:''Ratbat is a [[Decepticon]] from the [[Generation 1]] [[continuity family]].''

[[Image:ratbat.jpg|320px|thumb|right|Ah, the children of the night. What wonderful spreadsheets they make!]]

Cold-blooded and obsessed with efficiency, '''Ratbat's''' primary concern is looking out for himself. He treats his responsibilities, whether as a fuel auditor or as leader of Decepticons, as a business. In his book, everything comes down to profit and loss.

In his role as fuel scout, Ratbat carries sensors that allow him to detect and evaluate the quality of fuels of various types, from primitive hydrocarbons to [[energon]]. He can process any number of these different fuels to power himself.

Although obsessed with efficiency, like any good CEO, Ratbat allows himself a small indulgence: He enjoys sinking his fangs into the fuel tanks of Terran automobiles, the more expensive the better. He enjoys nothing more than savoring high-test gasoline siphoned from a hapless yuppie's Mercedes or BMW.

Ratbat is also the best Decepticon leader ever. True, that's what [[Megatron (G1)|every]] [[Starscream (G1)|other]] [[Shockwave (G1)|leader]] says, but he's got the victories to back it up.
Like the other cassette tape Transformers that turned into animals, Ratbat was not capable of speech and was likened more to a pet than an equal member of the [[Decepticon]] forces. However, in the Japanese series, he and the other cassettes possessed the power of speech, though their roles seemed no different. Ratbat first appeared in ''[[Scramble City]]'' in Japan and ''[[The Transformers: The Movie]]'' in the US.
[[Image:Ratbatfortmax.jpg|right|thumb|150px|Ratbat breaks through the Cassetticon glass ceiling.]]
Ratbat was one of the many Decepticons left on [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]], where he rose to the critical post of fuel auditor. With a drive towards extreme efficiency, he would rarely countenance unnecessary risks. After the fall of [[Straxus|Lord Straxus]], Ratbat emerged as the most powerful Decepticon in [[Polyhex]].

Ratbat grew increasingly dissatisfied with the inefficient use of fuel by the Decepticons based on Earth under the command of [[Shockwave (G1)|Shockwave]] and developed schemes to improve the planet's output. He dispatched hypnotizing machines with the hope of taking over the minds of many humans and using them to deliver fuel at minimum cost to the Decepticons, but this plan was disrupted by the intervention of the Autobots' ally [[Buster Witwicky]].

Ratbat allied with the Earthbound Decepticons but remained dissatisfied with the leadership of Shockwave. When the Earthbound Autobots briefly left the planet in [[Ark]], Ratbat was at the forefront of a new Decepticon reign of terror and kidnapped Buster Witwicky, taking him to the Decepticons' island base.

[[Image:Ratbatcratercritters.jpg|left|thumb|175px|"That... that's your fist, Astrotrain."]]
When the Autobot [[Headmaster]]s and [[Targetmaster]]s besieged the base, the Decepticons were forced to flee by deploying its rocket facility. In the process of departure, Shockwave was shot down in space and seen heading towards Earth, apparently dying, and Ratbat declared it would be inefficient to rescue him and so, instead seized command of the Decepticons for himself.

Of all the leaders of the Decepticons on Earth few came closer to outright victory than Ratbat. He followed the Autobots under [[Fortress Maximus (G1)|Fortress Maximus]] when they set out to unite with those under [[Grimlock (G1)|Grimlock]] and launched an all-out attack that resulted in huge casualties and the Autobots being briefly stranded on the Moon.

