[[Megatron (Prime)|Megatron]] notes that the second relic is in [[Antarctica]], and [[Dreadwing (Prime)|Dreadwing]] volunteers to head there. In the ''[[Harbinger]]'', [[Starscream (Prime)|Starscream]] is about to operate on himself to insert his new [[transformation cog|T-cog]] when the ship's computer picks up the fact that the [[Decepticon]]s are dispatching teams to four locations. At the [[Autobot Outpost Omega One|Autobot base]], [[Bulkhead (Prime)|Bulkhead]] departs through the [[GroundBridge]]. [[Optimus Prime (Prime)|Optimus Prime]] announces he's heading for the Antarctic, and announces that [[Ratchet (Prime)|Ratchet]] will need backup on his mission—[[Wheeljack (Prime)|Wheeljack]].

Starscream uses a GroundBridge remote control to head to the Antarctic on a hoversled. He's quickly spotted by Dreadwing and some [[Vehicon (Prime)|Vehicons]] who knock him off his sled. Starscream at first mistakes Dreadwing for Skyquake, and soon has some cuffs slapped on him. The group trudges through the snow to where the relic is located, to find it has already been dug out of the ice and is gone. The Vehicons start searching and find vehicle tracks. They're approached by Optimus, who demands the return of the relic, and the standoff quickly turns into a firefight. After Prime takes out two of the Vehicons and scores a hit on Dreadwing, the Decepticon starts breaking out heavier weapons, and proves to be formidable with a sword. They take a dive off a cliff, following which Optimus brings the ice crashing down, burying Dreadwing. With Starscream's help, Optimus takes care of the remaining two Vehicons, and demands Starscream lead him to the relic.

Optimus and Starscream take a long walk through the ice and snow until they finally reach a human base. Optimus radios home and gets [[William Fowler|Agent Fowler]] to evacuate the human base so he can safely retrieve the relic. Meanwhile, Dreadwing breaks free of the ice and heads out to find Prime. With the base clear, Optimus and Starscream venture inside to find the relic still frozen in a chunk of ice. They're interrupted by Dreadwing. While Optimus and Dreadwing fight, Starscream sets about liberating the relic, which turns out to be the [[Apex Armor (Prime)|Apex Armor]]. Outside, Dreadwing has Optimus on the ropes and is about to strike when Starscream, now wearing the armor, crashes out of the building.

Both Dreadwing and Optimus attack the rogue Decepticon, but he swats them aside, repeatedly. Optimus suggests to Dreadwing that they will need to cooperate to defeat Starscream. While Dreadwing flies around, Optimus slaps a bomb onto Starscream, but the Apex Armor proves invulnerable even to that. Optimus realizes that Starscream still has a vulnerability—his lack of flight. While Optimus keeps Starscream's attention once more, Dreadwing plants explosives on the ground, and just as Starscream works out that the pair are up to something, the bombs detonate. Starscream disappears into a hole blasted in the ice. With no relic left to claim, Dreadwing and Optimus go their separate ways, though Dreadwing swears to terminate Optimus next time.

At the bottom of the ocean below, Starscream walks along, still protected by the Apex Armor.

Megatron arrived on Earth in search of Fortress Maximus by orders of the [[Predacon Council]] {{storylink|Surprise Attack!}} with a cover story of plundering Earth's energy. His first appearance was at the International Scientific Symposium in [[New York]], during which he and the Predacon trio fought [[Optimus Prime (RID)|Optimus Prime]] and the [[Autobot Brothers]]. Although the battle did not go well, Megatron was able to abduct [[Kenneth Onishi|Doctor Kenneth Onishi]], an energy expert and archaeologist. {{storylink|Battle Protocol!}} Doctor Onishi was subjected to the [[psycho-probe]] which was proving to be slow work in extracting information. In the meantime, Megatron sent his minions out to steal energy to refuel the ''Megastar'', only occasionally venturing out himself to help them.

