Those who know '''Octopunch''' like to call him an ordinary, everyday Decepticon. Which is pretty weird, since he's nothing like the rest of them! Unlike his peers, Octopunch has no psychological hangups or weird quirks. He's just a guy, you know? He doesn't even understand why everyone likes fighting so much; he's got no love for war. For him, the war's just a job, and like any other job, he wants to do it well.

Octopunch is covered in experimental [[rheanimum]] rust-proofing, which was intended to help him in his underwater missions, but also had the side effect of making him impervious to any nanotech invasions. In other words, when there's [[Junkion (SG)|Junkion]]s on the docket, the Decepticons make sure he's on the roster. Octopunch also carries two positron-torpedo launchers.

When the Decepticons were tipped off by Optimus Prime that Ultra Magnus had escaped his prison on [[Paradron]], Octopunch joined [[Treadshot (SG)|Treadshot]]'s team to hunt him down. They traveled through a portal to a strange parallel universe where they encountered Magnus and his army battling their destination universe's heroic Autobots. Here Magnus was after this universe's [[Rarified Energon]] so that he could open up a hole in space time to bring its Earth to his Cybertron, destroying them both. But when Octopunch and the Decepticons appeared, Magnus used his stolen [[Terminus Blade]] to stage an escape.

The heroic Autobots and heroic Decepticons joined forces and fought back the insidious [[Junkion (SG)|Junkion]] hive, while Octopunch and a heroic [[Scoop (G1)|Scoop]] scoped out the evil Autobot's machinery below. Here the pair encountered two evil Decepticons. Scoop was able to disable [[Skullgrin]], but Octopunch was more evenly matched against the other. Suddenly, Octopunch stumbled upon the realization that his opponent was his alternate universe counterpart, and while the evil Octopunch was momentarily confused, the heroic Octopunch dealt a finishing blow.

After surveying the equipment underground, Octopunch realized that the forcefield guarding it was impenetrable, and he relayed that information to [[Sir Soundwave]] aboveground. Ultimately, Soundwave was able to expand the forcefield surrounding the underground equipment to cover the entire Earth. Octopunch and the heroic Decepticons believed this had averted the crisis, but Magnus scoffed. He wanted to destroy this Earth, yes, but he'd also set in motion the destruction of its entire universe! As Earth was pulled into orbit over their universe's Cybertron, the Earth's entire former dimension was destroyed.

'''Metalhawk''' (メタルホーク ''Metaruhōku'') is the leader of the [[Autobot]] [[Pretender]]s. Like all great Autobot leaders, he's a warm, noble being with a great love of life, liberty and all of that, and like all those other great leaders, he also got his crew stranded on [[Earth]] when they pursued a group of [[Decepticon]]s there during the Stone Age. Metalhawk was deeply moved by the burgeoning humanity: at first seeing only frail beings that needed defending, he soon came to realize their amazing potential for love, compassion and courage, and was so struck by them that he, and his fellow Autobots, used their Pretender powers to transform themselves into human beings. With the aid of these disguises, they defended early man against the Decepticon Pretenders, who had taken the forms of monsters. They eventually defeated and sealed away the villains, inspiring a few legends themselves in the process, and then went on to help guide the evolution of Earth's society and culture.

By the early 21st century, Metalhawk had adopted the simple human alias of '''Hawk''', and now works as an astrophysicist at the observatory run by [[Professor Gō]]. He is close friends with both the professor, with whom he has entrusted the secret of his true identity, and with the professor's son [[Shūta Gō|Shūta]], who looks up to him and aspires to be like him when he grows up.

Metalhawk transforms into a jet so fast that it can travel from Earth to the [[Moon (moon)|moon]] and back in only fifteen minutes. His ultimate attack technique is the "Shining Arrow", which sees him leap into the air and charge his body with energy which he then rains down on his opponent in a hail of powerful bolts.

Having lived among humankind on Earth for epochs, Metalhawk was the natural choice to serve as protector of the planet when the Autobot forces operating in outer space received word of renewed Decepticon activity brewing on the planet from the former Decepticon, [[Sixshot]]. Unable to spare any troops to bolster Metalhawk's forces on Earth, the Autobots in space sent a cargo ship carrying six [[Transtector]]s to the planet instead, to which human beings could bond to become new Transformers themselves. Although three of the Transtectors were stolen en route by the Decepticons, Metalhawk safely received the rest, and stored them in the [[Autobot Base|fortified base]] that Professor Gō had arranged the construction of. {{storylink|Birth! Some time later, Metalhawk was returning to the observatory after attending one of Shūta's soccer games with Professor Gō when he received a communiqué from fellow Autobot [[Diver (Masterforce)|Diver]] informing him of a Decepticon attack on a cruise ship. Realizing that the villains had escaped their imprisonment at last, Metalhawk knew that the time had come to fight once again. Concerned for Shūta's safety, he elected to at last reveal his true identity to the boy, and told him the full story of the Pretenders' history on Earth. The next day, news of another Decepticon attack on a city reached Metalhawk, and he at last dropped his Pretender disguise, transforming back into his robotic form again and flying to the scene in jet mode. The [[Tentakil (Masterforce)|Tentakil]] [[Seacon (Masterforce)|Seacons]] which confronted him were not particularly impressive opponents, but things took a turn for the worse when Shūta, who had followed Metalhawk to the battlefield, was captured by one of the creatures. Metalhawk was able to destroy one of the drones with his Titanium Saber, but as he moved on the second, the Decepticon Pretenders entered the fray and attacked the outnumbered Autobot. Luckily, the other Autobot Pretenders arrived to save Metalhawk, allow him to rescue Shūta and destroy the Seacon, prompting the Decepticons to flee. {{storylink|Rise Up!! Pretenders}}

