Most make the mistake of noticing only '''Arcee'''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s [[Female Transformer|gender]], but these first impressions are quickly expanded upon. Arcee is a merciless and deadly warrior who's an expert in hand-to-hand combat and one of the best sharpshooters on record. The reason for her ferocity is how much she cares for her fellow Autobots and especially the [[human]]s they protect. She knows how fragile her organic companions are, and she's equally aware of the evils the [[Decepticon]]s are capable of. Peers such as [[Hot Rod (G1)|Hot Rod]] and [[Springer (G1)|Springer]] may be more durable than the humans, but she no less fights to defend them as well. They get in plenty of trouble, so someone has to be the level-headed one. (Some believe Arcee has a [[Transformer romance|romantic]] attraction to either of those two, but that depends on who and when you ask.)

If concern for her friends is her strength, it's regrettably also her weakness. If anything would happen to, say, [[Daniel Witwicky (G1)|Daniel Witwicky]], she might just completely lose it. And she may be quick, but she's not very strong.

During the assault on [[Autobot City]] Arcee was instrumental in helping [[Springer (G1)|Springer]] transform the fortress to repel the [[Decepticon]] invaders, buying precious time for reinforcements and likely saving many lives. She was among the few Autobots to survive [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]]'s savage blitz on the city and to form the small army sent to engage the planet eater, [[Unicron]], who was threatening [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]] at the time.
Although she was nearly left behind when Unicron’s minion [[Galvatron (G1)|Galvatron]] attacked, she, along with Autobot leader [[Ultra Magnus (G1)|Ultra Magnus]], and his small attack force managed to hold their own against the villain long enough to befriend the citizens of the planet [[Junkion (planet)|Junk]], reunite with their lost Autobot comrades, and fight their way into the depths of Unicron where [[Hot Rod (G1)|Hot Rod]] was finally able to open the power of the [[Matrix of Leadership|Matrix]] and kill the giant foe.

Throughout the entire affair, one of Arcee's top priorities was the protection and care of young [[Daniel Witwicky (G1)|Daniel Witwicky]], a human friend of Hot Rod who had wound up on the adventure with her. {{Storylink|The Transformers: The Movie}}

After the Matrix chose Hot Rod to become the new leader of the Autobots, [[Rodimus Prime (G1)|Rodimus Prime]], Arcee remained as one of his closest soldiers. She helped fight a surprise attack on the first [[Galactic Olympics]]. When Ultra Magnus, [[Kup (G1)|Kup]], and [[Spike Witwicky (G1)|Spike Witwicky]] were discovered missing, she and Springer took off after the perceived kidnapper. Although they were successful in capturing their quarry, the [[Skuxxoid]], and taking his ship, he deceived them about the identity of his employer. {{storylink|Five Faces of Darkness, Part 1}} This still turned out to be beneficial as they arrived in time to save Rodimus Prime and [[Grimlock (G1)|Grimlock]] from being pummeled by a mob of Decepticons. Arcee was among the small group of Autobots that managed to stop a Quintesson plot to use the resurrected body of [[Optimus Prime (G1)/Generation 1 cartoon continuity|Optimus Prime]] as a sort of sleeper agent to lure the rest of the Autobots into a trap. {{storylink|Dark Awakening}} She was also seen among the other Autobots cheering when Unicron's plan to connect himself to Cybertron failed. {{storylink|Ghost in the Machine}}

Later she accompanied a squad sent after Galvatron and his troops who had broken into a secret chamber on Cybertron. This too would turn out to be a Quintesson trap. This time, the Decepticons were fooled into releasing the Quintessons’ dangerous experiments, the [[Trans-Organic]]s, and their most powerful member The [[Dweller]], a giant energy leech that turned all Transformers into energy vampires. After trying to fight off both Galvatron and the Dweller in the dark tunnels, only she and Ultra Magnus were able to escape and warn Rodimus Prime and [[Perceptor (G1)|Perceptor]] in time to stop the Dweller and turn the other Transformers back to normal. {{storylink|The Dweller in the Depths}}

She, along with Rodimus Prime, Ultra Magnus, and Springer became the targets of crime lord [[Victor Drath]] after busting one too many of his operations. With the help of [[Cobra Commander| Old Snake]], the four Autobots were captured. Their minds were transferred from their bodies into the forms of [[synthoid]] humans. They managed to escape disposal by Drath’s men, and Arcee eventually made it back to Autobot City in an attempt to warn their comrades that their former bodies were going to be used to blow up the city. Being an unrecognizable human, no one believed her, and she was locked in a detention cell instead. Luckily when Ultra Magnus and Springer managed to foil Drath's plan all four Autobots were subsequently returned to their rightful bodies. {{storylink|Only Human}}

The almost maternal connection between Daniel and Arcee was a powerful one, which was only strengthened some time later when Galvatron tried his most ambitious plan. Using the [[Key to the Plasma Energy Chamber|Key]] to the [[Plasma Energy Chamber]], Galvatron tried to release its destructive power. Arcee, along with Hot Rod, Kup, and a large Autobot crew, managed to snatch the key away and escaped to the far off planet of [[Nebulos]]. There, they became embroiled in the Nebulons' struggle for freedom against their own oppressors, the [[Hive (G1)|Hive]]. In an effort to combat both the Hive and the Decepticons that had tracked them down, the Autobots and the Nebulons agreed to become partners and developed the [[Headmaster (technology)|Headmaster]] and [[Targetmaster]] processes. Having been critically injured trying to save her from [[Snapdragon (G1)|Snapdragon]], Arcee chose Daniel to partner with as he now needed an [[exosuit]] to survive and was her ”dearest friend”. {{storylink|The Rebirth, Part 1}}

On [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]], following a devastating battle, [[Firestar]] and [[Moonracer]] observed their enemies retreating and presumed that things would be quiet for a while. Suddenly, they were attacked from behind by a massive [[Decepticon]]. Arcee immediately saved them by killing the villain with a single shot. Arcee reminded the two Female Autobots that war is especially tough on females. In the divergent [[universal stream]] of Primax 903.0 Beta, splintered off from the mainstream timeline when the time-tossed Decepticon [[Ravage (G1)|Ravage]] altered history, Arcee was selected to participate in the [[Timaeus Project]], an Autobot experiment to breach super-dimensional space being carried out on the urging of the mysterious [[Optimus Primal|Protector]], a disembodied spark from the future. Arcee's consciousness was transferred into a [[Binaltech]] body, and after saying goodbye to the Protector, she began her objective: driving in around an accelerator track while a chip in her cerebro-circuitry helped focus her thoughts towards breaching "superspace". Just as she succeeded in opening a rift into higher-dimensional space, however, a Decepticon attack led by [[Shockwave (G1)|Shockwave]] struck Autobot City. Fearing for the safety of the Protector and the future he represented, Arcee recklessly attempted to go to his rescue, leaping off the track without taking the proper slowdown procedures. Arcee's body was crushed by undissipated kinetic energy, but in her unconscious state, the Protector's spark contacted her, and told her that he was unimportant: it was the Timaeus Project and its researchers who had to be saved. 38 seconds later, Arcee awoke, her spark having been automatically transferred to a spare S-2000 Binaltech unit, and she fulfilled the Protector's wishes, saving the project's human workforce and the [[Alternium|strange object]] that had passed through the rift she had opened. Alas, this allowed Shockwave's agents to capture the Proctor's spark, and bring it to Decepticon leader [[Nemesis Prime (G1)|Nemesis Prime]]. {{storylink|Unfinished Business, Part 3}}

When Nemesis Prime resurfaced in Australia, the Autobots confronted him. As Ultra Magnus and the others assaulted the Decepticons directly, Arcee managed to free the Protector from the villains' clutches. After receiving an SOS signal, Arcee and the Autobots responded to aid the humans. On another occasion, Arcee and her friends were confronted with five copies of the lost Decepticon leader [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]]. In 2011, Arcee was stationed at the Autobots' secondary command post on the planet [[Athenia]] when Cybertron's mega-computer [[Vector Sigma]] began to destabilize, threatening the planet and opening it up to an attack by Decepticons and their new "Headmaster" warriors. {{storylink|Four Warriors Come out of the Sky}} She remained there with Hot Rod, Kup, Blurr and [[Spike Witwicky (G1)|Spike Witwicky]] and [[Carly]] to hold down the fort while the other Autobots joined the battle on Cybertron, and watched from afar as an object that they believed to be a star also headed for the planet. The "star" was in actuality the colossal spaceship the Maximus, carrying the Autobot Headmasters from their homeworld of planet [[Master (planet)|Master]], and with their added strength, the Autobot forces were able to rout the Decepticons. While Optimus Prime headed into Cybertron's depths to try and stabilize the computer, Arcee helped welcome the Autobot Headmasters to Athenia, and again remained on the planet with Kup and Blurr while most of the other Autobots began searching for the missing Matrix of Leadership on Earth, required to bring Vector Sigma under control. Arcee wept when news of [[Blaster (G1)|Blaster]]'s death during the quest reached Athenia. {{storylink|The Mystery of Planet Master}} Lack of any further news put Blurr on edge, and Arcee was trying to get him calm down before he drove her nuts when Autobot Headmaster commander [[Fortress Maximus (G1)|Fortress]] announced that he was going to Cybertron to try to help Optimus Prime. Arcee and the others went with him, helping to monitor Vector Sigma while he followed Prime into Cybertron's catacombs. Arcee, Kup and Blurr counselled Rodimus Prime on how to deal with the Decepticons' newest weapon, the [[Madmachine]]; Arcee put both Blurr and [[Chromedome (G1)|Chromedome]] in their place for underestimating the threat. She then watched as Fortress used the technology of Master to resurrect Blaster as Twincast. {{storylink|The Great Cassette Operation}} A little later, Arcee relayed a report from Fortress about the Decepticon conquest of planet [[Beast (planet)|Beast]] to Rodimus. {{storylink|Rebellion on Planet Beast}} Later still, she helped track the trajectory of the Decepticons' newest space-borne weapon, the meteorite [[Metamorpho]], and assured Daniel that Fortress's battleship would be able to deal with it before it posed any thread to Athenia. {{storylink|Approach of the Demon Meteorite}}

Receiving a distress call from the planet [[Praum]], Arcee conferred with Kup and Blurr on what to do, since Rodimus himself was on Earth checking up on a report of a new energy discovery. While the Autobot Headmasters went to investigate Praum, Rodimus radioed in that the energy report was a fake, prompting Arcee to re-examine the report and discover it had been given by hypnotised victim of the Decepticon Headmaster [[Mindwipe (G1)|Mindwipe]]. Realising the energy report was a distraction, Rodimus headed for Praum and saved the Autobot Headmasters from the ambush waiting for them there. {{storylink|The Four-Million-Year-Old Veil of Mystery}} Chromedome started to develop a crush on Arcee, and the other Headmasters made fun of him by comparing Arcee's looks to the [[Statue of Liberty]]'s. {{storylink|Terror! When the Decepticons launched another major attack on Cybertron in order to seize control of the new alloy [[cybertonuron]] that Vector Sigma had created, Arcee rushed to the planet to join the battle, though she and Kup were held up by having to stop and pull Blurr out of a chair he'd gotten stuck in. The trio watched as Rodimus and Galvatron battled. {{storylink|Cybertron Is in Grave Danger, Part 1}} Unfortunately, the Autobots did not reckon with Decepticon Headmaster leader [[Scorponok (G1)|Scorponok]], who used [[plasma energy]] bombs to destroy Cybertron, rather than allow Galvatron to obtain the cybertonuron. Rodimus Prime decided to leave leadership to Fortress while he departed to search space for a new homeworld for the Transformers, and Kup and Blurr volunteered to go along with him; Arcee expressed her desire to join them, but Rodimus instructed her to stay behind to look after Daniel and Wheelie. {{storylink|Cybertron Is in Grave Danger, Part 2}}

Arcee was downcast by these turns of events, but tried to encourage Wheelie and Daniel to keep their spirits up. They all attended a party to commemorate the completion of the joint Autobot-human project, the [[Solar 1]] satellite, at which Arcee slow-danced with Chromedome, surprised at his skill. {{storylink|The Shadow Emperor, Scorponok}} Arcee later helped to monitor the mysterious Decepticon-controlled planet [[Zarak (planet)|Zarak]] {{storylink|The Dormant Volcano Mysteriously Erupts}} and alerted Fortress to the appearance on Athenia of a carnivorous plant. {{storylink|Head On!! When Fortress departed Athenia to join a battle on Mars, Carly worried for the safety on Daniel, and Arcee assured her he would be fine. {{storylink|Explosion on Mars!! Maximus Is in Danger}} During the fight on Mars, Fortress was hit by a blast of energy by the Decepticons that drained all his power, and Arcee desperately tried to raise him on the communications channel. She analyzed the energy that had struck him, identifying it as plasma energy, and realized that the Decepticons planned to destroy Mars in order to generate more of it. {{storylink|Explosion on Mars!! MegaZarak Appears}} Unbelievably, the villains succeeded in the goal, and Arcee joined with Spike and [[Broadside (G1)|Broadside]] in scanning the planetary debris to assess the damage the planet's destruction had caused to the solar system. After they reported their findings to Fortress, a strange new phenomenon appeared on Athenia: Daniel and Wheelie saw a UFO! Arcee filled Fortress in on the mystery sighting, and travelled with the Autobot Headmasters to watch as Daniel tried communicating with the strange visitor via music. Chromedome was particularly honored to drive alongside Arcee, and got a thrill out of seeing her transform. {{storylink|Return of the Immortal Emperor}}

Arcee was the first to speak out in favour of offering aid to the energy-depleted planet [[Sandra]], and gathered information on the Autobots' energon stockpiles in order to verify the energy could be spared. {{storylink|SOS from Planet Sandra}} Soon after, Arcee used [[Teletraan I (G1)|Teletraan I]] to send a request from Spike to Galvatron about the unlikely possibility of the two factions uniting in a new energy research programme... and received a surprised response in the positive! Unfortunately, the negotiations proved to be a Decepticon distraction, granting the rest of the villains time to depart on an interplanetary energy-plundering quest. Once the Autobots discovered they had been duped, they set off in pursuit of their foes across space; Arcee accompanied them, helping to look after Daniel and Wheelie on the trip. {{storylink|Daniel Faces His Biggest Crisis Ever!!}}

The Autobots discovered that the Decepticons' first target was the planet [[Susei]] when they found a damaged ship and an injured soldier from the planet floating in space. Arcee did her best to save the soldier's life with the Maximus's medical equipment, but his wounds were to severe. {{storylink|Fight to the Death on Susei!!}} Next, the Decepticons went after the planet [[Twin Star|Sperity]]; Fortress instructed [[Brainstorm]] to take Arcee, Daniel and Wheelie to Sperity's barren twin [[Twin Star|Toruin]] where they could be safe until the fighting was over. However, the quartet discovered that most of Sperity's population had evacuated to a subterranean city on Toruin, and Arcee was forced to volunteer herself as a "hostage", remaining on Toruin as a show of good faith while Brainstorm went to pass this important information on to the Autobots on Sperity. {{storylink|Battle for Defense of the False Planet}}

