==Synopsis==
[[Jetfire (G1)|Jetfire]] speeds through the Nevada desert, anxious to deliver news of an odd discovery on a Pacific island (the Clarke Atoll, to be exact). Arriving at the Autobot's camp, he addresses [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]]. However, [[Mirage (G1)|Mirage]] cuts him off, already having discovered the source of Jetfire's concern via his computer hacking skills: the Decepticons have constructed a pair of giant rocket engines. Prime, convinced that this is bad news, gives the order to roll out. Meanwhile, [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]] congratulates [[Scrapper (G1)|Scrapper]] on the construction of the engines in question, expositing that when brought online, they will turn Earth into his own cosmic dreadnaught. The humans will die from the cold of space, and the planet can be terraformed into a new Cybertron, since they are unable to return to [[Cybertron (planet)|the original]]. When Megatron asks how long it will be before the engines are ready to fire, Scrapper says that they can do so immediately (although he admits to himself that he would prefer more testing).

Prime and the others fly toward the atoll at an incredible speed. Upon arriving, they are noticed by the Decepticons, who immediately open fire. Megatron notes, within earshot of the Autobots, that the engines are warming up and will fire in twenty minutes. While the rest of the Autobots keep the enemy busy, Jetfire and [[Deftwing]] fly straight into the rockets, noting that they were built so hastily that no defense systems were installed. Upon reaching the engines, they discover that the device uses magma as fuel. The magma is being moved to the engine through electromagnetic channels so as not to make contact with (and melt) the surrounding systems. They promptly blow a hole in the engine, spilling magma everywhere. The entire apparatus now being completely unstable, Jetfire and Deftwing hightail it out of the rockets before the machine explodes spectacularly, the magma destroying all the remaining debris. The Decepticons flee and Prime congratulates the duo on a job well done.

* While it is said that some of the Autobots are unable to fly, having to bum a ride off of Jetfire and Deftwing, Optimus Prime (you know, the TRUCK) can apparently stay aloft on his own.

* This is Deftwing's ''only'' appearance in ''any'' Transformers fiction. Poor guy.
* It's difficult to reconcile this story with any previous continuity except that established by "From Cybertron to Earth the War Continues...", the annual's introduction.
* This story is illustrated mostly with recycled [[package art]], as well as an animation cel of Optimus Prime (also seen on the cover) backlit by a kaleidoscope effect. Trippy!
