The Reapers battle the Decepticons, who get some help from Galvatron; Hunter completes his transformation; the Autobots leave Earth.

Synopsis
In the Machination's Tampa headquarters, an employee reports to the damaged Transformer that Hunter is trapped in the well-guarded bodyshop. The Transformers orders his men not to engage and speaks to agent Dante, now in Headmaster attire. Dante prepares to become the head for... Scorponok, revealed as severely damaged. Hunter struggles with the Headmaster process as scientists mess with the real head of Sunstreaker. Scorponok smashes through the wall just as Hunter figures out how to transform. A cloned body picks up the head and attaches it, but complains that the scientists' prodding is slowing him down. Scorponok attacks but Sunstreaker is able to transform, blast a hole in the wall and escape.

In the battle with the Reapers, the Decepticons fight valiantly, but are outnumbered. As Starscream states his loyalty, Megatron transforms to become his sidearm. The Battlechargers don't fair so well though; both are killed while being observed by Galvatron. Galvatron lends a hand by turning the Deathbringer into a death-dealing zombie, who kills other Reapers by touch. With the odds tipping in their favor, Megatron gives the order for the Seekers to attack the Reapers' ship while he and the Triple Changers attack the rest of the ground forces. When the battle is won, Megatron contemplates dismembering Blitzwing, but Starscream interrupts with the info that the Air Force is attacking.

Hardhead assists Hot Rod by blowing up a Headmaster clone and tells him about Optimus Prime's orders to evacuate. Hot Rod refuses to leave though, determined to find the root of the Headmaster mystery. Hardhead lets him go and (off-panel) takes Wheeljack and Ironhide back to the Ark-32. Aboard the ship, Optimus Prime speaks with Hound about rendezvousing at Garrus-9, and that he doesn't take leaving Earth or Sunstreaker lightly. Hound also sent info on Leadfoot's death to Nightbeat, who investigates the odd way in which he died. While investigating, he feels that he has seen the condition before and that someone has possibly interfered with his memory. He heads down to the hangar bay, and to the ship he once piloted to Gorlam Prime...

As the Ark-32 leaves orbit, Weston argues with Agent Red, stating that the "Bulwark Mechs" (Ravage and Laserbeak) are unaccounted for and that he doesn't have the time to activate a new one (Grimlock). Red says he must since they are at war and unlikely to get help.

Galvatron stares at the damaged form of Sixshot before returning to the Dead Universe. Though Nemesis Prime states he did good work, he confers with Jhiaxus, who suspects that Galvatron has hidden agendas and secrets.

:Cyclonus is a Decepticon from the Generation 1 continuity family.

Among the Decepticons, finding a loyal second-in-command is near impossible. Cyclonus is the exception to that rule. Created by Unicron, Cyclonus is a being whose loyalty to Galvatron and the Decepticon cause is so intense as to exclude most other emotions and interests from his mind. He is dedicated to destruction in his leader's name.

It's actually amazing that he's so loyal, when one considers that he alternates with Ultra Magnus as Galvatron's personal punching bag.
Animated continuity
:Voice actor: Roger C. Carmel → Jack Angel (US), Minoru Inaba → Tomomichi Nishimura (Japan)

:Carmel frequently proved unable to keep any consistency with Cyclonus' voice from episode to episode, rising and falling in pitch and tone repeatedly. Following his death, Jack Angel took up the role for the final five episodes of the series.

In the year 2005, after an abortive attack on Autobot City, the evil Decepticons found it necessary to jettison excess weight from their craft to make it back to their homeworld of Cybertron. The injured and dying Decepticons were chosen to be ejected into the void of space, including the commander, Megatron, but when their bodies were recovered by the world-eater, Unicron, they were reborn as deadly new warriors in the service of the recreated Megatron, now known as Galvatron.

Immediately following his creation, Cyclonus served as little more than Galvatron’s personal ship and attack dog, carrying his leader to Starscream’s coronation, into the battle in Autobot City and to the planet of Junk, attacking and crippling the shuttle of Hot Rod and Kup in the midst of it all. After the destruction of Unicron, however, when Galvatron was lost, Cyclonus came into his own, his loyalty to the Decepticons’ absent leader shaping his character in different ways. The Transformers: The Movie

Disgusted with how far the leaderless Decepticons had fallen as they eked out a miserable existence on the barren world of Chaar, Cyclonus resolved to locate Galvatron, daring even to enter Unicron’s deactivated, disembodied head and replaying its memory banks, tracing Galvatron to the world of Thrull. Unfortunately, once extricated from a pool of the planet’s plasma-lava, Galvatron proved to have been driven insane from exposure to it and brutalized Cyclonus and the Sweeps before being talked down and returned to his position as leader. Five Faces of Darkness