Arcee's image was programmed into one of Daniel's video games as a hapless damsel who had to be saved from sprites of the Decepticon Headmasters. Fortunately, she didn't take any offense at this, and happily watched Daniel play the game, complimenting him on his marksmanship. Soon after, the Autobots saved the injured [[Beastformer]] [[Tekna]] from the planet Darhos, and Arcee monitored his vitals as Chromedome tried and failed to save his life. {{storylink|Find MegaZarak's Weak Spot!!}} Arcee then joined the Autobots in traveling to planet [[Paradise]], {{storylink|Head Formation of Friendship}} and [[Pirate Planet]], but just really stood around on the Maximus and didn't do much. {{storylink|Mystery of the Space Pirate Ship}} She carried on doing nothing after the Autobots returned to Athenia {{storylink|Ultra Magnus Dies!!}} and even took the time to advocate that ''others'' do nothing as well, such as when she had Spike refrain from contacting Fortress in the face of a diversionary Decepticon attack. {{storylink|The Emperor of Destruction Vanishes on an Iceberg}} She spent most of the time that immediately followed sitting at a monitor, either sending communications or overseeing Fortress's telekinetic surgery on an injured Spike. She finally got off her butt to tell a benched Chromedome that Fortress was in trouble in a battle on Earth, but fortunately, Chromedome had just deduced the location of Scorponok's weak spot and left Arcee in charge on Athenia while he headed off to pass the info on. {{storylink|I Risk My Life for Earth}}

Fortress's victory over Scorponok forced the Decepticons off of Earth, leaving the Autobots to begin clean-up operations and restore the damage done to the planet. Arcee was appointed Spike's aide in his meeting with the [[United Nations]], working to help co-ordinate the relief effort; their first endeavour was the destruction of the Decepticons' abandoned Earth headquarters. {{storylink|Miraculous Warriors, Targetmasters (Part 1)}} Despite these new duties, however, Arcee still joined with the other Autobots in travelling to the planet Master when word reached them that Scorponok had withdrawn there and was causing chaos. She put her medical knowledge to work again treating the wounds of Chromedome's old friend [[Jack (Headmasters)|Jack]]. {{storylink|Miraculous Warriors, Targetmasters (Part 2)}} She proceeded to do absolutely nothing for the entirety of the remainder of the Autobots' time on the planet, but she sure did a good job of sitting silently in a chair. {{storylink|Operation: Destroy the Decepticons}}

Arcee's massively importantly contribution to the Autobots' return flight to Earth was reminding Daniel and Wheelie to wear their seatbelts. Soon after touching down on the planet, Arcee received a report that an airliner carrying Spike and Carly had crashed in the Andes, prompting Daniel and the Headmasters to head to the rescue. {{storylink|The Final Showdown on Earth (Part 1)}} She then ''finally'' stepped back on to the battlefield for the first time in ages when she joined all the other Autobots in a climactic final battle with the Decepticons at the North Pole. She united her energies with her team-mates, funnelling them through the Headmasters' [[Head Formation]], super-charging Fortress Maximus and giving him the strength to destroy Scorponok's [[Transtector]]. This victory finally led the Decepticons to flee Earth for good, and Arcee stood stoically by Fortress and the other Headmasters as they bid Spike, Carly and Daniel goodbye, before heading into space to carry on the fight. {{storylink|The Final Showdown on Earth (Part 2)}}

Arcee was constructed by the Autobots in an alternate future 1995 as a good-will attempt to placate [[Feminist mob|angry feminists]] who thought that they were "sexist" for having no women in their group. After trying multiple times to explain that Autobots, being robots, had no gender, [[Optimus Prime (G1)/Marvel Comics continuity|Optimus Prime]] surrendered and ordered [[Wheeljack (G1)|Wheeljack]] and [[Ratchet (G1)|Ratchet]] to make a new Autobot who would meet the humans' demands for sexual equality. However, when Arcee was unveiled at a public ceremony, her pink, skinny and curvaceous form enraged the very audience Prime intended to placate. [[Shockwave (G1)|Shockwave]], [[Horri-Bull]], [[Fangry]] and [[Squeezeplay]] who immediately attacked, looking to crush the "secret weapon" that was promised. Prime warned Arcee to stay back, lest she get hurt in battle, but the female Autobot, rightfully annoyed at the Autobots' lack of faith in her equal ability, singlehandedly forced the Decepticons into a retreat. Arcee and Hot Rod became quite friendly, but with his ascension to Prime status in 2006, they began to drift apart. She was stationed at [[Autobot City]] on Earth and got bored by her duties. The [[Quintesson]]s attacked in 2008, stringing out the city's population to the wall and using a wounded Arcee as bait to attract Rodimus; when he tried to use the Matrix to heal her, they stole it and he reverted to Hot Rod. Despite her injuries, she assisted him in awakening [[Metroplex (G1)|Metroplex]] and devastating the Quintesson fleet. {{storylink|Space Pirates!}}

In 2009, Arcee tracked down [[Soundwave (G1)|Soundwave]] and the [[Terrorcon (G1)|Terrorcons]] on Earth, where they were planning to use a laser bore to leech energy right from the planet's core. Joining a small Autobot detachment, they destroyed the drill and returned to Autobot City to face the greater threat: a timestorm that threatened 20 years of history with destruction. As Galvatron had spent months back in the 20th century, the universe was unraveling from the anomaly.

Arcee, Rodimus and several other Autobots traveled back in time to 1989 in order to retrieve the Decepticon villain. Unfortunately, the Autobots of that day mistook them for imposters and tried to kill them. Arcee was nearly mauled to death by the [[Dinobot (G1)|Dinobots]] before [[Goldbug (G1)|Goldbug]] explained that they were actually travelers from the future. Even more unfortunately, Galvatron had acquired some allies in the past: Scourge, [[Ravage (G1)|Ravage]], and the mighty [[Straxus (G1)|Megatron]]. She joined Kup and Ultra Magnus in trying to triple-team Megatron, but was only swatted aside like a bothersome insect. Arcee survived, however, and managed to take a few cheap shots at Galvatron later on in the fight. Arcee and the Autobots returned to their time only to find it had reset so Galvatron never time-jumped and had instead conquered Cybertron. Their resistance movement was quickly crushed, and the Autobots were forced to leave their homeworld. {{storylink|Aspects of Evil!}} Arcee joined a hundreds-strong Autobot team in fleeing to Earth to regroup. Despite Kup's warnings, the Dinobots loaded too many supplies onto the ship, and the ship crashed on a planet. Everyone landed safely, but Kup recognized the place. It was the planet [[Quintessa|Quintesson]]! They were interrupted by a tribal scream and a flurry of firestones. However, the boy who made his presence known was not aiming at them, but at the Quintessons behind them. The boy's name was [[Wheelie (G1)|Wheelie]], and he had been abandoned on the planet when his ship crashed there earlier.

Over time, she slipped away from her friends entirely, disappearing within [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]]. After an unspecified event, she took on the form of a techno-organic spider, and learned the skills of both [[Crystalocution]] and the previously lost art of [[Tekkaido]]. She strongly believed that she had premonitions of her friends' deaths before they would happen, and this knowledge had driven her insane. She hid herself away, hoping to spare herself the pain of experiencing this phenomenon.

Hundreds of [[Stellar cycle|stellar cycles]] later, when [[Predacon (BW)|Predacon]] [[Megatron (BW)|Megatron]] returned from [[Earth]]'s past and conquered Cybertron with his army of [[Vehicon (BM)|Vehicons]], Arcee's solitude spared her from the onslaught. [[Hot Rod (G1)|Hot Rod]], now known as simply Rodimus, had helped form a new team of [[Wrecker|Wreckers]] and wished to enlist Arcee. But Arcee rejected his offer as she was still too embittered by her experience, though she was touched by the Wrecker [[Fractyl]]'s words. Rodimus's Wreckers were followed by Megatron's new Vehicon generals, [[Quake (G1)|Quake]] and [[Blastcharge (BM)|Blastcharge]], causing a battle that resulted in Fractyl's near-death. Refusing to lose another, Arcee used her spark to save Fractyl, also reformatting him into a Transmetal body. Arcee agreed to depart with the rest of the Wreckers, and she and Fractyl assisted them in defeating a vast Vehicon army in order to reach an old [[Autobot shuttle]]. {{storylink|Departure}}

At Arcee's insistence, [[Apelinq]] created a crude medical bot, [[CatSCAN]], to assist Fractyl's recovery. Arcee was oddly unable to foresee the deaths of [[Spittor (BW)|Spittor]] and [[Sonar (BW)|Sonar]], a result of a yet-unknown saboteur amongst their ranks, as she happily watched CatSCAN discover himself while working on Fractyl. Arcee stayed behind with a few others to repair damage to their ship by their mysterious saboteur, who turned out to be fellow Wrecker [[Cyclonus (G1)|Cyclonus]]. Arcee blamed herself, as she hadn't been able to foresee death since she saved Fractyl. Demoralized, Arcee and the Wreckers left Archa Nine and headed to another planet at the insistence of their divinely-inspired leader, [[Primal Prime]]. They landed on a small icy planet, and a small scout team, including Arcee, was sent to investigate. After searching for hours, they stumbled upon [[Al-Badur]], a [[Quintesson]] scientist. Arcee immediately readied her weapon, as she and Rodimus had had enough of the Quintessons for several lifetimes, but Primal Prime asked her to lower them. Al-Badur was a somewhat welcome source of information regarding their quest, and before they could leave the planet with him, they were under attack by a horde of [[Sharkticon (G1)|Sharkticons]] sent by Cryotek. Arcee and Rodimus quietly bonded as they battled the Sharkticons; it was just like old times. Slowly but surely, Arcee's demeanor had lightened. After the Sharkticons were defeated, Al-Badur explained their problem. The Divine Light was an ancient Quintesson piece of technology that allowed them to tap directly into the power of [[Primus]], and now Cryotek had it! {{storylink|Disclosure}}

But when they returned to Cybertron, it had changed during their absence into a [[technorganic]] paradise by the [[Great Reformatting]]. Quintessons had seized the opportunity to invade the planet, but Primal Prime assured Arcee and the others that Cryotek was their only concern. Primal Prime, Apelinq, [[Ramulus]] and [[Tigatron]] left them to find Cryotek, leaving Arcee and the others to take their injured to safety before joining the counterattack forces on the ground. Instead, their shuttle took heavy damage and was descending in a ball of fire and smoke. Arcee, grabbing Fractyl's body and what life support she could, abandoned ship with the rest. Disregarding Primal Prime's orders, Arcee suggested they find Cryotek and help the other Wreckers defeat him. Descending into the layers of Cybertron, they met [[Cheetor (BW)|Cheetor]], who joined them on their journey.

Finding the battleground between Cryotek and [[Sentinel Maximus]] (the combined form of Apelinq and Primal Prime, newly merged by Primus), Arcee reluctantly set aside Fractyl and his life support to join the fight. She helped Devcon defeat Cryotek's mutated pet [[Chro]], using her weblines to hold the monster still so the bounty hunter could shoot at it. But Cyclonus and Rodimus had disappeared beneath some rubble, so Arcee, Fractyl (who had been magically repaired by Tigatron expending all of his [[Vok]] powers) and the others went digging for him... and instead found [[Botanica (BM)|Botanica]], [[Nightscream (BM)|Nightscream]]... and Arcee's nephew, [[Rattrap]]. They avoided each other's glance awkwardly.

They found Rodimus, but he was in rough shape, having fought nearly to the death with Cyclonus. Arcee and the others agreed to follow Al-Badur's instruction in defeating Cryotek, and helped direct the battle between Sentinel Maximus and Cryotek to a chamber deep within Cybertron. Arcee asked Fractyl to keep on Rodimus, who was extremely weak. Their group arrived in the desired chamber, but Arcee had a bad feeling about the place. It seemed familiar. She recognized it too late. It was a Quintesson banishment chamber, and Al-Badur had activated the containment shield within, locking Sentinel Maximus, Cryotek, and himself inside a forcefield bubble that fed into a strongly gravitational portal into nothingness. To Arcee's initial horror, despite her pleas, Rodimus stood up to deal with the situation. She knew that his next action would kill him in his weakened state, but after his assurances, she resigned herself to the outcome. Rodimus and Cheetor, both [[Matrix Templar]]s, used their skills to drain Cryotek of his Primus-stolen powers. As expected, this was too much for Arcee's long-time friend, and though they succeeded in saving Cybertron, Rodimus was dead.

In order to oversee the decommissioning of all Cybertronian technology on Earth, Arcee was sent to the planet alongside [[Perceptor (G1)|Perceptor]], [[Grimlock (G1)|Grimlock]] and [[Bumblebee (G1)|Bumblebee]], the last of which whom she had a mutual attraction to. Shortly after the group arrived at [[Area 52 (G1)|Area 52]], the facility came under attack by [[Cobra]], and Arcee helped fight them off alongside [[Scarlett]], who was surprised over the existence of "girl robots". {{storylink|The Art of War issue 1|The Art of War #1}} Upon hearing about a security breach in the lower levels of Area 52, the group headed there and, to Arcee's horror, found Bumblebee injured and low on energy. Before much could be done about him, the group was attacked by [[Serpent O.R.]], who took control of [[G.I. Joe battle mech|G.I. The Autobots and Joes survived, and quickly followed Serpent O.R. through a warpgate to Cybertron, where they were attacked by [[cannibalizer]]s. Arcee was an early test subject of the mad genius [[Jhiaxus (G2)|Jhiaxus]], after he decided to introduce gender into the Transformers just to see the results. Her fundamental [[CNA]] was altered, giving her a "maddening maelstrom of contradictory sensory input" and causing all other Transformers to sense a fundamental difference about her and inadvertently use feminine pronouns around her, something that she loathes. (It also gave her fangs and permanent lipstick for some unknown reason.)

She didn't meet Jhiaxus' standards and was dumped. Dangerously unstable and driven by an implacable homing instinct towards her creator's experiments, Arcee cut a mech-fluid swath of carnage across several planets in her obsession with destroying everything Jhiaxus created. She was eventually taken down by [[Tyrest Accord]] enforcer [[Ultra Magnus (G1)|Ultra Magnus]] and incarcerated on the Autobot penitentiary on [[Garrus-9]].

Her [[spark]] was kept separate from her body within the penitentiary, as were those of all prisoners. In this limbo, she found a kind of peace. Unfortunately, when the Decepticons attacked to seize the new inmate [[Monstructor (G1)|Monstructor]] (another Jhiaxus experiment), warden [[Fortress Maximus (G1)|Fortress Maximus]] freed her as a last resort to stop the attack. She was able to carve her way through the invaders, but not before they left with their target. She headed off to intercept them, with [[Jetfire (G1)|Jetfire]] convincing Maximus to allow this. Arcee apparently knows of the [[Expansion]] and Jhiaxus's part in it, and refers to herself as the "servo-wrench in the works". {{storylink|Spotlight: Arcee}}

Later, on the [[Decepticon Battle Platform Zuska]], Arcee tortured a Decepticon until he agreed to tell her where [[Banzai-Tron (G1)|Banzaitron]] had taken the [[Combiner|gestalts]]. {{storylink|Spotlight: Cyclonus}} She tracked them down, only to find the [[Dead Universe]] Transformers had activated Monstructor and taken him to places unknown, decimating the Decepticons in the process. Which meant she could kill him over and over.

The early [[The Transformers (toyline)|Generation 1 toyline]], especially the pre-[[The Transformers: The Movie|movie]] lines, were repackaged and [[Redeco|redecoed]] toys from several different Japanese toylines. The crucial point is that the toylines were initially unrelated. The characters ''should'' be in scale to each other as they all have real-world altmodes that (should) pass for real vehicles. However, since ''[[Diaclone]]'' toys were not part of the same line as ''[[Microman]]'' toys, scale issues arose. ''Diaclone'' figures such as [[Optimus Prime (G1)/toys|Optimus Prime]], [[Prowl (G1)|Prowl]] and [[Hound (G1)|Hound]] are more-or-less in correct scale to each other (though problems already arise with [[Sunstreaker (G1)|Sunstreaker]] and [[Sideswipe (G1)|Sideswipe]], whose [[alternate mode]]s are based on ''the same car'' yet are not quite the same size), but many of the [[Mini Vehicle]]s from the ''New Microman'' line are clearly far too small by comparison. Even aside from their deformed penny-racer proportions, a [[Bumblebee (G1)/toys|Volkswagen Beetle]] Microman toy is disproportionately tiny when compared to a [[Jazz (G1)/toys|Porsche 935]] Diaclone toy. The disparity becomes even more obvious with [[Mini Vehicle|Minibots]] such as [[Warpath (G1)|Warpath]] (a tank) and [[Seaspray (G1)|Seaspray]] (a hovercraft), who should be many times their actual size.

