Cybertron is the home planet of the Transformers and (usually) the body of their creator, Primus.

It has a number of moons (at least three). It began its existence circling a binary star in Alpha Centauri, but, in many continuities, has left that orbit.

Generation 1
Marvel comics
Here, Cybertron was the adopted form of Primus. This origin of the planet states that Primus trapped himself and Unicron in barren asteriods which they then shaped into their physical forms. In this continuity it does not seem that Primus designed his body to transform as it can in some others, but rather simply to be homeworld to his creations.

Cybertron in this continuity is roughly Saturn-sized, as stated in the first issue. There are a number of difficulties with this, although we could chalk up all the improbabilities to Primus, who is a god after all, and can choose to ignore the laws of physics if he wants to.

Significant locations
Cybertron is organized into city-states, the largest and most important being Iacon City. Others include Helix, Polyhex, Kalis, Kaon, Tarn, and Vos.

Beneath the sewers the Demons in the Darkness are locked away.

At the center of this Cybertron there is a room with a Huge head of Primus on the wall where he sleeps and is watched over by the Keeper. Somewhere within the deeps of Cybertron can also be found a chamber containing the Last Autobot.

Animated continuity
As presented in the Generation 1 animated series, Cybertron appeared considerably smaller than the planet Earth. Entirely metallic on the surface, some of the lowest levels of Cybertron consisted of rock and dirt, suggesting an organic beginning to the planet. Its gravity is light enough that humans are able to traverse the surface without any trouble, and it possesses a breathable atmosphere. Water, or at least a substance resembling it, is in evidence on the planet - lake and rivers have been shown to exist, albeit sparingly. Many levels below the surface is the energy-furnace, the Plasma Energy Chamber, and at the heart of the planet is the spherical mega-computer, Vector Sigma. Cybertron is orbited by at least two unnamed moons, but its own place in the cosmos appears unfixed - in 1984, it was clearly shown to exist outside of the Milky Way galaxy; however, nine million years prior, Starscream and Skyfire had been able to fly from the planet to Earth under their own power, suggesting that it may drift freely through space, and had been passing through the Sol System at that point, going on to drift out of the galaxy over the ensuing millennia.

If the assorted colourful exclamations made by numerous Transformers are anything to go by, Cybertron also plays host to a vast array of fauna, including but not limited to: ant-droids, bolt-bats, cyber-ducks, dynametal ducks, electro-toads, glitch-mice, guineapigatrons, helio-hamsters, hydro-weasels, photovoltaic pussycats, retro-rats, robo-rats, sheepacrons, titanium moose-bots, turbo-foxes, zap-mice and robotopossums.

In its earliest recorded days, twelve million years ago, Cybertron was a factory used by the multi-faced aliens the Quintessons to manufacture their robot creations. Notably, the origins of the planet are never explicitly stated - the Quintessons may have built it, xenoformed an organic world, or colonised an existing metal planet. Whatever the case, after a million years, the Quintessons were forced to abandon Cybertron when their robots evolved true sentience and feelings, and knew they were being used as slaves, rebelling in the First Cybertonian War. The second war was soon to come, however, when the robots splintered into two factions - the peace-loving Autobots and the war-mongering Decepticons - and began fighting amongst themselves. With the Autobots' innovation of transformation, they were able to win - or at least stalemate - the war, and a period of peace descended on Cybertron, which shone with a healthy golden glow, distinguishing the period as the "Golden Age."

Eventually, however, Decepticons adopted transformation as well, along with robot-mode flight powers, and around nine million years ago, the creation of the Decepticon Megatron re-ignited the war on Cybertron. Megatron rallied like-minded individuals to his cause, and brainwashed others into his service, quickly killing the current Autobot leader in a strke on one of Iacon's outer cities. With this act kept out of the public knowledge, rumours circulated as Autobot machinesmith Alpha Trion worked dilligently on a new process to reconstruct Autobots into battle-hardy configurations for the war he knew was coming. That war finally erupted in full when Megatron fatally injured a naive young dock worker, Orion Pax, and Alpha Trion made him the first subject of his new process, reconstructing him into Optimus Prime, who would lead the Autobots in the Third Cybertronian War.