As 2006 settled in, Cyclonus was captured by a Quintesson scientist for study, along with Ultra Magnus, Wreck-Gar and Marissa Faireborn, but when the entire group was sucked through a black hole into a negative universe, they were forced to work together to escape; Cyclonus and Magnus developed a grudging respect for each other as warriors, but vowed that when they met again on the battlefield, it would be as enemies. The Killing Jar

Some time later, outnumbered and fleeing from the Aerialbots, Cyclonus and Scourge took refuge inside a vortex, which transported them to the pacifistic, energy-rich planet of Paradron, which had been settled by Cybertronian refugees. Naturally, the duo immediately overthrew the planet and summoned Galvatron and the other Decepticons there; the plan was ultimately foiled by the Autobots, but at the cost of Paradron itself, which was destroyed. Fight or Flee Cyclonus later had his body possessed by the ghost of the deceased Decepticon, Starscream, Starscream's Ghost and went on to clash with Ultra Magnus again aboard the Autobot records asteroid with the fate of Daniel Witwicky in the balance. Surprise Party

When a group of Decepticons, tired of being beaten and abused by the deranged Galvatron, confronted Cyclonus and demanded that he do something about the situation, Cyclonus was so short on options that he accepted the advice of a Quintesson, and tricked Galvatron into accompanying him to the therapeutic mental institution on planet Torkulon. It pained Cyclonus to see his leader so demented as each attempted therapy met with failure, but when the Torkuli attempted to cure Galvatron by removing the damaged part of his mind, thereby leaving him a vegetable, Cyclonus sprang into action, only to be restrained. Patched into the sentient network of the planet, rather than be cured, Galvatron infected the world itself with his madness and freed himself, decimating the planet and decided to turn his attention back to fighting the Autobots, rather than dwell on Cyclonus' deception. Webworld

Later, Cyclonus was among the Transformers turned into an energy vampire by the Trans-Organic Dweller, thrown to the beast by Galvatron to delay his own fate – though he hesitated for a moment before fleeing, almost repentant for his action. Dweller in the Depths Later still, he, along with a group of Autobots and Quintessons, were transported into a region of space cordoned off by the Quintessons, landing on the planet Zamojin, where Cyclonus aided the Quintessons in acquiring Perceptor’s Universal Emulator, in order to repair their systems and return to normal space. The Face of the Ninjika When the Hate Plague swept the universe, Cyclonus was infected and took leadership of the afflicted Decepticons, hunting down Galvatron and tracking him and a group of Autobots into the depths of Chaar and infected scientist Jessica Morgan. The Return of Optimus Prime, Part 2

In 2007, Cyclonus participated in the massive Decepticon attack on Autobot City which culminated in the theft of the key to the Plasma Energy Chamber. When the chamber was then opened, the energy released blasted the key and a group of Autobots across the galaxy to the planet Nebulos, and Cyclonus and Scourge led a team of Decepticons in pursuit, attacking and capturing several of the Autobots. The Rebirth, Part 1 To battle them, the remaining Autobots combined with a group of Nebulan rebels into “Headmasters” and bested them in combat. Having learned of his fusion of Transformer and Nebulan, the Hive, the evil ruling council of Nebulos, approached the Decepticons to repeat the process, but Cyclonus argued them down to taking the heads of only the animal-mode Decepticons, and merely the weapons of the others.

Consequently, Cyclonus became a Targetmaster as his handgun was converted into an exo-suit for the Hive member Nightstick, giving them enhanced targeting abilities and firepower. The Rebirth, Part 2 Reclaiming the chamber key with their superior powers, the Decepticons headed back to Cybertron aboard the giant robot Scorponok, where Cyclonus attempted to convince the disgusted Galvatron of the benefits of being bonded to the Nebulans. The Autobots soon arrived back on Cybertron and invaded Scorponok, only to be captured by the Decepticons, and almost executed by Cyclonus before being saved by Spike Witwicky and Fortress Maximus. The Decepticons’ plan was subsequently thwarted by Spike and the Nebulans, and they were sent spiraling off through space aboard Scorponok by a tendril of plasma energy. The Rebirth, Part 3

Who is Cyclonus?
When the injured Decepticons are transformed by Unicron, two identical Cyclonus robots are simultaneously created (as opposed to Scourge and the Sweeps, who were created one after the other in short order) – in the foreground, the Insecticon, Bombshell, becomes one, while in the background, Decepticon jet Skywarp becomes another. The dialogue which accompanies this scene claims that we are seeing "Cyclonus... and his armada." But, clearly, one warrior does not make an armada – the line is, in fact, a carry over from the original script, in which Cyclonus was intended to have multiple identical duplicates, in the same way that Scourge had the Sweeps.

