In the distant past, the All Spark Cube created the Dynasty of Primes, a race of powerful, trans-dimensional beings as the first inhabitants of Cybertron. The Cube gave these beings mighty powers, as well as terraforming their world, but it was not limitless, and gradually became depleted. The first beings learned that the All Spark's power could be replenished by harvesting the energy of stars, but they were unable to locate new stars to suit their purposes, despite their amazing ability to travel between dimensions. Once again, the Cube came to the rescue, creating a race of workers, who had the ability to change their shape.

The "builder" workers were among the very first of these new beings, who would construct a harvester when a suitable sun had been found. Once built, the device would drain the energy of these stars, thus replenishing the All Spark. Defiance issue 4 The Primes ruled harvesters could not be used on a sun that replenished life, but one of them began to defy this rule and gathered together a few rogue "construction drones" and a Seeker to secretly harvest suns and ignoring the genocide they caused. The other Primes found out and followed them to Earth, and The Fallen Prime teleported his servants elsewhere, but the Seeker Jetfire turned on the builders and killed them. Tales of the Fallen issue 3

It is assumed that at some point during the civil war on Cybertron, the remaining builders sided with Megatron, the new protege of their only surviving ancient master, The Fallen. In Megatron's Decepticon army, they became known as the Constructicons.

During the war, in at least battle, Devastator was present. Later, Demolishor destroyed an Autobot colony guarded by Sideswipe, who swore revenge and tracked him to Buenos Aires, Argentina, on Earth. The Constructicon drew out Sideswipe but fled when NEST forces led by Optimus Prime and William Lennox arrived. Tales of the Fallen issue 2

The Veiled Threat
The Constructions Kickback, Trample, and Tread came to Earth hoping to be able to revive their leader Megatron. They were mining for uranium in the Australian outback in the hopes that if they collected enough energy, they could jump-start Megatron's spark.

NEST became aware of their presence when they picked up their intermittent energy signatures. They sent a strike team consisting of Optimus Prime, Ironhide, Salvage, William Lennox, and Kaminari Ishihara to take care of them. The three Constructicons put up a good fight but were killed. The Veiled Threat

NEST followed Demolishor to Shanghai, China, and he was executed by Optimus Prime.

After the All Spark shard was retrieved from NEST's secure bunker at Diego Garcia, Long Haul, Rampage, Mixmaster, Scalpel, Ravage and Scrapmetal secreted themselves aboard the Bayos freighter heading towards the North Atlantic. Once the ship passed over the Laurentian Abyss, the Decepticons jumped overboard and dived down to where Megatron's broken body lay. Scalpel ordered the death of "ze little one" to rebuild Megatron, a request that Long Haul and Mixmaster readily granted. Soon, Megatron was reborn!

Long Haul and Hightower waited in a quarry near the Egyptian pyramids for Mixmaster to arrive with a yellow Rampage, Scrapper, Scavenger, Overload and a couple others, and they combined into Devastator. Devastator battled Skids and Mudflap, before climbing up the Great Pyramid of Giza to excavate the solar harvester within. Devastator was blown up by an experimental railgun fired by the USS Kidd.

Elsewhere during Operation: Firestorm, Long Haul, Scrapper, Mixmaster and the red Rampage hunted for Sam Witwicky in an abandoned town. Rampage was ordered by Starscream to spring a trap by demanding Sam hand over the Matrix of Leadership in exchange for his captive parents Ron and Judy, but Bumblebee attacked and killed him. Jetfire killed Mixmaster, while the others died in a bombing raid by the United States Air Force.
Constructicons defined
Determining who is and who isn't a Constructicon is a little more problematic than it may first appear. The subgroup is not especially well defined. Is any Decepticon who chooses a construction vehicle alternate mode a Constructicon? Possibly. The only solid information we have is to see which Decepticons are explicitly called Constructicons.
*The Devastator components are called Constructicons in Revenge of the Fallen: The Movie Universe.
*The four Decepticons that accompanied Ravage and The Doctor to the bottom of the Laurentian Abyss are called Constructicons in the novel adaptation of the movie.
*Devastator is called a Constructicon in the toys.
*Demolishor is called a Constructicon in Sideways's toy bio.
So, are Mudflap, Kickback, Tread, and Trample actual Constructicons or just Decepticons who have taken on construction vehicle alternate modes? It is not entirely clear.
Notes
*In the Revenge of the Fallen novel adaptation, the four Constructicons that accompany Ravage to the Laurentian Abyss are not named, but described as bipedal, disqualifying Rampage. This is contradicted by the movie, as the Rampage that later battles Bumblebee is almost certainly one of the four.
*One abandoned Constructicon concept by artist Steve Jung was a "nurse" that would have transformed into a Volvo wheel loader. Whether he's formed from six, seven, or even eleven Constructicons, Devastator is a giant among giants. He is in fact so huge that his body simply cannot support itself when carrying his weight upright, forcing him to lumber on all fours.