After a further five million years of war, during which many Autobots fled the planet, the Decepticons had acquired a large hold on the planet, with the majority of it under their control. The main Autobot force continued to operate from the capital city-state of Iacon, but Cybertron's energy levels were depleted to a dangerous low, necessitating a space mission to locate a new planet with new sources of energy that the Transformers could harness. Optimus Prime led his best and brightest on The Ark, but they were pursued by Megatron's elite troops, and all were stranded in stasis on Earth for four million years.

In the ensuing four million years, Shockwave, who Megatron had left in charge as guardian of the planet, maintained the Decepticon hold on the planet, though he was unaware of the continued guerilla efforts of Elita One's Female Autobots to undermine him as they raided his energy supplies. Eventually, Cybertron's energy level dipped so low as to put the planet in immediate, mortal danger. Re-establishing contact with Megatron, who had awoken with the other Transformers on Earth in the year 1984, Shockwave co-designed the Space Bridge, an intergalactic transport system that could transport Energon Cubes from Earth to Cybertron, abating the planet's impending doom.

Cybertron's place in the universe was forcibly altered in 1984 when the Decepticons constructed a colossal Space Bridge that actually transported the entire planet into the Sol system, into Earth's orbit, where its gravity wreaked havoc with the planet's natural balance, unleashing an unending torrent of energy created by natural disasters. The energy acquired re-energised Cybertron enough to put it out of the danger zone, but the planet was soon knocked out of orbit by a massive Energon explosion, and set drifting off through the solar system. At this closer ranger, Cybertron remained easily accessed throughout 1985 at least, with the Autobots now able to reach it by conventional transportation (Omega Supreme), rather than having to constantly hijack use of the spacebridge.

By the Earth year 2005, Cybertron had exited the Sol system, but, remaining within the Milky Way, was still relatively easily accessible by shuttlecraft from Earth. By this time, the Decepticon forces had succeeded in conquering the entire planet, forcing all the Autobots off it, leading them to relocate to Autobot City on Earth, and to two staging ground bases on two of Cybertron's moons. It was at this time that Cybertron came under attack from the world-eater, Unicron, who consumed the two moonbases and assaulted Cybertron itself, only to be destroyed by the power of the Autobot Matrix of Leadership. His deactivated, decapitated head fell into orbit around Cybertron, a grisly new satellite to replace those he had destroyed. With the Decepticon forces in disarray after Unicron's attack, Rodimus Prime and his troops succeeded in driving their foes off Cybertron, reclaiming the planet for the Autobots, restoring and re-energising much of the planet by 2006, when the world came under frequent attacks from the returning Quintessons, whose previously-secret history with the Transformers came to light.

In the year 2007, Cybertron was once again wrenched from its place in space when Galvatron and the Decepticons invaded the planet and constructed a massive planetary engine that propelled Cybertron back into Earth orbit once more. Once there, Galvatron opened the Plasma Energy Chamber, intending for the energy release to drive the Sun supernova, consuming Earth, Cybertron and everything else in one final destructive blow. Spike Witwicky and the Autobots' Nebulan allies were able to stop this plan by reversing the rocket engine, which drained off the excess solar energy and channeled it straight into Vector Sigma, which used it to full re-energise Cybertron. Its rich golden hue restored, Cybertron entered a new Golden Age.

Japanese continuity
While the American Transformers series was concluded with the three-part miniseries, "The Rebirth", depicting the 2007 events noted above, in Japan it was opted to continue the series, and so "The Rebirth" was disregarded in favour of producing Transformers: The Headmasters, a full-length 35-episode series set in the year 2011.

In 2011, it was discovered that the release of the energy of the Matrix by Optimus Prime to cure the Hate Plague had much more far-reaching consequences that anyone suspected. With the Matrix's energy depleted, Vector Sigma's balance - permanently tilted in favour of the Autobots by the existence of the Matrix - was reset to neutrality, allowing the Decepticons, bolstered by their new Headmaster troops, to freely invade Cybertron (known as Seibertron in Japan). Eventually, this forced Optimus Prime to sacrifice his life by merging with Vector Sigma in order to stabilise the computer before it destroyed Cybertron from within.

