The leader of the [[Destruction Mini-Con Team]], '''Dualor''' might very well be one of the most dangerous Mini-Cons ever. Not so much for his physical attributes, which are admittedly impressive. But Dualor is a ''staunch'' believer in Mini-Con independence, loathing all "[[bulk]]s", be they [[Decepticon]] or [[Autobot]]. He will lie, coerce, bully, and flat-out kidnap others into his cause. And there is nothing he's not willing to sacrifice... even other Mini-Cons, whether they signed up for his vision of how things should be or not. If innocents must suffer and die for his cause, well, so be it.

People like this need watching. Preferably from a distance, behind a barrier of some kind.

Dualor was captured alongside his fellow residents when [[Cyclonus (Armada)|Cyclonus]] broke through the village's defenses.

When Megatron took over Cyber City, he took a peak in one of the Mini-Con containers. Dualor (along with Buzzsaw and Blackout) looked up, and Dualor begged him that the Mini-Cons would do anything so long as Megatron didn't harm them. Two seconds later the Mini-Con escape ship blasted off, leaving Dualor trapped with Megatron along with the other handful of Mini-Cons the Decepticons had brought with them. {{Storylink|Dreamwave Armada issue 2|Armada #2|float-right}}

After their escape craft crashed on Earth's [[Moon (moon)|moon]], Dualor (who MAGICALLY changed places!) finally found himself in the position of responsibility he'd long craved, founding the [[Mini-Con Militia]] and building the concealed [[Mini-con Fortress Base]], using the constant threat of future Decepticon aggression to build a stable, regimented society which he rules with his fellow members of the [[Destruction Mini-Con Team|Destruction Team]] [[Buzzsaw (Armada)|Buzzsaw]] and [[Drill Bit (Armada)|Drillbit]]

When the Mini-Cons on Earth awakened one million years later, Dualor was prepared to take drastic action to de-escalate the situation. He sent an [[Mini-con Ark|Ark]] to Earth, involuntarily drawing many of the planet's Mini-cons to him via an override signal.

The moon base is prepared for any possible Decepticon invasion, with massive ammunition stockpiles. The Mini-Con militia is less keen on the idea of fighting the Autobots (Buzz Saw even admired Optimus Prime,) but Dualor fears that they have grown too dependent on Mini-Con augmentation to be trusted. He secretly places the Autobots' human ally [[Rad White|Rad]] (who had stowed away on the Ark) in an orbital mine to dissuade [[Optimus Prime (Armada)|Optimus Prime's]] approach.

[[Leader-1|Leader-1]] subsequently attacked Dualor and his teammates in order to take over the Fortress' control center in a bid to destroy [[Megatron (Armada)|Megatron]]. The attempt was unsuccessful, but resulted in the incapacitated Destruction Team falling into Megatron's clutches.

Megatron discovers the Destruction Team has installed a [[feedback failsafe]] to prevent them from being used against their will again, but Dualor is willing to make a deal; they'll give Megatron pure unfettered power with no afterburn in exchange for a bigger say in what's going on around here. Megatron accepts, and then designates that Cyclonus will be using the powerup, instead of him.

Predictably, Dualor lied. The Destruction team channels too much energy into Cyclonus, causing him to overhead and go crazy(er) while on a million to [[Alaska]]. For this Megatron consigns them to the [[Punishment Cube]], used for disciplining naughty Mini-Cons.

'''Slag''' is the Dinobot most likely to live up to the team's bad reputation. Slag is surly, mean-spirited, nasty, and disturbingly violent, to the point where it really is a wonder he's not a [[Decepticon]]. Slag will fight anyone, over anything, at the drop of a microchip, and fight dirty. Slag enjoys nothing more than reducing his enemies (and he's more than willing to include annoying Autobots on that list) to pools of molten metal. He'd swim in the pools to celebrate if he could.

None of the Dinobots really like [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]], but he and [[Sludge (G1)|Sludge]] share an especially intense dislike for him. But it's not just Prime's orders he questions. He'll even mouth off at [[Grimlock (G1)|Grimlock]] every now and then, which would get anyone else munched on. Slag's bad attitude means the rest of the Autobot forces are unlikely to come to his aid when he bites off more than he can chew.

