* Grandus's instructions show that Dai Atlas can use his motor gimmick in vehicle mode to tow Grandus.
* No instructions show this, but in a bizarre case of convergent engineering, Grandus in transport mode can combine with Metroplex himself in transport mode via the pegs on the former's shoulders, and the fist holes on the latter. Jizai Gattai indeed.
* Maybe if Grandus would drive his own ass around for once, he could see his feet!
*Both Sky Garry and Grandus have special attacks relating to things considered "mysterious". In Grandus's case, he possesses the "Stonehenge Kick", which is... interesting, in that he does not have moving legs.
*Grandus was retooled to make the "Dag Base" from Dagwon toyline, Takara's Brave series. Here, it served as both a base and a disturbingly overpowered (once all seven Dagwons are piloting it) "final mecha". Unfortunately, the Dag Base toy has been significantly remolded and somewhat gutted such that he can not be towed in vehicle mode by Star Convoy, and Star Convoy cannot power his elevator in base mode. This is one of many examples of late-run Transformers toys being recycled for a Brave Series release.
*Early Catalog images reveal a very different Grandus, one arm possessing fold-out claws, different placements for his tri-barrel cannons, vastly different airstrip designs, and most notably, the connection cog for use with Star Convoy placed on the back of Grandus in city-mode, rather than the side.
His third mode is a Micromaster base, unique in that it is a large tower. In this mode Sky Garry can also unite with up to three Micro Trailers, or with Sonic Bomber, or with any other Micromaster base using his ramp. The ramp was the same one used by Skyhopper and Groundshaker to connect to other bases.

:Sky Garry's sticker sheet contained a phenomenal 65 decals — not including the 4 optional star decals that one could apply anywhere on the Battlestars. Only 5 of those decals were for Shotbomber, 5 more were for the Micro Trailer, the other 50 were applied to Sky Garry. This gave Sky Garry 53 labels (including the three factory-applied ones), providing him much of his colour and detail.

*Both Sky Garry and Grandus have special attacks relating to things considered "mysterious". In Sky Garry's case, the "mystery circle" of his "Mystery Circle Punch" is the Japanese term for "crop circle". What this was actually supposed to connote is uncertain, but as far as it is known, the attack does not utilize wheat in any way.

* Sky Garry's mold was redecoed into the evil "Deathgarrygun" (デスギャリガン Desugyarigan) mecha for Takara's Brave of Gold Goldran series. This version came with three Micro Trailers, but all of the launching mechanisms were removed from them. This was just one of several late-series Transformers molds recycled for a Brave toyline. The Deathgarrygun toy would later become fairly easy to obtain thanks to its reissue by Sonokong in South Korea. Deathgarrygun toy gallery at a Japanese fansite.

* The word "Garry" isn't an English word, prompting fans to wonder what it's supposed to mean. Sadly, in the end, no one really knows...

:One theory is that Sky Garry's name is a misspelling of "Sky Carry". There is some support for this theory: First, the difference in Japanese between the Katakana for the "Ca" sound and for the "Ga" sound is just two tiny lines. Second, "Garry" is a commonly used suffix in Japanese names for transforming robots that transport ("carry") other robots or vehicles. The criticism of this theory is that while bad transliterations (i.e. the word is spelled right in Japanese, just converted to English wrong) are fairly common in Japanese names, Katakana misspellings of the Japanese words are much less common. Thus, it seems somewhat unlikely that decades of Japanese robots using the name "Garry" are simply misspelling it.

:Another theory is that Garry is short for "Garrison". The support for this theory is that Japanese versions of English words are often shortened versions, such as the Japanese word "Ice" used for "Ice Cream". However, "Garrison" seems like a poorer description than "Carry" for the transportation robots that are generally named "Garry" in Japan.

:The most obscure theory is that Garry is a mistransliteration of Galley, which is a type of ancient war ship. The advantage that this theory has over the "Carry" theory is that "Galley" and "Garry" have the same Japanese Katakana spelling. This means that it would be a bad transliteration, like "Minelba" vs. "Minerva", which is much more common than an incorrect Katakana spelling. However, like the "Garrison" theory, "Galley" is criticized for not being as good a descriptor of the transportation robots (both ground and air types) that are named "Garry".

