Cliffjumper
:Cliffjumper is an Autobot from the Generation 1 continuity family.

Within Cliffjumper burns the spark of a hero and a dedicated Autobot. On the outside is a paranoid, trigger-happy jerk with serious impulse-control problems. Cliffjumper utterly hates the Decepticons. He also hates traitors. And anybody could be a traitor. Therefore, Cliffjumper hates everybody. It's unclear if he hates traitors more than he hates Decepticons, but it's at least a neck-and-neck thing.

He makes a habit of pulling ridiculously huge guns out of nowhere and attacking impulsively despite orders or sanity. Somehow, this gets him neither killed nor demoted.

Cliffjumper's special weapon is his glass gas, which embrittles metals on contact so that they shatter like glass. He is not immune to its effects, so its use requires careful consideration of wind direction. Actually, this may explain why he prefers the big guns. He doesn't seem like the calculating type.

Cliffjumper was a part of the crew on board the Ark when it crashed into Earth four million years ago while clearing an asteroid field in the path of Cybertron. Upon reviving in 1984, Cliffjumper was chosen as part of the first field expedition into the world under Prowl's command. Their simple recon mission to a drive-in movie theatre quickly turned into a battle when the Decepticons arrived. Cliffjumper acquitted himself well in combat, single-handedly driving off Starscream and Thundercracker with his glass gas. The Transformers (issue)

Later, he joined Optimus Prime on the mission to rescue their human friend Sparkplug Witwicky from the Decepticons. Unfortunately, the human military got in the way, distracting Cliffjumper and Huffer long enough for Rumble's earthquakes to throw them for a loop. Prisoner of War! Whether because of this or just a general lack of fuel, Cliffjumper was unable to stand up and fight against the Decepticons in the battle at the Ark. The Last Stand He was deactivated for a while during Shockwave's occupation of the Ark, but was repaired without incident when Ratchet reclaimed it for the crew. However, the head of Optimus Prime was still missing, and during an attempt to retrieve it, an impostor head took control of Prime's body, firing on Cliffjumper. Prime Time!

Presumably repaired, he later participated in the Dinobot Hunt, along with Gears and Windcharger. Although they found Sludge, immediately thereafter all three were captured by the Decepticons. They were rescued by Bumblebee. Dinobot Hunt!

He was one of the observers to Blaster and Grimlock's battle on the moon. How he fared in the following Decepticon attack is unknown, but he was never seen again. Totaled!
Marvel UK future timelines
After surviving the destruction of Moonbase One, Cliffjumper returned to the Autobot combat movement on Cybertron by 2007. He joined Ultra Magnus in a concerted effort to surprise a group of Decepticon skyraiders, using Rodimus Prime as bait to draw them in close for a crossfire. Wanted:Galvatron — Dead or Alive!
Classics/Shattered Glass
After being nearly killed by an Underbase-powered Starscream, the Autobots, lacking the resources on Earth to repair him, shipped his body to Cybertron, where he languished on life support for fifteen years. After the war, newly-freed resources allowed techs to revive him once again, though when he first woke up he immediately flatlined again when they told him the war was over. Consoled by the idea that some Decepticons were still left in the universe, Cliffjumper was sadly too late to join Grimlock's crew on the Graviton, so when reports of Megatron's return reached Cybertron, Cliffjumper was the first to join Optimus Prime in returning to Earth to vanquish him.
:Voice Actor: Casey Kasem (English), Takurō Kitagawa (Japanese)

Cliffjumper was a part of the crew onboard the Ark when it crashed into Earth four million years ago during a search for new energy sources. His alt mode was reformatted into an oddly proportioned Porsche 924 Turbo.

When the Autobots awakened from their four million-year slumber, Cliffjumper was eager for action. He volunteered to tag along on Hound's recon mission to scout out Decepticons because he was itching to "boot some Decepticon right in his turbocharger". Though Optimus Prime's orders were only to find the Decepticons, Cliffjumper brashly tried to engage the enemy once Hound sniffed them out.

