the ill-destined wasp robot from Transformers Animated

:Wasp is an Autobot from the Transformers Animated continuity family. After a freak mutation, he donned a Decepticon insignia and took the name Waspinator.

Wasp is a lot like Bumblebee...physically, at least. Built from the same chassis and sharing many of the same specifications and subroutines, the two Autobots attended boot camp together. Wasp's pompous, smarmy personality leaves something to be desired, but he had a lot going for him as a soldier, being highly skilled in the use of his stingers and knowing just how to toe the line with the drill sergeant. In a better life, he might have been Cybertron Elite Guard commander material.

Might have.

These days, though, Wasp is a broken bot, mentally unstable and on the run from the Autobots who have branded him a traitor. What little remains of his mind is focused on just one goal...destroying Bumblebee, the bot who ruined his life!

Fiction
Animated cartoon
:Voice actor: Tom Kenny (English), Jaron Löwenberg (German)
ongoing
Wasp was a cadet in the same group as Bumblebee, Bulkhead, Ironhide and Longarm. Right away, Wasp took a dislike to Bumblebee, insulting him out of the blue as the yellow bot mused to himself about his future in the Elite Guard. He also dubbed Bulkhead a "mudflap", much to the amusement of his fellow cadets. The loud-mouthed drill sergeant Sentinel Minor took an immediate liking to "Wasp", as he dubbed him. Wasp and Ironhide quickly became close friends, often competing in little tests of strength, usually involving Wasp hitting or stinging Ironhide while the latter was in armor mode.

After Bumblebee "bumbled" several times, leading to many transform-ups for the whole group, Wasp and Ironhide decided to take matters into their own hands, unscrewing Bumblebee's lower legs and leaving them out of reach even before they dumped the rest of him in a locker.

Unbeknownst to Wasp, however, the reason for Bumblebee's foul-ups was that he was trying to out a traitor in the group—and had pegged Wasp as the likely culprit after seeing him walk out of a hangar in which someone had contacted Megatron. (Plus, let's face it, he was a complete jerk. And Decepticons are jerks, right?) At Longarm's prompting, Bumblebee eventually found evidence incriminating Wasp as a spy. Wasp was stripped of his Autobot insignia and wheeled away, protesting his innocence and swearing revenge on Bumblebee.

Many years later, Wasp escaped from Autobot custody and apparently eluded the now-Sentinel Prime by jumping through a space bridge. What was left of Wasp hid beneath the bridge as Sentinel left, buzzing and twittering to himself, still swearing revenge on "Bumblebot". In reality, however, the innocent bot—broken mentally by his years of imprisonment—had been set up with evidence planted by "Longarm", who had also arranged Wasp's "escape" to divert suspicion from himself. Autoboot Camp

Needless to say, when the truth was revealed to Bumblebee by his old "friend", Longarm Prime (aka the Decepticon Shockwave), he took it pretty hard. A Bridge Too Close, Part II

Wasp headed straight for the Autobots' base on Earth, with Sentinel Prime and Jazz in pursuit. Waiting until Bumblebee was left alone on monitor duty (and actually playing Ninja Gladiator instead), he struck during a power outage, knocking Bumbleebee cold and switching color schemes, helmets and even speech synthesizers with his rival. When Bumblebee came to, the others had returned and had him prisoner, with the disguised Wasp at their side. Despite Bumblebee's muffled cries, the Autobots fell for Wasp's ruse, forcing Bumblebee to flee into the night. Wasp stayed behind as the others tracked Bumblebee down, allowing him to try beating Bumblebee's video game and to search through Bumblebee's personal files.

When the others returned, joined by Sentinel, Jazz, Jetfire and Jetstorm, Wasp was able to recount several of Bumblebee's adventures which were logged in his files to keep the Autobots confused as to which bot was which. Unfortunately for Wasp, Bulkhead proposed the two battle against each other in in Ninja Gladiator, so that Bumblebee's video game skills would be readily apparent and the traitor revealed. Before their video game could begin, Wasp panicked and attacked Bumblebee, holding him hostage so he could make his escape. Wasp left Bumblebee with one final indignity, turning off the electronic paintjob he'd installed in Bee and stealing his helmet back...tricking Bulkhead into pummeling the real Bumblebee while Wasp fled. Where Is Thy Sting?

Predacons Rising

The Autobots continued to pursue an erratic Wasp, though for different reasons: Sentinel Prime was still commanding the Elite Guard to bring him in on suspicion of treason, while Optimus and Bumblebee just wanted to help him (or at least keep him from damaging himself and bystanders during his crazed flight). In the midst of a pursuit through the streets of Detroit, Bumblebee tried once again to convince Wasp that he was now known to be innocent and was set up by Longarm, but Wasp refused to listen. During the chase, Wasp was suddenly abducted by Swoop, who carried him to Dinobot Island.

Wasp soon found himself in Meltdown's old underground lab going ga-ga over Blackarachnia. The spiderbot used her feminine wiles and familiar-sounding sob stories of Autobot betrayal to win Wasp's trust, and she convinced him to undergo an organic power augmentation procedure by impressing him with the ferocity of her own beast mode (while shielding him from seeing the disfigured mutant corpses left behind from her prior experiments). Wasp entered one transwarp chamber, a real organic wasp was put into another, and out came... Waspinator, three times larger than before, with energy "stings" and a heavily processed voice.

When he was finally tracked down by Bumblebee, who apologized to him, he decided that while "Wasp" forgave his former accuser, "Waspinator" preferred violent revenge. But before Waspinator could deliver the final blow, he overheard Blackarachnia admitting to the Autobots that she only viewed her new "friend" as another experimental attempt to cure her own organic infection. Irate at yet another betrayal, Waspinator started attacking everybody—and if that wasn't scary enough, his transwarp energy became unstable. Just as Waspinator reached critical mass, Blackarachnia sealed them both within a cocoon of her energy webbing, containing the explosion of tranwarp energy.

