Devastator

:Devastator is a Decepticon combiner from the Generation 1 continuity family.

Devastator is an immensely powerful warrior, and in that sense the combination of the Constructicons into a merged being is a huge success. Mentally, on the other hand, he's very much less than the sum of his parts. Devastator's primitive psyche is limited to only the thoughts and actions on which all his components can agree, which results in raging bouts of destructive fury. Given the sheer power Devastator brings to these rages, Megatron has no complaints.

Nominally he is composed of the six robots...
*Scrapper (Leader)
*Hook
*Bonecrusher
*Long Haul
*Mixmaster
*Scavenger

However, in at least one reality, he goes from being a six-robot combiner to a five-bot one, Hook and Mixmaster being replaced by Hightower.

The Constructicons did not initially have the power to merge into Devastator. That ability was given to them by Megatron after he warped their minds into servitude with the Robo-Smasher.

Millions of years later, in 1984, Megatron had the Constructicons built on Earth to steal high-tech electronic components for his Power chip rectifier furnace, as well as tunneling under the Ark to destroy Teletraan I. Teletraan I, sensing the imminent danger, activated the Dinobots. The Dinobots responded and started pounding on the Constructicons, opening up a lava channel in the process. The battle not going in their favor, the Constructicons pulled out one last trick and combined into the super warrior, Devastator. And then all hell broke loose.

The returning Autobots saw the battle between one giant psycho and five ticked off dinosaurs, but were unable to help (due to losing a tournament which prevented them from interfering with the Decepticons). Inside the Ark, Teletraan-I was able to show that Megatron had cheated and the Autobots rushed outside to help the Dinobots. Distracted by one of Hound’s holograms, Devastator was shot by Optimus Prime and fell apart into the lava. Heavy Metal War.

Devastator was continuously called upon during battle for many years to come. Some of his adventures include scaling the Empire State Building like King Kong City of Steel, helping Grapple and Hoist build their solar tower The Master Builders, being brainwashed by Wheeljack's dominator discs into serving the Autobots The Core and going up against the Dinobots on several occasions, most notably the battle at Autobot City (he took out Grimlock and Sludge, Slag knocked him through a wall, but before Swoop could get in, some rubble dropped on him, so essentially, they all beat themselves up). When the Decepticons later argued amongst themselves who would lead them after Megatron's "death", Scrapper stated that since the Constructicons could transform into the powerful Devastator, they should rule. They proceeded to try to form Devastator, but were shaken apart mid-transformation by Rumble and Frenzy. The Transformers: The Movie Later, the Constucticons form Devastator when fighting the Autobots on Eurhythma, but he is blasted apart into his component robots by Perceptor. Carnage in C Minor

Devastator was selected by Violen Jygar as one of his 9 Decepticon Demon-Generals. Given the rank of Technology General and gifted with a new bitchin' drill-weapon (not unlike the ones his toy had) and armor, Violen Jygar sent Devastator to the Earth to steal the Zodiac before the Autobots could get it. After destroying the World Trade Center (Not cool, man, not cool!), Devastator drilled deep within the planet, reaching the Zodiac's chamber, and went toe-to-toe with Dai Atlas. He managed to get the Zodiac first and pass it off to King Poseidon. Devastator had the upper hand in battle until Dai Atlas opened a vein of hot lava upon the Decepticon. Devastator was washed-away in the molten magma, apparently killed by it. (Although he did survive a lava dip years earlier in Heavy Metal War, so who knows?) Enter the new Supreme Commander, Dai Atlas!

Marvel comics continuity
noteukonly
The Constructicons were the first (and, as it turned out, the last) new Decepticons created by Shockwave on Earth, using the residual power of the Creation Matrix that was within his captive Optimus Prime. Their first mission was to construct a massive communications dish, allowing Soundwave to broadcast a message to long-lost Cybertron. When the dish came under attack by a squad of Autobots, the Constructions merged to form Devastator, much to the surprise of the attacking Autobots.

Devastator was powerful and tough, but slow and confused as well. Soundwave was connected to the scrambler dish and unable to defend himself; when Huffer threatened to destroy the dish, it took Devastator quite some time to figure out which Autobot Soundwave wanted him to attack ("Destroy Autobot.... which Autobot.... not these Autobots...")

When Bomber Bill cut Soundwave's connections to the dish, causing feedback which destroyed it, he ordered the Constructions to disassemble and retreat, noting that their performance as a single unit had been "notably deficient." The Next Best Thing to Being There!

