The Junkions fall victim to subliminal messages from the Quintessons, and prove that TV does indeed cause more violence.

Detailed synopsis
Searching for one of their journals, the Quintessons discover that it has landed on the planet of Junk. After observing the native Junkions, the Quintessons send a Sharkticon retrieval team. The Sharkticons locate the journal quickly, but are then driven off by the Junkions. The Quintessons hijack the television broadcasts the Junkions watch, planting subliminal messages telling the Junkions that being neat is a good thing...and the other races are their enemies.

Travelling through the Junkion sector, Sky Lynx comes under attack by Astrotrain. While the two battle, the Junkions fire on both Transformers. Sky Lynx races back to Cybertron, and informs Rodimus Prime and Ultra Magnus. The Autobot leader sends the Aerialbots to investigate. Astrotrain also returns to Chaar to report his encounter, but Galvatron doesn't care. Cyclonus, however, is interested, and takes Scourge and the Sweeps to investigate. The Aerialbots arrive, and get caught in the crossfire between the Junkions and the Quintessons. The Aerialbots form Superion and target the Quintessons. However, the Quintessons ship damages Superion, who is then rescued by Sky Lynx. Cyclonus and the Sweeps arrive to investigate, and withdraw after being fired upon.

During the battle, the transmitter sending the messages to the Junkions was damaged, causing the Junkions to believe that they should transmit their broadcasts to other races. The affected races soon begin lashing out at their neighbors, causing what would become an interstellar dark age. The Quintessons see a good possibility here, as they could sell weapons to the warring races, but decide that the recovery of the journal is the higher priority. Back on Chaar, Galvatron displays anger at Cyclonus for going to investigate Junkion, but Cylconus continues on, believing that to turn the Junkions on the Autobots is too good an opportunity for the Decepticons. Hoping to find answers, Rodimus, Magnus, Kup, and Blaster head to investigate in Omega Supreme, but come under attack by Cyclonus and the Sweeps. Omega is damaged, and the Autobots draw the Decepticons away from the wounded Guardian robot. Finally, Omega Supreme is repaired, and the Decepticons retreat.

Meanwhile, the affected races have converged on Junkion, and are firing on everyone in sight. Chaar has also been targeted, and Galvatron is drawn into the bedlam. Knowing they have one chance, the Quintessons make a move for the journal, but a stray blast from Galvatron damages their shuttle and sends the journal hurtling into the void. Arriving, Blaster determines that the transmissions are the cause of the violence, and sends out transmissions to counter them. Their senses restored, the Junkions stop fighting everyone...and start concentrating on the Decepticons, who retreat. Rodimus asks Wreck-Gar what happened, but Wreck-Gar doesn't know.

Returning to their ship, the two Quintessons prepare to accept their punishment, but their superior declares that finding the journal is now their priority...before their clients do.
*When the US comic needed a fill-in issue, this episode was chosen and script adapted. While the UK offices were in no position to pass up on any US material being produced, this issue also completely conflicted with the Movie-Future they had established. To sidestep continuity problems, Simon Furman wrote a framing sequence establishing US #43 as an imaginary story dreamed up by Wreck-Gar, as part of a lead in to his Space Pirates arc.
Desparate to destroy the Autobots, the Quintessons make a deal with the Decepticons.

Detailed synopsis
As we last left our heroes, the Quintessons had just blown up their homeworld in an attempt to destroy Rodimus Prime and the Matrix. However, the Aerialbots managed to rescue them, but their ship was destroyed in the explosion, sending them hurtling through space. Ultra Magnus detects an object that they're closing in on quickly, but isn't sure if it's a planet or a ship.

Meanwhile, Cyclonus is briefing Galvatron on the recent developments, including the creation of a space platform to guard Earth. Intrigued, Galvatron alters course, deciding to punish the Humans for assuming that they could build something to defend themselves against him. Some of the Sweeps are unnerved by Galvatron's behavior, but Scourge tells them to shut up. Arriving at Earth, Blurr and Wheelie, carrying Metroplex's Transformation Cog, spot Galvatron. They warn Outpost One, but Galvatron destroys it with ease, then turns his sights on the Autobots. Fleeing to Jupiter, the Autobots are forced to abandon ship, with the Cog, but Galvatron causes a nearby storm on the planet to explode...cause he can do that, and stuff. Blaster sends warning to Mars, where Marissa Faireborn of Earth Defense Command heads out on a rescue mission.

Meanwhile, the Quintessons are contemplating how best to celebrate the death of the Autobot leader, when they learn that Rodimus survived. They conclude that they have no choice but to make an alliance with the one group who can help them: the Decepticons. Crashing on Goo, the Autobots discover that they can walk in the substance, but cannot get out. Kup points out that while they're stranded, it could be worse. Predictably, a machine arrives and begins sucking up various garbage. Springer is caught and sliced up, and Rodimus is next. Despite Arcee and Kup's pleas, Rodimus manages to clog the blades, causing it to crash. Judge Deliberata is surprised, claiming that the Autobots weren't programmed for self-sacrifice. On Chaar, the Quintessons offer the Decepticons enough Energon to get them to listen to their offer: destroy the Autobots. Although it's an offer the Decepticons are eager to accept, Blitzwing is suspicious of the Quintessons, finding them familiar, but Motormaster decides to have a vote. The yays have it, but Blitzwing decides to remain on Chaar. The Quintessons are pleased, saying that the Decepticons will soon be theirs...again?

From her ship, Faireborn detects metal fragments which were blown all the way to Jupiter's moon of Io. On the surface of the Jovian moon, Wheelie and Blurr wake up, not realizing that they are not alone. Arriving at Chaar, Galvatron is angered when Blitzwing informs him that the Decepticons left following others, and Galvatron vows to reclaim his rightful place as Decepticon leader. On Goo, the Autobots are searching for a device which will shut off whatever is keeping the goo warm and soft. Suddenly, the Quintesson ship arrives, and the Decepticons jump out, firing with all they can shoot.
The Decepticons were thought to be defeated and the Autobots, now led by Rodimus Prime, are looking forward for a more peaceful future. Well, they can’t be more wrong about that.

Detailed synopsis
It is the year 2005. Autobots had reclaimed Cybertron while the Decepticons, now squabbling with each other for energon, retreated to the planet Chaar. Cyclonus realize that to return the Decepticons to fighting form, they need drastic measures.

Somewhere else, the first Galactic Olympics are being held. Blurr is griping about being stuck in a mission with Wheelie when he wants to join the events. But Perceptor wants them to go to Autobot City on Earth, to deliver the new Transformation Cog for Metroplex (his old one was damaged during the battle in the movie).

Meanwhile, the Galactic Olympics were being sabotaged. In the middle of the confusion, Spike, Kup and Ultra Magnus were kidnapped. Rodimus Prime suspects Decepticon shenanigans. Arcee and Springer follow the saboteur’s spaceship escaping the now supposed-to-be quarantined planet.

Cyclonus sneaks into Unicron’s memory banks to watch how Rodimus Prime shoves Galvatron to space. He then did some fast calculations and comes up with Galvatron being in the planet Thrull. There they see their leader soaking up in the hot lava pools.

On Earth, Blaster and Outback goes to Federated Republic of Carbombya to investigate EDC reports of Decepticons in that country. Outback, equipped with a “Decepticon detector”, then flushes out Dirge and Ramjet. The two Autobots get the coordinates of Chaar from them...which they report to Rodimus Prime who wants to go there to investigate.