While only a crater was left on Dinobot Island, Waspinator and Blackarachnia were teleported by the transwarp energy to an unknown jungle. Although reduced to pieces by the explosion, Waspinator was still functional, and slowly began putting himself back together. After all, he couldn't go offline yet... because "Wazzzpinator hazz planzzz!" Predacons Rising

*Waspinator (Deluxe class, 2009)

:Despite his cartoon origins, Waspinator is not a redeco or retooling of Bumblebee. Part of the sixth wave of Animated Deluxe-class toys, Waspinator transforms from a techno-organic wasp into a techno-organic, four-armed, winged robot that resembles his Beast Wars namesake, only far freakier-looking. In both modes, a lever on the thorax flaps his wings back and forth.

:His antennae are made of softer rubber, to allow them to be wedged within his insect head, as well as for safety reasons.

Notes
*A wasp and a bee, sharing the same mold? How preposterous!

*The small, vestigial arms present on the Deluxe Waspinator toy's robot mode torso have their origin in an early design concept for Lockdown; the bounty hunter robot's character model was subsequently altered to make his appearance less monstrous, but Derrick Wyatt loved the concept of the vestigial arms enough to incorporate them instead into Waspinator's design.

*The signature quote given to Waspinator on his toy packaging is "Waspinator rules!", one of several iconic catchphrases associated with the original Beast Wars incarnation of Waspinator. He uttered it in "Maximal, No More".

Waspinator did say that while "Wasp forgive Bumblebot", Waspinator had other plans. perhaps, Waspinator's beastigal side became the domimant one, after he became Waspinator.
The Beast Wars II toyline consisted almost entirely of redecoes of Generation 2, Machine Wars, and American Beast Wars toys, although all new molds were created for the two faction leaders: Leo Prime, a white lion, and Galvatron, a purple dragon. Most of the Destrons are mechanical while the Cybertrons all have beast modes.

The cartoon series aired in Japan between season one of Beast Wars and seasons two and three, in order to fill the gap until the later seasons could be dubbed into Japanese. The Cybertron (Maximal) team starts off with Leo Prime, Apache, Bighorn, Tasmania Kid, Scuba, and Diver (BWII).
Beast Wars Special, the Beast Wars II movie, consisted of three segments, only one of which contained new animation:

The Blentrons are freakish Transformers created by the evil Unicron. They are ridiculously powerful; able to take down the likes of Big Convoy and Magmatron with little effort.

The Blentrons consist of:

*Elphaorpha (leader)
*Rartorarta
*Drancron

(Note: the Blentrons are sometimes referred to as the "Blendtrons" by fans, though there is no "d" sound in their name.)

Fiction
Beast Wars Neo
After the destruction of Unicron during the climax of The Transformers: The Movie, his lifeforce raced through time and space where it riddled itself into the planet Gaia and became known as Angolmois energy. After a botched attempt by Galvatron to steal all the Angolmois, the energy was sealed into capsules and scattered across the galaxy.

Big Convoy, leader of the Maximal new recruits, and Magmatron, the Predacon Emperor of Destruction, raced across the galaxy collecting the Angolmois capsules. Eventually, after numerous rascally hijinks, the two factions recovered all the capsules.

Then the Blentrons came out of nowhere and beat the ever living CRUD out of both teams and stole the capsules. The Blentrons, absurdly powerful and able to bend time and space at their leisure, had no trouble stealing all the capsules and trapping the Maximals and Magmatron in a wormhole, leaving the Predacons to bicker over leadership.

As it turns out, the Blentrons were created by Unicron. Loyal to their God, they released all the Angolmois into the corpse of Galvatron, reviving Unicron. Unicron then absorbed the last remaining bit of loose Angolmois; the Blentrons themselves. That's gratitude for ya!

Notes/Trivia
The Blentrons are heavily influenced by Lovecraftian mythology. They are a cult of grotesque freaks of nature who are capable of bending reality-itself and are determined to resurrect a primordial God. Read "the Call of Cthulhu" one of these days; you'll catch the similarities.

The Terrorcons of the Energon Battles were a class of compact but deadly mass-produced Decepticons. Though some had surprisingly high intelligence, which would suggest some capacity for autonomy, they were usually considered expendable drones by Decepticon and Autobot alike. Terrorcons had an unusual ability, shared with the Omnicons, to handle and process raw Energon. Terrorcon altmodes generally take the form of robotic beasts. these are their types:

Cliffjumper hates traitors. And anybody could be a traitor. Therefore, Cliffjumper hates everybody. It's unclear if he hates traitors more than he hates Decepticons, but it's at least a neck-and-neck thing.

He makes a habit of pulling ridiculously huge guns from nowhere and attacking impulsively despite orders or sanity. Somehow, this gets him neither killed nor demoted.

Cliffjumper's special weapon is his "glass gas", which embrittles metals on contact so that they shatter like glass. He is not immune to its effects, so its use requires careful consideration of wind direction. Actually, this may explain why he prefers the big guns. He doesn't seem like the calculating type.

In vehicle mode, Cliffjumper is one of the fastest ground-vehicle Autobots, if not absolutely the fastest.

However, the head of Optimus Prime was still missing, and during an attempt to retrieve it, an imposter head took control of Prime's body, firing on Cliffjumper. Presumably repaired, he later participated in the Dinobot Hunt, along with Gears and Windcharger. Although they found Sludge, immediately thereafter all three were captured by the Decepticons. They were rescued by Bumblebee.