Devastator is a tormented being, his very formation wracking his component Constructicons with pain and stressing them to the breaking point both physically and mentally. The imperfect fusion process produces a mind that's very much less than the sum of its parts; rage and pain are all he knows, pushing aside whatever intelligence he might possess. Devastator relies on almost pure instinct in battle.

Devastator is named after Cybertron's unwithstandable and terrifyingly destructive Devastator Winds, due to his intimidating strength. Devastator can also create powerful gravity wells by generating an artificial black hole with his Vortex Grinder, located in his mouth. Nearby objects are drawn into his gaping mouth to be crushed.
Upon arrival in Egypt, the Constructicons that made up Devastator combined and attacked Leo Spitz, Seymour Simmons, Skids, and Mudflap. It rampaged through the construction facility, sucking up anything not anchored down, such as sand, cars, and Mudflap. Despite the powerful vacuum, Mudflap held out for a while before being sucked further in. Seeking vengeance, Skids clambered up Devastator for revenge. However, Mudflap had survived, and he blasted a hole through the giant Decepticon's head to climb out before further attacking the combiner and slowing it down.
Devastator clambered out the construction pit and grappled his way to the peak of the pyramid, where he used his turbine breath to suck up the stones that hid the solar harvester inside. By this point, Simmons had made his way to the pyramid, and he radioed a nearby navy ship to fire its experimental rail gun, which had been developed based on studies of Megatron during his captivity at Hoover Dam. The gun's projectile hit Devastator, blasting off an arm and making him lose his balance, causing him to shatter into many pieces as his body tumbled down the pyramid. Revenge of the Fallen (film)
Because of this, he is a lot more complex than the Supreme class toy, with a more "layered" look than his movie counterpart had. **Japanese ID number: RD-16

:Devastator is formed from the combination of six transforming construction vehicle toys that do not have individual robot modes. Unlike prior cases of this format, Devastator's vehicles represent separate Transformers, and most of them have other non-combiner toys that do have robot modes.

:Despite the figure's complex appearance(from the front anyway), the limbs' transformations into combined mode are rather simple. Fortunately, this makes him a lot easier to muck with than some of the other larger-scale Revenge of the Fallen toys. This is good, because Devastator is ENORMOUS. His smallest limbs (his legs) are the size of Deluxe-class toys, and his largest components are bigger than Leader-class toys. While the legs can not be swapped (unless for some reason you want a backwards walking Devastator), the arms can be swapped around.

:The toy's electronics are all in the Mixmaster component. Pressing the button makes Devastator's mouth open and activates voice clips and engine sounds, as well as green lights in his mouth and eyes. Pressing the button for a few seconds activates his "Vortex grinder". However, the button trigger is so sensitive that he never shuts up. In Devastator mode, his mouth can be locked into the open position by clicking his lower jaw sections into the large tank treads that form his shoulders. His mouth is enormous, and it lights up all pretty and green. He can easily swallow any Legends-class toy and spit it out the other side by opening up the back of his head. Covering Devastator's head when separating him from the torso and turning him back into Mixmaster's vehicle mode activates the transformation noise, and after that somehow makes engine stalling noises without pulling the trigger.

:Sadly, Devastator has a hard time standing on all four of his limbs, and is most stable standing on his hind legs. This is mainly because the most weight is located in the head, and his fingers are not made to hold that weight. He will also look straight to the ground unless you lock his head in place with the lower jaw.

:The Japanese TakaraTomy release of this figure has extra paint applications on Devastator's face, for a better resemblance to the final CG model.
*Constructicon Devastator (2009)

: Mega Power Bots Devastator is a simple toy for younger children, featuring plenty of playing sounds and flashing lights. His limbs have limited swivel articulation and do not detach into separate vehicles. He has a distinctly more humanoid stature than normal.

: Unlike regular Power Bots, and unlike other portrayals of the character in general, Devastator features a transformation! It consists of putting his arms up and laying him flat on his stomach, which lets him roll around using the wheels on his limbs.

