==Synopsis==

After recalibrating his spark energy in the Decepticons to turn them into loyal servants, [[Megatron (RID)|Galvatron]] puts Sky-Byte in command of the next mission—and in command of the now-loyal Decepticons.

So Sky-Byte goes out to follow Koji wherever he goes, in hopes that the boy will eventually lead him to the Autobot base. Of course, he does, and Sky-Byte tells Galvatron that the base is somewhere inside a parking structure. And that parking's only free for the first 20 minutes, and he needs some quarters.

Down in the Autobot base, [[Side Burn (RID)|Side Burn]] is all up in [[Cerebros (RID)|Cerebros's]] face, telling him that he's an Autobot and needs to help protect Earth. Suddenly, Cerebros activates and explains how he and [[Fortress Maximus (RID)|Fortress Maximus]] function. [[X-Brawn]] promptly points out the flaws in the system, right before the Decepticons attack the parking structure.

The Autobots take evasive actions and use their "Oh crap, the bad dudes found our pad" plan, which involves all the Autobots going to one area and hiding, while Optimus leads the Decepticons and [[Predacon (RID)|Predacons]] to that area with Cerebros via a different route. Sky-Byte thinks he's cornered Optimus, but upon further observation, he discovers that Optimus has actually led him and the Decepticons into a trap. Every single Autobot is there, and Sky-Byte's like, "Crap."

There's a lake nearby, where nobody seems to notice the huge alien watercraft that is Galvatron just floating there amidst the swan paddle boats. That's also where our dear friend Kelly is. She sees a couple of Autobots and tries to ignore them by paddling away.

After Sky-Byte figures out he's trapped, Mega—er, Galvatron pops out from hiding and announces his master plan to control Fortress Maximus. Then he brings out his huge command center thing and fires a barrage of bombs onto the Autobots. The Predacons promptly hide behind some rocks, and the two-and-a-half-episode-long battle begins.

[[Ultra Magnus (RID)|Ultra Magnus]] shows up, and he and Optimus form [[Omega Prime]]. [[Landfill (RID)|Landfill]] forms and tries to make the first blow, but gets blown apart. Despite this, Omega Prime still calls Wedge "Landfill", but nobody seems to notice or care. [[Rail Racer (RID)|Rail Racer]] tries to shoot the command center in the butt, but gets blown back by ass-rockets. Then Wedge tries to attack the center all by himself, running and ranting about how he has the spark of an Autobot, but gets blown back by more ass-rockets. But his courage is not wasted, as it activates Fortress Maximus.

Galvatron transforms into hand mode, and we soon discover that it isn't only useful for catching doctors, it's also good for linking with huge purple command centers and fighting gigantic fortresses. Anyway, Fortress Maximus and Galva-command center duke it out, but in the end, Maximus knocks Galvatron to the ground. And there is much rejoicing. But not for long, because when there's twitching involved, you know something's up.

The fact he's hoping to replace that with Decepticon tyranny isn't really a concern. A fanatic at heart, he revels in every Autobot who suffers at Decepticon hands and doesn't register humans as anything more then "collateral Damage."

Megatron demands loyalty from the Decepticons, loyalty he gains by his awe-inspiring power. With the combined threat of a sharp mind, his [[fusion cannon]], a deadly sword and simple brute strength, there aren't many who'd dare cross him. Still, he has no problem manhandling troops as a gentle reminder.

While these stats often correspond at least loosely to the described abilities of the characters, parity ''between'' characters is virtually nonexistent. [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]], for instance, has traditionally maxed out most or all of his stats, despite the existence of much [[Omega Supreme (G1)|stronger, faster, fireblastier]] characters. The only category with anything really close to a sense of scale between characters is "Rank," where faction leaders tend to be 10s, group leaders tend to be 9s and 8s, and most others are below that. Tech Specs were present right from the start. With the very first Transformers also came a packaging gimmick: Kids were instructed to "use the special decoder inside to decipher your Tech Specs." A fuchsia criss-cross pattern obscured the blue line that indicated the various ratings, so overlaying a piece of clear red plastic made the blue line much easier to see.

This design was used for a number of years, but it was eventually dropped just before the end of G1 and has yet to return.

However, the Tech Specs tradition far outlasted the "decoder" gimmick. In fact, it once had even spread beyond the packaging and onto the toys themselves. The [[Headmaster]] figures contained abbreviated Tech Specs bar-graphs inside their chests. When the head was plugged into the body, bars would emerge on the graph.