He was one of the observers to Blaster and Grimlock's battle on the moon. How he fared in the following Decepticon attack is unknown, but he's never seen again.
Cliffjumper was a part of the crew onboard the Ark when it crashed into Earth four million years ago during a search for new energy sources. His alt-mode was reformatted into an oddly proportioned Porsche 924.

When the Autobots awakened from their four million-year slumber, Cliffjumper was eager for action. He volunteered to tag along on Hound's recon mission to scout out Decepticons because he was itching to "boot some Decepticon right in his turbocharger." Though Optimus Prime's orders were only to find the Decepticons, Cliffjumper brashly tried to engage the enemy once Hound sniffed them out.

Cliffjumper missed his shot, and the Decepticons dispatched Laserbeak to chase off the Autobot eavesdroppers. Hound got pasted by Laserbeak's laser blasts, requiring extensive repair from Autobot medic, Ratchet. though Cliffjumper was remorseful for having acted without thinking, Hound didn't hold a grudge.

While pursuing Nightbird, the female robot ninja built to benefit mankind, Cliffjumper was the only Autobot unable to jump up the cliff after her. Ironic.
In "the Great Car Rally", a bunch of humans set up a race for charity. The victor would received a year's supply of oil and gasoline. Well, the Decepticons desperately wanted that bounty, so rather than just steal it, they decided to sneak into the race. Cliffjumper was one of the Autobots driving in the rally and was unaware that the scary black cadillac was actually being driven by Megatron. Megatron dogged Cliffjumper for quite a while but ended up losing to the Minibot. Cliffjumper won the race and everybody smiled, even Optimus Prime.
In the original release, there were common instances of Cliffjumper being packaged as a yellow version, and Bumblebee likewise being packaged as a red version, leading to some confusion about the two characters, especially if the toys were found without their packaging.
Ratchet is the Autobots' Chief Medical Officer. If something's broke, he can fix it. Ratchet is known for his irreverent bedside manner; he loves having a good time, and his party-loving nature has given him a dry wit. He attaches little importance to his job, though this does not detract from the quality of his work, and believes he is expendable. Optimus Prime has trouble convincing Ratchet that this is far from the truth.

Although he's a healer, Ratchet often finds himself on the front lines of combat and, on occasion, the last hope the Autobots have. These pressures are sometimes too much for him to handle, but Ratchet ultimately never gives up.
Shortly after the Transformers arrived on Earth, Sparkplug Witwicky suffered a heart attack, so Ratchet drove Sparkplug and his son Buster to the hospital. It was during this leave that Shockwave freed himself from his four million year sleep and completely wiped out the fuel-deprived Autobot forces with one blast.

Ratchet soon discovered, to his horror, that he was the last Autobot still functional on Earth, up against the entire Decepticon army. Covertly invading the Ark, he discovered that even the mighty Optimus Prime had fallen. However, Prime's head, though detached, still functioned, and the Autobot Commander told Ratchet that he must rise up to meet this challenge. Ratchet did not believe he could; he was not a warrior but a healer.

Still, Ratchet tried. Shockwave had returned in full strength and deposed the mighty Megatron. In his weakened state, Megatron could not hope to defeat Shockwave and reclaim his leadership, but Ratchet approached him with a possible solution. Ratchet knew how Shockwave had fallen 4 million years ago, and struck a deal -- if Ratchet could defeat Shockwave, Megatron would relinguish Decepticon control of the Ark and its wrecked Autobot inhabitants.

Ratchet journeyed to the Savage Land, where the Dinobots had fought Shockwave to a stalemate, leaving all dormant in a tarpit prison. He dug up the Dinobots and repaired them. Soon after, he met with Megatron on a snowy ski slope, and announced that he had fulfilled his half of the bargain. Shockwave was defeated. Megatron, of course, went back on his part of the deal and threatened to kill Ratchet. Ratchet declared that he knew all along Megatron would not hold his end of the bargain, admitted that he had not, in fact, defeated Shockwave. The Dinobots sprung up out of the snow surrounding Megatron, and fought him, but did not succeed. Megatron now stood alone, triumphant, mocking Ratchet and his lack of a warrior's edge. With nothing to lose, Ratchet charged Megatron, but he was ineffectual. However, the charge had loosened the ground on which Megatron stood, and the Decepticon leader fell off the cliffside and disappeared.

On their return trip to the Ark, Ratchet helped educate the Dinobots about human/Autobot relations by telling them the story of a recent battle with the Decepticons at a hydroelectric dam. When they arrived, Ratchet and the Dinobots found the Ark defended by Guardian, an Autobot combat drone which had been reprogrammed by Shockwave. Ratchet rescued the Dinobots from the powerful drone by remembering and exploiting one of its few weaknesses, an access port which could admit a fine laser. Ratchet then began the task of repairing the Autobots, placing priority on those whose command skills would be useful. This put him at odds with Dinobot leader Grimlock, who felt that the fallen Dinobot Swoop should be repaired first.

When Prowl devised a plan to use the Matrix to create an army of monstrous Autobot warriors, debate over the plan's ethics threatened to divide the Autobots. Ratchet remained neutral, and asked Optimus Prime to step in and provide guidance.

Ratchet and Wheeljack collaborated on a Transformer-sized robotic suit, to be used by Buster Witwicky in battle. Optimus Prime was unamused.

