Sari's new musical toy robot seems to have an evil streak and the ability to control other machines, but Bulkhead is the only one who sees it.
Synopsis
Bulkhead takes Sari toy shopping for her birthday (or "construction date" as he terms it), to purchase her something that makes the loud music she loves so much. The two of them are attacked by Professor Princess, who is on an ironically violent crusade to destroy violent toys. They are able to defeat the bizarre villainess only after Sari uses the power of her Key to trigger a powerful sonic attack from the stereo systems in the toy store. Megatron, monitoring events via security cameras as usual, notices both the power of the Key and the frivolous ways in which Sari employs it. He designs a new robot for Sari and tricks Dr. Sumdac into allowing him to produce it.

Sari's birthday party isn't much fun; she has no real friends, the only attendees being the children of Sumdac Systems employees, who continue to be put off by her bad manners. When the Autobots arrive to help celebrate, the kids are quite happy to go play with the giant robots and leave the weird girl behind. Bulkhead tries to present Sari with his gift for her, a xylophone (Awwww!), but Dr. Sumdac steps in first and gives her the "toy" designed by himself and Megatron: a responsive, interactive, dancing, music-and-light-show robot known as Soundwave. It's hard for Bulkhead to compete with that, and so, embarrassed, he slinks away dejectedly. As days go on, Sari pays less attention to Bulkhead and far more to Soundwave. When she inevitably starts to grow bored with her new toy, she uses her Key on it. Each dosage of the Key's power unlocks new features on Soundwave, making his musical light show more involved and impressive, and even more fun than plain ol' Bulkhead and the Autobots.

This has been Megatron's plan all along. Soundwave's systems were designed to grow and evolve when exposed to the Key; eventually, Sari will unwittingly upgrade him into a suitable body for Megatron himself. Bulkhead begins to see signs of Soundwave's evolving nature—"Did that thing just move by itself?"—but no one believes him. Megatron successfully uses Soundwave's weaponry and voice-modulation systems to make both Sari and the Autobots think Bulkhead is erratic, jealous, and dishonest.

Soundwave's musical transmissions soon become powerful enough to control other Sumdac Systems automatons...which are pretty much everywhere. Megatron had not foreseen this. Sari takes Soundwave and Tutor Bot to the park, where they have an impromptu concert, complete with garbagebots banging on their fellow garbagebots, and dancing humans. (Even Tutor Bot does a little dance.) Bulkhead arrives, trying to convince Sari that something is wrong with Soundwave. However, as she turns her back to Soundwave, the music-bot activates a cannon and targets Sari. Bulkhead destroys Soundwave, forcing Sari to use the key to restore him, and he immediately starts up again. Optimus tells Bulkhead to give Sari a little time and space, saying that she still values her friend more than her toy, but Bulkhead isn't so sure. Megatron is convinced that Bulkhead is no longer a problem and decides it's time to take Soundwave for a test run.

But even Megatron himself is surprised when, after sufficient doses of All Spark energy via the Key, Soundwave grows fully self-aware and enhanced with Cybertronian upgrades. Neither Megatron nor Sari can control Soundwave anymore. As he explores Detroit, he is puzzled and angry to see machines like himself forced into servitude for humans; he finds this illogical and believes it should be the other way around. Megatron reveals himself to Soundwave, rather straightforwardly telling him of the Decepticon goals of conquest and machine supremacy, the injustice of the Key in Sari's possession, and the Decepticons' hatred for the treasonous Autobots who value organic life. Soundwave compels hundreds of smaller automatons to merge with him, constructing a new transforming body for himself and proclaiming himself to be a Decepticon. He commences "Operation Recruitment", using his sonic signals to turn all the automatons against both Autobots and Humanity. The Autobots attempt to track down Soundwave, but they are overwhelmed by his minions and flustered by his ability to forge deceptive messages on their own communication systems. Bulkhead manages to come face-to-face with Soundwave, but even the largest Autobot is swatted down by Soundwave's concussive sonic attacks. Soundwave attempts to convince Bulkhead of the rightness of the machine cause and the inferiority of Humanity, and orders him to destroy Sari. Bulkhead plays along for a few moments, but it's all a trick; as soon as he gets within range, he clobbers Soundwave, who shatters into his component automaton pieces.

