Men in Black Productions, headed by Dennis Barger, was the company that organized 1996.

MiB quickly became infamous for its (mis)management of the con, with gaffes such as a very late-opening dealer room, no lanyards for attendees, and a rather pitiful "party" to celebrate the 10th anniversary of The Transformers: The Movie.

TransCon '97
Needless to say, Men in Black was not brought back to participate in 1997 and in fact never planned on doing so. However, MiB did go on to organize and promote the unofficial TransCon '97 in Chicago, Illinois. Their fledgeling convention was heavily promoted on the back of the '96 program as well as at the convention itself. Onyx Primal was again offered to attendees, due to the fact that they had a significant number of unsold Onyx Primal toys left over from BotCon '96. Hasbro was not present as they felt it was better for their image to support a single convention and BotCon (which was a scant two weeks later) was their choice.

A pair of exclusive figures, an 'albino' redeco of Beast Wars Alligator Megatron, and a redeco of Terrorsaur as Swoop were advertised, but never made available.

TransCon 2½
While not really a convention, Dennis rented a hotel room for the weekend of 2000 and put a sign on their door that read "TransCon 2½". Naturally, this meant lots of Onyx Primals, overpriced toys, and free (stale) pretzels and water. He also had an entire case of Beast Wars Metals Ravage that were not for sale. Instead, he was willing to exchange one of these for both Shokaract and Apelinq since 3H had forever banned him from BotCon due to his mishandling of 1996,a string of online negative comments directed at them, and culminating with Dennis revealing the identities of both BotCon exclusives on ATT a week before the convention. According to Dennis's own statements, he was unaware that he had been banned until a friend and fellow dealer tried to register him as a helper. Saturday morning, a MiB representative stood outside the line for the BotCon 2000 Dealer's Room and tossed leftover TransCon shirts on the heads of unsuspecting fans.

TransCon III
TransCon III, which was held in Toledo, Ohio ("Keepin' it affordable and in the Midwest") in September 1998, was the MiB's final Transformers-related convention. It shared billing with MicroCon, a MicroMan/Micronauts convention, and MegoCon, which celebrated the Mego dolls from the 1970's and 1980's. The dealer room was largely empty, and the MicroMan &amp; Mego portions of the show were little more than nice displays of personal collections. In their internet ads, they claimed their exclusive would be "the largest transformable toy exclusive" yet. Instead, there were more Onyx Primal toys that had gone unsold from their previous two conventions. Originally, they announced that signed copies of The Agenda (Part III) script would be given to all attendees. However, after Larry DiTillio posted that he would not make the script for Dark Glass available, MiB shifted gears and sought to release this instead. Three days later, they announced that signed copies of "Dark Glass" would be offered. Needless to say, that didn't happen.

TransCon III was so named, according to Question #1 in the FAQ, because MiB considered BotCon 1996 as "the First Transcon" and this was their third Transformers convention. This would retroactively rename BotCon 1996 as TransCon I. At least in their view.

BotCon 2005: Changing Gears was the Official Transformers Convention in 2005, run by Fun Publications. It was held in the Dallas, Texas suburb of Frisco, from September 21st to September 25th, though only the last two days were open to the general public.

The convention was the first to be run by Fun Publications, and thus inaugurated a number of changes. The return of the "BotCon" name, an end-of-the-summer date, larger exclusive sets and higher preregistration costs all marked a break with previous conventions. The scope of the convention expanded as well, with pre-convention tours, special access dealer room "previews" for higher-paying attendees, and an onslaught of activities and panels throughout the weekend. Another new element was having several panels run two times, rather than being one-time-only events.
TOCclear

Venue
Botcon 2005 was held in Frisco's brand-spanking-new (it had opened only a month prior) Embassy Suites Dallas-Frisco Hotel and Conference Center. Though posh and accommodating, this center is not located within easy walking distance of anything. Many fans resorted to a quarter mile hike across empty fields and vast parking lots to reach a nearby shopping mall for food.

On the plus side, however, the Embassy Suites featured a free breakfast buffet (including made-to-order omelettes) where fans could mingle in the hotel's open atrium and save some cash on food.

The center is conveniently close to Dick's Sporting Goods, which may be reached via the Gaylord Parkway, just off Parkwood Avenue. Yeah, somebody didn't think this through very well

Merchandise
Compared to previous conventions, BotCon 2005 featured vast quantities of exclusive merchandise. Fun Publications also ran their own sales booth, offering a wide range of standard retail Transformer toys.

Convention-exclusive toys
:*Ironhide - Red and grey redeco of Energon Tow-Line with a new head sculpt.

:*Chromia - White and green redeco of Energon Arcee with a new head sculpt. Chromia was one of the female Autobots from the Generation 1 cartoon series. However, many fans have pointed out that Chromia's color scheme, headsculpt, and personality profile all resemble Moonracer's, a different character entirely. According to convention representatives, they could not secure the Moonracer name, so they simply dubbed the character Chromia instead.