After the destruction of Optimus Prime, Ratchet was unable to repair him. Unable to deal with his failure, Ratchet wandered off on his own during Optimus' funeral. Ratchet decided that rather than moping, he should concern himself with the other damaged Autobots under his care, so he headed towards a junkyard to look for spare parts he could use. However, he was abducted in vehicle mode by the Mechanic and his accomplice Juan, when the two thieves were found by the police. Ratchet revealed himself when they arrived at the Mechanic's hideout, but the Mechanic froze Ratchet with his own surgical weapons and headed for the Ark, intent on finding technology that would ensure he would never be threatened by the police again. When he had unfrozen, Ratchet followed the human back to the Ark, but was defeated by his own surgical tools. But using pieces he took from the junkyard, he repaired Prowl, and the appearance of the police car frightened the Mechanic away. The Mechanic escaped with Ratchet's tools and the Power Booster Rod.

When an Underbase-powered Starscream decimated the Earthbound Autobot forces, Ratchet was left with the monumental task of repairing them. During a period of work-induced stress, he began to hallucinate visions of his patients attacking him and accusing him of being worthless. It was during this time that the Decepticon Sports Car Patrol, posing as Autobots, offered to help transport Ratchet to Cybertron, where he could have access to new medical technology that had been created during his 4 million-year absence on Earth. He and three of the Sports Car Patrol took the bodies of Grimlock, Jazz, and Goldbug with him, though Ratchet was curious why Blackjack stayed behind on the Ark. Ratchet's concerns were answered when, upon arrival on Cybertron, he saw the believed-to-be-deceased Megatron standing before him, who had orchestrated the entire scheme.

Megatron brought Ratchet the remains of Starscream. He demanded Ratchet repair him while Blackjack held the Ark and its medical bay inhabitants hostage. Ratchet agreed, and he used Pretender technology to repair Starscream while secretly repairing Grimlock, Jazz, and Goldbug as well. After Pretender Starscream was sent to Earth, Megatron sought out Ratchet to kill him. Ratchet sprung his surprise on Megatron, but Megatron and his Micromasters were too powerful for them. The Pretenders and Micromasters' battle wandered outside the Decepticon base, and Ratchet was left alone. Sacrificing his life, Ratchet warped the bombs Blackjack had put on the Ark into the Decepticon base in an attempt to kill both he and Megatron. Megatron tried to escape through the warp portal, but Ratchet tackled him, and the base exploded.

Optimus Prime was devastated by the loss of Ratchet. He assigned the detective Nightbeat to investigate Ratchet's death, who hypothesized that Ratchet could possibly still be alive. There was an initial blast which could have knocked Ratchet into the portal and into Unspace, a netherworld between the warp portal's starting and ending points. A probe was sent to retrieve him, and it succeeded -- but it also brought back Megatron, who was fused with Ratchet as a single, monstrous being. The Ratchet/Megatron creature rampaged through the Ark, wounding several Autobots, but Optimus Prime would not let them harm it. This put Optimus Prime in an awkward position -- was the life of Ratchet worth the possible loss of his other troops? The creature fought his way into the engine rooms and began tearing stuf apart, and Prime's choice was made for him. The creature must be stopped. Prime fought Ratchet/Megatron to a standstill, and, alarmingly, the part that was Ratchet took control, and pulled Prime's gun to his own forehead, pleading for the Autobot Commander to put him out of his misery.

In an unpopular decision, Optimus Prime ordered Fixit to separate Megatron and Ratchet, even if it meant saving Megatron. Bonded at a molecular level, neither could survive without the other, even when separated. Separated, they remained in stasis on the Ark until Grimlock and his Nucleon-revived Dinobots found the Ark abandoned during the Transformers' battle with Unicron. They filled the entire medical bay chambers with Nucleon, not aware that Megatron lay there in storage. Shockwave and Starscream stole the Ark after Unicron was defeated, in an attempt to return to Earth and conquer it. However, just as Megatron awoke, Starscream and Shockwave were interrupted by Galvatron II, who had snuck on board before launch. While Galvatron and Megatron teamed up on Shockwave, Starscream went to check on any other possible survivors in the medical bay. He found Ratchet, whose mind was still connected to Megatron's, and Starscream fought the confused Autobot easily. However, when Starscream mused that Ratchet was no fun to kill, Ratchet became enraged and defeated him in a berserker state. Determined to end what he had started, Ratchet blew up the Ark as it was approaching Earth's orbit, sending all three Decepticons and himself to a supposed death.

(Note: In the Generation 2 comics, despite Megatron and Ratchet's inseparable mind-link, Megatron's return was without Ratchet, who is unmentioned outside of Optimus Prime's flashbacks.)
Ratchet served as chief medical officer on the Ark before and after it crashed on Earth and stranded the Autobots and Decepticons there. In addition to patching up his fellow warriors whenever someone (usually Megatron) had roughed them up a little, Ratchet was also in charge of helping whenever Wheeljack had another invention in the making. Working together, the two Autobots built and designed the Dinobots more or less from scratch - and did a pretty good job, considering they were working with substandard materials. Ratchet was also responsible for saving Optimus Prime's life, performing a daring surgery on the Autobot leader while subjected to attacks by Laserbeak. When Skyfire refused to assassinate the Autobots and was gunned down by Starscream, it was Ratchet who reconstructed the giant Decepticon scientist and gave him the chance to reform.

Ratchet's greatest strength, unfortunately, also led to his downfall. While piloting a secret mission to Autobot City in order to gather a stockpile of energon, Ratchet and his allies were attacked by Megatron. In the middle of the fighting, Ratchet was distracted when his comrade Ironhide was struck down. Lowering his guard, Ratchet himself was then shot repeatedly and left for dead on the floor of the shuttle as the Decepticons continued with their attack on Autobot City. Ratchet's corpse was recovered after the battle, and left to lie in state aboard a funeral satellite with all of the other Autobots who fell that day. Sadly, it was not Ratchet's fate to rest in peace: his body was destroyed along with the rest of the satellite when it was obliterated during an attack by Galvatron.
8.2 million years ago, Ratchet accompanied Optimus Prime, Prowl, and red Alert to the Sub-Orbital District of Iacon, which had been devastated after Megatron activated the planetary engines. He found no life signs in the entire blast radius.