Attempting to provide a distraction for Sky-Byte's mission to some ruins, Megatron and the Predacon trio attacked [[Metro City]], fighting [[Team Bullet Train]]. {{storylink|The Secret of the Ruins}} Another plan to trap Optimus Prime started off well — Megatron disguising himself as a red sports car proved to be an effective method to trap the Autobot [[Side Burn (RID)|Side Burn]] and they were soon able to trap Optimus as well. With little information forthcoming from the psycho-probing of Doctor Onishi, the Predacons stole a disk left by the doctor, leading them to attack a steam train under the mistaken assumption it was a weapon of some sort. This did not help Megatron's temper. {{storylink|Secret Weapon: D-5}} Nor did the destruction of his [[Mega-Laser Cannon]] by the Autobots. {{storylink|Mirage's Betrayal}} In an attempt to destroy their foe, Megatron and Sky-Byte entered the International Grand Prix which the Autobots had also entered in an attempt to find one of their number who'd gone rogue. Megatron managed to trap Optimus and the three brothers under a huge rock, but the rogue Autobot, [[Skid-Z (RID)|Skid-Z]], turned up in time to rescue them and Megatron was sent packing. {{storylink|Skid Z's Choice}}

After several more failed missions, the interrogation of Dr. Onishi finally saw results in the discovery of a crashed Autobot spaceship in America. Megatron was able to snatch six protoforms from the ship and took them to the nearby McKinley Army Base where he imbued them with energy from his spark and gave them new forms as Decepticons. {{storylink|The Decepticons}} Eager to test his new troops, he sent them to destroy Sherman Dam and hacked into the primitive human television transmissions in order to extort the humans in the nearby city of [[Los Bogus]] into surrendering. Unfortunately, things did not go well and Megatron was left looking embarrassed in front of all the humans. {{storylink|Commandos}}

Megatron largely stayed back at base after these incidents until the Commandos were able to sabotage the Autobot [[Global Space Bridge]]. With the Autobots unable to reach specific destinations, Megatron and Scourge attacked an energy facility near the North Pole. Unfortunately for them, the Autobots were able to get the space bridge repaired in time for Megatron to be seen off by [[Landfill (RID)|Landfill]]. {{storylink|Landfill (episode)|Landfill}}

Megatron was especially interested in the arrival of a new Autobot, [[Ultra Magnus (RID)|Ultra Magnus]], who had an intense rivalry with Optimus Prime. {{storylink|Ultra Magnus (episode)|Ultra Magnus}} After Magnus badly damaged Prime in a fight, causing the latter to retreat to an island to recuperate, Megatron saw his chance and personally led the attack on Optimus Prime. The attack might have succeeded if it weren't for the arrival of Ultra Magnus, who merged with Optimus to form the powerful [[Omega Prime]]. {{storylink|Ultra Magnus: Forced Fusion!}}

After the capture of the three Autobot brothers, Megatron again ventured out and was able to successfully fight Optimus, who was unwilling to fight back while the three brothers were under threat. Even after the brothers were freed, Megatron attempted to stomp the trio, only to have them fight back after they supercharged under the influence of mysterious energy channelled through Ultra Magnus. {{storylink|The Two Faces of Ultra Magnus}}

Finally, information obtained from Dr Onishi led the Decepticons to discover the location of Fortress Maximus and the fulfilling of Megatron's quest. {{storylink|Fortress Maximus (episode)|Fortress Maximus}} Although the Autobots hid Fortress Maximus, Megatron had his men try to track down the rest of the [[O-Part|O-Parts]]. The Autobots again got there first, but Megatron was able to take [[Wedge]] hostage, offering him back in exchange for the O-Parts. The exchange was ruined by Sky-Byte, which didn't exactly endear the Predacon to his master. {{storylink|A Friendly Contest}}

