The '''Pax Cybertronia''' was the unilateral peace accord signed after the [[Autobot|Autobots]] defeated the [[Decepticon|Decepticons]] in the [[Great War (G1)|Great War]]. Little is known about how it came into existence, but it is known that [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]] played an incredibly significant role in making it happen.{{fact}}

==Accords of surrender==
When the Decepticons surrendered at the end of the Great War, terms were drawn up to keep the peace until a formal treaty could be written. Any Autobot or Decepticon criminals acting outside of this agreement was a fair target for military action.

Under the accords, the Predacon alliance was subject to such strict economic sanctions the production of new [[Predacon (BW)|Predacon]] [[Protoform|protoforms]] slowed to a bare trickle, and the [[Tripredacus Council]] feared that any overt confrontation with the Maximals could doom their entire race to extinction. During this period the Tripredacus Council began aggressively undermining the actions of Predacon rebels, hoping to shield them from destruction by the [[Maximal Imperium]] so that they might live to fight another day. This, combined with the original surrender, permanently soured the Council's reputation among their fellow Predacons, leading many to consider them self-interested opportunists and traitors to the Predacon cause.

According to the known terms, it places the Decepticons (and later their descendants the [[Predacon (BW)|Predacons]]) at great disadvantage, with the Autobots (and later the [[Maximal|Maximals]]) firmly in control. It kept the peace on [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]], while keeping much information away from the [[Transformer|Transformers]] about their ancestors.

Leading up to the [[Beast Era]], powerful factions within the [[Predacon Alliance]] such as the [[Tripredacus Council]] want to continue to build up their resources under the restrictions placed on them by the Pax Cybertronia before a new campaign of conquest. This is a major point of contention between the leadership of the Alliance and sub-factions that would prefer action today.

[[Dinobot (BW)|Dinobot]] challenges [[Optimus Primal]] to mortal combat for the leadership of the [[Maximal]]s. [[Rhinox (BW)|Rhinox ]] wonders if the rest of them get a say, while [[Rattrap]] is indifferent and [[Cheetor (BW)|Cheetor]] offers to nail the [[Predacon (BW)|Predacon]] himself. Optimus tries to talk sense to Dinobot, saying he's welcome to join the group, but not as leader. Dinobot is unimpressed; the two duel. Rattrap has to restrain Cheetor from joining in. Primal knocks Dinobot down, and the Predacon tells him to finish the job, but Optimus refuses, and Dinobot responds by blasting him, almost sending the Maximal leader over the edge. Dinobot helps him back up, stating that Primal slipped and that winning the fight that way would not have been honorable.

As they continue to fight, [[Megatron (BW)|Megatron]] and his crew arrive, taking the chance to attack both combatants. Primal transforms to beast mode, pulling Dinobot out of the way of the missiles, but leaving the pair dangling over the ravine. Dinobot begins suffering from energon buildup, and pleads with Optimus to let him fall so that Optimus might save himself, but Optimus naturally refuses. The pair is saved at the last moment by Rhinox. This is the signal for another attack from the Predacons, which takes out the rock bridge. The Maximals (bar Rattrap, who has to be saved by Optimus) reach the other side of the bridge in time.

Megatron takes his frustrations out on [[Terrorsaur (BW)|Terrorsaur]], but [[Scorponok (BW)|Scorponok]] points to where some of the Predacon missiles have struck a mountain, unveiling a massive cache of [[Energon (fuel)|energon]] crystals. The Predacons set out for the mountain, but they're spotted heading for the energy crystals by the Maximals. Rhinox and Rattrap are ready to scrap Dinobot before starting out, but Optimus stops them. They set out for the mountain as well, though Rattrap is less than impressed with the news that Dinobot is coming too.