600 000 years later, Ratchet remained with the Prowl-led Autobots after Optimus Prime disappeared in a space bridge explosion. He repaired Skids after he was damaged in a battle with Trypticon.

Ratchet was among the crew of the Ark when it crashed on Earth, and awoke in 1984 to battle the Decepticons. After years of fighting, Ratchet and the other Autobots took part in Operation Liberation in 1998, a joint human/Autobot operation that defeated and captured the Earth-bound Decepticons. However, the Ark II, which was meant to convey the Autobots, the captured Decepticons, and a number of humans back to Cybertron was sabotaged by General Robert Hallo, sending Ratchet and his comrades to the bottom of the Arctic Ocean. Years later, Ratchet was recovered by the sinister Lazarus, who had recovered and reprogrammed a number of Transformers for his nefarious ends. However, when Megatron broke free of Lazarus' control, he hooked Ratchet and a number of other Autobots up to a device that generated a deadly 'metal virus'. Soon after, Optimus Prime detached Ratchet and the others from the doomsday device.

Repaired by his comrades, Ratchet took part in a battle in the Canadian Arctic with the Decepticons over possession of a crashed spacecraft containing Scourge. As the Autobots overwhelmed their foes, Shockwave arrived on the planet and gave them an ultimatum; surrender and return to a newly-unified Cybertron, or be destroyed. The Autobots returned to the Ark, where Optimus Prime assigned Ratchet to a Jazz-led team that was to remain on Earth. After Shockwave's lieutenant Ultra Magnus took Prime and others back to Cybertron, Ratchet and Wheeljack remained at the Ark as Jazz, Brawn, and Windcharger attempted to locate Scourge and his ship.

When Starscream and a team of Decepticons arrived on Earth they attacked the Ark's inhabitants, wanting the starship for themselves. In the initial assault, the Autobots managed to take Soundwave, his cassettes, Thundercracker, and Skywarp prisoner, but eventually all the Autobots but Ratchet and Brawn were defeated by the mighty Bruticus. Expecting a supply ship from Cybertron later that day, Ratchet and Brawn slipped past the Ark's beserk defense systems in order to contact the ship and warn them. Unfortunately, Bruticus arrived soon after, and they were forced to destroy the Ark rather than let the Decepticons have access to Teletraan-1. Before the battle could escalate further, it was interrupted by the arrival of Sunstorm, a Seeker seemingly powered by supernatural forces. An uneasy truce was formed between the small group of Autobots and Decepticons, and Ratchet begrudgingly put his medic skills to work on Starscream.

Ratchet later aided in the construction of Autobot City.

In an alternate timeline, a newly-formed human terrorist organization named Cobra uncovered the Ark buried in a dormant volcano. Finding two armies of giant transformable robots, they repurposed these aliens for their own use, rebuilding them so they could reconfigure into various Cobra-designed vehicles. Ratchet was reprogrammed and rebuilt into a Cobra HISS tank. Optimus Prime was able to break free from his reprogramming and awaken the other Transformers and, with the help of the human anti-terrorist task-force G.I.Joe, defeated Megatron and Cobra. An alliance between the Autobots and the United States government was formed.

A malfuction in Teletran-3 sent dozens of Transformers into various points in history, an act which, if unreversed, will result in a perpetual holocaust to be unleashed across Earth. To retrieve one Transformer and bring him home, a team of Cobra and G.I. Joe agents were sent 15 years into an apocalyptic future where Shockwave and his Decepticons rule. The remaining cyborged humans had formed a resistance which had only one lone Autobot warrior who stood between them and utter annihilation. The last Autobot alive, Ratchet had grown bitter and battlehardened after years of guerilla warfare, and demanded the team sent to bring him back to the present day help him complete one more mission. Ratchet, the Joes, and the Cobra agents were successful in freeing a factory nearby was manned by enslaved humans, but Ratchet refused to go home with them and abandon his calling. Barbeque returned Ratchet home against his wishes, and as Ratchet cursed the stupid little creature, the Shockwave of the present day shot Ratchet in the back, putting him out of commission.

Later, when Serpent O.R. takes Optimus Prime prisoner, Ratchet (still in his post-apocalyptic body) is part of Hot Rod's rescue team.
Ratchet is part of a detachment of Autobots that has operated covertly on Earth for at least four years, attempting to foil a Decepticon insurgency. Although a loyal warrior, Ratchet's conscience got the better of him when he intercepted a Decepticon pulsewave ordering the elimination of a human being.
Ratchet was seemingly alone in his convinctions, until Bumblebee agreed to help him and the humans investigate an abandoned Decepticon bunker in Nebraska. Blitzwing and Skywarp arrived while the humans were reconnoitering and began an aerial bombardment of the bunker, intending to destroy it. Bumblebee and Ratchet engaged the Decepticons in order to buy the humans time to escape the collapsing bunker.