Later, Ratbat promoted the newly recovered [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream]] to the position of second-in-command and set out to learn the truth about the legendary [[Underbase]], which could seemingly make a Transformer supremely powerful. Ratbat was determined to attain its power for itself but this ambition was shared by Starscream. The latter lured the separate Decepticon faction led by [[Scorponok (G1)|Scorponok]] to a meeting with Ratbat's forces, which soon resulted in conflict between the two, allowing Starscream to seek the Underbase for himself. Both Decepticon factions allied with the Autobots in fighting against Starscream, suffering huge casualties in the process. However both Ratbat and Scorponok independently suspected that the Autobot leader [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]] had plans to seize the power of the Underbase for himself, and they set out to stop them. Seconds later, Ratbat was dead, shot in the back by Scorponok.
===Blackthorne Comics continuity===
[[Image:Ratbat_blackthorne.png|thumb|Ratbat watches over his loyal pet Galvatron]]

Ratbat secretly plotted to rule the Decepticons by posing as the mentally unstable [[Galvatron (G1)|Galvatron's]] witless pet and sole confidant.

[[Cyclonus (G1)|Cyclonus]] worried about Galvatron's unhealthy attachment to Ratbat. When [[Searchlight (G1)|Searchlight]] foiled Ratbat's search for mysterious [[energon]]-producing aliens by causing Galvatron to step on him accidentally using [[Scorponok (G1)|Scorponok]], Galvatron stopped fighting to rush to Ratbat's side, distraught over his actions.

:''('''Note''': Blackthorne Ratbat appeared to have the ability to change size from his parrot-like perch on Galvatron's shoulder (at right) to a [[:image:Ratbat_blackthorne2.png|giant bat]] large enough for a Throttlebot to ride on.) This fits in with his abilities as described in his expanded Marvel comics profile.''

:''('''Another Note''': Blackthorne's Ratbat was absolutely adorable. He is love.)''
===Dreamwave comics continuity===
[[Image:ratbatwarwithin.jpg|left|thumb|If Ratbat turned into a jet, why did they call him Ratbat?]]

Millions of years ago, before the Transformers crash-landed on Earth, Ratbat was the leader of a sub-faction of Decepticons called the [[Ultracons]] during the time when [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]] had disappeared. During the Dark Ages, Ratbat made several efforts to secure the [[Tagan Heights]], which held forty percent of Cybertron's industrial capability. However, his efforts were constantly thwarted by [[Springer]] and the [[Wreckers]]. Eventually, he became so frustrated that he openly violated the [[Crisis Intervention Accords]] and managed to sway the [[Constructicon]]s over to the Ultracons, unleashing [[Devastator]] on the Heights. However, the [[Protectobot (G1)|Protectobot]]s arrived and formed [[Defensor]]. Their duel resulted in the destruction of a good deal of the Tagan Heights, and Ratbat was forced to retreat. {{storylink|The War Within: The Dark Ages}} Megatron's return saw the Ultracons reintegrated into the Decepticons. At this point in time, Ratbat possessed his original Cybertronian form, able to transform from robot mode to jet. However, at a later date, after the Great Shutdown, when Shockwave established control of the planet, many Transformers, including Ratbat, had their bodies reformatted into Earth-themed modes, leading to Ratbat's bat/tape body. It was noted that he was not pleased with its unimposing nature compared to his original structure.

When next we saw Ratbat, he had been freed by Starscream from imprisonment and was given to Soundwave as a servant/gift, implying a past connection for which Soundwave would want recompense. It is entirely possible that Shockwave may have viewed Ratbat as a threat to his control of the planet and deliberately gave him a weak body and imprisoned him to keep him out of the way.

[[Image:Senator ratbat.jpg|thumb|right|200px|Vote Ratbat. A name you can trust.]]

Millions of years ago, before the war, Ratbat was a member of the [[Senate]] and possessed a fairly impressive humanoid form with wing-like capes and a bat head-like helmet. His professed role was "the application of wisdom through judgment," whatever that means, but, in practicality, he simply monitored news feeds and manipulated events (including stoking conflicts) to create the most profit for himself. Interested by [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron's]] early [[gladiatorial combat|gladiatorial exploits]], he sent his servant [[Soundwave (G1)|Soundwave]] to offer Megatron a wide variety of advanced weaponry. {{storylink|Megatron Origin, part 2}}