Another glaring scale problem comes in the form of the [[Seeker (body-type)|Seekers]], who turn into F-15 Eagles which, in real life, are 19.4 m (63.8 feet) long. Correctly scaled, this would make their robot modes ''colossal'' compared to most Autobots. Similarly, the [[Constructicon (G1)|Constructicons]], despite also coming from the ''Diaclone'' line, are too small. Far worse is the other ''Diaclone'' combiner team, the [[Trainbot]]s, who have train engine altmodes, yet their toys are among the ''smallest'' of the ''Diaclone'' releases.

Transformers are currently formalised to a variety of [[size class|size classes]], which dictate the approximate cost and dimensions of a figure. Consequently, if the powers that be release toys of two characters in the same line in the same size class, they're going to come out in the same size. Even if one character's a [[Starscream (Movie)|twenty-metre fighter jet]] and the other's a [[Ironhide (Movie)|five-metre pickup truck]]. So don't expect this one to go away any time soon.

===Toys out of scale within teams===
Even toys specifically [[combiner|designed to interact with each other]] suffer from this problem. The [[Combaticon (G1)|Combaticons]] are wildly out of scale to each other—[[Blast Off (G1)|Blast Off]]'s [[Popular Earth vehicle alternate modes#Space Shuttle Orbiter|Space Shuttle]] mode should dwarf [[Swindle (G1)|Swindle]], with the others somewhere in between. Instead, they're about the same size. Among the Constructicons, [[Long Haul (G1)|Long Haul]] is designed to look like a gigantic [[Wikipedia:Image:Liebherr t282 1.jpg|"earth-mover" mining truck]]. He should be able to carry all his teammates in his bed, with some crowding. Similarly, [[Silverbolt (G1)|Silverbolt]] (a [[Popular Earth vehicle alternate modes#Concorde|Concorde jet]]) is dramatically undersized compared to his fighter-jet [[Aerialbot (G1)|Aerialbot]] teammates. These scale problems are necessary to avoid misproportioned gestalt forms.

Don't even ask about the [[Protectobot (G1)|Protectobots]] with their [[Groove (G1)|motorcycle]] and [[Blades (G1)|helicopter]] limbs...

===Same alternate mode, different sizes===
Other scale problems come from characters who transform into the same (or similar) [[alternate mode]]s, but whose toys are different sizes. For example, [[Air Raid (G1)#Toys|the original Air Raid]] transforms into an [[Popular Earth vehicle alternate modes#F-15 Eagle|F-15 Eagle]], but his toy is half the size of [[Starscream (G1)/toys|the original Starscream]]'s. The same can be said for the [[Popular Earth vehicle alternate modes#Lamborghini Countach|Lamborghini Countach]] [[Breakdown (G1)#Toys|Breakdown]], who should be the same size as [[Sunstreaker (G1)#Toys|Sunstreaker]] and [[Sideswipe (G1)#Toys|Sideswipe]], not significantly smaller. These discrepancies are also seen in the other "[[Scramble City]]" combiners with Earth altmodes, whose toys are all smaller than similar earlier toys.

===Multiple scales of same character===

Starting with ''[[Beast Machines (toyline)|Beast Machines]]'', many franchises have released multiple versions of the same character in different [[size class]]es, most often the leader characters. Originally, the intent was apparently to make the popular [[Optimus (disambiguation)|Optimus]] and [[Megatron (disambiguation)|Megatron]] characters available at lower price points than just the large and expensive "Leader" class, so that children with less money would not miss out, and perhaps persuading [[completist]]-minded [[User:ItsWalky|collectors]] to buy multiple versions of one character.

While this introduces a nice range of options for the discerning collector, it can also lead to some problems. ''Beast Machines'', for example, featured three different [[Cheetor (BW)/toys|Cheetor toys]]. The [[Cheetor (BW)/toys#BMSupreme|Supreme size toy]] was so large it could not interact with most of the other toys from the line (based on [[Beast Machines (cartoon)|the cartoon]], he's maaaaybe in scale with [[Nightscream (BM)#Toys|Nightscream]] and [[Optimus Primal/toys#Robots in Disguise|Air Attack Optimus Primal]], the later of whom wasn't released until three years later). The [[Cheetor (BW)/toys#BMNSC|Deluxe Cheetor]], on the other hand, was too ''small'' to match scales with most of the other toys (again, using the cartoon as a yardstick). Anyone looking ''within'' the toyline for notions of a "correct" scale between the characters would be stymied by the multiple size classes and the lack of real-world scale references.

Other instances of multiple-size characters are more clear cut; the [[Spy Changer]] incarnations of various ''[[Robots in Disguise (toyline)|Robots in Disguise]]'' characters, for instance, are simply scaled-down representations of the same characters in the same bodies, not meant to interact with the much larger "main" toys, as are the later "Legends of Cybertron" toys in ''[[Cybertron (toyline)|Cybertron]]''. Other multiple-toy scale differences include intentionally simplified forms, such as the [[Fast Action Battlers]], which simply make all the characters the same size, with no attempt at matching scales.

Multiple-scale characters usually aren't meant to cross-interact. A rare exception is [[Movie (franchise)|live-action]] [[Blackout (Movie)#Voyager Class toys|Blackout]], who came with a [[Scorponok (Movie)#Voyager Class Blackout companions|tiny (and correctly scaled) version of Scorponok]]. A much larger [[Scorponok (Movie)#Deluxe Class toys|Deluxe version of Scorponok]] is ''also'' meant to interact with the same Blackout toy, despite the ridiculous scale disparity (and the fact that this means Blackout can have ''two'' Scorponoks of radically different size clipped to him simultaneously.)

Multiple toy sizes are generally irrelevant to the fiction, though the [[Cybertron (cartoon)|''Cybertron'' cartoon]] featured [[Starscream (Armada)|Starscream]] inflating to planetary size, presumably in response to the [[Starscream (Armada)#Supreme|super-large "King Starscream" toy]] available at the time.

===Toys out of scale with themselves===

[[Triple Changer]]s create a whole new set of problems. The original [[Astrotrain (G1)#Toys|Astrotrain]] transforms from a 21-meter (70-foot) locomotive to a 56-meter (184-foot) [[Popular Earth vehicle alternate modes#Space Shuttle Orbiter|Space Shuttle]]. [[Octane#Toys|Octane]]'s original body transforms from a 20-meter (60-foot) tanker truck into a 65-meter (200-foot) jumbo jet. [[Broadside (G1)|Broadside]] transforms from an Earth fighter jet of indeterminate model (let's pretend for the sake of argument that he's supposed to be an [[Popular Earth vehicle alternate modes#F-14 Tomcat|F-14]] and say he's 18 meters (61 feet) long) into an entire ''aircraft carrier'', approximately 333 meters (1,092 feet) long.

The newer versions of Astrotrain and Octane (aka "Tankor"), while changing the specifics of their alternate modes, really don't improve on the general size disparity all that much.

Even a two-mode toy can have this problem. [[Optimus Prime (G1)/toys#20th Anniversary/Masterpiece|Twentieth Anniversary Optimus Prime]] has wheels which are pretty tiny for a Freightliner truck, while his rear hitch section is too thick. These out-of-proportion vehicle parts were necessary to give his robot mode [[Show-accuracy|show-accurate]] proportions.

===Toys with roleplay altmodes===
The characters with roleplay altmodes such as Generation 1 [[Megatron (G1)/toys|Megatron]], [[Soundwave (G1)/toys|Soundwave]], [[Perceptor (G1)#Toys|Perceptor]], or [[Laserbeak (Armada)#Toys|''Armada'' Laserbeak]] are scaled to be real-world [[human]]-scale (well, kid-scale). Since the [[size changing]] seen in the fiction is not possible for real toys (at least, that's what [[TakaraTomy|Takara]] ''wants'' us to think), this human-scaling makes in some cases for inordinately large robot modes. E.g., [[Blaster (G1)#Toys|Blaster]]'s toy, in robot mode, is taller than most other Transformers.

The opposite problem is seen with [[Megatron (G1)/toys#MasterpieceMegs|Masterpiece Megatron]], whose robot mode is in scale with [[Optimus Prime (G1)/toys#20th Anniversary/Masterpiece|Masterpiece Optimus Prime]]. The result is that, while he may transform into a very accurately-proportioned handgun, it's unmistakably much larger than the real thing. (Not that this has stopped him being widely banned as a "realistic firearm replica"....)

===Fanciful altmodes===
Characters with alternate modes that are not meant to be replicas of real-world things (or at least, close enough to while being legally-distinct from said things) are difficult to accurately scale, as they generally transform into futuristic or Cybertronian vehicles whose size we don't really know... or, indeed, they don't transform into vehicles at all. The scale of characters such as the [[Dinobot (G1)|original Dinobots]], [[Hot Rod (G1)/toys|Hot Rod]] or [[Overhaul (Cybertron)#Voyager|Leobreaker]] is fairly arbitrary and can only be estimated by their relative size to other characters within the fiction, although most fiction is highly inconsistent in this regard (see below). Nevertheless, if one assumes that most vehicle altmodes are intended for [[human]]-sized passengers, comparing toys such as [[Chromedome (G1)#Toys|Chromedome]] with [[Lightspeed (G1 Technobot)#Toys|Lightspeed]] suggests the combiner scale problem continues.

===Big toys===
It goes without saying that the [[city-bot]] and planetbot toys (such as [[Fortress Maximus (G1)#Toys|Fortress Maximus]] and [[Unicron/toys|Unicron]]) are not remotely to scale with normal Transformer toys. While they are indeed ''large'' toys, they're only two to five times bigger than typical Transformer toys, and thus transform into "cities" and "planets" about the (relative) size of a bungalow. The scale problems extend to the details. Some of the citybot toys have visible windows, which are too large for a city, suggesting instead a medium-sized building.

However, it's hard to begrudge [[Hasbro]] not offering us a [[Primus]] toy the size of an asteroid. Where would we keep it?

===Action Masters===

The [[:Category:Action Master vehicles|Action Master vehicles]] were designed to take advantage of the fact that the [[Action Master]] figures were all the same size. They can each pilot each other's vehicles or ride as a passenger. With the vehicles as a frame of reference, it seems we should take it as fact that all of the Action Masters are literally the same size, even characters such as Bumblebee and Devastator. Did Devastator shrink?

===The rare exceptions===
There have been precious few exceptions to all of this scale weirdness in the toys. However, the ''[[Alternators]]'' toyline, where every toy is a 1:24-scale representation of a real car, and thus in perfect scale with each other, was the first to buck the trend. Unfortunately, for practical reasons this limits the choice of altmodes. A [[Blast Off (G1)|Blast Off]] (Space Shuttle) toy in scale with the ''Alternator''s toys would be 1.6 meters (5.1 feet) long, while a [[Broadside (G1)|Broadside]] (aircraft carrier) toy at that scale would be over 12 meters (40 feet)! Hasbro actually displayed [[Prototype|mock-ups]] for an unproduced line of "military" Transformers in scale with ''Alternators'' during the [[BotCon 2007]] Hasbro Tour; two of them recycled parts of ''[[Armada (toyline)|Armada]]'' [[Unicron/toys#Armada|Unicron]], and were thus [[Size class|Supreme-sized]], which made said potential toyline not particularly commercially viable for Hasbro.

The direct —and indirect— successors to ''Alternators'' would also maintain a mostly consistent internal scale. ''[[Alternators#Binaltech Asterisk|Binaltech Asterisk]]'' and ''[[Kiss Players (toyline)|Kiss Players]]'' would make use of the same molds, only with added [[human]] female driver figures... which were woefully small compared to the cars they came with. The original ''Transformers'' fictions often depict characters to the same relative scale as the toys, which duplicates the intra-toyline problems described above. The cartoon, for example, shows [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus]], [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]] and [[Soundwave (G1)|Soundwave]] as about the same height, [[Seeker (body-type)|Seeker]]s and Autobot cars as slightly shorter (though not as much as the toys are), and [[Mini Vehicle|Minibots]] as smaller yet. This scale was carried over to their vehicle forms, resulting in differently-sized cars that, based on real world measurements, should be virtually the same size.

For another example, the [[Marvel Comics|Marvel]] comics portrayed the [[Pretender]]s as literal interpretations of their toys: 60-foot humans with full-scale Transformers inside. The "disguise" aspect of this was later explained by having [[Landmine (G1)|Landmine]] and [[Cloudburst]] encounter [[Femax|giant, transformer-sized humanoids on an alien planet]] which made them appear to be of a "normal" scale.

Transformers fiction commonly shrinks or inflates characters, relative to their toy sizes. "Giant" characters such as [[Omega Supreme (G1)|Omega Supreme]] are, even aside from any [[size changing]] for transport purposes, clearly not in the same scale in toy form as they are depicted on screen. [[Mini-Cassette|Cassette characters]] such as [[Rumble (G1)|Rumble]]'s toys are roughly the same height as most Minibots, while in the show they are usually portrayed as human-sized.

[[Hot Rod (G1)|Rodimus Prime]] and [[Ultra Magnus (G1)|Ultra Magnus]] are usually shown to be of a fairly similar height (although Magnus is much bulkier), whereas there is a considerable difference between the size of their toys. By the same token, Rodimus is always depicted as being an equal stature to his opposing leader [[Galvatron (G1)|Galvatron]], whereas the [[Galvatron (G1)/toys|toy Galvatron]] is instead the same size as Magnus. Optimus Prime is also usually shown as only a head or so shorter than Magnus (if that), which gets very strange when you realize that a [[redeco]] of Prime's toy forms but a small part of Magnus' robot mode.

The cast of ''[[Beast Wars (cartoon)|Beast Wars]]'' were size-tweaked quite a bit, relative to the toyline. The most noticeable problem is [[Optimus Primal]], who has an Ultra toy (the "level four" size, almost twice the size of the "level three" Mega next-largest Maximal toys), but is shorter than both [[Dinobot (BW)|Dinobot]] and [[Rhinox (BW)|Rhinox]] (both of whom are "level two" Deluxe sized toys). Further, [[Cheetor (BW)/toys#Beast Wars|Cheetor]] and [[Tigatron#Toys|Tigatron]]'s toys use the same (Deluxe) mold, but Tigatron is a head taller in the show (both because tigers are larger than cheetahs, and because Cheetor is "a kid"). New and altered characters in later seasons were generally more consistent in size (and appearance) with the toys. This problem was magnified when the Generation 1 characters cameoed in the series. [[Megatron (BW)|Megatron]] is a Tyrannosaurus rex but is shown in The Agenda Part 3, as being much smaller than Optimus Prime.

