:Well, I see everyone explained that he didn't on his page, so I suppose I'll explain ''why'' he didn't: The ship's reformatting matrix and the remaining pods on the ship got busted, and he and Cliffjumper of course didn't get their own stasis pods because they remained on board when everyone else escaped. Well, I mean, I could maybe see coming up with a name to refer to "non-BW G1" for anyone who appears in multiple G1-franchise continuities but never BW-franchise ones, if the distinction ever needs to be made. But I don't really think it does, since considering that 99% of G1 characters don't show up in BW, that's the "default" anyway.
:The only reason I was leery of calling the IDW Swarm "G1" is because the G2 Swarm also has shown up in G1 stories, ''and'' came first, thus leading to potential confusion for editors and readers trying to keep the parentheticals straight while linking and reading.
:But in situations where you don't have to worry about that sort of clashing, I don't really see how pre- and post-BW matters. BW is pretty much a "spin-off sequel" franchise doing its own thing. Leaving personal attacks aside for the moment, it's BECAUSE I'm a pro author that I give so little weight to authorial intent. It's a shared universe, with many many authors. What one author begins with can be (and often is) changed by subsequent authors. For instance, Ron Friedman didn't intend Unicron to be a dark god (or, for that matter, built by Primacron.) And yet, he was. Larry DiTillio always intended the Vok to be the source of all Transformer sparks, but that idea hasn't yet made it to the canon and has, in fact, been mostly contradicted by other sources. And, as a pro author, I can basically insert anything I want into the universe or draw any connection I see fit. I often do, in fact. Harrison Edsel and Mayor Edsel, for instance. People seem to like it when I do that, and I have no intention of stopping.

Also, what constitutes an author? A writer? A penciler? An inker? A colorist? The director? The storyboard artist? The letterer? The editor? The sound editor? You laugh, but any one of them can influence the canon. Nel Yomtov colors a character incorrectly and we have a new character (maybe.) The storyboard artist forgets to draw Dai Atlas into the Autobot council and all of the sudden he's not on it. Should we poll all of them?

It seems very clear to me that the foundation for authorial intent is very shaky.

:Thing is, in a shared universe, when another author comes in to change things, it generally gets changed ''in the canon''. In those cases, I won't dispute that authorial intent doesn't matter, because it's what's actually stated in the canon that goes.
:But when canon either doesn't specify or can be interpreted more than one way, then authorial intent comes into play. Except that you seem to tend to think we should ignore authorial intent in favor of your personal canon. Well... no, sorry, the author's canon takes precedence over fanon.
:In this case and the Killzone case, there's no blatant canon similarity, so we go down a step to authorial intent. And since authorial intent exists in these cases, fan theories, whether yours or mine, have no place in it.
:The only time fan theory ever comes into place is if the first two conditions don't exist. RID Side Burn's status in Shattered Glass is a good one here. There's nothing in canon that definitively states either way, except for hints that he's somehow strange. And a step down from that, Sipher and Troop have been deliberately mum on the subject. So we're left with going what fits the evidence best... and considering that he ''is'' portrayed as strange, he disappeared into an anomaly in a previous FunPub story in a similar manner to Cliffjumper, and FunPub very frequently likes to have all of its stories tied together whenever possible (plus IIRC, his altmode is actually the same in both stories)... there it actually makes some sense, for now, to assume that RID Side Burn is the one in SG, because there's more circumstantial evidence in favor than against until direct canon or authorial intent says otherwise.
:And personally, I think an author constitutes an author. The artist's job is generally to help tell the story the writer created, not make up bits of the story himself. If the author meant one thing, and something not related to a change in the script shows different, I'd call it a mistake on the non-author's part. I mean, for instance, when in a Sunbow episode we see a blue-colored jet behaving like Skywarp, we don't say that the colorist got to rewrite part of the story so that Thundercracker temporarily changed personalities, we call it what it is: a coloring error where it was actually meant to be Skywarp.
:You have a very annoying tendency to pretend to be obtuse and twist people's words around so you can try and create a loophole out of thin air that will prove you right. IMHO an "honest and vigorous" debater makes points against what someone actually said and meant. Or at least a ''successful'' one does... because if you're busy debating a point I didn't actually make, or based off what I didn't actually say, then I fail to see why you think that's going to convince me that my point is wrong.

