{{disambig3|Grimlock}}

:''Grimlock is an [[Autobot]] in [[Generation 1]] and a [[Maximal]] in the [[Beast Wars]] portion of the Generation 1 [[continuity family]].''

[[Image:Grimlockg1.jpg|right|thumb|250px|Me Grimlock draw self-portrait.]]

Some Autobots wonder why '''Grimlock''' is even on their side. His disposition is much more suited towards the [[Decepticons]]. After all, he values power and strength over wisdom and compassion, and furthermore, he doesn't get along with any of the Autobots. These things, coupled with his dislike of [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]], has led to a defection or two on Grimlock's part. However, deep down, Grimlock holds a respect for Prime, such as the loyalty he inspires in the Autobots. Also, [[Ironhide (G1)|some]] [[Brawn|people]] also hold the strength thing more important that the smarts. Or, Grimlock just hates [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]] more than he hates Optimus. (Which means he must hate him A LOT.)

Grimlock is the leader of the [[Dinobot (G1)|Dinobot]]s, a small but very close team of misfits. It's been said that anyone who enters a battle with the Dinobots usually leaves it feet-first. Assuming they leave anything of their opponents left.
====Generation 1====
:''('''Note''': The comic Dinobots had average, functional intellects. Grimlock affected a caveman-esque speech pattern to mask his intelligence<ref>Grimlock possesses a brilliant mind but considers intellectuals weak. He chooses to talk dumb rather than be thought of as weak. ''Marvel UK #200 'Secrets of the Transformers' booklet.''</ref>, leaving his fellow Autobots to think he has a glitch in his speech processor. The other Dinobots speak normally. )

:''Events from UK-only stories are italicized.''

While the Autobots remained dormant inside [[Mount St. Hilary]], the [[Ark]] detected Cybertronian life. Dispatching a probe, the Ark learned that [[Shockwave (G1)|Shockwave]] had come to Earth and was wandering the [[Savage Land]]. The Ark used data gathered from the Savage Land to convert five of the dormant Autobots into the Dinobots. They traveled to fight Shockwave, but all combatants became trapped in a tar pit. {{storylink|The Last Stand}} The Dinobots were later freed by [[Ratchet]], and joined the Autobots from time to time, but they were usually seen wandering on their own under Grimlock's orders.

Grimlock was a powerful and arrogant warrior who believed he knew best. He ascended to the post of overall Autobot leader on several occasions, growing in the process and eventually, despite their original conflict, becoming Optimus's hand-picked lieutenant and likely successor. Early on, [[Blaster]] was a major thorn in his side, deserting his command. Later, he tended to fight with the straight-laced, logical [[Prowl]].
[[Image:Biggrim_me_king.jpg|left|thumb|250px|Me Grimlock no bozo, me king!]]
One of the many casualties in an [[Underbase]]-powered [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream's]] rampage, Grimlock was brought back on-line by [[Ratchet (G1)|Ratchet]], using [[Pretender]] technology stolen from Megatron.  {{storylink|All the Familiar Faces!}}  While Grimlock, along with [[Jazz]] and [[Bumblebee (G1)|Bumblebee]], handily defeated Megatron's minions, he was unable to save Ratchet when Megatron's base exploded.  {{storylink|Skin Deep}}

Afterward, Grimlock, Jazz and Bumblebee briefly joined the Autobot resistance movement on Cybertron before attempting to return to Earth via [[Trans-Time Dimensional Portal|trans-time dimensional portal]]. However, [[Thunderwing (G1)|Thunderwing]], seeking to crush the resistance's momentum, sent ''the latest incarnation of'' the [[Mayhem Attack Squad]] to destroy the three Autobot Pretenders. Infiltrating [[Autobase]], the three Decepticons sabotaged the portal, teleporting all six Transformers (and the [[Micromaster]] [[Rescue Patrol]]) deep into the heart of Cybertron, where the Autobots discovered the resting place of their god, [[Primus]]. {{storylink|Yesterday's Heroes!}}

Grimlock at first thought it was all a Decepticon trick, and was [[Atechnogenesis|skeptical]] that the Transformers even had a god. When the [[Keeper]] appeared, Grimlock demanded the ancient Transformer "prove it" by telling them the story of the Transformers' origin. The Keeper's story (complete with holographic slide-show) was suitably convincing, but unfortunately gave the Mayhem Attack Squad time to sneak up on the Autobots, and another battle ensued. The outnumbered Decepticons were no match for Grimlock and company, but [[Bludgeon (G1)|Bludgeon's]] last-ditch shot ricocheted off the Dinobot's back, waking Primus. A few seconds too late, the Autobots in Autobase repaired the portal, sending the lost Transformers to Earth. Grimlock immediately demanded they find the Earth-based Autobots to warn them of [[Unicron]]. {{storylink|Primal Scream}}

After rejoining Optimus Prime's forces, Grimlock, Jazz and Bumblebee formed a team in the search for the lost [[Matrix of Leadership|Creation Matrix]]. Traveling to [[VsQs]], where Optimus Prime's funeral barge had crashed, the three began to search an abandoned science station for any clue as to the Matrix's whereabouts. While Bumblebee searched the computer logs, Grimlock went looking for the science team - only to discover they had all been killed.  Before the Autobots could formulate a plan, Thunderwing attacked. Grimlock's first reaction was to attack, but all three could not defeat the Decepticon leader. Instead, they were "saved" by the [[Matrix Spawn]], which became Thunderwing's new target. The three Autobots searched the wrecked station independently and recovered the Matrix. Low on [[Energon]], the three attempted to return to their shuttle, but the moon's heavy gravity slowed them down, allowing Thunderwing to overtake them, defeating the three weakened Autobots and claiming the Matrix for his own.  {{storylink|Dark Creation}}

After Thunderwing's defeat, the Autobots sent a shuttle to VsQs to rescue Grimlock and the others, who were low on Energon and on the verge of [[stasis lock]]. Grimlock was none to grateful for his rescue, instead berating himself for failing to destroy Thunderwing and guilty that he was alive while the other Dinobots were still deactivated. However, without Ratchet or the Matrix, the Autobots knew of no way to bring back their fallen. Grimlock sought Optimus' permission to travel to [[Hydrus Four]] and investigate the rumors of the substance [[Nucleon]]. When Optimus refused, Grimlock stole a shuttle and the bodies of the Dinobots and went anyway, which everyone really should have seen coming.  {{storylink|Eye of the Storm!}}

Once on Hydrus Four, Grimlock sought out the medi-center on the island of Farooth, where the well of Nucleon was kept. Along the way, he encountered the substance's three guardians, zombie-like mechanoids who attempted to bar visitors from tapping the Nucleon. Two engaged him in combat, but Grimlock dispatched them easily. Unlike destroying Decepticons, he could take no pleasure in his victories, which seemed pointless. He began to question his motives - was he really trying to save the Dinobots, or just prove himself a better leader than Prime? By the time he reached the island of Farooth, Grimlock simply wanted the grim business done with.

At the well, Grimlock encountered the final guardian. The Hydrusian didn't want to fight, but instead warned him that Nucleon always came with unexpected side effects. To quell the doubts that had plagued him since his arrival, Grimlock decided to test the Nucleon on himself, plunging a hand into the well. Feeling a surge of power and no immediate side effects, Grimlock decided it had to be safe, and went to work reviving the other Dinobots, ignoring the Hydrusian's parting words, "Time will tell".  {{storylink|The Price of Life!}}

With the Dinobots revived, Grimlock loaded up as much Nucleon as he could and returned to the Ark.  {{storylink|...All This and Civil War 2}}  The Dinobots found it empty (as Primus had teleported the Earth-bound Transformers back to Cybertron). Electing not to waste time looking for the others, Grimlock ordered  [[Swoop (G1)|Swoop]] to set course for Cybertron while [[Sludge (G1)|Sludge]] and [[Slag (G1)|Slag]] pumped the Nucleon into the Ark's life-support pods. The Dinobots were unaware that the life-support pods also held Megatron, as Grimlock departed before Ratchet's rescue.   {{storylink|The Void!}}

Grimlock was the first Transformer to begin feeling the Nucleon's effect. Before he even left Hydrus Four, he began suffering erratic joint locks. He tried to hide the symptoms as long as he could, but after Unicron's defeat they began to worsen, until his entire body seized up during a battle. [[Hi-Q]] came to his rescue, recognizing that the Nucleon was still transforming Grimlock's body. Hi-Q accelerated the process, as the Nucleon granted Grimlock a new, more powerful body, but at the cost of [[Action Master|his ability to transform]].{{storylink|Still Life!}}
'''(Note: The following three sections all split off from the end of the Generation 1 comic, but in three different, irreconcilable directions.)'''