The Autobots and humans were leaving the Decepticons to finish their work when an enraged Megatron burst from the buried ruins of the bunker. Thankfully for them, Megatron was more concerned with the treachery of Blitzwing and Skywarp, allowing Ratchet and the others to escape with their lives. Unwilling to further risk their safety, Ratchet subsequently returned the humans to Ark-17, where they met the newly-arrived Optimus Prime.
Years after the Decepticon and Autobot Wars have ended, Ratchet and five other Autobots were sent to Ceti Alpha Seven to destroy General Deathsaurus' Insecticon clone lab and stop his planned Decepticon uprising. After a team of four (consisting of Fallback, Chromia, Flareup, and Ricochet) failed, Ratchet and Ironhide followed to help. After battling swarms of Virulent Clones and Buzzclaw, they finally met up with Deathsaurus himself. Ironhide stayed to fight the general, and Ratchet separated to find their fallen friends.

Ratchet managed to gather the fallen but was captured by Deathsaurus along with Ironhide. Both were restrained inside the lab, which was set to detonate. Before this happened, Ricochet snuck in and freed them, allowing them to gather the wounded and escape as the clone lab was destroyed.

: Ratchet was originally a Onebox Ambulance Type toy from Takara's Diaclone line before Hasbro brought Transformers to North America. The toy transformed from an ambulance to a robot and gun-station. A variant of the toy included red crosses on the top and sides of the vehicle. Ratchet and his retool/redeco buddy Ironhide, like all Diaclones, were designed to be piloted mecha, which is why he has a seat instead of a head. The Transformers version applied a face sticker to the back of the seat in lieu of a real sculpted noggin.

: In 1990, he was issued again in Europe as part of the Classics line and in 2001, he was reissued in Japan as an e-Hobby exclusive, paired with Ironhide. It is worth noting that Ratchet was originally only available as a mail-away during the original Japanese run.
* Autobot Ratchet & Flareup (2005)
: One of two "souvenir" packages exclusive to 2005, Ratchet is a retooling of the Energon Autobot Tow-Line with a new head, transforming into a large utility van. In robot mode, his lower vehicle portion becomes a mobile battle/repair platform. The mold's standard "receiver dish" weapon was not produced; instead he came with a new "light bar" that pegged onto his roof in much the same manner. He could only be purchased along with Flareup.

Merchandise
A non-transformable PVC figurine of Ratchet was made for "Act 6" of Takara's Super Collection Figure line, a slight retooling of the Ironhide PVC with a new head and "gun"-hand (even though Ironhide's pelvis in animation was not the same as Ratchet's). He was placed in blind-packed boxes, and along with full-color versions, an all-pewter-finish version was made as well in equal numbers.

For the Hasbro Heroes of Cybertron version of SCF, Ratchet was cast entirely in clear-blue plastics then painted over completely, so a patch of unpainted plastic at the back of his head would emulate the light piping effect of previous toys. He was part of the fifth and final wave of Heroes of Cybertron, and came with the right leg to the "build-a-bot" large PVC of Metroplex.

Wreck-Gar is an Autobot-allied Junkion from the Generation 1 franchise.

Wreck-Gar is the leader of the Junkions, a tribe (or possibly race) of junk-robot Transformers who call the planet Junkion "home sweet home". Like all Junkions, Wreck-Gar's speech is a hodge-podge mish-mash of phrases taken from Earth broadcasting, especially television, which has become the focal point of Junkion culture. He is generally suspicious of strangers, but once he considers you a friend, he's a steadfast and selfless individual. He oversees his people's daily activities of "sorting" through their planet's collection of scrap, though what basis they use to sort the material has yet to be identified. He seems to have some sort of relationship with a Junkion lady named Nancy.

In battle, Wreck-Gar is easy to knock down, but near-impossible to keep down, thanks to the very unique physiology of the Junkions. He tends to lose pieces easily when he takes damage, but he can repair that damage with lightning speed, and it's possible that even if he's reduced to a pile of parts it's only a short time before he's back on his feet again swinging his axe. This rapid-healing ability reaches almost instantaneous speed on his home planet of Junk, or anywhere he can get his hands on scrap metal. Many would-be conquerors have mistaken the Junkions for harmless idiots. Most of them are currently scattered across the rusted surface of Junk.
At first Wreck-Gar views the Autobots as thieves and enemies. Attacking without warning after Ultra Magnus' 'death', Wreck-Gar and his fellow Junkions soon learn that they were wrong. Wreck-Gar fights Springer for a while, before being taken down by Daniel Witwicky, with a steel bar to the back of the head.

Following their defeat and the arrival of Hot Rod, Kup, Wheelie and the Dinobots--and subsequent pacification with the Universal Greeting, Wreck-Gar has the Junkions rebuild Ultra Magnus, and dance with the Autobots to "Weird Al" Yankovic until they decide maybe they should protect Cybertron from Unicron after all.

After boogying down for an unspecified amount of time, the Junkions reveal their rather cruddy-looking ship to the Autobots and prepare to destroy Unicron, kill the Grand Poobah, and remove even the toughest stains.

Against Unicron, Wreck-Gar doesn't inflict much damage, really. Revealing the Junkions as mostly bluster, they fly around annoying Unicron until the ship is crushed by Unicron's hand.

Wreck-Gar survived as did Perceptor, appearing with the rest of Rodimus Prime's Autobot team. He took over from Ratchet as the team's main surgeon, after these events.
When an Autobot Shuttle is forced to land on The Junk Planet for repairs, Blurr catches the attention of Wreck-Gar. Wreck-Gar is impressed by Blurr's powerful engine... and decides he wants it! He attacks the Autobots with a horde of Junkions, intent on hacking the still-sputtering engine from Blurr's body, and fights Springer in the process.