En route, Rhinox suggests Optimus fly ahead using his jets, but Primal believes there's strength in numbers. They spot a strange [[Standing Stones|stone circle]], obviously artificially built, but are interrupted in their discussion by the arrival of Terrorsaur and [[Waspinator (BW)|Waspinator]]. Optimus takes to the air and scares them off with a missile. As the two Predacons flee, Dinobot fires on them with his [[Optic weaponry|optical lasers]], inadvertently blasting the ledge above them. Rhinox is forced to leap aside as a boulder comes crashing down on him, and Rattrap accuses him of intentionally trying to slag Rhinox. Optimus orders him to stand down.

The Maximals arrive at roughly the same time, and both sides eye each other across a pass through the top mountain. After the prerequisite speech from Megatron, both sides charge and begin tearing into one another in beast form. Despite biting a chunk out of Optimus, Megatron is thrown aside and, as a last desperate gamble, transforms and fires a missile on Optimus. Dinobot throws himself between the pair, knocking the missile with his tail and saving Primal, but the missile begins a chain reaction. Both teams quickly flee.

As the Maximals watch the resultant explosions, Dinobot explains that his actions are payment of a debt—he owed Primal his life; now they are even. Primal says that's good enough for the moment, and proclaims that the [[Beast Wars (event)|Beast Wars]] have begun.

Oddly enough, Cheetor is no longer in the scene at all.

* The very same scene features a lot of rubble from the destroyed mountain in close-ups of Rattrap and Rhinox, but relatively little rubble when Optimus Primal and Dinobot are in the foreground.

*Megatron transforms without his command code.

===Plot errors===
* Scorponok directs Megatron's attention to the missiles approaching the mountain. The missiles then hit the mountain, revealing it to be full of energon. There's no reason to believe Scorponok knew the energon was there, so why did he ''care'' about the imminent impact of the missiles?
* Megatron deciding to destroy the mountain is...questionable. Though Optimus Primal managed to throw him into a rock face, Primal himself was down and crippled, while Megatron appeared ready to keep fighting.

Little is known of the mysterious order referred to as the '''Sith''', a group shrouded in many layers of secrecy and deception. What is known is that like the [[Jedi]] order, they believe in a mystical bioenergy field called the "[[Force]]", which is apparently dualistic in nature. The Sith claim to draw their power from the "dark side" of said Force, which is fed by strong negative emotion, allowing them to use a form of "[[magic]]".

What little history of their home galaxy has been revealed to us suggests that the Sith have been engaged in many campaigns against the [[Galactic Republic]] and the Jedi order, often using other factions at a remove, such as the [[Mandalorian]]s and, more recently, the [[Confederacy|Separatists]].

They do not seem to have very many mechs at their disposal compared to other known factions. Whether this is due to a reliance on their Force or a desire not to have traceable links to known manufacturers of battle machines is unknown. However, their use of the Force gives them a considerable combat advantage, making use of mechs potentially unnecessary.

Leo pointed out Alice to Sam as he was moving into the dorms at [[Princeton University]]. Leo explained to Sam that he had a thing for the bounteously endowed blonde, and he wanted to make sure Sam knew it so he didn't steal her away. Later that night, Leo had dragged Sam to a fraternity party, where the wayward Witwicky became engrossed in writing [[Cyberglyphics]] symbols in the cake frosting. This caught Alice's eye, and she decided she simply ''had'' to strike up a conversation with the boy who'd just accidentally stuck chocolate frosting in his ear. Though Sam protested against her rather forceful advances, she ignored his pleas until her attempt at seduction was interrupted by the timely arrival of [[Bumblebee (Movie)|Bumblebee]] on the [[Delta Fraternity|fraternity house's]] lawn. Sam appeared grateful for the reprieve until Alice invited herself for a ride. Bumblebee tried his best to monkey-wrench her attempts at conversation with Sam during the ride, but eventually got frustrated and went the expedient route of dousing her in antifreeze. Alice got out and left in a huff.

