While on the run from Sixshot, the Throttlebots come across a mysterious Cybertronian ghost town.

Synopsis
The Throttlebots are stationed on the Orvus Base laboratory orbiting Salvvatan VI, serving as couriers for a top-secret research project, when the base is attacked and destroyed by Sixshot. They escape in a ship as the only survivors of the attack — with Sixshot in hot pursuit — eventually making their way to Salvvatan VIII, which they are surprised to discover has signs of Cybertronian life. They land and make their way into the giant city on the planet, hoping to find someone who can help.

But as they drive through the city they discover it's eerily empty, though there's still supplies of energon available. Their searching and scavenging is eventually cut short when Sixshot catches up with them, and he promises that if they hand over the information on the destroyed lab's research he'll give them a merciful death. The Throttlebots decide to transform and make a break for it again, and Sixshot chases after them.

His robot mode blasters send Chase crashing hard into a wall. He transforms into his tank mode and lands on Freeway, running him over and crushing him, then blasts Wide Load with his turrets. He returns to robot mode and hauls the injured Freeway up, asking him if he's going to talk. All Freeway can do is groan in pain, so he tosses the Throttlebot aside and addresses the remaining three, telling them to come out and face him.

As the three follow his command, Searchlight asks how Sixshot can be back to normal again when he last saw the Decepticon as a zombie on Bhul's moon. Sixshot explains that he traded some of Jhiaxus' technology — specifically the space bridge schematics and failsafe overrides — to Megatron in return for being restored to his normal self.

The Throttlebots tell Sixshot they're determined to go down fighting, and Sixshot starts to boast about how that will cost them, when Rollbar transforms and sideswipes Sixshot's leg, knocking him off balance. Sixshot grabs onto the Throttlebot with a hand, and Rollbar pulls Sixshot along behind him before deliberately crashing them both hard into a wall.

The impact causes an alarm to sound, with a voice calling out about an intruder alert and perimeter breach. Sixshot is distracted and confused for a moment, prompting Searchlight and Goldbug to try to get the jump on him. But the unimpressed Sixshot quickly rounds on and shoots both of them. He then approaches Searchlight and is about to finish him off with a close range headshot when a giant arm emerges from an opening in the city and pounds Sixshot into the ground. To Searchlight's amazement, Sixshot not only survives the impact but manages to stand up again, only to have the city — really Metroplex — transform into robot mode and step on him.

As Searchlight, Goldbug, and Rollbar recover and stare up in amazement at the giant city-bot, Metroplex states that his position has been compromised and they all need to leave. When Rollbar asks why, Metroplex explains that they need to hide, that since they found him there will be others who will come. Rollbar protests that there's a war going on, and that they need Metroplex's help, but the city-bot simply looks away sadly and tells them where they can find a shuttle and supplies. When Goldbug asks what kind of Autobot would abandon his own, Metroplex explains that he has a mission to protect "it", then transforms into a gigantic space vessel and takes off.

As the three Throttlebots head off to try and find the rest of their little group, they speculate what "it" might be. Searchlight has a theory, but refuses to share any details, much to Rollbar's irritation. Meanwhile, back in the impact crater of Metroplex's initial stomp, the crushed and battered Sixshot clenches one of his outstretched hands into a fist...

The 2007 Transformers film was accompanied by one of the largest product blitzes in the history of the Transformers brand. The prominence of the movie allowed Hasbro to push the toy line to new levels of complexity and diversity.

In addition to the standard "main line" figures, several sub-lines were developed. Some, such as the Fast Action Battlers and Cyber Slammers, are aimed at younger users. Others, such as Real Gear Robots and the various role play toys, expand on the plot and concepts of the movie. Furthermore, many stores received various exclusive redecos and multi-packs. Other markets, such as Japan and even Europe, also had their own exclusives.

Virtually all characters of the movie cast received multiple toy incarnations at various price points, from the tiny $4 Legends versions and two-for-$5 Robot Heroes PVCs up to the massive, complex, electronic $80 Ultimate Bumblebee. Given the limited number of Transformers featured in the movie, the toyline naturally contains many additional characters. Many of these are featured in alternate movie-related media, such as prequel comics and video games.