While investigating Decepticon activity in the [[Karin Islands]], Metalhawk battled [[Dauros]] and a swarm of [[Lobclaw]] Seacons. The fight, however, was witnessed by the islands' prince, [[Cab]], who fled from the Autobot, and was followed by Shūta, who hoped to explain the situation. Calmed by Shūta, Cab tracked the Decepticons to the nearby "Isle of the Gods," and Metalhawk and the Autobots followed him there and successfully dispatched the Decepticons. Unfortunately, during their absence, [[Blood]] had attacked Professor Gō's observatory, and Metalhawk's team returned too late to save the professor's life. Seeking to capture [[Blanieux|Professor Blanieux]], the prize-winning biologist from the Republic of [[Mont Porte]], the Decepticons attacked a jumbo jet, which crashed in Corsica. Metalhawk headed out with the Autobots to investigate, and posed as a government investigator in order to question [[Minerva (Masterforce)|Minerva]], daughter of Mont Porte's ambassador to Japan. After learning what they could from her, Metalhawk and the Autobots sped to Rome to quell an attack by the Decepticons' [[Destroid]]s there, and then accompanied Minerva's family and Professor Blanieux on the last leg of their trip to Japan. Metalhawk's suspicions proved right, as Blood and some [[Overbite (Masterforce)|Overbite]] Seacons attacked the craft, and he and [[Phoenix]] engaged them in battle and defeated them. The true threat, however, was a Destroid [[stewardess]] planted aboard the plane, which was bested by Cab and Shūta, but not before it sent the jet into a nosedive. Metalhawk and Phoenix saved the jet by lifting it to safety on their own backs. Seeing Shūta, Cab and Minerva's determination to aid the Autobot cause and battle the Decepticons, Metalhawk made them an offer to become true Autobot warriors. The three kids accepted and were bonded to the Transtectors sent by the space-faring Autobots, becoming [[Headmaster Junior]]s. Alas, the Decepticons had created their own Headmaster Juniors with the Transtectors they had stolen, and Metalhawk had to teach the Autobot Juniors to put rescuing humans before fighting their villainous counterparts. Shūta, in particular, had some trouble living up to the promise when all three Decepticon Juniors ganged up on him when he was attempting to save a baby from a burning building, but Metalhawk arrived to dispatch the three punks. {{storylink|Birth! The Third Godmaster, Ranger}} Metalhawk thought the final Godmaster had been found when he misinterpreted a news report on [[Sixknight]] {{storylink|A Powerful Foe!! Sixknight the Wanderer}} but the true Godmaster, [[Road King]], was soon found, at which point Metalhawk decided to step down as Autobot leader, and appointed Ginrai to command in his place. {{storylink|The Autobot Warrior, Sixknight?!}}

