One of the signature weapons of Starscream and the Seekers, the null-ray is capable of stopping any electrical device with one shot, be it human or Transformer.

Except Megatron. All a blast from the null-ray does is make him angry. It doesn't work on the Dinobots either, but they were already pissed at Starscream and the jets.

Fiction
The Transformers cartoon
Shortly after arriving at the oil platform with his fellow Decepticons, Starscream was ordered to fire his null-ray at some equipment, causing the machinery to freeze and cease from working. More than Meets the Eye, Part 1 After causing a tidal wave at Sherman Dam, Megatron ordered Starscream to shoot three of the generators with blasts from the null-ray as part of their efforts to make Energon cubes. More than Meets the Eye, Part 2

After being discovered by Bumblebee, Starscream shot him with the null-ray, allowing the Decepticons to modify his memory circuits to lead the Autobots into a trap. Transport to Oblivion

Later, when Megatron had the power chip rectifiers of the Decepticons installed in him before his battle with Optimus Prime, Starscream lamented that he could no longer use the null-ray or his cluster bombs. A threat of termination from Megatron shut him up. Heavy Metal War

Starscream zapped Gears with the null ray so Megatron could extract the Autobot's special circuit. Changing Gears

Determined not to be replaced by the human-built Nightbird, Starscream used his null-ray to fritz her circuits. Naturally, Megatron wasn't too happy about the loss of his new female "companion" and immediately labeled Starscream a traitor. Again. Enter the Nightbird

When Starscream partnered up with the (more than usually) paranoid Red Alert, Starscream fired his null-ray at Red Alert, causing his unstable logic circuits to stabilize. Auto Berserk

Later, Starscream was shown firing the null-ray from his nose while in vehicle mode. Megatron's Master Plan, Part 1. Later still, he was shown firing it through his finger. Megatron's Master Plan, Part 2

Starscream last used his null-ray at his own coronation as leader of the Decepticons. During the coronation, the Constructicons played trumpets, but Starscream, eager to get on with the ceremony, used the null-ray to slice the instruments in half. The Transformers: The Movie

In 2005, Marissa Faireborn had a hand-held blaster which fired null-rays. Whether this was reverse engineered from a captured Seeker, developed with the help of the Autobots, or was acquired by some sort of convoluted plan of Starscream's to replace Megatron, is unknown. Five Faces of Darkness, Part 4
Armada cartoon
When Armada Starscream finally got his Mini-Con partner, Swindle, he gained a new attack called the "Null Laser Cannon". It didn't disable electrical stuff, but created a big explosion instead.Jungle

Energon
Starscream had two lasers on his wings (the wings swiveled to position the laser cannons). He called these Null Beam Cannons. Again, they acted like very powerful blasters.

Cybertron cartoon
Starscream had two swiveling, very powerful laser cannons at his waist. He had two more stationary cannons, one on each of his forward wingtips. He called these Null Cannons. Once more, they acted like very powerful blasters. When he supersized, he replaced his broken Cyber Key-activated sword with a massive wide-bore null cannon. Fallen (episode)

Animated cartoon
Starscream packed null-rays as his main weapon, but these also just worked like a very powerful blaster. Their destructive effect on Earth-made buildings was impressive, if not as intense as Armada Starscream's, and a sustained blast of around 12 seconds was enough to render all five Earth-bound Autobots unconscious—for a few seconds. Hmm. Then later a direct blast fully disabled Ultra Magnus for several minutes (well, to be fair, Magnus took a point-blank shot right in the kisser). Mission Accomplished

Revenge of the Fallen
"Oh but I might". Darkness rising, Part 4 (episode)

After losing his arm in a ground-bridge accident, Starscream waited on an operating table as Knock Out began suggesting upgrades to replace the lost limb. His highest recommendation for a new armament was the null ray. Shadowzone (episode)

When Bumblebee tried to take back his T-Cog, Starscream shot him with his Null ray. Huh, so that's what happened to his gun. Operation Bumblebee, Part 2 (episode)
Starscream's null-ray sliced mountains in half. It most likely did the same to Autobots, but Starscream was bashed offline by Optimus Prime before he could test that theory.
Scraplets is alleged to be the deadliest disease known to mechanical lifeforms in the entire galaxy. It is a complicated form of alien parasite, which lives solely to eat, reproduce, and eat some more.

Scraplets have evolved to resemble pink and blue nuts and bolts, washers and screws. However, when brought in contact with mechanical life, Scraplets instantly and painfully embed themselves into the skin of said creature and rapidly begin to self-replicate. The living metal around a Scraplet quickly corrodes, decaying and cracking away as the embedded Scraplet feasts. This process is painful and inevitably fatal for the infected robot. In a matter of hours, a single Scraplet can reproduce enough to completely infest an average-sized Cybertronian to the point of physical breakdown.

Scraplets are capable of transforming into vaguely humanoid robotic configurations, each capable of elementary speech and reasoning abilities. There are many different forms of humanoid Scraplet; the number of limbs, eyes, fangs and claws vary, though they are all quite tiny by Transformer standards. They use the locomotion afforded by this mode to spread out from a dead or dying host and infect mechanoids whom they might not otherwise be able to come in contact with.

A mass of Scraplets can also merge together into a combined humanoid form. In this form they have enormous strength and agility and a primitive group consciousness. However, this form also carries with it some limitations, as they present a larger target and become vulnerable to conventional assault.

It is said that there is a rare chemical of legend that can kill a Scraplet, but this is doubtful.

{{bigquote|They pick you apart from the inside out, going for the small, juicy bits first, fuse by fuse, circuit by circuit, until there's nothing left.
When Ratbat needed to transport the first prototype Wash and Roll to Earth, he hired a freighter pilot to fly the cargo there. Emerging from warp space in Earth's solar system, the pilot exited the craft to perform some necessary repairs. As he did, the ship passed through what seemed to be a cloud of space dust. The "dust" rapidly infected the pilot, who lost control of the ship as it crashed on Earth.

Not hearing back from the pilot, Ratbat sent the Decepticon Triple Changers to investigate. They found the stricken pilot near the crashed ship, but didn't get very far in interrogating him about his failure before they too were infected. When Blaster and Goldbug arrived, Blaster landed in the crater and was soon infected as well. The freighter pilot survived long enough to warn Goldbug about the infection, just before his head fell off. The Scraplets charged toward the tasty-looking Goldbug, who was defended by his human friend Charlie Fong. But as the two headed off to try and find a cure, Goldbug hesitated, reluctant to abandon Blaster, and he too was infected. Hours later, the infection was so wide-spread that Goldbug couldn't continue driving. Crater Critters

Made aware of the infection by Astrotrain, Ratbat decided to take decisive action to contain it. Rather than risk more Decepticon lives, he captured five Autobots and sent them to Earth. His mission for them: use vats of acid spray to destroy all infected Transformers on the planet, Autobot and Decepticon alike!

Charlie Fong pushed Goldbug through the desert to a service station, where the appalled attendants offered him a glass of water. Charlie was shocked when he spilled some on Goldbug to see the Scraplets die and fall off. Holy crap, pinball wizard and a miracle cure: water!!

Before Charlie could grab a hose to "wash his car", the attendants restrained him, thinking he was delusional. Two of the Throttlebots arrived just then, regretfully attempting to destroy Goldbug; only Charlie's interference saved him, as he demonstrated the miracle cure. Satisfied, Rollbar and Wide Load stood by while Charlie hosed down Goldbug, curing him.

Goldbug and company returned to the crash site with two tankers of water to save Blaster, but couldn't do so without also curing the three Decepticons. Before they could take action, thousands of the Scraplets combined into a muscular mauve giant, bashing the weaponless Throttlebots around. Goldbug cured the Decepticons, who used their firepower to bring down the giant, which Blaster then destroyed with one of the acid vats. The remaining water was used to remove the Scraplets which infected the Throttlebots during the battle, and the outbreak on Earth was at an end. The Cure!
The scraplets were frozen in a large container in the Arctic. The Autobots, wishing to research the container, brought it into their base, only to have the scraplets chew through their prison and escape. The scraplets, who are very susceptible to cold, had been thawed by being brought into the base. Raf, while investigating the base, discovered a scraplet scuttling around, and thought it was an Autobot pet. He decided to play catch with the creature and threw a bolt, which the scraplet promptly devoured. Raf carried the scraplet to the inner area of the base where Bumblebee, Bulkhead, and Ratchet were waiting. They saw the creature and told him the damage it could do to them. Raf thought it to be harmless, and that Ratchet was kidding, until the scraplet leapt out of his arms and chewed large scratches into Bumblebee's leg. Ratchet knew more scraplets awaited and sent Bulkhead, Miko, Raf, and Bumblebee to hunt down more while he tried to repair the scraplets' damage with Jack watching his back. The scraplets ambushed Bulkhead and Bumblebee and a swarm of them flew down from the ceiling and began chewing on Ratchet. Jack discovered that by using a fire extinguisher, one could freeze the scraplets.