Following the success of the movie toyline, it was expanded with the Power and Premium Series sub-lines, while the subsequent toyline, Transformers Animated, was officially pushed back from late 2007/early 2008 to July 2008.

Toyline
Action figures ("main" line)
Overview
The main line movie figures attempt to emulate the spindly, multi-faceted appearance of the screen characters, succeeding to a remarkable degree. This aesthetic carries over to characters that do not appear in the movie, giving the line a unified appearance. Most alternate forms are realistically styled contemporary Earth vehicles, many of which are licensed replicas.

The main line figures feature an above-average design complexity, with figures such as Deluxe Class Bumblebee. packing an amazing number of moving parts into a small package. Transformations are fairly complex, and tend to capture the movie's visual spectacle of a vehicle flying apart into a thousand pieces as the robots transform. The primary gimmick of the main line is "Automorph Technology", a gimmick by which moving one piece of a toy will in turn move other pieces into their designated positions via hidden gears, furthering the parallel with the movie's visuals.

Many of the vehicle modes' exteriors are formed by thin panels, but limbs and torsos are sufficiently integral to the vehicle-mode panels that they are not shellformers. On some of the toys, these panels swing back on themselves or are otherwise concealed to such an extent that the finished robot gives comparatively little indication that it turns into a vehicle at all -- yet another point of unity with the movie's design aesthetic.

Other noteworthy characteristics of the "main" movie line include a stronger focus on the Legends size class, which was once again available at all major retailers (instead of just at specialty and convenience stores), including toys for all but one of the movie's robot cast (although Legends were later changed from single packs to the "Allspark Battles" two-packs); the "Screen Battles" diorama sets containing minor, more movie-accurate redecos of Deluxe Class toys in nifty diorama sets including PVC figures of some of the movie's human cast (a rarity in Transformers toylines); the Real Gear Robots, a concept originally conceived for the Cybertron line, but then held back because it conveniently tied into a key scene in the movie; and the Premium Series, a mostly collector-aimed lineup of even more movie-accurate redecos of previously released toys of most of the movie's robot cast.

Unfortunately, due to issues of vehicle-mode licensing and the fact that the robot designs are the shared intellectual property of DreamWorks, it is a virtual certainty that the Movie toys will never be made available as redecos in other franchises (bar any movie sequel line) or as convention exclusives. So get 'em while the getting's good!

Real Gear Robots
Premium Series
Notable international variants
Even though the Movie toyline differed from previous Transformers toylines insofar as TakaraTomy's Japanese versions of the toys were almost identical to their Hasbro counterparts (as a matter of fact, the Japanese "mainline" toys even came in Hasbro packaging, with additional Japanese stickers on the packaging identifying them as the Japanese versions), there were a few genuine variants - and on top of that, one of those variants was also released in the United Kingdom, making it the first shared Japanese/European "variant" toy since red Armada Powerlinx Thrust.

UK variants
* Nightwatch Optimus Prime (Leader Class; missing the US version's "Allspark Power" blue paint and coming in slightly different packaging)

Japanese variants
* Most of the initial decos of the Real Gear Robots (Speed Dial 800, Spy Shot 6, Power Up VT6, Longview and Zoom Out 25X) featured different stickers in Japan, depicting scenes involving the Movie cast rather than screenshots from the Cybertron cartoon, and replacing the time index "7:47" (hinting at the US release date of the movie, July 4th) with "8:04" (as the movie wasn't released in Japan until August 4th).
* MA-03 Bumblebee (Deluxe Class Classic Camaro; using clear blue plastic for the windows with painted over yellow car parts, instead of the US version's yellow plastic with tampographed blue windows)
* MA-18 Nightwatch Optimus Prime (Leader Class; identical to the UK version)
* MA-19 Landmine (different shade than the Hasbro version, and features tires made of rubber instead of plastic)
* MA-21 Battle Mode Optimus Prime (same mold as Hasbro's Leader Class Premium Series Optimus Prime, but features vacuum metallized rims, bumper/grill and gas tanks/toolboxes. His overall paint deco in robot mode is also slightly more detailed.)
* MD-22 Incinerator (Voyager Class; sporting black as the main colour and a slightly different deco than the US version; also comes with a small Allspark cube accessory)

