At [[Hoover Dam]], [[Starscream (Movie)|Starscream]] is cajoled and taunted by [[Megatron (Movie)|Megatron's spirit]] into placing an [[All Spark|All Spark fragment]] and the interface module into Megatron's [[Transformers Comic issue 13|corpse]]. After doing so, Starscream finds his mind is his own again... and he realises just what he's done!

In [[Philadelphia]], [[Pennsylvania]], the [[Decepticon Civil War]] is reaching its conclusion! [[Stockade (Movie)|Stockade]], [[Fracture]], and their [[drones]] tear through [[Blackout (Movie)|Blackout's]] forces, taking over the drones they don't destroy. Blackout rejects Stockade's offer to surrender and sics [[Scorponok (Movie)|Scorponok]] on him... and gets Scorponok thrown back at him. [[Overcast (Movie)|Overcast]] "tidies up" the beaten foes, while Stockade states the next objective is to seize the [[Decepticon Heartland]], not that Starscream will be a challenge. And when Overcast asks if they'll really just hand [[Earth]] back at the end of it, Stockade hints they may ''not''...

Southwest of Lynchburg, [[Virginia]], [[Mikaela Banes]] is being called to an early morning meeting with [[Tom Banachek]] at a diner. Tom reveals that two weeks ago, he was covertly contacted by [[Ironhide (Movie)|Ironhide]] to be part of their contigency plan for ''when'' [[Theodore Allen]] was used against them. Tom was given the means to 'see' Decepticon cerebro-strips and see who in the government was a Decepticon puppet, and has finally identified everyone from the President on down. He then reveals to a stunned Mikaela that the Autobots faked their deaths so they could operate more easily... just as four very familiar driverless vehicles turn up...

As the sun rises on [[Savannah]], the New Decepticons find absolutely no one is home. Fracture wonders if Starscream just up and ran, but Stockade knows things are never ''that'' easy... and then, hovering like a vast predatory bird, ''Megatron'' blitzes them and makes a landing!

The Autobots rocket down the interstate to Georgia, and [[Bumblebee (Movie)|Bumblebee]] finds Mikaela's a wee bit pissed at him for faking his death without telling her, believing they didn't trust her not to be a puppet again. He apologetically explains ''how'' they faked their deaths—launching a jamming pulse that disabled all video feeds long enough to cloak their shuttle and ''de''cloak a ''second'' shuttle to get hit by the Patriot missile—but she's still angry. After all they'd been through, didn't she deserve better?

As the Autobots arrive, Stockade and Megatron are duking it out, Megatron taking every [[Nucleon]]-fueled blow and striking back, while the other New Decepticons are strafed by a silent Starscream. [[Optimus Prime (Movie)|Optimus]] gets confirmation from <strike>Strongarm</strike> Ironhide that [[Evac (Movie)|Evac]] reports "go" on [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]] and all regional strike teams are ready... and then orders the Autobots to strike! The Autobots beging shooting strange attachments onto the Decepticon's backs, while Optimus distracts Megatron with ''violence''. Stockade recognises the devices and protests to [[Strongarm (Movie)|Strongarm]] that they had a deal—to which the Autobot replies Stockade was merrily ''altering'' that deal, so he can be part of the ''new'' one...

...and suddenly ''every'' Decepticon on Earth is forcibly teleported to Cybertron! The Autobots had spent the last fortnight rigging up the teleportation requipment that [[Unicron]] had installed into Cybertron so that they could 'tag' and transport people there... and then rig the planet itself to teleport! The assembly will burn out and there's no spares on Cybertron, leaving the Decepticons all trapped on a dead world in the far reaches of space...

Mikaela asks if this means the Autobots are trapped on Earth, but Bumblebee replies there are worse fates. Tom and Optimus note there's still a long way to go, with Decepticon puppets to liberate and drones to decommission, but the war is now over.

And Mikaela gets into Bumblebee and drives off to explore this brave new world...