*Attendee-Only Bonus Toy - Flamewar - Black redeco of Energon Arcee, given free to pre-registered attendees. Flamewar does not have the new headsculpt found on Chromia and Flareup.
Wednesday
8:30pm: Check-in for Thursday tour

Thursday
* 7:30am: Tour: Fort Worth - Where the West Begins. This tour began a FunPub tradition of locally-themed pre-convention tours of the various cities where BotCon occurs each year.
* 6-10pm: Check In/Registration Pick-Up, divided into two shifts.
* 10:00pm: MSTF presentation
* 9:00am: So You Wonder how We Do the Voices? - Dobson Brothers panel
*10:00am: Transformers Rarities - Rik Alvarez panel
:This panel heavily focused on chromed and / or clear variants of the G1 Commemorative Series figures, with the host adamantly insisting that they were all legitimately marketed (if not actually released) TF product and that the popular fan term "lunchtime special" was inaccurate. These assertions aside, and the legitimacy of these variants also aside, at that time they were all quite well-known to the fandom and not newsworthy at all. Puzzlingly, the panel gave relatively short-shrift to the world premiere revelations of a handful of TF concepts and prototypes that had never been seen or even reported on previously, such as: Toxitron, Universe Motormaster (a redeco of Machine Wars Optimus Prime), a redeco of Ultra Jetstorm, and an entirely different mold and transformation scheme for Megabolt Megatron.
*11:00am: Hasbro/Takara Working Together panel
*Noon: The Transformers Return to Comic Books - IDW panel. Contest area closes for judging.
*1:00pm: You can be the next: Transformers Idol! prelims, with Wally Burr and Pete Sinclair. Courtesy Room opens (see Notes).
*2:00pm: Sales Room opens for "Private Preview". This is if you spent a whole lotta money. Voice Actor autograph sessions begin.
*Hourly door prizes begin.
*4:00pm: Contest entries open for viewing. Second round of Voice Actor autographs.
*5:00pm: Everything closes. EVERYTHING.
*7:00pm: Casino Night Charity Event
*10:00pm: Casino Night Charity Auction

Saturday
* 7:30am: Walk-up Late Check-In/Registration; Dealer Room setup
* 8:30am: Dealer Room opens for Private Preview. Again, this takes money.
* 9:00am: "Early Bird" admission. More money! Hourly door prize giveaways resume. Finals for the You Can Be the Next: Transformers Idol! begin.
* 10:00am: Dealer room opens to the general public, who can come in to view its sad, picked-over corpse now that the fans have had their way with it. Hasbro New Product Unveiling panel begins. Voice actor autograph sessions begin.
* 11:00am: Costume contest
* Noon: The Transformers Return to Comics - IDW panel (repeat).
* 1:00pm: Transformers G1 Voices - Michael and Wally
* 2:00pm: Transformers Club Roundtable - Brian Savage
* 5:00pm: EVERYTHING CLOSES. GET OUT.
* 7:00pm: Awards Dinner and "evening program"

Sunday
*9:00am: Dealer set-up
*9:30am: Dealer room opens to all
*10:00am: So You Wonder how We Do the Voices? - Dobson Brothers panel (repeat)
*11:00am: The Making of the TF Animated Movie - Paul Hitchens (repeat); first autograph sessions begin
* 12:00pm: Designing Transformers - Hasbro Team panel
* 2:00pm: Transformers G1 Voices - Michael and Wally (repeat)
* 3:00pm: Drawing to win 2 trips to the 2006 convention.
* 3:30pm: All exhibits and dealer room close. Hearts are crushed. Now what is there to live for?

Hasbro displays of upcoming toys focused on mid- to late-run Cybertron toys, most notably Primus and Metroplex.

A nearly life-sized Optimus Prime statue greeted guests as they entered the dealer room. A jungle diorama displayed the convention toys in a re-enactment of the "Descent into Evil" comic.

Notes
* BotCon '05 occurred in the weeks following the disastrous arrival of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans. Given that, many fans were somewhat anxious to find that Hurricane Rita was bearing down on the Texas coast shortly before the convention began. The hurricane's remnants turned east upon landing, however, and the Metroplex got nothing more than a few clouds and a stiff breeze.
* The Courtesy Room was a consuite (a first for BotCon) where fans could sit and watch various Transformers shows as well as munch on some free snacks. Nachos, chips, salsa, apple cobbler, and soda were available.

OTFCC 2004 was the Official Transformers Collectors Convention in 2004, run by 3H Enterprises.
TOCclear

Venue
It was held in the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in the Chicago suburb of Rosemont, IL, July 31 through August 1.

Merchandise
Exclusive merchandise included a Dreamwave Productions "20th Anniversary Mega-Litho" poster, a Palisades Toys 6" Ultra Magnus Statue, and a Devil's Due Publishing's GI Joe vs Transformers Volume II Preview Edition. (At least that's what my convention souvenir booklet thing says. Anyone actually see/remember this stuff?)

Convention-exclusive toys
:*Universe Megazarak - A purple, light blue, red, and black repaint of Armada Megatron with no electronics and one of the pins in the hinge of the capture-mini-cons-thing on his leg missing. Surprisingly, nobody seemed to complain too terribly much about the lack of electronics, which is odd.

:*Universe Sentinel Maximus - A blue and red repaint of Armada Overload. This toy was never actually made in time for the show, only to arrive through the mail to pre-registrants months later, sent by Hasbro after 3H's collapse. Some who pre-ordered it ended up never receiving this toy at all due to outdated mailing lists.

:*A pair of Skyblast's Energon Spears (as well as Energon Stars) cast in blue ('Alpha') and purple ('Omega') plastic were given away at the Hasbro booth after completing a survey.

Fiction
The Convention Guide had a five-page teaser story, "Shell Game", featuring the exclusive toy character Megazarak. Written by Simon Furman, with art by Andrew Froedge, colors by Joe Givens, and letters by Simon Bowland, it was notable for Ultra Trion and his nifty, dashing cape.