The creatures were fended off by the three children, who were not considered food by the scraplets. The scraplets had done considerable damage to many systems, and it was up to the children to fix them. They fixed the Energon supply cable that fed the GroundBridge, bringing it back online. The Autobots formulated a plan to rid of the scraplets, and bring back Optimus and Arcee, who were exploring the Arctic. Activating the now operational GroundBridge, Bulkhead decided to act as bait to draw the scraplets through. Once through, the scraplets darted at Optimus and Arcee, and became frozen before they could reach them. Scrapheap (episode)
The damage they'd done continued to plague the ground bridge's systems. Con Job

There were still plenty of scraplets on the dead Cybertron. A sizable cluster of them managed to find their way into the passageway beneath Kaon that led to Vector Sigma. When Jack passed through to Vector Sigma, the scraplets followed him. Once the megacomputer started charging the Key, the scraplets started feasting on the empowered access board. Despite Jack's attempts to remove them, the scraplets proved too many. Fortunately, an Insecticon had also followed Jack down the passageway, but stopped short when it saw the infestation of scraplets. Jack quickly used this to his advantage by dislodging a live scraplet and throwing it at the giant insect. Sensing a living Cybertronian, the scraplets quickly went to town on the Insecticon. In a matter of seconds, the scraplets chewed through the Decepticon sentry's limbs, causing it to fall over into the deep pit below. The scraplets followed the doomed Insecticon as it plummeted. Orion Pax, Part 3
Notes
* While using round dialogue bubbles for humans and square dialogue bubbles for robots, letterer Janice Chiang used various polygons for Scraplet-speak.
* The Scraplet stories are two of Budiansky's favourite stories to write, though he'd got them confused with Mecannibals.
* The Scraplets in Prime are somewhat different from their earlier portrayals; they lack any alternate mode or combining abilities, they all look the same, and their weakness has changed from water to low temperatures. Additionally, they can fly, and make dentist drill sounds when hungry. They also lack the spontaneous reproduction of the earlier version of Scraplets, although Ratchet's claim that "there's never just one" implies that they are fast breeders.
* According to Bulkhead, Scraplets prefer to feed by breaching their victims' armor so they can get at the juicier circuitry inside, after which they proceed to devour the unlucky Cybertronian piece by piece until not even their optics are left.
*Judging by the size and behavior of the Scraplet, it can be best noted that the Scraplet appears to by based off of a Piranha, due to its ferocity and pack hunting behavior.
Airachnid and Starscream struggle to control an Insecticon warrior.

Synopsis
Airachnid muses to Megatron about Soundwave's inevitable decryption of the Iacon files, and requests for her tracking abilities to be enlisted in the search for the resulting coordinates. Megatron dismisses her, and Soundwave replays the audio of her suggestion to leave Megatron earlier. He contacts Dreadwing, who replies with an oath of loyalty. The leader orders him to perform a task he normally performs himself, but now leaves to his first officer. The Seeker is confused, as Airachnid holds that position, but his mission becomes clear—he is to dispose of the treacherous spider.

Breakdown, Dreadwing, and Airachnid follow the trail of an unconfirmed energon deposit. Airachnid is amused at the heavy backup, and takes the opportunity to grill Breakdown on his lack of skill, and lack of eye. Dreadwing attempts to calm him, but another insult puts him into a frenzy. He jumps at the spider and fires at her. Dreadwing joins the fray, but is pinned to a tree by Airachnid's webbing. Breakdown catches a web to the face, and as he falls, he lets off a blast which collapses a tree on Airachnid. She finds one of her legs damaged, and retreats. Breakdown gives chase, and finds her collapsed in a ravine. As he raises his hammer to finish her, webs—not from Airachnid—immobilize it in the air. Airachnid raises a leg to slice him through.

A contingent of MECH soldiers come upon Breakdown's remains.

In a cave, Starscream pities his lot in life as he jumps for a meager scrap of energon. He is interrupted by a nearby rumbling that surprises him—it is an Insecticon, unearthing a large chunk of energon. He orders the brute to hand it over, but it attacks him, forcing him to hide. He witnesses the Insecticon bowing to another surprise—Airachnid. He makes himself known, and she makes her rogue status known, giving Starscream the idea to propose an alliance to overthrow Megatron with the help of her oversized herald. She proposes an alternative—she overthrows Megatron, and orders the Insecticon to destroy Starscream.

At base, Ratchet recieves another high frequency message on a restricted band, again from Starscream, who promises valuable intel for medical aid. His intel proves none-too-relevant until he mentions the Insecticon, and provides Airachnid's location. Back at base, Arcee berates Ratchet and Bulkhead for letting him go again, but Optimus is confident in sparing helpless lifeforms, regardless of personal vendettas.

:William Fowler is a human from the Prime portion of the Aligned continuity family.

Special Agent William "Bill" Fowler is the type of guy that Theodore Galloway wishes he could be. He's the tough-talking, robot-dissing designated liaison between the United States government and the Autobots, who's got the guts to face down the Decepticons himself. And he doesn't need any military escort! He can pilot his own damn helicopter! And his own damn jet plane! Without a damn flight suit!

Fowler is leery about trusting the Autobots to handle the Decepticons by themselves and believes that Earth can handle its own mess, but for now, while he chews them out and slags them off, he's willing to let them have a chance.

Pretty big bearings... for a human.

Fiction
Prime cartoon
Agent Fowler visited Autobot Outpost Omega One to chew the Autobots off over mass traffic accidents caused by several odd vehicles, and then demanded to know if this meant the Decepticons were back. When Optimus Prime confirmed this, Fowler stated it was time to "wake up" the Pentagon; he was notably unimpressed by Optimus's claim that only the Autobots could stop the Decepticons, clearly not believing it, but to avoid mass human casualties he agreed to give them a shot at sorting it out.

Bulkhead angrily told Fowler that the Autobots knew how to use appropriate force, but when the agent was gone he noted with respect that Fowler had bearings. Prime noted that Fowler's attitude was due to being afraid for his planet. Darkness Rising, Part 2

Another explosion had Fowler returning to the Autobot base, but he found only Bulkhead there. When Miko's guitar gave away the presence of her and her two classmates, he announced he was going to take them into federal custody, but Bulkhead prevented him from phoning his superiors. He stormed out and took off in his helicopter, making a report by radio. Unfortunately, the transmission was intercepted by the Decepticons, who captured him and strung him up by chains. Fowler proved difficult to interrogate, so Starscream got out an Energon prod to soften him up. Darkness Rising, Part 3

Fowler was on the verge of breaking and telling Starscream where the Autobot base was, when weapons fire became audible outside the brig. Sensing rescue was near, he became awkward again, provoking Starscream into shocking him into unconsciousness. When he awoke, he was in a dazed, rambling state. The Autobots finally reached his location, only to become locked in a standoff with Starscream, until a random outburst from Fowler caused a distraction, and the Autobots chased Starscream off. Fowler rode back to base in Bulkhead, though his dazed state persisted and he became fixated on pie. Once they reached the base, he was given rudimentary medical attention. Darkness Rising, Part 4

When the Autobots discovered that the Decepticons were using a radio telescope array in Texas, Optimus suggested getting Fowler to put the installation on high alert, but Fowler was still too out of it to comply. He had recovered enough to cheer the Autobots on as they destroyed Megatron's space bridge, and later thanked them for saving him from the Decepticons, and for saving the world, before he left the base. Darkness Rising, Part 5

Responding to reports of strange transmissions, Fowler warned other pilots away from the area as he sped there in a new top-secret jet. He came upon the scene of a battle between Optimus, Bumblebee and the Decepticon Skyquake, the latter of whom seized the opportunity to scan Fowler's jet. Fowler retaliated by firing on Skyquake, but the Decepticon launched a number of heat-seeking missiles that Fowler was forced to use evasive maneuvers to avoid. He later came to Bumblebee's aid, picking up the small Autobot who had just disabled Skyquake in mid-air and was plunging toward the ground as a result. Masters & Students

While transporting the Dynamic Nuclear Generation System in his jet, Fowler was shot down by what he assumed was a Decepticon. He angrily contacted the Autobots for help in shifting the D.N.G.S. and it was loaded into Optimus's trailer to get transported across country. When the convoy was attacked, it turned out not to be the Decepticons after all, but a human organization known as MECH. A MECH goon climbed onto Optimus's back to try and unhitch the trailer, and Fowler climbed out to grab the guy, but was unable to get any answers before the man was knocked out of his hand by a passing tree branch. Fowler was then contacted by the MECH operative Silas who explained they were taking the D.N.G.S. The Autobots passed the device safely off to a train, but a short time later were confronted by Vehicons. Optimus apologetically informed Fowler they'd have to break cover to fight, before placing Fowler on a rock. After Silas informed Fowler by radio that he'd worked out the D.N.G.S. was on the train, Fowler tried to warn Optimus, who was promptly clocked by a tree trunk. Fowler had to hang out on the rock for the rest of the mission, but was able to observe Optimus saving the train from where he was. Convoy (episode)

Fowler was away when the Autobots attempted to obtain his help in retrieving an Energon Harvester from a museum. His answer phone claimed he was an intensive training retreat, though Bulkhead was unconvinced and believed him to be lounging at a poolside cabana. They eventually managed to get through to him, and he helped them slip a replica of the Harvester into the museum to replace the original, and also to retrieve Miko, who'd been detained by the museum's security guard. Deus ex Machina

After the Decepticons broke into the Kauai Naval Observatory in Hawaii, Fowler contacted the Autobots to ask if they'd encountered any Decepticons wearing hula skirts. He was able to tell them that the lens stolen by the Decepticons had a tracking device on it, leading the Autobots to find it in the Arctic. Out of His Head