Devastator subsequently went through much testing and enhancement to improve his operation and co-ordination. Both Soundwave and Ironhide noticed a much more fluid warrior. The Constructions were sent to kidnap Buster Witwicky and formed Devastator to deal with Autobot interference, but were called off when Soundwave discovered something in Buster's mind. Devastation Derby!

Devastator reappeared when Optimus Prime led an Autobot offensive on the heavily fortified Decepticon coal mining base. The defenses held the Autobots to a standstill, and Shockwave ordered the Constructicons to merge to tip the balance in their favor. But the attack was a nothing but a ruse to draw out Devastator. Bumblebee was monitoring the Constructicons' transformation pattern, and as soon as he successfully recorded it, Optimus Prime ordered a retreat. The information eventually allowed the Autobots to create their own team of combiners, the Aerialbots. Command Performances!

For some reason, the Constructicons were rendered incapable of combining at one point. Unwilling to lose Devastator's raw power, they attempted to construct a new and separate version of him in the Bahamas. Ironhide and Bumblebee wrecked the project before it could be completed. Desert Island Risks!

Dreamwave comics continuity
Devastator was the first combiner, the end result of the Constructicon's research into mass intellect. However, he suffered a huge drawback in that he would only do what his components agreed on, which was usually smash stuff. None the less, Megatron was pleased with Devastator's power, and authorized the Stunticons and Combaticons to undergo a similar process. When Megatron and Optimus Prime disappeared, the Decepticons and Autobots fractured, and signed the Crisis Intervention Accords, ruling the Special Teams non-alinged. However, Ratbat managed to convince the Constructicons to side with the Ultracons. The Constructicons formed Devastator when Ratbat tried to take the Tagan Heights. He battled Defensor, but was eventually defeated when the Protectobots forced the Constructicons to separate. The War Within: The Dark Ages

After Megatron freed the other Decepticons from Adam Rook's control, he sent Devastator down the west coast of North America. Along the way, Devastator destroyed a US Navy submarine, before arriving at his destination, San Francisco.

Devastator helped destroy the city until he was initially stopped by Superion, and finally put into stasis lock when Optimus Prime shot him point-blank in the head. His fate was left unconfirmed, but he was last seen falling to the bottom of the sea, so it is likely that he was put into terminal stasis. Prime Directive
Generation 1
*Devastator (Giftset, 1985)
: Japanese ID number: D-37

: Normally, Devastator could only be assembled by buying all six individual Constructicons with the additional large-scale weapons components that were assigned to them. However, six-robot gift sets were made available in many markets, including the US, Japan, and several European countries.

: Devastor's forearms are also spring-loaded missile launchers, able to fire his fists as well as his drill attachments. He also comes armed with a large purple laser rifle.

: Unlike the later Scramble City-style combiners, Devastator's limbs cannot be rearranged into any other configurations.

*Devastator with Scorpulator (Action Master, 1990)

: A non-transforming action figure compatible with any other Action Master vehicle or accessory, Devastator's sculpt is a combination of the original animation model and several more toy-based elements. He came with his small animal partner Scorpulator.

Generation 2
*Devastator (1993)

: During Generation 2, the Constructicons were only available as individuals, never as a giftset. The team was released in two different colors, initially in yellow, then later in bright orange. All individual members are tampographed with the G2 Decepticon symbol and the words 'Decepticon'.

:Other than colour scheme, much inferior mold and chrome application quality, and the lack of rubsigns, G2 Devastator is functionally identical to the original release.

Classics
*Constructicon Devastator (Multi-pack, 2007)

: For Classics, Devastator is a redeco of the Energon combiner Constructicon Maximus. He was available only in a full five-pack, exclusive to Wal-Mart stores.

: Since the new classics combiner contains only five robots, rather than the original's six, the Constructicon team here contains only Bonecrusher, Hightower (who may or may not be related to Hook and/or Mixmaster as his bio seems to combine attributes of both), Long Haul, Scavenger and Scrapper. Also, because of the combination method used, he can use any of the Energon-series limb-robots. Hightower and Long Haul are identical except for color (being made using the same mold), as are Bonecrusher and Scrapper.
Trivia
* Devastator's (or rather, his Diaclone counterpart's) concept design was decidedly less imposing than the final. Interestingly, it is only composed of five components, the core being a long-nosed truck cab.

*The name "Devastator" was used by Marvel Comics long before the Transformers series came about. In issue 186 of the second Incredible Hulk title (released in April 1975), a Russian supervillain named Kirov Petrovna, aka The Devastator, made his debut.