Of the [[Maximal]]s featured in the show, the tallest character, [[Silverbolt (BW)|Silverbolt]], is [[Silverbolt (BW)#Beast Machines|the ''shortest'' toy]], while the diminutive [[Nightscream (BM)|Nightscream]] is a [[Nightscream (BM)#Toys|massive Ultra-class toy]]. And, sadly, the most show-accurate toy, [[Optimus Primal/toys#Robots in Disguise|Air Attack Optimus Primal]], is a ''ginormous'' Supreme figure, towering over the other toys. In the otherwise fairly toy-scale-savvy [[Unicron Trilogy]], [[Metroplex (Cybertron)|''Cybertron'' Metroplex]] and the other citizens of [[Gigantion]] are depicted as gargantuan in animation, whereas the toys are merely among the normal boxed size-classes. Within the animation, this causes problems with their [[Mini-Con]] partners, who are depicted as human-sized in robot mode by themselves, but when shown directly interacting with their larger partners, are scaled up right along with their partner... resulting in some temporarily gigantic Mini-Cons!

The Japanese ''[[Cybertron (franchise)#Galaxy Force|Galaxy Force]]'' release of [[Metroplex (Cybertron)#Toys|Metroplex]], dubbed "Megalo Convoy", included an exclusive [[redeco]] of the [[Legends Class|Legends of Cybertron]] [[Optimus Prime (Armada)/toys#MegaloConvoy|Optimus Prime toy]] to indicate the "correct" scale.

The ''[[Transformers Animated (franchise)|Animated]]'' franchise has its share of scale problems when comparing its toyline to the cartoon (not helped by multiple releases of some characters in different sizes—see above), with several characters seeming roughly one [[size class]] too small, such as the [[Dinobot (Animated)|Dinobots]] being a mix of one Voyager size and two Deluxes, [[Sentinel Prime (Animated)#Toys|Sentinel Prime]] looking rather diminutive as a Deluxe, and, most egregiously, [[Lugnut (Animated)#Toys|Lugnut]] as a ''very'' squat Voyager who's shorter than even some Deluxes. (As with [[Bulkhead (Animated)#Toys|Voyager-class Bulkhead]], more of his mass went into his width, plus his weapon takes away some from his robot mode.) Conversely, the traditionally stunted [[Bumblebee (Animated)#Toys|Bumblebee]] is marginally too tall and bulky to be in correct scale to his otherwise fairly accurate core teammates, assuming one includes [[Optimus Prime (Animated)#Voyager|Voyager Optimus]] and [[Bulkhead (Animated)#Leader|Leader Bulkhead]] in their lineup. In fact, ''Animated'' is one of those toylines where you're not quite sure who you're supposed to base correct scale on.

Even if a size was decided on, it often didn't remain consistent. The height of the cartoon's [[Jetfire (G1)|Skyfire]], just to name one, frequently varied between episodes.

The [[The Transformers (Marvel comic)|Generation 1 Marvel comic]] is notorious for changing the relative sizes of various characters. A single Transformer's size is rarely consistent between artists. For example, [[Rumble (G1)|Rumble]] and [[Frenzy (G1)|Frenzy]] vary in height relative to [[Soundwave (G1)|Soundwave]]. A panel in the "[[Time Wars]]" shows [[Bumblebee (G1)|Goldbug]], [[Ironhide (G1)|Ironhide]], [[Scattershot]], and [[Swoop (G1)|Swoop]] all the same height. [[Omega Supreme (G1)|Omega Supreme]], titanic in his original appearance, {{storylink|Command Performances!}} shrunk steadily in subsequent issues until he was not much taller than the average Transformer. [[Fortress Maximus (G1)|Fortress Maximus]] suffered a similar problem, shrinking in size even though he was explicitly rebuilt to be twice as tall as the average Transformer.

Between the [[Great War (G1)|Great War]] and the [[Beast Era]], the majority of the Cybertronian race considerably downgraded in size at the [[Great Upgrade]]. When entering the [[Ark (G1)|Ark]], the Beast Warriors are quite small compared to the dormant Generation 1 characters, especially [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]]—but just ''how'' much bigger varies quite a bit from scene to scene and episode to episode. When interacting with the Autobot technology of the Ark and the [[Autobot shuttle]], the [[Maximal]]s are often dealing with equipment grossly oversized for them (standing on the chairs to reach the controls, turning knobs the size of their heads); yet the Ark also seems to feature some human-sized computer control panels. {{storylink|Master Blaster|Master Blaster}} Without any height booster, [[Blackarachnia (BW)|Blackarachnia]] can interface well with these controls.

On the other hand, ''[[Robot Masters (franchise)|Robot Masters]]'' depicted Generation 1 and ''Beast Wars'' characters like [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]] and [[Optimus Primal]] as being exactly the same size. Lovely. It's possible that passage through the [[Blasty Zone]] may somehow [[Wikipedia:Boom tube#Later Additions to the Concept|account for this discrepancy]].

The cartoons and comics typically show this without explanation, leaving the reader to attribute it to advanced alien technology.

====Pretenders====
Some versions of the [[Pretender]]s are shown to explicitly shrink when hiding in their human-sized outer shells. In the U.S. toy commercials, [[Grimlock (G1)|Grimlock]], [[Bumblebee (G1)|Bumblebee]], and [[Jazz (G1)|Jazz]] in their new Pretender forms were small enough to fit in [[Powermaster]] [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]]'s hand. So, at least in that [[micro-continuity]], they were human-sized. ''[[Super-God Masterforce (cartoon)|Super-God Masterforce]]'' featured Pretenders who did not have outer shells but rather an ill-defined holistic transformation which explicitly involved size changing. A vaguely similar explanation appeared in [[Dreamwave Productions|Dreamwave]]'s ''[[More Than Meets The Eye (G1)|More Than Meets The Eye]]'' encyclopedia.

===Implicit size changes===
Characters often change size in a less explicit fashion when transforming. These changes in scale are usually attributed to size-changing by that portion of the fan base who like to find explanations for things. The other explanation is that the artists hoped the audience wouldn't notice. It can also be supposed that they are hiding their mass somewhere (car style Transformers storing mass in their passenger compartments when in humanoid form, [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream]] folding his wings flat, the buildings in a city-bot collapsing to eliminate the spaces normally occupied by humans, boat-bots filling up or getting rid of the vast empty areas used to provide buoyancy) or puffing up with empty space, but at a certain point, things just get silly. Some Transformers are smaller than solid blocks of the mass contained in their alt modes: [[Unicron]] would have to be about as thick as the [[Earth]]'s crust while in planetary form, and [[Optimus Prime (disambiguation)|Optimus Prime]] would probably be blown away by a stiff breeze in his larger incarnations.

====Transport characters====

In the [[The Transformers (cartoon)|original cartoon]], Transformers that act as transport for other Transformers, such as [[Astrotrain (G1)|Astrotrain]], [[Jetfire (G1)|Skyfire]], and [[Cosmos (G1)|Cosmos]], will often dramatically change size relative to their compatriots between one shot and the next. For example, Cosmos is ''much'' shorter than [[Blaster (G1)|Blaster]] in robot form; yet Blaster easily fits within his spacecraft mode. Likewise, a whole squad of Decepticons can fit into Astrotrain's shuttle mode easily (including the combined-form [[Devastator (G1)|Devastator]]!), yet he's an ordinary-sized trooper in his robot form.

Sometimes the cartoon would show ordinarily-scaled characters such as [[Cyclonus (G1)|Cyclonus]], [[Thrust (G1)|Thrust]] or [[Huffer (G1)|Huffer]] carrying another Transformer in their cockpit, implying either a tiny passenger or a huge vehicle. Even [[Omega Supreme (G1)|Omega Supreme]], who is supposed to be huge, would have to have a greatly expanded scale for his rocket ship component to accommodate passengers as shown on the cartoon.

The Marvel comics commonly sidestepped this issue by not using Transformers as transport characters, or else requiring the passengers to transform into their explicitly smaller forms to be carried. Yet they were not immune to this problem. In one story, the Pretender [[Cloudburst]] exited his shell, transformed into jet mode, and then his shell (and [[Landmine (G1)|Landmine]]) boarded him as a passenger. The fact that his ''outer'' shell was now much smaller than the ''inner'' robot was quietly ignored. {{storylink|Guess Who the Mecannibals Are Having for Dinner?}}

[[Dreamwave Productions|Dreamwave's]] ''[[More Than Meets The Eye (G1)|More Than Meets The Eye]]'' series of [[bio]] comics tried to explain this for characters such as Astrotrain and [[Broadside (G1)|Broadside]] by saying they're able to expand themselves to increase cargo space in vehicle mode, though their armor becomes thinner as it is spread out more. Conversely, the series notes, in robot mode, all that armor and structure being compressed into a smaller form makes that mode stronger and more durable for combat.

This concept is lampshaded in the credits of [[Transformers:_War_for_Cybertron|WFC]], where [[Bumblebee_(Prime)|Bumblebee]] pulls up, and the entire Autobot cast of the game step out of his passenger door, clown car style.

====Combiner characters====

[[Combiner]] characters are often depicted as far larger than the sum of their parts. Characters such as [[Devastator (G1)|Devastator]] and [[Menasor (G1)|Menasor]] are frequently shown as [[Godzilla]]-sized. Given that their limbs are mere cars and construction vehicles, this is patently absurd. ([[Superion (G1)|Superion]], by contrast, ''would'' be building-sized, given that his torso is a 100-seat jetliner.)

Combiners are also often out-of-scale with other Transformers; a combiner with cars for legs and another car for its torso should be only twice as tall as a one-car Transformer, but they are routinely drawn as five to dozens of times taller than their comrades.

Sometimes, they are even out of scale in their own team; [[Bruticus (G1)|Bruticus]]'s torso is an [[Onslaught (G1)|anti-aircraft truck]], while one of his limbs is a [[Blast Off (G1)|Space Shuttle]] and another is a [[Swindle (G1)|two-person offroad vehicle]]. For this to work, either Blast Off has to shrink, or Swindle needs to grow.

====Scale problems and size-changing====
Some fans interpret the many otherwise-unexplained scale issues above to all be the result of [[size changing]], but this is debatable. If virtually all characters use mass-shifting (or whatever) to gain or drop a few feet of height for no logical reason, the technology would be pointlessly mundane. There's also no known reason for (e.g.) the [[Seeker (body-type)|Seeker]]s to choose to get ''shorter'' when going into battle. A to-scale Starscream in robot mode could kick Bumblebee around like a soccer ball. There's simply no positive evidence that size-changing is so widespread.

===Undersized alternate modes===
Many Transformers are portrayed in fiction as having alternate modes that are smaller than the real-life objects they are imitating. Sometimes this is deliberate, allowing them to match their toy scale and/or be of a similar size to other characters; in other cases, it is essentially an artistic error.

Toys at the lowest price points usually include "mini" or "micro" in their name. [[Mini Vehicle]]s [[Warpath (G1)|Warpath]], [[Seaspray (G1)|Seaspray]], and [[Powerglide (G1)|Powerglide]] are usually depicted as smaller than other Transformers in fiction, even though their alternate modes should have them towering over other characters. This often results in minuscule vehicle forms; Seaspray is a tiny hovercraft, despite being covered with doors and windows. (Conversely, if a new toy based on such a [[character]] is designed to be more in scale with other toys, such as [[Universe (2008 toyline)|2008 ''Universe'']] Ultra Class Powerglide or [[Transformers (2010 toyline)|2010 ''Transformers'']] Voyager Class [[Sea Spray]], some [[fandom|fans]] complain ''because they expect those new toys to reflect the original toys' sizes'' and, by extension, the [[show-accuracy|depiction in fiction]].)

The [[Micromaster]]s are explicitly downsized Transformers, roughly the size of a human in the comics, meaning that they ''should'' have explicitly tiny vehicle modes... which wouldn't make for very convincing disguises. The Micromasters are about the same height in robot mode, but they transform into equally tiny cars, trucks, planes, tanks, and other vehicles that should be vastly different sizes.

Despite this, the Marvel comic featured [[Roadhandler (G1)|Roadhandler]] carrying a human passenger in his vehicle form, as though he were a full-sized car. The Dreamwave miniseries ''[[Micromasters]]'' suggested that the Micromasters were scaled down to interact more easily with "smaller beings". Whether that meant creatures of human scale or even smaller stature is never clarified, but the Micromasters' passenger compartments are presumably too small to accommodate human passengers.

The [[Mini-Con]]s of the [[Unicron Trilogy]] are another race of small robots who stand approximately the same height as humans and, like the Micromasters before them, are clearly modeled to carry passengers. Really teeny passengers. (Notable exceptions are [[Grindor (Armada)|Grindor]] (in his original body), [[Sureshock (Armada)|Sureshock]], and [[High Wire (Armada)|High Wire]], who become small one-man conveyances.) This results from the Mini-Cons scanning normal vehicles and then resizing them to fit, retaining now-useless passenger compartments. In the [[Cybertron (cartoon)|''Cybertron'' cartoon]], the [[Recon Mini-Con Team]] have slightly-larger-than-human robot modes, but their alternate modes are large enough for a single human passenger, implying either a little size-changing or that their cockpits are kinda cramped. Though the Recon Team all originate from Gigantion, and seeing how partnered Mini-Cons seem to change size to fit their larger companions, a little size shift to accomodate a passenger doesn't seem too far-fetched compared to other scale issues.

Likewise, the [[Beast Era]] Maximals and Predacons possess roughly human-size bodies; yet when portrayed as vehicles on Cybertron ("[[Dawn of Future's Past]]", the [[Vehicon (BM)|Vehicons]] in ''[[Beast Machines (cartoon)|Beast Machines]]''), they feature seats and cockpits that, at their size, should be basically useless.

====Citybots====

[[City-bot|A few characters]] have "city" alternate modes. As actual real-life cities can sprawl for many miles, a [[city-bot]] that can notionally house a population of humans, ''let alone'' Transformers, should have a robot-mode that'd make Godzilla look like a gecko. Suffice to say, almost no fiction even ''begins'' to approximate the logical size of a true "city-bot". In the American and Japanese cartoons, all four were shown as massive robots capable of housing many normal-sized Transformers. Even so, it would take something along the lines of the grossly undersized depictions of [[Unicron]] (see below) even to begin to represent reasonably the colossal size of a transformed city; so in the context of Transformers, "city" is perhaps better read as "building" or "fortress".

These city-bots often have "small" robots forming vital components. Scorponok has a "human-sized" being forming his head. [[Full-Tilt]], [[Six-Gun]], and [[Slammer]] must logically be building-sized in robot-mode to be in-scale with Trypticon and Metroplex, but, again, are not drawn as such.

The Marvel Generation 1 comic sidestepped this issue by depicting Trypticon, Fortress Maximus and Scorponok as merely "large-standard" characters. However, Metroplex, during his one, brief appearance, was depicted as being immensely larger, crushing Quintesson attack cruisers under foot without batting an eyelid. He was still considerably smaller than a city, however, but this was justified by him merely serving as the 'transformation core' for Autobot City: Earth, not the actual city itself.

Scale when it comes to planets is so fraught it's painful. The problems of describing citybots as "cities" is a thousand times worse if [[Unicron]] is supposed to have a planet alternate mode, and [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]] is in turn supposed to be of similar size. Though different stories have compared Cybertron/Primus and Unicron to drastically different real planets, the fact remains that they are ''planets'', and yet are shown in such insane scale to characters as to suggest they are the size of a ''very'' small moon (or [[Darth Vader|space station]]).

To start with, Cybertron was shown throughout ''Generation 1'' with buildings visible from space. Although this was intended to show that the planet was technological in nature, it makes little sense, as the structures would have to be the size of small ''nations'' to be visible. If the buildings were in fact supposed to be skyscrapers (or even ''2000 A.D.''-style arcologies) sized for 10 m (30') robots, Cybertron would still be less than 150km (100 miles) across. The rather [http://www.starwars.com/databank/location/coruscant/index.html Coruscant]-like shots of Cybertron in ''[[Beast Machines (cartoon)|Beast Machines]]'' may be less distinctive or "Cybertronian", but are ''far'' more believable. (Some people reason that the Transformers' advanced technology, along with their large size and their not needing to breathe, means that buildings actually CAN be that big.)

