:''Hot Rod is an Autobot in the [[Generation 1]] continuity family. He has also been known as '''Rodimus Prime''', '''Rodimus''', and '''Rodimus Major'''.''

[[Image:DVDbox3d1.jpg|right|301px|thumb|Opening the Matrix gives you wrinkles.]]

'''Hot Rod''' is brash and headstrong, with an overwhelming self-confidence that borders on arrogance. [[Kup]] has assumed the role of mentor and advisor to the impetuous young Hot Rod, offering him wisdom and advice when he needs it (though Hot Rod rarely feels that he does, much to Kup's annoyance). [[Arcee (G1)|Arcee]], a female Autobot, also serves as a calming influence on Hot Rod, and tends to either worry about him when he is not around, or deride and tease him when he is. Their relationship is antagonistic, but friendly. Exactly how deep Hot Rod's feelings for Arcee might run is unknown, whether they be friendly, romantic, or otherwise.

In contrast, his '''Rodimus Prime''' persona - while still headstrong and stubborn - seems to suffer from a severe lack of confidence, often doubting his own decisions and expressing distress over his position as an [[Prime (rank)|Autobot leader]]. Of course, much of this comes from having immediately succeeded command from [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]]&mdash;and let's face it, shoes-to-be-filled just don't ''get'' much bigger than that.

One thing that both sides of this Autobot's identity have in common is their impatience - neither Hot Rod nor Rodimus Prime can stand to wait around when they could be doing something instead. He is also very self-reliant, rarely sending others to do anything when he could be doing it himself. His [[Targetmaster]] partner is [[Firebolt (G1)|'''Firebolt''']].
In the year 2001, Hot Rod was on guard duty at the construction site of [[Autobot City]] on [[Earth]] while the main Autobot forces were evacuating from the Decepticon-conquered [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]]. As he was complained about his boring assignment to [[Spike Witwicky]], the Decepticon [[Soundwave (G1)|Soundwave]] struck, intent on stealing the [[Autobot Matrix of Leadership]] which Optimus Prime had secreted in a bunker at the building site. When he reclaimed the Matrix, Hot Rod recieved a vision of the future where he fought [[Galvatron (G1)|a powerful Decepticon]]. After returning the Matrix to Optimus Prime, the Autobot leader considered that perhaps Hot Rod's destiny was greater than any of them realized. Kup thought differently, however. {{Storylink|Madman Transformers Comic}}

In 2005, Hot Rod was one of the many Autobots based in the completed Autobot City. He was close friends with the young human [[Daniel Witwicky]], and seemed to have a reputation for being something of a trouble-maker, judging from a few of Kup's comments to him at the time. Realizing that the Decepticons were invading, Hot Rod opened fire on their stolen shuttle and exposed their ruse before Megatron could enter the city. Although this did give the rest of the Autobots time to begin transforming Autobot City and raising their defenses, it also left Hot Rod trapped outside with Kup and Daniel. After defeating the Decepticons [[Blitzwing (G1)|Blitzwing]] and [[Shrapnel (G1)|Shrapnel]] with some help from Kup, Hot Rod managed to find a way inside the fortress city and took part in its defense. During [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime's]] battle with [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]], Hot Rod intervened in an attempt to help, but succeeded only in giving Megatron the chance he needed to mortally wound the Autobot leader.

After Prime's death, Autobot City was attacked again—by [[Galvatron (G1)|Galvatron]]. While escaping, Hot Rod and Kup (and the [[Dinobot (G1)|Dinobots]]) were separated from the rest of the Autobots and crashed on the planet [[Quintessa]]. There, Hot Rod met the Quintessons, an enemy who would haunt him for some time later. After escaping their sadistic trial and attempted execution (as well as meeting [[Wheelie (G1)|Wheelie]]), Hot Rod went on to the planet [[Junk]], where he was just in time to stop [[Wreck-Gar (G1)|Wreck-Gar]] from destroying the rest of the Autobot City refugees with a timely use of the [[Universal greeting]]. Together, they all traveled to [[Cybertron]] to stop [[Unicron]] before he could eat more than just its moons.

[[Image:RodimusPrimeMovie1.jpg |left|200px|thumb|"Stop putting in captions that are just blatantly not funny!"]]

Inside of Unicron, Hot Rod was separated from the rest of his team when their ship crashed (something which happens to Hot Rod a lot). Alone, he found himself facing [[Galvatron (G1)|Galvatron]] in a battle to the death over the Autobot Matrix of Leadership. Claiming the Matrix, Hot Rod evolved into "Rodimus Prime", an older, larger, and more powerful version of himself. After overpowering Galvatron and hurling him through Unicron's hide, into the void of space, he opened the Matrix and destroyed Unicron from within. {{Storylink|The Transformers: The Movie}}

Peace reigned on Cybertron for at least long enough to put up some of the more important buildings, and Rodimus Prime began to ease into his role as the new Autobot leader. When Ultra Magnus and Spike Witwicky were kidnapped during a [[Galactic Olympics]], it was Rodimus who spied on the Decepticons with [[Grimlock (G1)|Grimlock]] to determine if they were the ones who had done it. The way Rodimus had it figured, the Decepticons were usually behind everything anyway, so they seemed like a good enough place to start. After getting caught and severely beaten by the Decepticons (who were innocent of the kidnapping, but not really fans of his anyway), Rodimus was able to interface with the Matrix and learned about the origins of the Transformer race. He also learned that his old enemies, the Quintessons, were back and looking to destroy every Transformer in existence. Making things worse, Galvatron soon returned as well, and the war that everyone had assumed was safely over quickly started up again. {{Storylink|Five Faces of Darkness}}

Throughout 2006, Rodimus Prime's greatest achievements both revolved around his predecessor, [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]]. While fleeing from a Decepticon attack, Rodimus and several other Autobots took refuge in a massive Autobot mausoleum and discovered that their former leader seemed to have returned to life. Perhaps a little too trusting of Optimus (and possibly eager to relieve himself of the burden of leadership), Rodimus quickly passed the Matrix back to Optimus and, much to his glee, reverted back into Hot Rod. His happiness was short-lived, however, as Optimus was quickly revealed to be nothing more than a puppet of the Quintessons, sent to trick the Autobots into an ambush from which none of them would escape. With no other choice, Hot Rod was forced to do battle with Optimus Prime for the fate of the Autobots. Although their duel was clearly in the favor of the more powerful Optimus, Hot Rod was able to re-awaken the true spirit of his leader. Returning the Matrix to Rodimus, Optimus then piloted his ship into the heart of the ambush and sacrificed himself to save them all. {{Storylink|Dark Awakening}}

[[Image:HotRodReturnOfOptimusPrime1.jpg |right|200px|thumb|"Does my thumb look infected to you?"]]

Or so it had seemed at the time. As was so often the case for Rodimus, things did not quite wrap up as tidily as he might have hoped. Far from being destroyed, Optimus had been retrieved by a team of human scientists who were hoping to use him (again) as a weapon against the Autobots—this time as the bearer of a malignant "Hate Plague" that would cause them to destroy each other. When he learned of this, Rodimus swiftly formed a rescue party and led them to retrieve Optimus's body so that their former leader could rest in peace. When all of the rest of the Autobots with him were exposed to the Hate Plague, only Rodimus was able to escape unharmed—and with the still uninfected body of Optimus. Returning to Autobot City, Rodimus ordered [[Sky Lynx (G1)|Sky-Lynx]] to find a Quintesson to repair Optimus, then risked his life to shut down [[Metroplex (G1)|Metroplex]] before the Plague could spread to it. Attacked by Ultra Magnus and Wreck-Gar in the process, he succumbed to the plague and became infected with hate. {{Storylink|The Return of Optimus Prime, Part 1}} In order to stop the Plague, the resurrected Optimus had to defeat the crazed Rodimus and forcibly extract the Matrix from him, changing him back into Hot Rod once more. This time, as Optimus had decided to stick around, the change was a permanent one. {{Storylink|The Return of Optimus Prime, Part 2}}

Even after losing his position as Autobot leader, Hot Rod was not the sort to rest on his laurels. In 2007, he was among a group of Autobots who were caught in a blast from the [[plasma energy|Plasma Energy Chamber]] and shot across the galaxy to the planet [[Nebulos]]. {{storylink|The Rebirth, Part 1}} There, the Autobots fell in with a group of native rebels and aided them in opposing the tyrannical rule of the dictatorial [[Hive (G1)|Hive]]{{m-}}a partnership that ultimately evolved into [[binary bonding]], the fusion of Transformer and Nebulan into [[Headmaster]]s and [[Targetmaster]]s. {{storylink|The Rebirth, Part 2}} Hot Rod was linked to the Nebulan sharpshooter Firebolt, and went on to aid in the defence of Cybertron as Galvatron attempted to use the Plasma Energy Chamber to destroy it. {{storylink|The Rebirth, Part 3}}

Rodimus has a tendency to say insensitive, stupid things to people in dire situations, such as joking about humans suffocating to death,{{Storylink|Dark Awakening}} or ripping on someone's home planet while it's being destroyed {{storylink|Fight or Flee}}.

'''Voice actors:''' [[Ryōtarō Okiayu]] (Japanese)

When Rodimus Prime hurled Galvatron into space at the conclusion of their battle within Unicron, he could not have predicted the tragic result of this action. Galvatron crash-landed on Earth, on top of Tokyo, [[Japan]], devastating the city and sparking off a massive anti-Transformer movement spearheaded by the Earth Defense Command. Horrified by what his actions had wrought, Rodimus gave up the Matrix to Ultra Magnus, reverted to Hot Rod once more, and returned to the human homeworld.

[[Image:HotRodKP.jpg|left|thumb|Flames on his arms and a naked girl in his tummy.]]

As he descended to Earth, Hot Rod was badly damaged by the [[anti-electron]] field that the E.D.C. had set up around the planet. Arriving at the E.D.C. headquarters, Hot Rod interrupted a grotesque experiment in a basement laboratory involving the severed heads of various [[Legion]] (monstrous creatures created by Galvatron's scattered cells) and former E.D.C. operative [[Shaoshao Li]]. The Legion attacked Hot Rod and began to [[ParasiTech|fuse]] with him, but a [[kiss]] from Shaoshao{{m-}}one of the E.D.C.'s [[Kiss Player]] operatives, also given fusing powers by Galvatron's cells{{m-}}saved him, reformatting him into a Ford GT body. Now partnered with Shaoshao, he traveled around [[Japan]] battling the E.D.C., Legion, and the resurrected Optimus Prime.

Hot Rod was cocky and confident in his speed and sharpshooting skills, and often weathered his human partner's complaints that he was slacking off on his hand-to-hand combat training. He much prefered to practice kissing, the resulting fusion granting him Shao's considerable martial arts skills as well as the ability to wield his firearms as [[wikipedia:tonfa|tonfas]]. In return, he stole [[Marissa Faireborn]]'s underwear for her.

He continued to enjoy fishing and carried a customized rod that he could convert into a forearm-mounted weapon called the "Exhaust Eliminator". Shaoshao didn't like working with him after a fishing trip due to the smell, but she secretly wished that he would take her with him anyway. Hot Rod was very suspicious of Optimus Prime, claiming that he was not the ''real'' Optimus, presumably because he still believed his former commander to be dead following the Battle of Autobot City.

Hot Rod had the distinction of being the only known robot with a Kiss Player partner to have lips. This might have contributed to Shao's feelings of excitement when she kissed him, though the rest of the time she acted outraged that a robot would have the audacity to talk to her like a real person.

After numerous battles, Hot Rod and his human partner settled their differences with Prime. Together, they teamed up with the E.D.C. Kiss Player [[Atari Hitotonari]] and her [[Autrooper]] and entered the secret "Genital System" facility hidden beneath E.D.C. headquarters in Tokyo. There, they discovered Galvatron's headless body and realized that the only way to end the current crisis was to allow the Unicron-empowered Decepticon's cells to return to his body. When Hot Rod did so, he was restored to his original body. {{storylink|Kiss Players (fiction)|Kiss Players}}

Hot Rod went on his way, but did not take back the Matrix and leadership of the Autobots until the year 2010. It is unknown whether he ever discovered that the true cause of the Tokyo incident was temporal interference by the [[Sparkbot]]s.