: Pressing down the Decepticon shield on his crotch (!) spins the vortex in his chest, lights up his eyes and makes him utter one of many Welker-recorded phrases, including "Prepare for extermination!", "Crush Autobots!" and "I am Devastator!" Pressing on the crane of his excavator arm makes a cannon blast sound effect, while pressing the cab of his loader arm turns the scoop into claws.
:Burger King Devastator consists of five parts — a head and body, and simplified versions of the vehicle modes for Long Haul, Scrapper, Rampage and Hightower, which connect to the torso on ball joints. The generic connectors mean that they can be attached in any configuration, however the intended layout is marked with letters from A to D.
* In the film, none of Devastator's components are shown as individual Transformers. This might vaguely justify why the components of his Supreme class toy lack individual robot modes.

* Devastator's final CGI head differed from that used for his promotional images, including more red panels and several pulleys and wires, four highly pronounced horns, and a trio of throat gears lit like a furnace, instead of a single, complex vortex machine that is lit green like his eyes.

* In the film, there are nine vehicles that form Devastator! A yellow bulldozer is seen unfolding and is then scooped up by Devastator's left arm, which has been formed by Hightower. Another yellow dump truck lines up next to Rampage and helps him form the leg. This means two things: It explains why Devastator's left arm has scoops on it while Hightower's vehicle mode has no such equipment, and also why none of the Devastator toys are movie-accurate.
** Hasbro's official line is that there are seven Constructicons that form Devastator.

* Devastator is made up of 52,632 geometric pieces and 11,716,127 polygons. The total length of all the pieces is 13.84 miles.

* Devastator is made up of 6467 total textures, taking up 32 gigabytes of computer space.

* When Devastator punches the pyramid, its hand is traveling at 390 miles per hour.

* Devastator's got brass balls. Exactly how is pretty questionable; even the crane Hightower would only have one wrecking ball as a counterweight. When Hasbro was asked if there ever will be a Devastator toy with wrecking balls, they replied straight out "no".

:* The Devastator Showdown track set does, however, feature one wrecking ball that chases cars down the track. Hmmm.

* According to Shawn Kelly, the ILM lead animator for Revenge of the Fallen, Devastator caused a computer to catch fire spontaneously and its insides to melt. One assumes he was exaggerating for the purposes of publicity, as it is improbable for modern computers to actually catch fire under operations for which they are designed, such as rendering an extremely complex model. The special features on the DVD do (indirectly) show one of the computers blowing, with lots of black smoke and the poor animator (and his keyboard) covered in soot. (This was all done as a prank, leading to said animator asking "What the hell, man?") Not quite melting, but still.

*Interestingly, despite the supreme class toy being formed from vehicles similar to his Generation 1 counterpart (dump truck, bulldozer, front end loader, crane, excavator, mixing truck), none of them form the same component in both versions.

*In Transformers Generations 2009, volume 3, a very early Devastator mock-up is pictured that places more emphasis on height than width (being rather creepily lanky) and includes among other things, a Sikorsky helicopter as a component. It was kitbashed together from various figures from other lines, including some from Spawn and Kamen Rider.

* Massive Black's concept art is totally different from the film version: a red mining truck forms the torso, an excavator and timber harvester form the arms, and the legs are formed by a military plow and bulldozer. The resulting robot is human in posture.

*Devastator has a tongue, which is cool and disturbing-looking at the same time.

*According to a catalog included with ROTF toys, the ONLY way for the Autobots to defeat Devastator is by combining Optimus Prime and Jetfire.

*Given that the film establishes multiple sets of Constructicons, it seems entirely possible that more than one "Devastator" could be formed.

*Devastator was in an early draft of Reign of Starscream, but was dropped at Hasbro's request.

Soundwave is possibly Planet X's most physically intimidating warrior, but his true talent and the real threat comes from his "mad skillz" at creating confusion. His audio-altering abilities let him change his voice to sound like virtually anyone, or focus devastating sonic attacks. He also seems to be able to create illusions, though of limited duration, to further confuse his targets. The abilities of his companion Laserbeak only increase Soundwave's ability to confound and crush.