* Fracture appears to be pushing [[Incinerator (Movie)|Incinerator]] out of the way while telling ''Storm Surge'' to "move!" when Megatron attacks, even though he's at the other end of the panel; that line could've been meant for Overcast and his tactical command for her, except the posing is wrong for that. Either Davis-Hunt did a mix-up or Fracture just really likes Storm Surge.

[[Bumblebee (Animated)|Bumblebee]] tears through [[Detroit]], not noticing as [[Blackarachnia (Animated)|Blackarachnia]] tags him with a transmitter, and reaches the Autobot base in ''just'' under three minutes... to deliver a pizza to a happy [[Sari Sumdac|Sari]]. As Bumblebee bigs up his speed, [[Prowl (Animated)|Prowl]] points he may be fast but he's also reckless and keeps going through red lights—taking shortcuts is a weakness, and Prowl bets even ''he'' could take Bumblebeee in a fair contest. Bumblebee thinks those are fightin' words, and Sari steps in to propose the solution—a race!

Blackarachnia, [[Lugnut]] and [[Blitzwing (Animated)|Blitzwing]], meanwhile, are listening in thanks to Blackarachnia's transmitter. Lugnut wonders if they shouldn't just call in [[Megatron (Animated)|Megatron]] now they know where the Autobots will be, but Blackarachnia points out the Autobots always ''beat'' Megatron because of the '''Power of Teamwork (TM)'''. But if they seperate an Autobot from the others, such as during a race, then he'd be vulnerable...

The next day, Sari introduces the Autobot's to [[Crazy Coyote Canyon]], one of her dad's test sites, and location of the race. She's drawn an adorable little map (with a little drawing of Prowl marked "grumpy") and identifies the mazes, rock falls and caverns along the race track, as well as the fact radio reception is nil. [[Bulkhead (Animated)|Bulkhead]] eagerly asks if he can race too, to Prowl's confusion and Bumblebee's mocking, but [[Optimus Prime (Animated)|Daddy Optimus]] says ''anyone'' can race if they want to. (You can see how the strip'll end, can't you.)

The race begins, with Bumblebee and Prowl tearing off while Bulkhead, having ''forgotten to transform'', eats their dust. The Decepticons lie in wait, Lugnut whining at the idea he won't get to smash the 'bots, while Prowl and Bumblebee taunt each other. 'bee even ''drives backwards'' just to show up Prowl... who just raises his front wheel and ''drives over'' him. Now far in the lead, Prowl muses reckless actions lead to sticky situations... as he drives into Blackarachnia's web cos he's not looking where he's going.

Bumblebee, figuring Prowl's cheating and gone into a cave to use a shortcut, 'follows' him in and finds his team-mate a Decepticon prisoner! Unable to call for help, and with a happy Lugnut asking if he can hit the captive with a stick like a pinata, Bumblebee seems finished... until he sits down on the transmitter and finally notices it. That gives him an idea—and just as Lugnut finds a ''stalagmite'' to use as a stick, Bumblebee speeds in, slaps him on the butt, and runs out again.

Blitzwing and Lugnut follow, tracking the transmittter, and get hopelessly lost while Bumblebee (having looked at Sari's map) is able to double-back, much to Blackarachnia's confusion. As the other Cons come back, Bumblebee frees Prowl and both agree to do this the reckless way—driving up the cave wall towards the roof, making themselves an easy target... and the Decepticons realise too late that firing on the ceiling will cause it to cave in on them! The Autobots then head out to continue their race, only to find, yep, Bulkhead got to the finish while they were occupied. Bumblebee graciously accepts defeat, while Blackarachnia not-so-graciously screams in anger when she realises her transmitter's on Lugnut's rump...