====''The Transformer'' manga====

{{note|The events of this manga occur concurrently with the events of Generation 1 cartoon, as described above.}}

Rodimus Prime faced numerous bizarre challenges in the year 2010. In one instance, Rodimus and his troops were taken under siege by a horde of Megatron clones calling themselves the [[Megatron Military]]. The Megatron Military made short work of Rodimus, leaving him to wonder how he could defeat a whole horde of the baddie, when Optimus Prime could barely deal with ''one''. Rodimus eventually realized that Galvatron was secretly controlling the clones and singled him out. With Galvatron defeated, the Megatron Military ceased to function.

During another battle, he was forced to team with his arch-nemesis, Galvatron, to defeat the all-powerful [[Guiltar]]. Guiltar was a creation built by the [[Quintesson]]s utilizing the powers of both Optimus Prime and Megatron. Together, Rodimus and Galvatron defeated their foe (who it turned was being controlled by the ghost of [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream]]) and called off the truce.

====''The Headmasters'' anime and manga====

[[Image:DoubleConvoy1.jpg |left|200px|thumb|"Race ya to the Matrix!" "Yer on!"]]

One year after the Hate Plague affair and the resurrection of Optimus Prime, Hot Rod maintained a high-level position among the Autobots as well as a new sense of duty and responsibility. Hot Rod was stationed on [[Athenia]] when the Decepticons, bolstered with the addition of new Headmaster wariors, attacked Cybertron in an attempted to take control of [[Vector Sigma]], which had become destabilized as a result of the Matrix's energy being released. {{storylink|Four Warriors Come Out Of The Sky}} When a group of Autobot Headmasters arrived to help, Optimus Prime broke off from the battle and ventured into Cybertron's depths, hoping to find a way to stabilize Vector Sigma. This, however, would require the sacrifice of his own life if attempted without the Matrix, which was hidden somewhere on Earth, recharging. {{storylink|The Mystery of Planet Master}} Hot Rod and the Autobot Headmasters searched the Matrix out and returned to Cybertron with it, where the spirit of [[Alpha Trion]] recharged its empty shell, transforming Hot Rod back into Rodimus Prime. Optimus and Rodimus defeated the Decepticons together, but Optimus still wound up sacrificing himself to stabilize Vector Sigma, leaving Rodimus Prime in command of the Autobots once again. {{storylink|A Dream is Born, Double Prime}}

[[Image:Ep14.jpg|right|150px|thumb|He's so dreeeaaaaamyyyy.]]

Not long thereafter, a plot by Decepticon leader [[Scorponok (G1)|Scorponok]] resulted in a massive planetary explosion devastating Cybertron, leaving it a burnt-out husk. Deciding that his time was over, and that newer, younger Transformers should take over, Rodimus passed leadership of the Autobots to [[Fortress Maximus (G1)|Fortress]], and departed for space with Kup and Blurr to search for a new planet that the Transformers could make their own. Arcee asked if she could go, too, but Rodimus instructed her to stay behind to look after Daniel and Wheelie.

On his journey through space, Rodimus faced many dangers and hardships, but was supported by the wisdom with the Matrix and the energy of the Earth that now coursed within it. Learning a new admiration for the human race and the planet Earth, he returned to Earth in the wake of the defeat of Scorponok, and reunited with the Autobots.

====The Battlestars====

It would be many years before Rodimus resurfaced. He eventually returned at the same time as Optimus Prime was resurrected as Star Convoy, and was shown to have reverted back into Hot Rod, and been converted into a [[Micromaster]]. As a Micromaster, Hot Rod took up residence in [[Optimus Prime (G1)#The Battlestars|Star Convoy's]] chest, boosting his Supreme Commander's power.

During her travels through time and space, [[Teletraan 15]] encountered Micromater Hot Rod, who rescued her from a strange mechanical monster, a [[Great Novaroid|Novaroid]]. Teletraan 15 noted that Hot Rod was considerably smaller than she remembered him.

Hot Rod asked if she was the one responsible for all the [[Transwarp]] travel and blamed her for the wormholes that were opening everywhere. Spotting a large wormhole opening, he transformed to vehicle mode and told her to climb inside, saying that something big was coming.

[[Star Convoy]] appeared and requested Hot Rod's assistance, telling him that [[Megatron (G1)|Ultra Megatron]] was fusing with [[Dark Nova]].

As Hot Rod said his farewells to Teletraan 15, he was suddenly struck by an immense blast from the wormhole overhead. The shadowy form of [[Galvatron (G1)|Galvatron]] descended from the rip in the sky.

15 leaped in front of Hot Rod to protect him, and was rewarded for her heroism by seeing her right arm torn off by the Decepticon's power. The severed arm gripped in his teeth, Galvatron throttled the much smaller Hot Rod. As [[First Aid]] and [[Blades]] of the [[Protectobots]] raced toward her, Teletraan 15 faded into unconsciousness, leaving Hot Rod's fate and the outcome of the battle unknown.
====Generation 1====

{{note|Events from the UK-only comics are in italics, and are flippin' convoluted.}}

''Several hundred years ago, [[Fortress Maximus (G1)|Fortress Maximus]] dispatched Hot Rod and [[Blurr (G1)|Blurr]] to search for habitable worlds. During this mission, the pair ran afoul of some unpleasant aliens who captured Blurr and pursued Hot Rod through space. While fleeing, Hot Rod crossed paths with the Autobot war veteran, Kup, living a nomadic existence wandering through space at the time, and the youth's bravado re-ignited Kup's fighting spirit. After saving Hot Rod and helping him to rescue Blurr, Kup joined the pair in returning to Cybertron.'' {{storylink|Kup's Story!}}

Hot Rod was among the contingent of Transformers who ultimately accompanied Fortress Maximus in abandoning the war on Cybertron for a new world, Nebulos. The Autobots' arrival on the planet immediately stirred civil unrest, however, which lead to the Decepticons being brought to the planet, and the war continuing on a smaller scale. Technological advancements developed during the conflict saw Nebulans being bio-engineered into [[binary bonding|partnerships]] with the Transformers. Hot Rod became a Targetmaster, and was bonded the Nebulan sharpshooter, Firebolt (aka Sparks), who transformed into his gun. Eventually, the Autobots determined to move their war away from Nebulos, and followed a signal sent by [[Goldbug]], received by Hot Rod, to the planet [[Earth]]. {{storylink|Brothers in Armor!!}}

Hot Rod and the other Autobots of Nebulos were soon incorporated into the larger Autobot force on Earth, under the command of Optimus Prime. On one occasion, Hot Rod and several Autobots accompanied Prime on what appeared to be a simple mission to stop some Decepticon [[Micromaster]]s from attacking MacDill Air Force Base. {{storylink|Back from the Dead!}} In fact, the attack was part of a much larger scheme by the deposed Decepticon leader [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]], luring Prime and his forces away from the Ark and setting them against his rival for Decepticon leadership, the mighty [[Scorponok (G1)|Scorponok]]. Once Prime realized the greater threat at issue, he ordered his troops to immediately take the shuttle back to the Ark, but Hot Rod recklessly chose to stay behind at Optimus's side to face the Decepticons. {{storylink|All the Familiar Faces!}} He was therefore on-hand when the newly resurrected [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream]] arrived, and began tearing through all Transformers present, in the name of Megatron. He managed to take a shot at Starscream's new [[Pretender]] shell, causing enough neural feedback to temporarily weaken the Decepticon, and give Scorponok time to strike and end the threat. {{storylink|Skin Deep}}

The cost was still high, though, as Optimus Prime returned to the Ark and learned that his good friend, [[Ratchet (G1)|Ratchet]], had sacrificed himself to help stop Megatron's schemes. This sent the Autobot leader into a depression, and Hot Rod took it upon himself to snap Optimus out of it. He had the crazy scheme of creating a mock threat with a [[Guardian|Guardian Mark V battle droid]], with predictable results. The robot proceeded to ''actually'' malfunction and endanger the Autobots, but Hot Rod's plan worked when Prime eventually snapped out of his funk and defeated the droid to save the day. Hot Rod needed to find a replacement hand after the Guardian snapped it off, but hey, all's well that ends well.{{storylink|Yesterday's Heroes!}}

Hot Rod continued to operate with Earth's Autobot forces aboard the Ark, and was present during Thunderwing's rampage through the shuttle bay. He took some damage, but remained functional enough to continue on, and was later seen speeding into the battle with Unicron himself on a [[hoverscooter]]), {{storylink|On the Edge of Extinction!}} He was also one of many Autobots destroyed by the Decepticons on [[Klo]], only to be revived by the [[Last Autobot]]. {{Storylink|End of the Road! (Marvel US comic)|End of the Road!}}

In an alternate future timeline, Hot Rod arose to become Rodimus Prime. However, the planet-eater known as Unicron managed to destroy Cybertron, leaving Rodimus to lead a failed Autobot/human defense of Earth when [[Galvatron II|that timeline's Galvatron]] attacked and eventually conquered it. Rodimus perished during the conflict, and his body was strung up between the ruined towers of the World Trade Center. In the year 2009, Galvatron returned to Manhattan to survey its devastated landscape, and fired upon Rodimus's corpse, demanding to know how many times he would have to kill him to erase his legacy. {{storylink|Rhythms of Darkness!}}
=====Marvel UK future timelines=====

''Hot Rod rose to greater prominence in the alternate future timeline of [[Earth-120185]]. In 1990, he, Kup and Blurr were captured by Megatron; although rescued by a double-agent named [[Warmonger]], Hot Rod was recaptured and bore witness first hand to Megatron's mercilessness when he executed Warmonger. Then, in 1991, he was part of a unit that escorted the captive [[Scorponok (G1)|Scorponok]], only to lose the Decepticon leader when forced to defend a human settlement against an attack by the [[Air Strike Patrol]].'' {{storylink|Aspects of Evil!}} ''On another occasion in 1995, Hot Rod was present when Optimus Prime first unveiled the female Autobot, Arcee, to a dubious crowd of human feminists. Hot Rod was more than a little flustered by Arcee's presence on the battlefield.'' {{storylink|Prime's Rib!}} ''In 2003, he and Blurr were given "Ark duty," assigned to stand guard over the [[Ark|Autobots' spaceship]] while construction on [[Autobot City]] began. Kup was apparently instructed to deliver the plans of the city to the American government, and when Hot Rod saw him being jumped by the [[Stunticon]]s, he disobeyed orders and sped out to the rescue. The Stunticons brutally beat on Hot Rod and took the plans, but Hot Rod learned a hard lesson when Kup informed him that it was meant to happen that way because the plans were a fake.'' {{storylink|Ark Duty}} ''When the city was completed in 2004, [[Shockwave (G1)|Shockwave]] attacked it on its opening day, and Hot Rod repelled him by attacking in a wildly illogical manner, tackling him down a mountain repeatedly.'' {{storylink|Aspects of Evil!}} ''Also, at some unknown point in the past, Hot Rod's Targetmaster partner Firebolt was killed in action. {{storylink|Headhunt}}

''In the year 2006, when the new Decepticon leader [[Galvatron]] travelled back in time to 1986 as part of a plan to free himself from the control of Unicron, the chaos-bringer used his mental powers to plan knowledge of Galvatron's plan into the minds of Hot Rod, Kup and Blurr and transported them to Cybertron, where they used Galvatron's equipment to follow him into the past. There, with help from the present-day incarnation of Ultra Magnus, they were able to convince Galvatron that he had, in fact, traveled back in time to a parallel universe, where his actions would have no effect on the future. Believing this, Galvatron returned to his own time, and after setting any remaining wrongs to right, the trio of Autobots also returned to 2006.'' {{storylink|Target 2006}} ''Back in his native timeline, Hot Rod was subsequently involved in a battle with Galvatron inside Unicron's body, during which he opened the sacred Autobot talisman, the [[Creation Matrix]], and was transformed into Rodimus Prime. With this new strength, he hurled Galvatron through Unicron's hide and opened the Matrix, destroying the planet-eater.'' {{storylink|The Transformers: The Movie}}

[[Image:Rodimusprimerequestdenied.jpg|left|thumb|300px|Rodimus learned the ''wrong'' lesson from Optimus's death.]]