Cliffjumper missed his shot, and the Decepticons dispatched Laserbeak to chase off the Autobot eavesdroppers. Hound got pasted by Laserbeak's laser blasts and ended up requiring extensive repair from Autobot medic Ratchet after being pulled out of a ditch by Hauler. It worked out in the end, though, since Cliffjumper was remorseful for having acted without thinking, and Hound didn't hold a grudge anyway. More than Meets the Eye, Part 1

Soon afterwards, Cliffjumper made a very public display of his paranoia by accusing fellow Autobot and reluctant soldier Mirage of being a traitor on some very flimsy evidence, much to the (correct) disbelief of the other Autobots. He kept up his rhetoric even after Optimus Prime ordered him to can it. So determined was he to prove his theory true that he followed Mirage when the latter returned to the Decepticon power station to sow seeds of discontent within the Decepticon ranks. Fortunately, in the end it was proven that Mirage was a loyal Autobot all along, and Cliffjumper fell across Mirage's body, asking Ratchet to fix him for not trusting a comrade. This prompted a rather awkward laugh from the other Autobots present. Traitor
In 2005, Cliffjumper was stationed at Moonbase One, and was left there with Jazz when Optimus Prime left with a few other Autobots to reinforce Autobot City. Cliffjumper was then eaten by Unicron along with the moon, but was saved from his internal acid pits by Daniel Witwicky. Rodimus Prime then helped Cliffjumper escape from Unicron, but for some reason, he was never seen again. The Transformers: The Movie

While the majority of the Autobots were occupied dealing with a Decepticon attack upon Autobot Headquarters, Cliffjumper was part of a small team searching Japan for Soundwave and his cassettes, who were conspicuous by their absence from the assault. Bumblebee and Kenji found the Decepticon communicator first, but Bumblebee was able to get the drop on him and shattered his chest door with a "Bumble Kick". Cliffjumper and Ironhide then arrived to take care of the cassettes, who cut their losses and tried to take refuge in Soundwave's chest compartment, only to find that they couldn't get in through the broken door. Cliffjumper snatched them up, and being the big jerk that he is, pulled out their tape spools and wrapped them around his fingers. {{storylink|Fight! Super Robot Lifeform Transformers issue 2|Fight! Cliffjumper was part of the Autobot batallion who battled the Decepticons in space for control of the interstellar teleportation system known as the "Trigger". During the battle, Starscream fused with the Trigger, transforming into a massive, monstrous robot form determined to wipe out Autobots and Decepticons. A combination of Optimus Prime and Megatron's power defeated the treacherous Decepticon, but all the Transformers were caught in the backwash of the colossal explosion that resulted, and were left injured and inactive for many months. The Stargate Battles (issue)

One day, a bunch of humans held a rally race for which first prize would be a year's supply of oil and gasoline. Rather than follow their usual tack, attempting to cheat their way to the fuel, the Decepticons decided to sneak into the race simply for the sake of giving the Autobots a thrashing. Cliffjumper was one of the Autobots driving in the rally, and he was unaware that the scary black Cadillac was actually being driven by Megatron until he tried to pass it. Megatron dogged the Minibot for quite a while, until a telephone pole-wielding Optimus Prime swatted the Decepticon leader out of the race. Cliffjumper won the race and everybody smiled, even Optimus Prime. The Great Car Rally
Dreamwave comics continuity
Events from the Keepers Trilogy novels are in italics.
Cliffjumper was active during the Dark Ages on Cybertron, when Optimus Prime and Megatron were missing and the two armies had split up into multiple smaller factions. He was working primarily with Prowl's contingent of soldiers. War Within: The Dark Ages

Cliffjumper was a part of the crew on-board the Ark when it crashed into Earth four million years ago while clearing an asteroid in the path of Cybertron. He was one of many Transformers captured and reprogrammed by arms dealer Adam 'Lazarus' Rook for lease to terrorist organizations and shady governments requiring brutal military might. Fortunately, Autobots under the command of Optimus Prime repaired and re-reprogrammed Cliffjumper and the remaining captive Autobots. Immediately, they were put to work on fighting Megatron's metallic virus, which had spread deep into Canadian territory, using their own internal power as the anti-virus. Prime Directive issue 5