Soon thereafter, word came from the Autobots in space that the Decepticon super-weapon, [[Scorponok (G1)|BlackZarak]], was headed for Earth. Metalhawk, Diver and Lander met with their old comrade [[Grand Maximus]] atop a mountain, and were given the plans and materials necessary to construct "[[Godbomber]]", a drone that would merge with Ginrai, endowing him with the ability to fly and fight in space, allowing him to best BlackZarak before he reached the Earth. {{storylink|Life? The Desperate Lightfoot}} Metalhawk elected to keep the construction of Godbomber secret from the Headmaster Juniors at first, but once this "Bomber Project" began in a [[British Motors]] factory donated by Lightfoot's father, he soon summoned them to the facility and told them the whole story. {{storylink|Super Ginrai Gets Blown Away in the Desert!?}} The course of the Bomber Project did not run smoothly, as the Decepticons badly injured Ginrai and attacked the facility, but through it all, Metalhawk remained at the forefront of construction, speeding the project to completion while his fellow Autobots handled the Decepticon threat. {{storylink|Will the Bomber Project Be Destroyed!?}} Although Godbomber was soon successfully completed, Metalhawk was unwilling to let the injured Ginrai combine with the drone, telling him that he could not save the Earth on his own. Subsequently, Metalhawk and his fellow took something of a back seat as Ginrai and the other Autobots battled the Decepticons across the Earth, but his wits were not dulled by this period of inactivity, and he was quick to suspect [[Clouder]], the newly-discovered final Autobot Godmaster, when he discovered that the main computer in the Autobot base had been tampered with. Although Minerva took the blame, Metalhawk could tell she was covering for her new friend, and his suspicions were soon proved correct when he caught Clouder handing over information on the base to the Decepticon Headmaster Juniors. Unfortunately, exposing Clouder's true nature as a Decepticon spy did not prevent the information he had stolen from making its way into the hands of the Decepticons, who soon launched a full-scale assault on the Autobot base. {{storylink|Secret Orders! Destroy the Autobot Base!!}} A missile strike on the base's control room knocked Metalhawk unconscious, leaving the Headmaster Juniors alone in the base. After hooking Metalhawk up to some medical equipment, Minerva advocated abandoning the base, and ultimately, the Autobots were forced to do just that, as the Decepticons' attack destroyed their headquarters. {{storylink|Disaster! In the wake of this disaster, things only got worse for the Autobots, as BlackZarak returned and successfully landed on Earth. Metalhawk arrived too late to save [[New York City|New York]] from the villain's wrath, and soon received word from Diver of an attack on [[Paris]] by Overlord, relaying news of the devastation to Lightfoot. {{storylink|BlackZarak - Destroyer from Space}} The battle that ensued carried the Godmasters and Headmaster Juniors into space, where BlackZarak unleashed the unholy [[Death Para-Machine]] upon the Earth. Metalhawk was stationed in a human observatory at the time, where the staff quickly deduced that the evil device had drastically eroded Earth's ozone layer. Following a battle with the Decepticon Pretenders in Latin America, {{storylink|God Ginrai - Save Cancer!?}} Metalhawk got a bit more proactive, positioning sonar probes across the world in hopes of locating the Decepticon base. With their headquarters destroyed, the Decepticons relocated to the Alps, and the Autobots pursued, splitting into teams to search for the villains. Metalhawk and the Headmaster Juniors were quickly attacked by [[King Poseidon]], and Metalhawk was badly wounded saving Minerva from the Seacon combiner's blasts. Ginrai soon arrived to save them, but the injured quartet was forced to remain behind as Ginrai scaled the mountain to confront BlackZarak in final battle. {{storylink|Malevolent and Inhuman! The True Form of Devil Z}} After his wounds were tended to by Minerva, Metalhawk was insistent that he be allowed to accompany Grand Maximus and Shūta as they went to observe Ginrai's battle, but Grand talked him down and left him to recuperate. Metalhawk and Shūta responded to the attack, and Metalhawk stunned the assembled islanders by transforming from human form to robot mode. Easily evading Blood's "Bloody Moon" attack, Metalhawk dispatched the Decepticons with his Shining Arrow, and island elder [[Donq]] proceeded to lead the islanders in praising Metalhawk, recognizing him as a god from Karin Island mythology. Thankfully, they were able to defeat them, and Metalhawk arrived in time to see the punks fleeing the scene. Before the War, Metalhawk served aboard a cargo vessel known as the ''[[Starduster]]''. Hearing about the newly-formed [[Cybertron Elite Guard|Elite Guard]], Metalhawk resigned his commission and entered the [[Autobot Military Academy]], eager to serve his planet. Thanks in part to his impressive knowledge of alien martial arts techniques, 'Hawk rose quickly through the ranks and, in just under two cycles, became the faster recruit to advance to command status. He also underwent the flying upgrade process, taking to the air with natural ease. Metalhawk's friendly demeanor and skills earned him the respect and admiration of his men and fellow command officers, even the normally unapproachable [[Halonix Maximus]]. {{storylink|Hasbro Transformers Collectors' Club issue 34|Metalhawk's "Wings of Honor" profile}}

Metalhawk received command of the 201st division, the Strike Team. During one of the Guard's battles, Metalhawk's squad found themselves facing a horde of [[Virulent Clone]]s along with [[Thunder Clash]]'s squad. He was just a little peeved when his subordinate [[Ironfist (G1)|Ironfist]]'s explosives nearly took them out along with the Clones. When it turned out that the Clones could also ''fly'', Metalhawk ordered another squadmate, [[Over-Run (G1)|Over-Run]], to provide them with some aerial support.

[[Landshark]] hoped to see the two "upgrades" show off their new flying abilities, but Over-Run took out the Clones with his personal remotely-controlled helicopter instead. The two squads then relaxed for a moment, with Metalhawk removing his helmet and chest armor while chit-chatting with Thunder Clash.

Their chit-chat was soon interrupted, however, by a call from [[Magnum]] ordering Metalhawk to escort Thunder Clash's squad to [[Space Port Bravo]]. After giving Thunder Clash a bit of friendly teasing, the two squads loaded up their gear onto the ''[[Hawk's Claw]]'' and disembarked. Once they arrived at the spaceport, the two squads' leaders bid their goodbyes to each other, and Thunder Clash's squad headed inside.

Upon being asked by Over-Run what he thought their next assignment would be, Metalhawk expressed a hope for something quiet. He was amused by Dion's teasing about how ''he'' would be happy to beat up some Decepticons, but was displeased by Over-Run's snide question about whether Dion had ever seen a Decepticon up-close, and troubled by Dion stalking off in response.

They eventually headed over to Elite Guard HQ. There they were greeted by Magnum, who noted that he thought Metalhawk's squad was performing above expectations, and sometimes even better than Thunder Clash's squad at that—which Metalhawk was all too happy to note for his and Thunder Clash's "boasting contest". Magnum then explained that, as a result, he was sending Metalhawk's squad on a special mission—one that would involve a [[Combaticon (G1)|new special ops group]] Magnum had formed. {{storylink|The Coming Storm: Part 2}}

This mission was supposed to be an oilcake-walk, a gesture of good will towards the civilian guilds to keep them from interfering too seriously in Elite Guard operations. An archeological dig in [[Median]] had uncovered a number of relics from Cybertron's forgotten history and, according to their civilian guest [[Alpha Trion (G1)|Alpha Trion]], some expertise with explosives and demolition was needed to help clear out the dig site. Hardly enthused with the assignment, Metalhawk nonetheless did Magnum proud and very diplomatically told Alpha Trion they would be honored to assist his team of scientists, in the name of Cybertron and the Elite Guard.