Unicron is a more extreme problem. Assuming no [[size changing]] occurs during his transformation (and really, what possible reason would he have to become ''smaller''?), in robot mode he would be so massive that any shot featuring a recognizable ''part'' of his body, let alone the whole thing, would be on a scale such that no normal Transformer would even be visible. Shots such as the [[Dinobot (G1)|Dinobots]] fleeing his grasping hand, a starship penetrating his eye, impaling [[Brainstorm]] on his fingernail, {{storylink|On the Edge of Extinction!}} or ''especially'' him picking up Galvatron between his fingers before swallowing him, break any concept of "planetary" scale. The depiction of Unicron's scale in ''[[Armada (franchise)|Armada]]'' was (debatably) a slight improvement, in that physical interaction with normal beings was not attempted. As a side note, Unicron has been established in some continuities as having already devoured approximately 22.56% of known universes which is truly hilarious if one takes actual planetary/galactic scale into consideration. Assuming that Unicron is ''generously'' close to the size of our moon or the planet Mercury, when compared to other stellar bodies he begins to show up as an all but invisible speck. Imagine him trying to devour a star the size of [http://www.kiroastro.com/writings/perspective Betelgeuse]!

Much less common are instances of a Transformer turning into an overscaled real-world object. Most such instances occur in the ''Beast Wars'' era.

Although the Beast Warriors are consistent day-to-day in their relative size to each other, their scale in relation to their real-world animal equivalents is more complex. While the bug characters such as [[Waspinator (BW)|Waspinator]] and [[Inferno (BW)|Inferno]] are obviously scaled-up, other characters are more subtly not quite the right size.

[[Cheetor (BW)|Cheetor]] and [[Tigatron]] are shown standing next to real members of their species, and they are both the same size as the animals in question. {{storylink|Beast Wars (Part 1)}} {{storylink|Law of the Jungle}} This makes them (and Cheetor in particular, since he's around more) the measuring sticks for the other characters. Therefore, [[Rhinox (BW)|Rhinox]] is a rather small rhinoceros, and [[Optimus Primal]] is a roughly normal (or female) gorilla. However [[Rattrap]] is a monstrously huge rat, the size of a Labrador dog (indeed, the writers stated that Season 1 Rattrap was 5' (1.5 m) tall<ref>[http://groups.google.com/group/alt.toys.transformers/msg/8227a6ca84c0238d Bob Forward gives Rattrap's height from the show bible]</ref>). Likewise [[Dinobot (BW)|Dinobot]] is considerably larger than a real velociraptor. [[Megatron (BW)|Megatron]], however, is a pitifully tiny specimen of a T. Rex. In their interactions with adult [[protohuman]]s, the Transformer characters seem between twice and three times their height. Considering our ancestors really were smaller than modern humans, this is not extremely wrong, but it deserves noting.

However, thanks to the scaling up of the arthropod characters, it is relatively safe to assume that the Transformers scanned only animal ''forms'' and then rescaled them to fit their own size, which is actually slightly more believable than all other series, in which the Transformers use mass shifting to make their alt modes the ''right'' size.

Some scale problems are for the sake of characterization. For example, Optimus Prime is routinely shown as thoroughly gargantuan, several stories in height, and capable of cradling humans in his palm. If he's the size of a real truck, Prime in robot mode should be 8–10 m (25'–30') tall, at best. He's drawn large because he's a leader character.

Conversely, [[Bumblebee (G1)|Bumblebee]] is sometimes shown only a few feet taller than an average human, while in reality he would be 3–5 m (10'–15') tall (the Marvel comic actually states he's 15' tall {{storylink|Plight of the Bumblebee!}}). He's drawn small because he's a human-friendly character, and a junior member of the Autobots.

With fighter jet alternate modes, the [[Seeker (body-type)|Seekers]] should be among the largest everyday Transformers and would ''tower'' over their Autobot adversaries; instead, the animation depicts characters such as [[Thundercracker (G1)|Thundercracker]] and [[Wheeljack (G1)|Wheeljack]] as about the same height. Though jets are much larger than cars, they're drawn the same height so the battles appear fair. (And also to make it easier to animate; blocking a shot where characters differ radically in height is difficult.)

In a related vein, sometimes Transformers are able to enter human buildings, fitting through their doors and running up their staircases without crashing through. {{storylink|B.O.T. Sometimes artists draw a character at a different size [[Authorial intent|intentionally]]. For example, on the cover of the [[The Transformers (issue)|first issue]] of [[The Transformers (Marvel comic)|the original ''Transformers'' comics series]], Optimus Prime is extremely huge compared to the highway, bridge, and normal cars. ([[Laserbeak (G1)|Laserbeak]] is bigger than usual, too.) This is purely for dramatic effect.

Another notable example is the splash screen for the "[http://www.takaratomy.co.jp/products/TF/bible/index.html World of the TRANSFORMERS]" website, which depicts [[Optimus Primal]] (in his original gorilla body) as the same size as [[Optimus Prime (G1)|G1 Optimus Prime]] and [[Optimus Prime (Movie)|Movie Optimus Prime]], directly contradicting the size difference seen in "[[Optimal Situation]]" and elsewhere (except for ''[[Robot Masters (franchise)|Robot Masters]]'').

The creators of the [[Transformers (2007)|live-action movie]] took great pains to avoid out-of-scale issues. (Well, greater than previous franchises.) This is sometimes reflected in the choice of vehicle or the design of their robot mode. E.g., [[Optimus Prime (Movie)|Optimus Prime]] is an extended-hood cab in order to have more mass with which to make a taller robot mode. [[Starscream (Movie)|Starscream]]'s robot mode is nearly as wide as it is tall, with shorter, digitigrade legs, so the massive jet-former won't end up twice as tall as Optimus. In the case of [[Blackout (Movie)|Blackout]], his huge alternate mode simply results in a hulking, towering robot mode.

There are still minor scale issues to be found, though. For example, Optimus Prime can hold both [[Sam Witwicky|Sam]] and [[Mikaela Banes|Mikaela]] in one hand. Comparing this shot with when he picks up [[Archibald Witwicky]]'s glasses a few minutes later, it seems the glasses have lenses a foot (30cm) in diameter. This is a visual cheat so the glasses are visible to the audience. There's also debate about whether [[Frenzy (Movie)|Frenzy]]'s head could compact itself into a slim mobile phone. The [[Movie (toyline)|movie-franchise toys]], meanwhile, are only intermittently consistent (particularly since some of the secondary ones are redecos of toys from previous lines), with the largest contrast among the "primary" toys being between Deluxe Class [[Arcee (Movie)|Arcee]], a motorcycle, and Voyager Class Decepticons with helicopters as their [[Alternate mode|alternate modes]], such as [[Blackout (Movie)|Blackout]] and [[Incinerator (Movie)|Incinerator]]. However, many of the wheeled vehicles are close to 1:35 scale, although Deluxe Class [[Jazz (Movie)|Jazz]] and Classic Camaro [[Bumblebee (Movie)/toys|Bumblebee]] are ''obviously'' not the same scale. Even more oddly, the vehicle modes of Classic Camaro Bumblebee and Concept Camaro Bumblebee are not the same scale, yet their robot heads are the same size (albeit different sculpts).

''Some time later, it was salvaged by Shockwave, who brainwashed it and unleashed it on [[Galvatron (G1)|Galvatron]], a recreated future version of Megatron who had traveled back in time from the year 2006 and posed a threat to Shockwave's leadership. The clone Megatron, however, saw a possible partner in Galvatron, and the two teamed up to battle Autobots and Decepticons from both present and future in the apocalyptic [[Time Wars]]. While Megatron's [[Micromaster]] [[Air Strike Patrol]] created a diversion which pitted Optimus Prime's forces against [[Scorponok (G1)|Scorponok]]'s, Megatron sent his Micromaster [[Sports Car Patrol]] to capture Ratchet from the Ark, bringing him to [[Megatron's base|his base]] on [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]]. {{storylink|Back from the Dead}} Threatening Ratchet with the destruction of the Ark and all of his patients aboard, Megatron forced him to recreate Starscream as a [[Pretender]]. Ratchet did so, but also restored [[Grimlock (G1)|Grimlock]], [[Jazz (G1)|Jazz]] and [[Bumblebee (G1)|Bumblebee]] in the same manner, thwarting Megatron's scheme, and also bringing the explosives on board the Ark through a [[Trans-Time Dimensional Portal|trans-time dimensional portal]] into Megatron's base. When Megatron then attempted to flee through the portal, Ratchet tackled him as the Decepticon's base exploded around them, apparently killing them both. {{storylink|Skin Deep}}

Soon after, however, Autobot detective [[Nightbeat (G1)|Nightbeat]] discovered that the explosion had actually blown them through the portal, and he dispatched a probe to pull them back from the gaps between reality. However, when they rematerialized, it was revealed that the explosion had fused the two enemies together, into a hideous, twisted mockery of a being, which ran rampant through the Ark. The half that was Ratchet begged Optimus Prime to kill them, but Prime could not, and had the Micromaster [[Fixit (G1)|Fixit]] separate their bodies. Unfortunately, Fixit could not separate their minds, as they were bonded at a molecular level; one could not survive without the other. {{storylink|The Pri¢e of Life!}}

Their separated bodies lay in the Ark's medbay until Grimlock pumped them full of [[Nucleon]], though the revitalizing effect took some time to help Ratchet and Megatron come to. Megatron awoke to find [[Galvatron II]], another version of him from the future, wandering the halls of the Ark as it returned to Earth. Galvatron II, driven to insanity, initially tried to kill Megatron to purge the memory of him that haunted his mind. Megatron was in no state to comprehend what was going on around him, and began interpreting Galvatron II's blows as coming from Ratchet.

Though Galvatron II and Megatron eventually came to terms with each other while beating up Shockwave (he and Starscream had stolen the ship), vowing to join forces and take over the galaxy, Ratchet doomed them all by igniting the Ark's engines and spiraling the Autobot spacecraft into the Earth below. Megatron held the rank of Headmaster and served as joint leader with his rival Shockwave. Together, they worked out that hijacking the oil reserves of [[Alaska]] would make more sense than hitting oil refineries, and battled the Autobots to seize the Alaskan oil. Megatron ordered his forces to ensure not a single Decepticon was downed, or they'd be overrun and forced to retreat. And they ''did'' retreat! {{storylink|Transformers Comic-Magazin issue 2|Attack at Dawn}}

He had the more fiendish plan of making peace gestures to Humanity, and made a public speech in [[New York City]] of how the Decepticons would now agree to live peacefully under human laws (adding in the threat that humanity couldn't ''make'' them do it). As a gesture, a "statue" of [[Snaptrap]] was placed in New York, and he promised Decepticons would help patrol the city, assist in human space programs, and help "secure" oil reserves. Unsurprisingly, once Humanity was off-guard, the Decepticons struck, and the Autobots barely stopped them. {{storylink|Transformers Comic-Magazin issue 4|The Troy Principle}}

A more standard plan involved seizing an oil tanker, in order to distract the Autobots from sudden blitzkrieg strikes across America. Megatron had three nuclear missiles stolen and threatened to nuke New York, Berlin, and Moscow if he was not given one million tons of oil! His demands were met...and he threatened to nuke the same cities unless the world's arsenal was handed over! At the same time, he had Starscream made into a [[Pretender]] to kill Shockwave for him. When both an oil tanker crashed at Alaska ''and'' an interdimensional portal ripped open, Megatron—now holding Powermaster rank!—naturally decided the tanker was more important. Trapped in non-transforming Action Master bodies, Grimlock and the Dinobots snuck a shuttle to [[Hydrus Four]], where rumor had it a new, less destructive brand of [[Nucleon]] had been developed. However, the allegedly defeated Decepticons were waiting for just such a trip, and followed the Dinobots to the planet's surface, where they were ambushed and captured. Grimlock woke up to hear endless chants of "Megatron! Megatron! Megatron!" as technicians had strung up the late Decepticon leader's body, culled from his supposed doom on Earth, for repairs. Bludgeon would revive him and revive their fallen, and then the war would begin anew.

But Bludgeon wouldn't get the chance. The cavalry arrived, and Optimus Prime's Autobots quickly quelled the Decepticons' would-be resurgence. As Bludgeon was taken to pieces by a vicious repair spider, a partially-restored Megatron, a visual monstrosity, lunged half-alive at Grimlock and Optimus Prime. With a double-teamed punch, Megatron's undead corpse was easily defeated. The war was truly over. {{storylink|Another Time and Place}}

Although thought dead for a year or two, Megatron had actually survived the Ark crash (though his mental link with Ratchet was forgotten), and had quietly worked to repair it, concealing it beneath the ground. From there, Megatron tracked a signal, mistakenly believing it was another Transformer, but instead he found the shape-shifting castle of the terrorist organization, [[Cobra]]. He entered into a bargain with its leader, [[Cobra Commander]], offering him the technology of the Ark in exchange for the new weapons his organization was developing. {{storylink|Realignments}} Reconstructed into a new tank body with a powerful rail gun, Megatron defeated a squad of Autobots sent to stop him, and then turned on Cobra, capturing the scientist who had developed his gun, [[Dr. Sidney Biggles-Jones]] and escaping in the Ark. {{storylink|Final Transformations}}

Both [[Skydive (G1 Aerialbot)|Skydive]] and [[Spike Witwicky (G1)|Spike Witwicky]] had snuck on board, and following a clearly one-sided battle with Spike's [[Headmaster (technology)|Headmaster partner]], [[Fortress Maximus (G1)|Fortress Maximus]], Megatron was seemingly killed again when Fortress Maximus threw himself into the Ark's power core, destroying it once and for all. {{storylink|All or Nothing!}} But Megatron (and a repaired Starscream) rejoined the Decepticons on Earth to challenge the current Decepticon leader, Bludgeon. {{storylink|The Power and the Glory}} Bludgeon was deposed, fatally, though Megatron continued many of the Pretender's ongoing projects, such as calling the attentions of Optimus Prime to Earth by indiscriminately rampaging across it. When Prime finally showed up, Megatron's old foe at first attempted to talk and join forces against the new threat of [[Jhiaxus (G2)|Jhiaxus]] and his [[Cybertronian (faction)|Advanced-Decepticons]], but Megatron ignored him, ripped the [[Creation Matrix]] from his chest, and left to infuse a new generation of warriors with life. {{storylink|The Gathering Darkness}} His warriors proved to be highly successful, and helped Megatron secure the galvanizing additive known as [[Rheanimum]]. Immediately thereafter, however, Megatron's Decepticons came into conflict with Jhiaxus's forces. In order to gain revenge, Megatron entered into an alliance with the Autobots to "put their house in order". He was forced to deal with Prime's more altruistic streak, but toughed it out for the sake of the alliance. {{storylink|Escalation!}} But, of course, they were betrayed by Starscream, who joined forces with Jhiaxus' troops, alerted Jhiaxus to the location of the Autobot/Decepticon camp on Earth, and then again betrayed both sides by using the opportunity to steal the Creation Matrix and Megatron's [[Warworld]]. {{storylink|Total War!}} Starscream, using the powers of the Matrix, fused himself with the Warworld, which gave Megatron and Optimus Prime great difficulty as they fought their way through its shifting insides. {{storylink|Dark Shadows!}} Ultimately, Starscream relinquished the Creation Matrix to Optimus Prime when it was discovered that the artifact was making him nice, allowing Megatron to load a ship with canisters of [[Rheanimum]] gas and head back to Earth, where the [[Swarm (G2)|Swarm]] was beginning its attack. Megatron arrived just in time to coat the remaining Transformers with the gas, which protected them from the Swarm long enough for Optimus Prime to defeat the Swarm with the Matrix. Fifteen years had passed since Megatron supposedly died along with Shockwave, Starscream, and Ratchet when the Ark crashed violently into the Yukon. The defeated Decepticon army scattered, and the Autobots were able to return to a peaceful Cybertron.