International exclusives
Trivia
*The "Scout" size class was made exclusive to Target stores for the run of the Movie toyline (although it was available as a mass retail assortment in other countries), and consisted solely of redecos of toys from the Energon and Cybertron toylines. The Animated and Universe lines didn't revisit this price point at all, but the Scout price point returned with the Revenge of the Fallen toyline, this time with entirely new molds.
* Likewise, the "Ultra" size class was originally not used during the Movie toyline's run either. Eventually, the only two "Ultra Class" releases were redecos of Cybertron toys that were exclusively available at Toys"R"Us stores. The 2008 Universe line brought the price point back as a mass retail assortment.
*The Fracture, Crankcase, and Getaway exclusive toys were originally meant to be part of the 2008 Universe line, but Wal*Mart insisted that they be placed into the Movie line instead. (The logic being that the old Universe line eventually failed in the market, while the Movie line was a dramatic hit.)

"Drought"
For the remainder of 2007 following the movie's premiere, many fans complained of a severe toy shortage in most markets, particularly the U.S. Mainline figures had proven to be more difficult to locate at retail than in many years, if not ever. This was due to the convergence of several factors:

*The tremendous success and high profile of the movie has vastly broadened the toy-buying audience, with many more kids, adult collectors, and scalpers seeking out product.
*Major retailers such as Wal-Mart and Target placed orders for TF movie product based on their sales records for Cybertron and Classics figures, as well as movie-related toylines in general, which tend not to do well (as the Spider-Man 3 figures still warming shelves wherever you live can attest).
*Unusual congestion at Chinese factories and shipping docks lengthened the time necessary to produce and ship new figures to the West.

Ironically for much of 2008, as supply began to overtake demand, the movie toys became shelf-warmers, appearing not to sell in huge numbers, and often to the detriment of shelf-space for the newer Animated and Universe toylines.
Jetfire works for The Fallen. No, really!

Synopsis
Ages ago, the Seeker Jetfire served directly under the Prime who would become The Fallen, finding for him various stars to harvest; he believed he was serving the Dynasty of Primes as a whole and harvesting non-living systems, not realising he'd been conned by his master into killing a living world.

Reporting back to the not-yet-Fallen, he was surprised to find his master had already located a new world. When he asked questions about this, his master became impressed that he dared seek answers from a Prime, and decided to let him in on the truth: the rest of the Dynasty had betrayed Cybertron, and were leading it to extinction! It was still-not-yet-Fallen's duty to take control and save the planet from this fate! Confused by all this, Jetfire was taken to the Chamber of the Dynasty of Primes, home of seven sarcophagi from which the Dynasty could communicate; he soon became more confused when six of the Primes stated that he'd committed a heinous act that had to be punished!

The almost-Fallen defended both "my Seeker" and his actions, causing the Dynasty to warp into the chamber to ask about this nonsense he was speaking. While they remained adamant that a grave sin had been committed by killing a living planet, he asked how this sacrifice could matter now after they'd gained so much valuable energy for Cybertron? The other Primes were having none of it, and none of the about-to-be-Fallen's arguments that this gained them power far more quickly; one of them made it clear that the whole Dynasty would have to be in congress before the Solar harvester would be used again, and there would be severe consequences if he made this "mistake" again. The from-the-next-page-he's-Fallen assured them there'd be no more mistakes...

Jetfire left the meeting confused: his master had explored that last planet and there'd been no life on it... had there? He was told a mistake had been made, but the important thing was that the Dynasty were allowing Cybertron to die; that they wish to take power; that someone had to stop them. And that someone was the Fallen, and his hand-picked army of construction drones... the Decepticons! Jetfire is left confused by this new name, but is informed that this group is the future of Cybertron... and there's a place in it for him...

Despite his doubts, Jetfire joined the Decepticons and followed them to a desert on a small blue planet to build another solar harvester. This doubts flared up when Long Haul found primitive life was on this planet... and the Fallen did not care. Jetfire was shocked and finally broke rank, ordering Long Haul to cease work on the harvester. He then pleaded with the Fallen that they couldn't harvest another living world... but since the Fallen had just killed one of the primitives for the hell of it, you can guess how that went. All the Fallen wanted was for the other Primes to come to this world, where he was ready to kill them all, or remain in limbo for eternity: either way, he wins. Jetfire declared he'd stop him, only to get easily swatted down and left to be killed by the Constructicons...