* In the mid to late-1990s, Sky Garry was one of the most commonly bootlegged Transformers, appearing in several different sizes. Most of them were carded and of poor quality. The carded ones are notable for their extra chrome pieces and separating legs. There was also a bootleg Sky Garry in box packaging from another manufacturer, which saw release at Toys "R" Us in the mid-1990's. The boxed bootleg was of surprisingly high quality.
Following the creation of the Autobot Zone, the Decepticon Emperor Violen Jiger ordered his Nine Great Demon Generals on a campaign to conquer planets and create a Decepticon Zone to counter it. The Decepticons attacked planet Feminia and destroyed it completely, with Victory Saber lost in the destruction. However, Dai Atlas and Sonic Bomber, the Powered Master space explorers, had arrived in time to rescue the badly wounded Autobot Supreme Commander. The Decepticons then shifted their focus to Earth, where they hoped to obtain a powerful energy source called the Zodiac. Dai Atlas and Sonic Bomber intercepted them on Earth, defeated them, and regained the Zodiac. Sonic Bomber and the other Powered Masters attempted to stop him with their "Triple Powered Attack" but failed. Violen Jiger escaped back to the Tenth Planet with the Zodiac and a Galaxy Rocket full of hostages. The Powered Masters then combined into Big Powered and gave chase. Zone (story page)
However, Violen Jiger was not beaten yet. Zone (story page) Violen Jiger returned as a horrible phoenix-thing and attacked. * The Sonic Bomber toy was later redecoed for Takara's Brave Express Might Gaine toyline as "Hiryū" (飛龍), which served as the initial mech of series anti-hero Joe Raibaru. The character model was altered from the toy in various ways, such as more menacing feet and a creepier face, but the toy itself had no remolding. In a seeming nod to the toy's Transformers origins by the Brave staff, the robot was originally dubbed "Sonic" by its creator on the show, but Joe chose to rename it to his liking. Thunderclash
:Thunder Clash is an Autobot from the Generation 1 continuity family. His name is sometimes parsed as Thunderclash.

Thunder Clash is the powerful, intelligent commander-in-chief of the Autobot Turbomasters. Fearless in battle and keen in strategy, he is a force to be reckoned with on the battlefield, his mere appearance sapping the fighting spirit from Decepticon forces. He commands the respect of the Autobots under his authority and the fear of the Decepticon Predators they fight against. Thunder Clash worries not about the air superiority of the Predators, believing that by standing as one, the Turbomasters will be able to resist anything that's thrown at them.

Fiction
Predator Air Attack!
During a Decepticon Predator attack on the Autobot base, Skyquake gazed into his Supersight as he was about to join the battle. Suddenly, "into his Supersight view looms a menacing shape that strikes terror even into his hardened heart..." Predator Air Attack!

Presumably, Thunder Clash and Skyquake fought after this overly dramatic prose.
Wings of Honor
Nine million years ago, Thunder Clash was worried but ready about the growing conflict between Autobot and Decepticon, and often drilled the mechs under his command in the ways of battle, even though his ship, the Eight Track, was stationed on the outer rim of the galaxy. His quick and powerful mind and the ease with which he commanded respect made him an ideal mentor for new recruits.

One such recruit, a young Autobot named Kup, was on board the Eight Track when the ship was hailed by Commander Magnum of Autobot High Command. An important cargo hauler, the Van De Graaff, was shot down by persons unknown over the planet Beta-Nine. Since Decepticons were suspected, Thunder Clash's team was ordered to retrieve the ship's precious cargo before the enemy could get their hands on it.

Indeed, the Decepticons were waiting for the Eight Track when it arrived, and the Eight Track was forced to make a crash landing. Though Landshark managed the landing with no casualties, the wiseass old mech began sowing seeds of uncertainty and fear. Thunder Clash shot Landshark down quickly, reminding him at length that, as Autobots, it didn't matter how many Decepticons there were or how hopeless the situation was—all that mattered was the cargo they were sent after. After leaving their ship's wreck behind them, the four Autobots were suddenly attacked by a fleet of Skyraiders led by Banzai-Tron. Immediately, Kup was separated from them, but Thunder Clash ordered that the young Autobot was on his own while the team found proper cover.