====''Another Time and Place'' text story====
====Generation 2====
After the coming of the [[Last Autobot]], much of the Autobot army scattered. Grimlock took command of a small commando team, leading strikes against [[Cybertronian|Decepticon outposts]] across the galaxy. After encountering seventeen conquered worlds, cyberformed into "little Cybertrons", Grimlock realized the problem was greater than he had originally imagined, and contacts Optimus Prime. After comparing notes in an abandoned base, the Autobots were captured by [[Jhiaxus]]. While Optimus begins to despair after learning Jhiaxus' origins, Grimlock refuses to give up, bolstering the Autobot leader's spirits as they lead an escape from [[Twilight|Jhiaxus' flagship]].  {{storylink|War Without End!}}

Despite his loyalty to Autobot ways, Grimlock still chafed under Optimus' leadership. Disobeying his orders (which somehow still surprised Optimus), Grimlock led a raiding party against Jhiaxus, seeking to destroy the ''Twilight''. Unfortunately, the Dinobot failed to anticipated Jhiaxus' increased security measures, and the mission cost [[Red Alert (G1)|Red Alert]] and [[Mirage (G1)|Mirage]] their lives. Their deaths forced Grimlock to question his methods and his attitude toward Optimus Prime. He admitted that he envied Prime for the loyalty he inspired in the Autobots, and that this, not the leadership of the Autobots, was what he'd truly desired. Thus, no one was more surprised than Grimlock when Optimus Prime placed the Dinobot in command while he traveled back to Cybertron.  {{storylink|Devices and Desires}}

Grimlock's command status proved invaluable when Optimus met Megatron on Earth alone, intending to form an alliance against Jhiaxus. Megatron beat Optimus half to death and he only lived because Grimlock disobeyed orders and lead an Autobot brigade to Earth. When Megatron finally agreed to the alliance, Grimlock showed a great dislike for having to work with him, as well as the insults Megatron threw his way.

Eventually both the Empire attacked Autobase on Earth, with Grimlock gunning down scores of them. With the Empire came the Swarm, and with both Optimus and Megatron out of contact, it fell to Grimlock to organise the Transformers in a desperate defensive action. His plans caused the Autobots to hold out just long enough - bar a few casualties like his comrade Slag - for Megatron to arrive with the Rheanimanium that ensured their survival.

''(In the convention story [[Alignment]], which ties up plot threads from Generation 2, Grimlock sacrifices himself in the final battle against the [[Liege Maximo]]. (Despite being written by Simon Furman, this story was not approved by Hasbro and produced for an unofficial convention so the canonicity of this all is debatable.)''

''(Note: In the animated series, Grimlock was more dimwitted than in most other continuities. As the series progressed, he was portrayed increasingly as a comic relief character.)''

[[Image:Grimlockskywarp.jpg|left|thumb|Mmm. Taste like chicken.]]

Cartoon Grimlock, like all the cartoon Dinobots, has a stereotypical "caveman" type personality and intellect level. They originally decide to help the Autobots, for instance, because "them have face like this on chest..." Pre-movie this lack of intelligence is usually coupled together with their great power to make them dangerous wild cards; Post-movie, however, Grimlock and the Dinobots are generally played as just plain dumb for comic relief.

When mysterious tremors shook the [[Ark|Autobot base]], [[Wheeljack (G1)|Wheeljack]]'s investigation revealed strange objects behind a rock wall. After removing the wall, the Autobots found a cave full of dinosaur bones. The Autobots decided the idea of dinosaurs was interesting and researched the prehistoric beasts. Wheeljack and [[Ratchet (G1)|Ratchet]] asked Optimus Prime if they could build robot dinosaurs, and Prime agreed this was a good idea. Grimlock, [[Slag (G1)|Slag]], and [[Sludge (G1)|Sludge]] were built and unveiled to the Autobots, but the Dinobots were dimwitted and violent, and they attacked their makers. Grimlock blasted [[Teletraan I]] with his fire-breath, damaging it. Optimus Prime decreed that the Dinobots ''must be destroyed''. However, Wheeljack convinced him instead to lock them away, and the trio were herded back into the cave and buried alive.

Later, the Decepticons took over a hydroelectric plant, but when the Autobots arrived to stop them, the Autobots were defeated and captured.  Wheeljack, Ratchet, and [[Bumblebee (G1)|Bumblebee]], left behind at Autobot base to finish repairing Teletraan-I, decided to go against Optimus' orders and release the Dinobots, but not before upgrading their brains to be smarter and more obedient.  After the Dinobots are reactivated, Wheeljack asks them to save their friends.  Grimlock says he will obey... this time.  They successfully attack the Decepticons and free the imprisoned Autobots.  Optimus forgives Wheeljack, Ratchet, and Bumblebee for disobeying his orders and welcomes the victorious Dinobots back to the Autobots. {{storylink|S.O.S. Dinobots}}

After a meteor surging with unknown energies struck the Earth, Optimus ordered the three Dinobots to guard it. He was so pleased with the Dinobots he asked Ratchet and Wheeljack to build two more. Meanwhile, Megatron was frustrated at the Dinobots' success, and sent [[Soundwave (G1)|Soundwave]] to probe them for potential weaknesses. Reading the Dinobots' minds, he discovered that Grimlock was arrogant and believed he would make a better leader than the weak Optimus Prime. Megatron decided to use this to his advantage, and approached them himself. He played to Grimlock's jealousy and agreed with him that the strongest should be leader. The Dinobots declared Optimus Prime their enemy.

[[Image:Grimlockapologize.jpg|right|thumb|After we stop shaking hands, me Grimlock am going to eat him!!!!]]

Realizing the meteorite was due to explode, Optimus left to warn the Dinobots, but they attacked him.  Instead of destroying him completely, however, Grimlock carried him to the Decepticons, who had stolen the meteorite during the battle.  Megatron was angry that Optimus Prime was not destroyed, and Starscream suggested that despite Grimlock's arrogance, inside he was still compassionate(or as compassionate as Grimlock can get).  Grimlock didn't take this well, and blasted Starscream right in the chest.  They were interrupted by the two new Dinobots, [[Snarl (G1)|Snarl]] and [[Swoop (G1)|Swoop]], whom Megatron ordered the original three Dinobots to attack.    At the climax of the battle, the meteorite exploded, but Optimus Prime pushed Grimlock out of the way, saving him.  Grimlock realized the error of his ways and the Dinobots forced the Decepticons into retreat.  Grimlock apologized for his jealousy. {{storylink|War of the Dinobots}}

The Decepticons joined forces with [[Sub-Atlantica]] and staged a full-scale attack on [[Washington, D.C.]].  The Autobots were overwhelmed, forcing Wheeljack to call for the Dinobots' assistance.  Grimlock expressed his frustration at being called whenever the Autobots were in over their heads.  With their help, the Autobots were able to overturn the Decepticons' advance and plunge the city of Sub-Atlantica, burning, into the sea. {{storylink|Atlantis, Arise!}} This pattern of the Autobots' dependence on the Dinobots repeated when the artificial intelligence [[TORQ III]] turned machines against mankind. With every piece of help he and his troops gave, Grimlock was never slow to add a scathing remark about the inabilities of the Autobots. {{storylink|Day of the Machines}} That said, he was not unwilling to admit the failings of his own troops, either, and willingly took them to the time-displaced "Dinobot Island," where they trained in the wilderness and helped stop a Decepticon raid on the prehistoric paradise. {{storylink|Dinobot Island, Part 1}}