''As the new Autobot leader, Rodimus became paranoid about Galvatron's eventual return, since no body was ever recovered from space. He led the Autobot forces high and low searching the universe for the Decepticon leader, neglecting Cybertron in the process. As a result, Shockwave arose as the new Decepticon leader, and total war broke out on Cybertron once again. Unable to take the time to find Galvatron himself anymore, Rodimus rashly placed a bounty on the Decepticons' head. What Rodimus did not realize, however, was that Galvatron had time-jumped again, traveling back to 1987.'' {{storylink|Wanted - Galvatron Dead or Alive}} ''In 2007, when the freelance peace-keeping agent [[Death's Head]] pursued Galvatron back to the 80s, Rodimus was informed of this fact by an Autobot double-agent named [[Nautilus]], and, dismayed at the danger he had unleashed on the past, promptly headed back in time himself to stop the dual threats.'' {{storylink|Burning Sky!}} ''Once again teaming up with the present-day Ultra Magnus, Rodimus and his team of Kup, Blurr and Wreck-Gar tracked Galvatron down to [[Mount Verona]], where he was attempting to harness the volcano's molten energy. While arguing with Death's Head, Rodimus and the bounty hunter were both attacked, but when Ultra Magnus opened fire on his power siphon, Galvatron was distracted long enough for Rodimus to escape.'' {{storylink|Hunters!}} ''Rodimus then arranged a plan that saw the Autobots capture Galvatron's time-jump mechanism, in order to have [[Wreck-Gar]] re-engineer it to return all the time-travelers to their point of origin. Rodimus engaged Galvatron in a protracted battle to buy Wreck-Gar time, but when the device was activated, Rodimus, Death's Head and the other Autobots were returned to 2007—but Galvatron was left behind.'' {{storylink|Fire on High!}}

''Some time later, a disgruntled Death's Head accepted a contract from the Decepticons on Rodimus Prime's head, and ambushed him while he was inspecting Autobot lines. Their battle subsequently went underground, where [[Cyclonus (G1)|Cyclonus]] and [[Scourge (G1)|Scourge]] intervened, downing Death's Head in hopes of being the ones to defeat Rodimus, in order to reclaim their lost standing in the Decepticons ranks. Rodimus was able to lead Death's Head through the underground tunnels, right into the heart of the Autobot camp, where he offered him advance payment for a different contract—on Cyclonus and Scourge.'' {{storylink|Headhunt}} ''Death's Head proceeded to track the two Decepticons for the remainder of the year, until the three of them fell under the mental control of Unicron when they discovered his disembodied head on the planet of [[Junk]] in the early days of 2008. Under his control, they assassinated Decepticon leader Shockwave and reignited the stalemated Cybertronian civil war in order to keep the Autobots busy while Unicron worked on rebuilding his body. Rodimus, however, learned of the situation thanks to [[Smokescreen (G1)|Smokescreen]], and lead a small Autobot force to Junk, where Death's Head fought against Unicron's control long enough to project Rodimus's mind into a battle with the demi-god on the astral plane. During the battle, explosives planted by Wreck-Gar destroy Unicron's head, and his mind is sealed within the Matrix.'' {{storylink|The Legacy of Unicron!}}

''Later in 2008, the alien Quintessons targeted Cybertron for colonization, and attacked the Autobots with a two-pronged assault on both Cybertron and Earth. When [[Arcee (G1)|Arcee]] shirked her guard duty at Autobot City, the Quintessons were given an opening that allowed them to take over the city, and when she returned, they gunned her down as bait for a trap for Rodimus Prime. Arriving at the city, Rodimus discovered the injured Arcee and opened his chest compartment to heal her with the Matrix, only to have it yanked from his grasp by the Quintesson general, [[Ghyrik]], causing him to revert to Hot Rod. Liberating [[Blaster]]'s cassettes for back-up, Hot Rod and Arcee proceeded to fight their way through the Quintessons to Autobot City's control room, where Hot Rod activated [[Metroplex (G1)|Metroplex]] to smash the alien threat. In battle with Ghyrik, Hot Rod duped the Quintessons with a bit of amateur ventriloquism and reclaimed the Matrix; transformed back into Rodimus Prime again, he routed the Quintessons.'' {{storylink|Space Pirates!}}

''Unbeknowst to Rodimus, the Quintessons had sought to colonize Cybertron because their own homeworld was being destroyed by a rift in space and time caused by the Transformers' repeated time-travel. The rift continued to grow in size until it threatened both Earth and Cybertron at the beginning of both 2009 and 1989. To put an end to the threat, Rodimus and a squad of Autobots traveled back to 1989, only to wind up mass-displacing Optimus Prime (since the Matrix could not exist in two time periods at once) and a group of other Autobots to [[limbo]], leading to a brief but violent misunderstanding with the present-day Autobots. Optimus Prime was able to stabilize the situation by communicating with all involved through the power of the Matrix. Subsequently, Autobots and Decepticons from both the present and future teamed up to battle Galvatron and [[Straxus|Megatron]], but one by one they fell, until Optimus Prime used the Matrix to return himself to reality for a final showdown. After absorbing Galvatron, Cyclonus and Scourge, however, the rift was sealed by Shockwave, and Rodimus and the other future Autobots returned to 2009, vowing to destroy their time machines to prevent this from ever happening again.'' {{storylink|Time Wars}}

''As it transpired, however, things would not be that easy. In the wake of the massive chronal damage caused by the rift, time had attempted to heal its wounds, but reality was no longer as it had been. The future that Rodimus and the other Autobots came from no longer existed—in its place was a world where Galvatron had never traveled back in time, and had conquered Cybertron after Unicron's destruction. Rodimus quickly established a rebellion, but when Galvatron tracked down their headquarters, he killed Blurr and all others present, goading Rodimus into a ferocious battle in hopes of corrupting the Matrix within him. Rodimus realized what he was doing, however, and ended the fight before more damage could be done.'' {{storylink|Aspects of Evil!}}

''Rodimus and the Autobots escaped to Earth via hyperspace, only to find that their craft's guidance systems had been damaged. During the flight, Rodimus Prime vanished'' {{storylink|The Void! (UK)}}, ''and Kup discovered that he was the saboteur,'' {{storylink|Edge of Impact}} ''deducing that he had been corrupted by an evil force from within the Matrix.'' {{storylink|Shadow of Evil}} ''Inside the Matrix, Rodimus battled with the essence of Unicron, trapped there since the events of 2008, until Kup wrenched the Matrix from his chest, freeing from the chaos-bringer's influence. But now, Rodimus knew that the evil of Unicron will be waiting for him within it...'' {{storylink|White Fire}} ''...and in 2010, Unicron's essence succeeded in taking over Rodimus's body, transforming it into a duplicate of his own and attacking Cybertron once more, until Rodimus was able to defeat him from within and re-seal him within the Matrix.'' {{storylink|Aspects of Evil!}}

''Centuries later, in the year 2356, Rodimus, his body withered and weakened from the continuous harmful influence of Unicron from within the Matrix, lectured a young Autobot student on the nature of evil, unwittingly setting the youth on the path towards villainy himself.'' {{storylink|Aspects of Evil!}}

''In an unidentified timeline in the year 2510, a healthy Rodimus Prime was overjoyed to announce that the Cybertronian war was finally over, and planned to step down as leader to allow [[Springer]] to take over. The sole remaining Decepticon, a double-agent named [[Triton]], spoke out against the decision to cause dissension, and succeeded—as Rodimus could only watch in dismay, arguments escalated into conflict, and the war was born again as [[Technobot]] fought [[Wrecker]], and the Autobot Civil War began.'' {{storylink|Peace}}

====Generation 2====

After the defeat of the Decepticons on [[Klo]], the Autobots' forces scattered throughout the galaxy as virtually independent splinter cells. A small group under Optimus Prime's command encountered Bludgeon and his soldiers on a desolate world, both sides looking for new weapons or technology, and were in danger of being overrun. Prime sent Hot Rod into a nearby mausoleum building in the hopes that he could conjure up some form of "graven image" to distract the superstitious Decepticon leader. Hot Rod emerged empty-handed from the ruins, only to find that just such a graven image had conjured ''itself'', chased off the trespassing Decepticons, and was now prepared to do the same to the Autobots. They managed a dignified, if rushed, scramble to safety. {{storylink|All or Nothing!|Ghosts}}

Sometime after, Hot Rod was operating somewhere in the universe with Optimus Prime and Kup when Grimlock summoned them to deal with the threat of [[Jhiaxus]] and his Cybertronians. Together, they formed the initial Autobot resistance to the Liege Centuro. {{storylink|War Without End (US)|War Without End}} Once Optimus's visions convinced him there was a much greater threat at work in the universe, however, he took the Autobots into hiding until they were ready to deal with the bigger picture. Stuck on a distant asteroid base, Hot Rod amused himself by running training with the [[Dinobot (G1)|Dinobot]]s, [[Aerialbot]]s, and other soldiers as the army slowly regrouped and reorganized, but chafed at the lack of real action. {{Storylink|The Power and the Glory}} Luckily, the Autobots soon joined forces with the old Decepticons, the fight ramped up to epic proportions...and Hot Rod proceeded to do nothing of import for the rest of the war.

===Dreamwave comics continuity===

Hot Rod joined an underground Autobot cell led by [[Kup]] after [[Shockwave (G1)|Shockwave's]] takeover of [[Cybertron]]. Among the members of the cell was [[Arcee (G1)|Arcee]], who Hot Rod became attached to.

From the [[Wastelands]], Hot Rod, [[Blurr (G1)|Blurr]], and [[Springer (G1)|Springer]] observed an incoming Decepticon shuttle carrying the [[Dinobot (G1)|Dinobots]]. Shortly afterward, the cell rescued [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]] from [[Runamuck (G1)|Runamuck]] and [[Runabout (G1)|Runabout]], and took him to their base. After awakening, Prime attacked [[Gnaw]], Blurr, and [[Wheelie]], forcing Hot Rod (who didn't recognize him) to hold the Autobot leader at gunpoint. After being <strike>bitch slapped</strike> admonished by Kup, Hot Rod apologized.

After Shockwave unleashed the [[Guardian Robots]] on [[Iacon]], Prime organized the resistance cell and other Autobot forces on the planet in an assault on Shockwave's citadel. Fighting alongside the Autobot leader, Hot Rod was amazed that the stories Kup had told him about Prime's courage and heroism had all been true. As an injured Prime breached the citadel, Hot Rod, Ironhide and [[Springer (G1)|Springer]] provided cover fire, taking down a number of Guardians in the process. Along with the rest of Iacon, they witnessed the divine light of the [[Matrix of Leadership|Autobot Matrix of Leadership]] when Shockwave activated it.

As Prime and [[Ultra Magnus (G1)|Ultra Magnus]] battled Shockwave within the citadel, Hot Rod and [[Grimlock (G1)|Grimlock]] took down [[Astrotrain (G1)|Astrotrain]] and [[Blitzwing (G1)|Blitzwing]]. Immediately afterward, they were confronted with the looming threat of a remaining Guardian Robot—a threat that was soon neutralized by the arrival of the [[Wreckers]], the [[Autobot High Council]], and [[Defensor (G1)|Defensor]]. The unified Autobot group soon breached the citadel.

Some time later, Hot Rod ran a simulation combat scenario against Kup, and won using tactics that, in Kup's opinion, would have killed them both had it been real. Only after his victory did Hot Rod remember that he'd promised to take Arcee to see an [[Earth]]-bound shuttle launch—a duty Springer was happy to relieve him of. Soon afterward, he was assigned to perimeter guard duty at [[Autobase]] with Gnaw and Wheelie, separating him from Arcee.

A few months after the destruction of [[Unicron]] in 2005, Rodimus Prime spearheaded an effort to establish multiple recon posts to watch for advancing threats... even though some of his scientists said he shouldn't. When only two of the five launched ships were ever heard from again, Rodimus felt like a schmuck. Guy can't catch a break. {{storylink|Betrayal}}

After the Great Wars ended and the [[Pax Cybertronia]] was signed, he changed his name to simply "Rodimus" and decided to check out the new "[[Maximal]] upgrade". His relationship with [[Arcee (G1)|Arcee]] effectively ended shortly after, as the latter went through dark gripping emo depression over the death of [[Daniel Witwicky]] and vanished.

Rodimus joined the [[Wreckers]] at some undetermined point afterward. After [[Megatron (BW)|Megatron]] took over Cybertron with his [[Vehicon]] drones, Wrecker leader [[Apelinq]] got stranded on prehistoric [[Earth]], leaving Rodimus in charge. True to form, he ditched leadership duties to [[Primal Prime]] as soon as possible.