While the Decepticons were momentarily distracted, Thunder Clash told Flak to radio Kup to meet him at the Van De Graaff. On the way, Thunder Clash hoped he could divert a few of the Decepticons away from the other two. Unfortunately, Thunder Clash wasn't able to land a shot on the Decepticon that followed him, and he arrived at Kup's position at the Van De Graaff without being able to rid himself of Skyquake, and now also having Banzai-Tron and Gaihawk to deal with. Kup, however, had an idea. He set a blaster to "overload," placed it in a container, and offered it to Banzai-Tron as terms of their surrender. After it exploded, Banzai-Tron woke up to find Thunder Clash holding his mortar launcher at his head.

Shortly thereafter, a recovery team arrived to take Thunder Clash's crew, their Decepticon prisoners, and the cargo back home. By the time they had returned to Cybertron, the war had officially begun. Commander Magnum, in response to the bravery of Thunder Clash's crew, were inducted into a special new Autobot military unit, the Elite Guard. Wings of Honor

A few years later, Thunder Clash's team joined with Metalhawk's team to battle a horde of Virulent Clones. The two teams of Elite Guardsmen were victorious. Magnum contacted Thunder Clash to let him know that their R&R was being cut short, and Thunder Clash's team proceeded to Space Port Bravo, where they were assigned the ship Beast With Wings. The Coming Storm: Part 2

The squad was returning to Elite Guard HQ in the Beast With Wings, when they discovered that they were unable to raise anyone on the ground. Thunder Clash reacted in disbelief as Kup reported a newsfeed that HQ had been attacked by Bruticus and pretty much everyone had been killed. The Coming Storm: Part 6 Thunder Clash and the other surviving members of the Elite Guard joined Magnum at the Autobot High Council Citadel intending to show the Council that the Guard was still functional. Thunder Clash thought that Dion should be resting from his injuries, but Dion asserted he really had to be there to support Magnum. As it turned out, the Council were busy appointing Optimus Prime as the leader of a new Autobot military anyway. Battle Lines, Part 1

Not to be outdone, Magnum took the Elite Guard to find Deathsaurus's base, first stopping off at the Elite Guard Auxiliary Weapons Locker for guns and a few extra troops. Battle Lines, Part 2 It wasn't long before they were attacked by Deathsaurus's troops, including Starscream, the Combaticons and Deathsaurus himself. Thunder Clash instructed the others to keep between the Combaticons so they couldn't merge, and traded blows with Blades while Onslaught tried to taunt him over his failure to be in time to help defend Elite Guard HQ. As the Combaticons merged, they were promptly blasted, and Thunder Clash could only stare at the newcomers. Battle Lines, Part 3 He came to the aid of Magnum, sending Lyzack flying with a punch after she damaged Magnum with her sword. He was helping Magnum up when they were again faced with Deathsaurus, however this time Sprocket jumped in to save them. In the aftermath of the battle, Thunder Clash asked Magnum what they'd do next, but Magnum decided they needed to return to base for repairs. Battle Lines, Part 4
Falcon was for some reason under the command of Skydive during their attack on the Autobot Turbomaster base. He didn't seem to mind, though, and rained death on his Autobot targets. Predator Air Attack!

Nine million years ago, Falcon was a servant of Deathsaurus, one of the Decepticon Warlords active at the dawn of the Great War. He assembled a report on the Elite Guard Special Ops Team for Deathsaurus after their agent Flipsides reported on the incident at Median. Flames of Yesterday After capturing these "Combaticons" in the field, Falcon and Vanquish held them prisoner in Deathsaurus's lair until the warlord was ready to meet with them. As part of Deathsaurus's psychological ploy against the Autobots, Falcon feigned that it was all a big misunderstanding, that the Combaticons were meant to be treated as honored guests, not prisoners. Riiiiiight. The Coming Storm: Part 4

Falcon frequently served as Deathsaurus's representative among the Decepticon War Council meetings. Except for Megatron's vassal Shockwave, Falcon was the only non-Warlord who attended the meetings. Deathsaurus valued the insight into his fellow Warlords that Falcon's attendance brought him, but clearly viewed Megatron as his primary rival for total control over the Decepticons. After Megatron conscripted the Constructicons and Photons into his service and stopped sending any representative to the Council, Deathsaurus decided to cut his losses. The unwitting Falcon was sent into the next meeting with a powerful bomb disguised as a holo-message from Deathsaurus himself. The resulting explosion killed the five remaining Warlords besides Deathsaurus and Megatron, along with the pitifully loyal Falcon. A Team Effort
When Optimus Prime was downed in battle and under imminent attack by several Decepticons, Wing Saber swooped to the rescue by blasting away the Decepticons and combining with Optimus Prime. With this new power, Optimus Prime was able to defeat Shockblast and Megatron. During a Decepticon uprising, Shockblast escaped his prison. Alpha Q: Identity Wing Dagger and his friend Padlock pursued him, but Shockblast ended up killing Padlock.