Lending aid to Median turned out to be less simple than they expected. The team led by [[Glyph (G1)|Glyph]] and [[Flip Sides (G1)|Flipsides]] had unearthed a powerful artifact called the [[Heart of the Dragon]], and were expecting to be attacked by Decepticon raiders within a few solar cycles. Thank [[The One|the One]] for good intel. Metalhawk and the Combaticon leader [[Onslaught (G1)|Onslaught]] quickly began working to fortify Median, alongside the dig team's security chief, [[Strika (BM)|Strika]]. They arranged several traps and pitfalls for the [[Stormtrooper (G1)|Stormtrooper]]s and their advance guard, and set up to greet their inevitable foes.

The groups separated for the assault, with Metalhawk and most of his team with [[Blast Off (G1)|Blast Off]] and [[Swindle (G1)|Swindle]] as Squad B, while Ironfist joined Strika, Onslaught and the Combaticons. After Squad A dealt with the Stormtroopers' "hitter", [[Roadgrabber]], they fell back for Metalhawk's group to oppose the next wave. Metalhawk used their scientist recruit [[Lancer]] as a decoy, drawing [[Rage]] and his Stormtroopers into a snare. Unfortunately, he then made several mistakes in a row. Firstly, he gave the Decepticons an honest chance at surrender. Secondly, he didn't take Rage's chemical cannon seriously. And thirdly, he didn't anticipate that the fuzzy...the fuzzy p-petro-rabbits tasted like...yellow...grishy boushy vroom vroom...

By the time Metalhawk recovered from the chemically-induced stasis lock, the battle was basically over and the Decepticons had successfully stolen the Heart of the Dragon. The Elite Guard began pursuit, and tracked the Stormtroopers back to their mobile fortress, the [[Metrotitan (Zone)|Metrotitan]]. They made their way past the boastful bash brothers, [[Terror-Tread]] and [[Cement-Head]], the menacing [[Minotoron]]s, and the bombastic [[Brimstone (G1)|Brimstone]], empowered by the Heart of the Dragon itself. The Heart proved to be too much for his tiny frame, however, unleashing an explosion of such indescribable power that the Elite Guard, the Metrotitan, and everything in a 50 hic radius was consumed in a fiery inferno and consigned to the Pit.

...or so Metalhawk's incident report read. In fact, the Elite Guard survived and made their way to safety with a new recruit, the former Stormtrooper [[Drench (G1)|Drench]]. Artistic license aside, Magnum congratulated Metalhawk and Onslaught on a job well done. The two teams were almost immediately reassigned to another mission in [[Praxium]]. {{storylink|Flames of Yesterday}}

As time passed, Metalhawk's team and the Combaticons continued to work in close proximity with each other, developing a strong bond. Metalhawk and Onslaught even got into a habit of exchanging war stories, like the one about [[Thunderwing (G1)|Thunderwing]]'s failed grenade, or the amusing fate of [[Blue Bacchus]]. They separated after a mission against [[Shadowcaster]], as Metalhawk's strike team reported back to Magnum while the Combaticons remained in the field. {{storylink|The Coming Storm: Part 3}}

When the Combaticons never returned from the field, they were listed as MIA and potential casualties. Magnum reassigned Metalhawk and the 201st away from the front lines, fearing emotion over the loss of his comrades might cloud his judgement. {{storylink|A Team Effort}} While on a tedious search for possible Decepticon activity in the wastelands, Metalhawk and the Strike Team received an SOS from Elite Guard Headquarters — Sentinel Major was under attack! They raced back to base but found the rest of the Elite Guard had succeeded in disabling most of the attackers. Surprisingly, the ''Combaticons'' were among the Decepticon warriors left standing. They apparently chose to switch sides after being captured, and worse, were altered by [[Deathsaurus (Victory)|Deathsaurus]]'s technology. As Metalhawk watched aghast over [[Ricochet (Timelines)|Ricochet]]'s holo-imager, the Combaticons merged to form [[Bruticus (G1)|Bruticus]], destroying Sentinel Major with one fist as the battle began anew. {{storylink|The Coming Storm: Part 5}}

Racing to the side of their fellow Guardsmen, Metalhawk's team arrived at a scene of carnage, as Bruticus obliterated all opposition in his path. Over-Run and Ironfist fell in battle alongside the rest of the Guard. The crazed giant was only halted when Dion boosted into Bruticus's face and blew out his optics. Dion was swatted away from the battlefield, but the damage was enough to force the Combaticons to revert to their individual forms. As Onslaught and his comrades prepared to return to Deathsaurus for repairs before heading out after Magnum and the Council, Metalhawk placed himself in his former friends' path, bravely ordering them to stand down. Metalhawk got into trouble at Median for giving his foes an honorable chance to surrender, and this was no different. Sick of the [[Great War (G1)|war]], Metalhawk was inspired by the [[Circle of Light]] and left [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]] with many others. He felt that, although the Senate was corrupt, the Autobots and Decepticons' war was no better. {{storylink|Transformers: The Death of Optimus Prime|The Death of Optimus Prime}} His group settled in a region that allowed them to use [[Shanix]] as currency. {{storylink|Stick Together}} In the aftermath of the [[D-Void]]'s attack on the planet, he returned as part of the first wave of NAILs, and served as their defacto representative in negotiations with Autobot high command. When [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]] returned after his short disappearance following the battle with the [[D-Void]], Metalhawk had some choice words for the "hero". Behind the scenes, Metalhawk admitted to [[Zetca (G1)|Zetca]] that he understood how the Autobots felt, but he still wished to maneuver them into a situation he felt was better for the future of Cybertron.