The monsters in MMPR always started out human-sized. Then, at some point, Rita throws her staff down from the Moon shouting "Make my monster grow!". The staff lands in the ground and energy shoots out of it, making the monster enormous. The laser effects around Megatron's cannon in that picture look a lot like the staff. ==Synopsis==
Eager to aid the [[Autobot]] war effort but constantly overlooked due to his stature, Wheelie is ecstatic when he is finally asked to help with the search for habitable worlds. Shortly after leaving, though, his ship hits a radiation belt that shorts out his systems, and he is forced to make a crash-landing on the world of [[LV-117]], a planet which turns out to be populated with giant monsters. Wheelie does what he can to survive and fends off the denizens. After attempting to use the [[universal greeting]] on a [[chaosteros]], Wheelie loses one of his arms. He subsequently retrieves it from the beast's... '''dung''' ...but thereafter his arm does not properly transform, causing him excruciating pain whenever he enters vehicle mode.

Eventually, he sights another ship crashing to the surface. When he tracks it down, he finds [[Decepticon]]s Spectro and Spyglass preparing to torture an alien they have captured. Wheelie frees him, and sneaks aboard the ship amidst the confusion. Unfortunately, the crash has damaged the ship beyond repair, dashing his plans to use it to escape. Suddenly remembering the third member of Spectro and Spyglass's trio, Wheelie turns around to find Viewfinder, impaled in his command chair by a large piece of the shattered canopy. Pausing to wonder whether Viewfinder or he himself was the lucky one, he goes off in search of the alien he set free, eventually finding and befriending him.

The alien, named Varta, speaks entirely (through a universal translator chip) in rhyme and reveals that he has a spaceworthy ship. The only thing it lacks is a power source, and Wheelie happily volunteers the [[Energon (fuel)|energon]] converter he's been lugging around. They work together for a time to patch up the ship and get it ready to fly, with Wheelie adopting Varta's strange, rhyming speech in the process. As they prepare to launch the ship, they are ambushed by Spectro and Spyglass. The Decepticons shoot Varta in the back and threaten to finish him off if Wheelie doesn't climb out of the ship and let them have it. Though he initially considers taking off and leaving Varta, he realizes that if he does so, he would be turning his back on what it means to be an Autobot. He solemnly descends the ladder while the pair absconds in the rocket, congratulating themselves on their bluff—they had used the last charge in their laser to stun Varta. Varta is surprised that Wheelie would give up his freedom for his sake, but Wheelie says it really all came down to faction... that, and he removed the safety catch from the energon converter used to power the ship, causing it to explode in midair.

A year later, Varta and Wheelie have salvaged what they could from the wreckage of both their ship and the Decepticon cruiser and made a new home for themselves. No longer depressed, Wheelie feels renewed hope for the future and gazes up at the massive Autobot emblem adorning the top of their makeshift home. Meanwhile, in the nearby ruins of an ancient temple, a wall painting of a [[Quintesson]] begins to crack, the eyes glowing through the rock...

The Maximal who would become Airazor was boarding her ship, the ''[[Chromia 10]]'', when Unit 2 approached and demanded use of it. "Airazor" at first refused, but suggested she was open to... persuasion. The call of adventure captured her interest, and instead of handing over the ''Chromia 10'' to Unit 2, she allowed him to hitch a ride, piloting it herself.

The ''Chromia 10'' intercepted the Predacons' ship, the ''[[Darksyde]]'', which was engaged in battle with the ''[[Axalon (BW)|Axalon]]'' and guarded by a mysterious third ship. During the ensuing firefight, the ''Chromia 10'' was badly damaged. [[Optimus Primal]] had "Airazor" and Unit 2's [[spark]]s remotely uploaded to blank protoforms in the Axalon's cargo hold, which saved their lives, but severely damaged their core mainframes. {{storylink|Dawn of Future's Past}}

Their first big adventure together came when a flying island paradise was discovered. The island, however, was covered in booby-traps which were triggered by the use of energy weapons. Airazor rescued Tigatron when he was ambushed by Predacons on the island, but she was damaged badly. {{storylink|The Trigger, Part 1}} Tigatron carried her on his back, refusing to leave her behind, and the pair worked together to avoid and overcome the island's traps. The island was ultimately destroyed, much to the sadness and outrage of Tigatron, and he would have secluded himself from the other Maximals further if not for Airazor's concern. {{storylink|The Trigger, Part 2}}