After Primal Prime got his marching orders from the [[Oracle]], he met Rodimus deep inside Cybertron's caverns, where an even more gothy-emo Arcee --in a new Maximal body-- lurked and stewed in her depression. Realizing he couldn't convince her to give a damn about anything, he left, rejoining the main Wrecker force in battle. Making it onto an ancient Autobot shuttle, the Wreckers blasted off.... with late-arrival Arcee. {{storylink|Departure}}

Rodimus recognized the homing beacon emitting from [[Archa Nine]] as one of those missing exploration parties mentioned before. When the shuttle landed, Rodimus stayed behind to help repair the damage the ship had suffered. The entire Wrecker team later gathered in an [[Akalouthan]] village, where Rodimus was reunited with [[Glyph]], who took them to see the artifact known as the [[Divine Light]]. The Wreckers' analysis of the item was cut short, as it was stolen by the traitor [[Cyclonus (G1)|Cyclonus]]. Rodimus saw the back-in-his-old-body [[Devcon]] off, who was sent to chase after Cyclonus, while the Wreckers made for their next destination... even though several of them were now leery of the visions Primal Prime had been getting. Because they've really done ''so well'' by the Wreckers so far. {{storylink|Betrayal}}

Upon landing on the frozen planet, Rodimus was part of the search party immediately dispatched to look for... something. Primal Prime wasn't too specific. They came across [[Al-Badur]], an exiled [[Quintesson]], who gave them a little history lesson. They were then promptly attacked by a school of [[Sharkticon (G1)|Sharkticons]], but the Wreckers made short work of them. They made their way back to the ship, with Al-Badur in tow, and made for their next destination... {{storylink|Disclosure}}
Years ago, Hot Rod was put in charge of a mission to the planet [[Ki-Aleta]] to obtain a powerful artifact named the [[Magnificence]] so as to keep it out of the hands of the Decepticons. Though the mission started off smoothly enough, with [[Gizmo]] using a [[holomatter]] generator to distract the defense systems while the rest of the team went after the Magnificence. Unfortunately, everything that could go wrong did go wrong. First, the generator malfunctioned, then [[Download]] tripped the security lasers around the Magnificence itself. Gizmo, Download, and [[Backbeat]] were destroyed by the security systems while Hot Rod and [[Doubledealer|Dealer]] fled. Hot Rod, nearing the exit tunnels they had previously drilled, got a call from Dealer{{m-}}he had been ambushed by a Decepticon attack squad and needed help. Unfortunately, Hot Rod had been given his own, top secret orders: the Magnificence was to be the top priority of the mission, and placed before all else. With a heavy heart, Hot Rod abandoned Dealer to his fate as he left Ki-Aleta with the Magnificence.

Years later, Hot Rod learned that Dealer had not died that day; he was being held prisoner at the Decepticon penal colony known as [[Styx]]. Hot Rod stealthily infiltrated the prison complex, using a holomatter generator to disguise himself as a guard and then short-circuiting the power grid to cause all the cell doors to unlock. During the chaos he snuck in, extracted Dealer, and took off while the Decepticons were busy getting the prisoners under control. {{storylink|Spotlight: Hot Rod}}

Recently, Hot Rod was called to Earth to aid the crew of the ''[[Ark-19]]'' in procuring a Decepticon [[facsimile]] from a former Soviet state in eastern Europe. He and [[Hardhead (G1)|Hardhead]] went down to Earth from the ''[[Ark-32]]'' against [[Nightbeat (G1)|Nightbeat]]'s wishes, and proceeded to join the battle unannounced. As Hardhead went to support the main battle, Hot Rod went after the facsimile... which lead to him colliding with [[Prowl (G1)|Prowl]] as they both tried to stop the facsimile from letting himself get gunned down by Soviet soldiers. Hot Rod succeeded in the end, but before he could return to his ship he was attacked by [[Thundercracker (G1)|Thundercracker]] and [[Skywarp (G1)|Skywarp]], unable to defend himself because he had to keep the facsimile alive. After returning to the ''Ark-32'', he had to be put in a CR Chamber to recover. His injuries were for nothing, as the facsimile melted during the bounce. {{storylink|Escalation}}

After Hot Rod was repaired and reformatted into a Dodge Viper, his "friend" Dealer tried to convince him to pull some strings to get him to Earth, but Hot Rod and Wheeljack had the more important task of rescuing [[Ironhide (G1)|Ironhide]]. They ran into a bit of trouble with the [[Machination]]'s [[Headmaster]]s. They managed to escape temporarily, but were found and Wheeljack was incapacitated. Hot Rod held his own with the Headmasters, receiving a little help in the end from Hardhead, who was mainly there to take Hot Rod and the others back to the ''Ark-32'' for evacuation to [[Garrus-9]]. Hot Rod refused to go, wanting to see the Headmaster mystery through to the end. Hardhead reluctantly let him go. {{storylink|Devastation}}

===Binaltech===

Referred to only as "The Protector", Rodimus Prime sent a special spark back in time in order to ensure the survival of the Binaltech timeline created by [[Ravage (G1)|Battle Ravage]]'s machinations. It seems the Binaltech project was destined to produce warriors of considerable merit and power, who would do much good in the universe. To accomplish his goals, Rodimus had the time-traveling spark possess the [[Nemesis Prime (Alternators)|"Black Optimus"]] Binaltech body that [[Doctor Arkeville]] had been creating. Once it has physical form, the new "Black Optimus" intervened on [[Operation: Distant Thunder]], bisecting the timeline to both restore the original history and allow the Binaltech history to continue. The evil Binaltech body soon rejected the purely good spark possessing it, however, and vanished. Optimus Prime recovered the spark sent by the Protector and encased it in a preserving crystal...

{{note|While "The Protector" from the future is never explicitly mentioned as Rodimus Prime, "Protector" is Rodimus's official function, and a Rodimus/Hot Rod figure was under production at the time the Binaltech/Alternators line went on indefinite hiatus, so it's not too big a leap. The real question, though, is the exact nature of the time-traveling spark -- it is alternately referred to as "the Protector's spark" and as being sent back from the future by the Protector, which suggests it is not Rodimus's own spark.}}
==Trivia==
* Hot Rod might be the ''Transformers'' character with the most names in the US. From "Hot Rod" to "Rodimus Prime", to "Rodimus Major" to just plain "Rodimus". Varieties of "Rodimus" appear to be how he will be for a while, as Hasbro appears to be unable to secure the [[trademark]] on "Hot Rod".

* Aside from the ''[[Energon (franchise)|Energon]]'' [[Rodimus (Energon)|namesake character]], Hot Rod has also been [[homage]]d twice (or possibly thrice depending on how you look at it) in the [[Unicron Trilogy]]. For ''[[Armada]]'', the "[[Powerlinx]]" upgrade of [[Hot Shot (Armada)|Hot Shot]] was given a very Hot-Rod-inspired deco. In ''[[Cybertron (franchise)|Cybertron]]'', [[Takara]] made a redeco of Hot Shot (well, "Exillion") with Hot Rod deco as a DVD-pack-in [[exclusive]]. [[Hasbro]] then took this deco, altered it, and released it in the US line at mass retail as the new character [[Excellion]].

* Outside the Unicron Trilogy, [[Side Burn (RID)|Side Burn]] was released in a color scheme that also resembles Hot Rod.

* One of the first concepts for Classics Rodimus was based around the [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pagani_Zonda Pagani Zonda] super car, before the [http://www.supercarnet.jp/File/File-Japan/File-Dome.htm Dome Zero] design was decided upon.

* At [[BotCon 2002]], Dick Gautier "confirmed", jokingly, that Rodimus Prime is gay.

* In [[The Transformers: The Movie]], Hot Rod does not transform the same way twice.

* [[Hot Shot]] is heavily modeled after him. SERIOUSLY HE IS.
Unusual for something that started as a children's toy and 80's cartoon, '''death''' of important characters is a prominent feature in [[Transformer]]s. The reasons for it vary from plot development to the arrival of [[to sell toys|new toys]]. However, the fact that the majority of characters are machines means that death isn't automatically an absolute in the various Transformers universes.
The first time the concept of death was addressed in Transformers is when [[Gears]] appeared to fall to his death while he and [[Spider-Man]] were rescuing [[Sparkplug Witwicky]]. The Autobots coldly gathered up Gears' parts, which creeped out Spidey and Sparkplug, who were expecting some show of sadness for the Autobots' fallen comrade. Gears was rebuilt and back in tip-top shape without a problem. {{storylink|Prisoner of War!}}
One of the more grandoise slaughters was the [[Underbase Saga]], where a super powered [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream]] destroyed/deactivated dozens of Transformers, [[Autobot]] and [[Decepticon]] alike, in his quest to secure the [[Underbase]]. The reason for this was to remove old characters to allow more "screen time" for the newer toys.
The '''''Ark''''' is the name given to the Autobot spaceship that, in many universes, originally carried the [[Autobot]] and [[Decepticon]] armies to [[Earth]].

The ''Ark'' is a [[Vanguard (ship class)|''Vanguard'']]-class Deep Space Interceptor.
It has 5 Decks and houses a full crew complement of 300 Transformers (although it can be flown by only a handful if necessary). Its environment is fully automated and self-sufficient. For engines, it features 4 Hyperfuel Intake Accelerators.

It is armed with 16 particle-combustion cannons (port), 16 laser emitters (starboard), a primary starfield missile launcher, and an Overshock sonic battery.
===Marvel Comics continuity===

[[Image:ArkComic1.jpg|thumb|left|The ''Ark'' as it first appeared in the Marvel comics...]]

{{note|The comic version of the ship tends to have a more squared-off look to it and is frequently (though not always) shown as being a metallic silver. It has a main computer designated [[Auntie]].}}

In the comic, the ''Ark'' was referred to as "the last of the Great Arks," suggesting that, as in the cartoon, there had been previous ''Vanguard''-class ships. It is also referred to as the most powerful starship in Cybertron's history, and control of it was considered a huge tactical advantage.

It was launched to clear a path for the wandering planet [[Cybertron]] through an asteroid field. When this was done and her reserves depleted, the Decepticons attacked and boarded her. Hoping to end the threat of Megatron forever, Optimus Prime '''purposely''' crashed the ship into the passing planet Earth. The ''Ark'' crashed into [[Mount St. Hilary]], a volcano located a small distance outside of what would one day become [[Portland|Portland, Oregon]].

After the crash, some of the ''Ark'''s systems still functioned, and when they detected the Decepticon [[Shockwave]] making planetfall, the ship revived five of her Autobot crew and rebuilt them into the [[Dinobot (G1)|Dinobot]]s. Upon the disappearance of these warriors in their attempt to destroy Shockwave, the ''Ark'' shut itself down.

[[Image:ArkComic2.jpg|thumb|300px|right| ...and as it came to be fairly consistently portrayed as the comics progressed.]]

Four million years later, Mount St. Hilary erupted, jarring the ship back to life. It revived and, unable to distinguish Autobot from Decepticon or to detect organic life (Clearly it had suffered additional malfunctions since creating the Dinobots), it revived both sides to transform into the machines it perceived as the planet's dominant lifeforms.

{{note|At no point in the comics does it explain why it rebuilt the Dinobots based on the dominant organic life, and yet it could only assimilate mechanical life in 1984.}}

The ''Ark'' became the Autobots' main base of operations on Earth until, during [[Grimlock (G1)|Grimlock's]] first term as Autobot leader, he had the ship repaired and returned to space. The ''Ark'' hung around near Earth for a time, until it was abandoned in orbit when Primus teleported all nearby Transformers back to Cybertron to face [[Unicron]]. It was recovered by the Dinobots and flown to Cybertron to engage Unicron. Grimlock, being the master of tactics that he is, physically rammed Unicron with the powerfully armed starship, which was then abandoned and crashed on Cybertron. It was recovered this time by Shockwave and [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream]], who repaired it and took it to Earth to conquer that planet with it. This plan was foiled by [[Galvatron (G1)|Galvatron]], Megatron and [[Ratchet (G1)|Ratchet]] crashing the party. Their battle caused the ship to crash to Earth again, this time into the Canadian wilderness.

The ''Ark'''s original crew in the comics included all of the 1984 Autobots, the Dinobots, ''[[Red Alert (G1)|Red Alert]] (in the UK),'' the recorded mental engrams of most of the other 1985 Autobot cars, and [[Toaster (G1)|Toaster]].

===Generation 2 comics===
The ''Ark'' was recovered and repaired by Megatron, who attempted to take it back to Cybertron and conquer ''that'' planet with it. This was foiled by [[Fortress Maximus (G1)|Fortress Maximus]] and [[Spike Witwicky]], who sacrificed their lives to cause an anti-matter explosion that finally destroyed the great ship.