Even his speech seems to be geared towards throwing people off-balance; though his tone is often a deadpan monotone (at least, when he's not impersonating someone else), his speech is that of a rave-club DJ, announcing loudly to "all the bots in the hizzouse" that he's here to "lay some science down on you all". Despite the appearance these mannerisms give off, he's actually a very serious-minded and focused robot, far more than his fellow Planet X agent Sideways. His mission is manipulating Autobot and Decepticon alike to get his revenge on the citizens of Gigantion, and serving the will of Unicron.
Fiction
Cartoon continuity
Cybertron comic
When his home planet, the world of technological marauders known only as Planet X, was destroyed in a war with Gigantion, Soundwave was one of a small handful of survivors who became fixated solely on revenge against the Giant Planet. Immediately after that catastrophic event, Planet X's surviving scholars pooled their knowledge in a search for some force which might bring the same fate to their hated enemies. Lore of an ancient, planet-devouring being brought them hope, and they split up across the universe in their search for it. Soundwave would end up succeeding in the millennia-long quest, tracing the Gigantion Mini-Cons' origins to his quarry: Unicron. Soundwave struck a deal with the Chaos Bringer: one million years of servitude in return for the assured destruction of Gigantion.

Unfortunately for Soundwave, Unicron was destroyed just as the end date of his servitude approached. The Sun But he did not let this minor detail impede his loyalty; while Optimus Prime and Megatron's forces were busy searching for the Cyber Planet Keys, Soundwave and Laserbeak stole the fallen Nemesis Prime's Dead Matrix from the Autobots on Cybertron and cast it into the Unicron Singularity, liberating the Chaos Bringer's essence. Unicron's lifeforce immediately sought out and entered the tiny planet Yst, which he perverted and destroyed from within, shaping it into his new body. Revelations Part 3 Unicron (now the size of an average Transformer) returned to Cybertronian orbit and rejoined Soundwave. The two of them participated briefly in a battle among some Mini-Cons and a few dimensional travelers before the transformation of Cybertron itself into Primus' robot mode caused them to flee. Revelations Part 6

Cybertron cartoon
Following Primus' transformation, the Autobots and Decepticons focused their efforts into locating the fourth and final Cyber Planet Key, which just so happened to be on Gigantion. With the Decepticons unable to voyage across time and space to the parallel dimension in which Gigantion was located, Soundwave seized upon another chance for revenge and opted to ally himself with the villains. Emerging before the Decepticons from a fiery portal in space, Soundwave performed a bit of dramatic posturing before revealing his name and informing them that he knew the way to the planet. Titans

Living up to his word, Soundwave led Megatron and his troops through another fiery portal, across the dimensions to the Giant Planet. Warp When the Decepticons clashed with Optimus Prime's Autobots not long afterwards, Soundwave shocked the amassed heroes with his talent for mimicry by flawlessly impersonating the Autobot leader's voice. Prime was flattered and merged with Wing Saber to battle Soundwave; the villain held his own in the fight, but when Megatron was thoroughly pwned by Giant Planet leader Metroplex, he joined the Decepticons in fleeing. Giant Megatron proceeded to tap the power of Gigantion's Cyber Planet Key, and transformed himself into Galvatron, at which point Soundwave decided to "drop out of this session," and flew off to carry out his own agenda. He observed Galvatron's subsequent battle with Optimus Prime from afar with great interest. Fury

During a later battle between Optimus Prime and Soundwave's fellow Planet X-er Sideways over the starship Atlantis, Soundwave suddenly came streaking into the middle of the battlefield to yank Sideways out of the path of a blast from Prime. The pair retreated to safety, as Soundwave reminded Sideways not to forget the true reason they were there. City The duplicitous duo began searching for Gigantion's Cyber Planet Key, but when they were caught in the act by the Cybertron Defense Team, Soundwave didn't have any reservations about revealing his and Sideways's true history to the Autobot trio, as he intended to destroy them. As Laserbeak shrouded the area with a smokescreen, Soundwave used his imitative abilities to distract and disorient the three Autobots, until Scattorshot blasted Laserbeak out of the air. After the smoke cleared, the trio unloaded their weapons on the two tricksters, collapsing a tower on top of them. Challenge

Following this defeat, Soundwave and Sideways dropped out of sight for a period of time, during which the Autobot successfully located Gigantion's Cyber Planet Key. Galvatron was able to steal all four keys and the Omega Lock from the heroes, but before he could make good his escape, Galvatron was confronted by his treacherous lieutenant, Starscream. As the two former allies engaged in battle over the keys, the Autobots prepared to intercede, only for Soundwave and Sideways to suddenly burst out of nowhere and stand in their path. The two Planet X-ers kept the Autobots occupied while Galvatron and Starscream's battle escalated until the two Decepticons were channelling so much raw energy that reality actually began to warp around them. Having failed to predict such a calamitous outcome, Soundwave was in favor of simply warping away to fight another day, but Sideways insisted on making one final play for the Cyber Planet Keys; while he pleaded for Soundwave to flee and save himself, Soundwave stuck by his "bro". The pair lunged for the Omega Lock, suspended between Galvatron and Starscream, just as their conflict reached a crescendo, resulting in a colossal explosion of energy. As the light from the blast dimmed, Starscream, Soundwave and Sideways had vanished, and although Vector Prime could not be certain, he believed that they had been blasted into yet another dimension. Showdown (episode)