However, the idea was apparently abandoned right after this scene – the second Cyclonus immediately disappears for the remainder of the film and is abruptly replaced with a third Sweep, where only two had existed before. (Despite this, some fans choose not to discount the existence of the second Cyclonus, and, somewhat irreverently, refer to him as a second character actually named "Armada"). The only other instances of duplicate Cyclonus robots are in Five Faces of Darkness, Part 5 and The Quintesson Journal, but these examples are generally discounted by fans due to the episodes' infamously poor, error-riddled animation (though it could be argued that if Bombshell were Cyclonus, he could have retained his Insecticon cloning ability to create these extra copies of himself).

The confusion over this armada and the not-100%-completely-explicit transformation scene have long prompted fans to debate the question - who truly became the one and only Cyclonus who appears in the series - Bombshell or Skywarp?

The only extant written statement on the matter comes, originally, from Cyclonus' Transformers Universe bio, which states that he is made from the "parts of dead Decepticons". This plural body-parts origin is echoed in his much later Heroes of Cybertron bio. However, as noted above, the visuals in the scene as-animated certainly imply that it was one old body per new body, without mixing and matching, and favoring "Bombshell" as the answer because of the blocking of the shot. The movie script is silent, or rather, completely apathetic on the matter: it states that after Megatron's transformation, the "other Decepticons" are turned into Scourge and Cyclonus and their minions, with no statements about particular bodies.

It is mainly through dissatisfaction with the asymmetry of the fates of Thundercracker and Skywarp that some fans reject the staging and favor Skywarp. The primary argument in Skywarp's favor is the following: Since Thundercracker the blue jet who was with Megatron since they were aboard the Nemesis became Galvatron's blue spaceship lieutenant, it simply should be that Skywarp the purple(-accented) jet who was with Megatron since the Nemesis would become Galvatron's purple spaceship lieutenant. Although Bombshell also has purple in his color scheme, he did not transform into a jet, nor was he ever part of Megatron's inner circle, so to speak. (The cross-sell catalogs included with 1986 toys even replaced Thundercracker and Skywarp with Cyclonus and Scourge in the Decepticon Jets section.). This is further supported by the fact that insecticons are seen later on in the movie (even with speech) and in several season 3 episodes such as The Five Faces of Darkness 1 (Shrapnel, Kickback), 3 (Shrapnel, Kickback)) and 5 (Shrapnel (and a clone), Kickback, Bombshell). In many cases they are are in the foreground and not as background (crowdfilling) characters.

A third camp feels that it does not matter who became Cyclonus, holding that both candidates were dead at the time, and, ultimately, arguments on the matter seem irrelevant, as Cyclonus never displays any inklings of a past life, whatever life that might have been.

Other aspects of the argument make claims regarding the personalities of the characters; for example, Bombshell held a high-ranking position within Insecticons (alternating leadership with Shrapnel), while Skywarp was an unintelligent soldier, making the former more suited to being Cyclonus; conversely Skywarp was very loyal to Megatron, while the Insecticons never saw eye-to-eye with him, making Skywarp the better candidate. And on and on...

For what it's worth in terms of retroactive canon-making, IDW's 20th anniversary adaptation, Transformers: The Animated Movie, presented the scene precisely as animated in the movie, with Bombshell in the foreground declared as Cyclonus through a caption box, and Skywarp in the background marked as his armada. On the other hand, the lenticular cover to the 20th Anniversary DVD edition places Skywarp and Cyclonus in the same location, and a set of character bios written by Australian fans for the 2003 Madman Entertainment DVD release of the movie -- later used on several UK Metrodome DVDs -- state with complete unambiguity that Skywarp become Cyclonus. On the other hand, no one really takes those DVDs seriously; not only because Transformers DVD releases routinely feature obviously erroneous information, but also because some view it as having been written by a fan pushing their interpretation of the matter, and not proof-read by anyone who would know (or care) enough to dispute it. Tangentially, Cyclonus and Skywarp are two separate, concurrently-existing characters in the arguably post-movie setting of the Wreckers comics, and 2007 Masterpiece Skywarp toy includes an 'Armada Decepticon' sticker, putting that toy in the "Bombshell was Cyclonus" pile. However, none of these things, many coming two decades after the fact, are exactly "evidence" for what happened in the film.

