:Wolfang is a Maximal from the Beast Wars portion of the Generation 1 continuity family.

Wolfang is no lone wolf. He is a team player through and through, effortlessly integrating himself into whatever Maximal unit he finds himself entrenched with. This "strength in numbers" mentality is only enhanced by his given beast mode; he has even developed an affinity with actual, flesh-and-blood wolves. Wolfang does his best work under cover of night, relishing tracking down Predacons while cloaked. Once he has his quarry, Wolfang prefers to call in the rest of his Maximal "pack" to help finish the job.

Fiction
Ain't No Rat
On their way back to Cybertron, Rattrap recalls meeting three unknown Maximals named Wolfang, Bonecrusher, and Optimus Minor, when they saved him from Dinobot II in the wilderness. He asked them to join the Axalons crew, but they declined because of some other mysterious purpose that they couldn't elaborate on. Wolfang and the others asked Rattrap to keep their existence a secret, and he acquiesced. Ain't No Rat
IDW Beast Wars comics
Wolfang was one of the protoforms left behind by the crew of the Axalon on prehistoric Earth. He was activated and put in chronal phase by Razorbeast at Magmatron's request, but was protected from Magmatron's Predacon shell-program by Razorbeast's viral code. The Gathering issue 1 He was one of the first Maximals Razorbeast hooked up with, and accompanied him in his quest to obtain a transwarp signal amplifier from the wreckage of Ravage's ship. They had a short scuffle with Magmatron, but managed to escape while Optimus Minor and Snarl secured the signal amplifier. The Gathering issue 2 The Maximals' attempt to use the amplifier to send a distress call to Cybertron was interrupted by a full-scale Predacon attack, and Wolfang and the others were boxed-in. Luckily, they were saved by timely reinforcements led by Torca. The Gathering issue 4

Still stranded on Earth weeks later, Razorbeast expressed frustration to Wolfang and Prowl II about the current situation and doubt that rescue was ever going to arrive. Wolfang tried to point out the positive, stating that they had beaten the Predacons before and had Grimlock on their side. Only a short time later, the Predacons staged another assault on the Maximals' base-camp. The Ascending issue 1 On the verge of being overwhelmed, the Maximals were once again saved by a timely intervention; this time by Lio Convoy and the Pack. The battle was halted, however, when Rartorata arrived and infected Razorbeast with a dose of Angolmois venom. The Ascending issue 2 Driven berserk by the infection, the feral Razorbeast forced the Maximals and Predacons to work together to both contain him and fight the new Blendtron threat. Lio Convoy and Ravage quickly gathered a portion of their combined forces to return to Cybertron in hopes of preventing the ascension of the mad demi-god Shokaract. Wolfang was among those who went back. The Ascending issue 3 However, upon return to his home planet, Wolfang was engulfed in one of Shokaract's powerful blasts and killed fighting alongside K-9 and Insecticon. The Ascending issue 4
Notes
* Wolfang was originally to be the first new character to join the Beast Wars cartoon. However, that role was instead filled by Tigatron, due to the fact that Tigatron's animation model is a tweak of the already-in-cartoon Cheetor model, thereby saving Mainframe a buttload of time and money.

*"Ain't No Rat" was originally going to be a prologue for Dreamwave's Beast Wars series. After Dreamwave collapsed, IDW picked up the project and Simon Furman reworked the original plan into The Gathering; as a result, the three new Maximals from Dreamwave's story figured prominently into IDW's first limited series.

* In IDW's Beast Wars Sourcebook #4, Wolfang's name is misspelled as "Wolfgang".
The Beast Wars Transformers Mutating Card Game was a two-player card game released in conjunction with the Beast Wars toy line and television series. It featured 24 beast cards, 72 battle cards, and a three dimension game board that (is meant to) resemble a mountain top.

Release Date: 1997

Game play
Two types of cards are included in the game; Battle Cards and Character cards. Each player starts with three characters in their home row, in their BEAST modes. Battle cards are shuffled together, and are placed face-down in a pile separate from the board. Before the game starts, players decide on how many reserve characters will be included into the game, ranging from none to all of the remaining character cards.

Each turn, a player may either play a reserve card onto their first row, move one of his characters one space in any direction, or attack an enemy character in a space adjacent to one of the character of one's team. A character is "adjacent" to another character if those two cards are side-by-side or end-to-end.

If a player's first row is fully occupied by enemy characters, that player may play his new reinforcements anywhere on the board.

Each character has six of their tech specs listed on each of the card faces (six for their beast modes and six for their robot modes.) Each stat associated with a different color. Not all characters use the same six stats, and stats may be associated with different colors from character to character. These stats are also different between a character's two modes.

When a character attacks, both players draw a card from the Battle Card pile (the attacker drawing first, the attacked second.) Each battle card is illustrated with a "diamond" of a single color, which indicates which stat one's character will use in the current battle. Battle cards are removed from play after being used.

Basic Battle cards have no additional effects.

Energon cards add an additional point to a character's stat in the battle.

Secret Weapon cards add two additional points to a character's stat in the battle.

Mutate cards cause the characters to switch mode. A character remains in whichever mode it currently is until it switches mode through the use of a Mutate card.

Whichever character loses the battle is moved back one space, and the character who wins the confrontation moves up and occupies the space the character it defeated occupied before the battle. If a losing character cannot move back due to another card already occupying the space in which it is meant to move into, that character is captured and removed from play. If a character cannot move back due to being on the edge of the board, that character is knocked off the mountain top and removed from play. If a player controls no characters at any point, that player loses the game.

In case of a draw between the two characters, both characters remain as they are. Either player may make both characters do battle again on the following turn if they are still adjacent to one another.

Strategy is involved in maneuvering one's characters into situations where the are capable of retreating backwards, and forcing opponents into situations where they cannot. A portion of game play is also influenced by luck, seeing as one cannot control when one's character might transform, and one may luck out by drawing either an Energon or Secret Weapon card against a tougher opponent.
Notes
*The artwork used for the Beast Warriors' robot modes was the same as their packaging artwork. Their beast modes' artwork was new, however.
*The instructions booklet of this game declares that one may use their own Beast Wars action figures (sold separately) to battle on the mountain top for even more fun! It is somewhat inconceivable how this would involve additional game play.
*Though it makes sense why most of the beast warriors' stats are different from one mode to the other, some instances seem nonsensical, such as when a character's intelligence or rank changes.
