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream]] led the newly-formed G.I. Joe team to their [[Terrordrome]]. While engaging Cobra troops commanded by Storm Shadow, the Joes encountered the [[Autobots]], who soon repaired and revived themselves. The Joes soon found themselves under fire from a squadron of [[Rattler|Rattlers]] and [[Seeker|Seekers]] led by Wild Weasel, but they were driven back by [[Lady Jaye]] and the [[Aerialbots]].

As this transpired, Megatron attempted to dispose of his insufficiently-efficient human partners, but was humbled by a [[Matrix]]-bearing Cobra Commander.

While the Cobra aircraft were driven off, they left behind paratroopers and [[Rumble (G1)|Rumble]]. The Joes managed to defeat the troops, and [[Bumblebee (G1)|Bumblebee]] and [[Scarlett]] destroyed Rumble, but Zartan managed to murder and replace [[Breaker]] in the confusion. He was quickly discovered, but not before he allowed [[Soundwave (G1)|Soundwave]] to capture [[Flint]].

Storm Shadow left the main Cobra force to engage in a deadly duel with his sword-brother [[Snake-Eyes]], now a member of G.I. Joe. Despite the intervention of [[Ravage (G1)|Ravage]], Snake-Eyes defeated Storm Shadow, who was then eaten by a shark.

Soon, Cobra prepared to defend the town of [[Torhavn]] against the approoaching Autobots and Joes, using slaves as human shields. Another Cobra air attack was foiled by Lady Jaye and [[Superion (G1)|Superion]], leading to the death of Wild Weasel, and Lady Jaye defeated Bludd and the [[Dreadnoks]]. Meanwhile, a small Joe strikeforce infiltrated the Terrordrome, destroying [[Frenzy (G1)|Frenzy]] in the process.

As the Joes, Autobots, and an Allied fleet neared, [[Shockwave (G1)|Shockwave]] destroyed Superion and a number of ships, damaging himself severely in the process. But despite heavy losses, the Autobots soldiered on.

Destro and the Baroness took advantage of the chaos to unleash their monstrous creation [[Bruticus (G1)|Bruticus]] upon both sides - but not before slaying their co-conspirator, Starscream. Bruticus' attack crippled Cobra Commander, allowing the Baroness to execute him with Megatron's pistol form. Her victory was short-lived - before the Commander's body could cool, she and Destro were arrested by Scarlett and Snake-Eyes. As the metal monster tore through the Autobots, Snake-Eyes took the Matrix from the Commander's corpse and destroyed it, killing the Autobots, Decepticons, and Bruticus and ending the threat of Cobra.

Joe attacked a Cobra shipping facility commanded by Destro. While the facility was largely destroyed, Destro and Scrap-Iron managed to escape via [[Trouble Bubble]]. Soon afterwards, Cobra detected the crash of an [[Autobot]] shuttlecraft near [[Portland]]. Their retrieval force was repelled by a team of G.I. Joe rookies.

==Generation 1==

In the various continuities descending from [[Generation 1]], the Decepticons and the [[Autobot]]s are the two great powers in the Transformer population. The factions, however, are not a complete set -- there are Transformers who are unaffiliated / neutral, or even members of smaller or splinter factions.

Many G1 timelines actually credit [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]] as the founder of the Decepticons, not merely its most recent leader. In contrast, [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]] is almost always depicted as only the latest in a long line of [[Primes]] or [[Matrix Bearer]]s.

==Robots in Disguise==

In the [[Robots in Disguise (cartoon)|''Robots in Disguise'' cartoon]], the Decepticons were a brand new faction that came into being during the events of the story. Because there were so few Decepticons (only six or seven), and because they were a subset of the [[Predacon]] antagonists, they can almost be viewed as a [[subgroup]] rather than a proper faction. The RiD Decepticons were created on Earth when [[Megatron (RiD)|Megatron]]'s forces captured a set of [[stasis pod]]s from an ancient Transformer spaceship that had been found on [[Earth]], leading to the birth of the [[Commandos]] and [[Scourge (RiD)|Scourge]]. The toy version of [[Galvatron (RiD)|Galvatron]] was also labelled as a Decepticon, although this "change" in the character's faction was not established in the cartoon series.