Slag was developed, along with his fellow [[Dinobots]] [[Sludge (G1)|Sludge]] and [[Grimlock (G1)|Grimlock]], after the Autobots discovered dinosaur bones in their volcanic headquarters. Inspired by the power of the prehistoric beasts, [[Wheeljack (G1)|Wheeljack]] and [[Ratchet (G1)|Ratchet]] built a trio of Dinobots to add firepower to the Autobot forces. The Dinobots proved too dangerous at first, and [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]] ordered Wheeljack to abandon the Dinobot project. Wheeljack continued improving the trio of titans in secret, crafting memory components that made them smarter and easier to control. When the rest of the Autobots were captured by the Decepticons at the [[Great Falls]] hydroelectric power plant, Wheeljack dispatched the Dinobots to free their comrades and destroy the Decepticons. The Dinobots succeeded in forcing a Decepticon retreat and were welcomed as members of the Autobot team. {{Storylink|S.O.S. Dinobots}}

Later, when the Dinobots were sent to [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]] after trying to secure [[Cybertonium]], Slag rammed [[Shockwave (G1)|Shockwave]], and then tried to turn him into a chew-toy. For this, the logic-driven Decepticon altered the Dinobots' [[memory circuit]]s and put them to work in the [[Cybertonium Pit]]. [[Spike Witwicky|Two]] [[Carly|squishies]] ended up saving them. {{Storylink|Desertion of the Dinobots, Part 2}}

During the [[Battle of Autobot City]], the Dinobots battled [[Devastator]]. Slag was the only one that managed to get a hit on Devastator ramming into him at full speed. After evacuating Autobot City in the wake of [[Galvatron (G1)|Galvatron]]'s attack, the Dinobots, along with [[Kup]] and [[Hot Rod]], were shot down and crashed on [[Quintessa]]. The Dinobots searched for the two Autobots, with Grimlock believing they were close by, but Slag disagreed. They started hurling insults, and it may have turned violent, had [[Wheelie]] not appeared and pointed them in the right direction. He and Sludge broke down a door as [[Sharkticon (G1)|Sharkitcon]]s prepared to execute the Autobots, giving a belated "Excuse me!" to a [[Quintesson]] prosecutor—who was being crushed under the combined wieght of Slag, Sludge, and the door.

Slag was one of the [[Primitive]]s who were called by [[Oracle (G1)|Primacron's assistant]] to battle [[Primacron]]'s newest creation, [[Tornedron]]. When Grimlock was believed destroyed when [[Trypticon]] crashed on him, Slag took command of the Dinobots. He came up with the best strategy possible—lead the Dinobots away until he got a better idea. After Tornedron dispatched the other Primitives, Slag and the Dinobots attacked him, only to have their energy sucked from them. In the year 2011, Slag, along with his fellow Dinobots, was deployed by [[Wreck-Gar]] to deal with the sudden invasion of the Decepticon forces. Slag and his team attempted a resistance but were quickly disabled by one of [[Mindwipe]]'s hypnotic spells, which forced them all to fall asleep.

Slag was ''adorable''. (Rumor has it the animator of this scene was later found horribly mauled and burned to a crisp...at least, what they found of his corpse)

Slag was chosen by Grimlock to join his commando unit, and was with them in the Dark Ages when they split off to become the [[Lightning Strike Coalition]]. When the [[Fallen]] and his agents began systematically attacking various factions, the LSC were forced into a temporary alliance with Shockwave's Decepticons to rescue Grimlock and the others.

Despite the truce, Slag still decked [[Shrapnel (G1)|Shrapnel]]. Nobody cared.

Later on, after returning to the Shockwave-controlled Cybertron, [[Octane]] poked him in the head and called him a "primitive".

Slag is surly, mean-spirited, nasty, and disturbingly violent, to the point where it really is a wonder he's not a [[Decepticon]]. Slag will fight anyone, over anything, at the drop of a microchip, and fight dirty. Slag enjoys nothing more than reducing his enemies (and he's more than willing to include annoying Autobots on that list) to pools of molten metal. He'd swim in the pools to celebrate if he could.

None of the Dinobots really like [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]], but he and [[Sludge (G1)|Sludge]] share an especially intense dislike for him. But it's not just Prime's orders he questions. The Dinobots proved too dangerous at first, and [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]] ordered Wheeljack to abandon the Dinobot project. Wheeljack continued improving the trio of titans in secret, crafting memory components that made them smarter and easier to control. When the rest of the Autobots were captured by the Decepticons at the [[Great Falls]] hydroelectric power plant, Wheeljack dispatched the Dinobots to free their comrades and destroy the Decepticons. Lord Thunderwing became displeased with the growing success of Jazz, Grimlock, and Bumblebee and their raiding of Decepticon fuel depositories. He ordered [[Bludgeon (G1)|Bludgeon]], [[Octopunch]] and [[Stranglehold]] -- the [[Mayhem Attack Squad]] -- to find and kill the Autobot Pretenders.

At the beginning of the [[Matrix Quest]], Thunderwing began to take matters into his own hands. After learning of the Matrix from some captured Autobots, he realized that it was the key to power beyond comprehension. His obsession with finding the Creation Matrix caused some concerns for the Decepticons under his command (as they did not know of the Matrix's true power), he even attacked his own troops when accused of taking his personal quest too far.

It was at this time that Thunderwing revealed that he was one of the select few Transformers, and indeed, the only known Decepticon, to possess a natural affinity for the Matrix. He was one of the very few who could actually use the powers of The Matrix. (Whether this makes him an actual [[Matrix Templar]] like [[Snarl (BM)|Snarl]] or [[Hot Rod]] is unclear.)

