Sideswipe and company work to save Earth as the Expansion comes to its shattering end.

Synopsis
Hound's team arrives on Earth to attack Grindcore and Straxus. Sideswipe postulates to himself that everyone thinks he wanted to come to Earth for Sunstreaker. This is true, but not for the reason they think... Sideswipe reveals that Sunstreaker has treated him like a rookie all his life, and he sees rescuing him from whatever trouble he's gotten himself into as a way of stepping out of his shadow. He seems more than happy to kick Grindcore's skidplate while the others secure the space bridge, and Ultra Magnus gives them all a convenient rundown of what is going on.

At the Benzuli Expanse, the crew of the Mirror-Manifold is about to be destroyed by Cyclonus, but they are beamed out seconds before their ship explodes by the Technobots in the Nightbird. The Autobot scientists waste no time in presenting them with their own personal Pretender carapaces. They exit the cargo ship, wanting to take on Cyclonus personally.

Meanwhile, Jetfire works at Garrus-9 with an axis cradle to subdue the enslaved Thunderwing on Corata-Vaz, giving Springer and his crew the chance to get to the Nega-Core. Unfortunately, the plan suffers a minor setback when Bludgeon (under the control of Jhiaxus) cuts through the wall, distracting Jetfire enough to reactivate the monstrosity.

Upstairs, things take an unexpected turn for Nemesis Prime. The so-called "Darkness" he covets seems more interested in the new Prime, reaching out to Optimus Prime. It seems the Darkness is not so different from the Matrix, seeking to be passed on to a successor. Nemesis is no longer in charge of the power, but will not take it lying down. He unleashes an attack on Optimus, keeping him at a distance to keep in control. Optimus tries to reason with him, but Nemesis is not swayed, convinced that it is the next evolutionary step and that the Cybertronians will serve as a template for a new species. Optimus is determined to stop him, as someone watches from the shadows...

On Earth, Sideswipe tells Hound and the others to leave the Cybertronians to him, to which Hound responds it was an honor to serve with him. The group splits up, the majority of them going to grab the Nega-Cores while Skram fetches Arcee from beating on Monstructor. The young Autobot realizes it is a losing battle, but he regards it as a good way to die; he feels his rivalry with Sunstreaker is nothing compared to what is going on, and if anything, he has proven to himself what he is capable of doing.

Things seem to be falling apart for Jhiaxus. He stops himself from killing Jetfire, and the Autobot knows there is too much for him to handle all at once, what with the Pretenders breaching the Benzuli Expanse and the Nega-Cores being removed from their locations. Just as Hot Rod reports that the fourth space bridge leads to Gorlam Prime, Arcee is already there, slicing off the Cybertronian's arm before he can do anything else.

Meanwhile, things look bleak for Optimus Prime, but he is determined to stop Nemesis Prime. But just as the fallen Prime counts his victory, Galvatron blasts his leader in the back. Nemesis falls over dead, while the Darkness finally enters Optimus. Prime resists as best he can, but it is a losing battle...until Galvatron offers him a choice: kill himself in the nearby solar pool, or willingly pass on the Darkness to the one who has desired it for so long. It was the reason he plunged the first Ark into the Dead Universe, and he wants what he feels is rightfully his. Optimus seems to relent, reaching out to Galvatron... but at the last minute, just as he passes on the power, he hurls the surprised bot into the pool. Optimus looks over the body of Nemesis, telling himself that he can't mourn him because, in truth, Nova Prime died a long time ago.

The Pretenders successfully push the stasis-trapped Nega-Cores into the Expanse, getting out just before they explode and cause the anomaly to close. The effect is felt all over the galaxy; Sideswipe turns to see Straxus and Grindcore dead, cut off from the power of the Dead Universe. He beams himself back to his ship, finding after all he went through, he just doesn't care about Sunstreaker anymore, and perhaps never did in the end...

Meanwhile, Jhiaxus flees the rampaging Arcee, who is cutting through his Micromasters, and heads for the gateway below. He is sure she will not cross over and sacrifice her life in this universe... but reckons without the reappearance of Hardhead—now a permanent resident of the Dead Universe—who distracts the ancient Cybertronian long enough for Arcee to tear him to pieces. Arcee comments on Jhiaxus's inability to die, to which Hardhead remarks that while the amoral scientist is on the border of the two universes, he is practically immortal. This seems to suit Arcee fine, and she decides simply to kill Jhiaxus again. And again. And again...