Arcee and Springer, meanwhile, commandeered the Skuxxoid's (that alien mercenary guy) bigger but uglier spaceship. The alien guy escapes and then calls his benefactor to confirm that the Autobots indeed suspect the Deceptions to be behind the disruption. The tentacled, egg-shaped benefactor listens to the report and then tunes out as he looks on as their prisoners, Spike, Kup and Ultra Magnus, were being led by a Sharkticon.

Cyclonus, Scourge and the Sweeps return to Chaar, where the rest of the Decepticons are convinced that the solution to their problems was to have a strong leader again. They cheered when they heard that Galvatron lives, and were desperate enough that they give their remaining scraps of energon for reviving him. Rodimus Prime and Grimlock are spying nearby. Rodimus almost pities them, while Grimlock finds it funny (giving a rather possessed-sounding chuckle). Rodimus realizes that the Decepticons are too down on their luck to be the ones responsible for the kidnappings. Their cover suddenly gets blown and the Decepticons attacks.
Menasor: "Resist me, and be destroyed!"

Cyclonus: "Once Decepticons nearly held the quadrant through terror. Now we scrap like slarrgs over a few energon cubes. Is this how you honour the memory of Galvatron?! Is this the fate of the mighty Decepticon Empire?!"
Astrotrain: “In the days of Megatron, it was not like this.”<br>
Cyclonus: “You mean Galvatron.” <br>
Cyclonus and the Sweeps: “Hail Galvatron! Hail Galvatron! Hail Galvatron!”<br>
Astrotrain (Muttering to Menasor): “Well, they were the same guy.”

Quintessons: "Autobots, you walk the thin line between glory and despair. Soon, you shall cross it."
Kup: "Nah, I was the same way until I was blown apart a few times."

Ultra Magnus: “Don’t you want to say something about concord and tranquillity in the galaxy?”<br>
Springer: “So much for quarantine. I need a ship!”<br>
Other Notes
Animation and/or technical glitches
* The Constructicons form Devastator, even though Mixmaster is absent in this episode.

* Reinforcing this first point, when Menasor strikes Devastator, we get to see only Bonecrusher, Scavenger, Hook and Long Haul when they are forcibly split up.

* The winner of the race in the Galactic Olympics uses Jazz's character model, but a few seconds later (if we are to assume that the results being read out after the scene-shift are for the race we've just seen) he's identified as "Munka Spanka." That possibility notwithstanding, it's also possible that the character was intended to be Jazz, only for the lines referring to him to be changed at some point during production. Scatman Crothers, Jazz's voice actor, had recently passed away, but Munka Spanka doesn't speak anyway, so...
Continuity errors
* During the course of the episode, dead and deactivated bots are seen loitering around on Chaar. The list includes Kickback, Shrapnel, Thundercracker, Skywarp, and the supposedly-on-Thrull Galvatron, celebrating his own imminent rescue.
*Rodimus Prime makes mention of his bad luck by saying "remember the last two guys who tried to look out for me". Funny thing is, no, we don't. In fact that statement hardly seems to relate to anything...
The Transformers: The Movie is an animated feature film based on the original Transformers toyline. It was released in the United States on August 8, 1986.

Often referred to by fans simply as "the movie" or "TFTM", this film opens with characters who had been featured in the first two years of the toyline and associated media (cartoons, comic books, etc.), but quickly introduces new characters and kills many of the old ones to make room. In particular, Optimus Prime, Megatron, and Starscream are all destroyed during the course of the film.

The movie was a step up in almost every area from the television series, with a more sophisticated plot, more serious treatment of war and violence, a hugely ambitious scope and a greatly increased animation budget with well-known celebrities providing voice work. For these reasons the film remains very popular with children of the 1980s.
Brief synopsis
A planet-sized Transformer called Unicron who eats other planets is approaching Cybertron. As part of their continuing wars, the Autobots and Decepticons have a fierce battle on Earth which sees both Optimus Prime and Megatron mortally wounded. Prime passes the Matrix of Leadership to Ultra Magnus and dies, and Megatron is transformed by Unicron into Galvatron. Starscream (briefly) assumes leadership of the Decepticons, but is killed when Galvatron arrives at Cybertron. Galvatron then chases the surviving Autobots on Earth across space, splitting them up and taking the Matrix. The Autobots find their way back to each other, and follow Galvatron to Cybertron just as Unicron transforms into robot mode and begins to eat their world. Travelling inside Unicron, Hot Rod recovers the Matrix, transforms into Rodimus Prime, and uses the Matrix to destroy Unicron.

Full synopsis
In the first sequence of the film, a mechanical planet called Unicron is shown travelling through the depths of space, then approaching and destroying another metal planet which has robotic inhabitants, much like Cybertron. During the attack, robots, vehicles, buildings, and even large chunks of rock float off the surface of the planet and spiral into the large "mouth" on Unicron.

The scene then transitions to Cybertron, and the narrator explains that it is the year 2005, and that the Decepticons are now in control of the planet. The Autobots are preparing to launch an assault to retake the planet from hidden bases on two of Cybertron's moons. The Autobots launch a shuttle to pick up a final shipment of energon from Earth before they strike.

Plans for the attack are overheard by Laserbeak, who reports back to Megatron. The Decepticons attack the Autobot shuttle en route to Earth, wiping out its crew (including Ironhide, Prowl, Ratchet and the guy in the picture up there). Using the Autobots' own shuttle, the Decepticons are able to get very close to the Autobots' base on Earth, Autobot City, before they are detected, and begin a devastating surprise attack on the unprepared city.

During the battle at Autobot City, both Optimus Prime and Megatron suffer mortal injuries, and a number of other characters are also killed. Eventually the Decepticons retreat, but the damage suffered by the Autobots has been severe.

For an extensive synopsis of the battle, see Battle of Autobot City.

Shortly after the battle, Prime lies on his deathbed. He passes the reins of leadership to Ultra Magnus and gives him the Matrix of Leadership. (Though Hot Rod actually touches the Matrix before Magnus does.) Prime relates a prophecy: "One day, an Autobot shall rise from our ranks, and use the power of the Matrix to light our darkest hour." He then gives the oath, "'Til all are one", and dies. This sequence of events is observed remotely by Unicron, who appears unusually concerned by the survival of the Matrix.

The Decepticons are making their escape aboard Astrotrain, but are too heavy for him to get them all home under his own power. After putting the matter to a fair vote, the Decepticons decide to throw their injured members off the ship to better the chance of survival for the rest. One of the most severely injured Decepticons is Megatron. Starscream tosses him out and claims leadership of the Decepticon army.

Megatron and the other adrift Decepticons then encounter Unicron in interstellar space. Unicron offers to rebuild Megatron and his minions in exchange for their service. Megatron agrees, and is reformatted into Galvatron. The other Decepticons are turned into Cyclonus, Scourge, and the Sweeps. Unicron provides them with a ship, and sends them to kill Ultra Magnus and destroy the Matrix, stating that the Matrix is the only thing which can stand in his way.

Galvatron first stops at Cybertron to take his revenge by killing Starscream and reclaiming leadership of the Decepticons. Almost immediately afterwards, Unicron arrives in Cybertron's vicinity and devours at least two moonsm-both of the Autobots' moon bases are destroyed. Under coercion by Unicron, Galvatron finally heads to Earth to kill Ultra Magnus, but Magnus and the other surviving Autobots flee in a pair of shuttles. Eventually Galvatron manages to cause one shuttle to crash on yet another metal planet (Quintessa), and detonates the other with a volley of missiles. However, the Autobots in the second shuttle escape unnoticed by separating the front portion of their shuttle just before impact.