The final straw for Grimlock came when he and the Dinobots were injured in a Decepticon trap at an airfield. Enraged, Grimlock refused to take orders from Optimus Prime any more, and led the Dinobots away from the Ark. When the Autobots began to suffer from Cybertonium deficiency, Spike Witwicky and his girlfriend Carly attempted to persuade the Dinobots - who continued to function perfectly, as they had been built on Earth without Cybertonium - to steal some of the mineral from a Decepticon shipment coming in from Cybertron. Grimlock instead opted to lead the Dinobots to Cybertron itself, where they were captured by [[Shockwave (G1)|Shockwave]] and put to work in the Cybertonium mines, until Spike and Carly rescued them. Brought back to Earth, the Dinobots agreed to follow Prime's order again - until such time as Grimlock didn't feel like it. {{storylink|Desertion of the Dinobots, Part 2}}

After fleeing [[Galvatron (G1)|Galvatron]]'s attack on [[Autobot City]], the Dinobots, along with [[Kup]] and [[Hot Rod]], crashed on [[Quintessa]], and were separated from the two Autobots. During their search, the Dinobots met [[Wheelie]]. Grimlock initially didn't like the rhyming little robot, but eventually grew quite fond of him, letting him ride his back. Eventually, the Dinobots managed entered the execution room with all the grace they could muster, and Grimlock immediately declared his desire to munch metal. After saving Hot Rod and Kup from the [[Sharkticon]]s, a [[Quintesson]] judge ordered the Sharkticons to execute the Dinobots. Grimlock stompped his foot on the ground, and ordered the Sharkticons to execute the Quintessons. They complied with the Dinobot's order. Later, Grimlock did one of his greatest life-accomplishment by literally kicking the butt of [[Unicron|a deity]]. {{storylink|The Transformers: The Movie (1986)|TFTM}}

[[Image:GrimlockManga.jpg|right|200px|thumb|If he REALLY smart he know how stupid he look.]]

By the Earth year 2005, it seemed apparent that Grimlock had undergone some degree of a personality change, becoming more childish and petulant, rather than brutish and stubborn. Throughout 2006, he regularly participated in missions with his fellow Autobots rather than the other Dinobots, battling on the planets of [[Chaar]], Goo, Dredd and [[Eurhythma]]. He and [[Daniel Witwicky]] were transported to the sorcerous other-dimensional realm of Menonia, where Grimlock was duped into fighting on the side of the tyrannical [[Quintesson]], the Red Wizard, and later, he helped to sniff out the "dinosaur transform static" that implicated [[Trypticon]] in the theft of world monuments. Later in the year, when Decepticon leader [[Galvatron (G1)|Galvatron]] had Cybertron infused with function-inverting anti-electrons, a dose of the particles gave Grimlock super-intelligence. During a mission to [[Unicron]]'s disembodied head, where the Autobots were outmatched by the new Decepticon [[Terrorcon (G1)|Terrorcons]], Grimlock used components of Unicron's head to construct the [[Technobot|Technobots]] to battle them. Combined as Computron, the Technobots felt they could not match the Terrorcons, until Grimlock transferred his super-intelligence into Computron, reverting to his old self and allowing the Technobots to claim victory. {{storylink|Grimlock's New Brain}}

Grimlock's greatest victory came when he and a large number of other Transformers with animal transformations were summoned to a world at the centre of the galaxy by the ex-assistant of the ancient genius, [[Primacron]], creator of Unicron. The assistant had assembled these "[[Primitive]]" Transformers in the hope that their simple instincts could defeat Primacron's newest creation, [[Tornedron]], but one by one they fell to him, with Grimlock apparently crushed under [[Trypticon]]. Grimlock survived, however, and followed Tornedron back to Primacron's lab. When Tornedron turned on his master, like his predecessor, Primacron's complicated plans and equations could not find a way to stop him; Grimlock, on the other hand, randomly flicked a switch which reversed Tornedron's energy polarity, undoing the damage he had done and dissipating. Dancing around over his successful saving of the universe, Grimlock decimated Primacron's lab, dubbing it the smartest thing he'd ever done. {{storylink|Call of the Primitives}}

====Season 5====
Grimlock piloted the shuttle bringing [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]] to an important meeting<ref>The meeting was with [[Tommy Kennedy]] and its importance was debatable, but Prime was upset at being late.</ref>, and took a wrong turn, making Prime very late. Prime subsequently took him to have his brain circuits upgraded. <ref>From the 'Season 5' shell sequence retelling of TF:TM, part 4.</ref>

====The Headmasters====
In the year 2011, the Decepticons invaded Cybertron in full force. Grimlock was deployed by [[Wreck-Gar]] to fend off the invaders. He was seen fighting alongside his fellow Dinobots as well as the [[Throttlebot]]s against the invading Decepticons, however, they didn't fare too well against the Decepticon [[Headmaster]]s, as they were all quickly put to sleep by [[Mindwipe]]'s hypnosis attack.
[[Image:ScrollDinobots.jpg|left|200px|thumb|"Give me Grimlock purse!"]]

Grimlock, years ago, before the war, was part of a cage-fighting arena. He and [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream]] fought beside and against each other on numerous occasions. Starscream believed Grimlock was a natural born killer, but Grimlock really just carried alot of rage and anger and needed an outlet.

When the war began, Grimlock sided with the Decepticons. Then, after a while, he switched sides and went to the Autobots. Nobody is quite sure why or what happened.

By the time [[Sentinel Prime]] is killed and a new Prime must be chosen, Grimlock calls a secret meeting: If new Prime isn't up to doing what has to be done, then they'll do it for him - and take the Prime out in the process.

Optimus Prime, having defeated a team of Decepticons by himself, still didn't settle Grimlock's nerves. Prime's decision to evacuate Cybertron did it; Grimlock had enough. He left and went to brood by himself.

Starscream and his Seekers dropped by while Grimlock was alone. Starscream baited Grimlock, telling him he was a Decepticon inside and just was in denial. He gave him a choice: go to Sector Zero-Six and help the Seekers take out the Autobot command post, or warn them about their arrival.

Grimlock, out of spite, instead evacuated the Autobots from the base and planted a bomb, and a message: "Me not like Optimus Prime or Autobots that much...but me like you and yours even less!"

While he was on his way back to Iacon One to help with the defense, Prowl ordered him away, instead telling him to go find Optimus Prime. Grimlock decided that it was a good opportunity to give the new Prime a piece of his mind.

While he and the team went deep in Cybertron's core to find Prime, they found out about Megatron's plan; to win the war, and turn Cybertron into a mobile battlestation with which to conquer the universe. He split up the team - he would go find Optimus Prime, the rest of the team would shut down the transformation system for Cybertron.

To his surprise, Prime abruptly was standing next to him. Prime ordered Grimlock to help him find Megatron. Grimlock's response was clear: if Megatron is the problem, then fix it.

When the crisis was over, Grimlock no longer questioned Optimus Prime. He knew that Prime had figured things out, and though he didn't execute Megatron, he wasn't going to spend his time in the war running away.

Millenia later, on Earth, Megatron captured the other four Dinobots, a fact which he used as leverage to get Grimlock to turn traitor and join the Decepticons after they were reactivated by [[Lazarus]]. It didn't last very long, though, as [[Shockwave (G1)|Shockwave]] soon showed up and hauled Megatron off to Cybertron, prompting Grimlock to rejoin the Autobots and then free the other Dinobots.