Multiple 3H comics were also first sold at this convention:

* The Director's Cut of Wreckers #2, with all-new coloring and additional character bios.
* Wreckers #3
* Universe #2
* Universe #3

A live-action voice actor play was performed Saturday night.
The highlight of the weekend was DEATH BY CHOCOLATE. It was originally billed as a Transformers-themed murder-mystery dinner complete with Nightbeat art, but whether due to sluggish approval by Hasbro or copyright problems, the Transformers theme was dropped and it became a standard murder-mystery dinner based around a bunch of people named after brands of candy. We had lots of fun filling out the forms and playing with the pencils there on the group W bench there; then Bob Budiansky showed up and everybody got lithographs signed by Peter Cullen and Frank Welker.

While not really a convention, Dennis rented a hotel room for the weekend of 2000 and put a sign on their door that read "TransCon 2 1/2".
"Dark Glass" was an unproduced episode planned for Beast Wars third season, written by Christy Marx. It was replaced by "Go with the Flow".

Episode outline
On 1999-February-17, Transformers fan Joona I Palaste posted to alt.toys.transformers a brief summary of the plot which had been related to him by Larry DiTillio:

:Rattrap salvages a computer bank from the Axalon and in it's circuits he and Rhinox find the Core consciousness of the old DinoBot (which as you will recall DinoBot downloaded in a previous episode). Rattrap gets obsessed with the idea that he can restore the old DinoBot by getting it into the new Dinobot's systems. Rhinox tells him this will probably not work, as core consciousness without a spark is only an illusion of the person to whom it belonged. And if it didn't work, it just might give the new Dinobot all the old Dinobot's datatrax on the Maximals which could give the Preds and advantage. Optimus thus forbids the attempt. But Rattrap defies this order, sneaks out and at much risk to himself, does manage to get the core consciousness in place. For a moment the old DinoBot does seem to emerge but as Rhinox warned he is only a shadow of his former self and must do everything he can to keep the new DinoBot from regaining control of his body, a weird mental struggle which would have been fun to animate. The old Dinobot knows he is doomed to lose this struggle and tries to "sacrifice" himself again by infiltrating the Preds and taking out Megatron before he can complete his master plan to destroy the AutoBots. It doesn't work and the New Dinobot regains control of his body only to be blasted by Meagtron. Rattrap comes to accept that his old pal is truly dead and realizes he cannot bring him back. However he honors his friends memory. (original post)

Details of rejection
Word that the "Dark Glass" script had been rejected reached the fan community before the third season of Beast Wars even began airing. Rumors ran rampant that the script had been rejected for being "too dark", and this account was seemingly confirmed by DiTillio in a 1998-Aug-10 post to ATT and by Marx in a 1998-Nov-16 post to a Jem mailing list.

Several months later, on the same day that Palaste posted the plot summary, Jon Hartman also posted to ATT to say that Claster, the series distributor, had rejected the episode because the story did not have enough action . This statement is in moderate conflict with the earlier statements by parties closer to the events in question, but grimness and a lack of action could certainly go hand-in-hand. Additionally, Claster at this time was a subsidiary of Hasbro, so it possible that Hartman's claims are simply a more detailed description than had been provided by DiTillio or Marx.

Many years later, however, on Madman Entertainment's 2006 Region 4 Beast Wars Season 3 DVD , the same Larry DiTillio said this:

:Q: Is it true that there was to be an episode called "Dark Glass" in season 3, but refused production by Hasbro?

:A: No, this is actually not true. "Dark Glass" was rumored as a lost episode that was to feature Rattrap attempting to restore the original Dinobot's personality to Dinobot 2, and that when the episode was refused, "Go with the Flow" was made instead. The truth is that "Dark Glass" was written for season 2 and rejected by the story editors, not Hasbro, because the script was not up to standard. The script was replaced by "Transmutate", a great episode that was a better fit for season 2."

Given that eight years had passed when he said this, it is likely that he misremembered the sequence of events. This account contradicts statements by himself and Marx, a sneak peek at the episode list for season 3 seen at 1998, and the confusion surrounding the failed distribution of the script at Transcon III (see below). Therefore, the DVD account should be taken quite skeptically.

Availability of the script
"Now if I get 1000 different E-mails saying that this script should NOT be given out because a few paranoid fans don't want their lives unravelled then I will burn it and never talk about it again and tell christy you think her work is trash and she should stop writing professionally..." Dennis Barger. ATT. August 31, 1998.

Although the episode was dropped from the schedule long before any animation or voice recording would have been done, the "Dark Glass" did have a full first-draft script written by Marx, which was then rewritten once by DiTillio, as stated in his post from 1998-August-10.

On 1998-Aug-29, just a couple weeks after DiTillio explained the rejection, toy dealer Dennis Barger of Men in Black Collectibles -- the organizers of 1996 -- posted to the thread to announce that he had acquired a copy of Marx's script from her. For his upcoming unofficial convention, Transcon III, he planned to place the original in a charity auction, and distribute reproductions to all attendees. Hearing concerns from fans, Barger later stated that he would have all recipients of the script sign non-disclosure agreements to prevent spoilers from being leaked until the third season had aired. (Transcon III was to take place in September 1998, while season three wouldn't even premiere until October.) However, as stated in Marx's Jem list post, and later summarized on ATT by Rob Powers , Barger had not obtained the proper approvals from Hasbro and/or Mainframe, and the whole affair fell apart. The script was returned to Marx. Furthermore, Mainframe decided that no scripts were ever to be released to the public again, and indeed, although scripts for seasons one and two of Beast Wars were available on Ben Yee's website, those for season three and Beast Machines were never put up.