During a Decepticon assault on Cybertron, Wing Dagger lassoed Shockblast with energy bands, but the powerful Decepticon simply pulled him up into the air. As they wove through the sky among the energon towers, the Decepticon blasted one of the towers, causing it to crash down upon Wing Dagger and Tidal Wave. Tidal Wave survived with damage, but Wing Dagger died. Each One Fights...

Wing Dagger's inert form was taken to Primus. Unicron Unleashed With the aid of Rad, Primus restored the warrior, imbuing him with a Spark of Combination. Open Fire! Reformatted into Wing Saber, he joined Optimus's team not only to find energon, but to avenge the death of his friend.

Wing Saber, having been reformatted and re-powered by Primus himself, understood his task of being Optimus Prime's personal servant. Optimus Prime reminded Wing Saber that he was not Prime's property, and Wing Saber seemed to have issues figuring out who he was. He went with Optimus's team as they pursued Megatron into a fledgling new dimension. Ripped Up Space

Wing Saber eventually faced off with Shockblast again on Iron Planet. Shockblast was defeated at last; Padlock was avenged, and justice was served. Protection

Shockblast escaped about a day later. Wing Saber didn't seem to notice much. Imprisoned Inferno

Wing Saber was among the gathered troops who joined with Optimus Prime in spark form to confront the massive Galvatron-Unicron fusion. Like the others, he was restored to his own body after the battle's conclusion. The Sun
Some time after Galvatron's defeat, Wing Saber underwent a falling out with Optimus Prime involving the life of a stranded astronaut and took off into space. United (episode) He returned during the search for the Cyber Planet Keys when he encountered the Omega Frequency wave after the Speed Planet Key was inserted into the Omega Lock on Earth. He approached the Earth at a breakneck speed, blazing like a meteor. Reaching the volcanic island where his comrades were doing battle with the Decepticons, he nailed Megatron with missiles before the Decepticon could fire his Death Machine Gun at Optimus Prime. Jetfire, while not entirely happy to see Wing Saber again, provided him with an Earth vehicle mode, a powerful fighter-bomber. Wing Saber now showed signs of a new, defiant attitude toward his former allies, even to the point of violence. He fired at Hot Shot's feet when the latter questioned him once, but cooled down, with Jetfire explaining to a worried Lori that "That's just how he is." However, Wing Saber quickly found himself part of the team again, taking to the air to dogfight with Megatron and keep him away from Starscream and the Omega Lock. Assault

Wing Saber continued to battle Megatron while Optimus Prime and Vector Prime pursued the Lock, and later rescued Vector Prime after Starscream's growth to skyscraper size caused an eruption. Thunderblast attempted to stop them from leaving, but was defeated by Wing Saber's Cyber Key cannon. Starscream (episode)

Several attempts to take Starscream down were made, all of which failed. After Starscream thwarted one attempt by filling the air between him and the Autobots with chunks of rock, Wing Saber was reminded of the mission in the Chaar asteroid belt. He suggested trying the same trick again, and attempted to link up with Optimus. The attempt failed, but Prime agreed the method from the first attempt to clear the asteroids worked. Wing Saber and Prime flew together through the boulders to reach clear sky, which led to reviving his ability to combine with Optimus Prime to create their Sonic Wing Mode. Wing Saber took the place of Prime's Super Mode backpack, lending his leader his weapons and his powerful jet engines. This and the power of the merge allowed Optimus to deliver a powerful slashing blow to Starscream, knocking him out. United (episode)