The Decepticons subsequently tracked the Autobots to the [[Sahara|Sahara Desert]], Megatron leading the mission himself. By the time they caught up to the Autobots, Optimus had already located the [[Orb of Sigma]], the key to finding Fortress Maximus' commanding entity [[Cerebros (RID)|Cerebros]], in a deep cavern. Megatron attempted to take the Orb, but was caught in a booby trap which seized him in a powerful energy field. Soon he and Optimus were locked in combat, resulting in Megatron disappearing in the collapsing cavern. In the aftermath, the three beast Predacons pulled themselves out of the rubble, only to have their energy drained. Galvatron rejoined his troops as Scourge attempted to take control of Fortress Maximus in the heart of Metro City. He proclaimed Megatron dead and he himself to be an entirely new person. Though the attempt to control Fortress Maximus was unsuccessful, Galvatron seized Cerebros during the retreat. {{storylink|Maximus Emerges}}

Scourge's second attempt to control Maximus failed as well, leading the Decepticons to try and capture [[Koji Onishi]], the Autobots' pet human. Instead they got hold of Koji's friend [[Karl]], but Galvatron accompanied Scourge and Sky-Byte to Maximus's location. Once Karl had taken control of the titan, Scourge turned on his master, ordering Karl to destroy Galvatron. With the attempt a failure, Galvatron stunned his minion and retreated. {{storylink|Mistaken Identity}}

Galvatron used one of his new abilities to seize the traitorous Decepticons in an energy field and forcibly reprogram them to serve him. Placing them under the command of Sky-Byte, he then sent them to attack the Autobot base. Although the Decepticons and Predacons were led into a trap by the Autobots, Galvatron brought the ''Megastar'' to the battle, growing in size to join with the battle station as its right hand. After Fortress Maximus destroyed the battle station, Galvatron fell, apparently lifeless, to the ground. {{storylink|Surprise Attack!}} Not finished yet, Galvatron used his new vampiric powers to drain energy from Maximus. This protoform became '''Scourge'''. The robot who came to be named Scourge was originally one of a crew of six [[Autobot|Autobots]] sent to [[Earth]] to reactivate the legendary Autobot battle station, [[Fortress Maximus (RID)|Fortress Maximus]]. As leader of the expedition, Scourge was equipped with the ability to detect the unique energy signatures of the [[O-Part|O-Parts]], the [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertronian]] components that held the key to reawakening Maximus. However, Scourge never had the opportunity to use that ability in the service of the Autobots, when the team's craft malfunctioned and crashed on Earth in the mid-20th century. Having been in [[protoform]]-state with [[Stasis pod|stasis pods]] for the duration of their voyage, the six Autobots were entombed in their crashed ship.

In the early days of the 21st century, archaeologist and energy expert [[Kenneth Onishi|Doctor Kenneth Onishi]]'s work eventually led him to find the various links in the chain of Fortress Maximus—he located the fortress itself beneath [[Metro City]], mapped the location of the O-Parts, and discovered the location of the crashed Autobot spaceship. However, when the evil [[Megatron (RID)|Megatron]] came to Earth with the intent of harnessing Maximus's power, he captured Onishi, and through mental scans, discerned the location of the Autobots' ship. Stealing the six protoforms, Megatron took them to a nearby military base to scan vehicle modes for them, infusing them with a part of his own spark energy to turn them to the side of evil. The first five became the [[Commando|Commandos]], but when Megatron targeted a tanker truck to scan as the alternate mode of the final protoform, [[Optimus Prime (RID)|Optimus Prime]] leapt into action in order to save the truck's [[Kelly (RID)|human driver]], and as a result, the tanker, Prime ''and'' the human were all scanned. With an infusion of Megatron's spark energy to complete the concoction, Scourge was born, emerging from his pod as a dark twin of Optimus Prime, who proved that Megatron's programming had over-ridden any Autobot goodness within him. To prove the effectiveness of the new troops, Scourge led them on a mission to attack [[Sherman Dam]] and made short work of the [[Autobot Brothers]], tossing them into the lake behind the dam. Once the dam was mined with bombs, he attempted to detonate it, only to find that the bombs had been tampered with—Sky-Byte and the Predacons, annoyed at being pushed down in rank by the new arrivals, had taken control of the bombs in order to prove their own effectiveness to Megatron. The arrival of more Autobots in the form of Optimus and [[Team Bullet Train]] caused Megatron to call off the mission with only minor damage to the dam. {{storylink|Commandos}}