The massive '''Blackout''' has been described as the "hound" of [[Megatron (Movie)|Megatron]]. In better days he was always to be found looming powerful and silent behind his leader's right shoulder. When given a target he hunts it down with fierce determination. Blackout is not happy with the progress [[Starscream (Movie)|Starscream]] is making towards finding the missing Decepticon leader. He suspects (quite rightly) that Starscream would prefer Megatron to stay lost. Blackout is openly mutinous and will challenge Starscream's leadership at any opportunity, not for his own sake, but to better serve his ultimate goal of finding his lost master. Blackout has a sneaky side and uses his symbiotic companion [[Scorponok (Movie)|Scorponok]]'s small size to great advantage.

During the war on [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]], Blackout preferred to sow confusion and disarray before he attacked, rather than engage in direct confrontation and risk being killed. He would only go into ground battles under cover of loud noise and pyrotechnics (which he himself caused with his devastating sonic shriek emitters).

Unfortunately for him, he kept getting stuck leading the first wave of attacks. To protect himself, he used an army of drone troopers (presumably [[Scorponok (Movie)|Scorponoks]]) to draw enemy fire. These drones were called "the swarm" and Blackout deliberately encouraged rumours about them so their arrival would strike fear into the hearts of enemies. {{storylink|Transformers Comic issue 4|Lost In Space 2: Devastator}}

Half an hour after his death and before his body was dumped in the sea, Blackout was briefly turned into a rampaging zombie by [[Starscream (Movie)|Starscream]]. {{storylink|Transformers Comic issue 7|Starscream's Militia}}

Blackout was not dead!

He assaulted an Autobot convoy at Shreveport, [[Louisiana]] as part of a general terror campaign. {{storylink|Transformers Comic issue 16|Dark Spark}} Later, he was a key part in a Decepticon ambush, appearing from nowhere to blankside Autobot ground troops. {{storylink|Transformers Comic issue 22|The Decepticon Who Haunted Himself}}

He was one of the [[Decepticon Heartland]] generals, and had to report the grim news to Starscream of just how badly [[Stockade (Movie)|Stockade]] had gummed up their advance. {{storylink|Transformers Comic issue 24|Revolution Part Two}} By the time the battle reached him in Philadelphia, he was commanding the only Decepticon force left standing. He rejected an offer to defect to Stockade's team, defiantly saying this planet was ''theirs'', and sicced Scorponok on him.

In the distant past, Blackout was a member of the Cybertronian Defense Force. During an attack by unknown aliens on the city of [[Metrotitan (Movie)|Metrotitan]], he could be seen picking up a wrecked enemy tank. {{storylink|Defiance issue 1}} In the aftermath of the attack, [[Megatron (Movie)|Megatron]] consulted with [[The Fallen|the mysterious relic]] dug up near [[Simfur]] and (essentially) declared a military dictatorship over Cybertron. Blackout followed Megatron and the other flight-capable soldiers into battle, using his special powers to disrupt the enemy flagship's targeting array. {{storylink|Defiance issue 2}}

After science division leader [[Optimus Prime (Movie)|Optimus]] survived an attempted kidnapping by [[Starscream (Movie)|Starscream]]'s squadron, Megatron declared the scientist and his followers traitors, and reformed the army under a new banner: the Decepticons. {{storylink|Defiance issue 3}}

During the subsequent civil war, Blackout fought alongside Megatron, until his master ordered 'this loyal hound' to assist Starscream's unit in keeping [[Optimus Prime (Movie)|Optimus Prime's]] forces busy, while Megatron pursued his destiny. Arriving soon after [[Brawl (Movie)|Brawl]] delivered news of Megatron's location, Blackout and Starscream witnessed the successful Autobot launch of the All Spark. Blackout restrained Starscream from going after it, the pair nearly coming to blows when Blackout launched Scorponok from his chest. Fortunately, Starscream calmed down, and after witnessing Megatron leave the planet himself, the group took on protoform transition forms and followed. {{storylink|Planetfall}}

Meanwhile, Starscream crew ''also'' went after Optimus Prime's starship in a Decepticon battlecruiser. Just before launch, Blackout listened to Barricade's not-so-quiet concerns that Starscream wasn't telling them everything. Unfortunately for the Decepticons, they were led into a trap by the Autobots, their ship (and Starscream's advance scout [[Dreadwing (Movie)|Dreadwing]]) was crippled by concussion chain mines. Blackout gave a detailed damage report when ordered but was berated for giving his observation on what had occured, and was ordered to despatch Scorponok to retrieve Dreadwing.

