'''Japanese title:''' "The Micro Suicide Squad"

==Detailed synopsis==
[[Image:NemesisMicrobots1.jpg|left|150px|thumb|"We've passed here for the past 20 years! How could we never have spotted this before?!" "Every time we passed here, you pointed to that rock with the funny shape on the other side of the road, Mike."]]
While digging for Mayan artifacts in South America, a group of archaeologists stumble upon an ancient spacecraft. As news of the discovery is broadcast on the news, [[Soundwave (G1)|Soundwave]] and [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]] recognize it as the [[Nemesis (G1)|''Nemesis'']], the Decepticon ship they traveled to Earth in four million years ago. Megatron states that there is something on that ship which he wants, and sets out to get it.

Meanwhile, at the [[Autobot]]s' [[Ark (G1)|HQ]], [[Perceptor (G1)|Perceptor]] is using a shrinking-enlarging device to repair one of [[Ironhide (G1)|Ironhide's]] memory chips while being insulted by [[Brawn]] for not being a soldier. [[Bumblebee (G1)|Bumblebee]] walks in and tries to make him stop, when [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]] orders Brawn and Bumblebee to follow him to South America along with [[Ratchet (G1)|Ratchet]], to stop Megatron from obtaining what he wants.

[[Image:Microbots Megatron energy blasts.JPG|thumb|150px|Now you will experience the full power of the dark side.]]
As Megatron's troops blast their way through a rainforest in order to avoid satellite detection, [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream]] manages to miss a tree and gets attacked by a giant snake, to the amusement of [[Rumble (G1)|Rumble]] and the [[Constructicon (G1)|Constructicon]]s. Meanwhile, [[Ravage]] has met his match in the form of a real Jaguar. The Autobots arrive and decide not to burn the forest down, because Optimus says "that's not our style."

Megatron gets through the forest first, and reaches the ship. Blasting it open, he retrieves the ship's energy core, the [[Heart of Cybertron]]. [[Hook]] implants it into Megatron's torso, vastly increasing his power level. Optimus Prime then arrives and orders the Autobots to attack, but they are all defeated by Megatron's new ability to continuously fire energy from his fingertips. The Autobots only manage to escape by destroying a hill, burying the Decepticons under rubble.

[[Image:Microbots shrink.JPG|thumb|left|150px| In the 80's, every cartoon had to have a shrinking episode.]]
While Optimus Prime creates a force-field to keep Megatron at bay, Perceptor hatches a plan to shrink himself, Brawn and Bumblebee to microscopic sizes in order to infiltrate Megatron's body and disconnect the Heart of Cybertron.

Meanwhile, the Decepticons sit around and get <s>plastered</s> overcharged on [[energon]]. After Megatron rambles on about the "good ol' days" and passes out, [[Powerglide]] delivers the tiny Autobots into his body. This causes him to wake up and go to destroy the Autobots himself, as the rest of his forces can't stay on their feet.

[[Image:Microbots Heart throw.JPG|thumb|150px|"Why don't we install it in Optimus, Perceptor?" "Because you're an idiot, Brawn."]]
Perceptor, Brawn and Bumblebee make their way through Megatron's body, avoiding his [[electro-sanitizer]]s and riding his [[evil brain impulse]]s. They eventually reach the Heart of Cybertron, disconnect it, and get out of Megatron just as the shrink-ray was wearing off. Brawn throws the Heart 2000 miles into the sky, at which point Perceptor blasts it. After this, Brawn shows much more respect for Perceptor.
"Nice scenery."<br>
"Yeah, now let's waste it! I hate nice things."<br>
:-- '''Rumble''' and '''Scavenger''', the latter sounding [[Bonecrusher (Movie)|very familiar]].

''[Starscream shoots at a tree and misses]'' <br>
'''Rumble''': "Good shot, Starscream!" <br>
'''Starscream''': "Shut up or I'll blast you!" <br>
'''Rumble''': "Hey, hold that pose! I wanna remember you that way!" <br>
''[A snake wraps itself around Starscream's neck]'' <br>
'''Starscream''': "Help! Get this thing off me!" <br>
'''Rumble''': I think it looks styling on ya! <br>
:-- '''Rumble''' and the '''Constructicons''' laugh at '''Starscream'''.