Soon, the returning NAILs grew frustrated with the Autobots' "occupation" of Cybertron, and they began rioting outside their headquarters. When the Autobots let the imprisoned Decepticons loose to enforce crowd control, Metalhawk was hit in the crossfire. Optimus Prime ordered [[Sideswipe (G1)|Sideswipe]] to bring him inside. As tempers flared amongst the Autobots, with Metalhawk's presence inflaming things even further, Optimus Prime decided that (as a living symbol of the war) he should leave Cybertron. {{storylink|Transformers: The Death of Optimus Prime|The Death of Optimus Prime}} Metalhawk and Bumblebee later greeted some NAILS who arrived on Cybertron. :A [[retool]] of [[Generations (toyline)|''Generations'']] [[Thunderwing (G1)|Thunderwing]], Metalhawk is a blue and red fighter jet loosely based on an [[United States Air Force#F-22 Raptor|F-22 Raptor]], with different wings but retaining the F-22's characteristic zigzag patterns sculpted on the hull. In addition to a new fleshy head, the nose of the jet can detach and become a separate aerial drone, while the two missile launchers can detach from the wings and become handheld weapons or clip together into one massive gun. The middle section of the sculpted missiles on the sides of the guns are also compatible with [[C joint]] accessories. Metalhawk's colors are based on the original toy's Pretender shell rather than the inner robot, much like other recent new toys of Pretender characters. The story of the Overlord begins with the mysterious alien energy-being and self-styled Decepticon god, [[Devil Z]], who schemed to create the ultimate lifeform by merging Transformers and humans into one. Devil Z stole a collection of Transformer [[Transtector]]s from the [[G Nebula 89|G Nebula]] and brought them to Earth, where he recruited two human beings, husband and wife [[Giga]] and [[Mega]], and charged them with creating an army for him. Mega and Giga were both bonded to the largest Transtector, and together, they became the terrifying Overlord, serving as Devil Z's "Ambassador of Destruction" on Earth.

In this continuity, each of Overlord's two components are piloted by Giga and Mega, and are hence known as the '''Gigatank''' and the '''Megajet'''. Giga and Mega took their Transtectors into battle for the first time after a string of failures that resulted in several of the Godmaster Transtectors falling into the hands of the [[Autobot]]s. Incensed by this failure, Giga decided to reduce Ginrai's power level by destroying Godbomber. A desert again served as Ginrai and Overlord's battleground, as Overlord used his Chōkon Power to create a massive whirling tornado out of the shifting sands, but when he was thrown off balance by a sneaky God Punch attack, Overlord's "Chōkon Tornado" quickly backfired on him and sent him spinning off wildly through the sky. {{storylink|Overlord - Terror of the Chōkon Tornado}} Despite this setback, Overlord made another attempt to eliminate Godbomber, this time by separating him from Ginrai with an ambush in the American heartland. Overlord later adopted his base mode for the first time to act as a staging ground for the search for the final Godmaster. The search came to an abruptly end, however, when the Godmaster himself, [[Clouder]], sought out the Decepticons, and the villains decided to use his ability to adopt two robot forms to install him as a double agent within the Autobot ranks. {{storylink|Appearance!! The Final Godmaster}} Using information fed to them by Clouder, the Decepticons initiated a full-scale attack on the Autobots' headquarters, again using Overlord's base mode as a mobile headquarters from which the assault was masterminded. {{storylink|Secret Orders! Soon thereafter, BlackZarak returned to Earth, and the Decepticons began "Operation M-1" to cut a swathe of devastation across the Earth. While BlackZarak tore through [[New York City|New York]], Overlord landed in the heart of [[Paris]], decimating military resistance and destroying the [[Arc de Triomphe]]. With these cities in ruins, the two Decepticons began to converge on Tokyo; while passing over China, Overlord landed on the Great Wall and broadcasted a message to the leaders of the world, warning them to surrender or witness Tokyo's destruction. Overlord then carried on his way, easily defeating [[Metalhawk]], [[Phoenix (Masterforce)|Phoenix]] and [[Diver (Masterforce)|Diver]] when they attempted to block his path. Overlord and BlackZarak soon arrived in Tokyo, and with no surrender forthcoming, began razing the city. In the midst of the chaos, however, Ginrai and Grand Maximus—who had been trapped in a black hole by BlackZarak, and only just managed to escape—arrived to stop their evil deeds. After a battle with [[Lightfoot]] in southern Europe, {{storylink|God Ginrai - Save Cancer!?}} Overlord tried a more underhanded tactic, capturing Autobot Headmaster Junior [[Shūta Gō]], and using him as a bargaining chip to bring Ginrai to the Decepticon base. The battle that followed was distinctly one-sided, as Ginrai was unable to fight back due to Shūta being in danger, but this suddenly took an unexpected turn when Decepticon Junior [[Cancer (Masterforce)|Cancer]] turned on his teammates and freed Shūta. Even as the shocked Overlord commanded him to stop, Ginrai got back in the fight, and flattened Overlord before escaping with Shūta and Cancer. {{storylink|God Ginrai: Showdown at the Decepticon Base}} With the information Cancer provided them, the Autobots were able to stage an all-out attack on the Decepticon base, during which Overlord again battled Ginrai. For a time, Devil Z's hatred of humankind had been steadily growing, and rankled with Giga and Mega, reaching a head when the alien abandoned [[Wilder]] and [[Bullhorn]] in the ruins of the Decepticon base, and transformed Hydra and Buster into true robots. {{storylink|Battle to the Death!! God Ginrai VS Darkwings Reborn}} Confronting God Ginrai for one final time in the heart of the [[Grand Canyon]], Overlord vowed to fight him without weapons, battling him only through the use of his physical strength and the power of his human flesh. He didn't explain his motives to Ginrai, but Ginrai observed Overlord's refusal to draw his weapons, and fought honourably. After the battle in the Grand Canyon, the Decepticons relocated to the Alps, and the Autobots again gave chase. Overlord was willing to engage the Autobot Godmasters, but the merged Devil Z/BlackZarak entity held him back and instead buried them under an avalanche. Meanwhile, Ginrai again defeated Hydra and Buster, and the two brothers limped back to the peak of the Matterhorn, where Devil Z turned on them for their failure. As their punishment continued, Overlord at last stood up to his emperor and attempted to stop him, only to be on the receiving end of the emperor's wrath. {{storylink|Malevolent and Inhuman! The True Form of Devil Z}} Unexpectedly, Overlord was rescued by Ginrai, and as the Autobot leader began his final battle with BlackZarak, Giga and Mega realized that they owed him a debt of honor for saving them and finally made the decision to turn against their former master. When Overlord attempted to aid God Ginrai in his battle with BlackZarak, however, they were struck down and enveloped in a sphere of Devil Z's [[Devil Power]]. Devil Z separated Mega and Giga from their Transtectors, bringing Overlord to live as a true super-robot lifeform. As their [[Master-Brace]]s vanished from their wrists, Giga and Mega died, regretting that they could not settle their rivalry with Ginrai honourably. Years later, when the supernatural creature known as [[Violen Jiger]] seized command of the Decepticons, his first act was to recruit nine "[[Nine Great Demon Generals|Demon Generals]]" from Decepticon history. Overlord was selected to be one of those Generals and was given new power and weaponry to make him an even greater threat than before. At Violen Jiger's instruction, Overlord was sent to the planet [[Feminia]] to wreak havoc along with [[Abominus (G1)|Abominus]] and [[Menasor (G1)|Menasor]]. Together, the three Decepticon Demon Generals destroyed the entire planet and nearly killed Autobot [[Supreme Commander]] [[Star Saber (Victory)|Victory Saber]] in the process.