After forming a psychic link with an immense whale-like alien called a [[Kludd]] whom had been restored from the brink of extinction by the Matrix's power, Thunderwing learned where the Matrix was last seen: the third moon of [[Cameron]]. Thunderwing immediately set out to retrieve it, much to the disapproval of his troops.

As it would happen, between the revival of the Kludd and the arrival of Thunderwing, The Creation Matrix had become warped. A dying alien "[[Deathbringer]]" had touched the Matrix, and was fully healed and recreated by its power. This malevolent entity gave The Matrix its first taste of evil. Later, another creature found the Matrix: a parasitic insect which existed purely to kill and destroy. The Matrix, now quite fascinated by the nature of darkness, restored and improved the creature, considering it to be the single most evil creature it had ever seen. This new creature was referred to as the [[Matrix Spawn]] and would serve as its vessel.

Meanwhile, the Autobot Pretenders, having escaped from the Mayhem Attack Squad, arrived on Cameron after hearing the reports of a research team on that moon. The researchers had discovered an incredible power source inside [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]]'s old body -- shortly before being slaughtered by the Matrix Spawn creature. The Autobots could only assume that the described "power source" was the Creation Matrix.

When Thunderwing arrived on Cameron, he attacked the Autobot Pretenders. The battle was pre-empted by the arrival of the Matrix Spawn however. Thunderwing, possessing a natural affinity for The Matrix, managed to catch The Spawn off guard, causing it to flee with Thunderwing in pursuit.

The Spawn fled straight to the Matrix, where it met Thunderwing in mortal combat. The Spawn was defeated, and the Matrix was Thunderwing's prize.

After nearly beating Optimus Prime using the power of the matrix, the other Decepticons under Thunderwing's command realized how completely Thunderwing had fallen, and turned against him. After being damaged by one of the Pretenders, the true scope of relationship between The Matrix and Thunderwing was revealed. The Matrix's newly found evil influence was even enough to dwarf Thunderwing's own judgement, and was controlling him!

After Thunderwing (or "The Vessel" as the Matrix called him) was damaged, The Matrix manifested itself as an immense spectral demon. This new entity proved to be too much for both Autobots and Decepticons to handle. After seeing what he had become, Thunderwing struggled to break free of The Matrix's control. While the Thunderwing/Matrix demon was distracted, the course of the battle shifted.

During the turmoil, the Autobots who had been captured by Thunderwing earlier in the Matrix Quest story-line had gotten free. Nightbeat managed to fire the Decepticon ship's grappling hook into Thunderwing's shoulder. They then launched the ship out of the Ark, and detonated it, apparently destroying both Thunderwing and the Matrix. This saved all the Transformers on board, but left no method for defending themselves from the coming threat of [[Unicron]].

Only when Unicron finally arrived on Cybertron, did the corrupted Matrix and Thunderwing reappear. Despite now being corrupted and enraptured by the nature of darkness, The Matrix was created to destroy Unicron. It could not deny this aspect of its existence.

Sensing its ancient nemesis, The Matrix rebuilt Thunderwing, who promptly sped to Cybertron. Unfortunately, ''because'' the Matrix was now a product of evil, it had no effect upon Unicron, who destroyed the Decepticon completely with a massive burst of energy, ending Thunderwing's career permanently. {{Storylink|On the Edge of Extinction!}}

Subsequently, Thunderwing took action on his own, subjecting himself to a "polydermal grafting" process of his own design, one that had previously been summarily rejected by Megatron as "unnatural" and "ill-concieved." This process, of grafting tissue culled from living subjects onto a Transformer to create an armored symbiotic carapace, somehow also appears to have made him the avatar of the very apocalypse he had warned against. The process drove Thunderwing insane but made him invulnerable; even the combined might of the Autobots and Decepticons coudn't stop him. In the end, he was swallowed whole by Cybertron itself, leaving the planet completely uninhabitable.

When [[Shockwave]] went missing, Megatron assigned Bludgeon to dig into his research and find out what he was up to. An indeterminate time later, Thunderwing's resting place was discovered by a group of Decepticons led by Bludgeon, who planned to continue where Thunderwing left off. The project was completed in the present day, using a combinaton of "[[Ultra-Energon]]" (culled from Shockwave's research) and a set of imprinted commands. Thunderwing was thus resurrected, and immediately departed for [[Nebulos]] following Bludgeon's plans to sacrifice that world to somehow restore Cybertron. There, Thunderwing was engaged by the Decepticon Infiltration team in place, which did not want to see Nebulos completely destroyed. After Thunderwing totalled [[Crankcase]], [[Ruckus]], and [[Roadgrabber]], the survivors, [[Dreadwind (G1)|Dreadwind]], [[Darkwing]], and [[Thrust (G1)|Thrust]], abandoned the planet, leaving Thunderwing alone. However, after the destruction of Bludgeon's control harness, Thunderwing changed course - back towards Cybertron.