Fowler was at the Autobot base when they learned that Breakdown had gone missing in the middle of a fight with Bulkhead. He relayed intel that MECH had been spotted on the Kamchatka Peninsula where the fight had taken place. Optimus immediate took a team to mount a rescue, leaving Fowler at base with Bulkhead and Miko. Bulkhead suggested they watch a film, which Fowler was heartily in favor of, but he subsequently fell asleep while they were watching Dinolizard vs. Five-Headed Ape. Operation: Breakdown

Jack called in Fowler to fend off Airachnid and MECH, and he easily forced Airachnid into retreat with some troops. However, Airachnid was able to scan Fowler's assault chopper, much to Fowler's annoyance that his vehicle had been used for a Decepticon's alternate mode again. When Airachnid and MECH fled, he wasn't surprised to hear MECH had vanished without a trace, and began briefing June Darby on the situation with the Cybertronians, only for Jack to convince him to drop it for tonight. Crisscross

Fowler reported on a number of high-tech component thefts by the Decepticons. When he informed the Autobots that the Decepticons were attacking a military laboratory, Optimus told him to have the base evacuated to avoid any loss of human life. One Shall Fall

The first thing he did when a number of earthquakes struck simultaneously around the world was call the Autobots and let them know. By the time he arrived at their base, Ratchet had traced the tremors to the Earth's core, and they quickly realized that Unicron, whom Optimus explained was a dark entity from Cybertron's past, was at the center of the planet. Fowler suggested sticking explosives down the hole Unicron originally crawled into, but Optimus believed Earth had formed around Unicron's slumbering form. Fowler stuck around as the Autobots investigated the tremors. One Shall Rise, Part 1

The humans listened as the Autobots battled giant stone Unicrons, and as Megatron arrived to offer to help the Autobots defeat Unicron. Fowler wondered what would stop Megatron calling in an air strike once he knew where the Autobot base was, but Prime was confident that GroundBridging Megatron in would conceal their position sufficiently. The humans hid when Megatron turned up, but when Raf ran out to confront their foe, Fowler found himself having to drag away Miko after she started yelling at the Decepticon leader. The humans all watched the Autobots and Megatron step through the GroundBridge into Earth's core. One Shall Rise, Part 2

Frustrated at not being able to do anything, Fowler almost left the base to go get assistance from the Pentagon, but was distracted by Ratchet's tale of pre-Earth Optimus. When it turned out that Prime's team were all OK, Fowler was compelled to hug a startled June Darby. He and June were waiting at the GroundBridge with the kids, as the Autobots returned to report that Optimus had developed amnesia. One Shall Rise, Part 3

Fowler wondered if they couldn't just locate Prime the same way the US government located Fowler, via a subcutaneous microchip, but was told Optimus's signal hadn't reappeared. Some time later, when the Decepticons attacked a military base, Fowler alerted the Autobots, but to his frustration they were unable to prevent human injuries or the theft of a power source. Later, it became apparent that in order to bring back Optimus, Jack would have to travel to Cybertron via the Decepticon space bridge. Orion Pax, Part 1

Fowler hooked Jack up with NASA to get him a space suit to wear on Cybertron. Not long after Jack and Arcee were sent, Breakdown called Space Bridge Control, demanding a status report. Because two of the Autobots there had voices that the Decepticon would recognize, and the third was mute, the task fell to Agent Fowler to imitate the Vehicon stationed there and say that everything was okay, which went surprisingly well, even when he accidentally asked Breakdown how he was doing! Orion Pax, Part 2 He and the other humans monitored Jack's progress on Cybertron until the Autobots returned with their restored leader. Orion Pax, Part 3

Operation Bumblebee, Part 2
After obtaining the possible coordinates of the MECH base, Fowler attempted to alert Prime, only to find Bumblebee was the only one available to take his call. He later yelled at Ratchet as well. Operation Bumblebee, Part 2
After a bunch of alarms went off indicating that a nuclear warhead had just become live, Fowler scrambled with a team of scientists and government agents. They quickly arrived at the Autobot base, where Optimus asked how the missile had come to be left in the base. Fowler admitted it looked like a military failsafe in case the Autobots ever turned on the humans, and Prime firmly asked him to take the bomb with him when he left. Transformers Comic issue 4.1

Fowler was having a bad day—he was suffering from trapped wind, his car was under a snowdrift, his wife received a chicken instead of a turkey from the butcher, and the Decepticons had taken control of a nuclear ship near Antarctica. Naturally, he took his problems to the Autobots. They could only help with the last one. Transformers Comic issue 4.3
* The Autobots refer to him as their liaison with "the outside world", though he appears to just represent the United States.
* Fowler must have one awesome rank if he can decide on his own whether or not the Pentagon is to go on full alert!
* Apparently, Fowler's grandmother made pretty good cookies.
* Fowler likes pie.
* Fowler is man enough to fly without a jumpsuit, but gets queasy inside Optimus during a high-speed pursuit?
* Agent Fowler spouts his own brand of colorful idioms infused with references to Americana when he is surprised or in a tight spot, including:
**"Well I'll be a bald eagle!" in "Masters & Students".
**"Sure thing buddy, right after you eat my star-spangled shorts." in "Darkness Rising, Part 3".
**"What in Uncle Sam's beard?" in "Darkness Rising, Part 3".
**"I don't care if Abraham Lincoln is back!" in "Loose Cannons".
* When asked about Fowler's mouth and eyebrows "not animating right", panelists at 2011 responded that he's "usually hungover".
* His vehicles have been scanned by the Decepticons three times now.
* If there's a celebration going on and he's there, he will be the most animated one out of everyone.
* He apparently has a tracking device in his buttocks that allows the government to track him, usually to see when he stops to eat donuts.
A legendary Autobot returns to Earth to look for a new Decepticon, but Optimus finds that something is not right with the rogue Bot.

Synopsis
Agent Fowler calls the Autobots, furious about another fight with possible collateral damage. Though all of them are present at base, Ratchet posits that the fighters may be infighting Decepticons. However, a video feed shows otherwise, for the two are an unidentified Skyquake-like Decepticon—and Wheeljack ! Though Bulkhead is thoroughly excited, Fowler demands that the situation be handled pronto.

Outside of Omaha, Wheeljack battles it out with the 'Con. Agent Fowler hovers over the scene and demands stoppage, but is fired upon by Wheeljack. The 'Bot is hit in the shoulder, and falls back as Agent Fowler supplies suppressive fire. A GroundBridge opens up, and the Autobots step out. They aid Wheeljack, and fire upon the Decepticon, who takes cover. Agent Fowler flies overhead, and the Decepticon seizes the opportunity to scan his vehicle. He runs toward a gas station, and Wheeljack aims his blasters at him. Despite Optimus and Bulkhead's cautioning, he fires, and the station explodes as the Decepticon transforms and flies off. Though Wheeljack believes that the 'Con—revealed as Dreadwing—rigged it to explode, he is informed otherwise. Though the Wrecker is eager to give pursuit, Optimus tells him that, while on Earth, it would be wise to respect his authority.

Back at base, Ratchet repairs Wheeljack. He apologizes for the collateral damage, but says that his pursuit of Dreadwing warranted it. He starts into the story of his pursuit. Originally, he was looking for Autobot refugees, but when the one he had found— the former Wrecker Seaspray—is blown to bits by one of Dreadwing's bombs, he made it his mission to track the rogue 'Con down. After several solar systems worth of pursuit, Wheeljack caught up with him on Earth. Optimus recounts his own knowledge of Dreadwing—he was a captain of a Seeker armada, and Skyquake's twin. He also infers that Dreadwing's mission is to pay allegiance to Megatron. Wheeljack is eager to get out and kick Dreadwing's tailpipe, but Optimus reels him in, saying that any action taken against the Decepticons must be carefully planned on this foreign planet. This infuriates the Wrecker, who can't fathom the idea of doing nothing. Agent Fowler walks in and admonishes Wheeljack for nearly blowing their cover, and demands that Prime keep a closer watch on his troops. Wheeljack doesn't take well to being called part of the team, and walks off, followed by Bulkhead. Optimus explains Wheeljack's disregard for authority by his inclusion in the Wreckers, a unit that operated outside of normal command.

Somewhere mountainous, Dreadwing holds a laser beacon that continues into the sky. The Nemesis arrives, and he boards. Megatron welcomes his loyalty, but Dreadwing reveals that he was brought to Earth with another purpose as well. He says that he and his twin, Skyquake, shared a split spark, and that he could feel across the galaxy when his brother was released from stasis—and when his spark was extinguished. This information is confirmed by Megatron, and Dreadwing vows to make every Autobot on Earth pay. Megatron avows that they will—eventually, under his terms. He advises the Seeker to obey him, for his best interests.

As Wheeljack works on his ship, Bulkhead attempts to change his mind about the planet. Wheeljack lists the comrades they'd lost in battle, but Bulkhead takes is as all the more reason that they must stick together. Wheeljack doubts Optimus's integrity, but Bulkhead stands firmly by him. Inside the Jackhammer, a challenge comes through over the commlink from Dreadwing. Wheeljack straps in to meet the 'Con, and Bulkhead gets in as well. They jet off to meet their challenger.