Two-and-a-half months later, Overlord led Menasor, Abominus and [[Bruticus (G1)|Bruticus]] in an attack on the planet of [[Micro|Zone]], gleefully blasting [[Micromaster]]s and using his trident to slice into [[Zone Base]] to retrieve a sample of [[Energon Z]] for Decepticon use. Blindsided and badly damaged by the newly-created God Ginrai, Overlord was goaded into pursuing the Autobot out into space, where BlackZarak was battling the Autobot [[Headmaster (technology)|Headmasters]]. As BlackZarak turned to face the approaching Ginrai, the cunning Autobot swiftly ducked out of the way, causing Overlord and BlackZarak to attack each other. Gravely wounded, Overlord returned to Earth, while BlackZarak fled back into space. {{storylink|God Ginrai's Amazing Super-God Combination!}}

Overlord's base mode was employed by the Decepticon to hold Shūta Gō and [[Cab]] prisoner, when they attempted to torture the two boys into becoming members of the Decepticons. Their fellow Autobot Junior, [[Minerva (Masterforce)|Minerva]], came to their rescue when she crashed Godbomber through Overlord's walls and freed them, after which Overlord transformed to robot mode to face the approaching Ginrai and Grand Maximus. It wasn't his best showing: after Ginrai combined with Godbomber, Grand crashed his battleship directly into Overlord's face, and God Ginrai used the Headmaster's "[[Master Blade (Masterforce)|Master Blade]]" to slice off Overlord's legs. From the top of [[Qomolangma]], Overlord rained destruction down on the world using the Decepticons' newest weapon, the [[A.O. Laser]]. When Ginrai and Godbomber arrived to stop him, Overlord turned the laser on them; they dodged, but they had failed to observe the presence of the Decepticons' newest member, the Godmaster Clouder, who reflected the laser beam back at them and knocked them out of the sky. Unfortunately for Overlord, a chance comment from Cancer insulting Clouder's falcon mode plunged the Godmaster into such a rage that he turned on his Decepticon allies and blew up the A.O. Laser in Overlord's hands. Although Ginrai had been temporarily blinded by the A.O. Laser, the Headmaster Juniors were able to serve as his eyes and point him in the right direction to unleash his "God Punch" attack, which clobbered Overlord so hard that Giga and Mega actually popped out of his chest. {{storylink|Decepticons' Great Counterattack!}}