The Autobots in the crashed shuttle, Hot Rod, Kup, and the Dinobots, find themselves separated and in a hostile environment. Hot Rod and Kup are captured by a squad of Allicons and taken before a Quintesson judge and his court. While being held there, they learn the name and nature of Unicron from Kranix, a survivor of the planet destroyed in the opening of the film, which he calls Lithone. Meanwhile, the Dinobots encounter and befriend a young, wild Autobot named Wheelie who has been living alone on Quintessa. Together, they crash the trial just as Hot Rod and Kup are fighting losing odds against the Quintessons' Sharkticons. The tide is turned, and the Autobots commandeer a Quintesson ship.

The other group of Autobots has landed on the planet Junkion to make repairs, but are attacked yet again by Galvatron, who was tipped off to their survival by Unicron. During the battle, Ultra Magnus tries to open the Matrix to use its power, but is unable to do so, and instead is killed. Galvatron absconds the Matrix, taking it away to Unicron. The remaining Autobotsm-Perceptor, Springer, Arcee, and Spike's son Danielm-are then ambushed by Junkions, the eponymous natives of Junkion, who are also giant transforming robots. This battle is cut short, however, by the arrival of Hot Rod's group in their Quintesson ship. After exchanging the universal greeting they all make friends, and the Junkions restore Ultra Magnus to life. Together, the whole group travels to Cybertron to try to recover the Matrix.

Galvatron attempts to open the Matrix to use its power against Unicron, but is also unable to get it open. Unicron, not pleased with this attempted treachery, shocks Galvatron by transforming from a planet into a planet-sized robot. Unicron plucks Galvatron off his chest and swallows him, Matrix and all, and then begins attacking Cybertron itself. Shockwave scrambles the Decepticon forces to defend the planet, but they are ineffective against so large an enemy. Shortly the Autobots arrive from Junkion, and fly the Quintesson ship straight through Unicron's eye. This impact destroys the ship, and the Autobots fall out inside Unicron. Hot Rod, separated from the others, eventually runs into Galvatron. During their fight, Hot Rod gets his hands on the Matrix and hears Optimus's voice speak the words, "Arise, Rodimus Prime." Hot Rod grows in stature, adopts a much sterner demeanor, and quickly dispatches Galvatron by tossing him through Unicron's hull out into space. He then opens the Matrix, which fills Unicron with light and begins destroying him.

In the meantime, the other Autobots inside Unicron have located some of their comrades from the moon bases who had been presumed dead, including Bumblebee and Daniel's father, Spike. The Autobots, including Rodimus, escape through Unicron's remaining eye just as he begins to fall apart and explode. The scene then immediately shifts to the surface of Cybertron, wherem-for unclear reasonsm-the Autobots seem to be in charge again. Rodimus predicts an era of peace and prosperity, and the film closes with a shot of Unicron's severed head still floating in orbit around Cybertron.

Significance in Transfandom
The Transformers: The Movie remains one of the most important elements of the entire Transformers brand, both within the fiction and from the perspective of the brand's popularity and "mindshare".

Fictionally, it established several story concepts that have been used repeatedly in the years since 1986, some of whichm-such as Unicron and the Matrixm-are now central to the entire Transformers mythos. The movie is also the centerpiece of the most well-known Transformers continuity: the G1 animated universe. The G1 cartoon is split into "pre-movie" and "post-movie" sections which feature different characters and settings, and even somewhat different visual styles. (Most pre-movie episodes were animated by the studio Toei, while most post-movie episodes were animated by AKOM.)

On a practical note, it was widely available on videotape, and remained so long after the Generation 1 cartoon had gone off the air. Only a handful of series episodes were available on video, making The Transformers: The Movie the logical choice for someone looking to pick up a Transformers cartoon; this made it far more well-known among fans than any particular cartoon episode.

To an entire generation of young fans, the movie was the most visually spectacular and narratively epic Transformers experience of their entire youth. Events such as the death of Optimus Prime are widely reported to have reduced many kids to tears. It is hardly a surprise that these emotional experiences embedded themselves deeply in many fans' memories.

Criticisms
The Box office of the film was awful, mostly because of the poor distribution and advertising done to promote it. Most critics were very harsh on the film, calling it the "world's longest toy commercial".

All this is not all to say that the movie is a "masterpiece", exactly. The film displays an arguably cynical attitude towards itself as a vehicle for advertising toys, especially in the way beloved characters are killedm-sometimes gratuitouslym-for sake of justifying the story's focus on a new group of toys. (Note that the poster at the top of this article features only new characters.)

Further, the two primary plot devicesm-Unicron and the Matrixm-have no prior establishment in the fiction. Unicron is given no backstory or justification; he simply exists, and is very dangerous, and is afraid of the Matrix, all for no adequately explained reason. The introduction of the Matrix itself is a heavy retcon. The story asks the audience to accept that this cosmically powerful artifact has been in Prime's possession all along (even though an X-ray of Optimus Prime's innards in the second season episode "A Prime Problem" show absolutely no signs of said Matrix), but has somehow never been relevant before.

Finally, the movie bears many similarities to Star Wars: There are several character-parallels (Springer is a Han Solo-type and Arcee even has Princess Leia's hairdo!), the primary threat is similar (it's the Death Star... but it transforms!), and both feature a climactic battle where the young hero hears the voice of his wise mentor one last time before saving the day.

To be a bit more fair to The Transformers: The Movie, however, most of these similarities are either superficial (Arcee's Leia-hair; Megatron's "lightsaber" he briefly uses in his duel against Optimus Prime) or can be seen as elements common to thousands of years worth of epic storytelling through human history, not just common to Star Wars. As a simple example, the phenomenon of two charismatic leaders dealing each other mortal injuries in battle hearkens back to some versions of the "King Arthur" myth; in their final battle, Arthur and his arch-enemy Sir Mordred deal one another lethal injuries and both apparently expire -- though Arthur according to the legend will return when England's need is greatest.

Though most likely coincidental, the movie also bears many similarities to the Marvel Comics Fantastic Four story "The Galactus Trilogy":

* The presence of an enormous world-devouring cosmic entity that threatens to destroy the heroes' home planet (Galactus/Unicron).

* The presence of a single item that is the only thing that can stop said cosmic entity (Ultimate Nullifier/Matrix of Leadership).

* The presence of a herald of said cosmic entity, who ultimately betrays the entity (Silver Surfer/Galvatron).

Trivia and controversies
This film was one of the last professional performances by Orson Welles, if not the very last. According to production materials shown at 2000 by Tim Finn, the voice recording sessions for The Transformers: The Movie were done on September 10 and 11 of 1985. Welles died on October 10 of that same year. It has often been speculated that Unicron's last line ("Destiny... you cannot destroy my destiny...!") was recorded by another actorm-possibly Nimoym-because it sounds different than the other lines. This speculation has been quashed by statements by Transformers voice director Wally Burr.

The Dinobot Snarl is mysteriously absent from almost the entire movie (maybe he was scared of getting killed off), even though the Dinobots as a group are featured prominently. It is unclear why this is the case, but one possible explanation is that copies of the script which have come into fans' hands repeatedly list the Dinobots but never make mention of Snarl by name. In fact, at one point the script refers to "the four Dinobots". Despite this, Snarl does appear in three very brief shots, although he has no lines and no action.