'''Brawn''': "Are you ''defective?'' ''How''<nowiki>'</nowiki>re we gonna do ''that?!''<br>
'''Perceptor''': "Simple! We use my trans-mat reduction beam to shrink down to microscopic size. Then, we crawl into Megatron, and rip the blasted heart out!"<br>
'''Optimus''': "What do you think of his intelligence now, Brawn?"<br>
'''Brawn''': "Ahhh, I reserve judgment."
:-- '''Brawn''', '''Perceptor''', and '''Optimus Prime'''

'''Megatron''': "Decepticons: a toast. To the imminent destruction of the acursed Autobots!"<br>
''[The Decepticons begin drinking Energon]''<br>
'''Starscream''': "Energy! We won't need to conserve after tomorrow. We can bleed this planet dry!"<br>
'''Rumble''': ''[hiccups]'' "Boy, these are good. ''[hiccups]'' I needed to refuel. Energy!"<br>
'''Megatron''': "Energy! Energy!"<br>
'''Thundercracker''': "Hey! This stuff's the greatest!" ''[passes out]''<br>
'''Megatron''': "Ah, those were the good ol' days, back on Cybertron...Didn' half to...sneak around in these...ugly Earth disguises."<br>
''[Powerglide arrives]''<br>'''Powerglide''': "Time to cut the jets and glide!...What in the world?"<br>
'''Megatron''': "Good ol' Cybertron! Land...of the metal moon!"
:-- '''The Decepticons''' and '''Powerglide''' in what is possibly the funniest scene of the original cartoon.

"Let's bash brain!"
:-- '''Brawn'''.

==Other Notes==
===Animation and/or technical glitches===

* When Optimus is telling the Autobots to leave the base, Perceptor has a red Decepticon symbol. No wonder Brawn doesn't trust him.
* When the Constructicons laugh at Starscream, they use Rumble's laughter while Rumble is talking. This laughter is reused a second later by Rumble himself when he is done talking.
*Most of the Autobots do not follow Optimus to South America, but appear anyway halfway through the battle with Megatron.
*Ratchet says "do" twice in a row when talking to Bumblebee at the end.
* When the Decepticons get drunk, Soundwave is seen drinking amongst the crowd, despite having a faceplate.

===Continuity errors===
* Errors

===Transformers references===
* The Decepticon ship in this episode was later dubbed the ''Nemesis'' by the [[Nemesis Part 1|episode of the same name]] in [[Beast Wars (cartoon)|''Beast Wars'']]. The ship itself is not named in "Microbots".

===Real-world references===
* The Japanese title is apparently a reference to DC Comics' Suicide Squad.

===Miscellaneous trivia===
[[Image:Microbots Decepticons drunk.JPG|thumb|200px|Soundwave superior. Lightweights inferior.]]
* This episode is perhaps the only one to show drunken Decepticons. Which is a real bummer, because they make funny, happy drunks.
* The pulsating sound heard when Perceptor and company approach the Heart of Cybertron within Megatron is the same one used aboard the Dalek spaceships on all episodes of ''Doctor Who'' since 1964.
*Megatron apparently has a wristwatch on his left wrist, which he looks at while flying around (causing concern for the Autobots within his shoulder joints).
* At one point, Brawn proposes killing Megatron from the inside. Perceptor stops him, saying that if he fell while flying, the impact could detonate the Heart of Cybertron. Once Megatron's landed, this wouldn't seem to be a concern anymore, but the Autobots still choose to remove the Heart of Cybertron rather than bashing brains. Perhaps even a short fall would have been enough?
* Megatron already has a open spot between his chest circuitry for the Heart of Cybertron, much like Ultra Magnus and Hot Rod have reserved spots (holes) for the Matrix.
:''Overcharges are [[Quintesson]] creations from the [[Generation 1]] [[continuity family]].''