* Though a yellow version of the Constructicons were released in the European market at the tail end of Generation 1, they did not come with any of the parts to form Devastator. In fact, Scavenger and Hook had the connector parts on their actual toys removed.

* It has been rumored that the orange Generation 2 Constructions were a Kay-Bee Toys exclusive, but this is unconfirmed.

* In later years, toys sporting the name "Devastator" required an additional "Constructicon" prefix for trademark reasons, hence making the official name "Constructicon Devastator".

* Devastator makes his cameo appearance in his G2 color scheme in the game "TV: World Fighters". However, his G2 toy was never officially sold in Japan.

*A Statue of Devastator can be seen on the Stop Sector Seven Site... A Hint perhaps?

*The Dreamwave profile mentions that Devastator's merging system is outdated--a reference to its pre-Transformer status and unusual six-member system. Allegedly, this is also why Devastator is so powerful (or at least that's what Megatron believes).
The Nine Great Demon Generals (九大魔将軍 Kyū Dai Mashōgun) are a group of elite warriors gathered together by the mysterious spectral entity Violen Jygar.

The Nine Great Demon Generals are:

*Monster General Abominus (妖獣将軍 Yōjū Shōgun)
*Evil Spirit General Black Zarak (悪霊将軍 Akuryō Shōgun)
*Flame General Bruticus (火炎将軍 Kaen Shōgun)
*Engineering General Devastator (技術将軍 Gijutsu Shōgun)
*Oceanic Fish General King Poseidon (海魚将軍 Kaigyō Shōgun)
*Intelligence General Menasor (諜報将軍 Chōhō Shōgun)
*Super God General Overlord (超神将軍 Chōjin Shōgun)
*Beast General Predaking (野獣将軍 Yajū Shōgun)

Overlord appears to be their de-facto field commander. They are all equipped with "Invincible Armored Gear" (無敵の装甲ギア Muteki no Sōkō Gia). What does it do? With the appearance of the new Emperor of Destruction Violen Jygar and his Nine Great Demon Generals, the war between the Autobots and Decepticons began a new phase.

For unknown reasons, the Generals Overlord, Abominus and Menasor obliterated planet Feminia, nearly killing Victory Saber in the process. After departing, they rejoined the other Generals in an empty area of outer space, where Overlord soon welcomed Violen Jygar's arrival.

Noting the apparent destruction of Victory Saber, Violen Jygar declared his intention to take over the galaxy and create a "Destron Zone". In order to do this, he told his Generals to collect "super energy" for him by any means necessary.

To acquire the special energy Energon Z, Overlord, Abominus, Bruticus and Menasor attacked the planet Zone while the Powered Masters were away. After tearing the Energon Z capsule out from Rocket Base, they flew off into space, where General Black Zarak took care of the pursuing Microtransformers in the Galaxy Rocket. The Energon Z capsule was installed in General Trypticon, granting him a powerful new attack called the Energon Z Beam.

Generals Devastator, King Poseidon, Predaking, and Trypticon then attacked Earth, looking for the Zodiac energy. A group of Microtransformers fared badly in trying to stop them, but relief soon came in the form of Sonic Bomber and the new Supreme Commander, Dai Atlas!

The generals nearly managed to kill the two Powered Masters, but in the end Devastator appeared to die in a lava flow, King Poseidon and Trypticon were killed when Dai Atlas and Sonic Bomber transformed into their "Zone Modes" by the power of Zodiac, and Predaking's head was sliced in half. Enter the New Supreme Commander, Dai Atlas!

Notes
*The Japanese name for the Nine Great Demon Generals is Kyū Dai Mashōgun, which literally translates to "Nine Great Demonic Warriors". However, there is a pun present in there which doesn't translate into the English language. "Mashō" is the word for "devilish" or "demonic", while "shōgun" is the word for "General", hence how they are considered "generals" over "warriors".

*In Transformers Generations, Black Zarak's title is given as "Darkness General" (暗黒将軍 Ankoku Shōgun) while Menasor's title is given as "Information General" (情報将軍 Jōhō Shōgun). Just where these alternate titles originated is currently uncertain; "Evil Spirit General" and "Intelligence General" were used in both the manga and story-pages, while the Generals' titles don't seem to come up in the OVA episode.

*When last seen, Black Zarak was pretty dead. His title of "Evil Spirit General" suggests some sort of unholy resurrection, but how he came back to life is never revealed.