Also curiously absent are the 1985 Autobot cars and Mini-Vehicles, such as Inferno, Smokescreen, Cosmos, Warpath, etc. It would seem that these characters were available at the time of the movie:
* Perceptor and Blaster both debuted at the same time in the cartoon as the 1985 cars, and both play prominent roles in the movie.
* Grapple is seen very briefly during the battle for Autobot City.
* The 1985 Decepticons (Astrotrain, Dirge, etc.) appear in the film.
* Tracks, Red Alert and Smokescreen all appeared in storyboards but not the finished film.

With the exception of Starscream, Unicron, and possibly Shockwave, only the Autobots suffered causalities in the movie. All of the other "dead" Decepticons from the Autobot City battle were rebuilt into Galvatron's new troops, and although more Decepticons were shown taking heavy damage and suffering huge casualties while fighting Unicron, their identities and their condition are uncertain. Additionally, both Starscream and Unicron survived in the post-movie series in some form or another. Shockwave's death in the finished film is highly uncertain, although in the script it is fairly strongly implied. He does make some appearances in crowd shots in later cartoon episodes, but these may be examples of the fairly common animation errors in those episodes.

Originally, Ultra Magnus's "death sequence" on Junkion called for him to be lassoed and drawn and quartered by the Sweeps' energy beams, but this was deemed too graphic for audiences, hence the less disturbing "shot to death" sequence seen instead. There is evidence that the original sequence had been fully animated when the decision was made, however; the Sweeps still kept their solid energy lassos when they fire upon Mags, and Mags is seen visibly straining against what appears to be said lassos (edited out and replaced with laser fire) before exploding.

A number of other sequences were storyboarded but dropped, presumably without ever being animated. Most notable among these was a scene that would have shown the Autobots finally bringing down Devastator with a barrage of missiles (and the Constructicons subsequently shooting Red Alert in the back), and the Decepticons dogpiling Optimus Prime, explaining why he seems to be standing up just before his fight with Megatron.

In Hungary, the movie has two dubs. One of them is ancient and unprofessional, the other recent and more professional. The second and more disliked one has a reputation among the fans for including more profanities than the original version of the film. Although Spike's "Oh, shit!" line was cut, Ironhide, Galvatron and the Dinobots say terms akin to "assholes", "jerk", "stupid", "rotten", and "ass-wipes" (this one even twice, when referring to the Decepticons). Quite interesting, seeing as the dubs produced in that era have been known for freeing the movies of their swear words. These dubs are also infamous for using untranslated or incorrectly translated names, and random voice actors for random characters with random voice-pacing. These names include Unicornis (Unicron), Mega-robot (Devastator), Constructors (Constructicons), Deceptors (Decepticons), and Jettison (Astrotrain, probably derived and mis-interpreted from the line "Jettison some weight."). The DVD case has G.I. Joe pictures printed on it, as well as on the DVD itself. Spiffy. It's also worth noting that Bumblebee in the 2007 movie has the same voice he had in the second dub of The Transformers: The Movie. Probably a coincidence, since that guy supplied half of the voices for the cast back then.

Rumors have occasionally circulated in the fandom of additional animated footage that was dropped from the film, such as ultra-violent battle scenes. No evidence has ever surfaced to back these claims; the only known edits are those listed below.

Animation Errors
There are a few notable animation errors in the movie:
* When Ultra Magnus accepts the Matrix, he's seen inserting it into his chest twice, or at best readjusting its "fit". (Some fans have joked that Mags was forcing the Matrix inside him, as another sign that it had chosen Hot Rod as the new leader and rejected him.)
* Swoop's lower leg appears for a brief second during the Autobot City battle, long before the rest of him gets there.

* Not so much an error, but if you watch Sludge when he's haymaker'ed by Devastator, his eyes pop out of their sockets in Looney Tunes fashion.

* When Soundwave sends out his casette troops, Rumble is the same color as Frenzy.

* Sunstreaker appears with Huffer, Bluestreak and Kup when they observe Hot Rod firing on Ironhide's shuttle. Sunstreaker later appears as Optimus Prime's co-pilot when they arrive with the Dinobots, and is seen disembarking the shuttle along with Optimus Prime and Hound.

* Hot Rod has at least two totally different transformation schemes during the course of the film.

* When Hot Rod tells the Junkions the universal greeting, the Autobot insignia on his chest is coloured black.

Continuity Errors
* Despite running out of energon goodies on Quintessa, Hot Rod has at least one to offer to the Junkions. Maybe he got some on the ship.

* So Ultra Magnus just happens to a ready-made Matrix chamber? Is this standard issue for all Autobots?

Formatting and Edits
Although it was billed in some advertisements before its theatrical release as being "widescreen", the movie was in fact animated in a 4:3 (fullscreen) aspect ratio. For its theatrical screenings, the film was matted down in the projector by the projectionist to a 16:9 aspect ratio (widescreen), chopping the top and bottom off the picture, but all video transfers of the movie were done without mattes, meaning that there was actually more picture visible in the fullscreen video and DVD releases than there would have been in theaters. Across 2006 and 2007, new editions of the DVD of the film were released by Sony BMG and Metrodome which applied the mattes in order to replicate the original theatrical presentation of the film for the first time in home entertainment. Some fans, however, didn't realize that the film wasn't actually animated in widescreen, and, hearing that the DVD was to be in widescreen, expected to see the fullscreen image with additional footage at the sides, causing them to complain that the top and bottom were cut off, thereby totally missing the point.

Several English-language versions of the film exist, with the following differences in content from the American theatrical run:

* In some versions (notably the European version) the opening credits are replaced with a scrolling text ("Star Wars style") which provides backstory.

* In some versions (notably the European version) the film ends with a narrator reassuring the audience that Optimus Prime will return.

* Instances of swearing in the film (there are two) were edited out; sometimes one, sometimes both. Those instances are: Spike yelling, "Oh shit, what are we gonna do now?" after the self-destructing Moon Base 2 fails to scratch Unicron, and Ultra Magnus growling, "Open, damn it, open!" while trying to open the Matrix to fend off Galvatron and the Sweeps on Junkion. The United Kingdom cinema version had the swearing included but, when it was released on VHS in the United Kingdom, Spike's line was cut. However it has been restored on all United Kingdo DVD releases.

*Instead of DEG, the Rank Film "gong man" appears before the film, as Rank were the United Kingdom distributors.

Commercial Releases
* The movie was originally released in North America on home video in 1987 by Family Home Entertainment, minus Spike's swear. Not long after, it was releasd in the UK by Video Gems. This version featured the opening text crawl and closing narration inherent to the UK version of the film. In Australia, the film was releaed on video by RCA/Columbia Pictures/Hoyts. In Japan, Hillcrane released a Laserdisc version alongside a VHS copy.

*The movie was realeased spottily in the 90s, beginning with a budget VHS by Avid Home Entertainment in 1991. Malofilm released a VHS in Canada in 1995, notable for being the first home entertainment version to include Spike's swear. In 1998, Japanese company Pioneer produced another pair of Laserdisc and VHS releases. In 1999, things kicked off when American company Kid Rhino secured the Transformers license and released the film on VHS once again.

*The 21st century's flirtation with The Transformers: The Movie started with a UK budget VHS release of that country's version by Maverick Entertainment. A Japanese company called CatCo followed this up with a VideoCD, and Malofilmm-now Sevillem-were the first to release a DVD version of the film, though it was just a dump of their VHS version.