Not long thereafter, Vector Sigma developed a new metal alloy dubbed Cybertonuron, which enticed Galvatron into another raid on the planet. However, the Decepticon Headmaster leader, Zarak, feared the power that Galvatron would gain from the alloy, and so, to prevent either him or the Autobots from obtaining it, arranged for his Headmasters to plant bombs at the core of the planet, within Vector Sigma's chamber. The Autobots were unable to stop the countdown and the bombs detonating, tearing Cybertron apart and leaving it a charred uninhabitable ruin drifting in space.

The Cybertron Federation apparently worked together to rebuild Cybertron during the period of peace between Generation 1 and Generation 2

Dreamwave
The only continuity in which Cybertron has been mapped to some extent. A map of one hemisphere of the planet appears in the DK Transformers Ultimate Guide.

Devil's Due
IDW
The Transformers homeworld is located around Shaula which can be seen from earth as the second brightest object in the constellation Scorpius, located in its tail.

Some time ago, the constant fighting and the stripping of Cybertron's natural resources by both Autobot and Decepticon to feed their age-long war led to a terrible cataclysm that rendered Cybertron uninhabitable. As of the present day, it is a dead planet.

With no atmosphere, Cybertron's surface is unprotected from cosmic radiation and is wracked by plasma storms. Transformers must divert energy to their personal shielding in order to remain on the surface for short periods; the surface is presumably immediately lethal for humans. The Transformer race has abandoned the planet (save for occasional scientific surveys from orbit) and is now conducting its conflict across the galaxy.

Landing on Cybertron is forbidden.
Beast Era
Beast Wars/Beast Machines
Beast Machines Cybertron

Little is directly known about Beast Wars era Cybertron, aside from what can be inferred from Generation 1.
It IS in orbit around a star which it shares with several other unnamed planets. It has several moons, one with big gashes in its surface.

300 years after the signing of the Pax Cybertronia, the Maximals dominate Cybertron. The Maximal city of Cybertropolis had been build over the ruins of Iacon. Six Lasers Over Cybertron is an amusement park found there in this era. Among the examples of cultural refinement are some joints where the servers go around without their torso plates on.

Beast Machines returned to Cybertron, and likewise described it as once a natural world, hosting organic life (including gigantic bat and eagle-like creatures). Some of that life was apparently sentient since the Oracle computer foretold the coming of robots to the planet. What exactly happened to this world remains a mystery, though it could also be theorized that the Quintessons terraformed and converted the planet to the entirely robotic/metallic city-world we know. The only remains of organic life were a few remnants of plant life far, far below, and a strange green organic ooze buried deep beneath the rocky core of the world that had the ability to enhance the life force of any living thing and super-charge organic growth.

The presence of fossilised animal remains and bones deep in the planet's interior has not yet been given an official explanation. It remains a mystery as to how Nightscream was able to not only copy a bat's anatomy, but also extract DNA unless of course it was coincidence that such a similar lifeform could have existed on Cybertron in an organic state millenia before. However, the chances of finding intact DNA after such a length of time makes this suggestion highly improbable.

At the end of Beast Machines the planet was transformed into a new Technorganic state. Wonder what Primus thought of that?

Universe
Takes place in part on the post-Beast Machines technorganic Cybertron.

Unicron Trilogy
Animated continuity
In the Unicron Trilogy's animated continuity, Cybertron is revealed to be the body of Primus. Much like the versions of Cybertron before it, it is a metallic planet that is damaged by conflict. Cybertron existed in an unnamed system until the Energon series, where it was pulled from orbit and pushed into another part of space (or universe) that Alpha Quintesson had created.

In Energon, Cybertron was equipped with a system of Energon Towers that could surround the planet with a protective field, which has since been disabled due to Decepticon attack.

Cybertron had at least one known moon in the Armada series, but this moon turned out to be Unicron. It is unknown whether it was always Unicron's depowered body, or if the moon somehow became a new "host" body for him.