Headmasters cartoon
Cyclonus and Scourge continued to make token appearances when the new Headmaster warriors arrived to dominate the Cybertonian war, but their intelligences seemed to markedly decrease until they were little more than cackling, bumbling henchmen - for example, during the attack on the planet Beest, Cyclonus attempted to drop a rock on Rodimus Prime, but accidentally clobbered Galvatron instead, and ran away yelping in fear. Rebellion on Planet Beest Later, when Sixshot attempted to extort energy from six countries using each of his six modes, the duo completely botched his scheme when they failed to realize that he was behind it and attacked him with Trypticon. Terror! The Six Shadows
Marvel Comics continuity
In a future timeline similar but different to that depicted in the animated continuity, set in 2006, rather than 2005, (2006 being the original date for the movie, amended to 2005 after the comics were penned) Cyclonus was also a creation of Unicron, remade from the body of a dispatched Decepticon. Following Unicron's consumption of Cybertron's moons, Galvatron, Cyclonus and Scourge traveled back in time to 1986 as part of a plan to free themselves from Unicron's control by constructing a massive cannon that would destroy him upon their return to the future. The three Unicronian Decepticons proved themselves almost invincible in the face of the Autobots attacks, but were finally defeated when Galvatron was duped into believing he was trapped in a temporal paradox, and returned to his own time to live out the remaining events 2006. Target 2006

:(Note: Amusingly, during this story, Furman’s misinterpretation of the movie summary he had read (having not yet actually seen the feature), which referenced the fading "life spark" of a Decepticon, led to Cyclonus actually claiming he had been rebuilt from a Decepticon named "Life Spark.")

Following the destruction of Unicron at the hands of Rodimus Prime and the Matrix, Galvatron transported himself back in time to 1987, leaving Cyclonus and Scourge in the future, under Shockwave’s command. The duo were attacked by the freelance peace-keeping agent, Death's Head, who was seeking the bounty on Galvatron’s head, and Cyclonus revealed Galvatron’s whereabouts to him. Wanted - Galvatron Dead or Alive Later, Shockwave hired Death’s Head to kill Rodimus Prime, but Cyclonus and Scourge interfered with the job as they sought to kill Rodimus first, in order to reclaim their lost standing amongst the Decepticons. Headhunt This did not please Death’s Head, and consequently, he willingly accepted a contract from Rodimus to hunt down Cyclonus and Scourge, eventually tracking them down to the planet of Junk as 2008 dawned. Before he could finish the job, however, all three of them fell under the mind-controlling influence of Unicron, whose disembodied head had survived the destruction of his body and had landed on the planet, where he was having the native Junkions construct a new body for him.

Under Unicron's control, Cyclonus and Scourge killed Shockwave and became Decepticon leaders, reigniting the stalemated Cybertronian war to a furious degree to cover Unicron's actions. Death's Head, however, was able to fight the mind control and work with the Autobots' long enough to stop the chaos-bringer's plan. As explosions destroyed Unicron, Death's Head tackled Cyclonus and Scourge, pushing them through a time portal Unicron had built, promising to kill them another time. Cyclonus and Scourge were hurled into the past of Cybertron by the portal, where they came under the command of Scorponok. The Legacy of Unicron!

Traveling to Nebulos with the rest of Scorponok's forces, they became Targetmasters and later came to present day Earth. Brothers in Armor! Once there, they sought out Galvatron, and, no longer willing to serve him, instead demanded that he hand over his time travel device so that they could return to the future and their position as Decepticon leaders. The confrontation was disrupted by the sudden appearance of the Autobot commando squad, the Wreckers, who drew the ensuing battle away from the human settlement it was taking place in by professing to have stolen Galvatron's time jump mechanism, when in reality, the Decepticon no longer even had it for them to take. Wrecking Havoc

Having met with failure again, Cyclonus and Scourge decided to cut their losses and team up with Shockwave's present-day Earth-based Decepticon forces. (At this point in time, the comic book personalities of Scourge and Cyclonus had been well-established, and distinctly different from the cartoon - here, Scourge was the intelligent, scheming brains of the duo, while Cyclonus was the dull-witted brawn, and that personality trait remained as strong as ever.)

Unfortunately, Cyclonus accidentally let slip that they would kill Shockwave in the future. Naturally wanting to ensure his continued existence, Shockwave unleashed a brainwashed Megatron clone upon the two. Seized by the clone, Cyclonus’s Targetmaster partner, Nightstick, was crushed, and as Cyclonus begged Scourge for help, his companion fled to save his own life and Cyclonus’s head was torn from his body, killing him outright. Dry Run!

Cyclonus and Scourge’s displacement into the past had circumvented the normal mass-replacement method used by time-travel, and had hence unbalanced the space-time continuum, causing a rift to appear in the fabric of space and time. Cyclonus’s death, twenty years before he was even created, proved to be the final straw, accelerating the rift, which soon threatened to consume Earth and Cybertron. Realizing that the only way to stop it was to return himself, Galvatron and Cyclonus to their original time, Scourge attempted to recover Cyclonus’s body from Shockwave, only to be attacked by the deranged Decepticon, who had lost his mind due to the illogical nature of the situation, and had strung Cyclonus’s remains up like a twisted trophy. Ravage, however, was able to bring Shockwave back sanity enough for him to deposit Cyclonus’s remains after Galvatron and Scourge, and then seal it with an x-ray blast. Time Wars

An alternate version of Cyclonus later made a brief appearance, inhabiting an alternate future world of 2009 where Cybertron had been destroyed and Galvatron ruled Earth. In this future world, Cyclonus failed to stop an Autobot/human rebel invasion of the main Decepticon base, and was destroyed by an enraged Galvatron for his failure. Rhythms of Darkness!