In the Japanese version of RiD, ''[[Car Robots]]'', the Decepticons were known as [[Combatron]]s.

The ''exact'' origins of the Decepticon faction is a bit muddled. It is widely assumed, though never directly confirmed, that the movement was founded by [[Megatron (UT)|Megatron]]. Also, the enslavement of the power-enhancing [[Mini-Con]]s is considered to be the impetus to the Decepticons' rise to a massive multi-planet-spanning army, though at what point in the war this occurred is unclear; it's possible the Mini-Cons' arrival was what gave Megatron the opportunity to rise to power, or that they arrived after the war had already begun.

Either way, the Mini-Cons fueled the war machine for centuries, and the war with the [[Autobot]]s soon spread from [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]] to other worlds. The self-imposed exile of the Mini-Cons to an unknown destination was seen as a major setback for the Decepticons (and something of a pyrrhic victory for the Autobots), but despite this, the war continued, as both sides had amassed a large enough power base to continue on without the Mini-Cons.

The Autobots and Decepticons seemed to fight to a stalemate, neither able to gain a distinct advantage over the other. When a signal reached Cybertron centuries later that the Mini-Cons had landed on [[Earth]], it seems neither side was capable of sending a full force to retrieve them, despite the power they contained. Though the Decepticon force sent to Earth was small in numbers, it was far from insignificant; Megatron himself led the squad, backed by some of his most trusted warriors.

When Megatron returned to Cybertron, the overwhelming majority of the Mini-Cons were in the protective custody of the Autobots, but Megatron was unfazed; he had assembled the Mini-Cons required to make the three legendary weapons the [[Star Saber (UT)|Star Saber]], [[Skyboom (UT) (Armada)|Skyboom shield]] and [[Requiem Blaster (UT)|Requiem Blaster]] cannon. Bolstered by this new power and the apparent death of [[Optimus Prime (UT)|Optimus Prime]], Megatron attempted to take Cybertron once and for all.

But Megatron's return to Cybertron was the beginning of the end of the Decepticon army. When [[Unicron]] revealed himself as a threat to both armies, fueled by the negative psychic energies from centuries of death and destruction, the two sides eventually joined together to beat back the planet-eater. Despite the truce, Megatron and Prime engaged in a brutal duel on the surface of the weakened Unicron after the three legendary weapons had been removed from his core. Realizing their battle was keeping Unicron active, Megatron sacrificed himself, and both Unicron and Megatron disappeared into nothingness.

====Energon====
Megatron's final orders to his troops still stood: work ''with'' the Autobots. The Decepticons maintained a degree of autonomy, still wearing the faction sigil and often taking military/defensive positions in the growing number of [[energon]]-mining colonies, but they were ultimately answerable to Optimus Prime and the Autobots. There were naturally dissenters, most of which were captured and imprisoned. For a decade, Autobot and Decepticon worked side-by-side in a somewhat stable truce.

Both sides found themselves the target of attacks from Unicron again; hordes of [[Terrorcon drone]]s, sent by [[Alpha Quintesson (UT)|Alpha Quintesson]] to steal energon ore with which to revive the now-shattered husk of Unicron. What the alien did not count on was that Megatron's [[spark]] had survived, and was siphoning energon from Unicron's body. Soon the Decepticon leader had revived himself in a new form, drove off Alpha Quintesson, and along with an elite cadre of soldiers and a seemingly inexhaustable supply of mindless Terrorcon drones, began his ''new'' plans for conquest.