Grimlock was among the [[Axalon (BW)|Axalon]]'s protoforms when the ship crashed on Earth. When [[Razorbeast]] and [[Optimus Minor]] were attempting to "rescue" [[Megatron (BW)|Megatron]] from [[Magmatron]], the Predacons detected a spark signature that was apparently off the scale, big and mad. Grimlock showed up and acted as the perfect distraction, making ''very'' short work of the Predacons (apparently he was in a very bad mood after waking up and took it out on the Preds). Magmatron offered Grimlock the chance to withdraw, and when the incredulous Grimlock refused, the Predacon general attacked. Magmatron narrowly arose as the victor by use of his triple beast modes. Grimlock was knocked out, but later helped to construct the [[Maximal]]'s new base. {{Storylink|The Gathering, Part 4}}

Later, when [[Prowl (Transmetal)|Prowl]] remarked they had work to do on Earth, with [[Ravage]]'s Predacon militia still a threat, [[Wolfang]] reminded him that they had Grimlock on their side. {{Storylink|The Ascending, Part 1}}

===IDW comics continuity===
Grimlock and the rest of the D'''y'''nobots were a close-knit group of hunters, suffering from neither low intelligence nor Grimlock's traditional speech impairment.

{{spoiler}}

At the start of Megatron's rise to power the Dynobots turned out to an open casting call for Megatron's underground Gladatorial games. It turned out to be a recruitment drive for the Decepticon army. What they thought of that is unknown as Autobot security forces raided the party soon after.

After [[Shockwave (G1)|Shockwave]] destroyed a cache of Energon the Dynobots had been hoarding, causing them severe Energon burns and equally severe humiliation, they swore revenge. So, against orders from Optimus Prime, they followed Shockwave when he left Cybertron to stabilize "Ultra-Energon" deposits he had sent to other worlds as a precaution against the depletion of Cybertron's own Energon reserves.

When Shockwave reached his first destination - Earth, at the end of the last Ice Age - the Dynobots destroyed his ship, but Slag revealed that the high energon levels of the planet would put them in stasis lock, since they hadn't come prepared like Shockwave. Slag then came up with the idea that they should scan the local life forms and create alt-modes based on those animals, but with synthetic flesh coatings to protect against the high levels of energon radiation. Grimlock was completely against the idea, but since Slag couldn't come up with something better, he relented. However, he refused to take on the form of the weak mammalians that dominated the planet, demanding "Something with some...bite." Scanning fossil deposits, Slag found the remains of some extinct reptilian animals and brought up a holographic representation of one to see if Grimlock approved. What popped up was a Tyrannosaurus Rex, which Grimlock seemed to fall in love with the moment he saw it. The choice made, Grimlock took the Tyrannosaur as his altmode and had Slag find more dinosaurs as templates for the rest of the Dynobots.

On transporting down to the planet's surface to confront Shockwave, they gained an initial advantage, as Shockwave's logic was unable to comprehend the effort and risks they had taken for their revenge. However, when Shockwave recognized this weakness, shut down his logic processors and operated a "rage" program to enable him to operate on pure instinct, he shrugged off their attacks and beat them severely, ending the assault by burning off their organic coatings. Unable to accept another defeat, Grimlock transformed to robot mode and fought against his imminent [[stasis lock]] to no avail.

However, before leaving the Dynobots' ship, he had enabled a "dead man's switch" designed to take Shockwave with them if they were defeated. When he entered stasis lock, this failsafe activated, firing on a nearby dormant volcano and causing an eruption which buried Shockwave and the Dynobots under ash and lava.

However, in 2006, Shockwave was discovered by a team of human archeologists. Whether he, Grimlock or the rest of the Dynobots can/will be reactivated remains to be seen.
When [[Hasbro]] imported the toy in 1985 for the ''Transformers'' line, the blue crotch was changed to red and the Diaclone driver mini-figure was dropped.

:The original Grimlock changes from a robot into a robotic T-Rex and comes with a red sword, a black double-barreled rifle, and a rocket launcher with three silver rockets.

: Grimlock was later reissued in the European/Australian-exclusive "[[Classics (Euro)|Classics]]" series. In Japan, he and the other four Dinobots were offered as mail-away items during [[Operation Combination]]; Grimlock cost 2300 yen (his original retail price) and 2 [[robot points]].
He was available in three different colors; the first --and rarest-- in his original silver (the easiest way to spot if this is a G2 or original is by the "Autobot" tampograph on his leg), then in a medium turquoise-blue, and finally (and most commonly) in a dark blue.
His engine transforms into a double-barreled gun, and he also carries an orange sword which can attach to the underside of his vehicle mode. The toy is one of the most-complained-about Alternators toys, due to its notoriously finicky transformation (with many small steps that must be performed in exactly the right order) and to several pieces which have a tendency to pop off with relatively small amounts of force.

: ''Classics'' Grimlock, a gray and gold ''Tyrannosaurus rex'', is a reimagined form of his original toy. His dinosaur mode's sculpt is based heavily upon [[TakaraTomy]]'s Zoids Genosaurer toy, although for Grimlock the Zoids Tyrannosaurus toy Berserk Führer might have been more apropos. It features articulated jaws, some neck and arm movement, posable legs, a segmented, articulated tail, and is notably designed to run rather than drag (theories on the T-Rex having changed from "caveman adversary" to "Carl Lewis in Lizard Skin" since the G1 incarnation).

:In robot mode, his tail detaches to become a sword/whip, similar to his Pretender Classic toy. Also, his bayonet blaster bears a similarity to his Pretender toy's.[http://images.wikia.com/transformers/images/c/c4/Grimlock_gun_prt_clsc.JPG] His bayonet blaster can be deployed in either mode, and fires a clear red projectile. Both weapons can be stored on his back when not used. As with most ''Classics'' toys, Grimlock features a heat-sensitive [[rubsign]], placed on the left side of the tyrannosaurus torso/his left leg.

:A common complaint about the figure is the size of the peg being too small in relation to the peg-hole, making it impossible to lock the arms into place. In addition, the bayonet blaster has a hair-trigger.
However, it was ultimately shunted into Energon, reportedly for a combination of budgetary concerns and keeping the combination gimmick (since he combines with the packed-in Swoop to form a super robot) only in the main-line, which had combination as a central theme.
* A working name for the [[Alternators]] Ford Mustang mold which ultimately ended up as Grimlock was "[[Freeway]]", according to various early store listings.

'''Unicron''' is the eternal arch-enemy of his twin brother [[Primus]]. He is known as the Dark God, the Chaos Bringer, the Planet Eater, and he is dedicated to consuming the multiverse. His goal is to bring an end to the annoying creation boasting independence around him, and find peace by becoming the living center of a swirling, infinite torrent of nothingness at the end of all things.

To undertake this seemingly overwhelming task, Unicron is able to travel across realities at will, a meandering plague upon existence itself. <ref>Titanium Series 3" Unicron profile</ref> Integrated into his systems are incomprehensible quantum computers which calculate probabilities forward and backwards in time, in perpetuity, giving his processors an everchanging, evolving map of the multiverse.<ref>Profile, Transformers Fan Club newsletter, Aug/Sept 06</ref>

The only thing that he fears is Primus's essence, contained inside the [[Matrix of Leadership]].

Frequently, Unicron will make deals with lesser beings, giving them vast new powers in exchange for their servitude. These minions are sometimes stripped entirely of their free will, but others follow him willingly. No matter their intent, Unicron's plans ultimately call for their consumption as well.

==In the beginning==

[[Image:Unicron_original.jpg|thumb|left|Behold! My +1 Mace!]]

Before the dawn of time, Order and Chaos existed within an extradimensional entity known as the [[One]]. He created twin astral beings to reign over the cosmos: Primus and Unicron. Their nature differed, as Primus's lifeforce (aka the [[Allspark]]) was a multiversal singularity; existing across all Transformers realities at once (see note below), whereas Unicron existed in only one dimension at a time but could travel relatively freely between them. Primus was the Lord of Light and Order, and Unicron, the Lord of Darkness and Chaos. Unicron sought to devour everything that exists and become one with [[The Void]] at the end of all things.

''Many places in the multiverse, the true history of The One has been obscured by a myth stating that Unicron was one of the [[Lords of Chaos]] from the previous universe and has no intrinsic connection to Primus.