Soon after, the Predacons beat Tigatron to another stasis pod, reprogramming it and unleashing [[Inferno (BW)|Inferno]]. Airazor and Tigatron took turns helping each other, but once again, Tigatron insisted that he work alone. Airazor commented that sometimes you can be too alone. She was right, because after he tracked down [[Tarantulas]] and destroyed the stasis pod, Tigatron got shot up a lot. During a Predacon attack on the ''[[Axalon (BW)|Axalon]]'', Airazor saved Optimus from plunging to his doom, but was herself so badly damaged she had to spend several days in the [[CR chamber]]. After the realization that the aliens who seeded their planet with traps and energon were returning to destroy it, the Maximals and Predacons entered a truce. Optimus Primal used Airazor to try to sneak [[Rattrap]] into the Predacon base to find out what [[Megatron (BW)|Megatron]] was up to, but Megatron, of course, found them on his scanners and politely asked them to leave. Unbeknownst to Megatron, the ploy was a decoy for Tigatron's infiltration. {{storylink|Before the Storm}}

The aliens arrived and a new alien structure was built, trapping Airazor, who was tortured. Optimus Primal forced his way inside, with the help of the Predacons, and traded himself to the aliens for Airazor. Rattrap dragged her from the structure, only for them to find themselves at gunpoint — the truce was over. The pair were able to use the activation of the structure's "termination sequence" to deal with the Predacons, before fleeing with the escaping Optimus. {{storylink|Other Voices, Part 1}} As one of the planet's moons was revealed as an [[Planet Buster|alien weapon]], the Maximals retreated to their base. There, Airazor and Rattrap caught [[Blackarachnia (BW)|Blackarachnia]] working on a stasis pod in the ship's hold, and Optimus was able to use it to destroy the Planet Buster, though at the cost of his own life. {{storylink|Other Voices, Part 2}}

Airazor and Tigatron escaped [[Transmetal]]ization by the [[quantum surge]]. They attempted to stop Blackarachnia escaping, but were both knocked offline by Megatron. {{storylink|Aftermath}} After repairs, the duo left together to find the rest of the missing stasis pods scattered across the planet. {{storylink|Coming of the Fuzors (Part 1)}} While on their search, the two Maximals discovered not only a remarkably beautiful valley, but a strange plant. As the two looked into each other's eyes and held hands in quiet celebration, the plant transformed into another [[Vok]] device, and as they clasped hands, declaring their love to exist beyond the throes of death, the two were absorbed and shot into space. Cheetor arrived, but was too late, and loudly protested the loss of two of his best friends. {{storylink|Other Visits (Part 1)}}

Airazor and Tigatron were kept in a form of stasis until near the end of the [[Beast Wars (event)|Beast Wars]], when they were merged together into the powerful being [[Tigerhawk]]. Tigerhawk returned to Earth as the emissary of the Vok to stop the deterioration that the Beast Wars were causing to the timestream, his first act being to destroy the [[Darksyde]], sending the Predacons scrambling. [[Tarantulas]] managed to capture Tigerhawk and removed the Vok's influence from his frame (and absorbed it into himself), letting Airazor and Tigatron's [[Spark|sparks]] inhabit Tigerhawk's body. Tigatron's voice was dominant, but Tigerhawk's personality and mannerisms were an amalgam of Tigatron and Airazor's. {{storylink|Other Victories}}

Shortly afterward, however, Tigerhawk was killed in a standoff with the ''[[Nemesis (G1)|Nemesis]]'' after Megatron retrieved it from the ocean floor. {{storylink|Nemesis Part 2}}

Somewhere near the end of the first year of the Beast Wars, before the Planet Buster ignited the planet's energon, Airazor, Rhinox, and Cheetor overheard a battle between [[Fractyl]] and [[Packrat]]. Airazor ended up having to rescue Cheetor, who had darted off ahead of them and gotten blasted. After the battle was resolved, she and the other Maximals fled, pretending to be beaten by the timid Fractyl to increase his standing in Megatron's eyes. {{storylink|Ground Zero}}

After the Beast Wars were over, [[Tarantulas]], presumed destroyed, existed in a new, undead form that was fueled by his new Vok powers. The remaining Vok assembled warriors to end this threat, creating [[Primal Prime]] and giving new [[Transmetal]] bodies to the extant Sparks of Airazor and Tigatron.