Dreadwing faces off against Wheeljack, both determined to finish their business. They exchange fire, and Dreadwing runs and jumps into a crevice. The Wrecker gives pursuit, and Dreadwing avails him of the "surprises" he's left—proximity bombs, scattered all throughout the crevice. He dodges them with ease, and pins the 'Con against a dead end. Bulkhead reveals himself atop the crevice, preventing Dreadwing from flying off. However, he has one last trick up his sleeve—one last bomb, placed meters from Bulkhead's position. It explodes, burying the two under the exploded cliff face as he flies off.

At base, Ratchet finds Bulkhead's transmission over a thousand miles away. At Optimus's inquiry, he says that no response has been made.

In the crevice, Optimus helps Wheeljack out of a pile of boulders. Though Optimus acknowledges that he cannot force Wheeljack to obey his orders, he reprimands the rebel for endangering the safety of one of his troops. Ratchet informs Optimus over comm that Bulkhead's signal has moved.

Wheeljack and Optimus fly to Bulkhead's location, a shipping depot. They find him in an unfortunate predicament, strapped to a crate with a bomb wired into his chest. Wheeljack gets to work defusing the bomb, but it proves a challenging prospect, as it is laced with all sorts of failsafes.

Dreadwing looks on, with Optimus in his sights. He receives a transmission from Megatron, and tells his leader that he is pursuing his destiny. Megatron responds by saying that Optimus is not so easily beaten.

Bulkhead tries to stop Wheeljack from continuing his attempts to defuse the bomb. He notices that Optimus is gone, and Wheeljack again deprecates Optimus for fleeing when the situation gets hot.

Megatron allows Dreadwing to continue his plan, out of respect for his deceased brother. He disconnects, and muses to Soundwave that he does not expect him to come back. Dreadwing notices that Optimus is not there anymore, and Optimus chooses to announce himself. He appeals to the Decepticon's sense of honor, saying that his master does not respect chivalry and honor as he and his brother did. Dreadwing refuses the offer of defection, and fires upon Prime, who escapes into the maze of containers.

Bulkhead pleads with Wheeljack to leave, but it falls on deaf ears. He says that the only bot who knows how to defuse the bomb is Dreadwing. Wheeljack remarks on the encroaching blaster fire, when he is delivered an uppercut by Bulkhead. The big bot tears out of his restraints, and runs away from his friend.

Dreadwing continues to spar with Optimus, but loses him from his sights.

Bulkhead runs toward the water, apologizing in advance to the sea life, when Wheeljack jumps out and tries to stop him. He is no match for the huge 'Bot, and is pushed along with him. He appeals to Bulkhead, agreeing with the fact that only Dreadwing can defuse the bomb—and that Optimus knows it as well.

The Seeker slowly searches the dock. Suddenly, he hears a scream, and above him, Optimus comes crashing down on top of him with a shipping crane. Pinned, Dreadwing is forced to listen again to Optimus's proposal to defuse the bomb, which is now standing right beside him. Dreadwing is unfazed, saying that he would rather destroy himself and all three Autobots to avenge his brother. Optimus calls his bluff, and says that they too will die in fire with their brother. He grudgingly accepts, and defuses the bomb. However, not about to leave empty handed, Dreadwing sets off the many bombs he had placed throughout the port, and flies off. Wheeljack wonders who will clean that up.

On the Nemesis, Megatron gloats about Dreadwing's defeat, but seems mildly surprised that the Seeker still lives. Dreadwing, in the wake of his defeat, pledges his total loyalty to Megatron.

At the base, now addressing Optimus as "Commander," Wheeljack apologizes for his misjudgment about him earlier. All the Autobots, sans Ratchet, try to convince Wheeljack to stay. He says he'll explore the planet, to see if it's right for him. However, Bulkhead tells him that he has to have an Earth alternate mode.

Outside, Wheeljack transforms, and drives off into the distance.
Notes
Animation and technical errors
* When the Autobots first return to base, Ratchet is reparing a wound to Wheeljack's left shoulder-plate. When Wheeljack confronts Dreadwing in the forest, it is no longer there.

Continuity notes
* This episode features the first on-screen use of the term Terrorcon.
* Soundwave shows scenes of Optimus and Bumblebee's fight with Skyquake in Masters and Students.
* Arcee references Masters and Students and Shadowzone.

Transformers references
* Wheeljack namedrops former Wreckers Impactor, Roadbuster, Rotorstorm, and Pyro. The first two are traditional Wreckers, and the latter two were introduced as Wreckers in Last Stand of the Wreckers. Seaspray being a Wrecker is a new addition.
* Wheeljack also namedrops Sandokan.
* Both Dreadwing and Skyquake are refered to as Seekers.
*Optimus explains how the Wreckers are a separate team faction from the Autobots.

Real-world references
Trivia
*Agent Fowler needs to stop flying that jet around Decepticons who look like they turn into jets.
*Wheeljack finally takes an Earth-based vehicle mode. Seems like he's on Earth to stay.
*Dreadwing's proximity bombs have plates resembling his wings. Perhaps they're his trademark symbol for each location he visits--though it doesn't last when it explodes.

Unicron Trilogy cartoon continuity
Armada cartoon
When Armada Starscream finally got his Mini-Con partner, Swindle, he gained a new attack called the "Null Laser Cannon". It didn't disable electrical stuff, but created a big explosion instead.Jungle

Energon
Starscream had two laser on his wings (the wings swiveled to position the laser cannons). He called these Null Beam Cannons. Again, they acted like very powerful blasters.

Cybertron cartoon
Starscream had two swiveling, very powerful laser cannons at his waist. He had two more that are stationary, one on each of his forward wingtips.

Starscream designed his null-ray himself. It was a weapon feared for its ability to deactivate electrical systems.
Dark of the Moon
Starscream possessed two Mechtech Null-ray cannons which could combine to create a large double-bladed weapon. Either cannon could also be used as a hand-held blade. Starscream (Movie)/toys#Deluxe_Class_toys_2

Operation: Bumblebee Part 2 (episode)

Games
Transformers (PS2)
Starscream's null-ray sliced mountains in half. It most likely did the same to Autobots, but Starscream was bashed offline by Optimus Prime before he could test that theory.

During the Great War, Null Rays were a common weapon used by Scout and Sniper class Transformers, and Starscream's preferred weapon. They were sniper rifles fitted with 10x zoom scopes, and the cloaked Scout's best friend. Transformers: War for Cybertron

Huh, so that's the arm he picked.
Games
Transformers (PS2)
Starscream's null-ray sliced mountains in half. It most likely did the same to Autobots, but Starscream was bashed offline by Optimus Prime before he could test that theory.
He retracts his hand, and an emitter for the energy axe projects the blade. Despite only using it when he and Megatron are fighting on a particular dam, it was a very memorable ability, so much so that recent rereleases and redesigns of Prime's toy have actually included the axe as an accessory, either replacing or covering a hand.
The fusion cannon is Megatron's ultimate weapon. It is attached to his right arm and is devastatingly powerful, as demonstrated by its sudden removal of Ironhide's head. (It's at least as powerful as Fortress Maximus's hands in comparison.) It strikes fear into the sparks of both the Autobots and the Decepticons, though this description and its actual destructive capacity seems strangely uneven.

Generation 1
Marvel Comics continuity
noteukonly

While on a hunt for Optimus Prime, the Predacons betrayed Megatron. Divebomb stole Megatron's fusion cannon and the Predacons left Megatron to fight Optimus Prime with only his small backup gun. Megatron opened a space bridge which pulled both him and Prime to Cybertron where Megatron got a new fusion cannon. The Harder They Die! It is unknown what Divebomb did with the original.

Generation 2
As part of an agreement with Cobra, Megatron's body was rebuilt to resemble an Earth-design tank with his fusion cannon replaced by a rail gun.

The Transformers cartoon
Megatron could remove his cannon from his main body. One time, Brawn stole it from him and used it against him. Megatron was not amused. Fire on the Mountain

Fusion cannons are also oddly useful when you just wanna kick your lieutenant for shooting you in the back but don't want to have to walk over to him... yeah, we don't question that. More than Meets the Eye, Part 3 Starscream's Brigade

An attempted coup from Devastator is another matter. The shots continuously bounced off his armor and Megatron had to resort to a 5-way fistfight with Starscream, Astrotrain, and Blitzwing as an alternative. Triple Takeover

G.I. Joe vs. the Transformers
Having defeated Megatron, Optimus Prime ripped the fusion cannon of his arm and used it to destroy the SPS Satellite. It supposedly was the only thing the G.I. Joe, Cobra, Autobot and Decepticon troops gathered at Cobra Island had that could reach something in space. Thereafter, the fusion cannon was brought to Area 52. G.I. Joe vs. the Transformers issue 6

IDW comics continuity
The fusion cannon was a gift from Starscream. Megatron Origin issue 4 It's ironic how Megatron decided to pay him back a few hundred thousand years later by blowing a huge hole in his torso. Infiltration issue 6

Beast Wars cartoon
Megatron loved his fusion cannon so much, he had another fusion cannon installed on the Nemesis. The blast radius from this weapon is massive. Most kickass, though this one requires a power up time to fire again which is less kickass. Nemesis Part 2

Although not Megatron's, according to Beast Wars, the Ark's cannon was also a generic fusion cannon. The Agenda (Part III)

Beast Machines
Megatron's personal chariot, Mechatron, comes equipped with a fusion cannon to nullify any accursed Maximal that comes across.