charstubfiction

In the battle to reclaim the Lock and Keys from Galvatron, Wing Saber once again linked up with Prime into Sonic Wing Mode. His powerful engines and his speed helped Optimus pursue the Omega Lock into the depths of the Unicron Singularity. and snatch it back just before it reached the point of no return. End Wing Saber helped realign one of the rockets that propelled the Jungle Planet through the space bridge back to its proper orbit, and then watched as his leader dealt Galvatron a fatal sword blow, at long last ending the war. Unfinished While preparations for the renewed Space Bridge Project were being completed Wing Saber departed and eventually encountered (and dueled with) the mighty Starscream, who had somehow survived his duel with Galvatron on the Giant Planet. **Accessories: Left & right blades, 2 blade-handles, left & right spring-loaded missile launchers, 2 missiles, Autobot Cybertron-planet Cyber Key
: Cybertron Wing Saber transforms into a heavily armed military plane based on an A-10 Thunderbolt. Pressing the button behind his cockpit canopy causes a machine gun sound to emit from a speaker on the bottom of the nosecone. Plugging a Cyber Planet Key into the key slot behind his canopy splits the nosecone fuselage in half and exposes a cannon with a red LED. Pressing the button activates the same machine gun sound effect, this time with the red LED flashing.

:Wing Saber's wing-flaps detach to form swords; for Wing Saber to use them, they need to be inserted into sword-handles that plug into 5mm holes in his forearms, as his hands are incompatible with the standard weapon-pegs. His removable spring-loaded missile launchers, mounted under his wings, can also be attached to those ports. Wing Saber can also form a backpack for Leader class Optimus Prime's super mode, forming their Sonic Wing Mode.

:Wing Saber comes with a silver-bordered Cybertron planet Autobot Cyber Key with the key code uya7 printed on the back.

:The vast majority of Takara's Galaxy Force GC-22 Sonic Bomber figures have a misaligned "nose guard" that can obscure the eyes in some cases. This problem was fixed for the Hasbro Wing Saber figure. The Sonic Bomber figure preceded Hasbro's Wing Saber by several months and has a slightly different deco. Differences include silver chromed saber blades and a gold chromed chest shield. Minor changes were also made to graphics on the plane, such as an entirely red nosecone as opposed to Sonic Bomber's red striped, and smaller Autobot insignias on the wings.

:Takara issued a slight Sonic Bomber redeco as a (rushed) Toys "R" Us exclusive set with transparent Galaxy Convoy and a retool of "Rumble" as "Rumble Coby version". Sonic Bomber received only very minor changes; the saber blades were changed from silver chrome to gold chrome, all red paint was changed to metallic red, and the chest shield halves were now red chrome rather than gold. Benefiting from a Hasbro tweak, this version also has a properly aligned "nose guard".
*Optimus Prime and Wing Saber (2-pack, 2006)

:This set, consisting of totally unmodified versions of Cybertron Optimus Prime and Wing Saber, was released as a CostCo exclusive. The set also includes a DVD with the Cybertron episode "United". This set comes in a particularly huge box, and retailed for $35.99, five dollars less than the MSRP for Optimus Prime by himself.

Notes
* Energon Wing Saber was a toy-concept initiated by Takara and left largely to their own design team to develop, though they had to follow various Hasbro price-point mandates. The toy was detail-designed by noted Japanese fan Hirofumi Ichikawa and incorporates elements of fan-favorites Predaking and Star Saber.

* Ichikawa originally envisioned Wing Saber's personal weapon to be the Energon Saber. This was nixed by the animation production staff, however, along with many other toy-team concepts.

* Energon Wing Saber was originally named Superion Maximus for his western incarnation, but the name was shelved in favor of simply reusing the established Japanese name. "Superion Maximus" was reused for the combined form of the Energon Air Team shortly thereafter.

* Wing Saber's bio on Transformers.com, first appearing under the "Superion Maximus" title, was largely different from anything else, wherein "Wing Saber" was a venerable defender of high ranking Autobots and was the personal carrier of the Autobot high council.

* Cybertron Wing Saber's original prototype featured a different vehicle mode nosecone design than seen on the final toy. As revealed by the Japanese online retailer Amenbo.com on April 29 2005, the original sculpt had a much greater resemblance to the A-10 Thunderbolt, with a rounded nose cone, a correctly shaped (translucent) canopy, and twin translucent gatling cannons. It's possible that the change from this more realistic sculpt to the entirely opaque one seen on the final toy occurred in order to avoid licensing issues.

*Cybertron Wing Saber was originally named "Knockout", but this was presumably shelved to have another preexisting character in the series.