Later on, Alice made her way to Sam's dorm room to talk to him without the meddling yellow one around. En route she was engaged by Leo, who again proclaimed his desires for her and offered her a meat-laden pizza. She icily ignored him, finding the true object of her desires when the dorm room's door was opened to reveal Sam, who had covered every flat surface in it with Cyberglyphic symbols. Leo, figuring out what was to come next, asked if he could at least watch. Alice summarily shut the door in his face. Once again giving Sam the hard-sell, she forced him onto the bed and began probing his oral region with her tongue. Meanwhile, an entirely different probing appendage snaked out from beneath her skirt. Stealthily retracting the metallic tentacle when [[Mikaela Banes]] burst in, Alice waited until the human had left, and then proceeded to extrude it again and wrap it about Sam's neck, closing off his windpipe. Mikaela returned, hearing Sam's strangled cries, and dislodged Alice by throwing the toolbox containing [[Wheelie (ROTF)|Wheelie]] at her. Leo returned at this point, only to flee as Alice transformed into a robotic war machine!

Alice chased the trio out of the dorm, and through the campus library where she destroyed several shelves with energy blasts, eventually firing wide and blasting a hole in the library wall. Her quarry fled through the opening and Mikaela hotwired a car. Catching up with them, Alice leaped onto the hood and tried to get at Sam by smashing through the windshield. Mikaela tried to shake Alice off by driving, but had no luck until she rammed the car, and thus the Decepticon infiltrator, into a lamp post. Silverbolt dutifully patrols the Maximals' fortified entrance to [[Mount St. Hilary]]. Megatron, trying another attack on the Maximals' base, sends sub-commander Waspinator with a large explosive (from…somewhere) to destroy the patrolling Fuzor. Waspinator delivers the missile and destroys Silverbolt's gunning turret, and when Primal, Cheetor, and Rattrap rush outside to defend their home, Waspinator commands a full attack. But without support from additional troops, Waspinator is quickly crushed by Primal.

Hiding out of Primal's sight, Tarantulas blows a dart that burrows itself into Primal's foot, crawls through the Maximal leader's interior machinery, and accesses Primal's own spark. Primal disregards the infection, tells Cheetor to "take a rest" with a suspiciously Western drawl, and punches out the young Maximal.

Blackarachnia returns to the Maximal base, surprised by the open doors. She finds the entire interior dark. Primal sneaks up on the arachnid, and when she reveals that Depth Charge isn't with her, he grabs her as if she were a toy. With the widow restrained, Megatron and his crones step out of the darkness. Quickstrike is revealed to be controlling Optimus by piloting a large, mechanical suit of similar form to Primal's body. The other Maximals are being kept deactivated in a hanging cage.

Meanwhile, Quickstrike uses Primal's body to give Megatron access to the Ark's interior. Megatron walks through the halls of the ship to find what he's looking for: his namesake [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]]. The Predacon leader opens his own chest, and a tentacle reaches out of it to access the [[spark]] of his predecessor. After a bit of struggle, Megatron takes both sparks into his body. While Megatron convulses from the pain of containing two sparks, Quickstrike, who is secretly working for Tarantulas, dumps his leader into one of the lava pits outside.

Blackarachnia is left in the care of [[Rampage (BW)|Rampage]], who delights in causing her pain, but she overpowers the massive Transmetal crab by using her telekinesis to knock him down with a steel girder. She sneaks through the base, then leads Inferno away from the Maximals he's supposed to be protecting and locks him outside so she can free her team.

Quickstrike gives Tarantulas access to [[Teletraan I (G1)|Teletraan I]]. Tarantulas then sends Quickstrike away to destroy the Maximals while he rigs the Ark to explode, which will kill all Autobots and Decepticons within it. As Tarantulas leaves the Ark, Megatron emerges from the lava, now reconfigured into a dragon form by his plunge into the molten rock and the additional spark within him. Megatron burns the spider who betrayed him and tosses Tarantulas into a distant lava pool as punishment for failing.