Live-action continuity
Megatron's fusion cannon is one of the most powerful weapons known to Transformers. Drawing energy from an unknown interdimensional source, the fusion cannon fires gamma-irradiated plasma at a target.

Megatron's cannon is presumably telescopic, as he keeps it stored retracted in his left arm when not in use. Its powerful blast is enough to knock Optimus Prime back three city blocks and requires both arms to steady the aim. This is most likely because Megatron is always concerned about collateral damage, or making sure he hits. Transformers (2007)

After his resurrection, Megatron still possessed his fusion cannon but in a more compact form from which he could now access with his Death-lock pincer that also featured an attached sword. A point blank shot can still send Optimus Prime flying back several yards. Later, after impaling Optimus with the sword, Megatron finished off the job by firing the fusion cannon right through Optimus.

Following his resurrection, Optimus later turned the fusion cannon against Megatron during the final battle in Egypt...by blowing off half of his face and then severing it and part of Megatron's arm off with his own Energon sword. Revenge of the Fallen (film)

Megatron was later able to obtain another fusion cannon, albeit a handheld one which resembled a human shotgun. He used it on a number of occasions. Dark of the Moon (film)

It is also mentioned on Ironhide's toy packaging that he also carries a fusion cannon; presumably it is the blue glowing laser weapon on his left arm, though it is obviously much smaller than Megatron's.

Animated cartoon
Megatron's iconic cannon served admirably as a cutting torch when Megatron sought to gain access to the Autobots' ship. Transform and Roll Out After Megatron's revival, his newly rebuilt fusion cannon proved even more effective against the Autobot ship by knocking it clean out of the sky in under a minute with some help from Lugnut and Blitzwing. It also has an optical targeting lens... sometimes. Megatron Rising - Part 2 It was instrumental in repeatedly killing the newly-immortal Starscream, Mission Accomplished and was effectively used in the capture of Bulkhead. A Bridge Too Close, Part I

Eventually, it and his other miscellaneous weapons were removed when he was captured by Omega Supreme's internal defenses. Optimus Prime discovered painfully that Megatron was not as weak without it as he had hoped. TransWarped Megatron later restored it to its rightfull place on his arm, and used it as his primary weapon when he fought Optimus in the air. It survived the explosion of a Lugnut Supreme, despite being damaged. Megatron shot Optimus Prime with it again, but this time it was ineffective, and Optimus destroyed it with the Magnus Hammer

Notably Megatron, despite always precisely hitting Starscream, rarely manages to aim correctly when facing the Autobots. The writers were likely reluctant to have half the cast atomized in the space of five seconds, but to be fair, Starscream was unsurprisingly at point blank range for nearly every shot.

Megatron's fusion cannon is eventually destroyed at the hands of Optimus Prime with Ultra Magnus's Magnus Hammer. Endgame, Part II

Aligned continuity family
The Fusion Cannon could tap into interdimensional power sources to blast through almost any armor. Megatron had one, Battle Bio and so did The Fallen when he was Megatronus.
It manifested as a black, starry cloud that caused explosions. A similar situation occurred in the cartoon. Megatron was never shown to possess antimatter-channeling abilities, but he was shown to possess an anti-matter blaster in "Enter the Nightbird". Like every Decepticon weapon in the cartoon, it produced a purple laserbeam, though one that "absorbed" energy. The fusion cannon-power-source interpretation has never featured in a story.

* The deep percussive note at the beginning of the iconic fusion cannon sound effect (used throughout Generation 1 and Animated) is an old "stock" sound used frequently in American animation, most notably within Hanna-Barbera's Scooby Doo where it was used to signify cast members or objects falling on the ground, running into walls, etc.

* According to the Transformers: Mystery of Convoy strategy guide, Megatron's fusion cannon functions as a flame thrower. No wonder he got defeated easily, at least in the comic featuring in the strategy guide.
Megatron
:Megatron is the Decepticon leader from the Aligned continuity family.

The awesomely powerful Megatron is, in many ways, a fallen hero. He rose up from the oppressed lower working castes of Kaon to become a champion in the region's illegal deathmatches, cast aside his designation of D-16 and took the legendary name Megatronus as his own, he called for an end to Cybertron's decrepit caste system and told the downtrodden that freedom of self-determination was the right of all sentient beings!

But absolute power corrupts absolutely, and Megatron's Decepticon revolution, like many such movements, ended up becoming a whole new tyranny. Powerful, charismatic, violent, and full of rage for any who would stand in the way of his ambition and drive, Megatron brought Cybertron past the brink of destruction. Now he and his former brother-in-arms Optimus Prime fight on other worlds. Megatron will never forgive Optimus for "betraying" him, stealing from the Council the rank of Prime which was rightfully his. He has reserved for his old friend the greatest honor possible: glorious death at his hands.

Megatron has been gone for three years, but now he's returned. He's brought the monstrous Dark Energon to Earth, and quite possibly left his sanity in space.

Megatron nicknamed himself D-16 after the sector of the mine where he performed demolition operations. As a gladiator, in killing others he began to appreciate the value of life, and in between matches he became something of an intellectual, debating the castes with other miners. After bosses requested he lose a few fights, D-16 killed them and took over Kaon and Slaughter City. After murdering one boss in front of his employees, D-16 declared himself Megatronus, whom he considered the greatest of the Thirteen. After hearing his preaching on the Communication Grid against the Guilds of Cybertron, the concerned Sentinel Prime sent Bumper and Fastback to investigate. Megatronus killed them, believing two lives were worthless compared to the millions doomed by the castes Sentinel created.

After a victorious battle with the Insecticons, in which the crowd redubbed him Megatron, the gladiator was contacted by the Iaconian records monitor Orion Pax, and they began exchanging their ideas in intense but friendly philosophical discussions. Megatron encouraged Orion to learn self defense and invited him to visit Kaon, which he did to a warm welcome from Megatron (and from none of his gladiators). By this point Megatron was planning to call his movement the Decepticons, and he had begun sending his followers on a search for artifacts of the Primes, as their discovery would be signs their cause was just. His followers began bombing Cybertron, and Megatron distanced himself from their extremism to gain credibility. Orion and his mentor Alpha Trion believed him, but the latter was well aware Megatron might have gained a taste for violence after the attention it earned him. Soon enough, Megatron accepted the gift of a kidnapped Sentinel Prime from Starscream.

Alpha Trion organized a hearing for Orion and Megatron with the High Council. They protested involvement in Sentinel's disappearance. When confronted with the phrase "Decepticon", Megatron denied any knowledge of it but accepted his followers' term wholeheartedly, stating deception was necessary sometimes for the corrupt to see the truth. When Halogen revealed Megatron's followers had been trying to locate the Matrix of Leadership, he declared that Orion should become the Prime that he desperately wanted to lead Cybertron into the new Golden Age, and find it. Incensed, Megatron killed Halogen, and when Optimus prevented the Elite Guard from attacking Megatron, the ungrateful gladiator declared Optimus had fallen into the trap of power the High Council had given him. He declared Optimus was no longer his brother (though he would continue to refer to him as such privately), and that the Matrix would be his.

In the subsequent war with Optimus' Autobots, the Decepticons took control of eighty-five percent of the planet. Wherever Starscream's Seekers aided, they were victorious. Megatron was initially merciful to neutrals, but he let Shockwave take control of Tarn and torture Autobot sympathizers there. When the Praxians, a progressive city-state who were disappointed with the direction Megatron took, allied with the Autobots, Megatron decided he would no longer try to convert followers and launched the first genocide of the war, slaughtering all in Nova Cronum who would not submit to the Decepticons as they attacked.

As the war dragged into a siege of Iacon, Soundwave's spying bore fruit as he discovered Dark Energon, the essence of Unicron, was aboard Trypticon. Megatron forgave Starscream for hiding its existence from him, acknowledging its potentially dangerous nature. To ensure loyalty, Megatron's gladiators stormed the Station slaughtering and maiming Starscream's scientists. He forced Starscream to pick two test subjects to be Darkened, and following an astonishingly successful result, Megatron absorbed some, invigorating him. Soon Darkened Decepticons appeared on the battlefield, but it proved to be an inefficient resource and they would have to flee if a battle was prolonged. Megatron needed more, and even Starscream's activation of the Geosynchronous Energon Bridge didn't provide enough. Megatron felt he would kill all the Decepticons before he was deprived of Dark Energon and turn rabid.

Fortunately, Soundwave revealed the existence of the Plasma Energy Chamber within Teletraan-1, which required the Code Keys of Power and Justice to activate it. Starscream recovered the Key of Power, while Megatron and his best soldiers searched for the Key of Justice below the High Council Tower. Sentinel Prime emerged, to Megatron's surprise. Sentinel confronted him about Bumper and Fastback, and the two dueled. Megatron disarmed and sliced open Sentinel, revealing the Key of Justice within. Starscream made a grab for it, exposing that he had released Sentinel to kill Megatron and take leadership for himself. After fighting Starscream to a standstill, Megatron pardoned him as he found him a better soldier than would-be example, and used the Keys to open Teletraan-1: which activated Omega Supreme to fly the Chamber to safety.