[[Image:Overcharge-card.jpg|thumb|right|300px|Second-most unfortunately-named exclusive ever... and there's a chance it was ''intentional''.]]

The '''Overcharges''' are the latest model of Quintesson mass-produced warrior-drone, using technologies gleaned from the [[Decepticon]]s. Produced in countless numbers and sold to whatever buyers can cough up the credits, Overcharges are strong, fast, powerful, and in the wrong hands, can overrun worlds.

==Toys==
===Generation 1===
*'''Overcharge''' (Triple Changer Terrorbot, 2005)
**''Japanese ID number'': '''72'''
**''Accessories'': "Heat rifle", "null gladius" sword, 3 missiles

: An [[e-Hobby]] exclusive [[redeco]] of the [[Blitzwing (G1)#Toys|Blitzwing toy]], Overcharge transforms from robot mode to a Type 74 tank or a MiG-25 fighter jet. It came with an extra decal sheet with multiple faction logos (including several totally new ones) so it could be assigned to different armies: [[Autobot]], [[Decepticon]], [[Quintesson]]/Terrorbot, "Ancient", [[EDC]], and "[[Unicron]] Herald" (using the [[Blendtron]] sigil).

==Trivia==
* While the toy's color scheme is based on the mold's original pre-''Transformers'' ''[[Diaclone]]'' colors, the "character" appears to be based on the mass of off-color Blitzwing-model tanks seen in the opening to the third season of the Generation 1 cartoon.

* Overcharges, it is noted, are based on technology from the Decepticons, since the Quintessons' original robots did not transform, only developing the skill after freeing themselves from slavery. The use of the Blitzwing mold for this Quintesson creation seems to harken back to the animated series episode ''[[Five Faces of Darkness]]'', in which Blitzwing is the only Transformer to recognize the Quintessons, albeit in a vague, uncertain way. This seems to suggest a connection between Blitzwing and the Overcharges, but what that connection could ''be'' is pure speculation.

*Considering that the toy is an e-Hobby exclusive, "Overcharge" is considered in the fandom to be a very apt name.
==Detailed synopsis==
[[Image:Ramjetinpast.gif|150px|left|thumb|Ramjet was born to joust.]]
The episode starts with Warpath and Hoist battling it out with Starscream, Rumble, Ravage, and Ramjet. But the Decepticons retreat out of exhaustion, sensing energy in a nearby cave. The cave transports them to 543 A.D., where they are greeted by Sir Wigend du Blackthorne and his knights, who believe the Transformers are knights of their enemy realm. Nearby, Nimue, princess of that enemy kingdom, is spying their conversation and runs to warn her father, Sir Aetheling the Red, but she bumps into Spike (literally). The Decepticons agree to help Blackthorne's knights win their conflict with Aetheling, but Starscream obviously just wants to rule and have a land of his own. Spike agrees to enter the tournament between the two kingdoms (which has been rigged by the Decepticons, of course), but quickly fails.

Ramjet and Rumble then enter the tournament together (Rumble riding Ramjet in vehicle form), but are defeated by Warpath and Sir Aetheling. An enraged Starscream kidnaps Nimue and holds her hostage unless Sir Aetheling agrees to give up his realm. The Autobots give chase but cannot keep up due to lack of energy and collapse out of exhaustion. Starscream then holds Nimue prisoner in Blackthorne's castle, which he has commandeered, and has its residents construct and power a primitive electrical generator to keep him energized. Starscream then sends Rumble to get potassium nitrate (in other word, LOTS of bird crap) to make gunpowder. Spike attempts to save Nimue from Blackthorne's keep, only to find she and Sir Blackthorne are now a happy couple. Feeling rejected, Spike still agrees to help fight the war against the Decepticons. Meanwhile, the Autobots and Sir Aetheling's knights charge towards the castle to battle it out with the Decepticons, but the Autobots can't put up much of a fight due to their dangerously low energy levels.