The misunderstanding comes to an end when Kup, an old hand at negotiating with natives, locates their missing shuttle and instead engages the Junkions in a barter session, trading weapons and energon. The Junkions wave as their new friends depart with all their parts intact.
Wreck-Gar found the chassis of the near-dead Megatron floating in space, where it had been abandoned by Starscream while on a supply run. Wreck-Gar brought Megatron back on-line, and even salvaged several Air Warrior drone bodies from the surface of Junk for him so he could reclaim his position ad leader of the Decepticons. For his efforts, Megatron stabbed Wreck-Gar through the chest.

(Note: Dreamwave declared bankruptcy before many of its plot threads could be resolved. Due to the Junkions' rapid-repair, very-hard-to-kill physiology, it seems unlikely that Wreck-Gar was a fatality.)

Legends anthology
"Collect and Save" by Tim Waggoner

When the Recyclons arrived on Junk, intending to convert the planet into energon for their overseers the Harvest Lords of Sigrath, Wreck-Gar apprached the leader Salvage, and got two blaster bolts in the chest. After a near-instantaneous repair job, Wreck-Gar called out his fellows and swarmed the Recyclons, severely damaging them and forcing them to retreat to their ship the Reclamation and lift off.

Salvage returned to the planet's surface, leaving the Reclamation in orbit, in order to make peace with Wreck-Gar. But it was all a ruse; Salavge slapped a device on Wreck-Gar, a more powerful version of the Junkion leader's own decelerator laser, preventing him from attacking or calling his people while the orbiting Recyclons fired a beam from the Prime Processing Unit to convert the planet to energon from space. However, Wreck-Gar proved even stronger than Salvage expected, and he called the Junkions to fire a tractor beam at the Reclamation, sending it crashing into Junk seconds before the Prime Processing Unit activated, causing the ship to explode. Salvage himself lived only a few seconds more than his fellows, as the Junkions closed in on him immediately afterwards.
Generation 1
*Wreck-Gar (Autobot Hero, 1986)
: Japanese ID number: C-81

: Wreck-Gar's only toy transforms into a Cybertronic "junk" motorcycle, and is noteworthy for being one of the earliest uses of ball-and-socket joints in the Transformers toy line. The original toy commercial portrayed him as a Decepticon, presumably to keep with the theme of the movie and not spoil a surprise... even though the toy was always labelled and packaged as an Autobot.

: Unfortunately, two Wreck-Gar toys are completely incapable of riding one another, as seen in the movie.

: For nearly 20 years, Wreck-Gar was the only Junkion toy, until the creation of the e-Hobby exclusive Detritus.

Merchandise
A plastic "super deformed" mini-figurine of Wreck-Gar was created as part of the second wave of MyClone Transformers in Japan. These toys could be disassembled and their parts mixed-and-matched thanks to a generic base body. In Wreck-Gar's case, this is especially appropriate.

Trivia
*In Wreck-Gar's starring toy commercial, he is voiced by Frank Welker rather than Tony Pope.

Galvatron is a Decepticon in the Generation 1 continuity.

Galvatron is a force of nature. Born from the machinations of Unicron himself, Galvatron is madness and power combined, given form. He is blinded and consumed by his lust for power, his whims and desires at the mercy of the moment. Not even his own subordinates are safe. Though he is not beyond the capacity for long-term goals, it is his unpredictability and his casual disregard for any and all life that strikes such horror in friend and foe alike.

Before Unicron wrapped his dark hands around him, Galvatron once was Megatron, but whether any fragment of the legendary Decepticon leader remains is subject for heated debate.

Fiction
Animated continuity
Voice actors: Leonard Nimoy, Frank Welker (US); Seizō Katō (Japan)

In 2005, after being mortally wounded in battle with Optimus Prime, Decepticon Emperor of Destruction, Megatron, was left to float aimlessly through space. He was summoned by Unicron, who offered him a new body and new troops to command, so long as he destroyed the Autobot Matrix of Leadership. Megatron reluctantly accepted and was upgraded into Galvatron, a more fearsome and powerful warrior.

Galvatron quickly retook command of the Decepticons after killing the traitorous Starscream in the middle of his coronation. He then went to Earth and attacked Autobot City, full-force. Ultra Magnus lead him away from Earth and Galvatron chased him to the Planet of Junk, where he defeated Magnus and took the Matrix, intending to use it against Unicron.

Galvatron could not open the Matrix, however, and as punishment for his treachory, Unicron swallowed him whole. Inside Unicron's belly, he met up with Hot Rod, and they got into a fight. Hot Rod retook the Matrix, morphing himself into Rodimus Prime, and hurled Galvatron's ass out the side of Unicron and into deep space. But that was not the end of Galvatron.

In the year 2006 (or 2010, if you're Japanese), Cyclonus and Scourge set out to find their lost leader and return the Decepticons to glory. They found him sunk in a lava pit on the distant planet Thrull and managed to free him. However, the effects of the "plasma bath" royally screwed-up Galvatron's sanity chips, turning him certifiably nuts. Upon regaining his freedom he beat Cyclonus and Scourge up and completely destroyed Thrull.

Galvatron lead the Decepticons on many wacky adventures against the Autobots, though usually botching it in the end due to his craziness (he loved shooting his own troops). At one point, his nuttiness became so severe, the perpetually-loyal Cyclonus actually tricked Galvatron into taking therapy sessions (albeit, by force) on Torkulon, the therapy-planet. After trying to murder a shrink during a word-association session, and building a gun in a basket-weaving class, somehow, Galvatron was deemed incurable by conventional methods. The doctors attempted to use living extensions of the planet to give him a lobotomy (much to Cyclonus' disapproval), but Galvatron broke free and murdered the sentient organic core of the planet. After that, he razed the entire planet's civilization, leaving them so broken it would take centuries to rebuild.