Quickstrike, still piloting his armor, finds Blackarachnia and double-teams her using Optimus's body, which is still under his control. But with a well-placed blast, she causes the two giants to fall over each other. The fall frees Optimus, who remembers what he did under Quickstrike's control, and he and Blackarachnia head back into the Ark to prevent the devastation.

Megatron finds Optimus, and the two enhanced transformers battle. While Blackarachnia tries to save the Ark, Megatron shows off his new abilities against his most hated enemy. I figured out what Megatron is doing to Optimus here: injecting cyber venom through his teeth. I came to this conclusion after watching this [[Wikipedia:Kevin Grevioux|Kevin Grevioux]] special on making a realistic movie dragon. Through study of scientific fact, they revealed a misconception about komodo dragons, that they don't use corrosive bacteria to kill their prey; instead they inject venom from glands connected to their teeth. I then realized that's what Megatron was doing, that and it looked similar to Quickstrikes cyber venom (not in color, though). Rhinox tells him this will probably not work, as core consciousness without a spark is only an illusion of the person to whom it belonged. Rumors ran rampant that the script had been rejected for being "too dark", and this account was seemingly confirmed by DiTillio in an [[August 10]], [[1998]] post to ATT<ref>[http://groups.google.com/group/alt.toys.transformers/msg/b6d29cf8c43353d9?dmode=source DiTillio gives facts on the script on ATT]</ref> and by Marx in a [[November 16]], 1998 post to a ''[[wikipedia:Jem (TV series)|Jem]]'' mailing list.<ref>[http://jemlist.tripod.com/vol3askc.html#toodark "Ask Christy", Volume 3]</ref>

Several months later, on the same day that Palaste posted the plot summary, [[Jon Hartman]] also posted to ATT to say that [[Claster]], the series distributor, had rejected the episode because the story did not have enough action<ref>[http://groups.google.com/group/alt.toys.transformers/msg/4d506e88c7db00b1?dmode=source Hartman claims on ATT that Claster canned the show]</ref>. This statement is in moderate conflict with the earlier statements by parties closer to the events in question, but grimness and a lack of action could certainly go hand-in-hand. Additionally, Claster at this time was a subsidiary of Hasbro, so it possible that Hartman's claims are simply a more detailed description than had been provided by DiTillio or Marx.

Many years later, however, on [[Madman Entertainment]]'s 2006 Region 4 ''Beast Wars'' Season 3 DVD<ref>[http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/archive/index.php/t-115895.html (TFW2005 broken link about ???)]</ref>, the same Larry DiTillio said this:

''Q: Is it true that there was to be an episode called "Dark Glass" in season 3, but refused production by [[Hasbro]]?''

''A: No, this is actually not true. "Dark Glass" was rumored as a lost episode that was to feature Rattrap attempting to restore the original Dinobot's personality to Dinobot 2, and that when the episode was refused, "Go with the Flow" was made instead. The truth is that "Dark Glass" was written for season 2 and rejected by the story editors, not Hasbro, because the script was not up to standard. The script was replaced by "[[Transmutate (episode)|Transmutate]]", a great episode that was a better fit for season 2."''

Given that eight years had passed when he said this, it is likely that he misremembered the sequence of events. This account contradicts statements by himself and Marx, a sneak peek at the [http://www.electric-escape.net/tf/conventions/BotCon-98/Jon-Wilkie episode list (broken link)] for season 3 seen at [[BotCon 1998]], and the confusion surrounding the failed distribution of the script at Transcon III (see below). Therefore, the DVD account should be taken quite skeptically.

==Availability of the script==

Although the episode was dropped from the schedule long before any animation or voice recording would have been done, the "Dark Glass" did have a full first-draft script written by Marx, which was then rewritten once by DiTillio, as stated in his post from August 10, 1998.