There, he was attacked by Optimus Prime, the [[Wrecker]]s, the [[Predacon (G1)|Predacon]]s, and reprogrammed [[Centurion]] drones. Tailgate is an Autobot scout, not so much for his skill (for he is mediocre at best) but for two unrelated reasons. First, his hood conceals a ridiculously powerful iron-cobalt magnet, which he can use to tailgate closely beside other vehicles and travel far into enemy territory without fuel. Second, his bizarre ''idees fixees'' make him extremely poor company for other [[Autobot]]s.

Nobody knows where Tailgate got his screws knocked loose. Some say he was traumatized in a hazing ritual that went terribly wrong. At any rate, he began causing problems soon after arriving on [[Earth]], proclaiming speed limits to be an affront to liberty, and attempting to liberate "enslaved" household appliances from their alleged slavemasters. Nothing the veteran Autobots could do would dissuade him from his mad quest, or convince him of non-sentient machines on Earth. Eventually, it was decided to make him a scout, with strict orders not to break cover for any reason.

Still, every time he sees a bicycle chained to a pole, his [[spark]] burns hot with righteous anger. "Some day, my brothers will wear no chains," he thinks. "Some day, we shall break free!"

'''Pipes''' is an excellent soldier, tough, brave, and very strong, and otherwise worthy of little note, except for his unusual ability and eccentric hobby.

His ability, which he is (to be fair) not the most proficient at controlling, is to emit clouds of corrosive gases from his exhaust pipes. This is possible in both modes, but is more useful (except to annoy motorists) in robot mode, where the pipes are on his arms.

If he stays at it for at least ten minutes, these noxious gases will eat through a 2" slab of ordinary steel (special alloys take longer). His own skin is well-protected against these gases, but in battle the coatings may flake off, and if he does not notice this (as frequently occurs) he is vulnerable to his own attack, with unpleasant results.

When he came to [[Earth]], Pipes became enamored of the [[human|fleshlings']] primitive and ingenious technology, and could not resist taking home cast-off examples when on missions. Eventually, a previously disused area of the [[Ark (G1)|Ark]] became his own personal museum of nose hair trimmers, patent rulers, and other worthless but fascinating ephemera of the throwaway society. He will gladly talk for endless hours about each prized find.

Only [[Wreck-Gar]] can be said to really enjoy an extended tour of Pipes' little museum, but Pipes is a good soldier and a friendly soul, and his comrades generally allow him his little eccentricity.

Later, he accompanied [[Rodimus]], [[Kup]], and the [[Aerialbots]] on a rescue mission after [[Perceptor (G1)|Perceptor]] and friends disappearing looking for a source of chronal energy. They found the [[Quintessons]] had constructed a [[time window]] on an abandoned asteroid for the purpose of undoing the original Autobot rebellion against the Quints on Cybertron. Perceptor was found alone, suffering serious injuries, and his team missing. Pipes' mechanical skills were put to work as a battlefield medic to try and patch up Perceptor, but his incoherent mumblings about theoretical physics didn't do anyone much good.

'''Quake''' is a berserker. When he enters a battlefield, he will not rest until anything and everything within sight is in smoldering ruins, including his own comrades. It will often take cries of protest from fellow Decepticons to "point the ''other'' way, you idiot!" to remind him to pick his targets more selectively. This, he claims, is just part of one of his unconventional "battle techniques."

Quake can become so caught up in the battle frenzy that his systems can overheat and shut him down. His endurance is second-to-none, however, and he has pulled through even the seemingly final of defeats.

With the emergence of the [[Wreckers]], [[Mutant (BW)|Mutants]], and [[Dinobots (BM)|Dinobots]] on Vehicon-controlled [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]], [[Megatron (BW)|Megatron]] needed more generals to counter the insurgents. He picked the sparks of Quake and [[Blastcharge (BM)|Blastcharge]], who served Megatron's [[Megatron (G1)|namesake]] well, and put them in new Vehicon bodies and gave them experimental drones to command.

Quake and Blastcharge followed [[Primal Prime]]'s group to the lair of the recluse spider [[Arcee (G1)|Arcee]], but got there too late to catch up with the main force. Blastcharge shot [[Fractyl]], who had stayed behind to talk to Arcee. Quake rumbled that the [[Predacon (BW)|Predacon]] was only worth five points for being "a half-pint loser" rather than the ten Blastcharge claimed, leaving two drones to clean up the mess as they went to hunt down the other Wreckers.