As Cliffjumper collapsed into the snow out of exhaustion, the Canadian military arrived. Unfortunately, due to the recent attacks by both enslaved Autobots and Decepticons under the command of Rook, the Canadians attempted to stop the Autobots doing what they perceived to be an attack on their soil. Knowing that the virus fed upon weapons fire, Cliffjumper tried to stop a tank crew from causing further harm by bending the tank's main gun. The commander panicked, thinking Cliffjumper was attacking, and fired, destroying himself and seriously damaging the Autobot. Prime Directive issue 6

When the U.S. military attacked the Autobots and Decepticons at a staged ambush in the Nevada desert, Cliffjumper was among the soldiers present. He took semi-critical damage from the deconstructionite attack, losing a great deal of available processing power to the weaponized nanites employed by the armed forces, and had to be carted away to safety inside Prime's trailer. Fusion (novel)

Sometime later, the unified Cybertronian army arrived on Earth and demanded the surrender of all active Autobots and Decepticons. After the initial encounter left several Autobots damaged, Optimus Prime brought most of his crew back to the Ark for repairs while Prowl organized a small detachment for reconnaissance purposes. Cliffjumper and Mirage were teamed together for the recon assignment, but were captured by Ultra Magnus and his contingent of soldiers. Mirage gave up without a fight, eager to return home to Cybertron, which led Cliffjumper to declare him a traitor to the Autobot cause (deja vu... rising...). Brothers' Burden

Still, they settled their differences once Mirage saved him from Dirge during the uprising on Cybertron. Revelation (War and Peace)

Following the Autobot takeover of Cybertron, Cliffjumper was assigned to the shuttle Orion under Bumblebee's command, bringing supplies back to Jazz and his troops on Earth. Their routine mission was almost immediately interrupted by one of Shockwave's rogue creations, the super-clone known as Sunstorm who was engaging Autobot and Decepticon alike on Earth. Night of the Combaticons Cliffjumper worked loyally under Bumblebee's command during this endeavor, participating in Ratchet and Jetfire's plans to disable the solar-powered Decepticon, but missed out on the final battle because he was attending to the injured Omega Supreme. Atonement

An unspecified amount of time before the events of All Hail Megatron, Cliffjumper was with the other Autobots who were ambushed by the Decepticons. He was one of the bots to rally against the Decepticons and start to turn the tide—until Devastator turned up and slagged them all. All Hail Megatron issue 7 In the present, Cliffjumper was with the Autobots on Cybertron, watching over the critically wounded Optimus Prime. All Hail Megatron issue 1
Cliffjumper proved just how desperate he was for a good rumble when he spent hours staring at a screen on the off chance of an emergency, then got excited over a signal that lasted 1/100th of a second! Taking a ticked off Ironhide along for the ride, he found the suspected threat... which turned out to be Hot Rod. He went with the other Autobots to Earth. All Hail Megatron issue 10 Then, on Earth, when the Autobots retreated from the Decepticon attack, he corrected a deluded Astrotrain by saying that they weren't running away, that they were making room—making room for Omega, who promptly slagged Devastator. All Hail Megatron issue 11
He survived the great battle. All Hail Megatron issue 12
At some unknown time after these events, he crash-landed on a peaceful planet after a successful assassination of several Decepticons. There he befriended a fleshling until the remaining Decepticons tracked him down. They killed the fleshling, a female called Kita, whom Cliffjumper seemed to have feelings for. He killed the entire unit of the Decepticon that had killed her, and nailed Kita's gravestone into the ground with his decapitated head. He then found a new family for her brother and left in the Decepticons' ship. Spotlight: Cliffjumper
His mold was originally used to make a Microchange "MC-04 #01 Porsche 924 Turbo", a cutesified, "Penny Racer"-style representation of the real car. In the original Japanese release, this figure was available in red, yellow, and blue. For the first series Transformers release, there were common instances of the yellow version of Cliffjumper and the red version of Bumblebee being sold at US retail. This led to some confusion about the two characters, especially if the toys were found without their packaging.