*In November 2000, The Transformers: The Movie got its first, full professional DVD release from Kid Rhino. This edition, labelled a "Special Collector's Edition", is the first to feature remastered video and audio, and several special features, including storyboards and an interview with Vince DiCola. Rhino concurrently released this version on VHS, sans extras.

*In 2001 in the UK, Maverick Entertainment released their own much-delayed DVD version of the film. It was the UK version of the film, but included Spike's swear. However, the release was burdened by badly interlaced video, though notably included the StarTV dub version of the Headmasters episode "Four Warriors Come out of the Sky" as an extra. This version (including the Headmasters episode) was simultaneously released on VHS.

*The movie was released on DVD in Australia in 2003 by Madman Entertainment, using the same video as the Maverick version, but distinguished by some nifty new cover art by Don Figueroa, and special features not seen on other editions, such as The Touch music video and 80s TV spots.

*After acquiring the license to release Transformers DVDs in the UK, Metrodome focused on completing their run of series box sets before turning their attention to the movie properly, releasing only a cheap budget DVD of the UK version through Prism Leisure with no extras, and a UMD of the same version.

*In 2005, Metrodome released "Transformers: The Movie - Reconstructed", a new version of the film designed to expose as much of the animated picture as possible. This, however, only resulted in exposing the rough, unfinished edges of the animation, and an overly pale remaster was compounded by excessive interlacing due to an unnecessary NTSC to PAL transfer. This, coupled with a 5.1 remix from Magno Sound, featuring the same extra sound effects that they added to Rhino's season box sets, made this release both controversial and disappointing to many. This was the first time that the US version of the movie was released in the UK, and the first to feature the US poster art as a cover (although a Silverscreen store exclusive version of the disc included a reversible cover with the UK poster art as well). Extras include trailers, TV spots, the character biographies from the Madman release, and a subtitled version of "Four Warriors Come out of the Sky".

*For the movie's 20th anniversary in 2006, new license holder Sony BMG released a two-disc special edition of the film, featuring both a high-quality widescreen remaster and the original fullscreen version, audio commentaries from crew and fans, several new featurettes interviewing those involved in the movie's production, storyboards, tv spots, American and Japanese commercials and more. Most notably, this version included the first Western release of "Scramble City", albeit silent and unsubtitled, featuring only audio commentary. This release featured two covers by Don Figueroa: one is of the '84-'85 cast that appear in the movie, and one is of the movie's new characters, available either as a lenticular hologram that switches between the two, or as a reversible sleeve with the images printed on either side.

*Delayed a bit to coincide with the hype for the 2007 live-action movie, Metrodome also released a two-disc "Ultimate Edition" with a different widescreen master. Like "Reconstructed", this version used the US edition of the film, but this time, the UK version was also included, in fullscreen, on the second disc. Extras include TV spots, commercials, the Madman biographies, storyboards, commentary, Scramble City (with audio and subtitles), featurettes with Flint Dille and Peter Cullen, and more. The double-disc edition was sold in a steel case featuring new art by Andrew Wildman, with the UK poster art adorning the standard case inside. Various store exclusives were available, including postcards from Play.Com, a reversible cover with the US poster art from HMV, art cards from Virgin Megastore and posters from Woolworths and Toys R Us. It was also available in an extra-less single-disc version.

*Madman produced their two-disc special edition through some collaboration with Metrodome, and consequently it features much of the same content, with additional extras taking the form of The Touch music video and a bonus episode of Beast Wars. This release again features cover artwork by Don Figueroa, specifically the cover of IDW's Transformers: The Animated Movie adaptation.

Comic Adaptations
*A comic adaptation of the movie was published by Marvel Comics in 1986, concurrently with the movie's theater run. It was based off a non-finalized version of the script, and differs in many details from the final film. Additionally, most of the major character models (and possibly their unedited original character write-ups) appear in Issue #4 of the Transformers Universe series.

*A four-part adaptation was released in 2006/2007 by IDW Publishing, as part of the film's 20th anniversary celebration. It was titled Transformers: The Animated Movie to differentiate it from the Michael Bay live-action film. Unlike its predecessor, it adheres rigidly to the script and plot of the finished movie.

Soundtrack
Released on Scotti Bros. Records, the soundtrack to the movie was made available in both vinyl LP (long-playing) record form and audio cassette. At an undetermined point in the 90's, it was released on CD as well (there are no new markings on the CD booklet or outer case to indicate when the CD was released).

*1. The Touch - Stan Bush
*2. Instruments Of Destruction - N.R.G.
*3. Death Of Optimus Prime - Vince DiCola
*4. Dare - Stan Bush
*5. Nothin's Gonna Stand In Our Way - Spectre General
*6. The Transformers (Theme) - Lion
*7. Escape - Vince DiCola
*8. Hunger - Spectre General
*9. Autobot/Decepticon Battle - Vince DiCola
*10. Dare To Be Stupid - "Weird Al" Yankovic

In 1997, the newly-formed 3H produced as a 1997 exclusive a double-CD set called Til All Are One. The second disc contains the all of the background score (by Vince DiCola) that was not on the original soundtrack, including several "alternate" pieces for scenes that used songs from the original soundtrack, plus "Legacy", the audition piece that got Vince the job. Other albums released by 3H which include music from the movie are BotCon 97: The Concert, The Protoform Sessions, Artistic Transformations, and Lighting Their Darkest Hour: The Complete Music Score. All of these 3H albums are long since sold out.

On May 29, 2007, Legacy Recordings re-released the soundtrack in a 20th Anniversary Edition containing the above tracks from the original 1986 release plus these additional tracks:

*11. Unicron Medley - Vince DiCola
*12. Moon Base 2 - Shuttle Launch - Vince DiCola
*13. Megatron Must Be Stopped (Parts 1 and 2) - Vince DiCola
*14. The Transformers Theme (Alternate) - Stan Bush and Vince DiCola
The battle for the Key to the Plasma Energy Chamber comes to an end.

Detailed synopsis
With the arrival of Scorponok, the Autobots scatter, but Arcee and Daniel are captured. As the Decepticons depart in Scorponok, Optimus Prime orders the Autobots to move out. However, Spike insists on letting him and Cerebros remain behind. Though Optimus believes that Spike is their only hope if Galvatron should activate the Plasma Energy Chamber, he relents.

On Cybertron, Ultra Magnus's forces are fighting off the Decepticons, but the tide is turned when the Headmasters and Targetmasters arrive, allowing Galvatron to claim victory. Scourge and Cyclonus explain what happened on Nebulos, but Galvatron is so disgusted that he's on the verge of reducing all of them to scrap. However, Zarak explains that he has the Key, and has control over Scorponok. Though still disgusted, Galvatron agrees to at least talk, while ordering a new rocket he installed on Cybertron to be activate. They prepare to torture Daniel, but Arcee gives them the Key.

Heading for Cybertron, Optimus recieves a vision from Alpha Trion, telling the Autobot leader to preserve the key at all costs. However, Hot Rod and Kup inform Prime that Cybertron has dispappeared. Realizing Galvatron's intentions, Optimus orders the shuttle to head for Earth. On Cybertron, which has entered the Sol system, Galvatron reveals that he intends to activate the Plasma Energy Chamber, and let the energy spread out and cause the sun to nova, destroying Earth and Cybertron. On Nebulos, Spike and Cerebros locate the Hive's city, and begin using lond abandoned controls to begin modifying the city.