[[Image:Primusoriginal.jpg|thumb|right|"No, [[Frenzy (G1)|Frenzy]] is ''[[RIBFIR|red]]''!"]]

In combat, Primus was no match for Unicron. But Primus did manage to trap both his and Unicron's essences inside metallic planetoids. Over time, they learned to shape these prisons. Unicron formed his into [[Scale|a planet]] able to not only devour all in its path, but also capable of Transforming into a likeness of his old self. Primus, meanwhile became the mechanical planet of [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]]. Knowing that his ancient enemy still lived, Primus created the [[13 original Transformers]] from the material of the newly created planet. To the very first of these 13, named [[Prima]], Primus bestowed the [[Matrix of Leadership|Matrix]], containing his essence. These Transformers would, in time, grow strong in number, knowledge, and power, and be able to defeat Unicron.

==War of the balance==

The first conflict between Primus and Unicron occurred shortly after the creation of the first 13 Transformers. One of the original 13, who would ever afterwards be known as the [[Fallen]], betrayed Primus and became an acolyte of Unicron. Many of the first 13 were destroyed in this great battle before Unicron and the Fallen were sucked into a [[black hole]] and sealed away in a extra-dimensional limbo.

The two brothers shared a mental link. So long as Primus hid himself in slumber, so did Unicron also sleep. Their war ended, for a time, in stalemate.

[[Image:Primalscream.jpg|left|thumb|ZARDOZ HAS SPOKEN]]

Eventually, in one version of Generation 1 continuity [[Grimlock (G1)|Grimlock]], [[Jazz]], and [[Bumblebee (G1)|Bumblebee]] found themselves transported to the center of [[Cybertron_(planet)|Cybertron]]. In a battle with [[Bludgeon (G1)|Bludgeon]]'s [[Pretender]]s, a laser blast ricocheted off Grimlock and struck the essence of the sleeping Primus, causing a multiverse-shaking Primal Scream that woke Unicron and alerted him to Primus's location.

The battle between Primus and Unicron began anew. Though Unicron would sometimes be defeated, this is always temporary, and there is a whole multiverse of realities to consume. When Unicron is destroyed in one reality, he will travel to another, ready to eat again. Primus will always be waiting, hoping to incapacitate Unicron and preserve existence.

It has been suggested that both of them are, in fact, necessary for the multiverse to exist in stability.

==Evolution of the Primus/Unicron myth ==

The Primus/Unicron backstory has evolved and been rewritten a good number of times since it first originated in the Marvel Comics. The version above is the current iteration, which has slowly solidified across a wide swath of media beginning around the time of [[Armada]]. Before the Primus/Unicron mythos reached its present form it went through several distinct versions in the Marvel G1 Comics and elsewhere.

===Unicron's story===
The first time we ever heard the Primus/Unicron backstory it in the UK comic continuity, from Unicron himself. After his destruction during the events of ''[[The Transformers: The Movie]]'', his head floated through space and crashed on the planet [[Junkion (planet)|Junk]]. There, he enslaved the inhabitants to recreate his old body from their world. When the bount-um... freelance peacekeeping agent [[Death's Head]] challenged him on the astral plane, Unicron shared the story of his origin thusly:

At the dawn of the universe, when Unicron was a primal force of evil, the only one who could stand against him and his [[Dark Armies]] was Primus, Lord of the [[Light Gods]]. (Note the plural.) Primus and his fellow Light Gods stood against Unicron and his Dark Armies. Events then played out roughly as described above.

''(The role of the other Light Gods and Unicron's armies would diminish with each retelling of the story, until the current version where they are alone and have a unique origin. Only one of the other Light Gods was ever named: the [[Chronarchitect]].)''

===The Keeper's story===
The second time the story was told was in the US book by the [[Keeper]], an ancient mechanoid who guarded Primus's head at the center of Cybertron. This telling mentions that their battle was towards the end of the era of Gods and that Primus and Unicron were the last of their respective pantheons. But Primus had to defeat Unicron before he could take his place with the other gods in the "[[Omniversal Matrix]]".

===Primus's story===
The third time the story was told was by Primus when he gathered all his children together to prepare for Unicron's coming. Here we learn for the first time that Unicron predated the current universe. Unicron had destroyed the previous universe and then slept peacefully, alone with the void. But he had not been thorough enough and some bits of the "old realms" survived. They reacted and caused the Big Bang. The sentient core of this new universe recognized the threat of Unicron and so created Primus to be his counterpart and guardian of the new creation.

===DK's story===
The first modern retelling of their origin in the DK Transformers: Ultimate Guide (which tended to focus on the then current Dreamwave continuity) added a new twist with the "One" a self-contained being of balanced order and chaos. He was curious and so created Unicron to explore the new-born universe for him. Then he sub-divided Unicron and created Primus out of him. As Primus achieved consciousness he realized Unicron had become corrupted and was now a force for chaos. Primus thus took on the role of champion of order and creation to balance things and protect existence from Unicron.

''(Primus did not exist in the Generation 1 cartoon. There, Cybertron's oldest revealed status was as a factory world of the [[Quintesson]]s who invented the Transformers, and Unicron was a product of the strange, sad little alien [[Primacron]]. This causes some trouble with the later retcon that Primus is a "multiversal singularity" and part of all Transformers universes, though [[Wreckers #3]] did attempt to retcon the Primus mythology into the Quintesson-creation backstory of the original cartoon. [[Simon Furman]] has also stated that he may specifically exclude Primus and Unicron from the IDW comic universe as well, which might be seen as retconning out the previous retcon and rendering Primus as being once again a feature of only "some" Transformer continuities.)''

==Fiction==

===Generation 1===
====Marvel Comics====
''(Note: The recent Primus/Unicron mythology push in the Fun Publications ''Cybertron'' comics places the Marvel Comics story first chronologically among Unicron's history of appearances.)''

After the Primal Scream, Unicron headed directly towards Cybertron. He created three [[Heralds]] to send ahead of him and prepare the Transformers for his arrival: [[Hook, Line, and Sinker]]. He also borrowed a version of Galvatron from another dimension's future in which he was successful in devouring Cybertron.

[[Image:Acolyte_of_unicron.jpg|thumb|100px|right|A Unicron cultist with mask. Or a cosplayer. Same thing.]]

Unicron placed a mental command in some Transformers, generating a cult of Autobots and Decepticons. His worshipers gathered to attack the leader of the two united factions, which had gathered on Cybertron when they sensed Unicron drawing near. Their assassination attempt was defeated with the help of Galvatron, Unicron's wayward herald.

Unicron was so unimaginably large that the sight of him froze both Transformer factions into inaction. Unicron, disappointed that victory was this simple, tore apart the planet's surface. It was only the actions of the kidnapped Galvatron that snapped the Transformers out of their collective terror. Even the united Transformers were unable to hold Unicron off. After being fazed by the [[Neo-Knights|Neo-Knight]] [[Rapture]] and temporarily shorted out by [[Circuit Breaker]], it was [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]] who flew towards Unicron and opened the Matrix. The life contained inside caused Unicron to explode. ''(That Circuit Breaker could affect Unicron at all suggests that despite the Dark God's nature and history, his body (at least this one) is ultimately 'standard' technology, albeit of a very powerful nature.)''

''In the timeline of [[Earth-120185]], rather than attack Cybertron in 1990, Unicron made his appearance in 2006.  Destroyed by the power of the Matrix, his head crash-landed on the planet [[Junkion (planet)|Junkion]], where he used mind control to force the native [[Junkion]]s to build him a new body out of the planet of Junk.  At the beginning of 2008, he pulled [[Cyclonus (G1)|Cyclonus]], [[Scourge (G1)|Scourge]] and [[Death's Head]] into his thrall and used them to re-ignite the stalemated Cybertronian war in order to keep the Autobots distracted from his activities. Ultimately, however, he was defeated by Death's Head and the Autobots.  His head was destroyed, and his mind was sealed within the Matrix. {{storylink|The Legacy of Unicron!}}

[[Image:MarvelUK-253.jpg|thumb|150px|left|Wow, he sure fears the Matrix...]]