Some time later, Jetfire muses on what has happened. He has been keeping an eye on Gorlam Prime, the residents out of their chrysalis period, evolving into something very different. In fact, the planet is no longer called Gorlam Prime. The locals now call it Cybertron. For the Autobots, it has not been an easy time; certain events have driven them to the brink. But at least for the fallen Cybertronians, it is finally ended. The Expansion is over.

But not quite. Back on Garrus-9, someone has survived...
Quotes
"Earth -- At last! The others think it's all about Sunstreaker. And it is. Just not in the way they think. All I want is to save his sorry hide and step out of his shadow forever!"
:—Sideswipe, full of angst.

"Congratulations, Jetfire, you have graduated from an irritation to a full blown nuisance. And in doing so... You merit an untidy death."
:—Jhiaxus thinks a mere spanking is too lenient.

"I command The Darkness, Optimus Prime, not you."<br />
"It... commands you!"
:—Nemesis Prime refuses to believe Optimus Prime's assertion that he's yesterday's Prime.

"What's the matter, Jhiaxus...things not quite going to plan? Can't quite manage Bludgeon and...be aware of what's happening on other fronts? Maybe you're worried, maybe you're wondering just how much we all ready know..and how much more we'll find out? Question is, can you afford the time and effort to kill me...with your entire strategy about to fall apart?"
:—Jetfire mocks Jhiaxus' inability to multi-task.

"Cold. Ancient. Terrible. Wonderful. Heart of darkness, it speaks to me. Please no, let me be strong."
:—Optimus Prime, member of the Royal Shakespeare Company.

"I wish I could find it within me to mourn your passing, Nova Prime, but in truth you died a long time ago. The part of you that mattered, the part of you that was a Prime, was lost as soon as you turned away from the light...and embraced the Darkness."<br>
:—Optimus Prime will not mourn Nova Prime, but he will eulogize him.

"In the calm after the storm, I think of Sunstreaker. Maybe alive, maybe dead, certainly in some kind of purgatory... Possibly of his own making! And I find I just don't care. Maybe I never did. I trigger my Orbital Jump recall... And don't look back."
:—Sideswipe.

"Yeah? Hm. Actually, that suits me fine. Means I can keep killing him... Again... And again... And again... And again..."
:—Arcee finally gets her happy ending. Jhiaxus has had better days.

Notes
* E. J. Su handled full art duties on this issue; penciling, inking and coloring the entire issue. The result is beautiful.
* The original plan was for Sideswipe actually to catch up with Sunstreaker and realize "he's no longer just Sunstreaker!" The story would also delve into what a "brother" was for a Transformer, whereas in the printed version, there's no mention of brotherhood at all. The printed version clearly features a darker and less brotherly version of Sideswipe and Sunstreaker's relationship.
* Despite this being Sideswipe's Spotlight issue, the titular character only appears on a mere 7 out of 22 pages.
* In a reply on his blog before "Spotlight: Sideswipe" was released, Simon Furman warned in advance, "I know for a fact not everyone's going to be happy with the way Revelation plays out" due to the sheer amount of stuff that had to be crammed into a final issue.
* Due to the truncated nature of Revelation, several threads are left hanging, most notably the fates of Monstructor and Sixshot. Due to the existence of Decepticon gestalts a year later, Furman has said we should assume the Decepticons got hold of Monstructor and that he likes the idea that the Autobots executed an offline Thunderwing and Sixshot (He would like the idea of killing more characters off). However, Sixshot would later reappear in "Spotlight: Metroplex" and explain that the Decepticons revived him in exchange for Jhiaxus's technology. Bludgeon and Monstructor show up later as well, leaving Thunderwing as the only one "officially" unaccounted for.
* The Autobot Pretender shells are different from the Decepticon ones seen previously in IDW's storyline; there's no indication these could transform, and they resemble armored suits rather than organic horrors. Unlike the toys, the armor does not make them look like 50-foot-tall humans.
* The final transformation of Gorlam Prime into a new Cybertron is similar to the backstory of the GoBots; it also calls back to "Spotlight: Nightbeat", in which Nightbeat wondered if the original Cybertron had once been an organic world, only for everyone to "upgrade" themselves.
* Arcee is freaking terrifying.
* In closing, Jetfire makes references to other miniseries: All Hail Megatron, and the then-upcoming Maximum Dinobots.
* Originally (the differently plotted) Revelation would have led into the six-issue miniseries Expansion, until the latter was canceled in favor of All Hail Megatron.
* Due to the truncated nature of the series, the outcome of the fight between Banzaitron's team and Monstructor is not revealed. It will later be confirmed that Monstructor was captured and that Axer, Gutcruncher, and the Combaticons survived but the fate of Banzaitron himself is unknown.