There was a sizeable interest in the script from fans, and Dave "Zobovor" Edwards even gathered over 500 signatures to a petition for the script's release, but he never received a response and by September 1999, he threw in the towel.

Story significance
Fans have extrapolated that this episode would have explained Dinobot's re-emerged personality in the show's final episode, "Nemesis Part 2".

In that episode, Rampage, whose spark powered the Transmetal II clone of Dinobot, was killed, and his spark extinguished. At the same time, Dinobot II suddenly seemed to remember the last moments of the original Dinobot, and his behavior changed drastically; speaking of honor, he defied Megatron and essentially switched sides (before dying again).

These events are difficult to explain, perhaps especially so without "Dark Glass". The Dinobot II body was a clone of the original Dinobot, but did not (as far as is known) possess his core consciousness, memories, engrams, etc. Rather, Dinobot II seems to have been a shell program written by Megatron running on top of a fragment of Rampage's spark. In this case, it is unclear why, in the absence of Rampage's spark, Dinobot II would suddenly act more like Dinobot I. However, if the events of "Dark Glass" are taken to have occurred off-camera, it becomes easier to understand: two shell programs and a spark all fighting for dominance over a single body. With the spark gone, the Dinobot I shell may have had an opportunity to take over.

On the other hand, even with "Dark Glass", the picture is incomplete. Dinobot saw visions of the original Dinobot's last moments, his battle with the Predacons in the rift valley at the end of "Code of Hero". These memories could not have been part of the download Dinobot made into the Axalons computer earlier in the season. For them to surface within him, they must have either been added to the datatrax he was programmed with (by either Megatron or Rattrap), or they must have come from Dinobot's own spark, if that spark somehow left the Allspark and inhabited the cloned body when Rampage's spark departed. All three of these possibilities have their share of implausibility, so it is up to each fan to pick an interpretation that they like to include in their personal canon.
TransCon '97
Needless to say, Men in Black was not brought back to participate in 1997. However, MiB did go on to organize the unofficial TransCon '97 in Chicago, Illinois, at which Onyx Primal was again offered to attendees, due to the fact that they had a significant number of unsold Onyx Primal toys left over from BotCon '96.
TransCon 2 1/2
While not really a convention, Dennis rented a hotel room for the weekend of 2000 and put a sign on their door that read "TransCon 2 1/2".

Additionally, they claimed that the script for the unproduced Beast Wars episode "Dark Glass" would be offered to fans provided they signed a non-disclosure agreement to prevent spoilers for the as-yet-unaired Season Three from leaking out to the public. Although the author, Christy Marx, was OK with the idea, Mainframe and Hasbro were not. Needless to say, that didn't happen either.

TransCon III was so named, according to Question #1 in the FAQ, because MiB considered BotCon 1996 as "the First Transcon" and this was their third Transformers convention. This would retroactively rename BotCon 1996 as TransCon I. At least in their view.

Needless to say, Men in Black was not brought back to participate in 1997. However, MiB did go on to organize the unofficial TransCon '97 in Chicago, Illinois, at which Onyx Primal was again offered to attendees, due to the fact that they had a significant number of unsold Onyx Primal toys left over from BotCon '96.

TransCon 2 1/2
While not really a convention, Dennis rented a hotel room for the weekend of 2000 and put a sign on their door that read "TransCon 2 1/2".

TransCon III, which was held in Toledo, Ohio in September 1998, was the MiB's final Transformers-related convention. Still clinging to unsold pieces from the previous two MiB shows, there were more Onyx Primal toys for sale.

TransCon III was so named, according to MiB staff, because it was their third Transformers convention. This would retroactively rename BotCon 1996 as TransCon I. At least in their view.
Men in Black, who had previously created the Onyx Primal exclusive for 1996, wanted to make two exclusives for their non-licensed Transcon2 convention in 1997. Albitron and Swoop, repaints of the original Beast Wars Megatron and Terrorsaur respectively, would have been available singly as well as in a two-pack.

However, Men in Black violated their contract and solicited the toys in two full-page ads before they had gotten approval for them from Hasbro, which led Hasbro to turn down the proposal. Only one (hand-painted) mock-up of the Albitron toy is known to exist.
BotCon 2008 was the Official Transformers Convention in 2008, run by Fun Publications. It was held in Cincinnati, Ohio, from April 24 to 27.
TOCclear

Run-up
Hype for the convention began on the BotCon website on November 27, 2007, when the entire page was replaced by a giant graphic of a mysterious trio of ominous-looking Autobots, a new logo featuring a purple BotCon logo with a matching purple Autobot symbol, and a spooky video clip featuring a backwards Transformers theme. The video clip also claimed that "this spring ... at BotCon 2008 ... everything you thought you knew ... will be ... shattered." Fans soon deduced that the convention toy set would have a "mirror universe" theme of evil Autobots.

On November 28, the page was updated with the location, date, and venue.