''On New Year's Day 2009, after the alteration of the timeline, he reached out from within the Matrix and took control of [[Rodimus Prime]]'s body, {{storylink|Edge of Impact}} only to be stopped when [[Kup]] ripped the talisman out of his chest. Unfortunately, this meant they lost their chance to purify the Matrix and that Unicron would be ready for them next time. {{storyline|White Fire}}In 2010, he repeated the trick and succeeded in transforming Rodimus's body into a copy of his own before being forced back. In the far future of 2356, Unicron's essence still resides within the Matrix, steadily withering the struggling body of Rodimus.'' {{storylink|Aspects of Evil!}}

''In at least [[Rhythms of Darkness|one further tangential timeline]], Unicron actually succeeded in consuming Cybertron in 2006 and allowed Galvatron to rule [[Earth]].''

====The Transformers: The Movie====
:''Voice actor:'' ''[[Orson Welles]] (US), [[Mizuho Suzuki]] (Japan)''

[[Image:Unicronplanet.jpg|right|thumb|I see you down there]]

In his first documented appearance, Unicron was known as a [[Scale|giant Transformer]] which devoured everything in his path. After the Battle of Autobot City, [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]] and several heavily damaged Decepticons (the [[Insecticon (G1)|Insecticons]] as well as [[Skywarp (G1)|Skywarp]] and [[Thundercracker (G1)|Thundercracker]]) were abandoned in space. Unicron reformatted Megatron into [[Galvatron (G1)|Galvatron]] and out of the damaged Decepticons, he created [[Cyclonus (G1)|Cyclonus]], [[Scourge (G1)|Scourge]], and Scourge's [[Sweeps]]. He ordered them to destroy the Autobot Matrix Of Leadership.

Galvatron returned with the Matrix, but intended to use it to make Unicron his slave. Unicron ate him. Having already eaten two of Cybertron's [[Moonbase One|moons]], Unicron attacked Cybertron. [[Shockwave]] and the rest of the Decepticons, at the time in control of Cybertron, fought back, but this had little effect. Unicron swallowed many spaceships, and one, which contained the young Autobot [[Hot Rod]] and his comrades, crashed through Unicron's eye. Hot Rod and Galvatron battled deep inside Unicron. Ultimately, Hot Rod was able to retake the Matrix, change into Rodimus Prime, defeat Galvatron, and use the Matrix to destroy Unicron. Unicron's body exploded, though its head remained somewhat intact and orbited Cybertron.

====Generation 1 animated series====
:''Voice actor:'' ''[[Roger C. Carmel]] (US)'', ''[[Toshirō Ishii]] (Japan)''

[[Image:Primacron.jpg|left|thumb|Primacron, the one responsible for Unicron's construction. Thanks ''so much'', Primacron.]]

It was revealed to the [[Primitive]]s by [[Oracle (G1)|the Oracle]] that Unicron was created near the beginning of time by an ancient genius called [[Primacron]], to destroy the universe so he could remake it in his own image. But Unicron decided that he would be the one to rule the universe, not Primacron, and rebelled against his creator, wrecking Primacron's lab, destroying his assistant's body and leaving Primacron himself "broken but alive".  Unicron then left, voyaging out into the vast expanse of space. {{storylink|Call of the Primitives}}

[[Image:Unicron_head_orbit.jpg|right|thumb|Incoming message from the [[Grand Mal|Big, Giant Head]]!]]

His eventual destruction was not the last the Transformers saw of Unicron; the ghost of [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream]] reactivated his severed head and entered into a bargain with Unicron, performing three labours in exchange for the restoration of his body. Starscream and Scourge gathered for Unicron [[Metroplex (G1)|Metroplex]]'s eyes (breaking one and replacing it with one from [[Trypticon]]) and Trypticon's [[Transformation Cog]], and then connected his head to Cybertron, which would become Unicron's new body. Starscream demanded that Unicron restore his body so that he could complete the connection; but once Unicron had done so, Starscream double-crossed him and refused to finish the job. Unicron's head was subsequently blown off into space by an explosion instigated by the Autobots.{{storylink|Ghost in the Machine}}

Later, when searching for a new supply of anti-electrons, the Decepticons ventured to Unicron's head, where Cyclonus and Scourge accidentally awoke the slumbering demi-god. At the same time, Grimlock, who had gained super-intelligence through an infusion of anti-electrons, had constructed the [[Technobot]]s from pieces of Unicron's head, and one of their number, [[Strafe]], severed enough of Unicron's neural connections to shut him back down.

Unlike the comics portrayal, Unicron is shown to be a large transforming machine and not a godlike being.

===Beast era===
====Omega Point====
[[Image:Unicrons_dark_essence.jpg|thumb|left|Even Unicron's crud is evil.]]
Following his destruction in 2006, Unicron's severed lifeforce was displaced in time to Earth's distant past, prior to the Beast Wars. It rested in the pit caused by its own impact, quiescent for many millennia, until found by a Predacon known as the Hunter around the Machine Era.

Taking the name [[Shokaract]], he used this Dark Essence to conquer, ruling over an apocalyptic 32nd Century future.

Due to severe time-travel mischief, the events leading up to Shokaracts's timeline were averted when the Dark Essence fled Earth from the Beast Wars.
{{-}}

====Dark Essence====
[[Image:Matrix_of_conquest.jpg|thumb|right|The Evil Galactic Starfish of Conquest served as a container for Unicron’s power.]]
The Dark Essence possessed only rudimentary intelligence, lacking the full force of Unicron's personality. It appears Unicron's Spark remained with his severed head (which has a back-up spark chamber) in 2005, while his power was displaced in time.

Is it unclear if this displacement was accidental, or represents an attempt by Unicron to preserve his power.

Shokaract contained the Dark Essence within a [[Matrix of Conquest]] from which he drew his powers. This is very similar to the relationship between Primus and the [[Matrix of Leadership]], where the Matrix holds the majority of his power, leaving Primus himself weak. The Matrix of Conquest appears to be unique to Shokaract's timeline branch, and would not exist outside of it.

====Beast Wars II and Neo====
'''Voice actor:''' ''[[Tetsuo Komura]] (Japan)''
[[Image:BWNeo Unicron.JPG|thumb|left|Unicron didn't take kindly to being part of the Macy's Parade.]]
After Rodimus Prime opened the Matrix in Unicron, Unicron's lifeforce (the green energy seen exploding from his body) raced across time and space until it landed on the distant world of [[Gaia]], riddling itself into the planet's surface. His lifeforce caused many strange phenomenon all over the planet, and was eventually dubbed [[Angolmois]] energy.

It proved to be a powerful energy source, leaving [[Galvatron (BWII)|Galvatron]] to attempt to harvest the energy for himself. Using his massive spacecraft, the [[Nemesis (BWII)|Nemesis]], he sucked all the the Angolmois energy out of the planet and into the craft. However, after the interference of [[Lio Convoy]] and [[Lio Junior]], all the Angolmois energy was sealed into capsules and ejected from the Nemesis as it self-destructed.

[[Big Convoy]] and [[Magmatron]] then raced to collect the Angolmois capsules, as their energy effects were wreaking havoc on planets all over the galaxy. They eventually collected all the capsules only to find themselves attacked by the mysterious and freakish [[Blentron]]s. The Blentrons proved nearly invincible, and stole the capsules from each team. They released the Angolmois energy and allowed it to possess Galvatron's dead body. Unicron was reborn once more.

Unicron then absorbed the last remaining ounce of stray Angolmois energy, the Blentrons, and left to settle his score with Cybertron. The [[Maximal Elder]], [[Great Convoy]], attempted to hold Unicron off with the entire Maximal armada, but Unicron's fiery serpent mode proved too much and he effortlessly destroyed the armada and Great Convoy along with it. Unicron then possessed [[Vector Sigma]], the mother computer of [[Cybertron]], effectively possessing the planet. He then morphed the planet into his new body, fulfilling the goal he originally attempted back in 2006 (or 2010, since this is Japanese continuity).