Through the ages, Cybertron has had many repairs, causing new "layers" to be added to the surface of the planet. Deep within the core is a pool of Super Energon that was once guarded by the four ancient combiners, Constructicon Maximus, and Bruticus Maximus, Superion Maximus, and his unnamed brother.

At the end of the Energon series, Cybertron was granted a new sun when Primus trapped Unicron's spark within a ball of Super Energon, igniting it. This sun would eventually collapse, becoming the Unicron Singularity.

It is unknown how large Cybertron is in this continuity, but it is most likely the size of Earth or smaller. Cybertron has an atmosphere, but it was unbreathable by Earth life forms as when Rad, Carlos and Alexis visited the planet in 2010, they required spacesuits to operate on the surface; by 2020, however, humans were capable of surviving without specialised suits, indicating that an oxygen/nitrogen-based atmosphere may have somehow been generated by the planet or created by Transformers or humans artificially.

In the Cybertron series, much of the planet had been repaired, including the construction of a "Sky Dome" headquarters where important meetings are held. This structure housed the artifacts that were used to mount the Omega Lock, which unlocks the robot form of Cybertron.

Transformers (2007) movie
Cybertron was a world where mechanical creatures were brought to life by a device known as the All Spark. The origins of the All Spark were lost to the mysteries of time. On Cybertron, the Cybertronians were a peaceful people, led by Optimus Prime and Lord Megatron. The two brothers created a balance; Prime was fair while Megatron was firm.

However, Megatron had a desire for conquest, while Prime believed in protecting weaker races. Megatron raised an army, the Decepticons, and sought to take the All Spark to conquer the universe. Prime raised his own army, the Autobots, and in the war that followed, Cybertron was decimated. Prime eventually sent the All Spark through a wormhole into deep space, and Megatron pursued it. Both were lost. Without the All Spark's power, Cybertron became a dead world. The Autobots and the Decepticons scattered across the galaxy, hoping to either create a new world or locate the All Spark and restore Cybertron. Transformers (2007)
Trivia
*The name "Cybertron" was used by Marvel Comics long before the Transformers series came about. In issue 48 of the original X-Men title (released in September 1968), a computer named Computro created a race of robots named the "Cybertrons".
*Cybertron's "gashed" moon often glimpsed during the course of Beast Machines is heavily based on one side of a modern sculpture by Arnaldo Pomodoro, "Sphere within Sphere" ("Sfera con Sfera"), that can be found in the Vatican City's Courtyard of the Pinecone.
Red Alert is paranoid, which is not a bad trait in a security officer if it's kept in check by reason, logic, and common sense. Red Alert is...not always so good with those other traits. The other Autobots appreciate his good intentions and eye for detail, but his ratio of false alarms to real emergencies is not always the greatest, and it makes them less likely to take him seriously when a threat is real. Inferno does his best to keep his good buddy Red out of trouble.
Fiction
Marvel Comics continuity
Generation 1
Aside from a possible cameo on the cover of US #41, and his profile appearing in the Transformers Universe series, Red Alert didn't appear in the American Marvel series.

He did manage a small, disjointed run of appearances in the British comic, however, emerging out of nowhere in The Enemy Within! to thump the rampaging Brawn. He then disappeared for 180 issues, before appearing with Rodimus Prime's future Autobots in Time Wars. The character then showed up intermittently for the 'future' UK stories, but never really did much.

Generation 2
Grimlock planned a raid on Jhiaxus' ship Twilight against Optimus Prime's orders. Unfortunately, Jhiaxus was expecting this move and had Grimlock's troops surrounded. Against type, Red Alert attacked Jhiaxus anyhow, and was blown to pieces. Red Alert's death hinted to Grimlock that this may have been a bad idea.