Despite Megatron's attempts to implant his spark within a Vehicon body, Cyclonus retained his own mind and managed to escape. Wishing to restore the glorious Decepticon empire, Cyclonus had already been seduced by Cryotek's ambitions when he, alongside other renegade "bad guys," Skywarp and Rotorbolt, joined the Wreckers.
Soon, the legendary entity called the Oracle gathered these groups together and gave them each a task. The Wreckers were summoned to a far-off planet, and so the team fought their way through scores of Vehicons to secure a shuttle. Cyclonus and Skywarp's arrival helped seal the Wreckers' victory, and the group managed to leave Cybertron towards their destination. Departure

After some difficulties with Devcon, a stowaway, Cyclonus and the other Wreckers landed on Archa Nine, they learned of a mysterious energy-generating crystal named the "Divine Light." Cyclonus killed the Maximal Packrat and stole it, and after taunting his deceived "comrades", fled home to deliver the artifact to his true master, Cryotek. Betrayal

Cyclonus is a creation of Unicron built within pods inside the chaos-bringer’s body, constructed from the remnants of matter he ingested in his ongoing consumption of planets. Although Scourge played a larger role in events, Cyclonus’s appearance was brief – he was simply shown smashing his way out of his pod after Unicron consumed the planet Lithone in the wake of his reactivation.

:(Note: Future stories would have brought Cyclonus to the fore as he attacked the base of the Earth Defence Command in order to retrieve Scourge, who was being held there. Due to Dreamwave's plunge into insolvency, these stories were never published.)

Cyclonus was serving Shockwave when the latter was running the Cybertronian Decepticons in Megatron's absence. He was part of a unit standing by to seize several Autobots and Joes as they used Teletran 3 to prevent damage to the time-stream.

While not explicitly mentioned, it is unlikely that Cyclonus has a connection to or history with Unicron in this continuity.

: Cyclonus, like the other new characters created for Transformers: The Movie, was designed for animation first, and had his toy based on these designs. However, as with the other characters, the toy was based on an earlier design, most notably featuring folded back wings, while his animation model underwent further modifications before being finalised. The earlier design was the basis for the Marvel Comics version of the character, and also erroneously appeared in a few instances in the animated series.

Throughout the various Transformers canon, there have been several instances of Transformers with humanistic traits and having very human actions that possibly conflict with their status as mechanical robots. Many of these instances can be dismissed as stylistic choices by the artists or as gags not to be taken seriously.

Glandular, digestive, and respiratory
Sweating
* In issue nine of the original Generation 1 comic, Frenzy is seen leaking lubricant from his head during a stressful confrontation with Shockwave (as Shockwave points out), in a manner resembling sweating.

* Numerous times in the Marvel UK comic, Kup can be seen "sweating."

* Robots in Disguise and Armada featured Transformers displaying the traditional anime "sweatdrop," a giant bead of liquid appearing at the side of the head to convey embarrassment or exasperation.

Coughing
* In the G1 episode Roll For It, when the Autobots emerge from the ruins of a demolished antimatter laboratory, they are coughing.

* In Beast Wars, Megatron begins to cough for no reason while making a triumphant speech. Much like Powerglide's "heart", this could be a one-shot joke.

*In the episode Mortal Combat in Transformers Armada, right after Optimus Prime says "I wish I could accommodate you", he coughs silently.

Breathing
* When being constricted by a python, Cheetor says he can't breathe. Dark Voyage
* In an Energon episode, Jetfire instructs Ironhide that they have to synchronize their breathing before they can powerlink.
* At the climax of Transformers: The Movie, Galvatron tries to strangle Hot Rod, complete with sounds of Hot Rod gagging and struggling to breathe.

Spitting
* Throughout his term on the Marvel UK comic letters page, Soundwave would regularly say "(Puttup)" after mentioning the Autobots or an Autobot's name to represent him spitting in disgust. This habit made an in-story appearance, with him spitting at Robot-Master despite his mouthplate.
* In issue 72 of the Marvel US comics, after Nightbeat escapes from the Decepticons's New Jersey base via a sewer, he spits as he complains about their poor choice of backdoor.
* In the Beast Wars episode "Tangled Web", Quickstrike "spat" after reissuing his challenge to tangle with Silverbolt, despite the fact that, like Soundwave, he has no apparent mouth.

Crying
* A twinkle of light that may not literally be a tear, but is clearly intended to imply one, can be seen in Omega Supreme's eye at the end of "The Secret of Omega Supreme".

