==Summary==
At the ''[[Darksyde]]'', the ships sensors detect two stasis pods. Desparate for troops, [[Megatron (BW)|Megatron]], [[Inferno (BW)|Inferno]], and [[Waspinator]] move out to secure them. However, Waspinator notices that there is only one moon now, and flies back into the base. Dinobot, looking from afar, also notices the planet's single satellite. Sneaking into the base, Dinobot corners Waspinator, who is looking at the [[Golden Disk (Voyager)|Golden]] [[Golden Disk (Vok)|Disk]]s. Grabbed by the thorax, Waspintor points out that there is only one moon now, and Dinobot explains the significance. They're on [[Earth]], and the Disks can fortell the future. In a surprising show of ambition, Waspinator offers to join forces with Dinobot to steal the disks, but Dinobot uses Waspinator to deactivate the shield (by throwing him at it) then escaping and shooting the computers. [[Blackarachnia (BW)|Blackarachnia]], hauling the deactivated body of [[Tarantulas]] to his lab, making a half-hearted effort to stop Dinobot. Having been reduced to crushed ball, Waspinator is forced to drag himself to the [[CR chamber|restoration chamber]]. Poor Waspy.

Meanwhile, the [[Maximal]]s have found another stasis pod. [[Tigatron]] and [[Airazor (BW)|Airazor]] are heading out for a more extensive survey to see what other effects the [[Planet Buster]] has had on the planet. [[Rattrap]] says that they should open up the pod, but there is no [[spark]] within, and the [[protoform]] is a blank. Rattrap asks what the use of that is, and Rhinox says there isn't a use—yet. Elsewhere, the two pods the Predacons are seeking activate their [[DNA scanner]]s, but the scanners malfunction. Two Transformers emerge, one a wolf-eagle hybrid, the other a scorpion-cobra hybrid. Neither recognizes the other, the scorpion-cobra speculates that he could beat the wolf-eagle up, and attacks. Inferno arrives, and attacks. Megatron, observing, alters their [[command code]]s to become Predacons. Introducing himself, the Predacon leader shows them that they are Transformers. The scorpion-cobra names itself [[Quickstrike (BW)|Quickstrike]], and the wolf-eagle names itself [[Silverbolt (BW)|Silverbolt]].

Elsewhere, Dinobot is talking to himself about the two disks. Do they hold the future, or just what might be the future? A quick look would confirm how he dies, but it could be used once, and Dinobot could not live unless he were master of his own fate. Destroying them would be a coward's act, so he resolves to note the truth, but later. Placing the original disk under a rock, he takes the alien disk back to the ''[[Axalon (BW)|Axalon]]''. At the Maximal base, Cheetor is sent to find Dinobot, while Rhinox hooks himself up to some equipment for an unnamed purpose. Cheetor spots the Preds, but is attacked. Being alerted, Rattrap prepares to unload [[Sentinel (BW)|Sentinel]] on them, only for the computer to inform him that any disturbance to the base could separate Rhinox's [[core conciousness]] from his body. Dinobot arrives (hiding the disk) and asks what's going on. As Rattrap explains the problems, Dinobot, carrying more armament than [[Roadbuster]], declares that they must take the fight away from the base.

At the ''Darksyde'', Tarantulas's mind is restored to his body, but he left a psychic link with Blackarachnia, in an attempt to control her. Megatron contacts the base, and Waspinator, finally revived, tries to tell Megatron what happened early, but Megatron orders them to link up with other Predacons. As Rattrap and Dinobot find Cheetor, the Predacons, doubling the Maximal numbers, prepare to attack.

Blackarachnia was born from one of the [[Maximal]] fallen [[Stasis pod]]s. [[Tarantulas]], watching a black widow fight and devour another spider, was inspired. [[Megatron (BW)|Megatron]], observing the slim and attractive Blackarachnia transform and strike a few poses, suggested that he had "ulterior motives behind her beast form selection." But, she was a Predacon, and that was what was important.

Blackarachnia made herself renowned among the ranks of both the Maximals and Predacons as a severe headache to Megatron. When Tarantulas found out about the [[Vok]], he tried to craft a stasis pod escape ship for himself, and she was there to forge a partnership {{storylink|Spider's Game}}. When [[Scorponok (BW)|Scorponok]] and Blackarachnia journeyed to a mysterious, floating island containing immense power, she was there to shove him out of the way and take control of the island herself, only to be defeated by [[Tigatron]] {{storylink|The Trigger, Part 1}}. When [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream]] took control of [[Waspinator]]'s body, she was right next to him when he betrayed Megatron, betraying Starscream ''back'' {{storylink|Possession}}. When she aided Tarantulas in breaking into the ''Axalon'' to acquire a stasis pod for conversion into an escape ship, she took over after a following Inferno incapacitated Tarantulas, intending to take the ship for herself. {{storylink|Other Voices, Part 1}} Unfortunately for her, this deception backfired on her in the form of a forced mind link between her and Tarantulas, which remained until she forced the spider into breaking it. {{storylink|Tangled Web}} When Tarantulas forced her to investigate Megatron's [[Golden Disk]] backups, she waited until Tarantulas was occupied to download and encrypt the recoverable information. {{storylink|Coming of the Fuzors (Part 2)}}

When the Vok were moments away from returning, Tarantulas and Blackarachnia both again teamed up in an attempt to flee the dying planet. Megatron, already aware of their next move, used their deceptive tendencies against them and acted unaware of their treachery. As they built their escape ship, he installed his own variant on the design, making it inescapable once sealed and in space. Though it did not destroy either of them, the result was even better: [[Optimus Primal]] wound up in the pod and was destroyed instead. {{storylink|Other Voices, Part 2}} Blackarachnia's wits saved her, as she convinced Megatron that he would need soldiers, which gave him reason to spare her life. She also, much to her disgust, ended up with a telepathic link to Tarantulas which allowed him control of her body. {{storylink|Aftermath}}