On January 31, 2008, registration forms went up. By February 14, demand was so high that orders for Iacon packages would no longer be taken, though those that had ordered Iacon packages up to that point would receive them. On February 29, the "Shattered Glass" set was announced to be sold out for Primus packages as well. On April 4, the free Ricochet attendee figure was announced to be sold out.
Trivia
*Hasbro initally released Transformers Animated toys exclusively in the Cincinnati area about 2 weeks prior to BotCon. Of course, by the time of the convention most dealers or locals had all but cleaned the stores out.
*In honor of this year's "evil universe" theme, many fans grew beards or goatees for the occasion.
Attempting to retrieve their lost records journal, the Quintessons use subliminal messages on the Junkions, and inadvertently the entire galaxy.
Synopsis
Searching for one of their journals, the Quintessons discover that it has landed on the planet of Junk. After observing the native Junkions, the Quintessons send a Sharkticon retrieval team. The Sharkticons locate the journal quickly, but are then driven off by the Junkions. The Quintessons hijack the television broadcasts the Junkions watch, planting subliminal messages telling the Junkions that being neat is a good thing...and the other races are their enemies.

Travelling through the Junkion sector, Sky Lynx comes under attack by Astrotrain. While the two battle, the Junkions fire on both Transformers. Sky Lynx races back to Cybertron, and informs Rodimus Prime and Ultra Magnus. The Autobot leader sends the Aerialbots to investigate. Astrotrain also returns to Chaar to report his encounter, but Galvatron doesn't care. Cyclonus, however, is interested, and takes Scourge and the Sweeps to investigate. The Aerialbots arrive, and get caught in the crossfire between the Junkions and the Quintessons. The Aerialbots form Superion and target the Quintessons. However, the Quintesson ship damages Superion, who is then rescued by Sky Lynx. Cyclonus and the Sweeps arrive to investigate, and withdraw after being fired upon.

During the battle, the transmitter sending the messages to the Junkions was damaged, causing the Junkions to believe that they should transmit their broadcasts to other races. The affected races soon begin lashing out at their neighbors, causing what would become an interstellar dark age. The Quintessons see a good possibility here, as they could sell weapons to the warring races, but decide that the recovery of the journal is the higher priority. Back on Chaar, Galvatron displays anger at Cyclonus for going to investigate Junkion, but Cyclonus continues on, believing that to turn the Junkions on the Autobots is too good an opportunity for the Decepticons. Hoping to find answers, Rodimus, Magnus, Kup, and Blaster head to investigate in Omega Supreme, but come under attack by Cyclonus and the Sweeps. Omega is damaged, and the Autobots draw the Decepticons away from the wounded Guardian robot. Finally, Omega Supreme is repaired, and the Decepticons retreat.

Meanwhile, the affected races have converged on Junkion, and are firing on everyone in sight. Chaar has also been targeted, and Galvatron is drawn into the bedlam. Knowing they have one chance, the Quintessons make a move for the journal, but a stray blast from Galvatron damages their shuttle and sends the journal hurtling into the void. Arriving, Blaster determines that the transmissions are the cause of the violence, and sends out transmissions to counter them. Their senses restored, the Junkions stop fighting everyone...and start concentrating on the Decepticons, who retreat. Rodimus asks Wreck-Gar what happened, but Wreck-Gar doesn't know.

Returning to their ship, the two Quintessons prepare to accept their punishment, but their superior declares that finding the journal is now their priority...before their clients do.
:—The Autobots discuss their situation.

Notes
* When Galvatron and Rodimus face off on Junkion, Galvatron mentions the "scrapeyard". What's a scrapeyard? Pretty sure he meant scrapyard.

Animation and/or technical glitches
* A red alarm light flashes on a console and is somehow visible through a Quintesson standing in front of it.
* When Ultra Magnus is repairing Omega Supreme, one scene is missing...well...everything but Magnus' hands. He appears to be repairing empty space.
* Not so much of an animation error per se, but Omega Supreme manages to transform from his rocket ship into his full robot self. That's interesting, given that his rocket ship is the equivalent of his forearms, with no tank, legs, or tracks that all appear in robot mode.
* When Omega comes under attack, Rodimus starts asking what happened to Omega before anything actually happens.
* Omega's voice is missing its usual self-echo reverberation.
* As Ultra Magnus completes repairs to Omega, the hatch opening is drawn as though it were closed, even though the hatch itself is still open.

Transformers references
* This episode is Omega Supreme's only Season 3 appearance, and last appearance in the cartoon.

Real-world references
* The title is a takeoff of the "Big Broadcast" series of movies in the 1930s.
* The "If you can Name That Price" game show is an obvious parody of The Price is Right.

* As a Junkion-centric episode, this story is positively drowning in pop culture references. In addition to generic phrases like "this concludes our broadcast day," "it slices, it dices" and "waxy yellow build-up," specific references spewed by the various Junkions include:
** "Here's looking at you, kid." – Humphrey Bogart's famous line from Casablanca.
** "Live from New York, it's… your hit parade!" – a dual reference to Saturday Night Live and Your Hit Parade.
** "Oh, Cisco!" and "Oh, Pancho!" refer to The Cisco Kid and his sidekick, but Wreck-Gar and his lady friend use the names in a swooning, romantic way, which is... not... right.
** "Fly somebody else's friendly skies!" – a warped version of the United Airlines slogan, "Fly the Friendly Skies."
** "Your mission, should you choose to accept it…" – the famous introductory line from the Mission: Impossible TV series.
** Wreck-Gar and his little buddy assume the roles of Perry White and Jimmy Olsen from Superman, respectively, on a few occasions. First, "Jimmy" refers to Wreck-Gar as "Chief," at which point Wreck-Gar quotes Perry by shouting "And don't call me Chief!" Later, "Jimmy" refers to "Mr. Kent" and recites the classic Superman tagline, "Look, up in the sky! It's a bird! It's a plane! It's...", and Wreck-Gar quotes Perry's catchphrase, "Great Caesar's Ghost!"
** Following on from Wreck-Gar's insistence that he not be called "Chief," the "Jimmy" Junkion responds with "Sorry about that, Chief!", in the style of Maxwell Smart (Don Adams) from 1960s spy comedy, Get Smart. Wreck-Gar also later mimics Smart with a cry of "Missed me by that much!"