Megatron takes command of the ''Ark'', but apparently keeps it (with Ratchet on ice) as his new HQ on Earth.
{{note|The Autobot ship in the Generation 1 cartoon is never actually named. Fans have generally called it the ''Ark'', however, borrowing the name from its comics counterpart.
[[Image:CrashedArk1.jpg|right|200px|thumb|Doooo Dooooooo DOOTDOOTDOOT DOOOOOO!]]

The ''Ark'' was launched under the command of [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]] to search for fuel, but ran afoul of two colliding asteroids. Then the [[Nemesis (G1)|Decepticon ship]] attacked, and the Decepticons under [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]] boarded it. Out of control, the ''Ark'' crashed to Earth, smashing into a volcano in what would eventually become a desert. The exact location is unknown, but closely resembled the American southwest. There it rested until a volcanic eruption four million years later reactivated it and its inhabitants.{{storylink|More Than Meets the Eye, Part 1}}

The ''Ark''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s crew consisted of all the 1984 Autobots. A vehicle resembling [[Grapple (G1)|Grapple]]'s alt-mode and called [[Hauler]] is also seen shortly after the Autobots revived on Earth and may represent another crew member.

==== Autobot Headquarters ====

[[Image:Ladybreakeandfatjazzr.jpg|left|thumb|250px|They're working hard to remove all the rocks that aren't part of the background matte.]]

After coming back online, the Decepticons immediately departed. However, the Autobots remained in their crashed ship, which served as their base of operations: '''Autobot Headquarters'''.

The ship was severely damaged by the crash and its subsequent entombment; massive rocks were visible inside the ship (whether they penetrated the hull on impact or were formed there later is unclear), and broken and damaged consoles are frequently seen in the background. The ship never flew again. The Autobots seemed to be preparing to re-launch it after the crash of the [[Decepticon space cruiser]], but months later, both the Autobots and the ship remained on Earth.

Over time, the Autobots modified and expanded their base. An elevator provided passage to upper levels within the volcano, and a retractable door sealed off the volcano's crater. Early on, a small module serving as Ratchet's medical center sat near the main entrance, but was later removed. Explorations by Sideswipe and Brawn revealed a system of caves beyond the ship's walls. The caves revealed a treasure trove of dinosaur bones, which became the inspiration for [[Dinobots (G1)|the Dinobots]]. The base's nerve center was the supercomputer Teletraan I.

The base's geographic location proved a liability on at least two occasions, when Decepticon-induced calamities caused the volcano to become active again. During the first of these eruptions, several Autobots were blasted out of the cone and into the troposphere, requiring [[Jetfire (G1)|Skyfire]] to come to their rescue. Ironhide managed to bring the eruption to a halt by shooting down some rocks. No, really. The system of caves beneath the base also allowed the [[Constructicon (G1)|Constructicons]] to enter the base from below, in an attempt to destroy Teletraan I. [[Laserbeak (G1)|Laserbeak]] was known to use the volcano's crater as an entry/exit point when on spying missions.

Autobot Headquarters remained in use in 2005, though it appears to have been supplanted by [[Autobot City]] as the Autobots' primary operations center. By 2006, the base had been equipped with a large number of retractable cannons built into the mountainside. They were not enough to save it from destruction at the hands of the giant Decepticon [[Trypticon]], however. A [[Mini Vehicle|squad of Autobots]] led by [[Warpath]] made a stand against the oncoming citybot, but were brushed aside. Warpath ordered Teletraan I to activate the automated defenses, but the barrage of cannonfire gave Trypticon only momentary pause. He smashed the guns, then blasted the entire mountain to rubble. Why must you crush the past cruel world? WHY?!

{{note|The distinction between the ship and the headquarters is unclear. The presence of damaged equipment in the base (presumably, damaged when the ship crashed) implies that the ''Ark'' and Autobot Headquarters are one and the same. However, the Autobots are consistently shown driving more-or-less directly out of their headquarters through a ground-level passage '''below''' the ship. Further, the ''Ark'' rests at a high angle from the horizontal, while the inside of Autobot Headquarters is shown with everything upright and normal. While artificial gravity (which the Transformers definitely have) could explain the latter, another explanation might be that Autobot Headquarters is actually a series of remodeled caves within the volcano, adjacent to the ship.}}

According to [[Optimus Primal]], the ''Ark'' was built using "[[die-cast]]" construction, a lost art by the Beast Wars era.

According to [[Blackarachnia (BW)|Blackarachnia]], the ''Ark'' was launched under the command of [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]], carrying a group of the Autobot's "finest heroes". One of the two copies of the ''[[Covenant of Primus]]'' was carried aboard. During the voyage, the ''Ark'' came under attack by the ''[[Nemesis (G1)|Nemesis]]'', the flagship of the [[Decepticon fleet]]. Decepticon Leader [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]] led a boarding party which attacked the ''Ark'' crew. However, both ships were damaged and fell into the gravity well of the nearby planet Earth. The ''Ark'' crashed into a semi-active volcano, and the Transformers aboard were sent into emergency stasis lock.

Though [[Megatron (BW)|Megatron]] had ostensibly come to prehistoric Earth to look for a massive cache of [[energon]] to fuel his war against the [[Maximal Imperium]], he was in reality following instructions recorded by the original Megatron on the [[Golden Disk]] from the Voyager space probe. Once on Earth, he apparently found the crash site of the ''Ark'', but buried the entrance to the interior of the volcano. At that point, he had deemed the plan to destroy the deactivated Autobots aboard her and change the outcome of the [[Great War]] as a last-chance gamble should he ever be backed into a corner with little hope of escape. Such a situation came to pass while he was a prisoner aboard [[Ravage]]'s [[Transwarp Cruiser]], and he convinced the former Decepticon to free him by revealing his plan. {{Storylink|The Agenda (Part 2)}}

[[Image:Ark_BWAgenda1.jpg|thumb|right|200px|"She may have flaws, but she has teeth."]]

After failing to destroy the ''[[Axalon (BW)|Maximal base]]'', he traveled to the crash site, where he forced [[Blackarachnia (BW)|Blackarachnia]] to deactivate the security systems of Teletraan I and allow him access to the ''Ark'''s bridge. Observing that he was walking in the hallowed halls of the past as somebody who was soon to change the very course of history, he flew to the prone form of Optimus Prime and unleashed a torrent of pent-up rage over what he felt was Maximal injustice toward the conquered Predacons. He then fired at Optimus Prime's head, which created a time storm. {{Storylink|The Agenda (Part III)}} Fortunately, the Maximals fixed everything. {{storylink|Optimal Situation}}

Megatron would later reenter the ''Ark'' with a new mission: take the [[spark]] of Megatron and merge it with his own. However, [[Tarantulas]] betrayed him and set the ''Ark'' to self-destruct. Fortunately, Blackarachnia was able to deactivate the overload. {{storylink|Master Blaster}}

After securing the ''Nemesis'', Megatron attempted to destroy the ''Ark'' (along with all the Decepticons inside, which might have destroyed him as well). The Maximals tried to bring the ''Ark'' online and use it to fight against the ''Nemesis'', but the engines had been idle for too long. However, using a [[Autobot Shuttle Omega Delta|shuttle]] housed in the ''Ark'', [[Rhinox (BW)|Rhinox]] was able to damage the ''Nemesis'' and capture Megatron. After sufficient modifications, the shuttle was later used to transport the Maximals home, while the ''Ark'' and its sleeping passengers remained in the volcano to begin the Great War eventually. {{storylink|Nemesis Part 2}}

[[Razorbeast]] and his small, temporally displaced group traveled to the Maximal encampment in the volcano in order to obtain tools to repair the transwarp signal booster which they hoped to find in the wreckage of Ravage's transwarp cruiser. Not willing to risk taking something that might be noticed missing from the ''Axalon''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s shell, they instead took what they need from the ''Ark''. {{Storylink|The Gathering issue 3|The Gathering #3}}
===Dreamwave comics continuity===

There is some question as to the ''Ark'''s appearance in the Dreamwave continuity, as it is never shown in totality in an actual comic story. Pictures are seen in the final issue of their [[More Than Meets The Eye]] guide, and there it is drawn to look mostly like the cartoon model (though oddly missing the rear "spoiler"). However, the [[Transformers: The Ultimate Guide|DK ''Transformers Ultimate Guide'']], whose main focus was Dreamwave continuity, gives a cutaway diagram of the ''Ark'' drawn in the Marvel Comics style instead, only colored yellow-gold as in the cartoon.

The Ark was destroyed in 2004 while [[Ratchet]] and [[Brawn]] countered a Decepticon attack headed by [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream]] and [[Bruticus (G1)|Bruticus]].

[[Image:SpotlightGalvatron_Ark1.jpg|thumb|right|200px|Continuing the tradition of horrible things happening to every ship named the Ark]]

6.2 million [[meta-cycle]]s ago, the first legendary vessel to be designated as the ''Ark'' was launched from Cybertron. Its stated mission was to plot a safe passage from the [[Cybertronian Quadrant]] of the galaxy through the [[Benzuli Expanse]], though its true mission was conquest. Twenty-thousand [[astro-cycle]]s out, it disappeared with all hands lost. Over the eras following its loss, rumor, myth and legend sprang up around the ship, obscuring the few existing facts surrounding its fate.

{{note|This ''Ark'' appears in the flashbacks to look a bit like a merging of the older cartoon and Marvel Comics designs.}}

Known passengers on this first Ark include:
*[[Nova Prime]]
*[[Galvatron (G1)|Galvatron]]
*[[Jhiaxus]]

On his reappearance, Galvatron reveals that the ship disappeared after he intentionally piloted it directly into the anomaly within the Benzuli Expanse, which turned out to be a gateway to a region known as the [[Dead Universe]].

In the present day, the fate of the first ''Ark'' was one of the "big three" mysteries that [[Nightbeat]] liked to dig into in his free time. He eventually got a lead on possible remains of the ship, but it turned out to be a trap specifically set to draw him in. On [[Gorlam Prime]] he found wreckage of the correct type and age to come from the ship, and far beneath the surface, he discovered a vast interdimensional portal. Before he could dig into the mystery even more, he was overtaken by a strange group of Transformers who captured him and messed with his head, eventually erasing his memory of being there at all.

In the modern era, the Autobots utilized numerous ships designated "''Ark''", each distinguished by a number following the title. Among them were the ''[[Ark-17]]'', ''[[Ark-19]]'', ''[[Ark-27]]'', and ''[[Ark-32]]''.
* '''Autobot Shuttle Ark''' (3-inch Robot Masters)
[[Image:Arktitanium.jpg|left|thumb|Look closely. R2-D2 apparently got lost before he auditioned for the voice of [[Roller]].]]

:The first ever tangible representation of the ''Ark'' was a die-cast Titanium figurine at the 3-inch scale. The very forward section was based on the ''Ark''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s appearance in the original cartoon, but attached to it is an approximation of the back 2/3s of another space ship, the "Electronic Star Bird" created and sold by Milton Bradley in 1978. [http://www.bugeyedmonster.com/toys/starbird/] Odder yet, the technical information on the back refers to the Marvel Comics ''Ark'''s destruction at the hands of Fortress Maximus, and that ''Ark'', as seen above, does not resemble either the cartoon ''Ark'' or this toy at all.

[[Image:Arktitaniumfront.jpg|right|thumb|100px|Tiny, isn't she?]]

The very forward portion of the Titanium is removable, allowing for a more accurate toy. (Ironically, the most iconic portion of the ''Ark'', the rear engines which were often seen protruding from its rocky resting point on Earth, are not present due to placement of the attachment point.)
'''The Return of Optimus Prime, Part 2''' is the second part of the two-part season finale of Season 3 of the ''[[Generation 1 (cartoon)|Generation 1 animated series]]''. Part 2 first aired on February 25, 1987.

==Synopsis==
[[Image:ReturnOptimusPrime2 crazycons.JPG|left|thumb|200px|Cyclonus and Scourge each spent 2,000 XP to create the Level 7 ''Flame Barrier'' spell. Unfortunately Galvatron has ''Protection from Fire'' with ''Permanency'' effect.]]
[[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]], now fully restored to life by [[Sky Lynx (G1)|Sky Lynx]] and a [[Quintesson]] survivor of the rampant Hate Plague that's infecting the universe, demands to know what has happened during his time on the [[Allspark|other side]]. Sky Lynx recaps the events that had conspired to bring him back, including [[Jessica Morgan]]'s valiant play to save him from total destruction, the discovery of the [[Hate Plague]] spores, and the trap laid out by Jessica's father and her partner, Gregory Swofford to infect the Autobots with the spores in revenge, which ultimately spiraled out of control. It was thought by Rodimus, before his infection, that Prime would know what it would take to stop the plague. Prime asks who is available, and learns of the injured [[Autobot]]s. The Quintesson manages to reactivate them, completely rebuilding [[Bumblebee (G1)|Bumblebee]] into Goldbug.