On [[August 29]], 1998, just a couple weeks after DiTillio explained the rejection, toy dealer Dennis Barger of [[Men in Black]] Collectibles—the organizers of [[BotCon 1996]]—posted to the thread to announce that he had acquired a copy of Marx's script from her. For his upcoming unofficial convention, Transcon III, he planned to place the original in a charity auction, and distribute reproductions to all attendees.<ref>[http://groups.google.com/group/alt.toys.transformers/msg/09de29f3be95d9f8?dmode=source Announcement on ATT about the script distribution offer]</ref> Hearing concerns from fans, Barger later stated that he would have all recipients of the script sign non-disclosure agreements to prevent spoilers from being leaked until the third season had aired.<ref>[http://groups.google.com/group/alt.toys.transformers/msg/a0f298132398c745?dmode=source Announcement on ATT about non-disclosure agreement for the script]</ref> (Transcon III was to take place in September 1998, while season three wouldn't even premiere until October.) However, as stated in Marx's ''Jem'' list post, and later summarized on ATT by [[User:Repowers|Rob Powers]]<ref>[http://groups.google.com/group/rec.toys.transformers.moderated/msg/ab4c0a0d07cac1c1?dmode=source Repowers' ATT summary of the situation]</ref>, Barger had not obtained the proper approvals from Hasbro and/or Mainframe, and the whole affair fell apart. The script was returned to Marx. Furthermore, Mainframe decided that no scripts were ever to be released to the public again, and indeed, although scripts for seasons one and two of ''Beast Wars'' were available on [[Ben Yee]]'s website, those for season three and ''Beast Machines'' were never put up.<ref>[http://bwtf.com/bw/tvshow/episodes/seasonthree/ Ben Yee's Episode Pages (broken link)]</ref>

There was a sizeable interest in the script from fans, and Dave "Zobovor" Edwards even gathered over 500 signatures to a petition for the script's release, but he never received a response and by September 1999, he threw in the towel.<ref>[http://groups.google.com/group/alt.toys.transformers/msg/194fe613938e7856?dmode=source Results of Zobovor's script release petition on ATT]</ref>

==Story significance==
Fans have extrapolated that this episode would have explained Dinobot's re-emerged personality in the show's final episode, "[[Nemesis Part 2]]".

In that episode, [[Rampage (BW)|Rampage]], whose [[spark]] powered the Transmetal II clone of Dinobot, was killed, and his spark extinguished. At the same time, Dinobot II suddenly seemed to remember the last moments of the original Dinobot, and his behavior changed drastically; speaking of honor, he defied [[Megatron (BW)|Megatron]] and essentially switched sides (before dying again).

These events are difficult to explain, perhaps especially so without "Dark Glass". The Dinobot II body was a clone of the original Dinobot, but did not (as far as is known) possess his core consciousness, memories, engrams, etc. Rather, Dinobot II seems to have been a [[shell program]] written by Megatron running on top of a fragment of Rampage's spark. In this case, it is unclear why, in the absence of Rampage's spark, Dinobot II would suddenly act more like Dinobot I. However, if the events of "Dark Glass" are taken to have occurred off-camera, it becomes easier to understand: two shell programs and a spark all fighting for dominance over a single body. With the spark gone, the Dinobot I shell may have had an opportunity to take over.

On the other hand, even with "Dark Glass", the picture is incomplete. Dinobot saw visions of the original Dinobot's last moments, his battle with the Predacons in the rift valley at the end of "[[Code of Hero]]". These memories could not have been part of the download Dinobot made into the ''Axalon'''s computer earlier in the season. For them to surface within him, they must have either been added to the datatrax he was programmed with (by either Megatron or Rattrap), or they must have come from Dinobot's own spark, if that spark somehow left the [[Allspark]] and inhabited the cloned body when Rampage's spark departed. All three of these possibilities have their share of implausibility, so it is up to each fan to pick an interpretation that they like to include in their [[personal canon]].