When Megatron's forces bloomed from underground fightclub to planet-destabilizing army, Ratbat realized that he'd made a mistake and his manipulations had gone too far. {{storylink|Megatron Origin, part 3}}
{{spoiler}}
[[Image:Ratbatdevastation.jpg|left|thumb|200px|Always on playlist: "Batdance"]]
After Megatron decisively won his first battle against [[Sentinel Prime]] and the Decepticons were established, Ratbat was betrayed by Soundwave. His [[Spark]] removed, Soundwave transferred it into a cassette body, which is assumed to have his familiar robot-bat alternate mode. {{storylink|Megatron Origin, part 4}}

Millions of years later, in the present day, Ratbat had come WAY down in the world and had been serving as a scout for the Decepticons. Now on Earth, he appears to change into some sort of consumer electronic device of the portable CD player variety. {{storylink|Devastation (issue 1)}}
: Ratbat transforms from a robot bat into a microcassette that can fit in the chest compartment of the [[Soundwave (G1)|Soundwave]] and [[Blaster]] molds. He was released in a two-pack with [[Frenzy (G1)|Frenzy]] in 1986 in the US and European markets. The toy had either gold or silver weapons and painted or sticker cassette detail. It is unknown if the color of the weapons corresponded the the detailing types.

: It is worth noting that Ratbat's tiny "ears" are among the more easily lost parts in the original [[Generation 1]] line.

: In Japan, Ratbat was released as an individual toy. He came with a clear-plastic cassette storage case, like all other Japanese releases of the cassettes. It is unknown what weapon/tape-detail variants were available in Japan.

==Trivia==
* While Ratbat in the original cartoon was a voiceless beast who was ordered around by Soundwave, in the Marvel Comics stories Ratbat was an independent character who could talk and held a prestigious rank, despite transforming into an audio cassette. Both of the "postmodern" continuities established by [[Dreamwave]] and [[IDW]] have tried to harmonize these two disparate roles by portraying Ratbat as a previously-important individual who was humbled and forced into a lowly form. Remember, kids, if you're not humanoid, you can't possibly have held a real rank. There must be ''some explanation''.

'''Alpha Trion''' is one of the oldest living Transformers, and with that age comes a nuanced understanding of his race and their place within the universe. In his youth, he went by the name '''A3''', and in this time, he helped lead the enslaved Cybertronians in their rebellion against their cruel masters, the [[Quintesson]]s. As a result, he was instrumental in first establishing [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]] as an independent planet.

In his older years, he has found a comfortable role in serving as advisor to other Transformers. He is an enigmatic old robot, though he is known to be the custodian of the [[Key to Vector Sigma]]. His sage-like manner paints him in almost a mystic tone, and possible connections between Alpha Trion, [[Vector Sigma]], and the history of Cybertron itself have boosted him into legendary status.

11 million years ago, a mechanoid named A3 was part of the robot rebellion against the [[Quintesson]]s on a [[Cybertron (planet) |factory world]], creating a device called the [[Coda Remote]] that would stop their [[Dark Guardian]]s. Due to a timerift created by Quintessons from the future, he was briefly pulled into the year 2006. Fortunately, his partner [[Beta]] managed to start the rebellion as scheduled, and A3 was soon returned by future [[Autobot]]s to fulfill his role in Cybertronian history. {{storylink|Forever Is a Long Time Coming}}

[[Image:Alphatrionagesbackwards.jpg|thumb|right|150px|He grew a beard, picked up the Matrix, shaved his beard, and then built Optimus, apparently.]]
Years later, he would be given the [[Matrix of Leadership]] by a [[U-Haul Robot|dying Autobot leader]], but Alpha Trion himself did not become [[Prime (rank)|Autobot leader]]. It would sit in his possession, unused, until the coming of the next Autobot leader. {{storylink|Five Faces of Darkness, Part 4}} In the meanwhile, Alpha Trion developed plans to rebuild Autobots to better combat the escalating [[Decepticon]] menace.

