"'''Darkness Rising'''" was the five-part mini-series that kicked off the ''[[Transformers: Prime (cartoon)| Prime]]'' cartoon. As well as introducing us to the main [[Autobot]], [[Decepticon]] and [[human]] characters, it set the tone early on by introducing and ''immediately'' killing off the Autobot [[Cliffjumper (Prime)|Cliffjumper]]. Also playing a major role in the story was the return of [[Megatron (Prime)|Megatron]] with [[Dark Energon]], the essence of [[Unicron]], which has the ability to raise the dead as [[zombie]]s.

This mini-series first screened on [[The Hub]] in late November/early December [[2010]], and was released on [[Transformers: Prime (cartoon)/home video|DVD]] in the US on [[December 6]], [[2011]], editing out commercial break fade-outs and scene repeats to function as a feature-length film. It will be released in Australia on [[June 20]], 2012.