Trivia
*When the US comic needed a fill-in issue, this episode was chosen and script adapted. While the UK offices were in no position to pass up on any US material being produced, this issue also completely conflicted with the Movie-Future they had established. To sidestep continuity problems, Simon Furman wrote a framing sequence establishing US #43 as an imaginary story dreamed up by Wreck-Gar, as part of a lead in to his Space Pirates arc.
* The comic adaptation lends credence to the idea that the opening scenes are mis-ordered. The comic features the Sharkticons seeking the journal first, and being repulsed, then the Quintessons analyzing the Junkions and concluding that they must be subtle in their attack. In the cartoon, the analysis comes first, and is immediately followed by the Sharkticons' flagrantly un-subtle invasion.
*This episode is set before "The Quintesson Journal", because this journal is the same one that Blaster and Outback find.
* Blast Off's appearance serves absolutely no purpose. He's not shown fighting or speaking or anything.

Synopsis
The Decepticons are building engines into the side of a comet in order to alter its course and crash it on top of Metroplex. As they fire up the engines, a group of Autobots close in, led there by Perceptor. The Autobots attack, much to Galvatron's dismay. The Constructicons form Devastator, who is promptly flattened when Broadside drops on him in ship mode. In the ensuing battle, the engines are destroyed, and the comet is sent hurtling towards a small planet, which Perceptor reports is inhabited.

The Autobots attempt unsuccessfully to stop the comet before Galvatron again orders his men to engage their foe. While Galvatron and Ultra Magnus are grappling, waves of sound energy destroy the comet and cause both groups of Transformers to plummet to the planet's surface. In a nearby city, three aliens are having a disagreement. One of them, Allegra, storms out, saying that she's going to her retreat.

The Transformers recover from their crash, wondering what hit them. Soundwave describes it as the most perfect harmony ever, but Galvatron is more interested in its destructive power. Broadside breaks up the discussion by punching Galvatron, and the fight resumes. As the Constructicons form Devastator again, Perceptor blows the giant apart with one shot from his cannon. Galvatron and Soundwave depart in search of the source of the harmony they heard earlier, but Ultra Magnus spots them leaving and takes Broadside and Blaster in pursuit. Perceptor reflects that unless the trio are swift, there might not be much of them left.

Broadside swiftly passes the two Decepticons and overflies the city, which Blaster realises is laid out like a musical harmony. Magnus and Blaster meet with Basso Profundo, leader of the planet Eurythma, but Basso refuses to help them, believing that the harmony is all his people need to protect themselves. He drops a hint that Allegra might be able to help them, a fact overheard by Galvatron and Soundwave, who are spying outside. As the three Autobots go in search of Allegra, the Decepticons drop a bridge on them. To make sure, Galvatron blasts the wreckage, and the pair fly off to find Allegra.

Basso watches the two Decepticons leave, and fellow Eurythman Zebop Skandana uses a harmony to help the Autobots out of the rubble. Blaster realises that the Zebop was creating part of the harmony which originally blew the Autobots out of space, and Zebop says he's sympathetic to their cause and will help them find Allegra.

The two Decepticons meet Allegra, offering to help her overthrow Basso in return for the secret of the harmony. She obliges and Soundwave records it, but to Galvatron's rage, it turns out that she is only one part of the harmony; Basso and Zebop make up the other two thirds. Still, when the Autobots arrive with Zebop, Soundwave is testing the part of the harmony he has by destroying a rock. The Autobots set up an ambush, but Zebop is so distressed by the fact that Allegra is working with the Decepticons that he gives away their position. Galvatron starts firing, and Zebop takes refuge in Ultra Magnus's cab. Soundwave begins battering the Autobots with the harmony. When Zebop counters with his part of the harmony, Soundwave promptly records it and uses the resulting two-thirds of the harmony to devastating effect.

With the Autobots apparently gone, Galvatron terminates the alliance with Allegra. She attempts to attack them with her part of the harmony, but Soundwave retaliates, knocking her out. The Autobots climb out of their hole in time to prevent Galvatron from terminating the Eurythman, but during the resulting fight, Blaster and Soundwave struggle and accidentally fall on Zebop. Galvatron grabs his minion and departs, leaving Allegra cradling Zebop in her arms. Though the Autobots believe he's had it, Allegra uses a harmony to revive him. The Autobots leave for the city.

Back at the landing site, the rest of the Autobots and Decepticons are still fighting. Hot Spot voices his hope that Magnus, Blaster and Broadside hurry. The Eurythmans have spotted the battle, and Basso uses an amplifier to direct a destructive harmony at it. Defensor is forced to disassemble, but the two factions fight on. Basso is depressed, and his aide points out he needs Allegra and Zebop to complete the harmony. Arriving, Soundwave begins playing two-thirds of the harmony, shaking the city and provoking Basso into using the third part again, which Soundwave promptly records. He is subsequently able to use the complete harmonic weapon to attack the city. Pleased, Galvatron announces their next targets are Metroplex and then Cybertron.