: Like the other first series Minibots, Cliffjumper was released in many different color schemes by the companies who licensed Transformers for South American countries.

: This mold was retooled to make Hubcap.

: A yellow version of the Microchange "MC-04 Mini CAR Robo 02 Familia 1500XG" mold was also available packaged on Cliffjumper cards. This toy was not regarded as a valid variant of Cliffjumper, but rather a separate character among fans, despite being packaged on Cliffjumper cards. See Bumper.

*Cliffjumper (Listen 'n Fun, 1985)

: A yellow version of Cliffjumper was packaged with an audio cassette featuring the story "Sun Raid" as part of Hasbro's multi-brand Listen 'n Fun subline. As the other known Listen 'n Fun releases—including Tripwire for G.I. Joe and "Ember" for My Little Pony—had intentional deco changes from their original releases, it is likely that Cliffjumper becoming yellow was intentional as well.

*Cliffjumper (Keychain Mini-Vehicle, 2001/2003/2007)

: Released in the US by Fun-4-All at the same time as a "keychain" Bumblebee, this was a slight retooling of the first Cliffjumper toy which added a loop to the back bumper for a keychain attachment. In 2003, Takara released all four of the keychain Minibots (Cliffjumper, Bumblebee, Windcharger, and Brawn) for the Japanese market in both their original decos and in exclusive all-black coloration. Early in 2007, Hasbro re-released the "keychain" Mini-Vehicles for the US under the "Heroes of Cybertron" sub-line, which popped up in stores like Wal-Mart as well as smaller chains like the original releases.

: This mold was redecoed into Tap-Out.

*Cliffjumper(McDonald's Happy Meal toy, 1984)

:One of the four toys given out during a 1984 McDonald's Happy Meal promotion, Cliffjumper came in four different colors: red, yellow, blue and green. The toy was a statue in robot mode, only given out for a short time in St. Louis as a test run.

:Titanium Series Cliffjumper was to be a redeco of "Robot Masters" Bumblebee, a 3-inch mostly-die-cast-metal statue. He would have had joints at the waist, neck and shoulders, plus a removable pistol and an Autobot-sigil display stand. Due to the cancelation of the Titanium line, this product never saw release.
:Classics Cliffjumper is a red, silver, gray and black redeco of the Classics Bumblebee toy, transforming into a small sports coupe of made-up model and towing a small trailer with a non-removable jet-ski. This "Wave Crusher" trailer/jet-ski transforms into a flight-pack that clips onto Cliffjumper's back.

: This mold was also used to make Classics Bug Bite included in the BotCon exclusive "Games of Deception" figure set.
*Cliffjumper Decoy (1987)

: A tiny, unpainted, red rubber figurine of Cliffjumper was packed randomly among the other 51 Decoys in the packages of 1987 Transformers toys. It is notable for being the first Cliffjumper figure to be based on his character model.

* Cliffjumper Mini Bust (Diamond Select, 2008)

Released by Diamond Select Toys in 2008, Cliffjumper was sculpted by Mark Wong of Art Asylum and limited to 1,000 pieces. The sculpt features Cliffjumper holding the gun he was seen using in "More than Meets the Eye, Part 1". However, this version omits the stabilizing struts that were present in the episode. This bust is also notable for being the first new mold G1 Cliffjumper has received since his Decoy in 1987, a period of over twenty years!
He was only available in the Wal-Mart exclusive "Decepticon Sneak Attack" five-pack along with "Supermetal" versions of Optimus Prime and Megatron, a clear-plastic Mirage, and Skywarp.
Unreleased
: One of the earliest proposals in the Alternators/Binaltech line was for Bumblebee as a Volkswagen New Beetle, with Cliffjumper as the redeco. Unfortunately, VW had similar concerns as Porsche, what with not wanting to be associated with "war toys", therefore the design never made it past the control drawing stage. Control drawings for both Bumblebee and Cliffjumper have been published in the Japanese The Transformers: Binaltech & TF Collection Complete Guide book.