But the Primes had arrived, just as the Fallen wanted. Before engaging in battle, he warped Jetfire and his minions away, and the Seeker found himself under attack. Determined to reach the harvester and stop it, he began tearing through the drones: even wounded, he had power and abilities beyond them! One by one, he dispatched the drones, until only Rampage remained standing. Unfortunately for Jetfire, Rampage got the drop on him, and the only way to avoid being crushed was to teleport into the planet's atmosphere and let re-entry finish him off. Unfortunately, Jetfire's paralysed and unable to fly: this stunt dooms him as well.

Thousands of years later, Jetfire awakes in a desert. Confused, he wanders it until a spy plane crashes into him. He takes its form, and the rest is history...
Quotes
* TBD

Errors
* Obviously, this origin clashes a bit with the "Jetfire was sent by the Fallen to look for the Matrix and fell asleep" origin in the film. (And he can't know anything about the Tomb of the Primes or the Dynasty's battle against the Fallen, since here he never sees any of it)

* The Fallen is the only Prime to land on Earth and set up the harvester, instead of all of them. Fun with early script drafts!

Items of note
* Earliest entry into the movieverse fiction, as it occurs before the events in Defiance or Revenge of the Fallen Movie Adaptation.
* Jetfire and the Constructicons are all greyish-brown, which doesn't do the big fight scene any favours.
* The sarcophagi from Defiance turn up, with the Primes living inside them.
* Despite their noble rep, the Dynasty's reaction to deliberate omnicide is little more than wagging a finger and saying "now don't do it again!".
* There are only six other Primes now, despite there being twelve others in Defiance and the comic adaptation. This brings it in line with the film, which only had Seven Primes, except the DVD's bio for the Fallen claims there were thirteen Primes and ARRRRRRRRGGGGGGG.
* This is the first ROTF fiction to say that the Fallen planned in advance to kill off his brothers on Earth.
* The Constructicons all go unnamed here, and are referred to as "construction drones". They also all die. So the Constructicons in the film and later comics have to be different guys, and are apparently a series of drone units rather than individual guys. Or at least they used to be drones. Hell, I dunno.
* Rampage's Cybertronian form looks like almost exactly like his toy, except he has two legs.
Sideswipe
:Sideswipe is an Autobot from the Revenge of the Fallen portion of the live-action film continuity family.

Sideswipe is true to his function of Warrior. Unlike most Autobots, Sideswipe—part of a younger generation built during wartime—was made to fight. He was born during the war and with full knowledge of the Cybertronian battlefield, designed solely for killing. He's master of the quick-change transformation! Before he enlisted with the Autobots, Sideswipe traveled the galaxy in search of the most proficient warriors and devastating martial arts he could find, leading to him becoming an Autobot combat instructor. Though proficient with guns, he prefers melee combat to ranged weapons, and will employ any maneuver it takes to get close enough to the enemy to use his arm-mounted Cybertanium swords. His agile, wheel-legged form more than allows for this. His tactics are merciless and he's utterly unapologetic about this—war, after all, is messy.

Oh, and he's also not vain at all: those alt modes of his are chosen for speed only. It's a total coincidence that the fastest one just happens to be a sleek, sexy, concept model that's better than your car, honest!
When Sideswipe joined the Autobots he trained under the veteran warrior Ironhide, learning the arts of war. After his training was complete, he went on to become the protector of a settlement of displaced Autobots. This settlement was found by the pitiless Demolishor, who slaughtered them nearly to a bot. Sideswipe was ashamed, not only over having failed to protect his charges, but also because he had lived to tell the tale.Tales of the Fallen issue 2