Forced by Tarantulas to hack into Megatron's private files and Golden Disk back-ups for him, she discovered that it contained the access codes for the [[Ark]]. Taking advantage of his temporary deactivation, she downloaded a copy, destroyed the files and told Megatron [[Dinobot]] destroyed them, while telling Tarantulas a different story, that Megatron had booby-trapped them. {{storylink|Coming of the Fuzors (Part 2)}} Neither of them (apparently) believed her, but neither showed this openly ''yet''... Meanwhile, Blackarachnia forced Tarantulas to end their psychic link by threatening to kill herself and take his mind with her. She also had Silverbolt refuse to fight her because she was female (to the annoyance of Rattrap). {{storylink|Tangled Web}}

When an energon blast sent her and Silverbolt into the middle of the dense jungles, they were forced to work together. Though attracted to the [[Fuzor]], Blackarachnia was endlessly frustrated by his seemingly idiotic chivalry and need to treat her specially. Megatron, listening in to their commlink chatter, was disgusted by the obvious romance going on. Blackarachnia rather liked the treatment and affection, though she held it under a firm charade of bitter irritation. {{storylink|Bad Spark}}

When the Predacons attacked the valley of proto-humans, Blackarachnia was teamed with Inferno. She did considerable damage to [[Dinobot]] before being blasted herself. {{storylink|Code of Hero}}

After confirming the location of the Ark, Megatron sent Waspinator to its location. Realizing what this meant, Blackarachnia abandoned her post and followed him. Silverbolt followed ''her'' and stubbornly refused to leave her alone. Exhausted and in a hurry, she conceded and told him to dig. The two broke through the mountainside and Blackarachnia had a good cackle over the Ark's power being "all mine!"... just as Megatron arrived. Having always intended for her to reach the Ark as he knew she had the access codes, he threatened to vape Silverbolt unless she did what he said. Bitterly, she agreed to his demands.

Blackarachnia used the Ark's security system to cover Megatron's back, not sure of what he was planning. Once he fired upon [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]], history began to change, wiping out all Maximals... {{storylink|The Agenda (Part III)}}which included herself. Not willing to die for Megatron, she activated [[Teletraan I]]'s security nets to force Megatron off the ship. With Silverbolt's help, she got the dying Autobot leader under life support and began the repairs. The Maximals, recognizing what she had done, reluctantly allowed her to join their ranks after an irate Megatron gave her the boot (in the form of nearly killing her). {{storylink|Optimal Situation}} (Quite what ''she'd'' intended to do with the Ark {{m-}} since she couldn't have altered the timeline without risking erasing herself {{m-}} was never explored.)

Later, Blackarachnia took the [[Transmetal driver]] and attempted to use it on herself. Silverbolt, not realizing what she was planning, bailed her out of the contraption. Like every good girlfriend, she began to chew him out, but was cut off as an energy surge made her lose control of her circuits. A security system Tarantulas installed had been triggered by her tampering with her core, and the only way to fix it was to cut the Predacon [[shell program]] loose. Reluctantly, she agreed. An attack on the Maximal base disrupted the attempt, and she was deactivated.

Distraught, Silverbolt took off to avenge her death. He easily subdued Tarantulas and was moments away from executing him when [[Rampage (BW)|Rampage]] attacked him. Blackarachnia appeared in the nick of time with her new and improved Transmetal 2 body, easily fought off Rampage and rescued Silverbolt. {{storylink|Crossing the Rubicon}}

Later, during Megatron's final assault on the Ark, Blackarachnia "emasculated" Rattrap's tail in an effort to reactivate the Ark. Seriously. {{storylink|Nemesis Part 2}}

In Beast Machines, Blackarachnia was distraught and confused. She was locked out of her robot mode, back in her original body, all of her allies were gone, Silverbolt had vanished, and she was being attacked by what looked like [[Cybertronian]] guards. Unable to count on her Maximal allies, Blackarachnia fell back upon her Predacon principles of survival of the fittest and was notably more withdrawn and skeptical than at the end of the Beast Wars.

She had a relatively easy time adapting to her new technorganic form, but she was still frustrated by the loss of Silverbolt. When [[Thrust (BM)|Thrust]] saved her life, having strange recollections of doing so before, her mind was set: He was Silverbolt, mutated and made evil by Megatron.

Using some of the organic fluid from the Cybertronian core, she trapped Thrust in some of her webs and forced his inner personality out, begging for Silverbolt to answer. The reply was not quite what she was looking for.

When [[Jetstorm]] attacked, he also was caught up in some of her organic goo...

...and his true personality emerged, sweeping Blackarachnia in his arms. Silverbolt returned, but just for a moment. The goo vanished, and the Vehicon's minds returned.

Later, Blackarachnia managed to force Jetstorm into a large pool of the organic goo, and his body began to change. Scanning a nearby vulture skeleton, he awoke in a new form.

Blackarachnia was startled by the change in him. Instead of the lovable, chivalrous knight in shining armor, he was a brittle, haunted bot, tormented by the images of the evil deeds he had done...done by choice. Though he gave up on himself, she never did, urging Silverbolt to forgive his past. It was only towards the end of ''Beast Machines'' that her efforts bore fruit...

Later, Hasbro's official website checklist featured listings for two "Halloween Horrorcon Value Packs" that were to be Wal*Mart [[exclusives|exclusives]]... which also likely explains why they were canceled. (Wal*Mart had taken a good half-dozen exclusives and released them more-or-less simultaneously, leading to a huge glut. A lot of other ''Transformers'' exclusives were canceled during the ''Universe'' era.) One of the sets was "[[Leatherhide]] Vs. Blackarachnia"... and thus, the mystery spider was confirmed, as the other test-shots in that group lined up with the name listings given in the sets.