Trivia
*Cliffjumper's pre-production name Blow-Out was mentioned in a Marvel Age article announcing the Marvel comic series in 1984, and also appeared at one point in The Great Car Rally. The second instance is particularly peculiar considering he's referred to as Cliffjumper throughout the rest of the book.
*Cliffjumper is yellow like his toy variant in his only appearance in the Ladybird Books. Laserbeak's Fury
:First Aid is an Autobot Protectobot from the Generation 1 continuity family.

First Aid is one of the most empathic and compassionate beings you'll ever meet. He cares deeply about all living things. Heck, he even cares deeply about the "pain" of inanimate objects. A broken or malfunctioning can-opener will earn just as much sympathy and attention as a fellow Autobot. Otherwise, First Aid is a soft-spoken and sometimes overly cautious sort (especially when it comes to the well-being of a fellow Autobot). Still, all the Autobots know he will work long and hard to do his best for them and that their well-being matters to him more than anything, and those are quite comforting thoughts.

First Aid is a member of the subgroup Protectobots and forms the left arm of the combiner robot Defensor.

First Aid is an avowed pacifist. When the Insecticons attacked an inhabited city on Earth, Optimus Prime called upon the Protectobots to evacuate the civilians caught in the crossfire. First Aid helped an injured man discovered by Streetwise. Later, as Earth's orbit was diverted to the Sun by the Combaticons, First Aid brought civilians to a meat locker that Groove and Streetwise had commandeered to help the humans cool down. The Revenge of Bruticus

First Aid, as part of Defensor, was the arm that wielded the rifle which totally blew up Bruticus. Afterwards, he was with the Protectobots when they saved some window-washers from a burning skyscraper. Later still, First Aid and the other Protectobots were ordered to help defend Autobot Headquarters from a Decepticon attack. They merged into Defensor and activated his useless force field, which almost immediately deactivated, allowing the Decepticons to blast Defensor back into his component parts. B.O.T. (episode)

In the year 2006, First Aid was on Cybertron for the planet's first peace conference. He participated in a surprise birthday party for Daniel Witwicky along with Rodimus Prime, Ultra Magnus, Warpath, Groove and Wheelie. The Combaticons then attacked a nearby shuttle bay, hoping to scrap the ships which would be used to ferry delegates to the conference. First Aid happily blasted away at the Combaticons. After the battle, First Aid was tending to a serious wound Magnus suffered on his back, when he used his own body to shield Wheelie from a Decepticon attack. When attention turned to the damaged shuttle, Ultra Magnus insisted First Aid repair the ship first and deal with his injuries. Guess he forgot First Aid was a doctor, not a mechanic! (Ol' Ratchet sure wouldn't have taken no lip — he would have disconnected the patient's vocal processor first.) Surprise Party

When Superion took heavy fire over the Planet of Junk, Sky Lynx brought him back to Cybertron for repairs. First Aid arrived and began patching up the super-robot. The Big Broadcast of 2006

The Autobots were asked to help the Dutch authorities deal with French rebels. First Aid wondered why the humans were always fighting amongst themselves. After dispersing the human aggressors, First Aid then helped out Blades when his comrade was shot down by Galvatron. While the Autobots held off the loser-ish Decepticons, First Aid carried Blades back to Metroplex for repairs. After he finished, the Autobot medic responded to an intruder alert and confronted the Decepticon Swindle stealing Metroplex's transformation cog. Unfortunately, Swindle managed to make off with his loot because the pacifist Autobot refused to fight back. Despite Rodimus Prime's attempts to convince him that they didn't expect First Aid to compromise his beliefs, he felt he was a liability to the Autobots and left. After helping some old junker robot chug down some oil and repair some refrigerators, First Aid received a pep talk from Hot Spot, which convinced him to come back to help the Autobots. While Trypticon and Metroplex fought it out, First Aid bravely entered the Autobot giant and re-aligned the stolen transformation cog to suit Metroplex, allowing the Autobot city to transform fully and defeat Trypticon. The Ultimate Weapon