After Optimus Prime's Autobots left Mission City, they left a homing beacon in a junk yard near the metropolis to attract any Autobots who might have heard Prime's rallying call to Earth. Alliance issue 3 Sideswipe was among those few that answered the beacon and had hidden themselves in the junk yard. Once discovered, they were brought to Diego Garcia to train with the other Autobots and Major Lennox's soldiers in defense of their new home. Alliance issue 4 However, Sideswipe proved a loose cannon as he continued his vendetta against Demolishor when the Decepticon turned up in Montevideo, Uruguay. Showing little regard for humans in pursuing his quarry, Sideswipe's actions prompted Ironhide to arrive on the scene to rein him in. The younger Autobot was openly insubordinate towards Ironhide, warning him not to get in the way. Ultimately all the old veteran could do was to serve as damage control during Sideswipe's singleminded pursuit. Ultimately more reinforcements from NEST arrived, and Demolishor fled the scene. In the aftermath, Sideswipe saw the fear and mistrust the humans regarded him with because of his violent actions. Understanding this, he was forced to admit that Ironhide's admonishment of him was correct. Tales of the Fallen issue 2

Sideswipe didn't have long to wait for another shot at his nemesis. Soon enough, Demolishor had been sighted in Shanghai, China. Alliance issue 4

Sideswipe served as a combat instructor at NEST's Scottish base, and had to put Skids and Mudflap back through basic training—something he was fed up of. As far as he was concerned, they should've been put on charge for causing Grindor to escape and he should have better things to do. He dealt with this by putting the twins through simulated combat after simulated combat, finally cracking it up to maximum setting, before someone knocked him out.

When he came to, the twins were babbling about how a mysterious and long-vanished Decepticon working for another mysterious Decepticon had done it and tried to kill them! Sideswipe was having none of it, viewing this as implausible and believing the twins knocked him out in revenge for training and were covering themselves. Between this and Grindor, he was becoming suspicious of them... Transformers Comic issue 2.4

Following the training, poor Sideswipe took them to Diego Garcia and continued to be pestered by them for a meeting with Prime. Not trusting them and ignoring their babble about some "dude", he tried to discourage them, only for the two to sneak off behind his back. Sighing, he went in pursuit... and saw them distract Prime before a Decepticon attacked,
Skids tripped over Prime before he could take charge, and Mudflap handed a weapon to an escaping prisoner! When Optimus remarked that someone must've compromised security, Sideswipe fingered the twins: their actions clearly showed they were turncoats! Transformers Comic issue 2.5
Sideswipe was one of the Autobots sent to Shanghai when Decepticon energy signatures were detected, but he was initially held in reserve. As Sideways managed to flee from Arcee and the Twins in vehicle mode, Major Lennox ordered Sideswipe deployed. Sideswipe immediately sped in and quickly changed to robot mode. Catching up with Sideways by dexterously skating on his wheel-feet, Sideswipe somersaulted over the Decepticon, threw his right blade in the Decepticon's hood, and then dragged the blade in the opposite direction, tearing Sideways apart. Sideswipe took a moment to reflect on the success of his kill.

Afterwards, he returned with the other Autobots to NEST's base in Diego Garcia, where he witnessed Director Theodore Galloway air the President's concerns over the recent spate of Decepticon activity, and how the Autobots remaining on Earth might be the cause of it.

After the All Spark shard was stolen by Ravage from NEST's secured bunker and Decepticons were detected heading towards Sam Witwicky at Princeton University, Sideswipe and the other Autobots were deployed to intercept, but arrived too late: Optimus Prime had died protecting the human boy from the resurrected Megatron, Starscream and Grindor.

The Autobots and NEST arrived at a United States air base to discover that they were no longer welcome, following renewed Decepticon aggression after Prime's death, and that they were ordered to return to Diego Garcia. The emotionally overwhelmed Autobots nearly came to blows with their former allies but finally agreed to stand down and remain on Earth. When Major Lennox learned Witwicky had come up with a way to possibly resurrect Optimus Prime, NEST travelled to Egypt instead. Sideswipe, who had been covered in a cargo net while being transported in vehicle mode, relished the chance to cut through his bonds when deployed from the air. He fought off many Decepticons in Egypt, and bore witness to Sam resurrecting Optimus Prime with the Matrix of Leadership, and the death of The Fallen. Revenge of the Fallen (film)
**Japanese ID number: RA-04

:Sideswipe transforms into a silver Corvette Stingray concept car. In this mode, he sits so low that it's difficult to roll him without scraping his undercarriage, unless you perform some careful shaping after transforming him (a trait shared by some other live-action movie Deluxe cars, such as Bumblebee and Sideways). He has the Corvette twin flag logo sculpted on both the front of the vehicle mode and on the robot mode sternum, although neither is actually painted. Sideswipe's Mech Alive gimmick is in his knees—bending his legs causes the blue armor plates on his knees to extend. He does have wheels in his feet like his character model, but the toy's feet have been designed in such a way that it can stand alone. The bonnet halves that become Sideswipe's kibble-backpack are highly posable due to the way the hinges work and can be reshaped in several ways, including wrap-around chest armor and bat-like wings. Rounding out his robot-mode awesomeness, his hips have an "invisible joint" and moving pistons, while his "blades" are geared to spin out in unison. He is totally awesome.