The two arrived at the Wrecker's destination, a shuttle hangar, right in the middle of a battle between the small force and a horde of drones led by [[Spy Streak]]. Quake was not impressed with many of the Maximals' small size, and chose to taunt the relatively tiny [[Tigatron]]. This was a mistake. No, he's literally and figuratively above your average Cybertronian riff-raff. The other Combaticons could completely forget he's up here, orbiting so far above the Earth, distant and alone... with only the cold, empty void for company... and he couldn't care less. Lesser robots could hardly understand the joy... yes, thats it, the joy, he finds in efficiently and remorselessly annihilating targets from such a great distance. Blast Off was quite simply "built better" than the rest, you see, and so needs nothing from those tiny beings moving about so... so very... far away below. Blast Off... Blast Off is quite happy with his superior position, yes, quite happy and... and quite alone.

Millions of years later, Blast Off, along with his fellow Combaticons, was imprisioned by [[Shockwave]], until they were released by Starscream.

When [[Sunstorm (G1)|Sunstorm]] appeared on Earth, the battered Combaticons were ordered by Starscream to combine into Bruticus and deal with the crazed zealot. It did not end well.

The repaired Combaticons were brought to Guadalcanal where they could hone their somewhat lackluster combat skills and listen to Starscream's long-winded aspirations of glory. Blast Off declared to Vortex to 'take [Sky Lynx] down', but unfortunately, the Combaticons do not fare well when the crafty Autobot splits into his two forms, and Blast Off is embarassingly grabbed in the flying form's jaws.

It's been hypothesized that Grimlock just hates [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]] more than he hates Optimus. (Which means he must hate him A LOT.)

While the Autobots remained dormant inside [[Mount St. Hilary]], the [[Ark]] detected Cybertronian life. Dispatching a probe, the Ark learned that [[Shockwave (G1)|Shockwave]] had come to Earth and was wandering the [[Savage Land]]. The Ark used data gathered from the Savage Land to convert five of the dormant Autobots into the Dinobots. They traveled to fight Shockwave, but all combatants became trapped in a tar pit. {{storylink|The Last Stand}}

Grimlock was a powerful and arrogant warrior who believed he knew best. He ascended to the post of overall Autobot leader on several occasions, growing in the process and eventually, despite their original conflict, becoming Optimus's hand-picked lieutenant and likely successor. Early on, [[Blaster]] was a major thorn in his side, deserting his command. Later, he tended to fight with the straight-laced, logical [[Prowl]].

One of the many casualties in an [[Underbase]]-powered [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream's]] rampage, Grimlock was brought back on-line by [[Ratchet (G1)|Ratchet]], using [[Pretender]] technology stolen from Megatron. {{storylink|All the Familiar Faces!}} While Grimlock, along with [[Jazz]] and [[Bumblebee (G1)|Bumblebee]], handily defeated Megatron's minions, he was unable to save Ratchet when Megatron's base exploded. {{storylink|Skin Deep}}

Afterward, Grimlock, Jazz and Bumblebee briefly joined the Autobot resistance movement on Cybertron before attempting to return to Earth via [[Trans-Time Dimensional Portal|trans-time dimensional portal]]. However, [[Thunderwing (G1)|Thunderwing]], seeking to crush the resistance's momentum, sent ''the latest incarnation of'' the [[Mayhem Attack Squad]] to destroy the three Autobot Pretenders. Infiltrating [[Autobase]], the three Decepticons sabotaged the portal, teleporting all six Transformers (and the [[Micromaster]] [[Rescue Patrol]]) deep into the heart of Cybertron, where the Autobots discovered the resting place of their god, [[Primus]]. {{storylink|Yesterday's Heroes!}}

Grimlock at first thought it was all a Decepticon trick, and was [[Atechnogenesis|skeptical]] that the Transformers even had a god. When the [[Keeper]] appeared, Grimlock demanded the ancient Transformer "prove it" by telling them the story of the Transformers' origin. The Keeper's story (complete with holographic slide-show) was suitably convincing, but unfortunately gave the Mayhem Attack Squad time to sneak up on the Autobots, and another battle ensued. The outnumbered Decepticons were no match for Grimlock and company, but [[Bludgeon (G1)|Bludgeon's]] last-ditch shot ricocheted off the Dinobot's back, waking Primus. A few seconds too late, the Autobots in Autobase repaired the portal, sending the lost Transformers to Earth. Grimlock immediately demanded they find the Earth-based Autobots to warn them of [[Unicron]]. {{storylink|Primal Scream}}

After rejoining Optimus Prime's forces, Grimlock, Jazz and Bumblebee formed a team in the search for the lost [[Matrix of Leadership|Creation Matrix]]. Traveling to [[VsQs]], where Optimus Prime's funeral barge had crashed, the three began to search an abandoned science station for any clue as to the Matrix's whereabouts. While Bumblebee searched the computer logs, Grimlock went looking for the science team - only to discover they had all been killed. Before the Autobots could formulate a plan, Thunderwing attacked. Grimlock's first reaction was to attack, but all three could not defeat the Decepticon leader. Instead, they were "saved" by the [[Matrix Spawn]], which became Thunderwing's new target. The three Autobots searched the wrecked station independently and recovered the Matrix. Low on [[Energon]], the three attempted to return to their shuttle, but the moon's heavy gravity slowed them down, allowing Thunderwing to overtake them, defeating the three weakened Autobots and claiming the Matrix for his own. {{storylink|Dark Creation}}