It was [[Robots in Disguise (franchise)|RID]] that marked the first real break in tradition, brought on by a move to [[multilingual packaging|trilingual packaging]]. Toys on the smallest packaging cards, such as the [[Spychangers]], literally did not have room for character information. Most Deluxe-sized and larger packaging still retained bios, Tech Specs, and "art," but the bios were graphically separated from the "clip-and-save" box that contained the rest. In at least [http://www.bwtf.com/tfrid/toys/reviews/sidewaysaxer/mib.gif one case], creative use of space put the Tech Specs box at a 90-degree angle to the rest of the layout, including the bios. Later on, individually-carded Kay-Bee and Target [[exclusive]] versions of the six show-character Spychangers were released with bios and Tech Specs, since the exclusive packaging was English-only. All told, a little less than half of RID releases lacked bios and Tech Specs, which meant more than a third of the characters.

''Armada'' continued the departure from tradition, eliminating all character information from the packaging beyond names, allegiances, and a few trilingual "blurbs" noting the vehicle modes and conspicuous weapons or gimmicks. The toys came with sticker cards that had their pictures and names on them, but no further information. This was also true for the ''[[Universe]]'' line, which started halfway through ''Armada'''s run.

Some bios and Tech Specs did appear, but only on the Hasbro website, only for the main ''Armada'' characters, and only on a somewhat haphazard schedule. The fandom response ran from neutral to negative; certainly no one was ''happy'' about the dwindling output, especially since the supplementary character info had had the most impact on characters who had no other fiction.

But by the time of ''[[Energon (franchise)|Energon]]'', the in-package stickers had become trading cards, and in response to the fandom, each had Tech Specs on the back. So some more time passed before packs of trading cards with bios were released. Given that Transformers are not organic life and do not [[reproduction|reproduce sexually]], the origin, distinction, and exact meaning of many of these terms is frequently unclear.

== Possible Explanations ==

The [[Dreamwave]] [[More than Meets the Eye]] Guide provides a partial possible answer. According to the guide, when a spark naturally splits as it's being introduced to a protoform, it creates two robots who are "brothers" such as Sideswipe and Sunstreaker. When such a spark division is artificially induced, the less balanced and self-reliant pair created are referred to as "clones". (This definition of "brother" may or may not apply to RID Prime and Magnus, whose brotherhood was said to result from the special circumstance of having been created simultaneously by Alpha Trion).

However, the "[[Beast Era]]" widened the issue of reproduction with Rattrap referring to his "great-aunt" [[Arcee]] and in general the practice of Maximals and Predacons referring to the Autobots and Decepticons as their respective "ancestors", as well as themselves as being their "descendants", implying a direct genetic (for want of a better term) lineage. Various sources of debatable canonicity suggest that [[Optimus Primal]] is specifically descended from [[Optimus Prime]], usually through the phrase "his ancestor Optimus Prime" (though the events of [[Optimal Situation]] seem to prove that all Maximals could reasonably consider Optimus Prime their ancestor).
In the absence of sexual reproduction, the use and meaning of these genealogical references is difficult to explain. One possible explanation might be a situation such as when [[Airazor (BW)|Airazor]] is brought to life in Beast Wars. Her [[spark]] and [[protoform]] are heavily damaged, and Cheetor allows some of his parts to be used as replacements while [[Rhinox]] guides the procedure. To compare to humans, this is something like assisting with childbirth and donating blood or organs. It is unlikely that this happened enough to cause "descendants" as they are described, however.

Other family designations exist as well. [[Wheelie]] has "parents" who were lost in his crash on [[Quintessa]], according to some background material. The Mini-Con Twirl very specifically calls Falcia her "mother" (which Falcia ''hates'') and seems to treat Redline like a father, since the two's spark frame energies went into constructing her physical form. In the Armada cartoon, [[Side Swipe (Armada)|Side Swipe]] refers to [[Hot Shot (Armada)|Hot Shot]] as his brother after Hot Shot saves his life, indicating at least an understanding of the concept. The [[Unicron Trilogy]] universe has also used the term "cousin" for certain Transformers on occasion. The Japanese Generation 1 Victory manga features Decepticon wives and children. Even the live-action movie features an Optimus and Megatron who are brothers, and it is mentioned in the related Nintendo DS game that Megatron "took the spark" of their father.

Throughout the Transformers multiverse are many Transformers who consider themselves family and refer to each other as such. The most common case is when two Transformers regard each other as siblings: "brothers" (e.g. G1 [[Sideswipe]] and [[Sunstreaker]], or ''Robots In Disguise'''s [[Optimus Prime (RID)|Optimus Prime]] and [[Ultra Magnus (RID)|Ultra Magnus]]) or "sisters" ([[Roulette]] and [[Shadow Striker]]).

Given that Transformers are not organic life and do not [[reproduction|reproduce sexually]], the origin, distinction, and exact meaning of many of these terms is frequently unclear.

== Possible Explanations ==

The [[Dreamwave]] [[More than Meets the Eye]] Guide provides a partial possible answer. According to the guide, when a spark naturally splits as it's being introduced to a protoform, it creates two robots who are "brothers" such as Sideswipe and Sunstreaker. When such a spark division is artificially induced, the less balanced and self-reliant pair created are referred to as "clones". (This definition of "brother" may or may not apply to RID Prime and Magnus, whose brotherhood was said to result from the special circumstance of having been created simultaneously by Alpha Trion).