:Sideswipe's instructions aren't clear as to how his torso is supposed to connect with his chest in robot mode. The torso piece has a square peg on top of it and there is a corresponding square hole between the two screws holding the front of his chest together. Getting his torso section in front of his arm struts can be a somewhat snug fit. Despite this, the chest peg does have a habit of popping loose while posing the upper body, but can easily be fixed with a thin piece of card.

:Some people might notice that his heels can be turned but his "toe" piece can not. It is advised that you do not try.

:He has blue light-piping for his eyes, but it's ineffective due to backpack kibble blocking the light. Turning his head sideways makes it easier to see.

*Sideswipe / Tech. Sergeant Epps (Human Alliance, 2009)
**Accessories:

:Like all Human Alliance figures, Sideswipe is designed to allow his accompanying human figure, in this case Robert Epps, to ride inside. While in many ways simply a larger version of the Deluxe toy, it has several changes. The wheeled feet now fold out into a stand system, allowing Sideswipe to stand without having to balance on the wheels, and his scissors are now rubberized to prevent injury. The scissor-hands can also be slotted into a gear system connected to the front wheels which cause them to spin as the wheels are turned. Although easy to miss, Sideswipe has more than one place to seat Epps in robot mode, as both seats and both forearms provide Human Alliance human figures a place to stand or sit. The passenger's seat transforms into a missile launcher slung over Sideswipe's other shoulder. Like the Deluxe figure, the HA Sideswipe is something of a shellformer and suffers from an excessive amount of kibble, as nearly the entire top of the vehicle mode is folded up into a backpack, with only the rear bumper being incorporated as Sideswipe's chest. Unmentioned in the instructions, there is a fold-out handle under the swiveling roof section that lines up over Epps' head when seated behind Sideswipe's shoulder, implying that the tailpipes might actually be considered another cannon or scope. This possibly explains why said tailpipes are transparent.

:Surprisingly, Sideswipe has a battle mask! Or rather, his normal head IS his battle mask, and one can lift the top portion of his forehead to reveal a thin sliver of his "real" face. It looks...odd. It's probably best to leave the thing down and never speak of this feature.
: As a Gravity Bot, Sideswipe uses gravity-activated autotransformation to turn into a super deformed Corvette Stingray when laid on his back. When the car is stood back up, it transforms back into its boxy robot mode. The toy features no articulation.
:Funnily enough, despite the Robot Replica promise of total movie-accuracy, his arm-blades are considerably shortened and are a weird metallic blue colour, rather than the silver/gray you might expect.

:Although a stolen prototype that surfaced in 2008 was pretty accurate to the Corvette Stingray car from the movie, the actual RPM Sideswipe toy has been severely altered and looks more like an Aston Martin. Unfortunately, Mattel was able to secure exclusive rights for releasing a Concept Stingray model car at a 1:64 scale for their Hot Wheels line (the toy was recently released as part of the "2010 New Models" lineup).

* Rumored names for Sideswipe in the early days of the movie shooting were "Hot Rod" (which might have been a case of fans simply suggesting a random name and other fans subsequently treating it as gospel) and "Stinger". The latter originated with a (real) call sheet leaked in June 2008, which suggests that "Stinger" was an actual working name.

* Thanks to that whole General Motors bankruptcy thing, Sideswipe may be the closest we'll ever get to seeing a real Stingray.

* Sideswipe was recently announced as a new downloadable character for the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 versions of Revenge of the Fallen, alongside Soundwave. He is the only downloadable character with a G1 homage skin, which makes him twice as awesome.

* Sideswipe's Cybertronian mode was revealed in Tales of the Fallen, as well as the fact he arrived on Earth in November 2008.