However, despite his insanity, he teamed-up with the resurrected Optimus Prime to stop the Hate Plague. He wound-up becoming infected by the plague and attempted to kill an unconsciouss Optimus Prime with a spear. Optimus woke up just in the nick of time and opened the Matrix directly in Galvatron's face. The wisdom of the Matrix not only cured the Universe of the Hate Plague, but cured Galvatron of his madness, as well. Grateful, Galvatron sanely declared "There will be no war today, Optimus. You have earned Galvatron's respect" and called a brief truce.

Later, Galvatron called the truce off and attacked Autobot City in full-force, searching for the Key to the Plasma Energy Chamber. He got the Key and intended to use it and the Plasma Energy to turn Cybertron into a mobile dreadnaut. He teamed with the Transformer-Nebulon hybrid, Lord Zarak, but they were eventually defeated and sent tumbling through space when Cybertron ushered in a new Golden Age. After regaining control, Galvatron vowed to collect energy all over the galaxy and return to Cybertron, though Scorponok seemed to question his leadership.

Headmasters
(The Headmasters Anime ignores the events of the 3-part "The Rebirth" story arc and picks up after "The Return of Optimus Prime")

In 2011, Galvatron reactivated the Decepticon Space Bridge on Cybertron and began a sneak-attack on the Autobots. He intended to hack into Vector Sigma, though was thwarted just in time. The battle did result in yet another death for Optimus Prime.

Later Scorponok, Galvatron's new mysterious assistant from Planet Master, went against Galvatron's orders and placed bombs all around Vector Sigma. Galvatron rushed to Vector Sigma but could not get the bombs off in time and was caught in the world-destroying explosion.

Galvatron was thought dead for some time, until he returned alive and well a few months later. He retook Decepticon command and enacted a new devious plot. Galvatron intended to transform Earth into his new Unicron-like body, making him all-powerful. He told this news only to his most trusted warrior, Sixshot, and also delivered the news that he intended to sacrifice all the Decepticons for parts to build the body. Not a good idea, as Sixshot betrayed him to Scorponok and Galvatron was left all alone to Battle the Autobot Headmasters in the North Pole. Galvatron was defeated by the "Head-Formation of Friendship" and buried alive deep within an iceberg.

Galvatron would remain buried in the ice until Battlestars, where he was resurrected by Dark Nova as the new and improved Super Megatron.

Manga continuity
Galvatron appeared regularly through-out the Japanese 2010 and Headmasters manga, which acted as a suppliment to the animated shows. Some of his devious schemes from the manga included creating a clone army of Megatrons, dubbed the Megatron Military, and forcing a human scientist named Dalton to create weapons of destruction for him. He even fought alonside his nemesis Rodimus Prime against Guiltor, a strange fusion of Optimus Prime and Megatron that threatened to destroy both leaders.

Marvel Comics continuity
(Events from the UK-only comics are in italics.)

There were multiple Galvatrons from various alternate futures who often time-jumped to give the Autobots trouble. There are between 2 and 5 different Galvatrons; the exact number remaining inconclusive.

Galvatron I
After being scolded by Unicron during the events of Transformers: The Movie, Galvatron was ordered to attack Earth and destroy the Matrix. He ordered "Decepticons, to Earth!", but what he REALLY meant was Earth...1986!

Time-jumping from the year 2006, and freeing himself from Unicron's control, Galvatron intended to create a device that would be powerful enough to destroy Unicron in 2006. Galvatron brought Cyclonus and Scourge with himself, and as an effect of time-travel, replaced three Autobots (one of which being Optimus Prime) in the timeline. Galvatron began construction of a massive laser cannon which he would then hide on Earth and unleash on an unsuspecting Unicron when the time was right.

The Autobots and Decepticons weren't having none of that and briefly formed an alliance to stop the three Decepticons of the future. The plan wasn't going very well until Hot Rod, Blurr and Kup came back from the future to help. Present-day Ultra Magnus also arrived to help and heroically kept Galvatron occupied as the Autobots and Decepticons set-up a trap.

Galvatron mopped the floor with Ultra Magnus and returned to his laser cannon. He then ran into what he thought was Starscream (but, in fact, was an unconsciouss Skywarp in disguise), and in a fit of anger, blew him up. After a second he realized that if he destroyed Starscream in the past, how could he have destroyed him in the future? Figuring that he was in an alternate past, and thus, no action taken then would effect his future, Galvatron and his troops returned to their proper time. The Autobots and Decepticons subsequently destroyed the laser cannon and called off the truce.

Galvatron II
See Galvatron II

Other versions of Galvatron
A Galvatron claiming to be no other Galvatron the Autobots had met before, snuck into the Autobot crypt and implanted devices that would read the memories of various dead Autobots. He chose to read the memories of Prowl, Wheeljack, Sunstreaker, Silverbolt and Ironhide. What he didn't know was that the device he placed in their bodies actually managed to revive them from the dead! Alive, but hopelessly out-matched, the Autobots concocted a plan to defeat Galvatron. They kept him busy in battle while Wheeljack placed a helmet on his head which would deactivate him and leave him imprisoned in a "sleep mode". Within this sleep mode, Galvatron was forced to forever relive his worst nightmare (being dismembered by Rodimus Prime) over and over and over...

Galvatron was seen, in Rodimus Prime's flashback, when Unicron attacked in 2010. There is no conclusive evidence on surrounding events, so it remains unknown if this is a previously seen Galvatron or yet another incarnation. It's not even known which timeline this took place in.

Dreamwave Armada comic
An alternate version of Galvatron appears briefly as one of Unicron's heralds, along with Thunderwing, Bludgeon, Dirge, and Scourge. He is ultimately destroyed by Megatron with the power of the Dark Saber.