: In 2005, the mold used for ''[[Alternators]]'' [[Decepticharge]] was presented as an upcoming release for the Japanese ''Binaltech'' line. Originally, Takara intended to name their version of the toy "[[Wildrider]]", but they ultimately had to abandon that idea because they couldn't get the trademark. Instead, they decided to give the toy an entirely new deco, as the Hasbro toy's deco didn't appeal to their ideal of "real-life accuracy". In robot mode, the toy was given a color scheme based on Transmetal 2 Blackarachnia, with the toy's name being changed to "Black Widow", Takara's name for the character. Though a [[bio]] and story chapter were written to accommodate it into the ''Binaltech'' fiction and Photoshopped images released through an online retailer revealed the intended color scheme, Takara ultimately decided to cancel the toy altogether, as they were fearing that another redeco (in addition to the upcoming Binaltech Asterisk toys) would be too repetitive. How the story would have dealt with this time-displaced character addition has not been revealed, and it is doubtful it ever will be. ''Binaltech'' author [[Hirofumi Ichikawa]] is unlikely to reveal confidential work-for-hire pieces, since he still works for Takara. Furthermore, plans to release the toy as part of a different line were never picked up again.

* Blackarachnia's original Beast Wars card art has her wearing a spike-studded collar. Dirty girl. Dirty, dirty girl.

* Even though Transmetal 2 Blackarachnia's toy has a unique faction-switching [[spark crystal]], the feature doesn't make sense in a fictional context. By that point in the Beast Wars television series, the Transmetal Driver had destroyed her Predacon [[shell program]], making her fully Maximal. (Though, to be fair, it had happened mere moments previously.)

* Blackarachnia exhibited what appears to be telekinesis not long after gaining her Transmetal 2 form, levitating a steel girder to stop Rampage. {{storylink|Master Blaster}} The ability only appeared once and was never explained. Fans speculate it may be a result of the TM2 Driver, an outgrowth of her psychic link with [[Tarantulas]], or both (or a wizard did it). Following her reformatting in ''Beast Machines'', Blackarachnia no longer possessed this ability.

* In the "jovial" Japanese dub of Beast Wars, Blackarachnia's character underwent a few small (depending on your point of view) changes. Firstly, she had a voice that can only be described as "bipolar". She would switch between her usual sultry, flirtatious voice to a screaming blood-thirsty maniac at the drop of a hat. Another notable change is that, while still a strong female character, she was made less independent and was occasionally prone to ''begging for mercy'' from her enemies, something she ''never'' did in the English version. Having always intended for her to reach the Ark as he knew she had the access codes, he threatened to vape Silverbolt unless she did what he said. Bitterly, she agreed to his demands.

Blackarachnia used the Ark's security system to cover Megatron's back, not sure of what he was planning. Not willing to die for Megatron, she activated [[Teletraan I]]'s security nets to force Megatron off the ship. With Silverbolt's help, she got the dying Autobot leader under life support and began the repairs. A security system Tarantulas installed had been triggered by her tampering with her core, and the only way to fix it was to cut the Predacon [[shell program]] loose. Reluctantly, she agreed. An attack on the Maximal base disrupted the attempt, and she was deactivated.

Distraught, Silverbolt took off to avenge her death. He easily subdued Tarantulas and was moments away from executing him when [[Rampage (BW)|Rampage]] attacked him. In Beast Machines, Blackarachnia was distraught and confused. She was locked out of her robot mode, back in her original body, all of her allies were gone, Silverbolt had vanished, and she was being attacked by what looked like [[Cybertronian]] guards. Unable to count on her Maximal allies, Blackarachnia fell back upon her Predacon principles of survival of the fittest and was notably more withdrawn and skeptical than at the end of the Beast Wars.

She had a relatively easy time adapting to her new technorganic form, but she was still frustrated by the loss of Silverbolt. When [[Thrust (BM)|Thrust]] saved her life, having strange recollections of doing so before, her mind was set: He was Silverbolt, mutated and made evil by Megatron.

Using some of the organic fluid from the Cybertronian core, she trapped Thrust in some of her webs and forced his inner personality out, begging for Silverbolt to answer. The reply was not quite what she was looking for.

When [[Jetstorm]] attacked, he also was caught up in some of her organic goo...

Later, Blackarachnia managed to force Jetstorm into a large pool of the organic goo, and his body began to change. Scanning a nearby vulture skeleton, he awoke in a new form.

Blackarachnia was startled by the change in him. Instead of the lovable, chivalrous knight in shining armor, he was a brittle, haunted bot, tormented by the images of the evil deeds he had done...done by choice. Though he gave up on himself, she never did, urging Silverbolt to forgive his past. It was only towards the end of ''Beast Machines'' that her efforts bore fruit...

In Beast Machines, Blackarachnia was distraught and confused. She was locked out of her robot mode, back in her original body, all of her allies were gone, Silverbolt had vanished, and she was being attacked by what looked like [[Cybertronian]] guards. Unable to count on her Maximal allies, Blackarachnia fell back upon her Predacon principles of survival of the fittest and was notably more withdrawn and skeptical than at the end of the Beast Wars.

She had a relatively easy time adapting to her new technorganic form, but she was still frustrated by the loss of Silverbolt. When [[Thrust (BM)|Thrust]] saved her life, having strange recollections of doing so before, her mind was set: He was Silverbolt, mutated and made evil by Megatron.

Using some of the organic fluid from the Cybertronian core, she trapped Thrust in some of her webs and forced his inner personality out, begging for Silverbolt to answer. The reply was not quite what she was looking for.

When [[Jetstorm]] attacked, he also was caught up in some of her organic goo...

...and his true personality emerged, sweeping Blackarachnia in his arms. Silverbolt returned, but just for a moment. The goo vanished, and the Vehicon's minds returned.

Later, Blackarachnia managed to force Jetstorm into a large pool of the organic goo, and his body began to change. Scanning a nearby vulture skeleton, he awoke in a new form.