*A few of Magami Ban's character models for the Nine Generals which were used in the Zone manga and story pages differ considerably from the animation models used in the Zone OVA.

*Menasor as the Intelligence General is an... interesting choice, considering that he is one of the least intelligent combined robots in just about any continuity.

The Pax Cybertronia was the unilateral peace accord signed after the Autobots defeated the Decepticons in the Great War. Little is known about how it came into existence, but it is known that Optimus Prime played an incredibly significant role in making it happen.
Fiction
Beast Wars
According to the known terms, it places the Decepticons (and later their descendants the Predacons) at great disadvantage, with the Autobots (and later the Maximals) firmly in control. It kept the peace on Cybertron, while keeping much information away from the Transformers about their ancestors.

Leading up to the Beast Era, powerful factions within the Predacon Alliance such as the Tripredacus Council want to continue to build up their resources under the restrictions placed on them by the Pax Cybertronia before a new campaign of conquest. This is a major point of contention between the leadership of the Alliance and sub-factions that would prefer action today.

Trivia
*The Pax Cybertronia appears to be based on the Pax Romana.
*The reluctance of the Predacons and their subservient role in the new world is also somewhat reminiscent of a post-WWI Germany, which was forced to pay excessive reparations and was restricted in its weapons development.
:Side Burn is an Autobot from Robots in Disguise continuity.

Side Burn is an adolescent speedster and turbo-revving young punk. His brain development has yet to catch up with his ego and robo-hormones, and if he gets bored or preoccupied he'll wander away from his assignment or get in the way of someone else's without a second thought. This is particularly annoying to his law-abiding brother Prowl and the fussbudget Autobot computer known as T-AI. Even the more easygoing X-Brawn can grow tired of his antics. They're no fun anyway, and he can always outrun them. He can outrun just about everybody and everything except his own foolishness.

His greatest folly is his fixation on red cars. Transformer or not, sentient or not, he can't resist chasing after a pretty little thing of the red persuasion, proclaiming loudly and often his libidinous designs. This is usually a bad idea, and occasionally a very bad idea, like that one time the red car turned out to be Megatron in drag. Yikes. His "super" redeco was red. It's best not to think about it.

Side Burn is a good talker as well as a good racer. He can tell a real tearjerker of a story if he's in the mood. Ask Slapper about it some time.
:Japanese ID number: C-004

: Side Burn transforms into a blue hot rodded Dodge Viper with flame decos on the hood. Side Burn is essentially a shellformer, with very little of his car mode pieces being incorporated into his robot limbs.
: This mold was retooled to make Roulette and Shadow Striker. The only truly notable difference between Speedbreaker and Side Burn is the large tampographed (and distracting) Autobot emblem on Side Burn's hood. (Hasbro just doesn't seem to get the whole 'Robots In Diguise' thing, do they?)

* Super Speedbreaker/Side Burn (Deluxe, 2000/2001)
:Japanese ID number: C-026
: Fire-red repaint vaguely resembling Generation 1 Hot Rod, only difference between Super Speedbreaker and Side Burn is still the Autobot emblem.

* Super Speedbreaker (Multi-pack, 2000)
: Clear version of Super Speedbreaker, released with clear Super Wildride and Super Mach Alert

* Daytonus & Side Burn (Basic, 2001)
: Side Burn's Spychanger mold was initially planned for the Generation 2 Go-Bots sub-line before it ended. His gun can fit in his underside in car mode. Side Burn was packaged with Daytonus.

: This mold was also used to make Universe Autobot Jazz.

Universe
* Side Burn (Deluxe, 2004)

: A Wal-Mart exclusive, Universe Side Burn is the exact same toy as Super Side Burn, however black paint was added over the red on the car mode parts, and a fiberglass pattern was added to the hood, along with a giant Autobot insignia on the car roof. The gun/knife was also dechromed and was casted in silver plastic. The differences between both figures stopped there.

Trivia
*Side Burn's original Japanese name, "Speedbreaker," is a synonym for "speed bump". It's unknown if the irony was intentional.
*The alternate mode of Side Burn seems to be downgraded in horsepower, since there are eight exhaust pipes connecting to his engine block (which are clearly seen whenever he is in robot mode), indicating that his power comes from an eight cylinder engine, rather than the V-10 engine all regular Dodge Vipershave. Which is probably why he can never catch Kelly's little red sportscars.
*In the Bee In The City script-reading at Botcon 2008, "Side Burn" is one of the names that Bumblebee is mistakenly called.