Animated continuity
:Voice actor: Michael Chain (US), Yoku Shioya (Japan)

The Autobots were testing the powerful Negavator superweapon they had built in cooperation with the United States Military when the Decepticons attacked, intent on stealing the weapon. Optimus Prime ordered Red Alert and Inferno to stay inside and guard the bunker as the rest of the Autobots took the fight to the Decepticons. Inferno chafed to fight the Decepticons and left Red on his own despite the latter's pleas for him to stay. During the battle, Decepticon attacks caused the bunker to catch fire and become damaged (much to Grapple's dismay), knocking Red Alert on the head and burying him under rubble. Realizing what happened, Inferno and the other Autobots returned to rescue Red. Unfortunately, the blow to his head damaged Red's logic circuits, making him more paranoid than usual, and caused him to flee the other Autobots in fear that they would take him apart and use him for spare parts. He also became thoroughly convinced that his pal Inferno was after his job and he so he escaped the Autobots. Red Alert's damage was such that if he was left untreated, his circuits would eventually explode, and so the Autobots immediately left to find him.

Meanwhile, Starscream (who had once again fallen out of favour with Megatron) used Red's paranoia to his own advantage by pretending to form a partnership with the Autobot, feeding to his paranoid state, encouraging him to steal the Negavator and use it to destroy both the Autobots and Decepticons. With Red Alert's knowledge, the pair infiltrate the bunker and steal the Negavator, just in time for Megatron to seize the weapon and for Starscream to reveal his true cowardly ways. Fortunately, Inferno saved Red Alert from himself and his Decepticon 'allies'. Auto Berserk

Transformers: The Headmasters
Red Alert did make one appearance in the first episode of the Japanese exclusive Headmasters series.

The character also featured in the Transformers 2010 title sequence, despite not appearing in any of the episodes themselves.

Dreamwave comics continuity
Red Alert's presence in the Dreamwave comics was a twisted one. When civil war broke out on the planet Cybertron between the Autobots and Decepticons, Red Alert joined the Autobot cause, acting as an advisor to Optimus Prime when he became the new Autobot leader.

In the comic arc "Prime Directive", Red Alert was shown as one of the Autobots peiced back together after Starscream, Thundercracker, and Skywarp had a dandy of a time pulling the minibots apart. Shortly afterwards, in "War And Peace", he was shown retroactively as one of Cybertron's High Council, and had evidently worked there for some time, as evidenced in flashback images in the series.

Red Alert was one of the tutors training the Mini-Bots after Shockwave was defeated. He was last seen amongst those Autobots who worked on the construction of the new Autobot City.
* Red Alert (Autobot Car, 1985, 2001/2002/2003)
: Japanese ID number: 05

: Transforming into a Lamborghini Countach Fire Chief's car, Red Alert's toy is a redeco of the Diaclone "New Countach LP500S Police Car", which was a retool that added roof lights to the original Diaclone "New Countach LP500S", which was the mold used to make Sideswipe. Red Alert's alt mode is a perfect disguise, since many Fire Departments have Lamborghinis as auxiliary vehicles.

: Red Alert saw the first of many reissues in early 2001. As part of Takara's "Collector's Edition" series of reissues that saw several pairs of "mold-mates" released together in limited numbers, Alert and Lambor were available as "Set A" at World Character Convention 12 For 2002, Alert was again released with Lambor, this time as "New Year Special" editions available through Takara's e-Hobby online shop. Hasbro reissued Red by himself as part of Commemorative Series IV, available at US Toys "R" Us stores in 2003.

: Red Alert's mold was also used to make Clamp Down, who was an homage to the mold's original police deco. Sans roof lights, the Lamborghini mold was also used for Deep Cover, Tigertrack, and Generation 2 Sideswipe.

Smallest Transforming Transformers
: Once again a remold of a Sideswipe, Smallest Transformers Alert was part of the second wave of the line. Like all of the Smallest Transformers, Alert was a tiny, simplified version of his original appearance, with limited articulation and non-rolling wheels.

Binaltech Asterisk
* Alert Meets Ai (Autobot, 2005)
:Japanese ID number: BTA-01

: The first release in the Asterisk sub-line of Binaltech, Alert is a retool of the Binaltech Streak mold as a Subaru WRX STi Japanese Police vehicle, a scheme that many fans expected for a Binaltech/Alternators Prowl. Although not a Fire Department vehicle this time, the toy's robot mode did feature many red highlights, including a red head, but as the headsculpt was unchanged, he still looked like Streak. BTA Alert was packaged with the PVC human figurine Ai Kuruma, a poilcewoman based on Robots in Disguise T-AI.