Blackarachnia was startled by the change in him. Instead of the lovable, chivalrous knight in shining armor, he was a brittle, haunted bot, tormented by the images of the evil deeds he had done...done by choice. Though he gave up on himself, she never did, urging Silverbolt to forgive his past. It was only towards the end of ''Beast Machines'' that her efforts bore fruit...

By that point in the Beast Wars television series, the Transmetal Driver had destroyed her Predacon [[shell program]], making her fully Maximal. (Though, to be fair, it had happened mere moments previously.)

* Blackarachnia exhibited what appears to be telekinesis not long after gaining her Transmetal 2 form, levitating a steel girder to stop Rampage. {{storylink|Master Blaster}} The ability only appeared once and was never explained. Fans speculate it may be a result of the TM2 Driver, an outgrowth of her psychic link with [[Tarantulas]], or both (or a wizard did it). Blackarachnia was born from one of the [[Maximal]] fallen [[Stasis pod]]s. [[Tarantulas]], watching a black widow fight and devour another spider, was inspired. [[Megatron (BW)|Megatron]], observing the slim and attractive Blackarachnia transform and strike a few poses, suggested that he had "ulterior motives behind her beast form selection." But, she was a Predacon, and that was what was important.

Blackarachnia made herself renowned among the ranks of both the Maximals and Predacons as a severe headache to Megatron. When Tarantulas found out about the [[Vok]], he tried to craft a stasis pod escape ship for himself, and she was there to forge a partnership {{storylink|Spider's Game}}. When [[Scorponok (BW)|Scorponok]] and Blackarachnia journeyed to a mysterious, floating island containing immense power, she was there to shove him out of the way and take control of the island herself, only to be defeated by [[Tigatron]] {{storylink|The Trigger, Part 1}}. When [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream]] took control of [[Waspinator]]'s body, she was right next to him when he betrayed Megatron, betraying Starscream ''back'' {{storylink|Possession}}. When she aided Tarantulas in breaking into the ''Axalon'' to acquire a stasis pod for conversion into an escape ship, she took over after a following Inferno incapacitated Tarantulas, intending to take the ship for herself. {{storylink|Other Voices, Part 1}} Unfortunately for her, this deception backfired on her in the form of a forced mind link between her and Tarantulas, which remained until she forced the spider into breaking it. {{storylink|Tangled Web}} When Tarantulas forced her to investigate Megatron's [[Golden Disk]] backups, she waited until Tarantulas was occupied to download and encrypt the recoverable information. {{storylink|Coming of the Fuzors (Part 2)}}

When the Vok were moments away from returning, Tarantulas and Blackarachnia both again teamed up in an attempt to flee the dying planet. Megatron, already aware of their next move, used their deceptive tendencies against them and acted unaware of their treachery. As they built their escape ship, he installed his own variant on the design, making it inescapable once sealed and in space. Though it did not destroy either of them, the result was even better: [[Optimus Primal]] wound up in the pod and was destroyed instead. {{storylink|Other Voices, Part 2}} Blackarachnia's wits saved her, as she convinced Megatron that he would need soldiers, which gave him reason to spare her life. She also, much to her disgust, ended up with a telepathic link to Tarantulas which allowed him control of her body. {{storylink|Aftermath}}

Forced by Tarantulas to hack into Megatron's private files and Golden Disk back-ups for him, she discovered that it contained the access codes for the [[Ark]]. Taking advantage of his temporary deactivation, she downloaded a copy, destroyed the files and told Megatron [[Dinobot]] destroyed them, while telling Tarantulas a different story, that Megatron had booby-trapped them. {{storylink|Coming of the Fuzors (Part 2)}} Neither of them (apparently) believed her, but neither showed this openly ''yet''... Meanwhile, Blackarachnia forced Tarantulas to end their psychic link by threatening to kill herself and take his mind with her. She also had Silverbolt refuse to fight her because she was female (to the annoyance of Rattrap). {{storylink|Tangled Web}}

When an energon blast sent her and Silverbolt into the middle of the dense jungles, they were forced to work together. Though attracted to the [[Fuzor]], Blackarachnia was endlessly frustrated by his seemingly idiotic chivalry and need to treat her specially. Megatron, listening in to their commlink chatter, was disgusted by the obvious romance going on. Blackarachnia rather liked the treatment and affection, though she held it under a firm charade of bitter irritation. {{storylink|Bad Spark}}

When the Predacons attacked the valley of proto-humans, Blackarachnia was teamed with Inferno. She did considerable damage to [[Dinobot]] before being blasted herself. {{storylink|Code of Hero}}

After confirming the location of the Ark, Megatron sent Waspinator to its location. Realizing what this meant, Blackarachnia abandoned her post and followed him. Silverbolt followed ''her'' and stubbornly refused to leave her alone. Exhausted and in a hurry, she conceded and told him to dig. The two broke through the mountainside and Blackarachnia had a good cackle over the Ark's power being "all mine!"... just as Megatron arrived. Having always intended for her to reach the Ark as he knew she had the access codes, he threatened to vape Silverbolt unless she did what he said. Bitterly, she agreed to his demands.

Blackarachnia used the Ark's security system to cover Megatron's back, not sure of what he was planning. Once he fired upon [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]], history began to change, wiping out all Maximals... {{storylink|The Agenda (Part III)}}which included herself. Not willing to die for Megatron, she activated [[Teletraan I]]'s security nets to force Megatron off the ship. With Silverbolt's help, she got the dying Autobot leader under life support and began the repairs. The Maximals, recognizing what she had done, reluctantly allowed her to join their ranks after an irate Megatron gave her the boot (in the form of nearly killing her). {{storylink|Optimal Situation}} (Quite what ''she'd'' intended to do with the Ark {{m-}} since she couldn't have altered the timeline without risking erasing herself {{m-}} was never explored.)