After awakening a stranded stasis pod containing [[Ramulus]], opening a second pod triggered an ambush by [[Spittor (BW)|Spittor]], [[Iguanus (BW)|Iguanus]], [[Razorclaw (BW)|Razorclaw]], and a reborn Transmetal 2 [[Ravage (G1)|Ravage]]. Airazor immediately saved Tigatron's life, knocking Spittor aside before Tigatron would have unwittingly come in contact with Spittor's body, covered entirely in [[cyber venom]]. This maneuver left her vulnerable to Ravage's gunfire, which knocked her out of the air.

The battle ended catastrophically, and Ramulus, Airazor, and Tigatron were forced to carry a critically-wounded Primal Prime back to the [[Ark (G1)|Ark]] after Tarantulas ripped the [[Matrix of Leadership]] from his chest. As Airazor and Tigatron conferred with the seemingly absent Vok, Airazor experienced great pains due to her battle wounds. But before she could explain, the Ark was under attack by Ravage and the Predacons. {{storylink|Primeval Dawn}}

Following the [[Quantum surge]], Airazor, who is a girl, became a [[Transmetal]]. However, she was separated from the rest of the [[Maximal|Maximals]] and was locked outside of their base during [[Quickstrike (BW)|Quickstrike]]'s counterattack. As she flew in, [[Sentinel (BW)|Sentinel]]'s defenses began to fire at her. [[Rhinox (BW)|Rhinox]] attempted to shut Sentinel down, only to be stopped by [[Rattrap]], who warned him that Sentinel was the only thing protecting them from Quickstrike's army of [[Cobra Soldier|Cobra Soldiers]] and [[Scorpion Soldier|Scorpion Soldiers]]. Rhinox brushed him aside and shut Sentinel down, anyway. Airazor, who had been shot by Sentinel, swooped in for a crash-landing. Rattrap, feeling somewhat guilty, dove to soften her landing. Not long after this, [[Blackarachnia (BW)|Blackarachnia]] breached their defenses and took out both Rattrap and Airazor without effort. Rhinox saved her some time and appeared to shoot himself in the head. Feeling her job was done, Blackarachnia left as Quickstrike destroyed their base.

From a small section of the base that had been protected by a forcefield, Airazor aided Rattap and Rhinox in pulling [[Optimus Primal]]'s [[spark]] from [[Transwarp space]]. As Rhinox brought his spark out from oblivion, Rattrap funneled it through a ray device while Airazor positioned a reflective dish. Primal's spark bounced off the dish and connected with his body (which was being held by [[Megatron (BW)|Megatron]] at his base, the ''[[Hindenburg]]''), resurrecting him as a Transmetal. Airazor, still injured from before, began to plummet to the ground. Primal rescued her, destroyed Megatron's drone army, and carried her off on his flying surfboard. Later, Airazor's spark became separated from her body, with her body becoming host to a malevolent force. The evil Airazor did battle with Tigatron, who did not want to fight the robot he loved. With no other option, Tigatron gave the evil Airazor one of his katana and knelt down. As the evil Airazor struck him with the sword, the '''real''' Airazor's spark entered Tigatron's body. In cyberspace, the two embraced and vowed never to be apart again. As their sparks merged, they became [[Tigerhawk]].

They requested the change early enough that the toy's packaging bio could have its pronouns changed to female (thank god). The later Transmetal version of Airazor was the first American-released Transformer mold created to represent a female character.

* In the Japanese dub of ''Beast Wars'', Airazor was turned into a boy as a means to (hopefully) increase toy-sales. For the TV series, his relationship with Tigatron was played off somewhat differently to avoid complaints of homosexuality. Tigatron was presented as a samurai retainer with protective feelings towards his young ward; their closeness addressed in a "brotherly" sort of way. Despite that, there was still enough innuendo left-over for the gender-bending to become unsettling. The Japanese script's near-relentless "jokey" tone didn't help. And there was simply no way for the dub team to get past the sequence in "Other Visits (Part 1)" when Airazor and Tigatron stare into each others' eyes while holding hands and slowly leaning in for a kiss, so in that instance the dub team had male Airazor fully "come out" and begin to express his affection for Tigatron just before the two of them were abducted by the Vok. Japanese magazine editors, responding to letters from confused young fans, gently explained that "some people are just like that".

* In the case of the [[Beast Wars Metals (manga)|''Beast Wars Metals'' manga]], however, Airazor's female gender was retained, as was her romantic relationship with Tigatron. This was due to the fact that Airazor's [[Transmetal]] toy had an indisputably feminine build.