Ultra Magnus's party arrives back at the city to find it devastated and their fellow Autobots badly damaged. The Eurythmans are able to repair Perceptor and the Protectobots with a harmony, and the Autobots set off for Earth.

Galvatron and Soundwave attack Metroplex with the harmony, but the Autobots soon arrive with the three Eurythmans, who nullify Soundwave's weapon with anti-sound. Blaster grabs Soundwave and uses his buttons to erase the harmony from Soundwave's tapes. Despite Galvatron raging that he hasn't ordered a retreat, the Decepticons flee anyway. The Autobots return the Eurythmans to their world, where Ultra Magnus tells them they need to learn to live in harmony.
Notes
Animation or technical glitches
"Carnage in C-Minor" is infamous among the fandom for the sheer number of animation errors in this episode. Among the more prominent are the following:

* Throughout the entire episode, Broadside is drawn with a previously discarded character model.

* Devastator is the exact same size as Soundwave during the start of the first battle.

* Devastator also appears before he forms later in the battle.

* While the Autobots are shooting at the meteor, they are so badly drawn that they appear to have only one leg each, left arms starting from the elbows, and enormous heads...and Superion is tiny.

*When Bonecrusher orders the formation of Devastator, he's wearing an Autobot insignia. See also the continuity error below.

* When the Constructicons form Devastator for the second time, the first shot shows four Constructicons forming the legs and the torso. The second shot shows three robots forming the arms and upper torso. This means that seven Constructicons formed Devastator.

* After watching Galvatron and Soundwave leave, Ultra Magnus dispatches Hook and Scrapper—by picking them up in his hands and bashing them together. Magnus is supposed to be big, but not that big.

* Blaster, Ultra Magnus and Zebop are shown hanging onto Broadside while he flies around. Sometimes, the shots make them appear tiny or not to be hanging onto Broadside at all. (One wonders why Zebop doesn't just ride in Broadside's cockpit, as he does for the trip to Earth.)

* Soundwave points out that Zebop is standing in the distance, while Galvatron says that "he probably is with the Autobots." Yet, Ultra Magnus is standing right next to him.

* Soundwave has a purple Autobot insignia...again. So does Broadside...

* Blaster is drawn delivering Broadside's line about "scorch-marks on top of everything else".

* During part of the battle at Allegra's retreat, Hot Spot is with the Autobots instead of Broadside.

* When Blaster explains that the Eurythmans use the harmony even for healing, Ultra Magnus is the one mouthing the words.

* When the Protectobots are combined as Defensor, Hot Spot (the main body) is fighting alongside his combined self!

* In one scene, a cel-layering error causes Blaster to appear very tiny compared to Soundwave.

* And there's even more. Seriously, how much time do you have?

<center><gallery>
Image:Carnage C-minor Magnus Broadside.JPG|"Hail Caesar!"<br />"Hail Thaethar."
Image:Hotspot defensor.jpg|Hey! Part of me, get back in me!
Image:CarnageMiniBlaster.jpg|It's his little shoulder-angel.
</gallery></center>

Continuity errors
* In one infamous scene, Brawn and Huffer (who should also be dead) show up alive and well. And it seems Bonecrusher has switched sides, as he's helping them shoot at the giant Decepticon rocket engine he just helped build! (Huffer has the wrong paint job, too.)

* To add insult to injury, Devastator is shooting at the Autobots before the Constructicons form Devastator.

* Soundwave travels with Galvatron to find the source of the harmony. However, when the scene returns to the battle outside the city, Soundwave is with the other Decepticons at the same time.

Real-world references
* The Eurythman characters' names are all music-related puns. Allegra and Basso Profundo are references to terms related to classical music, while Zebop Skandana is named after popular music guitarist Carlos Santana and his song Zebop. And the difference shows.

* Eurythma was possibly named after the popular '80s band The Eurythmics.

Trivia
* "Carnage in C-Minor" is widely regarded by fans as the worst episode of all Transformers series, but this is seemingly due to the sheer volume of animation errors, as well as the glaringly obvious nature of many of the individual errors. However, the actual plot is certainly not the weakest to grace the cartoon series, and its "continuity errors" have little to nothing to do with the script itself...certainly not to the level of, say, "B.O.T.".

* That said, there is plenty of inanity to be found in the story too. For instance: Despite the aliens' dialog being in perfectly understandable English (or Galactic Standard or whatever), because they say everything in a sing-song rhythm, apparently none of the Transformers except Blaster and Soundwave can understand them, and the two tape decks spend a large (and annoying) amount of time translating Eurythman to "non-sing-song" for everyone else.

* Galvatron and Soundwave are briefly seen holding hands whilst flying.

* Apparently, a single blast from Perceptor's lightning cannon can cause Devastator to disassemble. And Grimlock believes that intellectuals are weak.

* Anyone else bothered that this "sonic weapon" was used to destroy a comet IN SPACE?

* This was one of several episodes subjected to the MSTF treatment at 1999.

* In hindsight, it wasn't the best idea for Soundwave to have his erase button open so it could be pushed by a enemy. Or to have an erase button in the first place. For their sake, we hope Rumble and the other cassettes had their copy-protection tabs removed.