Later, Blackarachnia took the [[Transmetal driver]] and attempted to use it on herself. Silverbolt, not realizing what she was planning, bailed her out of the contraption. Like every good girlfriend, she began to chew him out, but was cut off as an energy surge made her lose control of her circuits. A security system Tarantulas installed had been triggered by her tampering with her core, and the only way to fix it was to cut the Predacon [[shell program]] loose. Reluctantly, she agreed. An attack on the Maximal base disrupted the attempt, and she was deactivated.

Distraught, Silverbolt took off to avenge her death. He easily subdued Tarantulas and was moments away from executing him when [[Rampage (BW)|Rampage]] attacked him. Blackarachnia appeared in the nick of time with her new and improved Transmetal 2 body, easily fought off Rampage and rescued Silverbolt. {{storylink|Crossing the Rubicon}}

Originally, Takara intended to name their version of the toy "[[Wildrider]]", but they ultimately had to abandon that idea because they couldn't get the trademark. Instead, they decided to give the toy an entirely new deco, as the Hasbro toy's deco didn't appeal to their ideal of "real-life accuracy". In robot mode, the toy was given a color scheme based on Transmetal 2 Blackarachnia, with the toy's name being changed to "Black Widow", Takara's name for the character. Though a [[bio]] and story chapter were written to accommodate it into the ''Binaltech'' fiction and Photoshopped images released through an online retailer revealed the intended color scheme, Takara ultimately decided to cancel the toy altogether, as they were fearing that another redeco (in addition to the upcoming Binaltech Asterisk toys) would be too repetitive. How the story would have dealt with this time-displaced character addition has not been revealed, and it is doubtful it ever will be. ''Binaltech'' author [[Hirofumi Ichikawa]] is unlikely to reveal confidential work-for-hire pieces, since he still works for Takara. (Though, to be fair, it had happened mere moments previously.)

Though he does have a penchant for stuffy speeches, Optimus Primal is much more down-to-earth than his legendary [[Optimus Prime (G1)|namesake]]. He is committed to the Maximal codes of honor and moral judgment, but he does view them with some irreverence, and is not above finding loopholes or administering unorthodox solutions if necessary. ("Sometimes, crazy works," he says.) He is eternally loyal to his friends and respectful to his enemies. He is brave and selfless in battle. However, he is so committed to helping others that he can withdraw into a deep depression when he feels he has let them down. This is the only time he is self-absorbed.

Optimus Primal is extraordinary for not only being able to distinguish himself despite living in the shadow of Optimus Prime, but for perhaps even surpassing him, seeing as he [[Optimal Situation|saved the life of his namesake]] and ushered in a new [[technorganic]] Cybertron. It is possible Optimus Primal is the greatest Cybertronian hero who has ever lived.

Under the eerie shadows of a full moon Optimus Primal, a gigantic bat, [[Cheetor]], a swift-stalking cheetah, and [[Razorbeast]], a fearsome wild boar, hunt purposely through the depths of a jungle. Soon Optimus detects the thermal emissions and fusion activity from a building, which mean they've found their target. His motion sensors register what appears to be a harmless [[Earth]] creature below.

Before Optimus realizes his mistake the alligator lashes out with as smashing swipe of its tail, knocking Optimus into the swampy waters. The beast transforms and [[Megatron]] towers above him. The building ahead is the Predacon's genetics lab and he'll never let Optimus reach the secrets inside. He orders his troops to attack and everyone transforms to robot mode. The gigantic insects Tarrantulas and Waspinator engage Razorbeast and Cheetor respectively while Optimus and Megatron face off.

Optimus brags that the Maximal ''"[[bio-genetic morphing process]] has allowed us to create the perfect fusion of organic musculature and Transformers technology!"'' Megatron responds that his side did all that too, so nan-neh, but used the DNA of Earth's most vicious predators. When Optimus notes that the Maximals seem to be getting the upper hand, Megatron immediately detonates the lab and escapes, vowing to return with new forms and new plans when the Maximals least expect it. The Beast Wars have just begun!

Optimus Primal was the captain of the exploration ship [[Axalon (BW)|''Axalon'']] when his crew got word that the [[Predacon (BW)|Predacon]] criminal [[Megatron (BW)|Megatron]] had stolen the [[Golden Disk]] and a [[Darkside|ship]] with [[transwarp]] capabilities. Primal's was the closest vessel that also possessed a transwarp drive, so the ''Axalon'' was sent to engage them. Primal followed the Predacons through a transwarp portal and appeared above a mysterious planet, but both ships were damaged in the ensuing space battle, and before both ships crashed into the planet's surface below, Primal ordered that the [[stasis pod]]s carrying the rest of his crew to be ejected into orbit.

The planet was rich with [[energon]]—so much so that prolonged exposure would short out their bodies, so the Maximals and Predacons were forced to take organic forms from the local creatures. Primal took the form of a silverback gorilla. Primal remarked that his new form was "interesting" upon exit from the [[CR chamber]]. Estranged from his comrades, the Predacon [[Dinobot (BW)|Dinobot]] challenged Primal to a duel soon after their arrival, seeking command of the Maximals so he could, in turn, defeat Megatron. However, the Predacons saw the duel and tried to kill them both. Dinobot joined the Maximals after Optimus risked his life to stop him from dropping to his death. Dinobot later repaid him be saving him from a missile fired at him from Megatron. (That did cause the energon-laced mountain they were to explode, but nobody got killed). Both sides entrenched themselves on their new world, and the "Beast Wars" began. Strange unnatural sites and artifacts were discovered, leading Primal and the others to believe that aliens had seeded the primitive planet with experiments and traps. One such trap, the [[Standing Stones]], ensnared Primal's body for a short time, during which the Maximals scrambled to ascertain their chain of command. In his absence, the Maximals squabbled and fought over leadership, until finally his core consciousness was able to speak to them and name [[Rattrap (BW)|Rattrap]] as his replacement. Primal's body was subsequently retrieved from the Standing Stones, and he resumed command.