When news of Megatron's return reached Cybertron, hundreds of Decepticons rose up and rebelled, eager to get back to conquering. But having been joined to Unicon for so long apparently had given Megatron a taste of godhood; he had no more interest in amassing a galaxy-spanning army of troops. Countless Decepticons died in the resulting battles, with Megatron more than willing to sacrifice them without a thought to attain ultimate power for himself. As the "[[Powerlinx Battles]]" - as they came to be called - came to a head, Megatron found that his actions and thoughts were being influenced and controlled by the dark spark of Unicron. Unwilling to let Unicron stand in his way, Megatron ultimately sacrificed himself and seemingly destroyed Unicron's spark by plunging himself into a newly-formed energon sun created by [[Primus]].

====Cybertron====
What little remained of the once-mighty Decepticon army after [[Megatron (UT)|Megatron's]] loss was at best a loose association of criminals, thugs, and lunatics, with no real political or military power to speak of. For a decade, [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]] was once again at peace, with the population overwhelmingly [[Autobot]] or nuetral. The Transformers had withdrawn from [[Earth]] and its other colonies to focus on revitalizing their homeworld after the devastation of the Powerlinx Battles. However, two great catastrophes shattered this peace; the energon sun collapsed in on itself, forming the powerful black hole known as the [[Unicron Singularity]], which threatened to devour Cybertron and, if left unchecked, the entire universe... and the return once again of Megatron, who had absorbed much of what remained of Unicron's power.

Megatron's goal of attaining godhood was now at hand. By obtaining the legendary [[Omega Lock]] and the four [[Cyber Planet Keys]], Megatron intended to accellerate the growth of the black hole, consuming the universe in a vast sea of nothingness that only he would survive, then use his powers to re-create the universe in his image.

To this end, he had no need of an army. He gathered a small group of allies and lackeys to seek the items he needed, but they were nothing more than pawns to him, to be used and discarded at a whim.

The Decepticons briefly regained their status as a mass army of individuals when [[Starscream (UT)|Starscream]], who had long suffered at Megatron's hands since the beginning of the Decepticons, made his own bid for ultimate power. Having sealed Megatron and his troops in a trap, Starscream freed hundreds of criminal Transformers who had been locked up on [[Earth]] for millenia, and formed his own globe-spanning army. The Decepticon "Monsters" were tasked with finding the Omega Lock and Earth's Cyber Planet Key, which they eventually brought to their leader. However, numerous Decepticons were killed in the battles with the Autobots, and it soon became apparent that Starscream, like Megatron before him, didn't care. Most of these criminals soon abandoned Starscream and went into hiding.

As for Megatron, he too had deserters among his own considerably-small ranks. Most notably, the powerful [[Scourge (UT)|Scourge]], leader of the [[Jungle Planet]] and the colossal [[Menasor]] from [[Gigantion]], both of whom joined forces with their former enemies the Autobots.

This was not seen as a concern for Megatron, however. Byt the time those two had left him, Starscream was seemingly destroyed, and Megatron (then calling himself "Galvatron" again) had the Omega Lock and all four Keys. What few Decepticons remained loyal to him were too stupid to see what Galvatron had planned, and made perfect distractions as he set his final plan in motion. If they weren't strong enough to survive the coming cataclysm, then so be it.

Galvatron's plan failed, and the Unicron Singularity was sealed. His remaining Decepticons quickly left him, realizing what was likely to have happened to them, and eventually joined the Autobots. After Galvatron's seemingly-final defeat and death in a one-on-one duel with [[Optimus Prime (UT)|Optimus Prime's]], the Decepticons rose again, albeit in a rather pathetic fashion. Having cobbled together a rather rickety rocket, [[Ransack (UT) (Decepticon)|Ransack]], [[Crumplezone (UT) (Decepticon)|Crumplezone]] and [[Thunderblast (UT) (Decepticon)|Thunderblast]] shanghai'd the reluctant [[Thundercracker (UT)|Thundercracker]], who was ''really'' keen on being on the winning side for once, and flew off to parts unknown as the New Decepticon Army.
It's pretty unlikely that they got very far.

During the closing credit's montage Starscream and a Galvatron-esque figure are seen again, what this means for the Decepticon army is uknown.