After Thunderwing's defeat, the Autobots sent a shuttle to VsQs to rescue Grimlock and the others, who were low on Energon and on the verge of [[stasis lock]]. Grimlock was none to grateful for his rescue, instead berating himself for failing to destroy Thunderwing and guilty that he was alive while the other Dinobots were still deactivated. However, without Ratchet or the Matrix, the Autobots knew of no way to bring back their fallen. Grimlock sought Optimus' permission to travel to [[Hydrus 4]] and investigate the rumors of the substance [[Nucleon]]. When Optimus refused, Grimlock stole a shuttle and the bodies of the Dinobots and went anyway, which everyone really should have seen coming. {{storylink|Eye of the Storm!}}

Once on Hydrus 4, Grimlock sought out the medi-center on the island of Farooth, where the well of Nucleon was kept. Along the way, he encountered the substance's three guardians, zombie-like mechanoids who attempted to bar visitors from tapping the Nucleon. Two engaged him in combat, but Grimlock dispatched them easily. Unlike destroying Decepticons, he could take no pleasure in his victories, which seemed pointless. He began to question his motives - was he really trying to save the Dinobots, or just prove himself a better leader than Prime? By the time he reached the island of Farooth, Grimlock simply wanted the grim business done with.

At the well, Grimlock encountered the final guardian. The Hydrusian didn't want to fight, but instead warned him that Nucleon always came with unexpected side effects. To quell the doubts that had plagued him since his arrival, Grimlock decided to test the Nucleon on himself, plunging a hand into the well. Feeling a surge of power and no immediate side effects, Grimlock decided it had to be safe, and went to work reviving the other Dinobots, ignoring the Hydrusian's parting words, "Time will tell". {{storylink|The Price of Life!}}

With the Dinobots revived, Grimlock loaded up as much Nucleon as he could and returned to the Ark. {{storylink|...All This and Civil War 2}} The Dinobots found it empty (as Primus had teleported the Earth-bound Transformers back to Cybertron). Electing not to waste time looking for the others, Grimlock ordered [[Swoop (G1)|Swoop]] to set course for Cybertron while [[Sludge (G1)|Sludge]] and [[Slag (G1)|Slag]] pumped the Nucleon into the Ark's life-support pods. Cartoon Grimlock, like all the cartoon Dinobots, has a stereotypical "caveman" type personality and intellect level. They originally decide to help the Autobots, for instance, because "them have face like this on chest..." Pre-movie this lack of intelligence is usually coupled together with their great power to make them dangerous wild cards; Post-movie, however, Grimlock and the Dinobots are generally played as just plain dumb for comic relief.

When mysterious tremors shook the [[Ark|Autobot base]], [[Wheeljack (G1)|Wheeljack]]'s investigation revealed strange objects behind a rock wall. After removing the wall, the Autobots found a cave full of dinosaur bones. The Autobots decided the idea of dinosaurs was interesting and researched the prehistoric beasts. Wheeljack and [[Ratchet (G1)|Ratchet]] asked Optimus Prime if they could build robot dinosaurs, and Prime agreed this was a good idea. Grimlock, [[Slag (G1)|Slag]], and [[Sludge (G1)|Sludge]] were built and unveiled to the Autobots, but the Dinobots were dimwitted and violent, and they attacked their makers. Grimlock blasted [[Teletraan I]] with his fire-breath, damaging it. Optimus Prime decreed that the Dinobots ''must be destroyed''. However, Wheeljack convinced him instead to lock them away, and the trio were herded back into the cave and buried alive.

Later, the Decepticons took over a hydroelectric plant, but when the Autobots arrived to stop them, the Autobots were defeated and captured. Wheeljack, Ratchet, and [[Bumblebee (G1)|Bumblebee]], left behind at Autobot base to finish repairing Teletraan-I, decided to go against Optimus' orders and release the Dinobots, but not before upgrading their brains to be smarter and more obedient. After the Dinobots are reactivated, Wheeljack asks them to save their friends. Grimlock says he will obey... this time. They successfully attack the Decepticons and free the imprisoned Autobots. Optimus forgives Wheeljack, Ratchet, and Bumblebee for disobeying his orders and welcomes the victorious Dinobots back to the Autobots.