However, the "[[Beast Era]]" widened the issue of reproduction with Rattrap referring to his "great-aunt" [[Arcee]] and in general the practice of Maximals and Predacons referring to the Autobots and Decepticons as their respective "ancestors", as well as themselves as being their "descendants", implying a direct genetic (for want of a better term) lineage. Various sources of debatable canonicity suggest that [[Optimus Primal]] is specifically descended from [[Optimus Prime]], usually through the phrase "his ancestor Optimus Prime" (though the events of [[Optimal Situation]] seem to prove that all Maximals could reasonably consider Optimus Prime their ancestor).
In the absence of sexual reproduction, the use and meaning of these genealogical references is difficult to explain. One possible explanation might be a situation such as when [[Airazor (BW)|Airazor]] is brought to life in Beast Wars. Her [[spark]] and [[protoform]] are heavily damaged, and Cheetor allows some of his parts to be used as replacements while [[Rhinox]] guides the procedure. To compare to humans, this is something like assisting with childbirth and donating blood or organs. It is unlikely that this happened enough to cause "descendants" as they are described, however.

Other family designations exist as well. [[Wheelie]] has "parents" who were lost in his crash on [[Quintessa]], according to some background material. The Mini-Con Twirl very specifically calls Falcia her "mother" (which Falcia ''hates'') and seems to treat Redline like a father, since the two's spark frame energies went into constructing her physical form. In the Armada cartoon, [[Side Swipe (Armada)|Side Swipe]] refers to [[Hot Shot (Armada)|Hot Shot]] as his brother after Hot Shot saves his life, indicating at least an understanding of the concept. The [[Unicron Trilogy]] universe has also used the term "cousin" for certain Transformers on occasion. The Japanese Generation 1 Victory manga features Decepticon wives and children. Even the live-action movie features an Optimus and Megatron who are brothers, and it is mentioned in the related Nintendo DS game that Megatron "took the spark" of their father.

When [[Megatron (BW)|Megatron]]'s band of Predacon criminals stole the [[Golden Disk]] and escaped in their stolen ship, the ''[[Darksyde]]'', the Maximal science vessel ''Axalon'' was the only ship close enough with the [[Transwarp]] engines needed to pursue him.

Her crew at the start of the [[Beast Wars]] appears to have been newly assembled and the captain, [[Optimus Primal]], was new to command. However, the ''Axalon'' itself had already been in service for at least a while. The [[Dinobots (BM)|Dinobot]] [[Airraptor]] once served aboard her before the Beast Wars as interplanetary surveyor and navigator.

The ''Axalon'' engaged the ''Darksyde'' in battle as soon as both starships came out of transwarp, chasing the Predacon ship to a primative world that would later be revealed as [[Earth]]. Outgunned by the ''Darksyde'', the ''Axalon's'' engines were severely damaged and she was slowly dragged towards the surface by the planet's gravitational pull. Realizing their ship would not survive, their cargo of stasis pods were launched into safe orbit from the rear docking back. Despite this grim setback, Optimus Primal was not willing to allow their enemies to escape, and so ordered the forward plasma cannon to be fired at the ''Darksyde'', a well-targeted shot that crippled the Predacon warship. Soon afterwards, both ships crash-landed. {{Storylink|Beast Wars, Part 1}}

After crashing on Earth the ''Axalon'' became the Maximal's base of operations. Still flight worthy, the ''Axalon'' took her last trip into the air when the Maximals were able to salvage parts from the ''Darksyde'' when they mistakenly thought the Predacons had destroyed themselves in an energon explosion. The trip was brief and the crash, caused by Megatron, ensured that the ''Axalon'' would never fly again.

After Megatron's attempt to alter history, she was further destroyed by Predacon forces, as [[Rampage (BW)|Rampage]] and some of [[Tarantulas|Tarantulas's]] spider drones pulled her off the cliff that she was straddling. The ship's forward quarter, including the command center, split off and fell first, landing on dry land. The remainder, including her drives and primary computer center, fell afterwards and sank into the lake. The remains of the command center were salvaged to help fortify the [[Ark]] against Predacon attack. {{Storylink|Optimal Situation}} Rattrap would later undertake a dangerous mission below the lake's surface to salvage the [[Sentinel]] shield control module; a simultaneous underwater battle between Rampage and Depth Charge sent the ship's remains plummetting even further into the lake's depths.

In both "[[Primeval Dawn]]" and in [[Dreamwave]]'s comic book series, we see abandoned segments of the Maximal encampment.

All we really have going is that whomever animated this episode used completely different animation models with exaggerated porportions and styling.