The next mission saw Scourge and the Commandos on guard duty, perhaps as a punishment for their previous failed mission, while the Predacon trio dug under a volcano. Scourge and Sky-Byte both fought Optimus when the Autobot leader arrived with the [[Spy Changer]]s, although the shark appeared to regard Scourge as just as valid a target. When a flow of lava was unleashed, Scourge unleashed a Barrage Attack on the Spy Changers who were attempting to stop it, little caring that Sky-Byte and the Predacons were in the blast area. After [[Movor]] was shot into orbit, Scourge grew steadily impatient with the shuttle's hopeless attempts to guide the rest of the Decepticons to the Autobot base and threatened much bodily injury. As part of a new ploy, Scourge interrupted Sky-Byte's attack on an oil rig and chased off the Predacon. Seeing this, Optimus Prime believed that the Decepticons had begun to experience a resurgence of their Autobot sparks. Scourge was disgruntled with [[Mega-Octane]]'s plan, believing lies and deceit to be unworthy of a warrior, but went along with it. The Decepticons successfully gave the appearance of changing sides to the Autobots and underwent various tests such as cleaning a forest, with Scourge holding his temper barely in check the whole time. The appearance of Sky-Byte (who'd been kept ignorant of the plan) gave Scourge an opportunity to blow off some steam, but his attack endangered the life of a [[Kelly (RID)|passerby]]. When Optimus told him to stand down, Scourge exploded and ended up giving the whole plan away, forcing the Decepticons to retreat under the full force of Optimus' rage. {{storylink|The Test (episode)|The Test}}

Scourge presented the increasingly impatient Megatron with a new plan which involved attacking power plants. The Autobots were hampered by the misguided assistance of Sky-Byte, but seemed to repel most of the Decepticon assaults. {{storylink|The Fish Test}} Scourge and the Decepticons subsequently butted in on one of Sky-Byte's plans, stealing a disk supposedly containing the plans to the Autobots' [[Global Space Bridge]] which the Predacons were trying to obtain. Scourge and [[Ruination (RID)|Ruination]] attempted to intercept Optimus on his way to taking the O-Parts to Sky-Byte, who had taken some humans as hostage. Ruination was swiftly disabled by the Autobot, but Scourge was only wounded and trailed Optimus to the site of the [[CGA Tower]] attack. He again fought Optimus in an attempt to take the O-Parts, but his threatened attack on the tower itself was thwarted by the Build Team. After a semi-successful attempt to raid an oil refinery, Scourge and Mega-Octane leaked a transmission ordering Sky-Byte to look for O-Parts in order to lead the Autobots into an ambush. However instead of the expected Autobots, they were confronted by [[Ultra Magnus (RID)|Ultra Magnus]]. They attempted to fight the newly-arrived Autobot warrior, but retreated after Optimus Prime arrived to lend a hand. {{storylink|Ultra Magnus (episode)|Ultra Magnus}} Back at [[Megastar|base]], they watched Movor's surveillance of Ultra Magnus beating down Optimus, and Megatron demanded of Scourge to know why one Autobot had done what the Decepticons had failed to do so many times. The Decepticons interrupted another of Sky-Byte's plans in order to kidnap the Autobot Brothers. With the three brothers as hostages, the Decepticons led Optimus into a trap and fought the Autobot leader savagely. Although the Autobots were on hand to try to fight them off, Scourge attempted to approach the ruins, and his proximity caused Fortress Maximus to rise. {{storylink|Fortress Maximus (episode)|Fortress Maximus}} The exposure to the battle station's energies awakened memories of his original Autobot mission to find and reactivate Maximus and, twisted by Megatron's reprogramming, he became determined to take control of the huge Autobot in order to take over leadership of the Decepticon/Predacon forces and eventually the Universe. With Ruination fighting the Autobots as a distraction, Scourge set out to find Maximus, fighting with Optimus Prime and eventually breaking into the cavern to find that Maximus was gone. As the race began to locate the remaining O-Parts, Scourge rediscovered his ability to sense them, part of his original mission as an Autobot. They were able to successfully capture [[Cerebros (RID)|Cerebros]] from the Autobots, and Scourge was able to use the Autobot part of his bio-signature to dupe the robot into activating Maximus. However he soon found he was unable to control the giant robot, who ran amok until the Autobots' human ally, [[Koji Onishi|Koji]], was able to stop it. Additionally the arrival of Galvatron, Megatron's reborn form, during the battle, also meant that Scourge had lost his new leadership. {{storylink|Maximus Emerges}} Realizing that humans could control Maximus, Scourge then amplified the human part of his bio-signature and succeeded in taking control of the giant, until he was overridden by a large group of human children. {{storylink|The Human Element}} Seeking to use Koji himself for the process, a case of mistaken identity resulted in the Decepticons capturing his best friend, [[Karl]], instead, but when Karl proved able to activate Fortress Maximus, Scourge dropped his façade of loyalty and ordered Maximus to destroy Galvatron. {{storylink|Mistaken Identity}}