: It should be noted that Alert's release had problems with parts-fitting in vehicle mode, possibly a sign that the Subaru WRX tooling was showing its age. The later release of this mold as Ricochet in the Alternators line, though, does not have these problems.

Trivia
* The original storyboards for The Transformers: The Movie depict a death scene for Red Alert which was not included in the finished film. Red meets his end as he is shot in the back by Skywarp after helping Ultra Magnus, Tracks and Sideswipe attack Devastator. Once again, a conspiracy tries to cover up his death.

* Voice actor Michael Chain has stated that he based his characterization of Red Alert on former U.S. President Richard Nixon, a man so incredibly paranoid that he kept secret audio recordings of himself.

* Red Alert appeared in one of five original Generation 1 public service announcements. After nearly mowing down a pair of kids on bikes, Red Alert scolded them and told them to never ride at night without reflectors. However, Red Alert was shown driving at night without his headlights on, so that probably didn't help. Also, he only swerved at the last second... almost like he was aiming for them.

* In the Dreamwave Generation 1 comics, when showing the panel through the eyes of many Cybertronians, Autobot and Decepticon alike, twisted text along the side of the shot, oftentimes reversed or flipped around, would read "The More Than Meets The Eye Transformer Red Alert". While other messages were often used, sometimes as Easter Eggs, this was the most popular.

* The color schemes for Universe Inferno and Prowl are clearly based on Red Alert's G1 look.

* The Acura RSX Alternators Prowl toy was original supposed to be Red Alert, as backed up by a placeholder listing found at Hasbro's website and a Takara color guide for the toy that used a control drawing which sports a head sculpt based on G1 Red Alert (but colored as Prowl). Eventually, however, it was decided to release the toy as Prowl instead.
During the second season of the Generation 1 cartoon, a series of public service announcements (or "PSA"s) were produced starring characters from the Transformers. These PSAs were almost exact duplicates of versions done featuring characters from [[G.I. Each PSA ended with one of the troubled kids spouting "Now I know!" The featured Transformer would then follow it up with the infamous catch-phrase, "And knowing is half the battle!"

There were a total of 5 PSAs produced, each with a different lesson to be learned.

Cheetor was on the mark when he said that Rhinox was the best of them. He is a Renaissance Bot. Intelligent, massive, strong, and stalwart, there are few Maximals one could depend on more. Rhinox is of a rare breed -- he's incredibly tech savvy, but mystically-inclined... without coming off as a burnt-out technohippie. He's quick and decisive in a crisis, with spectacular results, but is slow and steady. He loves to sniff the flowers. A behind-the-scenes charismatic and an on-his-feet strategist, he could lead the Maximals if he wanted to, but he doesn't.

If he sounds too good to be true, it's because he just might be. At times he can be borderline obsessive and single-minded. The Maximals are glad he's on their side, because if he ever had a change of heart, woe be to them. No, woe be to the galaxy.

Still, you can't help but love a bot who can fight Megatron to a standstill without breaking a sweat yet would rather take a nap in a patch of daisies. Rhinox considers Rattrap to be his best friend, though he also has a close friendship with Optimus Primal. He appears to have some "older sibling/parental" emotions toward Airazor due to his role in bringing her online.

Rhinox's only weapons - besides his rather intimidating strength - are his twin chainguns, affectionately named "Chainguns of Doom."

Rhinox's core was an integral part of the evil Vehicon General Tankor.

Rhinox was a crewmember of the exploration ship Axalon when captain Optimus Primal got word that the Predacon criminal Megatron had stolen the Golden Disk and a ship with transwarp capabilities. The Axalon was the closest vessel that also possessed a transwarp drive, so Rhinox's ship was sent to engage them. After following the Predacons through a transwarp portal and appearing above a mysterious planet, both ships were damaged in the ensuing space battle, and before both ships crashed into the planet's surface below, the stasis pods carrying the rest of Rhinox's crew were ejected into orbit.