Inexplicably, Megatron returned (in a new body) and once again stalked the Earth, rallying the remaining Decepticons to him. Megatron rebuilt many of these Decepticons using altered specifications created by [[Shockwave (G1)|Shockwave]], shortly before Megatron presumably had Shockwave decommissioned in an unspecified way. Eventually, Megatron, roaming free, stumbled across [[Skyfall (Cybertron)|Skyfall]] and [[Landquake (Timelines)|Landquake]], who had travelled from [[Unicron Trilogy|their universe]] in a fantastic energon/forcefield explosion, but his evil intentions for them were interrupted by human-piloted [[Armored Robot Hunters]] (or RUNTs) and subsequently a small team of Autobots led by Optimus Prime. {{storylink|Crossing Over: Part 1}}

Megatron managed to escape with Landquake and return with him to the Decepticons' base of operations, where he had Landquake restrained, interrogated, and inspected. Megatron was intrigued by Landquake's claims of being from another dimension. He was further intrigued by a radiation wavelength signature detected in South America that exactly matched Landquake's readouts, and so Megatron led his Decepticons to the source of the signature. {{storylink|Crossing Over: Part 2}} There, he encountered not only a fleet of jet-piloting RUNTs, but also the Autobots again. Megatron was responsible for bringing Cybertron out of its [[Golden Age]] when he re-started the Autobot/Decepticon civil war nine million years ago. Among his first actions was the fatal wounding of a young dock worker named Orion Pax, who was rebuilt to become Megatron's mortal enemy, [[Optimus Prime (G1)/Generation 1 cartoon continuity|Optimus Prime]].

Megatron's forces boarded the Autobots' spacecraft when it was on a mission to search for new sources of energy on other planets, and was knocked offline like all the other Transformers when the craft crashed on prehistoric Earth. When both factions reawakened in 1984, Megatron made it his mission to pillage all of Earth's natural resources and enslave its populace, with the goal of revitalizing Cybertron and dominating the entire universe. His plans were by turns cunning, wicked, outrageous, and often, utterly, utterly ludicrous.

In 2005, Megatron faced off with Optimus Prime in a battle at [[Autobot City]], during which he fatally wounded the Autobot leader, but not without taking severe damage himself. Cast adrift into space, Megatron was found by the planet-eater, [[Unicron]], and recreated as [[Galvatron (G1)|Galvatron]].

In other timelines which branch out of this one, Megatron became a [[Transmetal]], ordered the [[murdered puppy|murder of a puppy]], and years after his transformation into Galvatron, became Megatron once again, in various powered-up forms.

As Decepticon leader, Megatron was part of the forces that attacked the Autobot Ark while it was trying to eliminate asteroids that threated to smash [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]] to pieces. The Ark crashed on [[Earth]], and four million years later, the Decepticons were first to be woken by the ship's computer. Leaving the ship, they attempted to destroy it, but their energy levels were too low, and Megatron announced they'd have to find new sources of energy. After raiding the nuclear plant at nearby [[Kimball]], they returned to the Ark, only to find it empty. He ordered his men to split up and go in two different directions, and hence they were able to outflank the Autobots. The battle was short-lived, as the Autobots proved too much for them, and the Decepticons retreated. {{storylink|Battle for Cybertron}}

A bunch of humans set up a race for charity, and the victor would receive a year's supply of oil and gasoline. Well, the Decepticons desperately wanted that bounty, so rather than just steal it, they decided to sneak into the race. [[Cliffjumper (G1)|Cliffjumper]] was one of the Autobots driving in the rally and was unaware that the scary black Cadillac was actually being driven by Megatron! Megatron dogged Cliffjumper for quite a while but ended up losing to the Minibot. Cliffjumper won the race and everybody smiled, even Optimus Prime. {{storylink|The Great Car Rally}}

After a particularly damaging battle, Megatron sent the [[Seeker (body-type)|Seeker]]s to distract the Autobots while he took a small squad to capture a broken-down oil truck nearby, claiming it would allow them to defeat the Autobots once and for all. While he and his men were implementing the plan, somehow [[Sunstreaker (G1)|Sunstreaker]] sneaked up and got the truck working again. Megatron furiously pursued the truck and managed to seize it from behind. Suddenly [[Swoop (G1)|Swoop]] appeared overhead and Megatron proved unable to shoot him down. The [[Dinobot (G1)|Dinobot]] dropped a bomb on the group of Decepticons, reducing them to a pile of metal scrap. An automated signal summoned a [[Decepticon rescue squadron|rescue squadron]], who arrived a short time later to retrieve the remains of Megatron and his men. {{storylink|Decepticon Hijack}}

Megatron set his sights on raiding a power plant, and promised his men that whoever came up with a fool-proof plan would be made Decepticon [[second-in-command]]. He was pleased when [[Kickback (G1)|Kickback]] informed him that [[Grapple]] had been captured, and even more so when [[Bombshell (G1)|Bombshell]] arrived back at base with the [[cerebro-shell]]ed Autobot. Megatron instructed Grapple to come up with a plan to steal the energy in the power plant. When the rest of the Autobots turned up to rescue their friend, Megatron took the opportunity to gloat before battle commenced. With the discovery of a new super energy source known as the [[Blackball]]s, Megatron found himself joined by numerous Decepticons from all across the timestream, all hoping to obtain the ebony spheres. Naturally, oposing him were a team of Autobots, also gathered from all across the timestream.

In one confrontation with his eternal foe, Optimus Prime, Megatron got to relive their battle at Autobot City. Except this time around, Megatron was defeated when Prime launched his "Matrix Attack" (''literally'' launching the Matrix from his chest, bonking Megatron on the noggin). {{storylink|Transformers PD Type##1 "You're Great! Later, [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream]] managed to find what he ''thought'' was a Blackball. He presented it to Megatron and received much praise...until the Blackball turned out to be a cartoon bomb which exloded in their faces. During battle with [[Victory Leo]], Megatron found himself horribly outmatched. Thinking quickly, he launched a special weapon from his fusion cannon: a ball of yarn. In the year [[199X]], the Decepticons had learned of a powerful new energy source known as [[forestonite]] which just happened to be located (surprise surprise) on [[Earth]]. Megatron sent his trio of [[Cyberjet|Cyberjets]] to Earth first to draw out the enemy Autobots. The Cyberjets made quick work of [[Electro]] but were soon halted by the appearance of Optimus Prime.

Megatron then entered the fray and fired his Black Hole Burn attack from his fusion cannon, narrowly missing Optimus Prime but vaporizing [[Hooligan (G2)|Hooligan]] in the process. Prime fought fiercely but Megatron began to take the upper hand in battle.

However, Prime was encouraged to keep fighting by the cheers of a human boy named [[Junpei]]. Megatron, surprised at Prime's resilience, attempted to finish his foe off with his Tornado Axe attack. Prime countered with his Double Wheel-Torque Mega-Ton, which trumped Megatron's attack and injured the Decepticon badly. After the Autobot/Decepticon war moved to Earth, Megatron hunted down the [[Voyager probe]] as it traveled through the [[Solar System]] and encoded a message on its disc. Should his efforts fail, he left detailed instructions to any Decepticon descendants who recovered the disc, instructions which apparently condoned use of [[transwarp]] technology to alter history in his favor by locating the [[Ark (G1)|Ark]] before it was reactivated, with access codes to the Ark stored in the disk, and killing Optimus Prime before the Autobots and Decepticons reawaken. {{storylink|The Agenda (Part 2)}}

The original Megatron himself was stranded in Earth's past on board the Ark, offline. Before long, Predacon Megatron was able to approach the comatose body of his namesake and steal his [[spark]], integrating it into his own system. Almost immediately, however, during Predacon Megatron's painful reaction to this integration, he was thrown into a pool of lava by his treacherous underlings. In spite of—or perhaps because of—this, Predacon Megatron emerged from the lava, with a new body that could now transform into a fire-breathing dragon. Young Megatron was a rising star in gladiatorial combat in the depths of [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]]. As victory upon victory mounted, he began to realize that the games were nothing more than an elaborate conspiracy by the [[Council of Ancients]] to divert the attentions of the masses from the dangerous truth of Cybertron’s history. When Megatron began to show interest in Cybertron's buried past through exploration and research, the Council of Ancients attempted to have him assassinated—a plan that only resulted in stirring up even more discontent among Cybertronians, allowing Megatron to begin recruiting for the Decepticon movement.

First his "inner circle", then many of the gladiators, and then finally disgruntled civilians answered his call to action. The Decepticons were born. {{storylink|The Route of All Evil}}

In search of the [[Matrix of Leadership|Autobot Matrix]], Megatron personally killed [[Sentinel Prime (G1)|Sentinel Prime]], only to find that the Autobot leader was not even carrying the Matrix of Leadership. He then sent an assassination squad to the inauguration of the new [[Prime (rank)|Prime]], [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus]], only for the whole squad to be killed. {{storylink|The War Within issue 1|The War Within #1}} Refusing to give up, Megatron paid a visit to one of the huge planetary engines which the [[Constructicon (G1)|Constructicon]]s were reactivating, using it to orchestrate a disaster in the destruction of the [[Forum of Enlightenment]], all in order to lure Optimus underground. Megatron sent [[Soundwave (G1)|Soundwave]] and the [[Insecticon (G1)|Insecticon]]s to kill Prime and bring him the Matrix {{storylink|The War Within issue 2|The War Within #2}} As Megatron explained to [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream]] his plan to transform [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]] into a massive warworld that would cut a swathe of destruction through the galaxy, Optimus again defeated the Decepticons sent against him.

Roughly 7.4 million years BCE, Megatron and Optimus Prime disappeared in an early test of the then-unstable [[Space Bridge]] matter-transport system. {{storylink|Fragmentation}} Spending an undisclosed time on the planet [[Quintessa]], Megatron returned with an overwhelming army of lifeless [[Air Warrior|seeker clones]], arriving as the planet was on the verge of peace. {{storylink|The Age of Wrath issue 1|The Age of Wrath #1}} He quickly subjugated the planet, though he kept secret the fact that he was working with the Quintessons. Four million years BCE, Cybertron was threatened by a massive approaching asteroid, so Optimus Prime led a contingent of Autobots aboard the [[Ark (G1)|Ark]] to blow the rock to fragments, which were transported away by an orbital Space Bridge network. When this task was completed, Megatron chose this moment to strike, attacking the Ark with his troops. Crippled, the craft flew through one of the Space Bridge portals, and was transported to prehistoric Earth, where it crashed, entombing the occupants in stasis for four million years.

The Autobots and Decepticons were reactivated in 1984, but specific details of their battles in the 1980s and 1990s are unrecorded. In 1999, a Autobot/Human military alliance succeeded in capturing and deactivating the Decepticons. However, the [[Ark II]] spaceship carrying them back to Cybertron exploded shortly after liftoff, and the Transformers were believed destroyed. In actuality, they had been scattered back to Earth, where they lay in [[stasis lock]] across the globe for three years.

This slumber was brought to an end when [[Lazarus|Adam Rook]] (aka Lazarus), a rogue military scientist who had devised a method of controlling Transformers, salvaged many of the fallen Cybertronians and reprogrammed them as mass killing machines, which he then attempted to sell on the black market. Megatron was used to attack and destroy a rebel encampment in South America. Lazarus later demonstrated his voice control of Megatron to a prospective client, however though Megatron obeyed the lesser commands, he would not move when commanded to kneel. {{storylink|Prime Directive issue 1|Prime Directive #1}}

Having sufficiently raised interest, Lazarus held an auction, beginning with Megatron. He was unprepared when the Decepticon leader demonstrated his autonomy, blasting his way out of the bunker. {{storylink|Prime Directive issue 2|Prime Directive #2}} Megatron swiftly put into action a plan to use a [[cyber-virus]] to reformat Earth into a new Cybertron, with Lazarus as its first casualty. As the Autobots arrived, Megatron outlined his plan to Optimus, suggesting that the Autobot leader simply let it happen. Prime declined, however as the two factions fought, the US Military decided to enact [[Operation Clean-Up]] and dropped a bomb on them. {{storylink|Prime Directive issue 3|Prime Directive #3}}

The bomb's energy absorbed by the virus, the Decepticons left the area before the Autobots could recover. Megatron unleashed [[Devastator (G1)|Devastator]] on [[San Francisco]], resulting in mass slaughter and the devastation of the city. The Autobots arrived and engaged the Decepticons in battle, but [[Superion (G1)|Superion]]'s defeat turned the course of the battle towards Autobot defeat. {{storylink|Prime Directive issue 4|Prime Directive #4}} Although Prime took down Devastator, he still fell before Megatron, who took the time to point out how worthless the humans around them were. He again suggested that Optimus join him. {{storylink|Prime Directive issue 5|Prime Directive #5}} The actions of a group of humans, including ramming Megatron with fire engines, inspired the Autobots to fight back. Optimus slammed Megatron to the ground and delivered a beating, but Soundwave's news that the humans had launched a nuke at their battleground in a virtual repeat of the events in Canada, provoked a peal of laughter from Megatron. Several months later. Megatron was subliminally summoned to a remote area in Alaska along with the other Earthbound Transformers. There they battled until Megatron's former second-in-command, [[Shockwave (G1)|Shockwave]], arrived and revealed that in their absence the war on Cybertron had ended. He arrested Megatron, Prime, and their troops as war criminals. Megatron, weakened by battle, was quickly defeated by Shockwave and loaded aboard a shuttle for return to Cybertron, only to have Starscream seize the opportunity to jettison him into space on the return trip. {{storylink|New World Order}} Megatron used the time floating in space to contemplate his existence and the Decepticon goal. Realizing that he had wasted millennia in his feud with Prime, Megatron resolved to once again conquer Cybertron as a means of enhancing the Transformer race and strengthening it from outside threats. His spark within the body of [[Megatron (BW)|Megatron]], Megatron was able to talk the [[Predacon (BW)|Predacon]] leader into a new plan. Once they had broken into the [[Ark (G1)|Ark]] and implanted a fragment of Megatron's spark into Starscream, he was able to use the air warrior to attempt to return his spark to its rightful place. Unfortunately the beast Megatron resisted and overcame Megatron in a war of wills, subsuming the older Megatron. After the [[Beast Wars (event)|Beast Wars]] ended, the [[Maximal]]s returned Megatron's spark to his body. {{storylink|A Meeting of Minds}}