Errors
* Both Cover A and Cover B have an errant extra Autobot symbol floating around. On Cover A, it is located on Sideswipe's right forearm, and on Cover B, it is located in Sideswipe's armpit. Darn you, Photoshop layers!
* In the one scene he appears in, Blast-Off is drawn as being extremely large in robot mode as compared to the other Combaticons. This might have been an attempt on E.J. Su's part to justify Blast-Off's usual space shuttle alt-mode without resorting to size changing. This makes sense, until you consider that the Combaticons haven't taken Earth vehicle modes at this point in the continuity. Also consider that Blast-Off has appeared twice before, in Stormbringer and "Spotlight: Arcee" and both times he was depicted as being normal or average-sized as compared to his comrades.
* When Galvatron asks for the Darkness, he forgets to use the word "to".

Synopsis
On Nebulos, the modifications to the Autobots' heads are nearly complete. All that is left is to select their partners. Duros, the combat veteran, takes Hardhead; Arcana, the oldest and wisest among them, takes Brainstorm; Stylor takes Chromedome; Gort takes Highbrow; and Daniel is placed in Arcee. Upon activating, the Autobots feel different and decide to make a test run. The Headmaster process is thus proven as good an idea as Brainstorm believed, as with the rebels' guidance, the Autobots trash the Hive's machines. Satisfied with their trial run, the Autobots and rebels decide that it's time to get the Key to the Plasma Energy Chamber. But the Hive is watching and recognizes Gort and Arcana within the robots. Some of them decide it's time to bring the pain, but their leader decides to watch...

Meanwhile, on Cybertron, the battle between the Autobots and the Decepticons appears evenly matched. However, there is no sign of Hot Rod and Kup's team, or the Key. Optimus Prime decides that it's time to find some answers, and leaves the battle, with Ultra Magnus following.

Back on Nebulos, Scourge is torturing the captive Autobots for the key, to the amusement of Apeface. However, Cyclonus realizes that these Autobots don't have the Key, or the others would be all over them. Bad choice of words, as the Autobot Headmasters appear. They quickly overwhelm the Decepticons and free the captives, taking the Decepticon ship in the process. Some of the Hive members believe that the Decepticons should be destroyed as well, but their leader has other plans. Capturing the Decepticons, Lord Zarak offers them a deal: Submit to the Headmaster process and allow the Hive to be their partners, giving them the strength to destroy the Autobots. Scourge tells them to get bent, but Zarak reveals that the offer was only a formality. Grabbing the Decepticons, Cyclonus and Scourge agree to deal, but only with the heads of the animals. Apeface objects, but Cyclonus shows him who is boss. The "vehicle" Decepticons offer their weapons. Zarak agrees, and the modifications begin.

Back on Cybertron, Optimus and Magnus have reached the source of the Autobot leader's quest: the chamber of Vector Sigma. Using the Matrix as an interface, Prime activates the supercomputer to communicate with the spirit of Alpha Trion. Alpha explains that the Key is on Nebulos, and that Vector Sigma arranged for Galvatron to learn of it. All of this is being done to bring about a second Golden Age, which depends on the merging of a human with an Autobot. Before the discussion is ended, Alpha Trion tells Prime to preserve the key at all costs. Prime is confused, but it's kinda hard to argue with God's will, after all. Optimus departs for Nebulos, leaving Ultra Magnus in command of the Autobots until his return.