Landing on Cybertron, the Autobots discover that their comrades have had their power packs removed, and their lives will end if they do not get immediate Energon. The Nebulans think that they should just destroy the Key, lest the released energy reach Nebulos. However, Prime remains adamant, explaining that Vector Sigma has a plan. Unwilling to take the risk, the Nebulans simply abandon the Autobots and head to destroy the key, persued by the weaponless and headless Autobots. However, they are attacked by the Decepticons, who are preparing to leave. Just then, Spike and Cerebros arrive in the Hive's converted city, which transforms into Fortress Maximus, with Spike and Cerebros as it's components. Fort Max engages Scorponok, causing the Decepticons and the Hive to flee. Spike and the Nebulans deactivate the Plasma Energy Chamber, but not before it sends a wave of energy into the sun.

Working quickly, Spike and the Nebulans begin preparing Vector Sigma to absorb the excess solar energy. Pumping it straight into the supercomputer, it directs the energy into Cybertron's storgate capacitors, resulting in the complete revitalization of Cybertron. As Cerebros reactivates, he begs Spike to deactivate him, no longer wishing to endure the Great War. However, Spike tells him that Cybertron has been revitalized. Optimus declares that the Headmasters and Targetmasters are to become the guardians of Nebulos, and to destroy the Hive's machines. However, Scorponok survived the destruction, and it is obvious that Galvatron and Zarak do not see eye to eye. As the wouldbe tyrants bicker, Nebulos stands free, while Cybertron begins a second Golden Age under the rule of Optimus Prime and the Autobots.

'Til all are one.
* Notes

Animation and/or technical glitches
* In all 3 parts, Cybertron is incredibly small.

* Bumblebee shows up on the Goldenified Cybertron. Not only that, but he shows up right next to Goldbug.
* When Daniel transforms into Arcee's head at the end of the episode, he's still wearing his exosuit in the shot where he's inside her head.

Continuity errors
* When Galvatron thinks he's won, Ultra Magnus and the Protectobots attack... including First Aid, who is wielding a gun and firing away with the rest of them. But First Aid said in "The Ultimate Weapon" that he doesn't believe in fighting and literally won't raise a weapon to save his life.
* Shouldn't Cybertron's close proximity to Earth cause the planet to tear itself apart, as it did in "The Ultimate Doom"? Prime seems blissfully unconcerned about it.
Miscellaneous trivia
* This is pretty usual for Transformers, but Spike, a human is prefectly able to construct a super power, complex and sentient Transformer out of a city in what may be no more than mere hours.
* Ultra Magnus sure screws up royally when they give him something to do, huh? I mean first he loses the Matrix in Transformers: The Movie, now he lets Cybertron again fall to the Decepticons.
* Crosshairs seems to be some impersonation of Ronald Reagan. Why his voice sounds this way and what point they were trying to make was never revealed.
A crash-landing on Nebulos leads to a startling evolution in the Transformers' relationship with other races.
Detailed synopsis
On Nebulos, the modifications to the Autobots' heads are nearly complete. All that is left is to select their partners. Duros, the combat veteran, takes Hardhead; Arcana, the oldest and wisest among them, takes Brainstorm; Stylor takes Chromedome; Gort takes Highbrow; and Daniel is placed in Arcee. Upon activating, the Autobots feel different and decide to make a test run. The Headmaster process is thus proven as good an idea as Brainstorm believed, as with the rebels' guidance, the Autobots trash the Hive's machines. Satisfied with their trial run, the Autobots and rebels decide that it's time to get the Key to the Plasma Energy Chamber. But the Hive is watching and recognizes Gort and Arcana within the robots. Some of them decide it's time to bring the pain, but their leader decides to watch...

Meanwhile, on Cybertron, the battle between the Autobots and the Decepticons appears evenly matched. However, there is no sign of Hot Rod and Kup's team, or the Key. Optimus Prime decides that it's time to find some answers, and leaves the battle, with Ultra Magnus following.

Back on Nebulos, Scourge is torturing the captive Autobots for the key, to the amusement of Apeface. However, Cyclonus realizes that these Autobots don't have the Key, or the others would be all over them. Bad choice of words, as the Autobot Headmasters appear. They quickly overwhelm the Decepticons and free the captives, taking the Decepticon ship in the process. Some of the Hive members believe that the Decepticons should be destroyed as well, but their leader has other plans. Capturing the Decepticons, Lord Zarak offers them a deal: Submit to the Headmaster process and allow the Hive to be their partners, giving them the strength to destroy the Autobots. Scourge tells them to get bent, but Zarak reveals that the offer was only a formality. Grabbing the Decepticons, Cyclonus and Scourge agree to deal, but only with the heads of the animals. Apeface objects, but Cyclonus shows him who is boss. The "vehicle" Decepticons offer their weapons. Zarak agrees, and the modifications begin.

Back on Cybertron, Optimus and Magnus have reached the source of the Autobot leader's quest: the chamber of Vector Sigma. Using the Matrix as an interface, Prime activates the supercomputer to communicate with the spirit of Alpha Trion. Alpha explains that the Key is on Nebulos, and that Vector Sigma arranged for Galvatron to learn of it. All of this is being done to bring about a second Golden Age, which depends on the merging of a human with an Autobot. Before the discussion is ended, Alpha Trion tells Prime to preserve the key at all costs. Prime is confused, but it's kinda hard to argue with God's will, after all. Optimus departs for Nebulos, leaving Ultra Magnus in command of the Autobots until his return.

On Nebulos, the modifications are complete, and the Hive members bond with the Decepticons. Zarak, however, remains behind, having plans for the Hive's city. Meanwhile, the Autobots are dragging the ship to the rebel base, when Cerebros arrives, badly damaged and mumbling that he found a city. The Autobots are able to stabilize him, but the Decepticons show up. Brainstorm is pissed that the Decepticons have their own Headmasters. He's even more pissed when Mindwipe takes the Key from him. However, Brainstorm manages to run a scan on Nightstick before the Decepticons run off. Using the scans gives Hot Rod and Kup an idea. Sometime later, Optimus Prime lands and is introduced to the Headmasters and the Targetmasters. With this force, the Autobots prepare to retake the Key.

Elsewhere, the Decepticons are getting grumpy, having to wait for Zarak and with nothing to shoot. Their boredom is relieved when Prime leads the Autobots in an attack. Arcee and Daniel manage to take the Key and get it to Prime. The Autobots circle Prime and Arcee, vowing to let nothing get through. However, from beneath them, Zarak raises the Hive's city. Suddenly, it begins to transform into something else. The city lands on the ground, and from the dust rises...Scorponok!
* Right after the Decepticons steal the key from the Autobots, Spike says that "they can fly and you guys can't". * Right after the Decepticons steal the key from the Autobots, Spike says that "they can fly and you guys can't". Granted none of the Autobots can fly in robot mode, but Brainstorm can transform into a jet and Highbrow can transform into a helicopter, so obviously they can.

Transformers references
* Vector Sigma first appeared in The Key to Vector Sigma, Part 1.