The planet was rich with energon -- so much so that prolonged exposure would short out their bodies, so the Maximals and Predacons were forced to take organic forms from the local creatures. Rhinox took the form of a rhinoceros.

When Optimus Primal was dematerialized and absorbed by a mysterious alien probe, Rhinox was forced to juryrig a gizmo to extract Optimus' molecular structure from the probe and reconstruct it. Whether or not this device would actually have worked is unknown, as shortly before he had a chance to use it, Rhinox blasted Waspinator with his chainguns (beginning the running gag of Waspinator being scrapped in every episode), and the wounded Predacon somehow accidentally triggered the Standing Stones construct, which then rematerialized Optimus on its own.

Rhinox later developed Sentinel, a hi-tech security system for the Axalon, which unfortunately went berserk when its control panel was damaged in a struggle between Dinobot and Rattrap. Rattrap however, was able to infiltrate the now-heavily guarded ship and deactivate Sentinel, which was then repaired and made fully-functional by Rhinox.A Better Mousetrap

Sometime later, when the Maximals found themselves cornered by a Predacon ambush, Rhinox was able to take out their attackers with a carefully aimed spray of chaingun fire. Megatron was so impressed that he decided to make Rhinox a member of his merry band of thieves, by force. Rhinox was captured by Tarantulas and then reprogrammed into a Predacon by a device designed by Megatron called a "Transmuter". However, the newly malevolent Rhinox proved to be too much for Megatron to handle, as Optimus Primal had correctly predicted. He quickly dispatched most of the Predacons, working his way up to Megs himself in an attempted coup. Rhinox very nearly succeeded, but fortunately, Megatron was able to revert him back into a Maximal using the Transmuter, and Rhinox escaped to rejoin his Maximal comrades and smell some flowers.

Later, a stasis pod crash landed in a barren wasteland. Rhinox intercepted it and, with Cheetor's help, managed to save the protoform Maximal's spark. The protoform then became Airazor, who repaid the favor by saving the weakened Rhinox from Terrorsaur.

When Scorponok tested an experimental bomb on a group of Maximals, rendering them blind, it was Rhinox who led the group on the dangerous trek back to the Axalon, teaching them how to use their other senses. Of course, they succeeded, and afterwards, Rhinox again went off to smell some flowers.

Later, Tarantulas infected Rhinox with an energon discharge virus, which made him expel his energon reserves via his nasal passages in bursts powerful enough to tear through the hull of the Axalon, threatening both to destroy the Maximals' base and completely drain Rhinox of energy. Rattrap and Dinobot were dispatched to acquire a countervirus, while Rhinox ate some wild bean vines to keep his strength up. When the bickering duo nearly failed in their mission, the other Maximals, including Rhinox, showed up, and the rhinoceros blew away the Predacons with a massive... energon discharge caused by his ingestion of wild beans. Megatron would remember this moment as the most humiliating defeat in his entire career. Rhinox was later cured by the countervirus via a Cybertronic beer hat.

During the Planet Buster crisis, Rhinox was heavily damaged by Tarantulas and Blackarachnia when they infiltrated the Axalon, forcing him to spend the remainder of the crisis in a CR chamber, thereby preventing him from being upgrade into a Transmetal by the quantum surge. Once Rhinox was fully repaired, he initiated a dangerous plan to bring the recently-deceased Optimus Primal back to life by using the hole in space-time caused by the destruction of the Planet Buster to astrally project his spark into the Matrix, where he followed the transion left by Primal's spark and led it back to the land of the living, where it was reborn as Transmetal Optimus Primal.

When Blackarachnia's attempts to become a Transmetal caused her shell program to deteriorate, threatening to erase her core consciousness, Rhinox carried out a very delicate procedure to surgically remove the shell program directly. Unfortunately, certain failsafes installed by Tarantulas, combined with a Predacon attack, caused the operation to fail. Fortunately, Blackarachnia was mysteriously resurrected anyway by the Transmetal driver.