Later in 2006, First Aid transported Jessica Morgan to County General Hospital after she was injured in a battle between the Technobots and the Terrorcons. Despite his helping to restore her ability to walk, the fact that First Aid was a robot had some negative consequences because some people are jerks. The Return of Optimus Prime, Part 1
Fight! Super Robot Lifeform Transformers
When the Decepticon combiners attacked a baseball stadium in Japan, the Protectobots and Aerialbots raced to the rescue. After attending to the blaze created by Menasor's destruction, First Aid and his team combined into Defensor. However, Defensor's central component was damaged battling Bruticus; with Hot Spot out of action, the Protectobots could not maintain their super-robot form. Getting an idea, the Autobots' human friend Kenji told Superion to shoot out the legs of the Decepticon super-robots. With their legs damaged, Menasor and Bruticus were left open for First Aid and the other small Protectobots to link up as their new legs, taking over the Decepticons' locomotion, sending them out to sea. Fight! Super Robot Lifeform Transformers issue 5

Later, the Constructicons were paving over a natural island paradise, and the Autobots sent a rescue party to save the wildlife and their friends on the island. Due to the medical needs of the mission, First Aid replaced Slingshot with the Aerialbots to form Superion. Even linked together, First Aid and the Aerialbots were outclassed against both Devastator and Trypticon, until Hound generated a hologram of Metroplex to distract the dino-base Decepticon, sending him over a cliff. Fight! Super Robot Lifeform Transformers issue 6

The Great Transformer War
In 2010, Galvatron kidnapped the scientist Dalton in order to upgrade his combiner warriors. First Aid and the Protectobots joined forces with the Aerialbots to rescue Dalton from inside Trypticon. Superion was heavily damaged in the first strike run, however, and Hot Spot needed time in his repair bay mode to bring the Aerialbots back to fighting strength. While Blades snuck into Trypticon alone to rescue Dalton, First Aid, Streetwise and Groove defended Hot Spot against both Menasor and Bruticus. They held out long enough for the Aerialbots to be revived. After the Aerialbots distracted the Decepticons, Blades completed his mission and the Autobots rolled out for Scramble City with Dalton in tow. The Great Transformer War issue 1
Generation 1
noteukonly
First Aid and the other Protectobots were created on Earth by Wheeljack and the Autobots after they stole a recording of Devastator's combiner transformation sequence and modified it (and after Optimus Prime and Buster Witwicky shared a Matrix-induced vision of the future with the Special Teams in it) Second Generation!.

Having learned of a Decepticon plot to acquire the human-made hydrothermocline, Optimus Prime brought the Protectobots with him to Energy Futures Industries in order to guard the device. After Megatron and the Combaticons arrived ready for a fight, the Transformers allowed themselves to be convinced of a better solution by Ethan Zachary, an employee of EFI. Zachary would upload their minds into a video simulation program known as Multi-World, allowing the Transformers to do battle without damaging the hydrothermocline or the surrounding area. Inside the game world, First Aid and Streetwise were exploring Vineland when their path was blocked by a web of thick vines. First Aid wanted to blast through, but Streetwise thought better of it and merely lifted the vines out of their way. They were caught off-guard by the Combaticons Brawl and Swindle, but were then miraculously saved by the living vines they had refrained from destroying moments ago. First Aid then used his decrystallizer cannon on the Decepticons, making them brittle enough for Streetwise to shatter with a burst from his compressed air cannon.

Apparently, First Aid's pacifism doesn't extend to virtual combat. Afterdeath!

First Aid was later displaced to limbo right before Bumblebee's eyes, in order to make room for Death's Head. Wanted:Galvatron — Dead or Alive!

First Aid later attempted to console a despondent Ratchet after the death of Optimus Prime. Funeral for a Friend!

While not seen on-panel being killed in the Underbase Saga, he was possibly deactivated in that battle, since he was next seen in a life support capsule as Optimus briefly considered using a Matrix fragment to revive him after Ratchet's disappearance. The Greatest Gift of All!