Sent by Megatron to help Sky-Byte steal an experimental nuclear generator from a facility in [[Arizona]], he and the Predacon bickered at length, until the arrival of Optimus Prime and Ultra Magnus. After an unsuccessful attempt to engage Magnus in combat, during which he was slammed against the building, he realised that the Autobots' concern for the humans would be their downfall. Threatening the nearest human with his sword, Scourge commanded the two Autobots to surrender.

When Sky-Byte protested that this wasn't part of the mission, Scourge accused him of becoming soft. Magnus and Prime, after a brief discussion, agreed to surrender. Scourge raised his sword to strike them down, however he was interrupted by the Predacons making their escape with the nuclear generator. Notable changes were that red translucent plastic replaces all the pink; the stickers are now a flat light gray with Decepticon logos instead of glossy silver with "negative-Autobot" logos; the sword was blunted; and the discs were remolded to make them blank, removing the faction symbol. The only change in paint is that Scourge has Decepticon sigils tampographed on his doors, while lacking Black Convoy's teal "stripe" along the cab's nose. The license plate sticker on the tanker now states "SCOURGE D-012".

:Released as a Kay-Bee Toys exclusive, [[Destructicon (RID)|Destructicon]] Scourge is a black redeco of [[Optimus Prime (G1)/toys#HeroOptimusPrime|Hero Optimus Prime]]. In either robot mode or tanker mode, he carries a missile launcher that fires when its air silo is squeezed. Scourge comes with two rubber-tipped missiles which can store on his back in robot mode.

:By the time this toy was released, its tooling had degraded somewhat since Hero Prime's original production run. As a result, neither robot nor vehicle mode held together very well on many specimens. Keeping his missiles stored was difficult, as they liked to pop out from their storage clips involuntarily. Additionally, initial shipments appear to have been missing a certain part that allowed the waist to ratchet, instead letting it spin freely.

: Well in Crossfire and Armada they were under Airachnid's mind control, so during Armada her attention was divided and could theoretically make the insecticons less effective. Now that they are independent, their effectiveness goes back to what we saw in Orion Pax Part 3. :::Here's another thought, a lack of energon. Skyquake seemed to be in some kind of stasis device when he was introduced. Starscream's energon infusion to both appaerntly open the container and reawaken Skyquake. We have no idea how long the Insecticon in Crossfire was out of it's stasis pod, but it was out of the pod when we first see it. In Armada Airachnid releases the Insecticons from their pods before sending them to attack the Nemisis and destroy Megatron. It could be that prolonged duration in stasis weakens a Transformer and they need to get an energon infusion to get back to full strength. That would likely also explain the difference in the Insecticons strength levels between episodes, by Tunnel Vision the Insecticons have finally had a little energon and their up to full strength making them tougher in battle. -annonymous 5/8/2012 12:48 AM EST

Or even for someone who knows how to get in tough with the right people (which I have no real knowledge of how to do so) to contact and see if their willing to say anything. It may be something worth noting that Skyquake didn't show any signs of weakness (save for not having a alt form) when he came out of his container while the insecticons clearly did.