"Broadside! Blaster! Galvatron and Soundwave went to find the weapon that knocked us out of space!"<br>
"Weapon? That was no weapon. That was harmonic bliss! A musical kiss!"<br>
"Whatever."

"Blaster, you picking up anything?"<br>
"Yeah, yeah! Beauty like you wouldn't believe, Broadside. Sweet soul music. It's their art, their commerce, their philosophy, their whole—uh-oh, bummer. Galvatron and Soundwave are here."
:—Broadside and Blaster get their vibes harshed.

Image:Bigmagnus tinyconst.jpg|We'll take revenge by merging into Devastator.

For their sake, we hope Rumble and the other cassettes had their copy tabs removed.
Synopsis
Daniel has been having nightmares involving a giant Galvatron. Worried, Spike and Carly ask Rodimus Prime to come visit him. Rodimus manages to calm Daniel, but then has to leave. After he falls back asleep, a tentacle grabs Daniel...

Meanwhile, Rodimus, Ultra Magnus, and Springer are driving through some thick fog, when the Predacons attack the Autobots. However, both factions of Transformers are suddenly attacked by monsters, on which their weapons have no effect. It turns out that the Quintessons are using Daniel's nightmares to create chaotic monsters which will destroy the unpredictable Autobots and Decepticons.

Springer and Razorclaw are captured by a dragon and taken to a castle. While there, they meet a princess chained in a dungeon, whom Springer unbinds. She tells them of a magic lance which can kill the dragon and claims that her father will give them gold if they free her. Springer agrees to free the Princess and slay the dragon regardless of the reward, while Razorclaw acts like he's on the verge of coughing up a hairball.

Back at the battle, Rodimus, Magnus, and the Predacons are being threatened by a witch and giant. They manage to dodge a blast from the witch that turns the giant into a toad, and Magnus finds a bucket of water which destroys the witch. However, a giant snake monster appears from the ground and nearly swallows the Transformers, before a plane, piloted by a familiar face, rescues them. The Quintessons realize that Daniel's subconscious mind is assisting the Autobots, so they increase the power to suppress his help. At the castle, Springer is trying to find way out, while Razorclaw has decided to wait until the guards come. Suddenly, Springer thinks of a plan, but requires Razorclaw's help.

Elsewhere, Rodimus, Magnus, and the Predacons find an abandoned amusement park. Heading into the fun house, Rampage and Tantrum are attacked by the mirrors, while Divebomb falls down a large hole. Rodimus and Headstrong are attacked by a giant Galvatron, which is then defeated by a giant Rodimus Prime. Rodimus realizes that they are somehow in Daniel's dream. At the castle, Springer is fighting the dragon, but needs help. Razorclaw refuses to help, but the Princess reminds Razorclaw that the dragon will kill him as well. Razorclaw serves as Springer's mount, and he stabs the dragon, killing it. The castle also disappears, and a yellow brick road appears.

Meanwhile, Rodimus is calling out to Daniel. Shocked, the Quintessons set the machine on its highest level, which will kill Daniel. The dream world begins to deteriorate, but the Princess guides them through the storm. Daniel is able to draw the Quintessons in subconsciously, and the Autobots rescue him. Razorclaw wants to scrap the Autobots, but Headstrong cannot transform, preventing them from becoming Predaking. Razorclaw orders the Predacons to retreat.

Back at home, Daniel wakes up, not remembering what happened, and tells Rodimus that he took control of the dream. Rodimus tells Daniel that he won't have any more nightmares involving Galvatron or snake monsters. Daniel, confused, asks how Rodimus knew about the snakes.
Notes
Animation or technical glitches
* Rodimus Prime's optics change from blue to red and back again several times.
* When Rodimus Prime remarks the giant Rodimus fighting the giant Galvatron is like in Daniel's nightmare, his voice is enhanced to sound like the giant Rodimus.
* There's evidence to suggest this episode had a troubled production, as the finished animation is missing in-between cels in several scenes (leaving the keyframes only). Additionally, the episode under-runs to such an extent that two secret files are tagged onto the end rather than one.
* In one shot, a Quintesson's body is missing, leaving his face floating in air as he talks.

Continuity errors
* It's never explained exactly where everyone is during the episode. The opening scene at the Witwicky house implies that it's Earth, yet the ending scenes appear to be on Cybertron. It's never made clear, and it begs the question of how the Predacons are able to run around unhindered on the Autobot-controlled planet. Ditto for the Quintessons, who appear to be operating on the same planet.
* Likewise, just how the Quintessons' magical machine works is never given any explanation. If it can project a real-life version of anything at all, wouldn't it make more sense to just hook it up to one of the Quintessons and have them imagine a really big Transformer-eating Sharkticon?
* What happened to Springer's daring escape plan?

Real-world references
* The yellow brick road and the witch being defeated with a bucket of water are both references to The Wizard of Oz.

Trivia
* Apparently, the Witwicky residence can accommodate giant futuristic Winnebagos comfortably. Considering the fact that Spike's best friend is a bug, and that a truck was among the friends of the family, the house may have been built to allow the Autobots to be able to walk around inside it.
* Razorclaw appears to find gold valuable. Whether this means it has actual value among the Decepticons, or he just likes shiny things, is unknown.
* This episode is the first to use the new, more heavily synthesized Season 3 background music.
* It's a coincidence that this episode is horror themed and it aired on Halloween. Then again, the G.I. Joe episode "Nightmare Assault" also aired on the same day...so maybe not.