The next Autobot leader would actually come to ''him'' when a [[Aerialbot (G1)|group of time-travelers]] lugged a dying youth named Orion Pax to his repair center. Reluctant at first, Alpha Trion sensed a strong [[spark|spirit]] in Orion Pax, and decided to rebuild him entirely... into [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]]. When Prime asked if Alpha Trion could rebuild his fallen girlfriend Ariel as well, Alpha Trion agreed, and mused that [[Elita One (G1)|Elita One]] would be a good name for a female warrior. {{storylink|War Dawn}}

[[Image:AlphaTrion.jpg|left|thumb|150px|"''Yes, she is a girl.''"]]
When next seen - millions of years later - Alpha Trion was acting in an advisory role to the [[Female Autobots]]. When their secret base was discovered by [[Shockwave (G1)|Shockwave]], he suggested they move their headquarters. During the following skirmish between the Female Autobots and the Decepticons, he engaged in holographic communication with Elita One, where he (somewhat randomly) reminded her to not use her time-stopping power, for its use would likely drain her [[spark|lifeforce]]. When she immediately used this power to save her beloved Optimus Prime, the Autobot leader tracked Alpha Trion to his secret base. Alpha Trion repaired her to the best of his ability, but revealed to Optimus Prime that only Prime could save Elita by interfacing to her with his power filter. An astonished Optimus Prime stated that only his CREATOR could know that! {{storylink|The Search for Alpha Trion}}

''(Optimus Prime had apparently forgotten that Alpha Trion was his creator, although he seemed to know that Alpha Trion created Elita One. This, uncomfortably, makes Alpha Trion both of their fathers. Which would make them... )''

Alpha Trion was one of the first generation of Transformers created by Vector Sigma. Because of this, he was custodian of the supercomputer's circuit key--but his own circuitry also functioned as a key and would allow him to interface with Vector Sigma on his own. He did just that, sacrificing his own body in order to compel Vector Sigma to imbue life into the Aerialbots to counter Megatron's [[Stunticon|new troops]] {{storylink|The Key to Vector Sigma, Part 2}}.

After this, Alpha Trion appeared mostly as a spirit-guide, and had the peculiar honor of residing both within Vector Sigma ''and'' the Matrix of Leadership. He knew of the important role that both [[Nebulos]] and the [[Plasma Energy Chamber]] would come to play in Vector Sigma's grand plan to rejuvenate Cybertron, and so urged Optimus Prime to help the plan become reality {{storylink|The Rebirth, Part 2}}.
However, he did not make an appearance after this enigmatic reintroduction until [[Unicron]] posed a new threat to the balance of the multiverse. Alpha Trion, though technically still merged with with [[Primus]]/Vector Sigma/Whatever, was again in his original body (but now with a cape!). He/they pulled Cybertron's greatest hero, [[Optimus Primal]], back from the dead in order to rescue recently abducted Cybertronians from the center of the Chaos Bringer. {{storylink|Abduction}}

When Primal succeeded at this monumental task, {{storylink|Escape}} he confronted the [[Maximal Elders]] with one of his overblown speeches and was thrown in jail. Alpha Trion sent [[Snarl (BM)|Snarl]] to stage a small rescue of his own, and Primal was returned to the center of Cybertron. Here, Alpha Trion presented Primal with a window into the past, present, and future of the [[Allspark]], from which he could pluck any warrior, whether they be living or dead. Primal chose [[Depth Charge|Depthcharge]] and [[Rhinox (BW)|Rhinox]], the former of whom rejected Primal's calling. * '''Alpha Trion'''/'''Weirdwolf''' (souvenir add-on, BotCon 2007)
[[Image:Alphatrionbc07.jpg|right|thumb|200px|Old people can't drive, but they sure can fence.]]
: A bagged set of Alpha Trion and [[Weirdwolf]] was released at BotCon 2007 as a souvenir set add-on, limited to 1400 pieces. Alpha Trion was a [[retool]] of [[Cybertron (toyline)|''Cybertron'']] [[Vector Prime]], [[redeco]]ed in purple, white, and red, plus a new head.