Soon thereafter, when the Autobots were off-Earth visiting their space-based allies, BlackZarak was able to return to Earth, and he and Overlord took the opportunity to attack a city. The Autobots soon returned with, and Ginrai and Godbomber grappled with Overlord, forcing him to separate back into the Megajet and Gigatank. The two Autobots clung onto the separate Transtectors, however, refusing to let them escape, as they waited for the new weapon they had brought back from space, the [[VX Bomb]] to detonate. The explosion came seconds later, knocking Mega and Giga's Transtectors offline, but Ginrai and Godbomber survived by combining into God Ginrai. {{storylink|Live? Die?! When BlackZarak attacked a city, Cancer happened to be here, and BlackZarak showed his disdain for humans by using the boy as a bargaining chip to prevent the Autobots from interfering with his deviltry. Horrified at this treatment of Cancer, Overlord viciously attacked BlackZarak, rescuing Cancer from his grip, but while they were fighting, it allowed the Autobots to take down both of them. {{storylink|Great Turn-Around! In light of this act of treachery by Overlord, it was perhaps not surprising that in the midst of his next battle with Ginrai, Overlord himself was the subject of a betrayal. In an attempt to transform himself into the ultimate lifeform, Devil Z fused with BlackZarak, and then turned on Overlord and the Decepticon Headmaster Juniors, attempting to drain theirs and Ginrai's [[Chōkon Power|Jinchōkon]] and take it for his own. They were saved by the Autobot Pretenders, who blocked the Jinchōkon-absorbing beam, and Overlord decided to join with the Autobots in defeating Devil Z. Overlord joined with all the other Transformers in combining their energies into the "Perfect Transform Attack", which finally destroyed BlackZarak and Devil Z once and for all. With the alien's death, the Transformers' Transtectors were brought to life as true super-robot lifeforms, Overlord's included. Alas, Devil Z's energies had also been sustaining the lives of Giga and Mega, and his death also resulted in theirs. One month after the Demon Generals destroyed the planet Feminia, apparently taking the life of the Autobot Supreme Commander Victory Saber in the process, Overlord led Menasor, Bruticus and Abominus in an attack on the planet Zone, where they successfully stole a sample of the super-energy, Energon Z. When the Zone Base transformed into battle mode and opened fire on the Decepticons, Overlord called retreat, seeing no need to stay and fight when the prize was already theirs. Overlord then handed the Energon Z off to the second platoon of generals, who subsequently headed for Earth, but were defeated in battle there by the Decepticon Powered Master Dai Atlas. {{storylink|Fight! However, Overlord perhaps didn't join for the right reasons. He was enthralled not with the loftiness of the Decepticon cause that Megatron espoused, but more with the glorious excess of the gladiator battles and the freedom of making entire worlds his arena. To Overlord, the ends didn't matter overly much when the ''means'' themselves were this pleasurable. As a result his tactics developed a reputation as unsound, and his schemes as nothing more than flights of brutal whimsy. Unlike [[Scorponok (G1)|many]] [[Shockwave (G1)|other]] powerful Decepticons, he had no interest in command, only in taking his slaughter to the next stage. Megatron was not convinced, however, believing the image of Overlord as simply interested in killing to be a façade, and began searching for a way to exert greater control over him.

During the early years of the war, on [[Caldoon 4]] Overlord slaughtered a battalion of Autobots before making his way to a meeting which involved [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]], [[Sixshot]] and [[Black Shadow (Victory)|Black Shadow]]. It was here he was informed that Megatron had finalized his [[infiltration protocol]] and that the assembled Decepticons would be his "phase sixers"; three extremely powerful warriors who would visit planets on the verge of collapse and wipe out any possible resistance. While Black Shadow and Sixshot merely declared "For the Decepticons", Overlord was less pleased at the idea of simply being a weapon to point and shoot. When he asked what if he aspired for something more, Megatron informed him of two options; either do as he was told or refuse, in which case Megatron would hunt him down and rend him limb from limb.

Overlord was sobered by this ultimatum, but only momentarily. Overlord returned to the battle outside, and messily dispatched every Autobot save one. Overlord held [[Kup (G1)|Kup]]'s limp form, shattered but alive, and told him to let Megatron know that he'd chosen option two. Some time later, Overlord engaged in battle with an emperor of a star system that had developed interstellar travel and weapons of similar technology level. He got in over his head and traveled to the nearby planet [[Spensifax B]] and asked [[Gorelock]], the Decepticon battalion commander stationed there, for aid. With the help of Gorelock's battalion, Overlord reengaged the emperor's forces in combat. The science officer [[Vivisector]] estimated that the resulting battle put the technological development of the empire back and estimated 250,000 years. As the Wreckers pulled themselves from the wreckage of their pod, Overlord disappointedly stated he had been expecting a team of Decepticons sent by Megatron but instead only got some Autobots. He didn't agree with Rotorstorm that there was a distinction between Autobot and Wreckers either. He did however show some amusement at Rotorstorm's joke about Wreckers combining. It gave him a giggle... right before he put a gun between Rotorstorm's optics and shot him through the head. He offered the surviving Wreckers a chance at surrender, but they simply had Pyro protect Verity while the rest attacked. Overlord was suitably unimpressed, but after Stalker revealed there was a second team of Wreckers in G-9, he took the opportunity to have some fun, announcing any Decepticon who brought him the head of a Wrecker would be allowed to leave. As the Decepticons charged, Perceptor detonated a tank of fuel. Once the second team of Wreckers had regrouped and killed [[Stalker (G1)|Stalker]] after a number of them being captured, [[Springer (G1)|Springer]] set a new mission objective: Kill Overlord. He was quickly warned by a dying [[Snare]] that Overlord was on his way. Snare also revealed the truth about Garrus-9, and the level of Overlord's obsession with his final "game" with Megatron. Moments after Impactor gave Snare a merciful death, Overlord made his presence known in an explosive entrance. The fight quickly made its way to the rooftop of Garrus-9, where [[Guzzle (G1)|Guzzle]] was torn in half and used to dispatch Kup. Noting that Overlord talked too much, Impactor put a harpoon through his eye. However, this barely fazed Overlord, who beckoned on the survivors. As the Decepticon raised Springer by his neck, Overlord stomped Impactor into the rooftop. Springer tried to convince him that despite his apparent victory, the Autobot prisoners within Garrus-9 were released and would soon be upon them.