On Nebulos, the modifications are complete, and the Hive members bond with the Decepticons. Zarak, however, remains behind, having plans for the Hive's city. Meanwhile, the Autobots are dragging the ship to the rebel base, when Cerebros arrives, badly damaged and mumbling that he found a city. The Autobots are able to stabilize him, but the Decepticons show up. Brainstorm is pissed that the Decepticons have their own Headmasters. He's even more pissed when Mindwipe takes the Key from him. However, Brainstorm manages to run a scan on Nightstick before the Decepticons run off. Using the scans gives Hot Rod and Kup an idea. Sometime later, Optimus Prime lands and is introduced to the Headmasters and the Targetmasters. With this force, the Autobots prepare to retake the Key.

Elsewhere, the Decepticons are getting grumpy, having to wait for Zarak and with nothing to shoot. Their boredom is relieved when Prime leads the Autobots in an attack. Arcee and Daniel manage to take the Key and get it to Prime. The Autobots circle Prime and Arcee, vowing to let nothing get through. However, from beneath them, Zarak raises the Hive's city. Suddenly, it begins to transform into something else. The city lands on the ground, and from the dust rises... Scorponok!

Notes
Animation or technical glitches
* Arcee's chest is entirely pink in several shots (like when Daniel first merges with her).
* The Autobot's heads are depicted as huge next to the Nebulons, and positively cavernous inside. Later, the heads are shown to transform into human-scaled exo-suits.
* When Hardhead rips off the tentacle from the machine, the electricity effects are not backlit to glow.
* Magnus is missing some of the blue at the top of his chest as Punch drives up to report.
* In the first shot across the Decepticon camp, someone - Slugslinger, presumably, though he's pretty off-model - is colored like Sinnertwin.
* As Blurr and Kup are interrogated, Blurr has sprouted a pair of lips (which lap over his "goatee" as he talks), and Kup is using his alternate character model (previously used in "Chaos" as Kup's younger self).
* When Kup is being stretched on the wrack, the channels that are supposed to be pulling at his wrists are missing.
* Apeface's ape head is all white during his "Yuck!" lines.
* When the newly created Autobot Headmasters attack the Decepticons to reclaim their Targetmaster-to-be comrades, Sureshot is missing.
* Scourge's gun (as well as most of the Headmaster's guns) use the same sound effect as Optimus Prime's rifle.
* Nobody can make up their mind how to pronounce Scourge's name; in barely 30 seconds, we get "Skerge" two times with a "Skoorge" in-between.
* Arcana transforms and lands on top of Brainstorm's cockpit, rather than riding inside it.
* How in the world does Arcee's head turn into an exosuit identical to Daniel and Spike's standard suits?
* Cyclonus and Scourge leap off the Decepticon ship and run away from it... then are immediately shown running up to it as it starts to explode from the Autobot assault.
* Vector Sigma is transparent as it rises into place.
* The Matrix shell glows in this episode; it was burned out ("empty") the last time we saw it.
* Optimus' mouthplate isn't moving in several shots as he talks with Alpha Trion.
* After speaking with Alpha Trion, the vertical line in missing on Optimus' abs/grille.
* The first claws to lunge toward Scourge and Cyclonus are showing coming out of the <strike>clear blue</strike> cloudy pink sky.
* Triggerhappy is colored entirely in shades of gray as the claws grab Scourge and Cyclonus.
* Snapdragon and Skullcruncher are missing as the Decepticons get to their feet inside the Hive's base.
* At minute 8:40 of the episode, Zarak is shown with brown eye brows, which are normally white.
* After the first commercial break, Zarak and company are depicted as larger than the Decepticons.
* Several Hive members recycle the character models for Kranix and other Lithone inhabitants - who are robots.