When [[Kup]] asks what the plan is, Prime admits that he doesn't have a plan. Without the accumulated wisdom within the [[Matrix of Leadership]] (which now resides in Rodimus), he doesn't have a clue as to where to start. That is, until Jessica comes forward with the experimental alloy that she, her father, and Gregory had worked on, which proved strong enough to block the spores. Theoretically, coating Optimus with this alloy would protect himself from the spore's infection and allow him to get close enough to Rodimus to extract the Matrix from him. However, all remaining alloy samples were stolen by the Decepticons. The Autobots decide to retrieve the metal.

[[Image:ReturnOptimusPrime2 Prime Galvatron.JPG|right|thumb|200px|"Come on, Optimus, why can't we be friends?"<br>"When we [[War Dawn|first met]], you shot and damaged me and [[Elita One|my girlfriend]]. You make a bad first impression."]]
Meanwhile, on [[Chaar]], [[Galvatron (G1)|Galvatron]] is pinned down by his own mutinously diseased soldiers, unable to fight back against their maddening ferocity...until Optimus and his team arrive to save the day, convincing Galvatron that it would be in his best interest to join in an alliance with them. As is his way, however, the Decepticon leader is suspicious of Optimus' motives, especially when he leans they need the alloy he stole, but cannot get a reason for it out of them. He agrees to join in and leads Optimus and his gang down a series of boobytrapped tunnels, their numbers dwindling from the tunnel's natural hazards and the infected Decepticon mob behind them, until only Optimus, Galvatron, Sky Lynx, and Jessica arrive at the alloy's hiding place. Unfortunately, Jessie accidentally lets slip their plan to coat Optimus with the metal after confirming there would be enough of it to do the job, prompting Galvatron to turn on Optimus in hopes of using the process on himself, but he is soon subdued by Sky Lynx. Under coersion, Galvatron loads the alloy onto Prime's trailer, but doesn't notice that an infected Cyclonus has managed to sneak in, infecting Jessica in the process. Jessica, in turn, infects Galvatron, forcing Sky Lynx and Optimus to flee back to Earth.

[[Image:ReturnOptimusPrime2 Primes duel.JPG|200px|thumb|left|So I guess Rodimus is a "bottom"...]]
Once on Earth, Optimus is coated with the alloy, and sets out to find Rodimus. He finds him, taking down infected Transformers with reckless glee, and attempts to reason with him, which fails. Unwilling to hurt his successor, Prime lures Rodimus to a nearby auto shop, attempting to peacefully subdue and talk Rodimus into helping him, but the Hate Plague is overriding any effort to do so, forcing Optimus to knock Rodimus out and take the Matrix back by force. Back at [[Autobot City]], Optimus dives into the Matrix to question the elders of the past in reverse chronological order (of their history) to try and find out any information on the spores. The [[spark|spirit]] of [[Alpha Trion (G1)|Alpha Trion]] warns him that if he travels too far, he risks becoming lost within the Matrix itself.

During Prime's journey, the Quintesson that revived him notices a troop of infected Transformers attempting to get in, and manages to temporarily shut them out, giving Optimus the time he needs to finally find his answer. He learns that, in a period of pre-Cybertronian history, the Plague ''has'' visited the planet before, but was contained and sealed inside the star Jessica and Gregory found it in using sheer wisdom, though even back then, no one had the wisdom to destroy the spores, and now that it has spread so much throughout the galaxy, it's doubtful that anyone has the wisdom to even contain them again. Optimus then realizes that a source of raw wisdom may be available to destroy the infection once and for all: the accumulated wisdom within the Matrix of Leadership.

[[Image:ReturnOptimusPrime2 Matrix open.JPG|thumb|200px|Hmm, this looks familiar...]]
The infected Transformers finally break into the base, and corner the Quintesson, who begs them to stop. Galvatron grabs a metal pole, intending to impale Prime. However, Prime's chest opens to reveal a glowing Matrix, surprising the Transformers. Asking it to "light our [[darkest hour]]", Optimus Prime releases the energy of the Matrix of Leadership, which spreads across the universe and totally eradicates the Plague. It even seems to, at least temporarily, cure Gregory and Jessica's father of their hatred for Autobots, and Galvatron of his own madness, both of which call a truce with Optimus.

It is then that Rodimus (now [[Hot Rod]], without the Matrix within him) notes that the Matrix is now empty, its wisdom supposedly lost in order to stop the plague. Optimus, however, disagrees; they have all become a little wiser, now, and although the Matrix is indeed empty of wisdom, it is up to them from then on to fill it again with their knowledge and experience. The episode ends with Optimus, once again the [[Prime (rank)|Autobot leader]], ordering his troops to "Transform and roll out".
:--'''Galvatron''' and '''Optimus Prime''' resuming their same old song and dance

"I don't need you anymore, Optimus. So much for your resurrection!"
:--'''Galvatron''', same song, different tune

"I don't want to hurt you, Rodimus!" <br>"Don't worry Optimus, you won't! HAHAHAHAH!" <br>
:--'''Optimus Prime''' and '''Rodimus Prime''' throw down

"Innocent lives are at stake, Rodimus!" <br>"No one is innocent!" <br>
:--'''Optimus Prime''' and '''Rodimus Prime''' throw down...right before Optimus clocks him.

"Now, light our darkest hour!"<br>
:--'''Optimus Prime''', lighting our darkest hour, as he should have

"There will be no war today, Optimus. You have earned Galvatron's respect." <br>
:--'''Galvatron''', totally sane for the first time since... ever.

"The wisdom of the ages! It's lost!" <br>
"No, not lost. We're all a little wiser now." <br>
"But the Matrix is empty!" <br>
"It's up to all of us to fill it again&mdash;with the wisdom we accumulate from this moment on. Autobots, transform and roll out!" <br>
:--'''Hot Rod''' and '''Optimus Prime'''

"Eeeyeeaaggh!" <br>
:--'''GoldBug''' Screaming when he was caught in a spider web and about to be eaten by a spider.
And to think you changed for the better.

==Notes==
*The Japanese version of this episode has a slightly alternate ending. After Optimus Prime and the Autobots ride off into the sunset and "the Touch" ends, the music changes to "Dash Dash Transformer" (the 2010 Japanese theme song) and the scene shifts to a montage of all the major characters from the series.

===Animation errors===
*When Galvatron is threatening Optimus after they find the heat-resistant metal, Galvatron's cannon has a trigger on it.
*When escaping after Galvatron is infected, Optimus and his cab are coated in the resistant metal before it was even melted down.
*As Optimus is explaining that the Matrix must be refilled with the future wisdom, he is colored as if he still has the heat resistant metal on him.

===Continuity errors===
*The alloy is heat-resistant to the point of surviving a supernova in the [[The Return of Optimus Prime, Part 1|previous episode]]. Yet it now can be melted down to coat Optimus Prime with it.

===Transformers references===
*When Optimus uses the Matrix to cure the Hate Plague, it bears more than a passing resemblance to when Rodimus Prime used the Matrix to destroy [[Unicron]] in [[The Transformers: The Movie (1986)|the Movie]]. They've even got "The Touch" playing in the background.

==Detailed Synopsis==
[[Image:DancitronGang.jpg|left|200px|thumb|Just the usual Manhattan commuter crowd.]]

[[Raoul]] and his friends Poplock and Rocksteady are trying to make some spare cash, breakdancing on the sidewalks of New York City. Unfortunately, the management of the club [[Dancitron]] doesn't like competition, and sends a mob after them. Luckily, [[Tracks]] and [[Blaster (G1)|Blaster]] are in the city, and comes to the trio's rescue.

Tracks realizes that something is wrong with the humans and investigates. [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream]] and [[Soundwave (G1)|Soundwave]] are using the club to hypnotize humans so they can use them to construct a building.

Poplock and Rocksteady are hypnotized and lure Tracks into a trap at the club. Blaster and Raoul show up and free Tracks. During the fight Raoul discovers that water breaks the hypnosis. Tracks and the three humans chase Starscream in a dizzying aerial battle through the skyline of New York; Tracks eventually uses his smaller size to lure Starscream into damaging himself in the close quarters. Blaster squares off with Soundwave at the club in a sonic "battle of the boom boxes"; the two are nearly evenly matched, till Blaster uses the club's sound system to amplify his abilities and drive Soundwave off. Reuniting with Tracks, he uses the same trick to bring down the building the Decepticons were constructing.

[[Image:Auto-Bop_Blaster_Soundwave.jpg|thumb|right|150px| ALL RIGHT!!!!RAP BATTLE!!!]]

Tracks offers grateful thanks to Raoul and his buddies for saving his life, saying that if there's anything he can do for them... and it turns out there is. The trio lost their radio in all the chaos, and until they earn enough street cash to get a new one, poor Blaster will make an ideal replacement.
==Notable Quotes==
"I've been waiting a long time for this, you poor excuse for a sound system."<br>
"All talk...no shock."<br>
:-- '''Blaster''' and '''Soundwave''', right as their sonic duel begins.<br>

"Heeheeheehaahaahaahaahaahaahaaaaa...."<br>
:-- '''Soundwave''', as he momentarily gets the upper hand in the sonic duel between himself and '''Blaster'''. This is one of the few times in the series that Soundwave is heard actually laughing, and coming from him in that quiet, metallic monotone of his, and in this context, it is actually kinda scary.

"Looks like your nightclub just went out of style." <br>
:-- '''Blaster''' to '''Soundwave''', after he won the sonic duel.

"Now that is what I call a riveting experience."<br>
:--'''Tracks''' makes a terrible pun after being shot at by a guy with a rivet gun.

"Yo, the dude's gone crazy!" <br>
"Yeah... crazy like a fox!" <br>
:-- '''Raoul''' and '''Tracks'''.
==Other Notes==

===Animation and/or Technical Glitches===
* In this episode, Raoul's skin color is colored slightly ligher than his last appearance in [[Make Tracks]].
* Towards the end, when Tracks gets chased by Starscream, at one moment inside a building Ramjet is shown instead of Starscream.
===Real-World References===
* When confronted by the gang of thugs employed by Dancitron, Raoul suggests they "pull a '''Michael Jackson'''" (''bugWHA?'') and "beat it" (''*sigh of relief*'').

* While fleeing from the thugs, Raoul wishes their blaster (boom box) was "THE [[Blaster]]". Rocksteady retorts that Raoul "knows the Autobots like I know '''Prince'''".

*When first meeting Blaster and Tracks, Rocksteady responds to Blaster's implication of trouble-making with "Hey! We were just breakin' in front of the Dancitron (''shifts from two open palms and a shrug to one thumb extended pointing behind him'') and these '''Road Warrior''' rejects tried to bounce us out."

===Miscellaneous Trivia===

*When Tracks and Blaster enter Dancitron, the song playing is an instrumental version of a song performed by [[Cold Slither]], a fake band created by Cobra in the G.I. Joe episode of the same name.

* This episode is one of two pre-movie episodes to not feature [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]].

* This episode is also noteworthy for pitting the two tape decks, Soundwave and Blaster, against each other, in an intense sonic duel. It turns out that Soundwave is actually somewhat the more powerful of the two, and Blaster had to augment his output with some nearby additional speakers to best his opponent... the cheater...
*'''Japanese title:''' "The Resurrection of Bruticus"

==Synopsis==
[[Image:BOT-Road.jpg|thumb|left|Here we come...drivin' down the street...]]

The [[Combaticon]]s drive (yes, even [[Vortex|the]] [[Blast Off|flyers]] drive) into a random city for no discernible reason and form Bruticus for no discernible reason. He is immediately destroyed with a single shot by [[Defensor (G1)|Defensor]] (who's there for no discernible reason). Defensor just leaves the pile of parts alone and unsupervised, apparently not bothering to alert the other Autobots or anything. This enables Swindle, who has somehow survived the explosion that reduced all the other Combaticons to a pile of parts ''without a scratch'' to gather up the bits. No human authorities are involved either.

Swindle then visits the generically evil foreign guy "El Presidente" on his ship filled with weapons in order to buy parts to repair the Combaticons.