The Seekers shot Omega Supreme out of the air, causing him to crash. Optimus's Autobots arrived to fight the Decepticons, but the more they killed them the more Dark Energon left their bodies and empowered Megatron. He was able to knee Omega Supreme and turn him on his back, tearing the Chamber out of his chest. Using the Chamber, Megatron poisoned the core of Cybertron and Darkened the entire planet. But then the core stopped producing Dark Energon, and Megatron learnt Optimus had gone to the core and received the Matrix. As the Autobots attempted to flee Cybertron via the last space bridge, Megatron used Trypticon to fire on their ships, and used his and Orion's old frequency to criticize Optimus for fleeing. He added he never believed in individual freedom for every Cybertronian, only the illusion of freedom that he as leader would provide and that the Guilds did not. Optimus responded that Megatron had turned his soldiers into addicts and they would turn on him, and used the Eight Track to board, sabotage and crash Trypticon.

As the Autobots left on the completed Ark, the Decepticons fully invaded Iacon. Megatron ordered Trypticon to transform into the Nemesis, boarding it with Starscream, Soundwave, Lugnut and other elite soldiers, leaving Shockwave in charge. He used his old frequency once again to warn Optimus that he would hound him through the stars and finally kill him for the Matrix. He explained they were still brothers, as they were bonded for life despite their enmity. Optimus was just glad his hunt would get him off Cybertron. The two ships entered the last space bridge together, and when the Ark emerged, the Nemesis was gone. Transformers: Exodus

In the waning years of the Golden Age of Cybertron, Megatronus (who named himself after one of the original thirteen Primes) was a gladiator who noticed there was a disparity in freedom among the classes of his race, and that the ruling class was corrupt and all-powerful. In drawing attention to this inequity, he inspired a Hall of Records clerk named Orion Pax, and the two joined forces to end corruption and bring equality to the masses. Soundwave also helped them. One Shall Rise, Part 3 Orion and Megatronus became close allies, almost like brothers. But soon Megatronus's ideals would become corrupted, and the two would become bitter enemies. Masters & Students

Megatronus shortened his name to Megatron before he and Orion Pax appeared before the High Council. Shocking his colleague with his true intentions, Megatron stated that he would overthrow the High Council by force and instate himself as the next Prime. But it was Orion's speech that drew their attention. Jealous, Megatron left angrily and began his conquest, which resulted in countless casualties and left the Core of Cybertron itself poisoned. Denied the Matrix of Leadership by the High Council, Megatron was obsessed with finding it, but Orion Pax was given it by the Core itself, and Orion became Optimus Prime. One Shall Rise, Part 3

Over the following years, Megatron and Optimus fought many a battle, such as the Battle of Technar where Megatron ordered Skyquake to assassinate Optimus Prime. Masters & Students After his failure, Megatron came to believe only he should finally terminate Prime. Darkness Rising, Part 4

The Transformers' war eventually brought Megatron and Prime's teams to Earth, where, after an initial clash, Megatron withdrew to space to search for more troops, leaving Starscream in charge. Darkness Rising, Part 1 Searching the void for three years, Megatron found something better than mere warriors: he discovered a new source of Dark Energon, the "blood of Unicron", with which he could reanimate fallen Transformers as an army of the undead. Returning to Earth and resuming command of the Decepticons, Megatron tested the Dark Energon on the deceased Autobot Cliffjumper, reviving him as a zombie "Terrorcon" that slaughtered several Decepticon Miners, but which posed no threat to Megatron himself. Unfortunately for Megatron, this partial reactivation of Cliffjumper's lifesigns drew Optimus Prime's Autobots to the Decepticons' mining operations. Deciding it was not yet time for a confrontation with Prime, Megatron withdrew aboard the Nemesis, and continued to brood over the Dark Energon.

Megatron's inability to control the zombie Cliffjumper convinced him that he needed to integrate the Dark Energon into his own body in order to control the undead legions he planned to create. Darkness Rising, Part 2 Thrusting a shard of the material into his spark, he was filled with its power, feeling as thought he was connected to Unicron's very thoughts. Requiring a test run for his new power, Megatron headed for the site of an ancient Cybertronian battle on Earth, full of the remains of fallen warriors, where he was confronted by Optimus and Ratchet. Using Dark Energon to raise the dead Transformers as Terrorcons, Megatron successfully found he had complete control of the undead horde, and send them against the two Autobots. Darkness Rising, Part 3 Optimus and Ratchet fought their way through the Terrorcons, only for Megatron to fly off before they could reach him, satisfied with his test results and ready put his plan into action—to open a space bridge to Cybertron and use Dark Energon to revive the entire planet's dead. Darkness Rising, Part 4 Despite the Autobots' best efforts to damage the Nemesis and prevent the bridge from opening, Megatron succeeded in his plans, and then had his showdown with Optimus Prime atop the bridge itself as he waited for the Terrorcon legions to pass through to Earth. While the two old foes battled, the other Autobots sabotaged the bridge, causing it to explode and destroy both the Terrorcon army, and seemingly, Megatron himself. Darkness Rising, Part 5
The Autobots were not so lucky, however: the Dark Energon in his spark allowed Megatron to survive the explosion, but just barely. When Starscream found his leader floating in space, he tore the Dark Energon from his body in the hope that he would expire, but was caught in the act by Soundwave's Deployer, Laserbeak and forced to take Megatron back to the Nemesis, where he was placed in stasis in the sick bay. Masters & Students Starscream was content to leave Megatron in this state to recover or expire as fate saw fit, but the crew of the Nemesis disagreed, and voted to bring in the Decepticon medic Knock Out to help heal their wounded leader. Deus ex Machina Even with Knock Out's expertise, it seemed unlikely that Megatron would recover, but his assistant Breakdown gave his body a good buffing nonetheless; Starscream approved, as it meant their ex-leader would look his best for the memorial service. Speed Metal

When Optimus Prime was infected by cybonic plague, Arcee and Bumblebee board the Nemesis to search for an antidote. While they failed to find one in the database, the two Autobots did discover Megatron in stasis, and Bumblebee mind-linked with the Decepticon leader via cortical psychic patch to try and pluck the cure from his sleeping brain. Bumblebee found himself within Megatron's mind, which took the form of Kaon, where the Decepticon's subconscious was spending its time killing endless visions of Optimus Primes; unfortunately, Bumblebee's intrusion only caused Megatron to become aware of his situation, when he found he was unable to kill Bumblebee. Learning what had befallen Optimus, Megatron initially refused to give up the cure until Bumblebee convinced him that he would gain greater satisfaction from finishing his enemy off with his own two hands. Megatron offered the cure in exchange for Bumblebee's help in escaping his mental prison, but Bumblebee double-crossed him, withdrawing from his mind as soon as the cure was in Autobot hands. At the last moment, Megatron was able to effect his own escape, leaping into Bumblebee's mind along with him. Sick Mind Recalling the sliver of Dark Energon Starscream had removed from his body, Megatron took full control of Bumblebee's body a short time later and used the GroundBridge to return to the ancient battlefield where he had raised his original Terrorcons, recovering the Dark Energon shard he had used to do so. He returned to the Autobot base, where he dealt with Ratchet and Raf before again GroundBridging to the Nemesis and using the Dark Energon to restore his body and return his mind to it. Storming out of the Nemesis to find Starscream, Megatron snatched his subordinate out of the air in the middle of a battle with Optimus Prime and took him back for his punishment. Out of His Head

Despite his treason, Megatron decided not to terminate Starscream, viewing him as no real threat and taking perverse amusement in his repeated failures. Rock Bottom Instead, Megatron proceeded to beat Starscream only to near death, then had him placed in the infirmary, occasionally visiting to gloat. Shadowzone (episode)

When Breakdown was captured by the humans of MECH, Megatron refuted Starscream's suggestion that they rescue him, announcing that if Breakdown had allowed himself to be captured by those weaker than him, then he deserved whatever he got. Operation: Breakdown Breakdown did manage to escape, however, insisted his wounded pride saw him volunteer to recover a polarity gauntlet for Megatron, in order to prove his worth. Megatron was disappointed when his minion returned without the gauntlet, but was placated with the revelation that he had instead brought back Airachnid. Metal Attraction

Discovering that Starscream was still attempting to mine energon for his personal use without his knowledge, Megatron determined that the amusement had come to an end. Taking him to the mine in question, Megatron revealed that he had been aware of Starscream's previous transgressions the whole time thanks to Soundwave, and was about to execute his grovelling lieutenant when Jack Darby and Arcee walked in. In the firefight that followed, stray shots from Megatron's fusion cannon brought the mine down on top of them all, with Megatron being completely pinned by rubble. Jack happened upon the Decepticon leader with a mining drill, and Megatron, knowing that the human would not help him, instead urged Jack to finish him off. Jack refused, saying that wasn't what Optimus would do, and left, but the opening he had created allowed Megatron to begin his escape. After finally extricating himself, Megatron came upon Starscream trying to keep a large rock from crushing him. Starscream insisted that he had come to rescue Megatron, and begged the Decepticon leader to spare him, and Megatron acquiesced with a smirk. Rock Bottom