* Throughout the episode, Mindwipe's face changes back and forth between two large square eyes and a conjoined eyeband. When he removes his head, he has a new face altogether - maybe one of the otherwise-unused pre-Headmaster head designs.
* As he says, "We don't make deals with organic creatures," Scourge's head crest is overly huge and red, and his face has a black line through the middle of it.
* In the group shot after the to-be Decepticon Headmasters remove their heads, one of the Decepticons with a missing head is Triggerhappy, who's destined to become a Targetmaster.
* Among the line of waiting Hive exo-suits are Triggerhappy, Slugslinger and Misfire. In the same scene, all the Hive members are shown as beige Lithone robots, even though some have already been shown to be green-skinned organic humanoids.
* Odd shot blocking makes Nightstick look almost as tall as Cyclonus as he walks up to him.
* Nightstick has gone from black to purple as Cyclonus holds him in weapon mode.
* Aimless and Caliburst don't seem to have any gun handles. This is reinforced in the third act, when Misfire is shown holding Aimless with two hands.
* Caliburst's blue disappears during his "See, would I lie to ya?" line.
* Vorath is drawn as Monzo when Mindwipe hypnotises him, and is colored entirely gray (not the right color for either character.)
* Monzo is drawn as Vorath and has Grax's voice. And he's looking at Skullcruncher (who already bonded with Grax) colored as Weirdwolf. In the following shot, Monzo and Weirdwolf bond.
* The Decepticon ship being towed by the Autobots is suddenly completely intact. It's also ridiculously small - barely large enough for one robot to fit inside of, if the whole bridge opened like a cockpit. In the same shot, an unidentifiable truck that's not Kup is colored like him.
* In the shot where Hot Rod says, "We've got company!," the top part of Arcee's head is missing.
* Everyone suddenly has Optimus Prime's rifle sound effect as the Decepticons attack the Autobots at the caves.
* When Weirdwolf transforms, his head (Monzo) detaches and transforms... and a second copy of his head (ie, another Monzo) flies out from behind Mindwipe and also transforms.
* Brainstorm's face is completely gray (instead of gold) when he says "Go hang upside down from a tree, Mindwipe!"
* In the big group shot as Prime walks up, Sureshot has been replaced by some red guy with white lower legs. Hot Rod and Blurr appear to have all-gray heads. Arcee's head is squished into a cylinder shape.
* In the only shot in the whole story of Blurr holding Haywire, Haywire is drawn as Blurr's regular gun. The very next shot shows gun-mode Recoil instead.
* "Zarak's modifications are nearly finished!" Once again, the Head/Targetmaster partners are nearly as large as the Transformers themselves.
* As Optimus stands on the hill above the Hive facility, the sides of his chest which should be grey are red instead.
* As he taunts Optimus, Scourge's face is black on the bottom
* Optimus Prime accidentally refers to Scourge as 'Sclurge' when the latter taunts the Autobots. Immediately after, Cyclonus gives the order to "Ennihilate them!" Riiiight.

Continuity errors
* Superhuman Spike has become super-genius Spike, magically rebuilding Autobot heads into transformable exo-suits with virtually no tools or facilities.
* If the rebels are so pathologically afraid of machines, why do they have the claws that re-attach the Autobots' heads to their bodies?
* Daniel is supposed to be critically injured and on life support machines, yet there's no sign of them aside from a funky helmet. And then even that goes away when he's placed into Arcee's head.
* Where do Chromedome and Arcee go during the fight with the Hive machines?
* Brainstorm addresses his first line to Scourge... but it's in response to something that Cyclonus said.
* When the Decepticons are abducted by the Hive, they land next to a machine based on Scorponok's city mode... right down to the Decepticon symbol already in place on it.
* Last episode, Gort claimed that "the Hive's bodies are withered and useless" due to their extreme hibernation and dependency of technology as a means of survival. Yet Lord Zarak is freaking jacked and ripped like Franco Columbu when we finally see him. Intel must not be too good on Nebulos.
* Optimus correctly guesses that the Matrix could activate Vector Sigma. That idea didn't strike him when Alpha Trion sacrificed his life to activate it in "The Key to Vector Sigma, Part 2". The real-world answer, of course, is that the concept didn't exist back then.
* Alpha Trion's description of plasma energy's effects is gibberish. "Any entity that transforms matter into energy" includes pretty much any form of life, including the organic life which he then says is immune.
* What seems to be a cut script line results in one of the most awesome errors in the whole series. Aimless walks up to Misfire and says, "I live only to destroy our mutual enemies!" Misfire responds "I think the name Aimless suits you better!" As many fans have wondered, did Misfire think his partner was introducing himself as "I, Live-Only-To-Destroy-Our-Mutual-Enemies"?
* A character model incongruity becomes apparent when Apeface and Snapdragon join with their new partners. On both their toys, the Headmaster figure becomes the head of both the robot and the creature mode. However, the model designers (or the animators, or both) didn't get the memo. Both robots are shown in their beast modes while separated from their smaller partners... who clearly have the beast mode faces on their backs!
* Right after the Decepticons steal the key from the Autobots, Spike says that "they can fly and you guys can't"... to Brainstorm and Highbrow, who both transform into flying vehicles.
* When Krunk is removing the key to the Plasma Energy Chamber from Brainstorm's body and declares, "The key, I have it!", Brainstorm's Headmaster partner Arcana replies, "Ah ha, but I have you, Nightstick!" before Krunk leaves with the Key. Why not just, you know, grab Krunk?
* What kind of great strategy is it to throw away your gun as soon as the battle starts? Instead of a robot with a big gun, you wind up with a weaponless robot and a little guy firing a much smaller gun.
* In the Autobots' counterattack after Prime's arrival, how does Arcee know Scourge has the key? Cyclonus is the highest-ranking Decepticon in the bunch.