When [[Inferno (BW)|Inferno]] discovered evidence of the [[Vok]]'s imminent arrival, Megatron called a truce, to which Primal reluctantly agreed. While investigating a newly-created Vok installation, Primal was tortured and captured by the aliens, who spoke to him (in the form of [[Unicron]]) and told him of their plans to "sterilize" the planet. Barely escaping the Vok base, Primal returned to the ''Axalon'' to find it overrun by [[Tarantulas]] and [[Blackarachnia]], who had turned a space stasis pod into an escape ship in order to flee the doomed planet. As the planet's second moon was converted into a [[Planet Buster]], Primal took the ship to do battle with the superweapon, against the objections of his crew. Primal planned to detonate the ship's [[transwarp cell]] when in range of the weapon, after ejecting to safety. The plan worked—with the exception of the "ejecting" part. Megatron remotely seized control of the vessel, overriding Primal's ejection commands. The Predacon commander taunted Primal as he futilely beat his fists against the pod, until the detonation obliterated the pod, the Planet Buster, and Primal, reducing them all to so much space junk. {{Storylink|Other Voices, Part 2}}

Primal's [[Spark]] journeyed to the [[Allspark (dimension)|Matrix]], where it was soon recovered by [[Rhinox (BW)|Rhinox]] and placed in a [[blank]] [[protoform]], which became his new [[Transmetal]] body. Later on, Primal was captured and imprisoned in [[Metal Hunter|yet another Vok base]], this one controlled by his archnemesis Megatron. During a daring rescue attempt by the Maximals and Tarantulas, Optimus engaged in a furious battle with Megatron, destroying both the Metal Hunter and the alien disc. The Maximals then suffered a number of setbacks, including the death of [[Dinobot (BW)|Dinobot]], the destruction of [[Transmutate]], and Megatron's acquisition of the deadly [[Rampage (BW)|Rampage]]. However, the Maximals were soon greeted with good news: the realization that the [[transwarp wavefront]] created by the destruction of the Planet Buster would lead Cybertron to them, making a rescue operation possible. Help arrived soon enough, but in the unexpected form of the rebuilt [[Ravage (G1)|Ravage]], who had come to arrest Megatron for his crimes against the [[Pax Cybertronia]]. In the midst of this, Primal was forced to chastise new recruit [[Silverbolt (Fuzor)|Silverbolt]] for his dangerous relationship with Blackarachnia. Primal assisted Ravage in arresting Megatron, but was soon betrayed by the ex-[[Decepticon]], allowing Megatron to escape and reach the ''[[Ark]]'' in an attempt to assassinate [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]]. {{Storylink|The Agenda (Part III)}}

Primal was forced to take the great Autobot's spark inside himself to keep it protected. This caused his body to grow larger and stronger, gaining ground and air vehicle modes along with his previous gorilla form. Megatron sardonically dubbed him "Optimal Optimus" (ironically, no one else ever used that name). In his new form, he successfully protected Prime's spark until it could be returned to his repaired body, thus saving history and the future from destruction. {{Storylink|Optimal Situation}}

With the location of the ''Ark'' revealed and Megatron now desperate to end the war at any cost, Primal was forced to move his Maximals into the volcano where the ''Ark'''s hull lay. This new, defensive war was much more difficult to fight, and disadvantaged the Maximals severely, even with his new four-mode body and enhanced firepower. With the loss of their defense system, [[Sentinel]], the arrival of the rebellious and embittered [[Depth Charge]], the awkward and violent maturation of Cheetor, proto-humans to guard, the theft of the original Megatron's spark and the ensuing mutation of Megatron II, the introduction of the previously treacherous and morally ambiguous Blackarachnia into their ranks and her imminent Transmetallization, Optimus Primal had more than his share of problems to deal with.

The tide was finally turned when the Vok resurrected and combined [[Airazor (BW)|Airazor]] and [[Tigatron]] into the mighty [[Tigerhawk]], who obliterated the Predacon base. In the end, Primal's forces defeated Megatron's, and with the captured Predacon leader strapped to the roof of a borrowed Autobot shuttle, the Maximals at last headed home. Seemingly minutes after the shuttle departed for transwarp space, Optimus Primal suddenly found himself back in his original, organic gorilla body and thrust into a dangerous situation on an eerily deserted [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]], unfamiliar with how he arrived there and pursued by an army of [[tank drone]]s. Cornered by the mechanical terrors, Primal attempted to Maximize, but his parts only shifted painfully and his body was tortured by electric shocks. Using his ape-mode body's agility, he swung out of reach, and suddenly received a vision of a monorail-vehicle nearby. Swinging into the train car, he found [[Rattrap]], afflicted by the same [[transformation lock virus]] as Primal. Rattrap suggested "taking off these fur suits", but there was not time, for another squadron of tank drones caught them. It would have been the end for Primal and Rattrap, had the timely arrival of [[Cheetor]] not saved them. Once again, Primal received a vision, showing a pit. Heading (well, falling) into the hole, he and his companions were caught on a familiar spiderweb, courtesy of [[Blackarachnia]], who was back in her Season 1 spider form and severely weakened. Heading underground, Primal led the weakened Maximals to the depths of ancient Cybertron on Blackarachnia's webs. Falling into darkness, Primal threw a piece of scrap metal and discovered what appeared to be a wall of fire. He had, in reality, awakened the powerful and legendary [[Vector Sigma|Oracle]]. As the other three Maximals watched, Primal entered into the bowels of the computer, within which he was granted visions he could not yet comprehend, including the prophetic statement that "the seeds of the future lie buried in the past." The Oracle then began to "[[reformat]]" Primal. Primal emerged in a new, [[technorganic]] beast mode and urged the other dying Maximals to complete their "reformatting" as well. Shortly after this was achieved, the group was attacked by an underground army of Cycle Drones. During the ensuing fight, Primal was the first to master the "art" of transformation as he plunged into a deep pit. Flying out, Primal grabbed the nearest drone and demanded answers, but lost his concentration, causing him to revert to beast mode. {{Storylink|The Reformatting}}