* When Optimus Prime dies in The Transformers: The Movie, Arcee is seen to dab at her eyes.

* In The Burden Hardest to Bear, Scourge had tears falling from his eyes, presumably in pain, during his monstrous disfigurement after he gains the power of the Matrix.

* As he mourns his dead friend Snowstalker and decides he can never fight again, Tigatron cries a single tear in beast mode.

* When pondering Silverbolt's fate in Beast Machines, Blackarachnia is shown to shed a single tear from one of her spider eyes.

* Throughout Beast Wars II and Robots in Disguise, and occasionally in the Armada cartoon, several characters are seen crying in hyperbolic anime fashion.

*Tears can be seen welling up in Ironhide's eyes and falling to the ground in Energon as he mourns a fallen comrade.

*In Transformers: Animated, Blackarachnia cries, though this "ability" could be part of her partially organic nature. Along Came a Spider

Eating
*There are references to Cybertronian food.
*In Beast Wars, the Maximals and Predacons are shown to eat:
**Tarantulas even displays something of a voracious appetite, eating rats and leaving webs to catch prey. At one point he captures Cheetor and prepares to drain his fluids, claiming that it is the act he prefers over the nourishment (which adds just another level of creepy to the already creepy Tarantulas) The Web
**Rattrap eats apples. The Web
**Terrorsaur eats a bird. Power Surge
**Dinobot ate a clone of his. Optimus Primal remarked that he was "disgusting". Double Dinobot
**While suffering from an Energon discharge virus, Rhinox eats wild beans to build up his power. This later ends disasterously for Megs. The Low Road
*In Beast Machines, Nightscream is shown eating what appears to be metallic apples. Boy's got some strong teeth. In Darkest Knight
*Also in Beast Machines, Optimus Primal wants to eat the underground tree's fruit; Cheetor protests that "we don't eat food, we process energon--PERIOD!", but is overruled. Forbidden Fruit

Flatulence
* In the Beast Wars episode "The Low Road", Rhinox lets out an extreme amount of flatulence after consuming wild bean vines. This could be due to Maximals having organic parts in their makeup.
* Also in Beast Wars, In the episode "Bad Spark", Cheetor also lets out flatulence, blaming it on a large buildup of energy from his Transmetal body.

Urination
* Tasmania Kid urinated (in beast mode) to put out a fire.
* Bumblebee performed a similar action on Agent Simmons, by popping off his gas cap in robot mode. Optimus Prime claims that he was just "lubricating" him. Presumably, this action was inspired from witnessing a similar incident.
** To be honest, it looked less like a gas cap and more like a oil filter, for the part that actually came off and hit Simmons in the head anyways. Which would have made more sense, given that oil is a lubricant, and gas is a fuel.

Intoxication
* In the G1 cartoon episode "Microbots", the Decepticons are noticeably behaving in an intoxicated fashion after consuming high-grade energon. Powerglide referred to this as "over-energizing".

* In Beast Wars II, Galvatron gets "drunk" on numerous occasions.

* In the UK comic, the Wreckers frequent a "bar" on Cybertron called Maccadam's Old Oil House, where they consume high-grade energon, presumably for the purposes of getting intoxicated. Dreadwind and Darkwing paid a visit to this establishment in a later story, and got so hammered that they didn't even notice Quickswitch fighting with some Mecannibals.

Miscellaneous
* In the episode Auto Berserk, Optimus Prime's eyes are closed (apparently to shield them against the smoke) much like a human's when Autobots stagger out of the fire and smoke of the Negavator's destruction.

* Deathzaras once got a cold causing him to cough and have a fever in an episode from Victory manga.

Body parts
Teeth/tongues/eyeballs
* The Generation 1 cartoon series is the only major piece of fiction to not present Transformers as possessing teeth and/or tongues. The features appear in both the Marvel and Dreamwave comics, the Beast Wars and Beast Machines animated series (where teeth would even be knocked out on occasion), the Robots in Disguise cartoon, and the Unicron Trilogy cartoons and comics.

* One of the most prevalent examples of this tradition is the Kiss Players manga, in which a Legion character is equipped with a distinctive prehensile (and phallic) tongue.

Facial hair
Facial hair

Questionable body parts
* Nearly all Transformers seem to possess noses for no discernable functional reason.

* In the G1 episode "The Girl Who Loved Powerglide", Powerglide is seen at the end of the episode having the LED outline of a cartoon heart within his chasis. This is somewhat nonsensical within in the context of the show (the contents of Transformers chest cavitites had been shown several times before), and is probably merely meant as a one-off sight gag.

* Alpha Trion, Galvatron, Scourge, Unicron, and Wreck-Gar all sport "facial hair" in the G1 cartoon.

* Predaking (possibly brought back from the dead) has an organic brain when he is sliced in half in Zone.