The crisis averted, Bulkhead and Sari strengthen their friendship over some (quiet) music. Megatron fumes in disgust at their victory, swearing again to reconstruct himself. And, far beneath the city, the last intact piece of Soundwave flickers back into activation....
Other notes
Continuity errors
*Megatron wanted to use Soundwave as his own body; but in "Nanosec", Megatron makes clear that such a body would have to be built from destronium, which he cannot acquire. Then again, Soundwave was very easily damaged by Bulkhead at all stages of his evolution; perhaps Megatron meant to use the permanent repair powers of the Key to make up for sub-par construction materials.

*The Tutorbot said good afternoon to Sari while it was in the evening.

Animation errors
*When Megatron watches over Sari and Bulkhead after she has put the key into Soundwave, the key is still present around her neck.
*When Soundwave is shown from behind after Bulkhead's punch connects, his left thumb is colored blue instead of yellow.

Transformers references
*The store in the opening scene, Wyatt Toys, is almost certainly named for ranking Transformers Animated staffer Derrick J. Wyatt.

*Kremzeek is part of the "Please Stand By" image on a malfunctioning TV station.

*The animation model for the TV station's reporter looks like an older version of Hasbro/Sunbow cartoon newsman Hector Ramirez, right down to the suit he's wearing.

*One of Sari's "friends" is based on Daniel Witwicky. He was last seen with his parents in "Transform and Roll Out". Since all the "friends" are identified as children of Sumdac employees, one can assume that "Spike" and/or "Carly" work for Isaac Sumdac.

*The piñata at Sari's birthday party is a purple theropod dinosaur, yesssss....

*When arguing against using the key, Bulkhead brings up various disasters it has caused:
**The creation of the Dinobots and their subsequent rampage in "Blast from the Past".
**Adding the turbo-boosters to Bumblebee in "Nanosec".
**Blackarachnia draining the life from everything organic in "Along Came a Spider".

* Soundwave is positively oozing references to his Generation 1 predecessor. He speaks in a similar heavily-processed robotic monotone; at one point, he manifests a cylindrical shoulder cannon; he orders his minions around by directing them to perform an "Operation"; and his eyes switch from yellow (like the original toy) to red (as they appeared in the Generation 1 cartoon).

* The appearances of the present box Soundwave arrives in and the remaining piece of Soundwave are based on the Generation 1 Soundwave's altmode, albeit in a teal and gold color scheme instead of blue and silver.

Real-world references
*The episode's title is, of course, taken from a line in William Shakespeare's Macbeth, but it probably signifies nothing.

*Professor Princess's mount, "Powdered Sugar", could have stepped right out of Hasbro's popular girls-toy brand My Little Pony. Its decapitation, meanwhile, seems to be a nod to a famous scene from the movie The Godfather.

*For some reason, Sari has an old rotary phone when she calls Bulkhead.

Miscellaneous trivia
* Oh my god, the fanwank.

Allspark
:The All Spark is an artifact in the Transformers Animated continuity

A device of unknown origin and unimaginable power, the All Spark can create life itself and was the source of the Transformer race. For millions of years, Autobots and Decepticons waged the Great War over controlling it, with the Autobots only managing to defeat the Decepticons after they sent the All Spark through a space bridge portal, keeping it safely out of evil hands and effectively removing the wild card from remaining battles. If wielded by Decepticons, it would be a weapon of destruction like no other. In other words, same thing as the movie.

It seems to have a will of its own, seeking out qualified bearers and uniting even unlikely allies into a team.

It can also unfold really purdy.

Fiction
Animated cartoon
Optimus Prime and his crew from the Ark were repairing a space bridge when it activated on them. Once Prime shut down the bridge, they stumbled across the All Spark, hidden away inside a rock, having apparently emerged while the bridge was active. Ratchet told them of its history and significance in the Great War, believe it the All Spark had now found them, rather than the other way around. Almost immediately, the Decepticon leader Megatron and his crew showed up in their warship, the Nemesis, tracking the All Spark's energy readings. Megatron vowed to take the All Spark himself, but was sabotaged with a bomb by his lieutenant, Starscream. The explosion sent the Ark careening almost totally out of control until the All Spark activated a nearby space bridge, which itself exploded after the Ark went through.

The ship emerged from warp in low orbit over Earth and soon crash-landed in Lake Erie, not far from Detroit. Fifty years later, the Autobots came out of emergency stasis and ventured into the city to save people from a rampaging monster. Bumblebee quickly befriended a young girl named Sari Sumdac, who convinced him to take her aboard the Ark when his teammate Prowl was badly injured. While aboard, Sari came in contact with the All Spark, which decided for some reason to open up to her—in more ways than one. It reconfigured her security keycard into a powerful tool. With this new key, Sari could revive Autobots, activate machinery, screw up robots, and much more.