After a meteor surging with unknown energies struck the Earth, Optimus ordered the three Dinobots to guard it. He was so pleased with the Dinobots he asked Ratchet and Wheeljack to build two more. Meanwhile, Megatron was frustrated at the Dinobots' success, and sent [[Soundwave (G1)|Soundwave]] to probe them for potential weaknesses. Reading the Dinobots' minds, he discovered that Grimlock was arrogant and believed he would make a better leader than the weak Optimus Prime. Megatron decided to use this to his advantage, and approached them himself. He played to Grimlock's jealousy and agreed with him that the strongest should be leader. The Dinobots declared Optimus Prime their enemy.

Realizing the meteorite was due to explode, Optimus left to warn the Dinobots, but they attacked him. Instead of destroying him completely, however, Grimlock carried him to the Decepticons, who had stolen the meteorite during the battle. Megatron was angry that Optimus Prime was not destroyed, and Starscream suggested that despite Grimlock's arrogance, inside he was still compassionate(or as compassionate as Grimlock can get). Grimlock didn't take this well, and blasted Starscream right in the chest. They were interrupted by the two new Dinobots, [[Snarl (G1)|Snarl]] and [[Swoop (G1)|Swoop]], whom Megatron ordered the original three Dinobots to attack. At the climax of the battle, the meteorite exploded, but Optimus Prime pushed Grimlock out of the way, saving him. Grimlock realized the error of his ways and the Dinobots forced the Decepticons into retreat. Grimlock apologized for his jealousy.

The Decepticons joined forces with [[Sub-Atlantica]] and staged a full-scale attack on [[Washington, D.C.]]. The Autobots were overwhelmed, forcing Wheeljack to call for the Dinobots' assistance. Grimlock expressed his frustration at being called whenever the Autobots were in over their heads. With their help, the Autobots were able to overturn the Decepticons' advance and plunge the city of Sub-Atlantica, burning, into the sea. This pattern of the Autobots' dependence on the Dinobots repeated when the artificial intelligence [[TORQ III]] turned machines against mankind. With every piece of help he and his troops gave, Grimlock was never slow to add a scathing remark about the inabilities of the Autobots. That said, he was not unwilling to admit the failings of his own troops, either, and willingly took them to the time-displaced "Dinobot Island," where they trained in the wilderness and helped stop a Decepticon raid on the prehistoric paradise.

The final straw for Grimlock came when he and the Dinobots were injured in a Decepticon trap at an airfield. Enraged, Grimlock refused to take orders from Optimus Prime any more, and led the Dinobots away from the Ark. When the Autobots began to suffer from Cybertonium deficiency, Spike Witwicky and his girlfriend Carly attempted to persuade the Dinobots - who continued to function perfectly, as they had been built on Earth without Cybertonium - to steal some of the mineral from a Decepticon shipment coming in from Cybertron. Grimlock instead opted to lead the Dinobots to Cybertron itself, where they were captured by [[Shockwave (G1)|Shockwave]] and put to work in the Cybertonium mines, until Spike and Carly rescued them. Brought back to Earth, the Dinobots agreed to follow Prime's order again - until such time as Grimlock didn't feel like it.

After fleeing [[Galvatron (G1)|Galvatron]]'s attack on [[Autobot City]], the Dinobots, along with [[Kup]] and [[Hot Rod]], crashed on [[Quintessa]], and were separated from the two Autobots. During their search, the Dinobots met [[Wheelie]]. Grimlock initially didn't like the rhyming little robot, but eventually grew quite fond of him, letting him ride his back. While saving Hot Rod and Kup from the [[Sharkticon]]s, a [[Quintesson]] judge ordered the Sharkticons to execute the Dinobots. Grimlock stompped his foot on the ground, and ordered the Sharkticons to execute the Quintessons. They complied. Later, Grimlock was to be able to literally kick the butt of [[Unicron|a deity]].

By the Earth year 2005, it seemed apparent that Grimlock had undergone some degree of a personality change, becoming more childish and petulant, rather than brutish and stubborn. Throughout 2006, he regularly participated in missions with his fellow Autobots rather than the other Dinobots, battling on the planets of [[Chaar]], Goo, Dredd and [[Eurhythma]]. He and [[Daniel Witwicky]] were transported to the sorcerous other-dimensional realm of Menonia, where Grimlock was duped into fighting on the side of the tyrannical [[Quintesson]], the Red Wizard, and later, he helped to sniff out the "dinosaur transform static" that implicated [[Trypticon]] in the theft of world monuments. Later in the year, when Decepticon leader [[Galvatron (G1)|Galvatron]] had Cybertron infused with function-inverting anti-electrons, a dose of the particles gave Grimlock super-intelligence. During a mission to [[Unicron]]'s disembodied head, where the Autobots were outmatched by the new Decepticon [[Terrorcon (G1)|Terrorcons]], Grimlock used components of Unicron's head to construct the [[Technobot|Technobots]] to battle them. Combined as Computron, the Technobots felt they could not match the Terrorcons, until Grimlock transferred his super-intelligence into Computron, reverting to his old self and allowing the Technobots to claim victory.