Meanwhile, Megatron is running a simulation of his new orbital disruptor cannon. After Starscream whinges, Megatron explains that once the [[Moon (moon)|Moon]] is knocked from orbit, they will use Soundwave's new device to control the tides. They will then use this colossal power to flood a single canyon, creating “a limitless source of power”.

At the Combaticons' base, El Presidente's men load up the weapons and more advanced computer systems from the wrecked robots, as apparently Swindle forgot about that whole “repair” thing. Swindle then leaves to take the remaining parts to a dump. Shortly after they all leave, Skywarp arrives, noting noone seems to be home. He discovers a piece of one of the Combaticons, then notices there's a trail of them. Confused, he asks Megatron what to do.

[[Image:BOT-Luigi.jpg|thumb|right|Killer turtles out to get him, creepy crabs are right behind.]]

Swindle arrives in a junkyard, where he threatens a junkyard worker before he starts to dump the leftovers. Starscream and Skywarp discover him in the act and capture him as he tries to escape. Back at the [[Decepticon]] base, Soundwave installs a bomb in Swindle's head; he has 15 hours to re-assemble the Combaticons before it goes off. Swindle takes the parts back from various mid-80's evil foreign stereotypes and re-assembles the team. However, they are unable to combine into Bruticus because Brawl's [[personality component]] is missing. Swindle is charged with getting the component back or the bomb will still go off.

Meanwhile, at [[Benjamin Franklin Pierce High School]], Mr. Robbins' demonstration of a laser is sabotaged by two sociopathic students, Roland and Martin, who boost the laser's power output so high it instantly burns a hole through steel. Rather than involve the authorities, Mr. Robbins threatens them with an "F" in his class if they don't win a blue ribbon at the science fair, and assigns Elise Presser to assist them for no discernible reason.

Outside, the two jagoffs met the nebbish and spineless Elise. They realize a high-rise is on fire across the street, and witness the [[Protectobot (G1)|Protectobot]]s coming to the rescue (well, four of them; Blades appears to blow two window-washers off their rig with the wind from his rotors. The bastard). This inspires them to build a robot for their project. the three rummage through the same junkyard Swindle dumped the Combaticon parts in for parts, and Elise discovers a random piece of machinery. They spend the night in the school's lab assembling their machine, and Martin dubs it "B.O.T.". After several failures, Elise installs the random piece of machinery, which turns out to be Brawl's personality component, and naturally, Brawl-B.O.T. goes postal and starts trashing the place.

[[Image:BOT-CompRoom.jpg|thumb|left|Unbeknownst to all, the school was secretly funded by a hideously gargantuan Richie Rich.]]

Martin grabs the laser and fires, and B.O.T. runs off. The kids run to the school's preposterously-advanced computer lab, and use it to call the Protectobots. [[Teletraan I]] gets the S.O.S., and Optimus sends Gears, Ironhide and Bumblebee to investigate.

Swindle re-threatens the junkyard worker, who says that maybe some kids took the part Swindle is after. Swindle mutters "you better hope so"... then proceeds to rummage through the trash, seemingly instantly forgetting that whole "kids" angle.

The [[Autobot]]s arrive at the school. The kids seem disappointed that they didn't get the Protectobots, but quickly lead them to their runaway creation in the school's cafeteria. Brawl-B.O.T. knocks all three Autobots over with a single serving pan of corn on the cob (that high-school food, I tell ya, huh? huh?), then deflects Gears' blaster-fire with a pot lid. Ironhide shoots molten lead at Brawl, but he leaps to grab a light fixture, avoiding the attack, and the now-weakened floor collapses under Ironhide. Brawl runs for it, barricading the door out with remarkable speed, and heads for a seemingly abandoned building... as Swindle watches.

The Autobots follow, telling the kids to stay put. They enter the building, and find that Brawl-B.O.T. has taken an elevator thirty floors up. Ironhide wedges a stick into the doors, and the trio run up the stairs. Outside, the future serial killers grow instantly impatient, and drag Elise inside the building. They remove the stick and enter the elevator and head up.

A blast erupts ''behind'' the Autobots, and Ironhide orders them to shoot up. They shoot at absolutely ''nothing'', Ironhide declares they hit whatever it was, and they run right into Swindle. Meanwhile, the elevator has stopped. Roland is lifted up so he can open the emergency hatch, and discovers B.O.T. is trying to break the elevator cables...

Sadly, B.O.T. is prevented from snapping the cables by an energy blast to the back. The Autobots pick themselves up, seemingly having been soundly thrashed by Swindle all by himself. They all run outside to witness Swindle driving away. Back at Decepticon HQ, Brawl is restored and the bomb removed, and Bruticus is formed again.

At the school, Elise inspects the remnants of B.O.T. to find that the "funny component" is gone. Martin decides to hunt it down by reworking the machine that read B.O.T.'s "brain response" so it can track the signal. The three drive to the ocean, and Elise rewires B.O.T.'s speech synthesizer so it receives and decodes signals rather that creating them, letting them hear what Brawl hears. Megatron insists on a test-run of the cannon, and picks Autobot headquarters as the target (because it's in orbit, you see. Wait, no it isn't). The kids rush off to warn the Autobots, who send a signal to the Protectobots' base.

The Autobots apparently just sit around and wait for Megatron to set up his giant cannon, get his troops into position just outside their base, and for the Combaticons to assemble Bruticus before starting to defend themselves. Bruticus basically stumbles around until he falls apart. The Protectobots arrive and random fighting ensues. Inside the base, the kids think they need to help, and Elise has a rare moment of spine.

[[Image:Elisetape.jpg|thumb|Rape: It's like saying "Hello" in [[Kiss-Player|Japan]].]]

Using Teletraan I, she sends B.O.T. out into the battlefield on a beeline to the disruptor cannon. The Protectobots combine into Defensor and generate a force field, protecting about four other Autobots. The Decepticons wait until the force field wears off, then one shot blasts Defensor to pieces. Bruticus re-forms and tries to fire the cannon, but it turns and blasts Starscream and Soundwave instead. B.O.T. is working the cannon using a conveniently-placed control panel at the base, and causes it to explode by hitting the clearly-marked "overload" button, sending Bruticus flying away and forcing a Decepticon retreat.

Back inside, the Autobots thank the kids for their help and offer their apologies for the loss of their robot. Elise asks if they have any spare parts so they can try again... and Roland and Martin duct-tape her mouth shut and drag her away while the Autobots just watch argh argh argh...
==Other notes==
===Animation and/or technical glitches===
* Argh.

* The scenery in this episode is always ''huge''. In the opening scene, the five Combaticons are driving down a downtown street in a row (yes, even the ''fliers are driving on the ground'') with plenty of room. Humans are drawn tiny compared to the doors of their own buildings, and the Autobots fit easily inside human structures.

* There is no indication as to what jet-mode Starscream uses to capture jeep-mode Swindle.

* The kids create and lose B.O.T. in the middle of the night. When the Autobots reach the school, it's bright and sunny outside. If this ''isn't'' an animation error, then we are forced to assume that Brawl-B.O.T. spent several hours not doing much at all staying inside the school the whole time while the kids waited for the Autobots to arrive.

* The "shooting at nothing upstairs" bit might be attributed to animation/script mismatch. The animation puts the Autobots in a circular staircase so they are plainly shooting at the clearly-lit curved wall directly ahead of them. It's ''possible'' the writer intended them to be shooting up a straight staircase into darkness... but that's pure conjecture.

* During a close-up, Elise's red VW Beetle becomes Swindle-colored (including a purple hood!), then changes back and remains red through the rest of the scene.

* A wall appears behind Megatron and Soundwave as they face down Hot Spot in the middle of the desert.

===Continuity errors===
* ''Argh''.

* Swindle goes to El Presidente to ''buy'' parts to repair the other Combaticons. The next time we see them, he's ''sold'' the Combaticon parts... for ''what'', we don't know. There is no explanation as to why he suddenly completely changed his plan.

* The kids don't seem to recognize what Transformers are, but by this point in the series, they're internationally recognized, there are holidays and tributes to them, etc. Despite this, they seem to instantly accept the existence of Transformers.

===Other errors===
* '''''Argh'''''.

* Megatron's plan seems... severely overwrought. Build a giant cannon to knock the Moon out of orbit, build a device to control the tides in the Moon's absence... and use all that power to... flood a canyon that contains a hydroelectric generator that they ''also'' built. Considering that in "[[More Than Meets the Eye, Part 1]]" all they needed was the already-made Sherman Dam and [[Rumble (G1)|Rumble]] shaking up a river...

* Why does Megatron put a bomb in Swindle's head? If it goes off, he loses Bruticus for good.

* Why does Megatron have ''only'' Swindle go looking for the lost personality component? Why risk permanently losing Bruticus that way?

* The teens completely fail to notice a hundred-story building that is almost completely engulfed in flames and surrounded by emergency vehicles until they hear somebody fifty stories up call for help.

* Groove claims to use liquid nitrogen to put out the fire. Liquid nitrogen boils at -198 °C (-320 °F), so it would basically boil away to a gaseous state almost instantly upon exposure to the air, and with hugely explosive force to boot. <ref>[[wikipedia:Liquid nitrogen|Liquid nitrogen at wikipedia]]</ref>

* Streetwise catches the two falling window-washers with his ''metal'' arms after they've fallen about fifty stories, and somehow they're not splashed all over him.

* Three high school kids can build a robot out of junk bits and Brawl's brain that is ''stronger'' and ''smarter'' than the Autobots. (The latter would be a little more believable if it weren't for the "Brawl's brain" part.)

* The high school's computer is astounding. It is exceedingly and hugely sci-fi in design, plus, how the kids were able to use it to send an S.O.S. to the Autobots over the phone is... magic or something.

* Autobots are weaker than kitchenware.

* There is a fully-functional elevator within a seemingly-condemned building.

* How did Swindle get above the Autobots on the way up? And how'd he get past them on the way down again?

* The speech synthesizer is "rewired" so that instead of "synthesizing and transmitting," it "receives and decrypts." And this somehow lets the kids listen in on a conversation being held in the Decepticon base. '''''WHAT?!'''''

[[Image:BOT-Overload.jpg|thumb|right|225px|"I assure you, there is ''zero chance'' of this coming back to bite us!"]]

* It's never really specified why Megatron needs Bruticus in specific to fire the cannon. If it's a size thing, he also has [[Devastator (G1)|Devastator]] and [[Menasor (G1)|Menasor]]. But the size thing is debatable because the cannon has a human-level control panel on it. Oy.

* On that note, the human-level control panel has a great big button cleanly marked "Over Load" in English. Why did he install that? No, really, why?

* This episode was made.

===Real-world references===
* "Benjamin Franklin Pierce High School" is a reference to [[wikipedia:Hawkeye_Pierce|Benjamin Franklin "Hawkeye" Pierce]], the character from ''[[wikipedia:M*A*S*H*|M*A*S*H*]]'' (who was also the inspiration for the [[Mini-Con]] [[Hawkeye]]'s bio).

===Transformers references===
* Production-wise, it seems a bit odd to have three Season One Autobots respond to the kids' S.O.S., rather than showcasing the brand-new combiner team who would otherwise seem to be the spotlight buy-my-toy characters of the episode.

* This episode establishes that the Combaticons have their own separate base. As this was the last episode before the jump to 2006, this is never touched on again.

* Starscream says to Megatron "''Your'' stupid warrior" in reference to Bruticus... but Starscream was the one who made him.

===Miscellaneous trivia===
* '''''<u>Argh</u>'''''.

[[Image:BOT-ModelReuse.jpg|thumb|right|Me an' my friends are Jem girls, especially Jimmy "The Legbreaker" Cianciulli!]]

* Mr. Robbins's class is made up of... a very odd collection of students. The ''least'' odd are the two women who are just recolored character models from ''Jem'', [[Hasbro]]'s then-current cartoon-advertised foray into girls' fashion dolls. Towards the back, however, appear to be thugs in business suits.

* This episode introduces the most loathsome ''Transformers'' characters ever, Roland and Martin. Boosting a laser to a level that could grievously injure or kill someone as a ''prank'', the misogynistic duct-taping of Elise's mouth and constantly dragging her places against her will, and a general smarmy smugness level that makes Starscream seem humble...

* Astrotrain appears in the simulation of the disruptor cannon knocking the Moon from orbit, but is never seen elsewhere.