Unicron then briefly exited Vector Sigma to deal with the last remaining Cybertronian resistance. Big Convoy, his Maximal new recruits, Lio Convoy and Magmatron all fought side-by-side against Unicron, but all they managed to do was stall him. Big Convoy then powered up his Big Cannon with his own [[Energon Matrix|Matrix]], transforming it into the Matrix Buster. Big Convoy shot Unicron with the weapon, the powerful blast seemingly destroying the Chaos Bringer. Unicron's spirit was then evicted from Vector Sigma, returning Cybertron to normal.

====Universe====

[[Image:UnicronDeathstarII.jpg|thumb|right|You can't take the Wreckers anywhere.]]After an unspecified conflict during the [[Beast Era]], Unicron floated in ruin. Using what energies he had left, he called Transformers from various corners of the multiverse inside him to do battle. He feasted upon the sparks of the losers, growing ever more powerful. Primus countered this by calling his own army from the multiverse, led by [[Optimus Primal]]. Primal was able to set free the captives inside Unicron and begin a new war between the [[Minions of Unicron]] and the [[Children of Primus]].

''(This war was ended abruptly when, during the final battle, Unicron disappeared from their reality underneath them, sucked away into the [[Unicron Singularity]] in another timestream. See [[#Cybertron|Cybertron]].)''

===Unicron Trilogy===
The [[Unicron Trilogy]], the series of Transformers franchises that includes [[Armada|Armada]], [[Energon (franchise)|Energon]], and [[Cybertron (franchise)|Cybertron]], was so named by Hasbro designer [[Aaron Archer]] because of Unicron's importance in each story.

====Dreamwave Comics continuity====

[[Image:Unicronarmada.jpg|thumb|left|For a time... I considered sparing your invisible sandwich.]]

=====Armada=====

Unicron sent forth heralds to prepare the Armadaverse for his arrival after having devoured the Cybertron of a previously unseen dimension. His heralds included versions of [[Bludgeon (G1)|Bludgeon]], [[Dirge (G1)|Dirge]], [[Galvatron (G1)|Galvatron]], [[Scourge (G1)|Scourge]], and [[Thunderwing (G1)|Thunderwing]].

He also sent the Autobots the near-death [[Optimus Prime (Worlds Collide)|Optimus Prime]] of that other dimension as a forewarning.

Unicron was ultimately defeated by [[Optimus Prime (Armada)|Jet Optimus]], the combined form of the Armadaverse's Optimus Prime and [[Jetfire (Armada)|Jetfire]], who were infused with extra Mini-Con power. However, he had managed to kidnap [[Airazor (Armada)|Airazor]], [[Cheetor (Armada)|Cheetor]], [[Rhinox (Armada)|Rhinox]] and [[Terrorsaur (Armada)|Terrorsaur]], and would see them forged into new heralds in the interim.

=====Energon=====

[[Alpha Quintesson]] and the [[Terrorcon (Energon)|Terrorcon]]s try to revive Unicron.

''(Note: Due to the sudden demise of [[Dreamwave]], the results of this attempt remain unknown. Presumably, since you are alive and reading this, Unicron did not go on to consume the Omniverse.)''
:''Voice Actor:'' ''[[Mark Acheson]] (US), [[Katsumi Chō]] (Japan), [[Matthew King]] (US PS2 Game)''

Disguised as Cybertron's moon, Unicron created the race of small robots known as the [[Mini-Cons]] to increase the ferocity of the Autobot/Decepticon war. When conflict exists, Unicron can feed off the energies released.

When the Mini-Cons found their way to Earth, they were followed by the Autobots and Decepticons. Unicron dispatched his minion [[Sideways]], a mysterious agent that served as the vessel for Unicron's spark in this reality, to carry on his work. Sideways escalated the conflict by manipulating control of the three Mini-Cons weapons; the [[Star Saber (Armada)|Star Saber]], the [[Skyboom]] shield and the [[Requiem Blaster]]. These weapons were the three keys that were needed to awaken Unicron.

[[Image:ArmadaUnicron02.jpg|thumb|right|200px|The Power Cosmic gives you wrinkles.]]

As Unicron turned on Cybertron, the Mini-Cons broke free of his control and deactivated him, but when [[Megatron (Armada)|Galvatron]] then began his final battle with [[Optimus Prime (Armada)|Optimus Prime]], the hatred and ferocity of the fight awoke Unicron once more.

To end the circle of hate that gave Unicron life, Galvatron allowed himself to be consumed by the monster, and in a brilliant flash of light, Unicron apparently ceased to exist.

=====Energon=====
:''Voice Actor:'' ''[[David Kaye]], [[Mark Acheson]](US), ??? (Japan)''

[[Image:Energon Unicron.jpg|thumb|left|Unicron sported awesome colors during ''Energon''.]]
Unbeknownst to the Autobot heroes, Unicron's body had fallen into a state of decay. Operating at low, almost undetectable energy levels, Unicron was rotting away in what was called the "Graveyard of the Universe". A spark from the past would be enough to change all of this. Alpha-Q, a Terrorcon-related alien being from a far away world, Planet Q, would awaken within the dying giant and discover that Unicron's cells had the ability to restore life, just as it did to create the mini-cons eons before.

Alpha-Q, having had his own homeworld detonated and consumed by Unicron in the past, sought to restore Unicron enough to manipulate his body into restoring the world and galaxy that he lost. Alpha-Q used the cells to restore himself to a suit of armor, as well as create Sparkless drones of his former race to carry out his deed: collect energon. As energon was collected, Unicron grew stronger.

However, Megatron's corpse and spark remained within Unicron, and he slowly siphoned off some of the gathered Energon, allowing him to be reborn in his own new body. Alpha Q jettisoned Unicron's head and escaped in it, while Megatron took over Unicron's body, and continued to gather Energon in order to rebuild Unicron to use as his ultimate weapon. As the climax of this plan neared, a joint attack by Alpha Q, the Autobots and their human allies saw all of Earth's Energon channeled into Unicron's head, which Alpha Q then rammed into Unicron's body.

The positively-charged Energon of Earth reacted with the negatively-charged Energon running through Unicron, tearing open a fissure in reality leading to a new area of space where planets Unicron consumed were recreated, and sustained through the Energon radiated from Unicron's head, which had now become a glowing red sun.

[[Image:Unicron_eats_blizzard.jpg|right|thumb|Unicron should stop eating so many Blizzards.]]
Unicron's body, damaged once more, lay in the dark reaches near the fissure, and the Decepticons began to raid Alpha Q's new planets for the Energon necessary to revive Unicron again. This time, they succeeded, and Megatron directed Unicron's body to retrieve his head, extinguishing the Energon Sun and killing Alpha Q in the process. But the power of Unicron proved too much for Megatron to control, as Unicron began to take over Megatron's body. In the ensuing battle between Unicron and the super-powered Optimus Supreme, Unicron's body was successfully destroyed.

But unbeknownst to anyone, he lived on in two forms: his miniscule Spark, and his consciousness, which lay buried in Megatron's mind. With quiet, subconscious nudging, Unicron led Megatron to a massive reservoir of "[[Super Energon]]" beneath Cybertron's surface, which transformed him into Galvatron upon his first exposure.

After a series of failed battles, Galvatron proceeded to expose himself to the Super Energon once again, and this time grew to a gigantic height. Unicron seized control of his body again for a new vessel and set out to rejoin with his Spark, but a Primus-empowered Optimus Supreme engaged him in battle once more, and drew all of Unicron's consciousness out of Galvatron and sealed it within his own Spark.

Enraged, Galvatron prepared to destroy Unicron's Spark, but it merged with him, enlarging him again, leading to another battle with Optimus Supreme, this time bolstered by the combined energy of all his troops' Sparks. Meanwhile, Primus merged with the Super Energon, creating a foundling sun which arrived at the site of the battle. Taking control of his body for a brief moment, Galvatron made the decision to plunge himself into the infant sun to rid himself of Unicron's posession. The super energon mass, having now recieved Unicron's spark, ignited into a powerful red sun which gave new life to Alpha Q's worlds.