Primal began to teach the three other Maximals the lost art of transformation, which was mastered by achieving an inner calmness and finding their spiritual centers. Though Cheetor and Blackarachnia were successful off the bat, [[Rattrap]] badgered him just to "give us the command codes." Primal and the others were attacked by a [[mole drone]], which broke their concentration and caused them to revert to their beast modes, so they fled. Primal also had to save Cheetor and Blackarachnia from a squadron of Aero-drones shortly after. {{Storylink|Master of the House}} Eventually, Primal and his allies learned that Megatron had broken free during their transwarp flight home and so arrived on Cybertron before them. Megatron had then conquered the planet and laid a trap for Primal's crew and any other Transformers returning to Cybertron.

A short time later, Primal's crew came across the bat-mode Cybertronian [[Nightscream]], who seemed to suffer from the same transformation lock virus that Primal had upon arrival. Nightscream led them to an underground tree, where Primal, Rattrap, and Blackarachnia ate the fruit and began to revert to their animal instincts. When Nightscream was injured in a Vehicon attack, Primal showed a new talent granted by the Oracle, reformatting the youth into a new, techno-organic body. However, Optimus was critically weakened by this and requested the over-eager Cheetor to take command in his absence. {{Storylink|Forbidden Fruit}}. No longer the inexperienced scientist of his youth, Primal was constantly haunted by the losses of [[Rhinox]] and [[Silverbolt (Fuzor)|Silverbolt]], and many of Rattrap's quips would send him into despair. During the events that followed, Optimus Primal came to be much more in touch with his spiritual side than he ever was before, due to an almost mystical connection to the Oracle. This granted him visions and intuitions, guiding him to complete its designs, though he had some trouble at first comprehending just what the Oracle wanted and how to go about it. However, Rhinox/Tankor would exploit this weakness and separate Optimus from the Oracle, which weakened him and left him lost.

Optimus Primal and the Maximals began to probe deeper into Cybertron and discovered a chamber of fossils and a strange, organic liquid. As the liquid flowed through the chamber, palm-like plants sprang up, revealing Cybertron's organic roots. When Tankor gained control of the Key to Vector Sigma, he infected the verdant orchard, transforming it and Nightscream into "technomatter". While Blackarachnia kept Nightscream under control, the others searched for a mole drone to drill deeper into the core and produce enough liquid to reverse the transformation. {{storylink|The Key}}

Primal later found the [[Plasma Energy Chamber]], a device lethal to technological beings. While Megatron readied the planetwide pulse of Vector energy, Primal began to harness the energies of the Chamber to destroy all technological life on Cybertron. As the two forces clashed, Primal's spirit was transported into the Matrix, the Transformers' afterlife. {{storylink|End of the Line}} As he and Megatron fought in the void, he pondered if this was his destiny, to fight his nemesis for eternity. Before him, he saw the faces of his comrades, the Maximals, berate him for his poor leadership and near-genocidal behavior. He then found himself back on prehistoric Earth, where a red-eyed copy of Primal attacked him, scolding him for his fanatical behavior. Finding himself back in space, he saw the collective sparks of Cybertron.

Around him, a forest of techorganic trees sprang up as he realized that his mission was not to destroy technology, but to create a balance, in the same way the Oracle had done for him.

As the [[Battle for the Spark]]s continued, the Maximals cultivated an orchard around the Oracle, but the plants fared poorly and began to wither. Worried, Primal wondered if the orchard was to be in vain. When an extraterrestrial shuttle crashed into Cybertron, it was Primal who led the Maximals toward the site. Discovering organic matter inside, the team was attacked by a strange plant-creature. Pursuing the beast towards the Oracle, Optimus reformatted the creature into a techno-organic plant. The plant introduced itself as [[Botanica]], a fellow Maximal scientist, and tended to the dying orchard, restoring it to vigorous life.

In the ultimate conflict between Primal and Megatron, Optimus sacrificed his life, plunging with Megatron into the heart of Cybertron and ushering in the reformatting that returned the deactivated population to life and gave birth to the new, technorganic Cybertron. As the surviving Maximals looked out over their new home, Primal and the Oracle spoke to [[Cheetor]], and Primal departed with the words "Transform, and Transcend", as his Spark joined the Matrix.

Both Megatron and Optimus Primal awoke inside a bizare temple-like spaceship which was hurtling through space. Neither had any memory of who they were or how they got there, only their own names and a feeling of discomfort between one another. The pair went about investigating the ship in search of answers. While Megatron's memory was lost, his personality remained mostly intact: he was more concerned with sezing control of the ship before Primal did in order to gain the upperhand.

They eventually found a data log and discovered that their sparks had been taken and they were reborn into new bodies (unbeknownst to them, bodies identical to their original forms). However, their memories were intentionally not uploaded into their new bodies. While searching the log they discovered that the ship's main power source was a [[Golden Disk]] lodged within a giant pillar. Megatron immediately raced to obtain the Disk and Primal followed him. The closer they got to the disk the more the ship attempted to thwart their advance by manipulating its atmosphere conditions.

Once they reached the chamber the ship's environment suddenly morphed to that of a decaying planet littered with the corpses of robots. The corpses came to life and began shambling toward them, intent on eating their sparks. They made short work of the zombies, leaving Megatron to obtain the Golden Disk and Primal with a feeling that he shouldn't entirely trust Megatron.

From another dimension beyond time and space, [[Primus]] recognized that something was amiss and sent one of his messengers to meet Primal and Megatron within the spaceship.

'''Megatron''' began with one goal: restoring glory and power to the Predacon race, with himself at the helm. What distinguishes Megatron from the countless others who share this goal is his chutzpah. He is willing to risk everything—time, space, himself—if need be. And there were times he would have made it happen were it not for [[Optimus Primal]].