A wizard named Beorht then appears to aid the Autobots and summons lightning that fills Warpath and Hoist with enough energy to fight. They continue the battle with Starscream and are victorious. Beorht then leads them all back to the cave in which they arrived, only to find it guarded by a [[dragon]]. Starscream refuses to go any closer, but Beorht pulls out a pouch of "dragon's bane", noting that a little bit of it works every time. He throws the concoction at the dragon, and it explodes, frightening away the beast. Spike and the Transformers are now all able to return to the present. When they arrive back in their home era, they are greeted by multiple cannon blasts by Megatron. Starscream tackles his leader in a burst of enthusiasm at being back safely. Megatron, on the other hand, isn't nearly as happy to see Starscream, who has just ruined his shot...
==Other notes==

===Animation and/or technical glitches===
*Princess Nimue has cleavage that appears and disappears from shot to shot and sometimes frame to frame. And no, you are not a pervert if you watched the episode six times to chronicle this error.

===Continuity errors===
*When Ramjet rams into Warpath in the jousting duel, his canopy is smashed and nose cone crushed in, yet less than a minute later, he's back to normal when the remaining Decepticons attempt to flee with Starscream.

*The historical accuracy of some aspects of this episode is somewhat lacking. (No! Really?) Whilst the recipe for gunpowder expressed in this episode is roughly correct, gunpowder would not make its way to medieval Europe for another eight hundred years or so, and then only from the Far East.

*Even making allowances for the story being set in the enlightened and (presumably) advanced kingdom of Camelot, plate armour of the kind worn by the various knights in this episode was not introduced into medieval Europe until around the year 1400—almost a thousand years from the stated date of 543 ''anno domini''. Even so, one should be fair to the writers and cartoonists, given that major motion pictures like ''Excalibur'' also made this sort of error (or used it for dramatic effect because audiences would easily recognise a stereotypical "knight" as opposed to a historically accurate version). Additionally, in one respect, the defect can be excused: Hoist's creation of a suit of armour for Spike with 900 years' worth of technological innovations can be regarded as a pretty smart tactical move.

*Also, everyone seems to be speaking [[wikipedia:Modern English|Modern English]] instead of [[Wikipedia:Old English|Old English]].

===Real-world references===
* Surprisingly, there is a a slight bit of Arthurian legend present in the episode. Nimue is an Arthurian character, who fell in love with Merlin. Unsurprisingly, that Nimue is nothing like this episode's Nimue.

===Miscellaneous trivia===
[[Image:Spike gets kissed.jpg|right|200px|thumb|It's not his best moment, but the really scary thing is that it's not his worst.]]
* The original broadcast version of this episode featured the mis-spelled title, "A Decept'''a'''con Raider..." The error was corrected for the ''[[Generation 2]]'' version of the episode. Likewise, when [[Kid Rhino]] recreated the title cards for their DVD release of the series, it was also amended.
* Starscream's math is out by about a decade - 543 + 1451 = 1994, rather than the correct 1984.
* Spike actually gets a kiss from a girl. What will [[Carly]] think?
'''Frank W. Welker''' (February 16, 1945-) is an American voice <strike>actor</strike> god. Though it is but the tip of the iceberg, some of Welker's most notable roles include Fred from ''Scooby Doo'', Ray and Slimer from ''[[Dr. Susan Hoffman#Dr. Hoffman's Assistants|The Real Ghostbusters]]'', Santa's Little Helper in "The Simpsons", Nibbler from ''Futurama'', Dr. Claw from ''Inspector Gadget'' and that parrot that got eaten by the shark in ''Deep Blue Sea''. He has also done nearly all the animal sounds recorded for cartoons in North America in the last few decades. Though he has given voice to numerous Transformers, he is particularly remembered for his portrayal of [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]].