=====Cybertron=====

[[Image:Unicroncybertron.jpg|thumb|left|The Planet-Eater's back, and you're gonna be in trouble...]]
Primus's plan to trap Unicron in the heart of a new sun failed, and instead resulted in a [[Unicron Singularity|black hole]] (or Unicron Singularity) that threatened the multiverse. His heralds [[Ramjet (Universe)|Ramjet]] and [[Nemesis Prime (Universe)|Nemesis Prime]] travelled to Cybertron to unleash the [[Dead Matrix]] upon Primus's vulnerable essence.

Vector Prime was able to defeat Ramjet and send him into the black hole in which Unicron was trapped, while [[Sentinel Maximus]] with the help of [[Omega Prime]] was able to stop Nemesis Prime from unleashing the power of the [[Dead Matrix]] on Primus. However, [[Soundwave (Cybertron)|Soundwave]] and [[Laserbeak (Cybertron)|Laserbeak]] were able to retrieve the Dead Matrix, and they brought it to Unicron Singularity's Event Horizon. With some adjustments, the Dead Matrix was able to extract Unicron's spark from the black hole, looking much the way it did when it took over Galvatron at the end of Energon, and, after the lifeforce consumed the planet [[Yst]], the Dark God exploded from the remains reborn.

During the time that followed, from behind the scenes Unicron orchestrated a civil war between the Mini-Cons stationed on Cybertron's moons.  {{storylink|Revelations, Part 4}} When Sentinel Maximus led a team of Autobots to stamp out the escalating conflict, Unicron's involvement was revealed.  Before he could achieve victory, Primus was reawakened, and the Dark God fled as Cybertron transformed into its robot mode.  {{storylink|Revelations, Part 6}}
===Armada===
[[Image:Unicrontoyarmada.jpg|right|thumb|250px|And the fandom rejoiced (and complained).]]

*'''Unicron with Mini-Con Dead End''' (Supreme, 2003)
: ''Japanese ID number:'' '''MX-00'''

: Unicron from the [[Armada (toyline)|''Armada'' toyline]] is an orange and transparent purple Supreme-size toy that transforms into a planet. It features many Mini-Con [[Powerlinx]] plugs on the planet's rings, and "chomping" jaws activated by moving the mandibles. The packed-in Mini-Con [[Dead End (Armada)|Dead End]] in moon-mode plugs into a specially-shaped socket on Unicron's planet form, just above his gaping maw. Powerlinx plugs on his sides activate the triple spring-loaded missile launchers, which end up on his robot mode legs. In robot mode, he has hidden compartments for Mini-Cons in his robot-mode legs and abdomen. One Powerlinx plug on the back of the robot mode activates blinking eye lights and a cannon that bursts from the chest and shoots a missile. A button on the top of the head also activates the blinking eye lights. Pushing his right hand back slightly into the cuff causes it to light up.

: This toy is notable for being the first "modern" Transformers release in the main line at the $50-price point. Due to his success, other releases like ''Energon'' [[Omega Supreme (Energon)|Omega Supreme]] came into being.

: The [[Takara]] release of Unicron uses a lighter orange, slightly more transparent plastic, and different paint applications than the [[Hasbro]] version.

: This mold was used to make the [[Unicron of Light|Mini-Con doppelganger of Unicron]].

===Energon===
[[Image:Energon_Unicron_toy.jpg|left|thumb|This is worth more to somebody outside of Japan if it was bought inside Japan.]]

*'''Unicron''' (Supreme, 2004)

: Unicron's ''Armada'' toy was [[redeco]]ed for the [[Energon (toyline)|''Energon'' toyline]], sporting black and transparent orange, with "Energon damage" patterns, representing his shattered and damaged form. All of the gimmicks from the previous version are intact in this one.

: The ''Energon'' packaging shipped with either the orange ''Armada'' Unicron or the black ''Energon'' Unicron inside in early shipments.

*'''Unicron''' (Fast Food Premium, 2004)

: Availble in one of two differnt European-market McDonald's Happy Meal promotions, this Unicron toy is based on ''Energon'' Unicron, being primarily black. It is very small, and the transformation consists of simply opening the planet mode to reveal the robot.

: When his Energon cube is clicked into position, and his button pressed, his body lights up.

===Cybertron===
[[Image:Cybertron_Unicron_toy.jpg|left|thumb|180px|I SHALL EAT YOUR PLANET-but first I must speedwalk over to you!]]

*'''Unicron''' (Deluxe, 2006)

: Unicron in the [[Cybertron (toyline)|''Cybertron'' line]] is a Deluxe-class toy that transforms into a futuristic tank. In robot mode he sports a battle-damaged appearance, with his head featuring a skull-like design mimicking the Unicron head that comes with Cybertron Primus. In both tank and robot modes, he features a main cannon with spring-loaded missile launcher, plus plugging a [[Cyber Planet Key]] into his back end upons up a port on his front (which bears a striking similarity to his planet maw) that reveals a (non-firing) triple-barreled cannon. His side-spikes in tank mode can be removed to become hand-weapons in robot mode.

: He comes with a [[Planet X]]-style Cyber Planet Key, with the [[Cyber Key Codes|Key Code]] "'''dgt3'''" on the back.

[[Image:Unicornhead.jpg|left|thumb|100px|right|That worked a lot better for [[Fortress Maximus (G1)|Fort Max]].]]

*'''Cybertron Primus''' (Supreme, 2006)

: Certain shipments of ''Cybertron''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s Cybertron [[Primus]] toy had a pack-in Unicron head. The head is based on ''Armada'' Unicron's and half of the face stripped away to reveal a robotic "skull". To provide the impression of locomotion, tentacles were added to the base of the head.

: The packaging for this variation of Primus was specifically changed with a callout for the Unicron head. this was supposed to originally be the first version of the Primus toy shipped, and only for a limited time, but both versions ended up shipping simultaneously, leading to some hunting to get the packed-in Uniskull.
*'''Unicron''' (Robot Master, 2006)

: Unicron in the ''[[Titanium Series]]'' line is a 3-inch tall figurine made partially of [[die-cast]] metal, with movable arms. One hand holds what seems to be a moon (or he's going bowling). He comes with a [[Decepticon]] stand as well.

* Generation 1 Hasbro
:An unproduced toy for Unicron was to have been released in [[Generation 1]]. It was a blue and yellow robot about one foot tall and was able to transform into a planet. It was to have come with a voice chip, and a "planet microphone" to allow owners to speak through the toy. It is very fat. It was only shown on display at [[BotCon 1996]].

* Generation 1 Takara
: Takara was to release a toy similiar to Hasbro's attempt, but it was green and yellow, possessing different paint applications and molding. It also was to come with a base that set up a "planetary system" with Unicron and a moon.

* ''Beast Wars Neo''
: Takara tried again to produce a Unicron toy, only going as far as the resin stage. It was said to be around the size of [[Optimus Primal]], and had several gimmicks, such as a laughing face when the horns were squeezed, and a claw and a drill that were stored in the planet "shell" in robot mode. One hardcopy was shown at the Tokyo Toy Fair.

:It's not out yet!

:This statue of Unicron stands 8 ½” tall and is limited to 1,986 pieces (as in 1986, the year the original Transformers movie was released). It also features a smaller statue of Hot Rod standing upon the centerpiece holding the Matrix aloft. Oddly enough, Hot Rod is in his toy colours.
==Trivia==
[[Image:Model-TheEntity.jpg|thumb|100px|right|Eastercron.]]

* In early preproduction for ''The Transformers: The Movie'', Unicron was referred to as the '''Entity'''.

* A model sheet from later in the movie's preproduction revealed that, at one point, the ''planet'' Unicron would turn into the ''robot'' '''Ingestor'''. This idea was, obviously, dropped before the film's release.