Real-world references
* References

Miscellaneous trivia
* Optimus correctly guessed that the Matrix could activate Vector Sigma. Yet that idea doesn't strike him when Alpha Trion sacrifices his life to activate it in The Key to Vector Sigma, Part 2.
* Gort claims that "the Hives bodies are withered and useless" due to their extreme hibernation and dependency of technology as a means of survival. Yet Lord Zarak is freaking jacked and ripped like Franco Columbo when we finally see him. Intel must not be too goo on Nebulos.
Galvatron and the Pretender Monsters rise from the Atlantic Ocean into a destroyed New York, complete with a deactivated Rodimus Prime strung between the two towers of a fallen World Trade Center.

Elsewhere, a rebel group of surviving Autobots and humans, including Spike Witwicky, race to destroy a Decepticon fortification before the government launches nuclear weapons, which would only have their energy be siphoned and make Galvatron unstoppable. Cyclonus and Scourge are attacked by Getaway. The Autobots then continue their attack, losing on their side Crossblades, Guzzle, Getaway, and Chainclaw with Scourge and Runamuck being casualties of the Decepticon side.
Galvatron enters the fray and destroys Cyclonus for being weak. However Spike claims 'victory' when he scales the Decepticon fortress and erects an American flag, as a signal that America is still fighting. The nuclear launch is aborted at the final second as Galvatron takes aim at the iconic flag. Suddenly Hook, Line, and Sinker attack Galvatron and drag him back through time. The Autobots use this to boost their morale and press on their attack.
*This was the only issue in the Marvel US series that dealt with an alternate reality, a subject that would later become commonplace in Transformers lore.
*In the early 2000s, this issue was the object of an infamous eBay auction in which the seller claimed that certain panels of the comic could be seen as prophetic warnings about the 9/11 attacks.
*Galvatron says that Cyclonus is a "being forged in the fires of Unicron himself," which is in line with the animated movie, but in strictly US stories, he and Scourge were first seen on Cybertron serving under Scorponok. The Marvel UK stories explained this using time travel. This is the only time in the US stories that any reference is made to Cyclonus and Scourge being created by Unicron.
*This seems, in many ways, to be a dystopian future that follows the Transformers: The Movie continuity. Prowl, however, is shown as being very much alive. Being one of the casualties of the Great War, his presence seems to undermine this theory.
Synopsis
Buster Witwicky finds himself being chased by strange creatures through an alien landscape. He suddenly takes a laser blast to the chest...only to find no damage has been done at all. A moment later, Ratbat and the Decepticons re-materialize around him. It seems they had developed a new full-sensory holographic projection system called Realvision, and needed a guinea pig to test it. Starscream announces that they are now prepared to review the Autobot tapes, which captures Buster's attention. Of course, Ratbat sends him back to his cell instead of letting him observe.

Ratbat and Starscream activate the Realvision, and find themselves holographic present on Cybertron more than four million years ago, near the dawn of the Cybertronian Civil Wars. They witness a convoy of Autobots consisting of the Triggerbots and junior command officer, Optimus Prime. Prime, it seems, has come up with the idea of enlisting the aid of High Circuitmaster Boltax and his vast font of knowledge, in the hopes that it can be used to end the war before it grows out of control. As the Autobots negotiate their way through several traps on the road to Boltax, they remain unaware that Megatron and the Triggercons are dogging their every move.

Back in the real world, Buster uses the time-honored "airshaft trick" to break out of his cell in order to get a look at what's on the tapes.

In Realvision, Optimus and his soldiers approach Boltax's Temple of Knowledge. The circuitmaster's disciples allow Optimus alone to pass through and see Boltax. The circuitmaster does not offer Prime any direct aid, but instead instructs him to seek what he's looking for inside the Underbase (as each Transformer mind carries a DATAbase, the Underbase is said to be a collection of knowledge that UNDERlies all dataBASEs).

Buster enters the Realvision scenario just as Optimus begins to bathe in the light of the Underbase, and Megatron blasts his way in through Boltax and the disciples. Confronted by Megatron, Optimus Prime informs his enemy that the knowledge and power of the Underbase is too much for any one being to possess. Being the thoughtful and open-minded mechanoid that he is, Megatron blows Prime away while shouting "Mine mine mine!" Badly injured, Optimus manages to manipulate the temple's controls and launch the Underbase on a neverending course through space, instead of letting Megatron claim it.

With the Realvision over, Ratbat and Megatron review what they've learned and recognize the power of the Underbase is not a myth, as it is generally thought in the present. What's more, Soundwave informs them that the course calculations within the cassettes tell that the Underbase will be passing through the Earth solar system within a week's time. Ratbat and Starscream both begin to scheme on how to capture the power of the Underbase for themselves (though Starscream does show some rare discipline and uses his inner monologue instead of broadcasting his treachery for everyone to hear).

As Buster prepares to sneak off and try to warn the Autobots, he runs head first into a wall and is discovered by the Decepticons...

Errors
*Not really an error, but Starscream and Buster both come across as really, really THICK considering how hard it is for them to grasp the Realvision concept. I bet they both shout "Don't go upstairs!!" during horror flicks, too.
*Assuming the "molten mercury mines" are literally molten mercury, it's worth noting that mercury is "molten" at room temperature, and boils well below the melting point of steel. Liquid mercury might cause a short circuit if it gets at live wires, but it's not much of a hazard to Transformers.
*Although this is common in Transformers Generation 1, Optimus Prime is given a Cybertronian truck mode, yet his robot form remains completely the same. In addition Backstreet, Dogfight and Overdrive all had earthen alt.modes while on Cybertron.

References
TBA

Items of note
*Just like their toy functions, for the Realvision experience Raindance provides the video and Grand Slam the audio.

*Transformers Universe profiles for Brainstorm, Chromedome, Crosshairs and Searchlight are found after the main story.
Synopsis
Sometime after the end of the last issue, the Autobots came to Klo, saw a Decepticon, and were conquered. As Octopunch leads a tracker team to hunt down the remaining survivors, Grimlock is trying to keep the last five Autobots alive. Unfortunately for him, Prowl is one of the survivors and spares no breath berating Grimlock for the situation. It seems the Dinobots were lead into an obvious trap upon the Autobots' arrival on Klo, and the resulting melee was a slaughter. Prowl's pontificating is cut short when Fangry leads the hunting party to double-back, and the Decepticons move in for the kill.

Back at the scene of the first battle, Bludgeon is about to administer another execution when he and his warriors are suddenly caught off guard by the arriving Neo-Knights. The Decepticons quickly learn that the humans were only the first wave, and onto the battlefield drops the second wave&mdash;Optimus Prime, alive and kicking. Despite Bludgeon's disbelieving cries, Prime is indeed back, and he introduces his new friend, the legendary Last Autobot. The child of Primus relates how he first encountered Hi-Q and the Neo-Knights on Cybertron, and reformatted the Nebulan into a Nucleon-enhanced Actionmaster version of Optimus Prime.

The Decepticons dogpile on Prime, but prove less than effective. What's more, the Last Autobot begins using his powers to reanimate all the fallen Autobots, increasing their forces by the minute. As Grimlock and his group of survivors charge over the hillside, the tide of battle quickly turns towards the Autobots, and Bludgeon's troops are put to retreat. As Bludgeon proclaims he will lead his troops into the voluntary exile that honor demands, he quietly tells Stranglehold to gather their forces, to live to fight another day.

As the Autobots wrap up, Optimus Prime informs his brethern that Cybertron survives, restored by the Last Autobot's power and the Matrix energy that awashed the planet in the final battle with Unicron. The Autobots prepare to help the Klozians rebuild, take the Neo-Knights home and, finally, return to their home planet for a new era of peace and enlightenment.