Other biological functions
Sleep
* In the G1 comic, Ratchet falls asleep and dreams (or rather, has a nightmare). This goes against established canon for that continuity that Transformers deactivate fully rather than "sleep," a point Ratchet himself makes.

* In the Generation 2 comic, Kup attempts to rouse a vision-struck Optimus Prime by urging him to "wake up" -- then reminds himself that "we don't sleep!"

* In Beast Wars, it has been firmly established that (perhaps partially due to their organic components), all Transformers within the cartoon sleep. Some prime examples of this are:
** Megatron has been shown to sleep in the command chair of the Darksyde, while his dino head mounted on the end of his arm stays awake, looks around, and smiles slyly. Wonder what it thinks about...
** Cheetor has been shown asleep at many points, complete with (occasionally prophetic) dreams. In Feral Scream Part 2, he also purrs when he's asleep. How cute!
** In "Call of the Wild", the Maximals are kept awake for two days by the Predacons' non-stop attacks on their base, which exacerbate their beast instincts overriding their logic circuits.

* Beast Wars II Galvatron often nods off in a narcoleptic-like fashion.

* Armada Cyclonus is quite fond of catching forty winks when possible. Scavenger did the same on one occasion. Armada Megatron was also seen asleep twice in the episode "Rebellion".

*Animated Ratchet enters a form of sleep he calls a "stasis nap", during which he gets several parking tickets. Transform and Roll Out!

Sexuality
One of the most controversial aspects of Transformers is the idea of sexuality. While it is established in most continuities that Transformers do not reproduce sexually, most continuities nonetheless have distinctive male and female characters (with the notable exception of the G1 comic, which explicitly states there is no sexual distinction).

The G1 cartoon brought the first official female Autobots into the canon, including Elita One and Arcee. The characters are noticeably more feminine in design and have clearly defined romantic relationships with male Autobots.

The issue becomes more complicated in Beast Wars, where the sexuality line is clearly defined (Blackarachnia has a particularly well defined female figure, including what appears to be an ample bosom). It is hinted on occasion that the robots may engage in activities resembling human sex acts. Rattrap slyly makes a double entendre to Silverbolt regarding his suspected kinky activities with Predacon Blackarachnia, and later makes a comment about going to what sounds like a Cybertonian version of a strip club. In the Metals dub, Rattrap, thinking himself about to be stabbed by Dinobot, asked him to "be gentle, because I've heard the first time can hurt."

In the original Japanese version of Energon, Mirage displays romantic interest in Galvatron, causing his comrades to regard him with minor confusion. The Energon dub seemed to do its best to skirt around this issue, with Mirage's exclamations either being about different things entirely or simple cheering on of his leader - but they couldn't do anything about the hands-clapsed-beside-his-head-while-doe-eyed expressions, or the one time that he pirouetted, struck a pose while surrounded by a giant glowing pink heart. Why, Japan?
Tracks and Blaster uncover a hypnosis plot. A funky hypnosis plot.
*Japanese title: "Blaster vs. Soundwave"

Detailed Synopsis
Raoul and his friends Poplock and Rocksteady are trying to make some spare cash, breakdancing on the sidewalks of New York City. Unfortunately, the management of the club Dancitron doesn't like competition, and sends a mob after them. Luckily, Tracks and Blaster are in the city, and comes to the trio's rescue.

Tracks realizes that something is wrong with the humans and investigates. Starscream and Soundwave are using the club to hypnotize humans so they can use them to construct a building.

Poplock and Rocksteady are hypnotized and lure Tracks into a trap at the club. Blaster and Raoul show up and free Tracks. During the fight Raoul discovers that water breaks the hypnosis. Tracks and the three humans chase Starscream in a dizzying aerial battle through the skyline of New York; Tracks eventually uses his smaller size to lure Starscream into damaging himself in the close quarters. Blaster squares off with Soundwave at the club in a sonic "battle of the boom boxes"; the two are nearly evenly matched, till Blaster uses the club's sound system to amplify his abilities and drive Soundwave off. Reuniting with Tracks, he uses the same trick to bring down the building the Decepticons were constructing.

Tracks offers grateful thanks to Raoul and his buddies for saving his life, saying that if there's anything he can do for them... and it turns out there is. The trio lost their radio in all the chaos, and until they earn enough street cash to get a new one, poor Blaster will make an ideal replacement.
Notable Quotes
"I've been waiting a long time for this, you poor excuse for a sound system." <br>
"All talk...no shock."<br>
:-- Blaster and Soundwave, right as their sonic duel begins.<br>

"Heeheeheehaahaahaahaahaahaahaaaaa...."<br>
:-- Soundwave, as he momentarily gets the upper hand in the sonic duel between himself and Blaster. This is one of the few times in the series that Soundwave is heard actually laughing, and coming from him in that quiet, metallic monotone of his, and in this context, it is actually kinda scary.