Overlord laughed. He'd already ordered all Autobot prisoners executed.

But Springer's death would have to wait. [[Perceptor (G1)|Perceptor]], [[Ironfist (G1)|Ironfist]], and [[Verity Carlo]] arrived from the [[Aequitas]] Chamber, and as their firepower knocked Springer from Overlord's grasp, Ironfist tossed Springer a huge chaingun-like weapon. Overlord shrugged off even its massive payload and slapped Springer to the ground, removing most of his face. "Sweet," Overlord smiled as he held Springer's skin in his hand. He shot Perceptor and was about to kill Ironfist as well when the newbie Wrecker warned the Decepticon to not get any closer. Overlord chortled, but Ironfist explained. Springer had shot Overlord with thousands of deterrence chips, and Ironfist, having downloaded Aequitas into himself, held the key to their detonation.

Thousands of explosions reduced Overlord to a flaming skeleton, but he was still functional. He cursed Ironfist (who fell unconscious) and Verity, the latter of whom he approached slowly and angrily. If Megatron arrived now to challenge him, how could Overlord meet his challenge in this sorry condition? But when Verity told him that Megatron was dead, he sank to his knees, stunned that while he had focused everything, every day of his life, on his fight with the Decepticon leader... said leader had never come for him and never would (a fact that Verity gleefully needled him over). And when Impactor, who had survived, leaped at the ablaze Decepticon, Overlord put up no fight, ready to die.

At some point Gigatron, the Overlord, crashed in [[Japan]], where he adopted a robot form resembling a shogun. With most of Earth's Decepticons offplanet with [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]], he was able to gather a small army of ten warriors, and he would infrequently clash with [[Metalhawk]] and his fellow Earthbound Autobots. Once, Gigatron searched in [[Kitakyushu]] for [[Musashi]]'s sword, but legends of the sword's strength were exaggerated.

Soon, Gigatron had set his sights on another potential source of power, [[Rarified Energon]]. The Autobots had been guarding it for a period of time, and had been moving it frequently to keep it out of the hands of the Decepticons. The bio of this figure stated that he was a dimension-hopper, which leaves the door open for him being the Masterforce character who jumped dimensions into the European toy bio continuity. Overlord did not have an American counterpart until 2003, when the ''Heroes of Cybertron'' line introduced "Gigatron". When following the attack [[Sephie Beller]] had herself augmented with Cybertronian technology, Starscream and Soundwave were concerned for their human ally, but she reacted badly to Starscream confining her to base, and Soundwave sent Ravage to talk to her. She had already gone to attack the Autobots, and when the Decepticons went to help, they stepped into an Autobot trap. With the Decepticons bound, the Autobots prepared a firing squad, and were going to shoot Soundwave first to stop the electronic jamming when Soundwave pointed out it wasn't ''him'' doing the jamming. The arrival of Blackrock piloting a [[Centurion (SG)|Centurion]] mech kept the Autobots distracted, and Soundwave freed himself using high-frequency vibrations. Unfortunately before he could do anything, Blackrock knocked him out with an EMP blast. He recovered in time to watch Sephie destroy the Centurion, and took Sephie and Rick back to base. He was disappointed when Sephie turned down a spot on the Decepticon team, though unbeknownst to him, she took the opportunity to copy his [[power chip rectifier]] before leaving. {{storylink|Transhuman}}

:Soundwave is a [[retool]] of [[Transformers: Universe (2008 franchise)|''Universe'' Classics Series]] [[Ironhide (G1)|Ironhide]], featuring a new head. His vehicle mode has a [[Cold Slither (band)|Cold Slither]] design on the side. Soundwave is armed with a double-ended weapon, which deploys a translucent melee blade from one end, and a gatling cannon from the other. His chest features an [[Automorph]]-like gimmick that sees mechanical detailing raise up behind his chestplate when his bumper is lowered. Soundwave's head is designed to look fully forward, rather than tilt down like Ironhide or Ratchet's toys. His headband will be a plastic piece sold separately at the Club store.

:There's a difference in plastic color in the official photos of the robot and vehicle modes. In robot mode, the piece behind his head is white, and in vehicle mode, that same piece forms the roof and is black. While the tinier image of the toy in robot mode within BotCon registration gives Soundwave a black crotch in addition to the piece behind his head, the final toy used a white piece behind his head while having a black crotch and solid-white roof in alt mode.