'Til all are one...or until they revive the series, which ever comes first.

Items of note
* Optimus Prime appears in his Actionmaster design here, but Nucleon is not explicitly mentioned as being a part of his transformation. That is only confirmed in Transformers UK Annual #7, Another Time and Place.
* If a (Fill in the Blank)master is killed with their partner, could the Last Autobot still resurrect them?
* Apparently Crankcase is perfectly fine surviving without a head.
* With typical Marvel humor, this issue is billed as #80 in a four-issue limited series.
* Game over, man &mdash; game over.

Revivals
This story is continued in several mutually-exclusive directions:
* The UK Annual story "Another Time and Place"
* The GI Joe issue "Unfoldings"
* The Fun Publications story "Crossing Over, Part 1"
Synopsis
The Ark has come crashing down to Earth, and unleashed a new horror on the planet. Spike Witwicky finds himself the only available "Autobot" to deal with the threat, despite his reluctance. After visiting the scene of the crash and finding the cooling corpses of Galvatron's human victims, though, Spike finds he has no other choice but to combine with Fortress Maximus once again.

On Cybertron, we find the planet completely devoid of Transformer life, as the Decepticons have left to plunder other worlds and the Autobots gone to stop them. HUMAN life, on the other hand, still exists on the world, in the form of Hi-Q and the Neo-Knights. It seems the Nebulan's apparently crazed ravings finally got to the Knights, and convinced them to break out of their life pod and stay behind on Cybertron when the Autobots blasted off. With the planet breaking apart around them, however, they are beginning to suspect they're going to die on a planet not their own. Just when they're ready to give in to depression, though, Dynamo's planetary power taps into Cybertron's essence, and begins to lead them to the Last Autobot, who will prove to be the planet's salvation.

Meanwhile, the Autobots are pursuing the Decepticons' through space, following the signal beacons Grimlock left on their ships, and collectively wondering just how much damage the 'Cons could have done. Well, the answer is: A LOT. On the planet Klo, Bludgeon's forces have destroyed and conquered an entire civilization and its populace within a matter of two days. The conquest came and went with ease (only one casualty, Sparkstalker, who was injured by Cindersaur's fire), but Bludgeon is restless. Sure, destruction is good for the soul, but what they need is a challenge. As it so happens, Krok has detected Grimlock's homing beacons, and the Decepticons begin to prepare...for visitors.

Back on Earth, Spike finally places his control helmet on, and undergoes the binary-bonding to join with Cerebros and Fortress Maximus. Once he does, however, Fort Max completely suppresses Spike's mind to assume complete control over their combined form, as he simply does not trust the reluctant human to give it his all. As he catches up with Galvatron, the crazed Decepticon is trying to organize his thoughts, the crash having jumbled his mind and memories. One shot in the back from Fortress Maximus, though, and he goes completely 'round the bend. A raging berzerker, Galvatron attacks Max with a manic fury, even going so far as to tear out his opponent's circuitry with his teeth. Fortress Maximus is unable to defeat the Decepticon on his own, and so he makes peace with Spike, and the two of them truly join minds, and manage to successfully fight back and defeat Galvatron, sending him to the bottom of a frozen lake.

On Cybertron, the Neo-Knights have indeed found the Last Autobot, and prepare to awaken him from his slumber...

Items of note
*Sparkstalker's luck runs out, as his pyromaniac partner Cindersaur apparently incinerates him off-panel.
*Galvatron's memory flashbacks show he and Megatron beating Shockwave to death, up until the latter two are consumed by the Nucleon explosion and crash.
*A Transformers Universe profile for Fortress Maximus is found after the main story.
*Ironically, this would be the second death by ice Galvatron would experience at the hands of a Headmaster. In the Japanese series the Headmasters imprison him in an icey grave -- it sounds cool, but in fact the episode is just lame and confusing.
Synopsis
With Unicron looming over the planet Cybertron, the assembled Transformers flee in a blind panic. The dark god rips into the planet's surface, sampling its metal (and Brainstorm) and declaring it "succulent".

Primus -- still possessing the form of Emirate Xaaron -- urges Prime and Scorponok to calm their warriors and unite them in battle against the Chaos-Bringer, but even the two leaders are overwhelmed by the sheer immensity of their foe. Primus himself initiates an attack on Unicron -- but the dark god sees through what is essentially a ruse, and destroys Xaaron.

Galvatron blasts Unicron at full power; while it does virtually no damage, it does what Galvatron had hoped -- inspires the Transformers to stand and fight. Soon a planet-wide battle is raging; many Transformers are killed in the fighting, most notably Scorponok, who makes a final stand to live up to his legacy as a Decepticon warrior. The Neo-Knights also attempt to engage, but their powers are no match for Unicron, and Circuit Breaker remains catatonic, despite G.B. Blackrock's attempts to revive her.

Reinforcements arrive in the form of the Ark, which is filled with Autobots reactivated by the Nucleon retrieved by Grimlock. Grimlock has the ship sideswipe Unicron, damaging it and forcing them to abandon it in flight.

As Prime struggles to keep his Powermaster bond from coming apart, the tainted Creation Matrix suddenly arrives at Cybertron, with the possessed Thunderwing at its core. The Matrix confronts its old foe Unicron. But with its virtuous nature stripped away, the Matrix no longer has any advantage over Unicron, who unleashes a power burst that tears Thunderwing limb from limb and devastates the surface of Cybertron. As the blast passes, Prime spots the Matrix.

Tiring of the battle, Unicron reverts to his planet mode and prepares to devour Cybertron entirely. But as he begins, he is blasted by the revived Circuit Breaker, who pours every bit of her power at him in an insane rage. The distraction gives Prime enough time to reach the Matrix. His mind free from doubt, he reclaims it, purges it of darkness, and plunges it -- and himself -- into Unicron's maw. Overloaded with "terrible, wonderful life", Unicron explodes while the survivors on Cybertron's surface look on in awe.

Some while after the battle, Battletrap and Runabout are walking somewhere on Cybertron. Runabout goes to investigate some movement in the shadows. He is promptly snatched underground by a clawed hand and, as observed by a hidden Hi-Q, devoured.

Errors
*There are, of course, the errors of scale typically associated with the supposedly planet-sized Unicron.
*Among hundreds, thousands, maybe millions of Transformers... Circuit Breaker's the only person on the planet who can manipulate electricity?

Items of note
*Those apparently killed in this issue include Brainstorm, Xaaron, Cloudburst, Finback, Hardhead, Bomb-Burst, Joyride, Waverider, Scorponok, Thunderwing and Runabout.

*It's "apparently" because Joyride shows up alive and well in Generation 2. Quake, who was with Joyride and Waverider when they were blasted, is not shown getting hit -- and is fine just a couple of issues later.

* The next issue's opening page would reveal several more deceased Transformers: Apeface, Sureshot, Hosehead, and Runamuck (who nevertheless appeared in Generation 2 long enough to die again.) Prime's gruesome fate would be revealed as well, as he was still within Unicron during the explosion.

* Most of the surviving Transformers, including Soundwave, Prowl, Wheeljack, Blaster, Bumblebee and Jazz show up in the Action Masters line. While most never transform after this issue, Prowl clearly retains his ability to do so.

*References to other Transformers continuities/issues: The grand battle with Unicron concludes a storyline that began way back in Issue #60. Grimlock's reinforcements were fueled with Nucleon in the previous issue.