Generation 2
When Optimus Prime and Grimlock discovered the threat of the Cybertronian Empire, they called in Autobots scattered across the galaxy, including First Aid. And, when Grimlock chose to disobey Prime's directives and make a tactical first strike against Jhiaxus's ships, First Aid went with him. They were quickly found out and captured, though, leaving it to Optimus to bail them out of trouble. Devices and Desires! (Marvel)

Sometime later, First Aid was working with a science team alongside Perceptor and Wheeljack. They attempted to find out what had devastated the population of J'asik, down to the cellular level. Samples taken from the bodies helped the team identify the killer, known as the Swarm, as an offshoot of the Cybertronian race. Swarm (issue)
** Team ID number: P4
**Japanese ID number: C-75

: First Aid transforms into a Toyota Town Ace/Lite Ace ambulance. Due to the requirements of transformation, there are some significant compromises in the appearance of the vehicle, such as the rather visible hinge joints for the front end and the big gap in the back of the ambulance to facilitate his knee joint. There is a 5mm peg hole at the back to attach his large "Decrystallizer Cannon" to this mode.

:As a Scramble City robot, First Aid can form the limb of any super robot combination, though his nominal place is as the left arm of Defensor.

: During the initial 1986 run, there were two variants; initial runs had a die-cast metal chest, while later releases used plastic. When the toy was reissued in the European-exclusive Classics line, the rubsign was removed, but the rubsign indentation remained.

: This mold was also used to make Safety from the Guard City giftset in the Operation Combination toyline.

Unreleased
: The Protectobots were to be released as part of the second wave of combiners in Generation 2. However, this entire wave was ultimately canceled for unknown reasons. First Aid was to be off-white with seafoam-green robot chest, gold robot parts and a different rescue/ambulance deco. Vanishingly few samples—less than a dozen—of this item made their way outside Hasbro, including some on-card samples, which give him the unit number "P2".

Trivia
* First Aid's pacifism is only demonstrated in the original cartoon. In the various comics he seems to have no problems fighting his enemies.

* Although the Protectobots in the Marvel comics are assumed to have been built on Earth (explicitly so in the UK), his advice to Ratchet after Optimus Prime's death sound like words of experience. Afterdeath!
The Protectobots consist of:

*The energetic Hot Spot (Leader)
*The savvy Streetwise
This team of emergency, rescue and law enforcement vehicles are dedicated to the protection of humans and their homes. To this end, they will respond to any manner of mundane human emergency and help in any way they can.

They combine to form the giant Defensor, who embodies the team's ideals of protecting human life.
Fiction
Cartoon continuity
When the Insecticons attacked an inhabited city on Earth, Optimus Prime called upon the Protectobots to evacuate the civilians caught in the crossfire. Later, as Earth's orbit was diverted to the Sun by the Combaticons, the Protectobots raced around the world rescuing people trapped by fire, putting out infernos and trying to cool the population down by putting them inside meat lockers. The Revenge of Bruticus

Soon after the Combaticons were brought to heel by Megatron, they attacked a major city for no apparent reason. Defensor arrived and totally blew up Bruticus. Later, the Protectobots saved some window-washers from a burning skyscraper, and helped douse the flames. Later still, the Protectobots were ordered to help defend Autobot Headquarters from a Decepticon attack. They merged into Defensor and activated his useless force field, which almost immediately deactivated, allowing the Decepticons to blast Defensor back into his component parts. {{storylink|B.O.T. ====Generation 1====
noteukonly

The Protectobots were first shown in a vision show to Buster Witwicky and Optimus Prime by the Matrix. After seeing the vision he ordered the creation of both teams of Autobots seen in it, the Protectobots and Aerialbots. Second Generation!

The Protectobots' first known mission involved accompanying Optimus Prime to stop the Decepticons from stealing a hydrothermocline. They eventually battled the Decepticons within a game world called Multiworld, wherein they trounced the Combaticons with some help from the game's native inhabitants, then as Defensor killed Megatron by dropping them both off a bridge. Megatron cheated, however, and was able to re-create himself in the game. Optimus Prime defeated him for good, but in the real world decided that he'd lost the game as he harmed the video game's natives in doing so. As the game's terms called for the losing leader to be destroyed in the real world, Prime was blown to bits, and the stunned Protectobots hauled his remains back to the Ark in silence. Afterdeath!