Precisely what had happened to Soundwave and Sideways was never clearly explained, but they did, at least survive the experience. When Galvatron had a vision of Starscream, seemingly reaching out across the dimensions via the fire dimension to mock him one last time, Soundwave and Sideways were seen standing at his side, Unfinished Later, the pair were shown to have found another Planet X, presumably in the dimension they had been blasted to, and seemed to be pretty dang happy there, given the way they were boogieing. Beginning
: Soundwave transforms into a Cybertronic stealth bomber somewhat akin to a F-117A Nighthawk prototype, the Have Blue. He comes with three hexagonal prism "bombs"; one converts into his partner Laserbeak, the other two unfold into non-firing blaster weapons. Any one of these "bombs" can be stored in his robot-mode chest, which opens by plugging a Cyber Key into him. Inserting the key in vehicle mode allows whichever "bomb" is stored there to drop. The other two store in indents on the underside of his wings. In an homage to Generation 1 Soundwave, his lower chest has tape-player buttons. He comes with a silver-bordered Planet X style Cyber Key; the Hasbro version has the Key Code "vmj8" tampographed on the back.
Many Soundwave figures in the initial Galaxy Force run had a serious misassembly issue preventing the toy from correctly transforming into fighter mode. The large hinge bar that connects the upper torso to the waist is bolted crookedly on one side, making it impossible for the legs and the canopy to properly form the front of the fighter.

: This mold was later used to make Galaxy Force Soundblaster and the 2008 Universe Autobot Blaster.

: This incredibly-simplified version of the original Soundwave toy was made available in the third wave of "Legends of Cybertron" product. His jet-mode cockpit does not attach to his left arm, but rather just kind of hangs awkwardly off his left hip. The stock photo (at right), the picture on the toy's card, and the toy's instructions, show three different arrangements of Soundwave's hips and lower torso in vehicle mode. (They differ in whether the triangular pattern of stripes on his crotch points up or forward, and on whether the fronts of his thighs point up or out.) None of the arrangements work terribly well.

**Weight: 4.1 tons
**Speed: Oh oh! Guess what it is? It's Mach 4.1! Surprise!
Thundercracker is the master of fear. His victims can hear him coming from 200 miles away, which is the way he likes it—it's not worth the effort it takes to kill them unless they're nice and terrified first. He doesn't care much about galactic conquest or the All Spark, but as long as Megatron allows him to indulge himself, he's happy to serve.

A fellow Seeker and loyal to a fault, Thundercracker is Starscream's personal choice for Second in Command once he takes control. In fact, bar a lack of experience, he is in many ways comparable to Starscream in skill. However, the air commander is not simply going to hand the job over, and Thundercracker must prove himself worthy by seizing the opportunity with both servos.
Many years ago, Thundercracker was member of Cybertron's defense forces under the command of Protector Megatron. When a mysterious relic was uncovered, aliens from the Eshems Nebula attacked, leveling much of the city of Metrotitan. Thundercracker was among the forces deployed to defend their home. Defiance issue 1 Following this outrageous attack on their sovereignty, Megatron used this to declare a military dictatorship and led the flight-capable soldiers in a bloody counterattack on the aliens. During the battle, Thundercracker and his comrade Ramjet competed against each other in the numbers of confirmed kills. Defiance issue 2

After Megatron discovered that science leader Optimus had snooped around his quarters, he issued orders for the arrest of the scientist, but assigned Starscream and Thundercracker's team the task with assassinating those escorting Optimus. However, they underestimated the scientist's fighting prowess and paid for it when an entire city was dropped on top of their heads. They survived, and Megatron used Optimus' act of self-defense as a catalyst for declaring them traitors and forming a new faction: the Decepticons. Defiance issue 3 During the subsequent civil war, Thundercracker fought against Strongarm and was present for the launch of the Decepticon flagship Nemesis. Defiance issue 4

Late in the war, Optimus Prime ejected the All Spark into deep space, forcing both sides to quit the war on Cybertron to chase after it. While the other Decepticons went to Earth in search of the All Spark, he waited aboard Starscream's battlecruiser, hidden on Mars with only Hardtop for company. When Starscream returned with the seemingly lifeless Frenzy, Thundercracker was there to greet his barely functioning Commander and brought him aboard for repairs.