Continuity notes
* Both Vector Sigma and Alpha Trion make a reappearance here, after long absences.
* Vector Sigma suddenly gains a whole lot of new powers, having complex plans and motives of its own, and arranging for certain events to happen in the outside world. Outside the realm of the cartoon, this would eventually be retconned as Primus working his god shtick.

Real-world references
* The Hive line "exterminate, exterminate" is the catch-phrase of Doctor Whos Daleks, deliberately included by writer David Wise, who is a huge Doctor Who fan. It's appropriate, too, since the Daleks were also alien beings who lived in mechanical bodies to compensate for the severe atrophy of their real bodies.

Trivia
* Optimus seems rather dazed and confused throughout this entire episode. It's as if coming back from the dead left him as more of an old man than the hero from earlier episodes.
* Cyclonus seems frighteningly willing to murder Apeface over a minor disagreement. Why not just let Apeface be a Targetmaster instead? Considering how few soldiers are on hand right now it seems like quite a risk to start shooting them right and left and still expect to be able to take on the Autobots.
* After Spasma and Krunk tell the Horrorcons to stay in line, Spasma spits on the floor. This causes a small trail of smoke to fume from the ground suggesting that Spasma's spit was some kind of corrosive acid. That's hardcore.
Megatron captures and reprograms Rhinox into a Predacon. It doesn't turn out very well.

Synopsis
In some usual rocky terrain, the Maximals are disappointed to learn that their day's expedition has been a waste of time, as the energon they were searching for is inaccessible. Rattrap whines, saying the situation couldn't get worse, prompting an attack from the Predacons. The Maximals are at a clear disadvantage, but Rhinox triggers a rockslide that crushes all the Predacons.

Optimus Primal commends Rhinox's intelligent tactics, and the Maximals begin their return to base. Megatron also determines that Rhinox is a major threat to his operation and orders Tarantulas to capture the large Maximal. When Rhinox is a distance behind the other Maximals on the road home, the spider captures Rhinox and knocks the rhino out with some cyber venom.

A while later, the Maximals noticed their large comrade has disappeared. Rattrap activates his communicator, and are able to listen through Rhinox's communicator, overhearing the events in the Predacon base where Megatron uses "the Transmuter" to turn Rhinox into an evil Predacon. While the Maximals are concerned, Optimus Primal plans to wait a while before the Maximals make an effort to rescue their friend, yessssssss...

In the Predacon base, Megatron, and his new underling, Evil Rhinox, get down to plotting on how they can use Rhinox's knowledge to destroy the Maximals—but some technical problems with Megatron's computer halt the planning session. Rhinox is sent to check up on Scorponok's repair of the system (which was secretly vandalised by Rhinox). With no witnesses, Rhinox drops several tons of hardware onto Scorponok. When Scorponok's flattened body is found later by Megatron and Waspinator, they have no clue who committed the crime.

Waspinator deposits Scorponok into a CR chamber for repair, but flying away, Waspinator is hit with a heavy piece of weight pushed by Rhinox. The impact drives Waspinator into a state of dementia. This time, Rhinox's attempt at homicide is witnessed by Terrorsaur, who meets with Rhinox in private. There, Rhinox declines Terrorsaur's offer of partnership and insists that Terrorsaur stay silent. Later, Megatron discovers that Tarantulas and Blackarachnia have been poisoned. Still oblivious, a furious Megatron shouts out his confusion.

