'''Autobot City''' (also known as '''Autobot City: Earth''') is a city established on [[Earth]] in some [[Generation 1]] continuities. As well as being outfitted so that a large number of Autobots can live and work in comfort, the city can transform into a fortress as shields engage and weapons appear all over it. The transformation needs to be triggered by a series of bulky manual operations.

It first appeared in [[The Transformers: The Movie|''The Transformers: The Movie'']]. Generally, it is linked to [[Metroplex (G1)|Metroplex]] in some way. A few pieces of fiction use the two names interchangeably.

Autobot City is nearly always being portrayed as under the command of [[Ultra Magnus (G1)|Ultra Magnus]]

By the year 2001, the [[Autobot|Autobots']] presence on Earth was sufficiently established that they began construction of their own high-tech, Transformer-scale city in North America. This work was carried out while the balance of the Autobot forces were engaged in an evacuation operation from the Decepticon-controlled [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]]. The building site was also the location of a not-so-secret bunker where [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]] stashed the [[Autobot Matrix of Leadership]] on the off-chance he should be captured or killed by the Decepticons during the exodus from Cybertron. {{Storylink|Madman Transformers Comic}}

The city was completed sometime before the year 2005 and took major damage during a [[Battle of Autobot City|Decepticon attack in the same year]]. The city was repairable, though, and continued to operate for some time afterwards. {{Storylink|The Transformers: The Movie}}

The internal computer was [[Teletraan II]].

Metroplex transformed into a section of the city, being able to detach himself and become mobile when needed. The series usually showed white city-features for Metroplex's parts and gold for parts of the main city.

Even the toys that are definitely "real" ''Classics'' toys only have the word on one panel of their packaging as a prefix to their [[size class]] ("Classic Deluxe" or "Classic Voyager").

==Uncertain Future?==

Though response to the figures was very positive, the ''Classics'' [[franchise]] was created as a limited line to fill the shelves between ''Cybertron'' and the movie. With the [[Movie (franchise)|Movie]] toyline and the ''[[Transformers Animated]]'' series scheduled to follow it, the fate of the ''Classics'' line was uncertain.

The [[BotCon 2007]] exclusives capitalized on the popularity as the ''Classics'' universe, but even that was not to be the end of things. Hasbro revealed at Botcon 2007 that a new incarnation of [[Universe (franchise)|''Transformers Universe'']] was in the works for Fall 2008 and would operate as a blanket line for their non-Animated product, including a new line glossed as Classics 2.0.

'''Henkei! Henkei! Transformers''' is the name of the Japanese version of the ''Classics'' toyline. Like the ''[[Beast Wars Returns]]'' toyline before it, this line will feature several [[redeco]]es of existing figures to make them look more like the original [[character model]]s than their American counterparts. For example, Megatron is silver and black instead of [[neon]] green and gray, Starscream and Grimlock will be colored closer to their show models, Convoy/Prime and Bumble/Bumblebee have less white paint, and Astrotrain has a more [[show-accuracy|show-inspired]] deco of dark gray and purple instead of white and violet. In addition to these tweaks, every toy has various areas cast in chrome, seemingly for no other reason than to create a line-wide commonality.

Unlike the U.S. version of this line, the Henkei line comes with a mini-manga featuring Convoy, Bumble, Grimlock, Megatron, and Starscream. This short story starts off in the 21st Century with Megatron attacking Tokyo, planning to steal its energy and enslave the humans. Then the Cybertrons arrive to stop the Destrons, saying that thanks to they humans' information lines, the Cybertrons will always find the Destrons and stop them. Starscream is taken out by Bumble and Grimlock, while Megatron fights Convoy. The Destrons then retreat and the humans thank the Cybertrons. But the battle has only begun...

Originally referred to as Classics 2.0 during the Hasbro preview panel, Hasbro announced bringing back ''Classics'' as part of a new [[Universe (2008 franchise)|Universe line]], because of high fan support and to pick up the torch of realistic Earth vehicle designs from the ending Movie line. Hasbro said they were focusing primarily on characters who had realistic Earth alt-modes, were not represented in other current lines, and had high repaint potential. Concept art of [[Sunstreaker (G1)|Sunstreaker]] and [[Sideswipe (G1)|Sideswipe]] was shown (same base mold with different heads and alternate chest transformations and weapons).