Though Megatron allowed Starscream to live and continue as his second-in-command, he was furious to learn from Airachnid that Starscream had kept the location of the Harbinger from him. He ordered Starscream to lead Airachnid to the crash site and retrieve an experimental weapon that was inside. Much to Megatron's fury, Airachnid returned not only without the weapon, but with the news that Starscream had been captured by the Autobots as well. Partners
When a formula for Synthetic Energon was transferred from a Cybertronian data cylinder into the mind of the Autobot Bulkhead, Optimus Prime petitioned Megatron for the return of the cylinder so they could extract the formula, after which they would willingly hand it over. Megatron briefly considered the proposal, but instead sent Knock Out and Breakdown to capture Bulkhead and dared Prime to fight for the cylinder. When his Vehicon troops were defeated, Megatron simply crushed the device and took flight. T.M.I. The synthetic energon formula helped the Autobots counter Megatron's next tactic: causing the Autobots to burn through their energon supplies at an accelerated rate by leading them on wild goose chases. Juiced up on the "SynthEn", Ratchet attacked Megatron and Knock Out while they were surveying an energon mine, and sent the Decepticon leader flying with one punch. Unfortunately for Ratchet, Megatron swiftly recovered and subdued the Autobot medic with ease. Stronger, Faster

Convinced by Dark Energon-induced visions that an impending prophecy detailed his own destiny, Megatron stepped up the Decepticons' work in constructing a new space bridge so they could obtain more Dark Energon. When they located the last component they needed, Megatron went in personally, grievously wounding Raf with a blast of Dark Energon on the way and creating an unintended distraction that allowed him to make off with the power source he needed. Soon after, Megatron lured Optimus Prime to a volcano he had seen in his visions, and during their battle, it erupted with Dark Energon, imbuing Megatron with the power he needed to fell Prime. One Shall Fall The intervention of the other Autobots saved Prime's life, but this was of little concern to Megatron, who now had all the Dark Energon he needed and set his miners to work gathering it up. When Soundwave detected a spark-beat coming from within the Earth, Megatron felt it pounding through his brain and realized what his visions had meant: the lifeforce of Unicron himself dwelt within Earth. Leaving Airachnid in command, Megatron flew into the volcano to address Unicron, but received not the power he hoped the chaos-bringer would bestow on him, but instead Unicron's displeasure at the fact that Optimus Prime still lived. One Shall Rise, Part 1

Spurned, Megatron instead went to the aid of Optimus and his Autobots, who were under attack from Unicron's stone avatars. He offered Optimus his services—he intended to lead them to Unicron's real form so that Optimus could use the Matrix of Leadership on the Chaos God. While the Autobots returned to base, Megatron kept the giant stone Unicrons busy, and Prime eventually accepted Megatron's offer. On arrival in the Autobot base, Megatron encountered a couple of humans he recognized, Raf and Jack, as well as a new loud one. Megatron was first to step through the GroundBridge into the Earth's core, and as the Autobots followed, he warned them that Unicron already knew they were there. One Shall Rise, Part 2

Despite the persistent influence of Unicron, Megatron led the Autobots through Unicron's insides, even helping them fight off antibodies. The Dark Energon he was imbued with allowed him to enter Unicron's spark chamber with Optimus, though at that point Unicron's influence became so great that the Chaos God was able to commandeer his body. After Optimus unleashed the power of the Matrix, apparently extinguishing Unicron's spark, Megatron went to kill Optimus, only to discover his foe had lost his memory and now believed himself to be Orion Pax. Megatron convinced Optimus that the other Autobots were enemies, and the pair returned to the Nemesis, where Megatron introduced "Orion Pax" to his men. One Shall Rise, Part 3
Transformers: War for Cybertron (Xbox 360/PS3/PC)
:Voice actor: Fred Tatasciore (English), Oliviero Corbetta (Italian), Juan Carlos Lozano (Spain-Spanish)

During the early war on Cybertron, Megatron found reference to an energy source called Dark Energon, which had impressive potential as a weapon, and became determined to claim it for himself. One of the few places it was made was in a station in orbit around Cybertron, guarded by a politically neutral force led by Starscream. With this knowledge, he took a ship and launched an assault on the station.

The ship was badly damaged in the attack, and so he ordered Barricade and Brawl, piloting it, to ram the station. He and many of his soldiers survived the impact and escaped the core's detonation. They were then confronted by Starscream, who informed them that they would not allow them to take what he had guarded for ten thousand years. After surviving a trap of sentry guns, Megatron, Barricade, and Brawl were reinforced by more of Megatron's troops, and set out on their way to find the station's Dark Energon stores and claim them for the war effort. They encountered significant resistance, but managed to shoot their way through, with directional aid from Soundwave. Barricade noted that the station itself seemed quite primitive; Megatron noted it was very old, and that he intended to modernize it... At one point, the Seeker Jetfire confronted Megatron nonviolently, asking him to give up his quest, as Dark Energon would result in only horror, death, and destruction, to which Megatron sneered, "You say that as if it were a bad thing."

Along their way to the Dark Energon, they found that a large portion of the station had been blasted clean off, the debris field traversable but sparse enough to allow easy viewing of Cybertron itself. Soundwave soon found records indicating that a small amount of Dark Energon lost containment and was the sole cause of the destruction, underscoring Megatron's desire for it. When Barricade asked how he expected to control it when no other had, Megatron said that such power was only for the strong, that he was the strongest, and not to question him again.

When they finally reached the storage chamber, and Megatron averted Starscream's destruction of it, he calmly entered into a container full of raw Dark Energon, while Starscream watched and gloated at his imminent destruction...only for him to walk out, not only unscathed, but crackling with power, which he further bestowed upon Barricade and Brawl. A single blast of Dark Energon was enough to destroy an entire company of station security forces, the last line of defense between Megatron and Starscream and his companions.

Jetfire again tried to warn Megatron about the dangers of Dark Energon, but Starscream interrupted, asking to join the Decepticon leader. Megatron asked what Starscream could offer that he could not simply take. Starscream revealed the station's supply of Dark Energon was almost spent, and he knew how to manufacture more—and as luck would have it, there was a dormant Geosynchronous Energon Bridge which could be used to power it. Jetfire retreated to inform Zeta Prime; Megatron let him go, seeming pleased by the notion of letting the Autobots tremble in advance of their actions, and sent Starscream, Thundercracker, and Skywarp to activate the bridge.

Megatron repeatedly mocked what he perceived as Starscream's slowness in his simple mission, but the Seeker did what he said he could. With a steady supply of Dark Energon, Megatron launched an attack on Iacon City, intending to take a device called the Omega Key and use it to enter the Core of Cybertron. This time, he took Breakdown and Soundwave with him. The trio took the less-guarded way in—which, since the Autobots were not complete fools (as even Megatron would admit), still had significant military presence. During the attack, Starscream noted that Dark Energon was proving every bit as potent as Megatron had promised. Breakdown let Megatron know of his misgivings about the Sky Commander; Megatron admitted he was treacherous and untrustworthy, but he had useful talents, and his cunning and ambition was intriguing.

The Omega Key had been taken from its normal resting place, however, by Autobot leader Zeta Prime, and so Megatron took his squad on an assault on Zeta's headquarters. They met Brawl, leading an attack on the doors to Zeta Prime's armory, along the way. Even Megatron's touch of Dark Energon could not breach the vault doors, however, and so he called in Dark Energon Bombers. When they were shot down, Brawl suggested they take out the Autobots' air defense guns, after which bombers were called in again; Megatron's troops then held off a massive assault from what seemed like the entire Autobot army while waiting for the bombing run to finally arrive.

After the vault doors were breached, they reached Zeta Prime himself, who had constructed several layers of security while he waited. An invincible energy field protected him, while he could drop portions of the ceiling with pistons to crush anything beneath them, and construct endless holographic clones of himself outfitted for melee combat, which Megatron personally found nauseating. However, his defenses were not without flaw: periodically, the power core would need to disperse waste heat, and Megatron's team survived long enough to destroy it during this stage. Zeta fell, buried under the wreckage of his own defenses, and Megatron took the device he'd carried...which started to make electronic chirping noises. Zeta, with black humor, noted that the device was not the Omega Key. It merely activated the Key, which would come to them...

Searching for the Key in the skies aboard another ship, Megatron, with Soundwave and Breakdown at the controls, were abruptly confronted by a massive ship, Omega Supreme, who knocked them out of the sky, causing them to crash back in Iacon. There, they played a cat-and-mouse campaign in a desperate attempt to survive the enormous Autobot's vast firepower, though Soundwave noted that the weaponry they bore had little chance of penetrating Omega Supreme's armor. Megatron, for his part, at least contrived to appear unafraid, claiming that if it came to a real fight, the brute wouldn't stand a chance against Megatron's intellect. However, Omega's attacks drove them underground and left them unable to immediately transmit counter to Starscream, who declared Megatron dead and announced he was taking control. Even when they re-established contact, Starscream's aerial forces only briefly distracted Omega, who dispensed large numbers of troops, sucked up Decepticons with a tractor beam, fired weapons of mass destruction, and mined the roads Megatron and his squad were using.

Soundwave, however, had come up with a suggestion—there were weapons emplacements higher up that had the ability to damage Omega Supreme. Taking them from the Autobots was a battle in and of itself, but nothing compared to the fight against Omega Supreme, who could unload entire squadrons of Aerialbots. Nonetheless, Megatron's boldness and tactical acumen finally shot Omega Supreme out of the sky.