"Looks like your nightclub just went out of style." <br>
:-- Blaster to Soundwave, after he won the sonic duel.

"Now that is what I call a riveting experience."<br>
:--Tracks makes a terrible pun after being shot at by a guy with a rivet gun.

"Yo, the dude's gone crazy!" <br>
"Yeah... crazy like a fox!" <br>
:-- Raoul and Tracks.
Other Notes
Animation and/or Technical Glitches
* In this episode, Raoul's skin color is colored slightly ligher than his last appearance in Make Tracks.
* Towards the end, when Tracks gets chased by Starscream, at one moment inside a building Ramjet is shown instead of Starscream.

Continutity Errors
Transformers References
* References

Real-World References
* When confronted by the gang of thugs employed by Dancitron, Raoul suggests they "pull a Michael Jackson" (bugWHA?) and "beat it" (*sigh of relief*).

* While fleeing from the thugs, Raoul wishes their blaster (boom box) was "THE Blaster". Rocksteady retorts that Raoul "knows the Autobots like I know Prince".

*When first meeting Blaster and Tracks, Rocksteady responds to Blaster's implication of trouble-making with "Hey! We were just breakin' in front of the Dancitron (shifts from two open palms and a shrug to one thumb extended pointing behind him) and these Road Warrior rejects tried to bounce us out."

Miscellaneous Trivia
*When Tracks and Blaster enter Dancitron, the song playing is an instrumental version of a song performed by Cold Slither, a fake band created by Cobra in the G.I. Joe episode of the same name.

* This episode is one of two pre-movie episodes to not feature Optimus Prime.

* This episode is also noteworthy for pitting the two tape decks, Soundwave and Blaster, against each other, in an intense sonic duel. It turns out that Soundwave is actually somewhat the more powerful of the two, and Blaster had to augment his output with some nearby additional speakers to best his opponent... the cheater...
Japanese title: "Steal the Solar Energy!"

Detailed synopsis
Megatron orchestrates a conflict with the Autobots in order to capture Gears and remove a vital component from his system. Megatron's plan is to use Gears's circuit board in his Solar Needle, a solar collector which his Decepticons are constructing to harness energy from the heart of the sun. The removal of this component from Gears corrupts his personality, turning him from a surly grump into a happy-go-lucky, ultra-polite guy who'll do absolutely anything for anyone, allowing Megatron to manipulate and control him. Mentally, Gears still knows the Decepticons are evil and doesn't want to help them, but he's been rendered so "nice" that he can't refuse any request. Unbeknownst to Megatron, the Solar Needle is flawed, causing a dangerous instability within the core of the sun. The Autobots arrive in order to rescue Gears and prevent Megatron from using the device. Though nearly defeated, they are finally able to drive off the Decepticons with the help of Gears, whose component has been restored, and destroy the device.

*The Autobots somehow drove from their base in the Western United States to the "geographic center of Africa" in "slightly less than 2 Earth hours". After traveling to a separate hemisphere, it is the same time of day as when the Autobots left their base.
*Throughout the latter half of the episode, Optimus Prime and Megatron argue that the Solar Needle may/may not destroy the universe. Each issue focuses on a particular Generation 1 Transformer. The series was originally only to consist of 5 issues, but has since evolved into an annual set of 5 produced per year (at least through 2008).
Overview
The Spotlight series is set within the main IDW storyline. The format allows more free-ranging story settingsm-many issues are set on alien worldsm-and serve to give a wider view of the overall IDW Transformers universe. The issues set up future story ideas and plot points for the main IDW miniseries; many have eventually tied-in directly with the main storyline, with others obviously set to do so in the future.

Most of the issues have prominent co-stars, such as the Dynobots in Shockwave's spotlight, and Omega Supreme in Optimus Prime's story.

There is no absolute chronological order for all of the issues. Some, such as Galvatron and Optimus Prime, are set after specific events in the main story; others like Hot Rod and Nightbeat are not so clearly delineated, having happened an unspecified time ago. Still others (Shockwave, Soundwave) are flashbacks to a specific point in the recent or distant past.

With the announcement of Spotlight: Wheelie, nearly all of the characters introduced in The Transformers: The Movie have received a Spotlight. The only exceptions are Springer (who was featured in Kup's Spotlight, as well as Stormbringer), Blurr, Cyclonus and Scourge (none of whom have appeared in the IDW-verse yet).

Creative teams
* Most of the Spotlights has thus far been written by Simon Furman, as will the scheduled Grimlock issue. Exceptions are Spotlight: Kup, written by Nick Roche, Spotlight: Ramjet, written by Stewart Moore, Spotlight: Mirage, written by George Strayton and Spotlight: Wheelie. The list of artists throughout the series is diverse (please see each issue for credits).