Basically, if you haven't seen a cartoon with him in it then that's because you've never seen a cartoon in your entire life. Unless it was one of those public domain 1930s cartoons which sell for a buck at Family Dollar, of course.
==Trivia==

*[http://www.bwtf.com/bw/tvshow/episodes/seasontwo/agenda2/ According to Ben Yee], [[Bob Forward]] desperately wanted Frank Welker to reprise the role of Generation 1 Megatron for the [[Beast Wars]] episode "[[The Agenda (Part 2)]]" and even offered to go to Welker's home in California and tape-record his lines there. However, Welker declined the role supposedly because Forward was unable to offer him a sufficient amount of money and his schedule was too busy.

*For an episode of [[Cartoon Network|Adult Swim]]'s ''Robot Chicken'' series, "Werewolf vs. Unicorn", Frank Welker reprised the roles of both Soundwave and Megatron.<ref>http://www.adultswim.com/video/?episodeID=8a25c3921449e2e901144bddc6af00c2</ref>

*Throughout the 90's, Frank Welker was the official voice of [[Steven Spielberg]] in all his animated appearances in shows like ''Tiny Toon Adventures'', ''Animaniacs'' and ''Freakazoid''.
{{-}}

*On a Futurama commentary, Billy West referred to Welker as "a voice-acting god", an appelation that has stuck in various fan communities.
With [[Scorponok (G1)|Scorponok]] established as leader of the [[Decepticon]]s once more and [[Spike Witwicky|Spike]] on the verge of death, the fate of [[Earth]] hangs in the balance, and only [[Chromedome]] can save the day by discovering the long-held secret of Scorponok's weak spot!

==Detailed synopsis==

Following [[Galvatron (G1)|Galvatron]]'s demise, Scorponok once again seizes control of the Decepticon forces, and appoints himself the [[Emperor of Destruction|Emperor of Terror]]. Keeping [[Sixshot]] occupied by instructing him to continue the attack against Earth's [[Autobot]]s, Scorponok and the Decepticon [[Headmaster]]s resume their original plan for the destruction of Earth.

On [[Athenia]], the Autobots study the Decepticons' recent movements, noting that the northern hemisphere has seen a lot of activity of late. Chromedome prepares to head to Earth to help reinforce the defenses of that area when Spike announces that he will be going to the planet too, to attend a summit concerning Earth's volcanoes. Specifically, the meeting is about drilling into Earth's mantle, but Spike's studies reveal an unexpected coincidence - all of Scorponok's movements have been centered on the [[Wikipedia:Pacific Ring of Fire|Pacific Ring of Fire]], the largest concentration of volcanoes on Earth, which runs from Alaska to the South Pole. Back in [[Autobot City]], Spike explains that he thinks the Decepticons are targeting the spot where Earth's crust is weakest, but in the midst of his talk, [[Trypticon]] attacks. [[Metroplex (G1)|Metroplex]] holds him off, but Sixshot then arrives, and Chromedome - recalling the death of [[Ultra Magnus (G1)|Ultra Magnus]] at the ninja's hands - engages him in battle. Metroplex is distracted by this, and as Trypticon bears down on him, Spike steps out from his cover to shout a warning to the city-bot, and is struck by a stray laser blast. Metroplex repels the Decepticons, but Spike is critically wounded and transported by to Athenia for urgent medical attention.

Chromedome blames himself for allowing Spike to get injured, and although [[Daniel Witwicky|Daniel]] is understanding, Wheelie is not so forgiving. Just then, Fortress enters to inform everyone on Spike's condition - a small piece of shrapnel has become embedded in one of his arteries that cannot be removed by surgery. His guilt mounting, Chromedome turns on Fortress, blaming Spike's injuries on his passive strategies. Restrained and calmed down by his fellow Headmasters, the group then debate Scorponok's strategy, with [[Highbrow]] speculating that his is attempting to make the Earth's combust into a new sun. At that point, a report is beamed in from [[Scattershot]] that the Decepticons are active on the Kamchatka Peninsula, another portion of the Pacific Ring of Fire. Fortress forbids Chromedome from participating in the attack, and he remains on Athenia while the others head for Earth.