: Alpha Trion transforms into a large cybertronic space cruiser with "solar panel" wings, his shape seemingly taking cues from both the ''[[Beast Wars]]'' starship ''[[Axalon (BW)|Axalon]]'' and the ''[[Star Wars]]'' Sith Infiltrator. His nosecone has a spring-loaded missile launcher at the tip. Inserting his [[Cyber Planet Key]] (painted gold to resemble the [[Key to Vector Sigma]]) does not activate any sounds, unlike Vector Prime's toy. He comes a partner named [[Beta Maxx]]. Alpha Trion has the more flexible translucent plastic parts ([[for safety reasons]]) of the [[Hasbro]] version of the mold.

: This toy may represent another version of Alpha Trion, not necessarily one from a [[Generation 1]] universe. It is not currently known.

===Unreleased===
[[Image:Alphalion.jpg|right|thumb|150px|You'll never own me.]]
A redeco of [[Snarl (BM)|''Beast Machines'' Snarl]] was planned as Alpha Trion for the [[OTFCC]] ''[[Universe (comic)|Wreckers]]'' storyline, but this concept never made it past the paint mock-up stage.

A redecoed [[Lio Convoy]] was also considered by [[3H]] for Alpha Trion around the same time, and it was sort of this version that briefly appeared in the comic book (see above). Though the toy mock-up used Snarl, 3H hoped they could finagle the use of the Lio Convoy mold. "Alpha Lion"'s wireframe appearance in [[Departure|''Wreckers'' #1]] used Lio Convoy's body, but Snarl's head, hopefully allowing 3H to fudge either way, should they come to a decision. They didn't!

==Merchandise==
* '''Alpha Trion''' (Super Collection Figure)

==Trivia==
* Interestingly, Alpha Trion is one of the very few Transformers to show signs of aging and hair growth.
* According to a note in Japan's Comic BomBom magazine, A3 was the first successful Cybertronian, A1 and A2 being failures. However, the presence of Cybertronians within the Matrix of Leadership older than Alpha Trion (as seen in [[The Return of Optimus Prime]]) makes the actual [[canon]]icity of this questionable.
* In ''[[Robots in Disguise]]'', an [[Alpha Trion (RID)|Alpha Trion]] is mentioned as an Autobot elder who created [[Optimus Prime (RID)|Optimus Prime]] and [[Ultra Magnus (RID)|Ultra Magnus]].
* The ''[[Unicron Trilogy]]'' has another nigh-identical [[Alpha Trion (Energon)|Alpha Trion]]. In fact, [[BotCon 2007]] Alpha Trion's bio suggests many continuities have him, and they are all pretty much the same.
As a warrior, '''Chase'''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s only outstanding asset is his staunch courage, but it's his attitude that earns him his many friends in the [[Autobot]] ranks. Yes, he's a motormouthed braggart and rather full of himself, but his storytelling skills are so fantastic that few mind when he monopolizes the conversation. Combine that ability with the enthusiastic, superficial friendliness and charisma of a talented politician and it's no wonder Chase is well liked, despite his flaws.

Many of Chase's missions are rather routine; radar is his specialty. He can detect objects as small as [[Toaster (G1)|toaster]] on the horizon, and see a tennis ball two miles away -- three, in fact, at the same time, in three different directions. He seldom needs to engage the enemy closely, but even the least dangerous 'milk run' comes alive with purpose and excitement when Chase is telling its story.

Impulsive and quick-thinking, Chase's 240 mph top speed often places him far ahead of his comrades on his scouting missions, and frequently he's the first to roar down a promising byway, heedless of possible ambush or hazards. Sometimes this leads him into trouble. Most often this trouble is mechanical; Chase's body, especially his drivetrain, just isn't engineered to keep up with his mind.