Following yet another fight between Megatron and Starscream, the latter went missing. The discovery that Starscream appeared to be working with the Autobots drove Megatron into a rage, and he unsuccessfully tried to extract the Seeker from the clutches of his foes, only to be beaten off by the Autobots. Starscream later returned of his own accord, claiming to have been feigning amnesia in order to gain access to the Autobot base. Megatron was furious when Soundwave told him that [[Swindle (G1)|Swindle]] was selling Decepticon weapons on the black market. During the gladiatorial matches in the depths of Cybertron, Megatron encountered [[Geosensus]], and mistook him for a potential recruit. When Geosensus revealed he had no offensive capability, Megatron concluded he was a worthless idiot. When [[Cobra]], a ruthless terrorist organization determined to rule the world, found a crashed spaceship full of Transformers in [[stasis lock]], Megatron proved to them that the machines weren't piloted vehicles when he briefly awoke and groaned that he still functioned. Cobra rebuilt the aliens into new vehicles and reprogrammed them to serve Cobra, with the exception of Megatron, who was rebuilt to transform into a Walther P38 handgun, but was only locked in this mode and not reprogrammed. Holstered by [[Cobra Commander]] at all times, the Decepticon mocked Cobra's decisions, such as deciding that [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream]], Megatron's traitorous lieutenant, would serve as the Commander's choice of transport. {{storylink|G.I. Regardless of his complaints, Megatron's only chance to be released from his state was to follow Cobra Commander's orders, such as providing instructions on how to create [[Energon (fuel)|energon]]. Things weren't all bad, though, as he still got some enjoyment out of seeing his nemesis [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]] being forced to steal and destroy. {{storylink|G.I. Joe vs. the Transformers issue 2|G.I. Joe vs. the Transformers #2}} Megatron was also pleased when [[Destro]] showed up and started bossing Cobra Commander around. {{storylink|G.I. When the Transformers were cleared of their reprogramming thanks to [[Wheeljack (G1)|Wheeljack]], Cobra Commander found himself face to face with a very stern Optimus Prime, and tried to use Megatron to shoot the Autobot. However, Megatron was still had some control of his body and strictly refused to fire, instead bargaining with Cobra Commander to return him to normal. The human gave in, and Megatron transformed and clashed with his old enemy. With Prime low on energon, Megatron came out on top, but before he could finish Prime off, Starscream attacked him and tried to take leadership of the Decepticons. Megatron got rid of him, but the distraction had allowed several Autobots to come to Optimus Prime's rescue. {{storylink|G.I. Joe vs. the Transformers issue 4|G.I. Joe vs. the Transformers #4}}

Ignoring Prime to focus on some more long-term plans, Megatron made [[Doctor Mindbender]] use the [[SPS Satellite]] to create large amounts of energon. However, his party was soon crashed when Optimus Prime attacked the facility and used the energon to power up. Finding the situation unsalvageable, Megatron tried to escape while Prime was busy with [[Soundwave (G1)|Soundwave]] and [[Reflector (G1)|Reflector]]. {{storylink|G.I. Joe vs. the Transformers issue 5|G.I. Joe vs. the Transformers #5}} He ran right into [[G.I. Joe (team)|G.I. Joe]], but was unimpressed with their firepower and fought back with his [[energon mace]], possibly killing [[Mercer]]. Things quickly turned for the worse for Megatron; his arm was heavily damaged by a stray beam from the malfunctioning SPS Satellite, he was pounded by G.I. Joe's rockets, and Optimus Prime caught up to him and beat him to a pulp. Prime then stole his [[fusion cannon]] and used it to destroy the satellite and smack Megatron across the jaw, defeating him and ending the battle. After being prematurely activated by Cobra Commander, Serpent O.R. flashbacked to a memory of Megatron's imprisonment and attacked the Cobra leader. Megatron and his underlings lay buried and deactivated under a temple on the [[Fera Islands]] for some three million years, until one day in [[1938]] when they were somehow reactivated by [[Major Bludd]] touching the [[Matrix of Leadership]]. After learning that [[Cobra]], like the Decepticons, were ruthless conquerors in search of power, Megatron allied himself with the humans. However, this was merely a ruse so that he could get his hands on the Matrix, which proved hard as [[Cobra Commander]] kept on his person at all times. Megatron and his troops spent the following year helping Cobra ransack various European nations, stealing energy for themselves while leaving the useless "[[Gold|yellow metal]] and painted paper" for Cobra. In the summer of [[1939]], he took out the aerial defense of the English Channel alongside [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream]] and [[Soundwave (G1)|Soundwave]], clearing the way for an invasion of the [[United Kingdom]]. {{storylink|The Line}}

Hours later at the Fera Islands, Megatron was in the process of beating up Starscream for leaving his post when he spotted an Autobot [[Sky Spy|repair drone]] in the process of reactivating [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]] and his troops. This angered him slightly more than [[Destro]] eyeing his [[energon cube]]s. {{storylink|Transformed}} Deciding that he needed a safer place to store the energy, Megatron commandeered a submarine and forced Cobra troops to move the cubes into it, which did not please Cobra Commander. However, Megatron had decided their alliance had outlived its usefulness anyway, and prepared to squish the fleshling, only to learn the hard way that Cobra Commander could use the Matrix to cause him great pain. As Megatron collapsed, the Cobra leader warned him against ever rebelling again. {{storylink|Trial by Fire (issue)|Trial by Fire}}

The Decepticon commander decided to bide his time, and stood calmly by Cobra Commander's side as their enemies closed in on the Terrordrome. When [[Shockwave (G1)|Shockwave]] refused to follow Cobra Commander's orders, Megatron admonished him in order to further trick the commander that he had learned his lesson. {{storylink|Trenches}} As Cobra Commander's orders led to Shockwave breaking apart, Megatron suggested that he be given the Matrix so he could repair his underling. Unfortunately for him, Cobra Commander did not fall for it, but Megatron at least got to taunt him for wasting valuable troops like that. Shortly afterwards, [[Bruticus (G1)|Bruticus]] was unleashed, causing a rockslide that crushed Cobra Commander's legs, despite his orders for Megatron to shield him. Instead, Megatron "humbly" suggested that the commander use his gun mode as a means of ending his life. Cobra Commander could not go through with it, but Megatron was simply picked up by the [[Baroness]], who executed her former leader. Free at last, the Decepticon leader went after the Matrix, only to find it had been stolen by [[Snake-Eyes]]. Before he could kill the ninja, [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]] arrived and attacked him, keeping him at bay while Snake-Eyes destroyed the Matrix in an attempt to destroy Bruticus, killing all the Transformers in the process. {{storylink|The Iron Fist}}

Long ago, before the war, Megatron was an [[Energon (fuel)|energon]] miner, a member of the lower class, in [[Mining Outpost C-12]]. One day [[Decimus|Senator Decimus]] arrived at the mine to announce that the mine was being closed immediately and the workers would be relocated. However, one of the Senator's guards killed a worker for insubordination and claims of Senate corruption, which spurred Megatron into action. He attacked Senator Decimus and killed the guard in self-defense, and was shocked to find he had done so. He and the other miners were en route to imprisonment when [[Rumble (G1)|Rumble]] and [[Frenzy (G1)|Frenzy]] broke free and started a riot aboard [[Longshot|their ship]]. They quickly overpowered their guards, damaged Decimus' ship to ward off pursuit, as the authorities would focus on his rescue, and made their way to [[Kaon]]. {{storylink|Megatron Origin issue 1|Megatron Origin #1}}

After evading law enforcement, Megatron joined a team of underworld gladiators under the tutelage of [[Clench (G1)|Clench]]. Initially repulsed by killing his opponents, the games eventually turned him more brutal and excessive, and he took control of the entire operation from Clench. The opportunistic Senator [[Ratbat (G1)|Ratbat]], after seeing how much money there was in the underworld matches, sent his agent [[Soundwave (G1)|Soundwave]] to offer Megatron weaponry and technology to upgrade himself and his comrades. {{storylink|Megatron Origin issue 2|Megatron Origin #2}} [[Sentinel Prime (G1)|Sentinel Prime]]'s Autobots were sent to investigate the gladiatorial games, but when two Autobots were personally killed by Megatron, Prime's forces stepped up their pursuit. Megatron used the gladiatorial games to drum up an army of violent malcontents and spread chaos throughout Cybertron. He then deliberately allowed Sentinel Prime's forces to capture his burgeoning army, {{storylink|Megatron Origin issue 3|Megatron Origin #3}} so that [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream]] (pretending to defect) and Soundwave and his hidden cassette army could exterminate the Kaon Senate and then free every last prisoner. Megatron led the army of prisoners against the Autobots, beat Sentinel Prime nearly to death, and took control of Kaon. {{storylink|Megatron Origin issue 4|Megatron Origin #4}}

Megatron's infamy spread and his message of rising up against the ruling classes struck a chord with many disenfranchised Cybertronians. One such fellow was [[Drift (G1)|Drift]], who attended a Decepticon rally and was personally asked by Megatron to fight at his side. Megatron rechristened Drift as "Deadlock" and welcomed him into the Decepticon fold. When Deadlock eventually deserted the cause, Megatron sent the bounty hunter [[Lockdown (G1)|Lockdown]] to bring him back. {{storylink|Drift issue 2|Drift #2}}

Over time, the war between Megatron's Decepticon army and [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]]'s Autobots covered the entire planet and soon beyond to the rest of the galaxy. Optimus grew to respect and fear Megatron as a calm, calculating and measured opponent, while Megatron himself respected Prime's sheer power and his skill as a tactician and as a leader. {{storylink|Escalation issue 5|Escalation #5}} Megatron also constructed [[Sixshot]], a living weapon with frightening amounts of power that only he had the "off-switch" for. {{storylink|Devastation issue 5|Devastation #5}} Megatron would then go on to develop a six-stage [[infiltration protocol]] to be used for conquering targeted planets, and selected Sixshot and the similarly ultra-powerful Overlord and [[Black Shadow]] to be the agents who would strike the final blow in each battle. {{storylink|Last Stand of the Wreckers issue 2|Last Stand of the Wreckers #2}} As the Autobot/Decepticon war progressed, the conflict became so great that it created an impending energy crisis and threatened the stability of [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]] itself. When [[Shockwave (G1)|Shockwave]] left Cybertron, secretly pursuing alternate energy sources, Megatron ordered [[Bludgeon (G1)|Bludgeon]] to investigate his files, secretly assigning Soundwave to investigate Bludgeon. {{storylink|Spotlight: Shockwave}}

Later, a Decepticon scientist, [[Thunderwing (G1)|Thunderwing]], came to Megatron with a revolutionary, controversial plan to stave off this energy death by [[Pretender|polydermal grafting]], a process where they encased themselves in "symbiotic carapaces", or shells created from living tissue. When Megatron dismissed him angrily and cut him down, Thunderwing did not abandon his research, but instead experimented on himself. As a result, Thunderwing became so powerful that Megatron had to join forces with Optimus Prime to stop him. This battle at [[Thunderhead Pass]] accelerated the apocalypse destined to befall Cybertron, leaving it an uninhabitable, radioactive husk and forcing both armies to continue their war on other worlds. Megatron advocated that they simply destroy Cybertron to ensure that Thunderwing was destroyed, but Prime refused, and threatened to stop Megatron if he tried. Megatron agreed not to destroy the planet, but warned Prime that whatever happened was on his head. Shortly after the last big push by the Decepticons, Cybertron was abandoned by both factions.

Seven hundred [[Units of time|stellar cycles]] later, in current times, it was discovered that as a result of digging through Shockwave's files, Bludgeon had resurrected Thunderwing's dangerous project, as well as Thunderwing himself. After being informed of Thunderwing's attack on [[Nebulos]], Megatron dispatched the [[Predacon (G1)|Predacons]] in the ''[[Thanatos]]'' to Cybertron, authorizing [[Razorclaw (G1)|Razorclaw]] to do whatever was necessary to destroy Thunderwing, including the destruction of Cybertron. {{storylink|Stormbringer issue 3|Stormbringer #3}} However, Optimus Prime and the [[Wrecker]]s were able to thwart both Bludgeon and Thunderwing, and so destruction of the planet was averted. {{storylink|Stormbringer issue 4|Stormbringer #4}}

Megatron, meanwhile, was on Earth, investigating Starscream's infiltration team. He discovered that Starscream had stumbled across [[Ore-13]], an incredible energy source which had been [[Spotlight: Shockwave|mysteriously seeded there]], and that the [[Air Commander]] was planning to use it to usurp Megatron's command—this annoyed him, as he had thought they were beyond such power games. {{storylink|Infiltration issue 4|Infiltration #4}} After seriously damaging the hesitantly rebellious [[Skywarp (G1)|Skywarp]] and [[Blitzwing (G1)|Blitzwing]], {{storylink|Infiltration issue 5|Infiltration #5}} Megatron ordered the AWOL team to stand down and then took on a super-powered Starscream. Though the Ore-13 made Starscream a formidable adversary, Megatron was still more deadly than he, and Starscream was destroyed. All throughout, he acted eerily calm & measured and made both Autobot and Decepticon wet themselves in fear. {{storylink|Infiltration issue 6|Infiltration #6}}

Megatron took stock of Starscream's progress on Earth in light of the discovery of Ore-13 and called a meeting to make Starscream's former troops aware, in no uncertain terms, that any further insurrections would be met with deadly force. {{storylink|Escalation issue 1|Escalation #1}} Initiating phase two of infiltration protocol, Megatron stole a prototype [[Psycho-Prism]] from [[Doctor Doom]]'s laboratory. He created an "array" structure in [[Latveria]] as a base of operations. He sent Skywarp and Thundercracker to the nearby country of [[Symkaria]] in hopes they will blame Latveria and start a war. He activated the Psycho-Prism which produced an aggression wave that made nearby humans more aggressive in order to further increase international tensions. {{storylink|Man and Machine, Part One}} Doctor Doom, not appreciating the Decepticons' setting up shop in his country, tried to remove their base with an army of [[Doombot]]s. Megatron had no problem repelling them. {{storylink|Man and Machine, Part Two}}

The [[Avengers]] arrived and Megatron let them enter his facility where he scanned them looking for a suitable sample to leech power from as part of their [[mirror response mode]]. He selected [[Spider-Man]] and captured him. The remaining Avengers retreated and Megatron energized the facilities energy shield. The Autobots arrived and were attacked by the Avengers thanks to their heightened aggression. {{storylink|Man and Machine, Part One}}

Megatron energized himself and all of his troops except Ramjet, who he didn't trust. Outside, the Autobots were able to nullify the aggression wave amongst the Avengers and they teamed up and started attacking the array. Megatron sent out his energized troops to repel the invaders. {{storylink|Man and Machine, Part Two}} Ratchet, Prowl, and [[Luke Cage]] were able to breech the array's defenses. Megatron captured Ratchet and Luke Cage while Ramjet and Megatron's new ally, Doctor Doom captured Prowl. When his forces outside were defeated, Megatron—on the advice of Doctor Doom—sent a holographic message to those outside that he would kill his captives if they did not surrender. They did not surrender and instead renewed their attack. Megatron blamed Doctor Doom for the failure and turned on him.

Megatron did not go through with his threat of killing the hostages. Instead he went out to face his attackers himself, holding Luke Cage. {{storylink|Man and Machine, Part Three}} He was beating the opposition until Prowl, Ratchet, and Spider-Man [[orbital jump|orbital bounced]] out of the facility. They had been freed by Doctor Doom and the two Autobots used the Decepticon equipment to energize themselves with [[Wolverine (superhero)|Wolverine]]'s super power. This added firepower led to his defeat. His Psycho-Prism was destroyed so there was no point in continuing the fight and ordered his troops to retreat using an [[emergency warp-out]]. Megatron himself stuck around awhile hoping to beat someone up, but Spider-Man wrapped him up in webbing, Luke Cage knocked him over, and the Autobots opened fire on him while he was down. He finally warped-out taunting Optimus Prime on the way out. {{storylink|Man and Machine, Part Four}}

After getting the infiltration protocols back on track, Megatron stayed instead of leaving Earth in the hands of a new commander. He decided to try out his new [[Size changing|mass-displacing]] handgun [[Alternate mode|altmode]] and the Ore-13 power. {{storylink|Escalation issue 2|Escalation #2}} He personally took charge of the Decepticon subterfuge in [[Brasnya]], guiding the facsimile of [[Georgi Koska]] in an attempt to escalate an international incident into a full polarizing war, and acting as Koska's personal weapon. (His alt-mode only works when a human is holding and firing him, which left him at a disadvantage against the Autobots, who could simply pin him down in that form. Maybe Megatron just wants to be held.) {{storylink|Escalation issue 3|Escalation #3}}

When Optimus Prime arrived, Megatron transformed and started a full-blown to-the-death melee with his longtime foe for all the nuts and bolts—this surprised Optimus, who accused Megatron of letting the Ore-13 power go to his head and causing him to be "some raging braggart". Even with his fusion cannon disabled almost right away, Megatron gained the upper hand due to his Ore-13 high. Beating his foe down, he squeezed Prime's spark casing and seemingly killed him; {{storylink|Escalation issue 5|Escalation #5}} aghast, the Autobots moved into a full but ineffective counterattack, their only edge being that Megatron had no long-range guns left. However, Prime's death was a desperate ruse, and the Autobot leader countered with a surprise attack on Megatron, able to exploit Ore-13's weakness—the more it's used, the faster it burns itself out. Megatron almost collapsed from power loss and was forced to have Skywarp take him to safety before the Autobots could kill him.