Spike and Daniel share a tearful moment in the medical bay, with Spike telling Daniel that regardless of what happens to him, he must remain strong. Thankfully, Fortress has the answer that will save Spike's life - putting his Master-born psychic powers to work, he telekinetically purges the shrapnel from Spike's body. Unfortunately, this drains all of his energy, and with Scorponok on the way to Earth, he will be unable to transform into Fortress Maximus to combat him.

On Kamchatka, the Autobots are meeting heavy Decepticon resistance, and Scorponok appears in the sky over the peninsula, patiently awaiting the arrival of Fortress. Soon enough, he gets his wish, and transforms into robot mode to throw the energy-deprived Battleship Maximus around. Stuck on Athenia and feeling useless, Chromedome realises the key to winning the day - discovering the secret of Scorponok's long-searched-for weakness! Daniel and Wheelie aid him in his work, focusing their studies on the connection between his head and body, per notes left by Highbrow. As the battle on Earth worsens, they at last discover the Decepticon leader's weak spot - the Decepticon insignia on his chest! Chromedome races to Earth, arriving just as things seem their bleakest, as Scorponok hurls Battleship Maximus into the molten heart of a volcano. What Scorponok has failed to account for, however, is Fortress's ability to absorb the volcano's magma energy, re-energising him and allowing him to transform into Fortress Maximus! Chromedome informs him of the weak spot and Fortress Maximus stabs Scorponok through the chest with the [[Master Sword]], causing the Decepticon to topple into the volcano. In a spray of molten rock, the crippled Scorponok bursts free and flees into the sky.

As the dust clears, Wheelie and the other Headmasters reconcile with Chromedome.
==Other notes==

===Continuity errors===

*When Chromedome heads for Earth to spread the word on Scorponok's weak spot, Arcee informs him that he can't use the [[space bridge]]—obvious enough, since it was destroyed in "[[Daniel Faces His Biggest Crisis Ever!!]]". Chromedome, however, claims he will "find a way," and is next seen in mid-transit to Earth, flying through what appears to be, for all intents and purposes...a space bridge tunnel. What the ''hell''?

===Transformers references===

*Galvatron met his end in "[[The Emperor of Destruction Vanishes on an Iceberg]]." That episode also featured Scorponok's activities in Alaska, foreshadowing the involvement of the Pacific Ring of Fire in this episode.
*Ultra Magnus died in "[[Ultra Magnus Dies!!]]" Hard to believe, we know.
*Although earlier episodes have laid the seeds for it, it is this episode which really makes the viewer aware that Chromedome bears a vicious emnity towards Sixshot. Although this episode only specifically mentions the death of Ultra Magnus, recall that Sixshot was also responsible for killing Chromedome's best friend, [[Abel]], as seen in "[[Terror! The Six Shadows]]". Unfortunately for Chromedome, this is not the last time that one of his friends will lose his life thanks to Sixshot, and it sets the stage for a major confrontation between the two characters towards the end of the series.
*The Headmasters' psychic powers were properly established in "[[Cybertron Is in Grave Danger, Part 2]]". This is the first and only time that powers beyond telepathy are demonstrated.
*The long-standing mystery of Scorponok's weak spot first arose, naturally, in "[[Find MegaZarak's Weak Spot!!]]" Tied into this, in both "[[Fight to the Death on Planet Hive!!]]" and "[[Mystery of the Space Pirate Ship]]", Scorponok took slashes to the chest and immediately retreated from battle. Now we know why: because his weak spot had been hit!

===Miscellaneous trivia===

*All the major plot threads established since Galvatron's return in "[[Return of the Immortal Emperor]]" have been wound up over the last few episodes, culminating in this episode, representing the end of the second "story arc" in ''The Headmasters'' and setting the stage for the third and final arc, beginning next episode.
*The [[RTM 1 dub|Malay dub version]] of this episode is downright ''hilarious''. Scorponok's response to having his weak spot exploited? "Darn! How did you find out?" This is also the source of the infamous line "Fortress Maximus has come himself".