Afterwards, Starscream began to confide in his subordinate his plans for recreating Cybertron while Thundercracker questioned him on both his new alternate mode and the fate of the All Spark. Before they could finish their chat, Hardtop alerted them that the ship was under Autobot attack. The Reign of Starscream issue 2

Thundercracker sent in Swindle, Dreadwing, and Payload drones to soften up the Autobots, and then entered the fray himself, shooting down Air Raid and unleashing his sonic weaponry on the rest of the team. He then swiftly slew Camshaft and wounded Cliffjumper, but he took a little too much time savoring the latter's fear and soon found himself at the mercy of Cliffjumper and Arcee. The revitalized Starscream was forced to enter the fray to save his would-be second-in-command, and he killed or critically damaged the entire Autobot squad. After berating him for his failure, Starscream took Thundercracker back on board and took the Nemesis back to Cybertron. They landed in the Decepticon city of Trypticon, where they were greeted by Ramjet. Starscream ordered Thundercracker to undergo repairs. The Reign of Starscream issue 3

Thundercracker's status received a boost after Starscream's copy All Spark failed. While Dreadwing and Ramjet turned on the Seeker leader, Stockade and Thundercracker fought at his side. As Dreadwing made his escape, Starscream gave chase, and when Thundercracker told him he would take care of Dreadwing's drones, Starscream wished "Commander" Thundercracker luck.
Thundercracker was Shockwave's right-hand man and confidante, and came to Earth alongside him and the other Decepticons. After Shockwave received a communique from Frenzy informing him that the Autobots had found a lead to the location of the lost Decepticon leader Megatron, Thundercracker airlifted his boss into Qatar so they could relay the message to Blackout. Shockwave decided to follow up on the lead himself, and had Thundercracker take him to the Arctic, where they battled their way through a platoon of Autobots that had already arrived and searched the ice cavern that Megatron's body had been found in. Although Megatron had already been moved by Sector Seven, Shockwave discovered that Megatron had brought an army of drones to Earth with him which were currently lying dormant on Earth.

Thundercracker and Shockwave subsequently travelled south, keeping themselves hidden by making the trip submerged in a large body of water, heading for an unknown location. Thundercracker was fairly puzzled by the whole affair, as Shockwave was playing the mission objective close to his chest, but things soon became clear when he discovered that they had arrived at a rocket launch site. While Thundercracker created a distraction by attacking the facility, Shockwave slipped in and programmed the rocket with the signal code required to reactivate the drones. Once the rocket blasted off, the signal was beamed down across the world, bringing the drone army back on-line.

A platoon of drones proceeded to attack the Autobots who were on their way to Hoover Dam, forcing Ironhide and Ratchet to break off and take care of them. The fight carried the two Autobots to the Smash Derby arena, where Thundercracker attacked them. Unfortunately for the Decepticon, the two Autobots overpowered him, and forced him to reveal the origin of the drone army, providing them with the information they needed to take the drones down. Transformers The Game (PSP)
:This version of Thundercracker is a retooling of the Voyager class Starscream toy, with a new head. Cast mostly in light blue and grey plastic resembling Generation 1 Thundercracker's paint scheme, he transforms into a Lockheed-Martin F-22 Raptor fighter jet. As with Starscream, this vehicle mode is ridiculously inaccurate. Farcically so. Pushing the fighter along a smooth surface causes the barrels of his gigantic spring-loaded Gatling missile launchers to rotate and fire their projectiles, which can also be stored in the black flip-up braces on the launchers.

:During transformation, pushing up upon the canopy fuselage piece activates Thundercracker's Automorphing gimmick which pushes panels out of the torso, wings and stabilizers. Shellformer is a fandom term for a Transformer that transforms by "unpeeling" pieces of one form to reveal the other form inside. Literally, the majority of the alternate mode is a "shell" that closes completely (or close enough) around the robot parts, with the robot mode having very little genuine integration of the alternate-mode parts.

In some of the most extreme cases, such as the ones pictured on this page, one can remove almost the entirety of the alternate mode parts and still have a complete, fully-functional robot figure left over.

This term is most often used derisively. Also see kibble.

Shellformers should not be confused with the Pretenders.