The Protectobots later were sent by Grimlock to track down the "traitorous" Blaster and Goldbug. Goldbug was captured by humans, but Blaster was secured after a fight with the Combaticons. Used Autobots A second battle followed as the Protectobots returned to the Ark; as Defensor, the Protectobots were defeated, and saved only because Blaster was freed by some human children. Moved by his example, the Protectobots freed Blaster, and watched as he took the children for a ride in space aboard the captive Blast-Off. Child's Play (issue)

Streetwise subsequently battled Starscream on Earth. Stargazing

The Protectobots are curiously absent from the subsequent giant battle on the moon, Totaled! implying that they were never retrieved from Earth; in fact, they are never shown again in the G1 series — not even to get blown up in the Underbase Saga. However First Aid was subsequently showed as having been deactivated, The Greatest Gift of All! presumably in the Underbase battle.

Generation 2
The Protectobots seem to have been split up; Hot Spot led an assortment of other (non-Protectobot) Autobots on a mission to stop Megatron on Earth, which ended with his self-destruction to avoid capture by Cobra.

Meanwhile, the rest of the team was under Grimlock's command as he took on the second-generation Cybertronians. They joined a mission to destroy the Cybertronian flagship Twilight; Grimlock hadn't quite thought things through, however, and the mission ended with the Autobots held captive. A subsequent rescue mission by Optimus Prime freed the Autobots.

Groove later joined the Aerialbots, Hot Rod, and the Dinobots in a training exercise on a deep space asteroid. Blades suffered rotor damage when he was shot by Rumble on Earth, as part of a Grimlock-led assault force against Megatron's Decepticons to back up Optimus Prime's truce-seeking mission.

Dreamwave Generation 1 comics continuity
As one of the powerful and contested combiner teams, the Protectobots were supposed to remain neutral. However, when the Ultracons recruited Devastator and turned him loose on their enemies, the Protectobots felt they had no choice but to respond. As Defensor, they counter-attacked the Constructicon combiner, but the fragile industrial area around them was being destroyed. Eventually, they succeeded in taking down Devastator as individuals, through careful teamwork.

After the battle, the team tried to figure out why their combined form still wasn't living up to his intellectual potential. Before they could find an answer, the Chaos Trinity attacked the team's secret base. Hot Spot was unwilling to use Defensor, afraid of a repeat of what had happened before. The team was defeated, and Hot Spot taken prisoner. War Within: The Dark Ages

:The Protectobots are fairly standard Scramble City-style toys: four simple, small figures who form the limbs of the combined form, sold carded at the $5 price point, and one larger leader who forms the central torso, sold boxed at $12. All five can combine to form Defensor.

:Unlike the Aerialbots and Stunticons who slightly preceded them, the smaller Protectobots do not share a standard transformation scheme. All feature shoulder swivels as their only notable articulation; some have knee joints, but they are rendered useless by their fused uni-feet. Three of them do have an odd fist design, with the post-hole on the side rather than the top; their guns feature L-shaped grips to compensate. All four small members of the team come with add-on weapons for their vehicle modes. They share a color palette dominated by whites, reds, light grays, and black.

:The team is also notable for having a small amount of kibble storage -- Defensor's chest plates can attach to Hot Spot in vehicle mode, and the combiner's head is integral to Hot Spot.

:The Protectobot molds were later slightly redecorated to make Guard City.

:Knockoffs of the team are quite common. Almost universally, they feature Hot Spot in red, perhaps emulating the later Guard City version of the molds. Not quite so universally, they give creative new names to the team, such as Motorcycle, Patrol Wagon, and Whirlbird. Reduced-scale knockoffs of the team have also been seen.

Other
* A new team of Protectobots was issued as part of the 2005 Universe lineup, but in the absence of any fiction apart from a background cameo, it is unclear if they are meant to have any relation to the Generation 1 characters.

Trivia
* The Protectobots' sudden, unexplained appearance in the animated series is a result of the information on the characters not being delivered to the production staff before the second season's final run of plots were decided upon. Consequently, the team could not be given an "origin" episode, but they were nonetheless inserted into the events of "The Revenge of Bruticus" and "B.O.T." without explanation for where they came from in order to appease Hasbro.
