Skywarp isn't like most of the other Decepticons. He cares not for power, conquest, or battle. Knowledge is the one goal he has in his life. Others can fight the war themselves, as he is far more comfortable in the solitude of the workspace provided by Megatron. For the generous gift of peace and near unlimited time to research, he develops countless experimental weapons and tools for the Decepticons. Although a scientist, Skywarp is far from unarmed, and is equipped with many weapons that are both insanely powerful and nearly impossible to describe.
Many years ago, Skywarp was a member of Cybertron's defense forces under the command of Protector Megatron. When a mysterious relic was uncovered, aliens from the Eshems Nebula attacked, leveling much of the city of Metrotitan. Skywarp was among the forces deployed to defend their home. Defiance issue 1 Following this outrageous attack on their sovereignty, Megatron used this to declare a military dictatorship and led the flight-capable soldiers in a bloody counterattack on the aliens. Defiance issue 2

Skywarp then joined Starscream and the other Decepticons to capture Optimus. When Optimus Prime thwarted Megatron's plans to capture him, Megatron declared them traitors and civil war erupted across Cybertron. Skywarp joined Megatron's Decepticon faction. Defiance issue 3
Skywarp had been captured by NEST in some unknown conflict, but escaped their jail in South Africa when Bludgeon staged his great escape. Skywarp joined his breakaway Decepticon paramilitary. Transformers Comic issue 2.13

His first task was to supervise the reconstruction of the critically damaged Devastator. The job was going well at a remote site in the mountains of British Columbia, hidden from sight by an artificial cloud bank, until the Autobot Stratosphere stumbled across Skywarp's crew while on a routine patrol. When the Autobot Hotshot made a frontal attack on the construction site, Skywarp easily dodged his shots and easily took him down with a single well-placed kick. While standing over him to deliver a kill shot, however, Skywarp miscalculated something important and was clobbered by one of Statosphere's wings when the Autobot rolled himself over. With Skywarp dazed for a moment, Stratosphere was able to radio in a request for an air-strike to NEST, but Skywarp deemed them more lambs to the slaughter, touting his aerial superiority as he transformed to jet mode and came swooping back around for an attack. Stratosphere opted for a craftier tactic and turned the device generating the cloud bank around, blinding Skywarp with a faceful of vapor and causing him to crash. The NEST air-strike arrived soon after, and it was unclear if Skywarp was able to get away before the blast swept across the area. Transformers Comic issue 2.14
An unkown amount of time later, Skywarp was sent to meet the Autobot Blazemaster and invite the hot-headed psycho to join the Decepticons, proving himself to be quite the chatty chappy. Despite the Autobot's refusal, Skywarp told him to just live with the fact that he had all the credentials to be a murderous villain. Transformers Comic issue 2.16

: Skywarp is a Walmart exclusive redeco of Thundercracker, who was a retool of the original Voyager-class Starscream toy with a new head. Cast in black and purple plastic homaging the Generation 1 Skywarp, he transforms into a Lockheed-Martin F-22 Raptor fighter jet. As with Starscream, this vehicle mode is ridiculously inaccurate. Pushing the fighter along a smooth surface causes the barrels of his gigantic spring-loaded Gatling missile launchers to rotate and fire their projectiles, which can also be stored in the black flip-up braces on the launchers.

:During transformation, pushing up upon the canopy fuselage piece activates Skywarp's Automorphing gimmick which pushes certain panels, wings and stabilizers out of the torso. In robot mode, his projectile missiles are sculpted to vaguely resemble fingers, should users choose keep them loaded while Skywarp is in robot mode.

:The original mold of this toy was also used to make Revenge of the Fallen Ramjet.

During the Great War, the Transformer civilization was split in half on their homeworld of Cybertron as many chose to either side with the Autobots or the Decepticons. Those that did not choose a side had little hope of surviving as carnage engulfed the world in a conflict the likes of which had never been previously seen. It was during this time that the members that made up the Circle of Light gathered in order to contemplate the future. They considered themselves to be the guardians of Cybertron's ancient culture. They preached against the creation of factions and its members believed that the Great War was the result of overwhelming corruption in their nation which led to the civil war. Many that came to the Circle of Light were scholars and scientists though there were some who were simply fleeing for their lives as they did not want to take part in an ideological battle. Thus, they decided to abandon their homeworld during the fighting and headed off into space in order to find a place where they could live in peace. Initially, they managed to settle but as the war expanded to other worlds and systems; the Cybertronians that made up the Circle of Light decided that they needed to find a new hiding spot. Ultimately, they found one on a distant world where they hid their civilization underground and away from prying eyes.

Thus, they rescued thousands in an attempt at preserving what they believed was the true Cybertronian way of life. Underground, they built a great city where they lived a utopian lifestyle with no sickness, poverty or a government that left its citizens lost within the cracks of society. To ensure their survival, a set of laws were formed where the Circle did not involve themselves in the affairs of outsiders or even allowed foreigners to enter the city. This was part of a single minded objective of their own survival and the preservation of the lifestyle they had managed to forge in hiding. One of the members of the Circle of Light called Wing managed to save the life of the Decepticon warrior Deadlock who he brought to the underground city. There, Dai Atlas was displeased by Wing's actions as he believed the Decepticon could potentially be a corruptive presence for their society or worse, bring more of his kind to their settlement. This led to the burden of responsibility of watching over Deadlock being placed on Wing in order to ensure that their society did not collapse due to his actions. Drift issue 2

Unfortunately, their society was quickly threatened when the Decepticon Lockdown and a band of alien slavers tracked Drift to the planet. Noticing that Drift had recently been rebuilt, they were instantly suspicious of what company Drift had been keeping on this planet, and they demanded Drift's benefactors be traded for his freedom. Drift returned to the Circle of Light and told them of his dilemma, but swore that he would not betray his new home. Despite this, Dai Atlas was reasonably outraged, and swore off battle even in the face of his civilization's extinction. But Dai Atlas was alone in his fear of war, and the rest of the Circle of Light pledged their allegiance to Drift's plan. Since Lockdown and the slavers did not know the Circle of Light's true number, a decoy spaceship was constructed to make it appear that a few stragglers had recently crash-landed on the planet, protecting the location of Crystal City. Drift, who was rebuilt completely to match his newfound peers, joined Wing, Axe, and a handful of sworded warriors who were willing to face Lockdown and the slavers to protect their way of life. Drift issue 3

Sure enough, the two groups met in ferocious battle, and the casualties were quickly mounting up on both sides. Tragically, Wing met his death at the hand of the slaver, Braid, an event which shook both Drift and Dai Atlas to their cores. While Drift attempted revenge (badly), Dai Atlas reconsidered his previous stance on war. Refusing to let any more of his friends die on his behalf, he rose Crystal City to the surface of the planet and unleashed the rest of its inhabitants on their intruders. Lockdown and the slavers were rapidly overwhelmed, and the survivors fled.

Drift was offered to join them, but he refused, reminding Dai Atlas of his promise to the late Wing to return the slaves they'd freed. Still, Dai Atlas passed Wing's Great Sword on to Drift. Dai Atlas had changed his perspective on the Circle of Light, and realized that their civilization was best shared rather than hidden, and he promised a new age of evangelism. Drift issue 4