'''Quickstrike''' is a spastic, violent, triggerhappy cowboy who rarely thinks beyond the next "keister he's gonna kick." This simple-minded lust for beating people up seems to be his overriding personality trait. While this makes him easy to manipulate, which [[Megatron (BW)|Megatron]] finds extremely useful, the problem he has found is that Quickstrike is ''so'' easy to manipulate that Megatron's not the only one doing so! Both [[Tarantulas (BW)|Tarantulas]] and [[Blackarachnia (BW)|Blackarachnia]] have their hooks in him in some form or another, leading Megatron to perhaps try controlling the vicious little bugger through the good old-fashioned method: fear of death. Quickstrike may be stupidly brave most of the time, but only to a point.
Relishing his role as a Predacon from the moment he stepped out of his [[stasis pod]], Quickstrike fit right into [[Megatron (BW)|Megatron's]] band. Though he contains no traces of the Predacon Shell Program like [[Blackarachnia]], his rowdy nature and love of violence made the actual facts irrelevant. Quickstrike generally filled an infantry/trooper role and followed the orders he was given. However, he does have two notable instances when he was manipulated into betraying Megatron.

[[Tarantulas]] easily pushed Quickstrike's buttons and the two, along with [[Blackarachnia]], formed an "arachnid alliance" of their own. Their plans never came to fruition, because they were interrupted by the [[Maximal]]s, and Megatron never found out. {{storylink|Tangled Web}} After a device of Tarantulas' took over [[Optimus Primal]]'s body, Quickstrike was put in charge of the golem that controlled it. Once the Maximals were defeated, and the [[Ark]] open, Quickstrike (under orders from Tarantulas) used his control over Optimus to toss Megatron into the lava surrounding the Ark. The plan backfired when Megatron rose from the lava more powerful than ever,{{storylink|Master Blaster}} and Quickstrike was put on "trial" for betraying Megatron.
[[Image:Straxusaltmode.jpg|left|thumb|Yeah, but where does the axe go?]]''Following the assassination of the Decepticon warlord [[Trannis]] by the [[Autobot]] commando unit, the [[Wreckers]], Straxus assumed his position as Decepticon leader on Cybertron.''

When a Decepticon transmission beamed from the planet [[Earth]] circa the Earth year 1985 reached Cybertron, Straxus immediately arranged for the capture of the scientist [[Spanner]] so that a [[space bridge]] between the worlds could be constructed. Attempting to locate Spanner, the Autobot spy [[Scrounge]] learned of this plot, but was captured by [[Shrapnel (G1)|Shrapnel]] and brought before Straxus, who maliciously destroyed his unique recording-device arm before consigning him to death in the [[smelting pool]]s. In turn, [[Blaster]] came searching for Scrounge (against orders), was captured and brought before Straxus, and sentenced to the pools. There he discovered the dying Scrounge, was given the information he had acquired, and escaped with the aid of his Autobot friends who had come looking for him (against orders).

The space bridge was subsequently completed, but its earliest tests reduced Straxus to rage when a malfunction caused the death of [[Crosscut (Decepticon)|Crosscut]], and he sent another unfortunate to instant death in an attempt to figure out what had gone wrong. As the tests went on, an Autobot raiding party planted explosives within Darkmount, destroying it, and sending an enraged Straxus after their heads. With the bridge unattended, Blaster intended to destroy it, but was confronted by Straxus in a one-on-one duel. Crippling Blaster with his axe, Straxus was duped into accidentally severing the bridge's fuel line, destabilizing its teleporting arch, through which Blaster then kicked Straxus, destroying him.

[[Image:Straxushead.jpg|right|thumb|Still hoping for a guest spot on Futurama.]]

''However, while Straxus's body was reduced to ash, his head was salvaged and placed in a life-support pod that allowed him to continue on in his position as leader. Soon after, when [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]] arrived on Cybertron, Straxus immediately set in motion a scheme to restore himself to life, calmly following Megatron's directions to hunt down [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]], who had arrived on the planet with him. After Prime carried out several successful raids alongside the Wreckers, Megatron began to grow more and more unstable, and Straxus more and more impatient with his deranged houseguest. Despite the warnings of his technicians as to the "unpredictability" of the machinery involved, Straxus made the final step, activating a device that would exchange his and Megatron's minds, giving him a body once more. Megatron resisted the transfer, however, leaving the two minds within Megatron's body, fighting for dominance, each one in control at a different moment. In battle with Prime and [[Ultra Magnus (G1)|Ultra Magnus]], Megatron prepared to unleash his destructive anti-matter powers, but in order to stop him, [[Ratbat]] activated the space bridge, teleporting the three Transformers back to [[Earth]].''