Gloating, Megatron found that the behemoth was still not defeated, and indeed was drawing power from Cybertron itself to repair his systems, making him stronger, if anything. However, by corrupting the energon batteries with which he was using to feed himself with Dark Energon charges, they were able to weaken him to the point where they could finally blast away his last defenses and brought him to heel. With Omega Supreme defeated, Megatron went underground, directly to the Core, and corrupted it with a massive infusion of Dark Energon, finally bringing Cybertron itself more completely under his control.

At this point, Megatron was clearly convinced, and for good reason, that he'd won, making propaganda broadcasts extolling his greatness and how he had taken away the Autobots' burdens of "liberty" and "choice". When Starscream was defeated and the Decagon retaken, however, he realized the Autobots were not yet going to roll over for him, and sent a distress signal from Zeta Prime, whom he had kept alive in the Kaon prison camp, in order to provoke a rescue attempt from the Autobots. His old acquaintance Optimus took the bait, and Megatron confronted him, telling him that the war could be over tomorrow if Optimus took the Autobots and left. Optimus refused, so Megatron consigned him and his team to the prisons. When they managed to stage a mass breakout, an enraged Megatron ordered his troops to prevent their escape at any cost, to the point of tearing apart portions of Kaon.

This was not enough, however, and they escaped, journeying to the Core, where they kickstarted the cleansing of Megatron's corruption. Doing so, however, would take the Core millions of years of shutdown, rendering Cybertron uninhabitable. Whether Megatron knew this or not, when he saw the Autobots leaving after Optimus's refusal of his earlier offer, he apparently took offense. His earlier plans of renovating Starscream's station had come to fruition; now, it mounted a powerful superweapon, capable of destroying entire structures in one shot. He had it fire upon the Autobot transports as they left. When a team of Aerialbots attempted to disable or destroy it, he called Jetfire, now one of them, and taunted him about his past. He further mocked them when they destroyed the plasma coolant system without apparently having accounted for backups. Finally, during the attack he came into possession of information on Optimus Prime's location, and ordered Trypticon—the name of the weapon, for it was actually a Cybertronian—to fire upon it.

Trypticon, however, was forced into his natural form and defeated after he crash-landed on Cybertron. Megatron's reaction to this went unrecorded. Transformers: War for Cybertron (360/PS3/PC)
Transformers: War for Cybertron (DS)
Megatron was the Decepticon Leader during the final days of the Great War. After capturing an Autobot facility, and killing a cadet, Megatron revealed his plan to his troops. Megatron intended to conquer Trypticon Space Station, which had the means and power to manufacture Dark Energon: a variant of Energon which greatly increased the stamina and strength of its host. Megatron fought his way through the station to its commander, the Autobot Starscream. Upon Starscream's defeat, Starscream offered his services and the Dark Energon if he was spared. Megatron agreed, and Starscream joined the Decepticons.

After a test run of the Dark Energon in Kaon Prison, Soundwave deduced the element would only kill the host, but Starscream was able to find a way to fix it. Megatron then decided the time was right, and led his army to the inner levels of Cybertron. He was able to activate the uplink to channel energy from the Core of Cybertron itself to Trypticon Station, but he needed the Omega Key to access it once it was shut down with a firewall.

Megatron learned through a recording from Laserbeak that Autobot Leader Zeta Prime had the Omega Key in his possession and had holed up deep within Iacon. Megatron led a full-scale assault on the city, totally devastating Iacon, until he found Zeta Prime at last. After a hard battle, Zeta fell, and Megatron obtained the Omega Key. However, immediately upon taking it, alarms went off, and Iacon itself was shaking. Zeta Prime, despite being mortally wounded, laughed at Megatron's face, saying the Omega Key was only the key to the true key: the city-sized Autobot Omega Supreme.

Omega immediately attacked the victorious Decepticons, and quickly decimated their presence in Iacon, save for Megatron's team and a few others. By this point, Megatron was absolutely furious at Starscream: Megatron declared it was he who led them to Omega Supreme and the devastating onslaught he carried out. Starscream bitterly retorted even if Megatron killed him, Omega Supreme would still be out for his blood, helping nothing whatsoever. Megatron angrily let it go for the time being, and led his army to battle. His troops' confidence beginning to falter, Megatron declared they would either be kicking themselves for not acting for the rest of their lives, or heroes in a historic event. His men followed him to battle Omega, and the titan fell. Megatron was free to corrupt the Core of Cybertron with Dark Energon, and obtain near-supremacy of Cybertron.

That kind of went downhill when the new Autobot leader, Optimus Prime, extinguished the Dark Energon and destroyed Trypticon Space Station, didn't it?

Early in the war, when the Autobots learned of the existence of the orbiting superweapon Trypticon, Megatron sent waves of Decepticon forces to keep them from discovering more about it. Megatron, happy to see the destruction Trypticon was creating, ordered Starscream and Skywarp at gunpoint to return to Trypticon and clean up after it, while he took his troops into battle to scour the area for Autobots to kill. Few Autobots other than the medic, Ratchet, were spared Megatron's initial assault.

When Megatron found out that Starscream had left his post at Trypticon, Megatron grew angry. But the Autobots had infiltrated the Datacore, so Megatron focused his efforts there instead. Bumblebee was captured, and information useful for the taking of Iacon was pulled from his mind. Megatron assigned Skywarp the task of the initial Iacon assault. The traitorous Starscream returned to Megatron's focus, and the Air Commander was ordered to infiltrate the Core of Cybertron to reactivate the Geosynchronous Energon Bridge. But Starscream took too long, discovering Megatron had already reached the Core by the time he arrived. In a foul mood, Megatron would test Starscream's loyalty by putting him on the Iacon assault's front lines.

The assault went as planned, and Iacon crumbled. As Barricade and Starscream reached an empty Council Chamber, Megatro alerted them to the evacuation of the surviving Autobots. Three Autobot ships positioned themselves to escape, and so Megatron ordered Thundercracker and Skywarp to take them down.

Though Iacon fell, the Trypticon orbiting superweapon was destroyed by the Autobots... but not before Megatron ripped the datacore from its brain so as to salvage its information on Dark Energon. Megatron was pleased. Despite his loss, he still had the upper hand. Transformers: Cybertron Adventures
The treads of his vehicle can be positioned in either a vertical configuration like a traditional tank or in a horizontal, hovertank configuration. Megatron's spring-loaded cannon can attach to either arm. He also has an insignia on his back, but unlike Optimus, his is not hidden by kibble. : This Deluxe-Class version of Megatron transforms into his alien ship mode. He comes with his Fusion Cannon, which can either be held with his hands in robot mode, or peg onto his jet mode by folding the handle in and pegging it behind his exposed, peeking head. It is also in this latter configuration for the cannon that the otherwise useless groove and tab on the cannon and its handle can be pegged onto the tab and otherwise useless socket on his right arm, giving him the classic, arm-mounted, yet strangely undocumented Fusion Cannon configuration shown in his stock photography.

: Speaking of undocumented features, his instructions show a noticeably different "completed" vehicle mode when compared to his stock photos. Specifically, the instructions completely neglect the extra steps to flip his wings out and form a more show-accurate vehicle mode, opting instead for a more slender, wingless vehicle mode. To achieve this undocumented form, his underside leg panels must be opened, flipped around and over to the top of the ship, be pegged onto a tab on the side of his intakes, and his pointy wingtips must be flipped out from underneath.

: He also has some clearance issues when transforming. His intakes and the panel that surrounds his head in vehicle mode tend to collide when the intakes are snugly angled into and out of the panel, often resulting in the intakes popping off the (detachable) plastic hinges that they're on.

: He also comes somewhat mis-transformed in the package, with the positions of the intakes and the panel on his back being switched around, with the panel being placed after the intakes, instead of before.
*Megatron's designation as an energon miner was "D-16". Megatron's original Japanese ID number was "16". Takara would eventually change the numbering system using a "D" to denote Destrons. So Megatron's Japanese ID number could retroactively be considered "D-16".
*In Transformers: War for Cybertron, Megatron has multiple glitches when controlled by the computer, among them shrinking (quite hilariously), losing his Fusion Cannon, and having his Tank mode cannon stick straight up (also humorous). He may be the most glitchy character in the game.
*Optimus Prime's recollections in Darkness Rising have him and Megatron fighting side-by-side at the start of the Great War. This is the first time a Megatron has been involved in a Great War that he didn't start, never mind one where he used to be a goodie.
*The show design of this version of Megatron takes visual cues from both G1 (the ever-famous buckethead) and the Movie version of the Decepticon leader (the sharp angles and bits on his shoulders, along with two-toed feet and a demonic-looking face with sharp teeth), even including the jet mode the latter version appeared in: the Prime staff used the same rationale that Megatron would not scan an Earth mode out of disgust at humans. According to Cybertronian Megatron's packaging bio, Megatron often changes his altmode, probably in an attempt to explain why he's a tank in the game and a jet in the cartoon.
*At a video shown at the 2010 San Diego Comic-Con, Welker explained his Prime voice for Megatron would be mostly toned down from his Generation 1 counterpart, to give the character more range. When the show aired, Megatron indeed had a more quiet, sinister version of his voice than the iconic shouty one.