Upon returning to base and being refueled and repaired, Megatron was hopping mad. Mad enough to prematurely call in his ultimate living weapon—[[Sixshot]]—despite [[Astrotrain (G1)|Astrotrain]]'s panic attack on hearing that. {{storylink|Escalation issue 6|Escalation #6}}

During this time, he discovered a plot by [[Ramjet (G1)|Ramjet]] to overthrow him. Without saying a word, he beat the living [[Slag (slang)|slag]] out of the attempted traitor. {{storylink|Spotlight: Ramjet}}

Upon Sixshot's arrival, Megatron ordered him to utterly destroy the Autobots, throwing out the methodical "Phase" strategy. The other Decepticons were worried that Megatron was losing his grip—and since they were too scared to tell him that, they decided to revive Starscream to do it for them. {{storylink|Devastation issue 1|Devastation #1}} Before Sixshot could obliterate the Autobots, Megatron recalled him to deal with a new threat—the [[Reaper|Reapers]]. {{storylink|Devastation issue 4|Devastation #4}} Megatron deduced that the other Decepticons betrayed him by awakening Starscream, but decided not to punish them '''yet''', due to the present task of destroying the Reapers. {{storylink|Devastation issue 5|Devastation #5}} After these foes were dead, Megatron was forced to accept Starscream and the others when it became clear the humans were aware of them now. {{storylink|Devastation issue 6|Devastation #6}}

Some time later, the Autobots were led into a trap; false information was planted by an [[Sunstreaker (G1)|Autobot traitor]], and they were badly smashed up by the 'Cons, who had created [[Devastator (G1)|Devastator]]. After personally ripping the [[Matrix of Leadership]] out of Optimus Prime's chest, Megatron planned to drop the Autobots into the midst of [[Insecticon swarm|three thousand horrendous things he had created]] on Cybertron. When all but Prime had gone through the space bridge, Prime grabbed Blitzwing's gun and somehow saved the other Autobots from certain death, closing the portal. Optimus was critically injured by the space bridge, which fried his circuits. {{storylink|All Hail Megatron issue 7|All Hail Megatron #7}} This caused Starscream's status among the Decepticons and their concern about Megatron to go ''way'' down, with former dissenters like [[Skywarp (G1)|Skywarp]] becoming Megatron fanboys. {{storylink|All Hail Megatron issue 1|All Hail Megatron #1}} By use of Sunstreaker's input with Starscream and Bombshell's experimentation on [[Hunter O'Nion]], Megatron was able to defeat [[Omega Supreme (G1)|almost]] all the Autobots in the galaxy...

A year after the defeat of Optimus, Megatron decided to take Earth and make it the new Decepticon homeworld. {{storylink|All Hail Megatron issue 6|All Hail Megatron #6}} Using Sunstreaker, he led the Autobots into an ambush, defeating Optimus' squad and banishing them to Cybertron to be food for the Swarm {{storylink|All Hail Megatron issue 8|All Hail Megatron #8}}, three thousand failed experiments, born during an attempt to create the Insecticons. {{storylink|All Hail Megatron issue 7|All Hail Megatron #7}} He arrived on the front lines as the Decepticons attacked [[New York City]], humiliating Starscream by outdoing him in destroying things with just one shot from his fusion cannon. When the US Air Force responded with an F-22 squad, as a show of force Megatron had Soundwave disable the human's missile targeting, followed by the Decepticons just standing there shrugging off bullets before making their attack. After one jet was damaged by Skywarp, [[DJ (G1)|its pilot]] attempted to take out Megatron with a suicide run, but the Decepticon leader calmly swatted the incoming plane, causing it to explode. As flames rose from the wreckage, Megatron emerged, completely undamaged, laughing maniacally. {{storylink|All Hail Megatron issue 1|All Hail Megatron #1}} Megatron continued to direct the Decepticon assault on New York, dispatching [[Frenzy (G1)|Frenzy]] to mop up the U.S. Army's ground forces and ordering the [[Constructicon (G1)|Constructicons]] to combine into [[Devastator (G1)|Devastator]] and destroy the underwater tunnels leading out of the city. {{storylink|All Hail Megatron issue 2|All Hail Megatron #2}}

His plan executed flawlessly, the Decepticons continued their assault on the major cities of the United States, disabling or nullifying any attempt by the army or navy to counterattack. As he surveyed his handiwork in New York, he ordered Hook and the Constructicons to begin building ''something'' in the once-great human city and appreciated their "sacrifice" in using "substandard" building materials. Soon thereafter he was joined by Starscream, with whom he had a heart to heart and revealed he believed Starscream to be the embodiment of the Decepticon cause, but that Starscream was blind to realizing this. {{storylink|All Hail Megatron issue 3|All Hail Megatron #3}}

When the humans had fallen, Megatron made a propaganda speech to his men in the ruins of New York. He heaped great praise on their efforts, both on Earth and across the galaxy, announcing they had finally crushed the Autobots for good. {{storylink|All Hail Megatron issue 4|All Hail Megatron #4}} After making this speech (and dispatching Ratbat to attack a small group of mercenaries led by [[Spike Witwicky (G1)|Commander Witwicky]]), Megatron entered one of the "buildings" to gaze at his newly prized possession... the Autobot Matrix of Leadership that he stole from Optimus. {{storylink|All Hail Megatron issue 5|All Hail Megatron #5}}

That praise turned out to be empty, as Starscream started noticing that Megatron didn't have a plan now victory had been achieved, and the smashy-smash fun on Earth was him trying to distract the troops—because now he had an army of evil sociopathic murderers with nothing to murder and a doctrine of taking power. Not even smashing up [[Israel]] made him feel better. {{storylink|All Hail Megatron issue 6|All Hail Megatron #6}} Eventually, Starscream made his move, revealing to Megatron that he had swayed the Insecticons to his side. Megatron easily swatted the insects aside, however, and explained to Starscream that he had known about his plans all along. Unfortunately, he hadn't anticipated Starscream to have rallied the Constructicons backing him up, and found himself having to fight the mighty Devastator. {{storylink|All Hail Megatron issue 10|All Hail Megatron #10}}

As the battle was interrupted by an attack from human jets, Megatron and Starscream put their differences aside momentarily to organize a defense. Megatron was not at all surprised by the attack, as he had planned the invasion—nay, the ''war''—down to the smallest detail. He explained to Starscream that while the Decepticon forces may have no real goal at the moment, he planned to remodel them into something greater after the war was done. Then he was suddenly interrupted by something he ''hadn't'' planned for: the return of the Autobots. After assuring Starscream that he'd be leader someday (just not right now), Megatron confronted Optimus Prime again, accusing the Autobot of coming for his Matrix rather than truly caring about Earth. He also revealed that Prime's supposedly "innocent" humans were planning to nuke New York, killing millions of their own just to get rid of the Decepticons. {{storylink|All Hail Megatron issue 11|All Hail Megatron #11}}

Prime retorted that it wasn't about the humans, it was about the difference between him and Megatron—the difference between Autobots and Decepticons. The two came to blows, and Megatron eventually came out on top by throwing Prime into a building. He ordered the Decepticons to leave Earth, leaving the Autobots to be killed by the humans' nuke... only to be shot in the face by [[Spike Witwicky (G1)|Spike Witwicky]], wielding a powerful weapon reverse-engineered from Cybertronian technology. Injured and disoriented by the blast, Megatron was finished off when Optimus Prime got back up and smashed his face in with his own fusion cannon. As he wanted to ''take'' leadership rather than just have it fall in his hands, Starscream picked up his damaged leader and took him off the planet. {{storylink|All Hail Megatron issue 12|All Hail Megatron #12}}

On board Astrotrain, Megatron was put on life support and was tended to by Soundwave and his cassettes. {{storylink|All Hail Megatron issue 13|Uneasy Lies the Head}}

The Decepticons eventually settled on a desolate asteroid and Megatron spent the next three years in a [[CR chamber|CR tank]]. He was somehow conscious and aware of current events during his recovery. Megatron was forced to simply watch as most of the Decepticon army languished in inactivity and slowly began to unravel under Starscream's leadership. {{storylink|The Transformers issue 7|The Transformers #7}}

Megatron was eventually rebuilt in a new form, secretly biding his time until he decided to re-assume command. When [[Hot Rod (G1)|Rodimus]] infiltrated the Decepticons' asteroid base and recovered the Matrix from Starscream, Megatron stepped in to intercept the Autobot. Rodimus panicked when coming upon the reborn Decepticon commander and held up the Matrix to try and ward him off. But Megatron simply shot Rodimus at point-blank range, blasting him out into space, Matrix and all. Intent on reestablishing his authority, Megatron then informed Soundwave to gather the other Decepticons so he could address them. {{storylink|Heart Like a Wheel}}

With most of the Autobots in the galaxy defeated, Megatron chafed to end the war quickly. He demanded [[Mirage (G1)|Mirage]] track the last pocket of Autobot resistance down for the Decepticons. The mercenary demanded a majority share in all energon mining operations, a deal which outraged Megatron, until Mirage pointed out it was a small price to pay to end the war. After Optimus Prime surrendered, Megatron demanded the prisoners be executed despite Mirage's promise to spare Autobot lives. When the legendary [[Energon Cube]] was lost to the reaches of space, Megatron led a small team of Decepticons across the galaxy in pursuit. The cube crashed on Earth, in the Japanese town of [[Hoshinochō]], where it shattered into innumerable fragments that were scattered far and wide. To search for the cube shards, Megatron and his Decepticons took on the forms of local vehicles and devices, so they could operate in secret. [[Optimus Prime (G1)#Henkei! Henkei! Bun Bun manga|Optimus Prime]] and his Autobots had also followed the Cube to Earth, and so the Transformers' war continued in secret on this new world. {{storylink|Kingdom of Giants}}

Ten years later, Megatron discovered that the humans had a "secret weapon" of sorts in their quest: They had allied themselves with the human boy [[Akira Kihara]], who possessed the incredible powers of a "[[Booster]]", one of a small number of beings in the universe born with the power to detect and manipulate the energies of the Energon Cube. Seeking the boy's power for his own, Megatron struck, but was repelled when Akira used his powers to their fullest. Alas, Akira overloaded his body and died in the process, and Prime was consumed with guilt. {{storylink|Time of Resurrection}}

One year after the battle for Akira, Megatron received word from [[Astrotrain (G1)#Henkei! Henkei! Bun Bun manga|Astrotrain]] that [[Starscream (G1)#Henkei! Henkei! Bun Bun manga|Bumblebee]] and the Autobots' newest human ally [[Wataru Hoshinoumi]]. At the last moment, Prime appeared to deflect Megatron's blast with a shot of his, and Megatron elected to retreat, transforming to gun mode and collapsing a large chunk of the Star Dome to cover the Decepticons' withdrawal. {{storylink|The Emperor of Destruction Appears!}} Starscream claimed Megatron's advanced age was making him weak, but Megatron suggested that he had another reason for calling retreat... {{storylink|Kingdom of Giants}}

When Starscream struck out on his own, attacking a power plant with the aid of the brainwashed Autobot [[Jetfire (G1)#Henkei! Henkei! Bun Bun manga|Skyfire]], Megatron observed the battle via a recording made by his spy, [[Ravage (G1)#Henkei! Henkei! Bun Bun manga|Ravage]]. The events that unfolded during the conflict confirmed Megatron's suspicions: Wataru was also a Booster! {{storylink|Wataru's Power}} Once again seeking to take the power of a Booster for himself, Megatron tracked Prime and Wataru when they went on a mission to investigate a local relic (in actuality, a cube shard), then struck hard. Taunting Prime with the memory of the last Booster that he had allowed to die, Megatron goaded the Autobot leader into a ferocious battle with their energon-axe and flail. Throughout the duel, Megatron challenged Prime's philosophy and beliefs, eventually striking home with the claim that Prime had hoped to use Wataru's power to defeat him. With Prime's focus broken by this sadly-true accusation, Megatron was able to lay Prime low and seize Wataru, informing the boy that he would not allow him to die like Akira had if he came with him willingly. Naturally, Wataru refused, and activated his powers, forcing Megatron back with a barrier shield; this, Megatron realized, was what had deflected his shot during his first encounter with Wataru, rather than Prime's blast. Wataru used his powers to heal Optimus and power-up his energon axe into a mighty sword, which Prime used to tear a massive gash in Megatron's armor. The explosion that resulted decimated the surrounding countryside, and when Prime and Wataru awoke, Megatron was gone. {{storylink|Optimus Prime's Secret}}

Numerous incarnations of Megatron from throughout the [[multiverse]] were gathered together as the "[[Megatron Aggregate]]" under the leadership of [[Megatron (G1)/Generation 1 cartoon continuity#Alternity|one particular incarnation]] who hailed from a universe where the Autobots had evolved into the hyperdimensional race known as the [[Alternity (species)|Alternity]]. Shackling the power of the trans-time god-beast [[Hytherion]], this Megatron conveyed time-and-space-manipulating powers similar to those of the Alternity upon himself as his different iterations, forging them into one cross-dimensional gestalt-consciousness entity. To battle the Alternity across time and space, the Megatrons copied their methods, projecting their consciousnesses into [[auto-avatar]]s. The Megatron responsible for the scheme took control of a "Premium Le Mans Blue" style auto-avatar, while his first known ally (from an unidentified dimension) possessed a "Silver Blade" body. {{storylink|To Mega Therion}}

The third identified member of the Megatron Aggregate hailed from [[universal stream]] [[Transformers: Mystery of Convoy|Primax 1286:3 Kappa]]. In a "Diamond Black" auto-avatar body, he engaged in battle with "Ultimate Silver" Optimus Prime across two [[universal stream]]s, striking at him from the year 2009. This Megatron was amused when Prime deduced that he had an ulterior motive for operating in that year, and so made him a wager: if he could defeat him in a game of his own choosing, he would answer a question honestly. Megatron proposed manipulating the inhabitants of his home universe in a "game full of death and suffering", and infused a portion of his power through a legion of Decepticons (including his own past self) to be pitted against Prime's lone chosen champion, [[Ultra Magnus (G1)|Ultra Magnus]]. {{storylink|To Die Game!}}

Megatron featured in quite a few [[commercial]]s, mostly advertising other toys:

* He appears in the very first Transformers animation, a commercial announcing the upcoming 1984 comic book. He lands amid a battle on Earth and fires his cannon at incoming Autobots. This appearance uses his pre-cartoon design, with the black helmet and triggered cannon.

* Footage from that commercial, as well as the show's opening credits, was recycled into an early ad for the toyline.

* In the ad for [[Coleco]]'s [[Power Cycle]], Megatron and the Decepticons are raiding a <s>jungle gym</s> power plant. This footage is recycled from the advertisement for the first issue of the comic, and features Megatron's early "black helmet" model.