Outside of the Predacon base, Cheetor figures out Optimus Primal's plan: leave Rhinox as he is, so he'll run roughshod over the Predacons. But knowing that Megatron will eventually wise up, the Maximals get ready to mount a rescue. At the same time, Scorponok has been repaired, and he tells Megatron what happened to him. Megatron concludes that his little experiment has gone wrong, and decides to end it—and Rhinox as well.

Megatron confronts Rhinox, and assigns Scorponok and Terrorsaur to disarm the new recruit. By mentioning Terrorsaur's plotting, Rhinox is able to get the two Predacon goons to fight each other instead of himself, leaving them as easy pickings. With those two taken care of, he opens fire on Megatron, causing the Predacon to fall off his hover platform.

Rhinox taunts Megatron with a speech about who's the boss now, but Rhinox has stepped into the range of the Transmuter. Megatron reactivates the machine, converting Rhinox back to his regular good self. The Maximals blast their way into the base. Optimus Primal battles with Megatron, slicing off one of the Predacon leader's arms. A stray shot from the still demented Waspinator hits the Transmuter, and the Maximals grab Rhinox and evacuate while the Predacons take cover to avoid being harmed by the exploding machine.

Afterward, the Maximals relax. Rhinox admits that the Predacons have some serious personality problems, and the Maximals have a big laugh. Except for Dinobot.

Notes
Animation and technical errors
* In one shot, when the Maximals are having a conversation near the Predacon base, Dinobot looks like as if he's standing in the lava flow. This may be because of the camera angle. If so, it means that Dinobot's been animated to stand in mid-air a few inches above the ground, thus the strange effect.
* When Terrorsaur is about to attack Rhinox, he's missing his Pteranodon feet, and so his legs end in stubs.
*When Megatron dives to the floor to launch Optimus, his beast mode head can be seen lying on the ground, before it is severed.

Continuity errors
* Near the end of the episode, Evil Rhinox shoots Megatron's kneecaps, making it very hard for him to stand up. Yet Megatron has little trouble standing or moving around in the big fight with the Maximals that happens soon afterward.

Transformers references
*When Waspinator is driven temporarily insane, he babbles that his name is Shrapnel, an Insecticon from the pre-Beast Era portion of the Generation 1 continuity family. Stuck like this for the rest of the episode, he proceeds to stutter and repeat words in a semi-accurate reference to the distinctive speech pattern that Shrapnel had in the G1 cartoon, which saw him repeat the last word of his sentences, sentences. Waspinator also delivers the classic TF slogan "More than meets the eye."
*Oddly, Waspinator's Shrapnel impression is much more reminiscent of Mixmaster's speech pattern in the episode "City of Steel", widely assumed to be his normal speech pattern by fans despite actually being confined to that episode. Mix-Mix-Mixmaster repeated the first syllable of a sentence several times, while Shrapnel repeats the last word of a sentence once, once.
*The concept of Rhinox being reprogrammed by Megatron only to attempt to overthrow him later is revisited in the sequel series, Beast Machines.
*Both Optimus and Rhinox say "Yeeessssss..." in a very similar manner to Megatron. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

Real-world references
*Cheetor's line: "Better dead than Pred." is a paraphrase of the old 1950's anti-Communism slogan "Better dead than Red".
*Immediately following saying that he is Shrapnel, Waspinator claims that he is "Wonko! Wonko the Sane!" and salutes the audience before punching himself in the head. In addition to being a fictional character created by the sci-fi comedy author Douglas Adams, it is a tribute to transfan Ben Yee, whose online username was Wonko the Sane at the time.
*The scene where Optimus Primal proudly brandishes his swords before an unimpressed Megatron lazily shoots him down is reminiscent of the famous duel between between Indiana Jones and the Cairo swordsman in Raiders of the Lost Ark. Dinobot pushing Scorponok into his rotor blade weapon echoes the demise of the German engineer later in the movie.
*While Waspinator is insane (well, more insane than usual), he briefly appears to be touching Blackarachnia's right chestplate.
Trivia
*Oddly enough, there are no purple and silver redecos of Rhinox.
* Rhinox gains evil, red eyes in beast mode upon being transformed into a Predacon. His robot form already has those, however, so to underscore his evilness in that form, his eyes are circled with silver rings that connect to the ridge over his forehead. The effect is similar to "dark circles" under a human's eyes.