For a time, the Autobots were celebrated as Detroit's newest superheroes without having to exert themselves much, but then Starscream tracked them down. He took hostages and demanded the All Spark in exchange for their return. With Sari's help, the hostages were freed, but Starscream still managed to get hold of the All Spark, and he quickly started obliterating sections of Detroit with it. Prime attempted to wrestle the All Spark away from him, but again it opened, this time unleashing a powerful surge of energy that blasted away Starscream to parts unknown. Prime was left dangling from a tremendous height and quickly fell. He did not survive the impact, but in desperation, Sari used her reconfigured key on him. The All Spark intervened directly this time, and Prime's spark was restored online. Transform and Roll Out!

Ever since Starscream's attack on Detroit, the All Spark has remained on board the Ark at the bottom of Lake Erie.

Notes
The All Spark's powers, enigmatic origin, and storyline role are very similar to the synonymous device from the live-action movie. Its look, however, is more of an homage to the Matrix of Leadership (i.e. an orange-ish container with bracketed handles and a window in front that opens outward to reveal a glowing, blue, spherical crystal suffused with blue energy). However, the All Spark here is angular and cubic rather than curved and spheroid like the Matrix, basically hybridizing the looks of the movie and G1 devices. Wonder what happens if you put it in your chest?

The Nemesis is the Decepticon ship, originally under the command of Megatron. According to Optimus Prime, the markings on the ship depict it is a command ship.

Fiction
Animated
The Nemesis was a Decepticon warship under the control of Megatron. It showed up on the outskirts of Autobot-controlled space almost immediately after the legendary All Spark was discovered by Optimus Prime and his crew of space bridge repair-bots. It attacked Prime's ship, the Ark, in an attempt to capture the All Spark. Megatron went out to attack the Ark and seize the All Spark personally, unaware his lieutenant, Starscream, had planted a bomb on him. When the bomb detonated, the Ark went out of control, plunging toward another space bridge portal. The All Spark opened the space bridge and caused a shock wave after the Ark went through, slagging the Nemesis and Starscream inside, while the other Decepticons escaped. For the next fifty solar cycles, Starscream piloted the remains the ship, searching for the All Spark to show the Decepticons he deserved to be their new leader. When its systems detected an All Spark-like energy signature from a remote star system, he went to investigate. En route, he monitored television transmissions that depicted Prime and his Autobots as the new superheroes of Detroit. Transform and Roll Out!

Its current location is on the Moon. Starscream must have parked there and ejected himself to Earth in an escape pod. It was later discovered by Blitzwing and Lugnut when they were hunting down the Autobots. Lost and Found (Animated episode)

The Transformers Animated toy line merges the more fluid, expressive design style of the cartoon with extremely poseable robot forms (to a degree which seemed pleasantly surprising even to Hasbro). Unlike the franchises immediately before it, there is no overarcing, line-wide gimmick such as Mini-Cons or Cyber Planet Keys; rather, transforming is the gimmick, and toys will have other special features that are unique and appropriate to the characters they depict (such as triple-changing, or interchangeable weaponry). While the designs originated with Hasbro and the Cartoon Network team, TakaraTomy is once again stepping up to the plate to engineer the toys. The line debuted on July 1, 2007, in Hasbro's Future Products panel at BotCon.

Hasbro has, citing the strength of the movie toyline, postponed the release of the Animated toyline to June 2008 in the US.

Toys in the low-end Legends and Scout classes will presumably also be available, but details are not available as yet.

Activators
The Activators subcategory consists of chunkier, simpler, Scout-class-sized toys with one-touch, spring-loaded transformations. Ratchet is an example of a character that will be available as an Activator.

Bumper Battlers
An expansion on the Cyber Slammers sub-line concept for the 2007 live-action movie toys, Bumper Battlers will feature "bump-and-transform" action. Hitting the front bumper will cause the toy to change into robot mode, and pressing the toy's sigil will activate sound effect and speech gimmicks.

Others
Bumblebee will be available in a non-transforming "Animated Power Bots" version, in the style of the Cyber Stompin' Bumblebee and Optimus from the 2007 live-action movie.