After making repairs to their ship, the Decepticons followed the All Spark's trace energy and landed on [[Mars]]. {{storylink|The Reign of Starscream Issue Number One}} There, they destroyed a primitive [[Beagle 2 Rover|human rover scout]] and decided to investigate the nearby third planet of this solar system. {{storylink|Prime Directive (IDW) issue 3}}

Making planetfall on Earth in Afghanistan, Blackout attracted the attention of a military vehicle of the local creatures. Witnessing the ease in which [[Wreckage (Movie)|Wreckage]] destroyed the carrier, Starscream pondered that Megatron would have been able to subjugate these beings if he was able to. Blackout replied that they needed to find out why he hadn't yet. Starscream's unit then attacked the nearby air base where Blackout scanned and adopted the form of an MH-53J 'Pave Low' helicopter, then easily hacked into the files of the human computers. Inside, he found files on something called 'Project: Iceman', which he suspected was related to Megatron. After the base's destruction, Blackout headed towards [[Qatar]], intent on attacking a similar military base there to access the information they needed. {{storylink|Planetfall}}

Meanwhile, the unit ''also'' arrived on [[Earth]] in the [[United States of America]] in the year 2003. Blackout scanned a USAF [[wikipedia:MH-53_Pave_Low|MH-53 Pave Low]] helicopter, but apparently was not detected by the humans, nor caused any casualties, in contrast to his two comrades. When Starscream tells the Decepticons that their mission is to find the All Spark, Blackout reminds Starscream that they must also find Megatron.

Later, after being lured into a trap intended for [[Bumblebee (Movie)|Bumblebee]] set by a group of impressively equipped humans, Blackout attacked the organisation's bunker and attempted to hack into their main server, but failed after they disconnected their local systems. While Starscream was hoping not to find Megatron, Blackout was working against him in hopes of restoring the former leader. However, the Autobots arrived in the ''[[Ark (Movie)|Ark]]'' to investigate the ship, and Starscream ordered the Decepticons to wait while he investigated the alien ship. Activating his heavy machine guns and rocket launchers, Blackout made quick work of the soldiers closest to him, then unleashed a massive shock wave that killed the rest of the troops and shattered their vehicles and the windows of the operations control tower. Blackout made his way around the base, tossing tanks aside, crushing soldiers underfoot and blowing up aircraft. Eventually, he reached the operations bunker and tore off the roof to link up with their server and download its files in an attempt to find information on [[Megatron (Movie)|Project: Ice Man]]. Unfortunately, the base commander intervened, cutting the physical hard line of the server, severing Blackout's connection and thwarting the primary objective of his mission.

Blackout then activated a chest-mounted laser cannon to put the fleshling out of its misery, but before he could do so, he was struck by a grenade fired by [[Jorge Figueroa|another soldier]], and the human made his escape. Enraged, Blackout fired flare countermeasures into the sky to confuse any other attempts to attack him, then ejected Scorponok from his back and sent his minion to track the [[William Lennox|fleeing]] [[Donnelly|soldiers]]. Blackout then turned his attention and his weapons back to the rest of the base, eventually destroying it, leaving no survivors.

Underestimating the fighting spirit and desire for vengeance of the humans, Blackout tried to finish them off until Captain Lennox, using an abandoned motorcycle, charged at him and fired a sabot round into his crotch (ouch), as F-22s pounded the Decepticon with missiles, extinguishing his [[spark]].