''Before this could occur, having failed to oust Megatron's mind, Straxus activated his contingency plan, "[[Project Re-Birth]]," and his consciousness fled into a body he had specially prepared - a duplicate of Megatron created from a "hapless trooper," complete with a copy of his brain patterns, beneath which Straxus's personality lay dormant. Upon hearing of the true Megatron's seeming death aboard the space bridge a short time later, the project technicians activated the clone, sending it to the sewers beneath [[London]] where it came into conflict with a small group of Autobots, [[G.I. Joe|Action Force]] and [[Centurion]]. Straxus's mind had yet to take over the clone at this point, and it genuinely believed itself to be the true Megatron, but it was soon dealt with when an oil tank explosion sent it and Centurion tumbling into the Thames river.''

''Some time later, seeking a weapon to use against the deranged future Decepticon [[Galvatron (G1)|Galvatron]], [[Shockwave (G1)|Shockwave]] recovered the Megatron clone, also believing it to be the genuine article, only to find that "Megatron"'s mind had retreated into itself. Shockwave subjected the clone to the [[psycho probe]], intending to force "Megatron" to face his fears - but instead, Straxus emerged, intending to fight Megatron's fears for him and finally take control of the body. Megatron fought back, however, ripping the mental image of Straxus to pieces and finally taking over their shared mind.''

[[Image:MegatronStraxusDeath1.jpg |right|300px|thumb|No, no! Aim ''away'' from the face!]]

''This Megatron proceeded to battle Galvatron, and then sided with him to battle Autobots of the present and future in the "[[Time Wars]]". Faced with destruction on all sides, the Megatron clone opted instead to return to Cybertron, where he dethroned the decadent ruling [[Triumvirate]] and took control of the Decepticons on the planet once more. Soon, however, he began to suffer from nightmarish visions of the lives lived by both the trooper whose body became his, and of Straxus, just as the true Megatron - having recovered his memories after a period of wandering amensia in the [[Dead End]] - attacked his base. The two Megatrons battled, with the true one revealed the clone's nature to him, and all at once, everything made sense to the clone. Along with this revelation, another immediately arose - Straxus's mental defeat was a sham, and he had been dwelling within the clone's mind all along, steadily growing in power as the clone weakened. Straxus made one final attempt to seize control of their mind, and the clone committed suicide, blowing his own head off with his [[fusion cannon]], rather than allow Straxus to win.''

''It is possible that in the original un-altered pre-Time Wars timeline, the Straxus-Megatron clone may have been the Megatron transformed into Galvatron, but the shifting nature of the timelines makes this open to debate at best.''

''('''Note:''' The true nature of the Megatron clone was not revealed until the story which depicted his death. This was because, for all of the clone's other stories, he was regarded by characters, readers and writer [[Simon Furman]] as actually being the ''real'' Megatron, having survived his supposed death in the US comics. The US comics, however, continued to treat Megatron as pushing up daisies, so when Simon Furman took over writing that title and penned Megatron's return, he needed an explanation that would reconcile Megatron's continual appearances in the UK title with his lack of activity in the US. Relegating the Megatron of the UK comics to a clone was that explanation, revealed in UK-exclusive strips which ran concurrently with the reprints of Megatron's US return.''

====''Generation 2''====

[[Jhiaxus]] refers to Straxus as one of the petty, small-minded dictators he left in charge of [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]] when he left to start the [[Cybertronian Empire]].
==Trivia==
*For some reason, Straxus' colors changed drastically between the two sole issues he was in for the US comic.