Grimlock's greatest victory came when he and a large number of other Transformers with animal transformations were summoned to a world at the centre of the galaxy by the ex-assistant of the ancient genius, [[Primacron]], creator of Unicron. The assistant had assembled these "Primitive" Transformers in the hope that their simple instincts could defeat Primacron's newest creation, [[Tornedron]], but one by one they fell to him, with Grimlock apparently crushed under [[Trypticon]]. Grimlock survived, however, and followed Tornedron back to Primacron's lab. When Tornedron turned on his master, like his predecessor, Primacron's complicated plans and equations could not find a way to stop him; Grimlock, on the other hand, randomly flicked a switch which reversed Tornedron's energy polarity, undoing the damage he and done and dissipating. Dancing around over his successful saving of the universe, Grimlock decimated Primacron's lab, dubbing it the smartest thing he'd ever done

===Dreamwave comics continuity===
Grimlock, years ago, before the war, was part of a cage-fighting arena. He and [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream]] fought beside and against each other on numerous occasions. Starscream believed Grimlock was a natural born killer, but Grimlock really just carried alot of rage and anger and needed an outlet.

When the war began, Grimlock sided with the Decepticons. Then, after a while, he switched sides and went to the Autobots. Nobody is quite sure why or what happened.

By the time [[Sentinel Prime]] is killed and a new Prime must be chosen, Grimlock calls a secret meeting: If new Prime isn't up to doing what has to be done, then they'll do it for him - and take the Prime out in the process.

Optimus Prime, having defeated a team of Decepticons by himself, still didn't settle Grimlock's nerves. Prime's decision to evacuate Cybertron did it; Grimlock had enough. He left and went to brood by himself.

Starscream and his Seekers dropped by while Grimlock was alone. Starscream baited Grimlock, telling him he was a Decepticon inside and just was in denial. He gave him a choice: go to Sector Zero-Six and help the Seekers take out the Autobot command post, or warn them about their arrival.

Grimlock, out of spite, instead evacuated the Autobots from the base and planted a bomb, and a message: "Me not like Optimus Prime or Autobots that much...but me like you and yours even less!"

While he was on his way back to Iacon One to help with the defense, Prowl ordered him away, instead telling him to go find Optimus Prime. Grimlock decided that it was a good opportunity to give the new Prime a piece of his mind.

While he and the team went deep in Cybertron's core to find Prime, they found out about Megatron's plan; to win the war, and turn Cybertron into a mobile battlestation with which to conquer the universe. He split up the team - he would go find Optimus Prime, the rest of the team would shut down the transformation system for Cybertron.

To his surprise, Prime abruptly was standing next to him. Prime ordered Grimlock to help him find Megatron. Grimlock's response was clear: if Megatron is the problem, then fix it.

When the crisis was over, Grimlock no longer questioned Optimus Prime. He knew that Prime had figured things out, and though he didn't execute Megatron, he wasn't going to spend his time in the war running away.

Millenia later, on Earth, Megatron captured the other four Dinobots, a fact which he used as leverage to get Grimlock to turn traitor and join the Decepticons after they were reactivated by [[Lazarus]]. It didn't last very long, though, as [[Shockwave (G1)|Shockwave]] soon showed up and hauled Megatron off to Cybertron, prompting Grimlock to rejoin the Autobots and then free the other Dinobots.

And so, against orders from Optimus Prime, they followed Shockwave when he left Cybertron to stabilize "Ultra-Energon" deposits he had sent to other worlds as a precaution against the depletion of Cybertron's own Energon reserves.

When Shockwave reached his first destination - Earth, at the end of the last Ice Age - the Dynobots destroyed his ship and took on dinosaur alternate modes with synthetic flesh coatings to protect against the high levels of Energon radiation (see also [[Beast Wars]]), Grimlock having rejected the suggestion of a mammoth alternate mode as not at all palatable (but got plenty excited at the notion of a Tyrannosaurus mode).

On transporting down to the planet's surface to confront Shockwave, they gained an initial advantage, as Shockwave's logic was unable to comprehend the effort and risks they had taken for their revenge. However, when Shockwave recognized this weakness shut down his logic processors and operated a "rage" program to enable him to operate on pure instinct, he shrugged off their attacks and beat them severely, ending by burning off their organic coatings. Unable to accept another defeat, Grimlock transformed to robot mode and fought against his imminent [[stasis lock]] to no avail.

However, before leaving the Dynobots' ship, he had enabled a "dead man's switch", designed to take Shockwave with them if they were defeated. On entering stasis lock, this failsafe activated, firing on a nearby dormant volcano, causing an eruption which buried Shockwave and the Dynobots under ash and lava.

However, in 2006, Shockwave was discovered by a team of human archelogists. Whether he, Grimlock or the rest of the Dynobots can/will be reactivated remains to be seen.