After Megatron raised the Nemesis, Rhinox was ordered by Optimus Primal to execute Operation: Eternity, which apparently only Primal and he knew about. The purpose of the operation was to "move the Ark" by activating its engines and taking off; little is know beyond that, because the Maximals failed when the Ark's engines proved beyond repair. However, Dinobot 2 downloaded emergency data to the Ark about an Autobot shuttle hidden within the Ark. Rhinox piloted the shuttle and flew it directly into the bridge of the Nemesis, taking down Megatron and causing the warship to spiral out of control and crash somewhere beyond the horizon. Thus, the Beast Wars were won. Rhinox and the other Maximals left prehistoric Earth aboard the aforementioned Autobot shuttle and began the voyage home to Cybertron.
After Tankor's death, Rhinox' spark and consciousness were cleansed and rejoined the Matrix. When Megatron was defeated by Nightscream, Rhinox saw an opportunity to redeem the fallen tyrant, and attempted to act as a spirit guide. Rhinox led Megatron through the ascending layers of Transformer afterlife (which is actually a tree!), urging him to leave behind his fixation on worldly power. Megatron was briefly tempted, but his repeated returns to Cybertron (in Spark of Darkness) convinced him that godhood was still within his reach. Tapping into the power of the Oracle, Megatron erases Rhinox' spark, killing him utterly.
: Japanese ID number: C-7

: Rhinox transforms into a tan rhinoceros. In robot mode, his primary weapon is a spinning blade-gun/double mace-thing/lawn edge trimmer, though the television series liberally interpreted this weapon as a sort of gatling gun (the aforementioned "Chaingun of Doom"). His tail also detaches to become a blade.

: The two panels mounted either side of his head close together to form his 'mutant' battle mask.

: The Takara release of Rhinox added a thick layer of gray paint to the beast-mode parts that faded to reveal the original tan towards the lower body. Why is uncertain, as this made him even less like his show coloration.

: For the Transmetals line of Beast Wars toys, Rhinox now transforms into a robotic rhinoceros. The rhino mode has fold-down skis in the front legs, and tank treads in the rear legs so he can become a kind of snow mobile. In robot mode, he loses his projectile weapon, armed with only his blade, now formed out of his beast mode horn.

: In the Hasbro line, early releases of the toy had a much paler aqua-colored chrome than later versions. Such chrome differences were seemingly common among the Transmetals, but the pale/rich-chrome Rhinoxes seem to be the most common and most likely intentional change.

: The Takara release of Transmetal Rhinox has gold chrome instead of the aqua-blue, and replaces the "RHINOX" tampograph with "CYBERTRON" and the Maximal faction sigil.

: This mold was used to make Armada Rhinox.
* Beast Wars (Fast food premium, 1998)

: Available only as part of a Hasbro-brand-names fast food promotion (which included miniature versions of other Hasbro properties like Mr. Potato Head), and labeled simply as "Beast Wars", this toy is an extremely simplified version of the Transmetal Rhinox toy, available only at participating Rally's and Checkers resturants, fortunately.

: Despite it being... well, look at it... it goes for mad money on the secondary market. Most people didn't realize the promotion even existed until after it was over, and the resturant chain seems to be small and somewhat regional.

* Rhinox (Deluxe, 1999)

: Part of the first wave of "Fox Kids" redecoes , and exclusive to Toys "R" Us stores, this toy uses the original Rhinox mold in pale green and burgundy. Hasbro documents listed this toy as "Energon Surge Rhinox", a name that never made it to the final package.

* Rhinox (Deluxe Transmetal, 2000)

: Part of the last year of mass-retail Beast Wars product (sold concurrently with the early releases of Beast Machines), the Transmetal mold also got a "Fox Kids" redeco in mainly blue and gray... an interesting color choice, given that it's the show-colors of Tankor, who Rhinox would become.

: For the 10th Anniversary of Beast Wars, Hasbro redecoed the original 1996 Rhinox toy in more show-accurate colours, giving him a darker beast mode colour scheme, and painted gold details on his robot mode head, to more closely match the CGI model. They also tampographed a Maximal sigil on his beast mode's right foreleg.