* The original script's cast list for the episode notes that the "junkyard operator" is a spy, and that the only other thing we learn about him is that he gets taken away by the "Federal Authorities"... oh, and he has no lines.<ref>[[Metrodome]]'s Season 3 & 4 DVD set extras</ref> This bizarre plot twist obviously didn't make it into the final draft, but really, what's one more wad of nonsense at this point?

* The billboard over the Protectobots' urban headquarters seems to be advertising for [[E Cola]]. Mmmmmmm.

* This episode was lampooned at the [[BotCon 2006]] [[MSTF]] presentation, and as far as the writers are concerned, it is the single ''dumbest'' episode in the entirety of ''Transformers'' animation.

* It is also possibly the worst advertisement for the combiner teams possible. Bruticus is destroyed with '''only a single shot''' from Defensor, and later stumbles around like a concussed baby as the Autobots shoot at him. Defensor's force field is rendered utterly pointless as the Decepticons just wait for it to run out, then he too is blasted to bits with ease.

* This was the last episode of season two. Can you imagine if this was the last episode of ''The Transformers'' ever?

* Good [[Primus|God]], I need a stiff drink.
Professor Princess attacked a toy store where [[Bulkhead (Animated)|Bulkhead]] and [[Sari Sumdac]] were shopping as part of her crusade to destroy "awful, violent toys" (''oh, the irony...''). In her opening attack, she succeeded in incapacitating Bulkhead. However, Sari weakened her with a concentrated attack of very loud music from a [[Sari Sumdac's Key|key-enchanced]] stereo, and Bulkhead pinched Powdered Sugar's laser horn as it was about to fire, causing it to explode. The wannabe supervillainess was left bawling in the middle of the street, her unicorn's disembodied head on her lap. {{storylink|Sound and Fury}}
Her arsenal includes razor-edged flowers, exploding kitten dolls, and her toy flying unicorn, '''Powdered Sugar''', which has some sort of beam weapon in its horn.
Professor Princess attacked a toy store where [[Bulkhead (Animated)|Bulkhead]] and [[Sari Sumdac]] were shopping as part of her crusade to destroy "awful, violent toys" (''oh, the irony...''). In her opening attack, she succeeded in incapacitating Bulkhead. However, Sari weakened her with a concentrated attack of very loud music from a [[Sari Sumdac's Key|key-enchanced]] stereo, and Bulkhead pinched Powdered Sugar's laser horn as it was about to fire, causing it to explode. The wannabe supervillainess was left bawling in the middle of the street, her unicorn's disembodied head on her lap. In a very "Godfather-Esque" like way. {{storylink|Sound and Fury}}
'''Bumblebee and Bulkhead's first [[Halloween]] turns even spookier when they encounter a giant spider that turns out to be the deadly Decepticon [[Blackarachnia (Animated)|Blackarachnia]].'''

==Synopsis==
Sari introduces Bumblebee, Bulkhead and Prime to the concept of Halloween, starting with selecting pumpkins. As she explains the idea of choosing just the right costume, Prime's attention is distracted by a large black widow spider decoration. He remembers back to his academy days...

''On an organic world, Optimus and his friend Elita-1 admire the strange webbing stretching across the high rocks, not knowing what it is, until Sentinel Prime calls to them to hurry up. Optimus cautions about the fact that such worlds are normally considered off-limits to Autobots, but there's supposedly a real Decepticon ship somewhere in the area. Elita's there for the historical value, but Sentinel just wants to get his hands on the energon cache that must be in it. Prime's still wary of potential punishment should they get caught, but figures he has to keep the other two from getting in over their heads. Sentinel insists that never happens{{m-}}right before the ground crumbles under their feet, sending all three plunging into a deep cavern. Strange, skittering noises echo from its dark reaches. Optimus activates his shoulder-light to see...''

Bulkhead snaps Prime's attention back to the present by donning a bedsheet (which just covers his head) and going "Boo," startling his leader. Prime claims a ghost from his past just has him jumpy, then stalks off.

Back at the Autobot base, Sari critiques Bumblebee and Bulkhead's costumes, but says her own costume is only one surprise planned for the night. Noticing Prime lost in thought, she uses her key to activate one of the car plant's cranes, swinging another spider decoration in his face. The unexpected sight of it gives Prime a bad flashback, and he quickly hacks the fake spider to bits. He admonishes Sari for making frivolous use of the All Spark Key, and she counters about him needlessly using his axe. Prime stares down at the remains of the decoration, and his thoughts travel back again...

''As Prime, Elita and Sentinel walk through the cavern, Sentinel enthuses about the rich hoard of energon he's sure they'll find soon. Prime shushes him as he hears something, and soon all three are casting their lights about, trying to pinpoint the skittering. The source reveals itself as an enormous, alien spider, which quickly traps Elita with some webbing. As Prime fights it off, Sentinel frees her with his charged shield, but the spider abruptly takes him down. Elita starts using her special power-download ability, but Optimus, holding back the spider, tells her it won't work on organics. She instead borrows the unconscious Sentinel's shield power and shield itself, using them to defend herself, then to bring down a huge stalactite to impale the spider. As Sentinel wakes up and Elita returns his shield, Prime says that it's not worth staying around, be it for history or energon. Sentinel still insists on one good reason to leave, and he gets three when another trio of giant spiders drop down to confront them. Sentinel quickly puts up his shield's energy barrier, covering Prime and Elita's retreat. Prime rolls out, and Elita follows, calling his name...''

Prime suddenly becomes aware of Sari calling his name to show off her costume{{m-}}a costume of him. He doesn't appreciate her vocal impersonation of him, and declines to join the trio on their trick-or-treat outing.

As Sari and the two Autobots progress though a local neighborhood, Bumblebee is a bit spooked by the atmosphere. Sari reminds him it's all pretend...unaware they're being tracked by an enormous spider traveling over the rooftops. As she coaches them through their first actual "trick or treat," Bumblebee spots the spider watching them and freaks out, but it's gone before anyone else sees it. Sari teases him for being more timid than Optimus, but 'Bee protests he knows the difference between a fake decoration and a real giant spider. Listening in from headquarters, Prime has Bumblebee clarify what he saw, then heads out to meet them, advising them to stay put.

''Racing through the caverns, Prime reaches the wreckage of a Decepticon warship. Separated from the other two, he heads inside, hoping to find them there. Instead, he finds an impressive stash of energon cubes, just as Sentinel predicted. He also finds an impressive stash of giant spider eggs. As the spiderlings hatch and start attacking, Prime gets stuck on some webbing, but Elita shows up in time to help. As they fight to escape from more full-grown spiders, Prime has Elita borrow his grappler ability. They bring down a huge stalactite through the ship's ruined overhead, grappling their way out as the energon detonates below them. However, Elita's download ability times out just then, and she goes plunging back too fast for Prime to catch her. Sentinel arrives on top of the ship as she plummets into the hold, but knowing the energon is going to blow any second, Prime grapples himself and Sentinel to safety rather than risk going after Elita just then. Once they break the surface, Prime scans for Elita's energy signature, but doesn't find it. A furious Sentinel blames everything on Prime.''

In the present, still en route to Sari and company's location, Prime swears he won't let it happen again. Meanwhile, Bumblebee stresses that they have to stay vigilant until Prime arrives{{m-}}even as Sari is yanked out from under them by the giant spider. Bumblebee quickly cuts Sari free, but as he and Bulkhead surround the spider, it transforms into a female robot who calls herself Blackarachnia. Sari's not too surprised or impressed by her femininity, but it makes a much bigger impression on Bulkhead{{m-}}right up to the point Blackarachnia stabs him with two of her spider legs, knocking him out. She quickly gives Bumblebee the same treatment, then tells Sari they should go, now that Sari's safe. Sari protests the two Autobots are her friends, and Blackarachnia apologizes, pretending she can't tell which robots are good or bad on Earth. As Sari futilely tries to revive Bulkhead with her All Spark Key, Blackarachnia notes that the organic nature of her venom precludes that solution, since the All Spark doesn't affect organics. She offers to try helping the Autobots if Sari will just hand her the key, but her ruse is interrupted when Prime lassos her legs out from under her. Blackarachnia appears shocked to see him, but quickly frees herself and starts fighting back{{m-}}using Bumblebee's stingers and Bulkhead's strength. Instead of borrowing any of Prime's powers, though, she judo-throws him across the street, then kidnaps Sari.

Prime desperately pursues the pair across the rooftops. He catches up, stuns BA with a faceful of foam, then grapples Sari free. Despite this respite and Sari's warning, Blackarachnia still catches Prime half-unaware. He fights back, but she dodges him constantly, claiming to know all his textbook Autobot Academy moves. Prime wonders if he knows her, and she berates him for forgetting his friends{{m-}}even if he remembered Sentinel. Prime is stunned to realize he's facing Elita-1. She finally relates what really happened that day:

''Trapped in the ship and surrounded by the spiders, Elita tries desperately to download their abilities. Instead, she is infected with their venom, and it mutates her into a freak, a half-organic, half-robotic being.''

Prime realizes that her half-organic nature is what masked her energy signature from his scans. BA sneers that if he'd known and saved her, she'd just have been dismantled and examined on some lab table on Cybertron. Prime reproves her for joining the Decepticons, but she counters that at least she knows where she stands with them. She webs up Prime and snatches Sari's key, certain that if anything can purge her organic half, it can. She plugs it into herself, but the unleashed energies begin causing all organic life in range, including Sari, to wither and sicken. Prime breaks free, but before he can stop Blackarachnia, she grabs up Sari and throws her off the roof. Sari snags a flagpole long enough for Bumblebee and Bulkhead to save her, leaving Prime free to deal with Blackarachnia. She collapses on her own, though. Prime surmises her spark can't survive without her organic half, but she's too weak to pull out the key and stop the reaction. Prime forces through the energy barrier around her and removes it for her, restoring the organic life in the area to normal. He helps her up, promising his group will find a cure for her if she comes with them, asking to earn back her trust. She seems to respond positively, but it's another sham. She stabs him unconscious and leaves, vowing it will be a long time before she trusts another Autobot, especially him.

Later, Prime returns Sari's key. She thanks him and admits he was right{{m-}}maybe it's time she gave the key a rest. Bumblebee trundles in painfully, still damaged from his fall after catching Sari, and asks if she could use it once more. Bulkhead asks who the bug-bot lady was, and Prime responds it was someone he should never have left behind. Elsewhere, Blackarachnia stands on a rooftop, gazing at the moon and sobbing over her fate.
===Transformers references===
* In the [[Generation 1 (cartoon)|Generation 1 animated series]], [[Elita One (G1)|Elita One]] was [[Optimus Prime (G1)|G1 Optimus Prime's]] paramour. The ''Animated'' incarnation of the character refrains from attempting to visually homage the original pink-and-white Elita, instead creating a blue-and-yellow pony-tailed character who bears a resemblance to Elita's earlier (pony-tailed) form, [[Ariel]]. Her relationship with Prime is less distinct (it almost appears as if she's ''Sentinel's'' girlfriend at one point), with this episode's flashbacks not suggesting any romantic connection between the two, but the present-day scenes suggesting ''some'' kind of personal tension (though that could be guilt on Prime's part and anger on Elita's).
* Sentinel Prime is depicted here as Optimus Prime's friend and peer, whereas in all other series he's either been Prime's mentor, a superior officer, or a predecessor.
* With this episode, [[energon cube]]s make their first appearance in Transformers cartoons since ''Beast Wars''. They look ''exactly'' like they did in the Generation 1 cartoon, which even ''Beast Wars'' didn't pull off.

===Miscellaneous trivia===
* This is the first episode to not feature [[Ratchet (Animated)|Ratchet]] or [[Prowl (Animated)|Prowl]].
* A discarded helmet that matches Blackarachnia's head can be seen in a corner of the abandoned Decepticon warship.
* This episode seems to make a point of noting that Sari's key has been a little overused previously, and that it can't be used to cure every TF injury. The writers evidently anticipated that reaction from the audience.
* Referring to himself as "vertically challenged," Bumblebee seems to be over his height complex, which was such a major point in "[[Total Meltdown]]".
* Bulkhead's "ghost" costume, with its constant cloud of pesticides at the bottom, coincidentally resembles "Pig-Pen's" costume from ''[[wikipedia:It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown|It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown]]''.
* Judging how Blackarachnia [[Spider-Man|can swing from a thread]], the Autobots had best take a look overhead.
* This is the first time Sentential Prime has been fully on screen. When he appeared in [[Transform and Roll Out]], all that was seen of him was his head.
* This episode is the "Halloween" special and is the first Special in the series.