Megatron is skillful at orchestrating vast schemes by manipulating others into doing them for him—an idle suggestion here, a conspicuously-planted object of interest there. He knows his enemies inside and out and exactly how to provoke them. He has no friends, only pawns, or occasionally, [[Inferno (BW)|pawns that are too reliable to risk losing]]. Because of this attitude, this superiority complex, he despises working with the very troops he needs to carry out his plans. His hubris does not make him very popular, and so he must rely on power and fear to rule them. In fact, he prefers [[Vehicon|mindless drones]].

Megatron is a gambler and can sometimes be a ham. (His manner of saying "Yesss..." is practically vaudevillian.) He has a twisted sense of humor and an over-developed sense of drama which rule everything he conceives, both long and short term. When he destroys you, he wants you to know that it was he who did this, and just how badly you were had. This is his greatest weakness. Like a Bond villain, he'll gladly boast to the hero at length about how smart and clever he was, giving his victim time to formulate a counterattack (he admits the Predacons sometimes gloat too much). He often sabotages himself by neglecting the quick and easy solutions for the bigger, meaner, and more complex.

Prior to the signing of the [[Pax Cybertronia]], Megatron was a field commander in the Predacon army, where he learned much about strategy and tactics. Upon ratification of peace with the [[Maximal Imperium]] most Predacons laid down their arms. Megatron refused and went rogue.

Though the ''Chromia 10'' and the Predacon ship were destroyed, the ''Darksyde'' was still followed by the ''Axalon''. After stealing the Maximal relic, the [[Golden Disk]], and [[Darksyde|a ship]], he and his crew were followed through a [[transwarp]] portal by the [[Axalon (BW)|''Axalon'']]. After crashing on a planet that was supposed to be [[Earth]], yet seemingly wasn't, both the [[Maximal]]s and the Predacons took organic beast forms to protect themselves against the massive amount of Energon radiation. Megatron now transformed into a purple ''Tyrannosaurus rex''.

Dinobot chastised Megatron, accusing him of leading the Predacons to the wrong planet and challenged Megatron for leadership of the Predacons. Megatron simply ignored the challenge and had Scorponok dispose of him. {{storylink|Beast Wars (Part 1)}}

Despite the loss of a formidable crony, Megatron positioned himself on the new world and the "Beast Wars" began. Being on a world filled with Energon allowed [[Terrorsaur (BW)|Terrorsaur]] to find a superhorde, and power himself to great levels. With this power, Terrorsaur was able to demolish Megatron in battle and take over the Predacons. However, through the Maximals' actions, the superhorde was destroyed. Terrorsaur was eventually ridden of his newfound power and returned to an angered Megatron, who was rebuilt by [[Scorponok (BW)|Scorponok]]. {{storylink|Power Surge}}

Again, Terrorsaur tried to usurp Megatron, this time using an apparently-turned [[Rattrap]], who used a device to paralyze Megatron. The Predacons argued over who would be leader, but agreed to put Rattrap and Megatron away for the time being. Megatron was able to easily escape using his secret voice commands, leaving Rattrap to his fate. Revealing himself to have escaped, Megatron allowed Terrorsaur to lead the Predacons in battle with the Maximals. Terrorsaur failed miserably, showing his ineptitude to the Predacons, which was Megatron's plan all along. {{storylink|Double Jeopardy}}

Megatron later formulated a plan to get off Earth. First, he had the other Predacons act dissatisfied with his leadership, causing a battle that apparently destroyed the Predacons, using a Maximal spy camera that he was aware of to play out the trick. Then, the Maximals scavenged the ''Darksyde'' for parts to repair the ''Axalon''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s stardrive. Dinobot discovered the deception and rushed to warn the leaving Maximals. In the scuffle, Megatron snuck aboard. In the ''Axalon'', he managed to knock out every Maximal on the ship but Rattrap, who he started crushing to death. An angered [[Rhinox (BW)|Rhinox]] woke up and threw Megatron off the ''Axalon''. However, Megatron's tail weapon was stuck in the console, causing the ''Axalon'' to crash. Again. {{storylink|Victory (Beast Wars episode)|Victory}}

Later, Megatron caught wind of the return of the [[Vok]] and called a ceasefire between the two factions, realizing he had more important things to worry about. The Vok did indeed return, and planned to destroy the planet the Transformers were on with their massive [[Planet Buster]] (cleverly disguised as the [[Moon (moon)|Moon]]). Optimus Primal managed to stop the planet buster after flying close to it within a modified stasis pod. Megatron added a little surprise for Primal within the pod, though; locking the door so that Primal could not escape and was destroyed when the planet buster exploded. {{storylink|Other Voices}}

The [[quantum surge]] from the exploding planet buster bathed Megatron in quantum energies, upgrading him into a [[Transmetal]]. Megatron quickly rallied his forces and attempted an all-out attack on the leader-less Maximals. Megatron and the Predacons took the upperhand in battle until a Transmetal Optimus Primal (brought back online by [[Rhinox]]) saved the day. {{storylink|Coming of the Fuzors (Part 1)}}

With both factions now aware that the planet they were stranded on was really prehistoric [[Earth]], Megatron was free to put his full plan into motion. Locating the crashed [[Ark]], Megatron attempted to alter history by assassinating the unconscious [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]]. By doing so, he intended to ensure the defeat of the [[Autobot]]s and thus the victory of the [[Decepticon]]s and Predacons. {{storylink|The Agenda (Part III)}}

The Maximals managed to save Prime's life by having [[Teletraan I]] repair his body while Optimus Primal kept his spark within his own structure, transforming his body into a more powerful form. The Maximals defeated Megatron and returned Prime's spark to its proper place. {{storylink|Optimal Situation}}

Megatron did not rest. He went on to [[Transmetal driver|reverse-engineer alien technology]], gained by means unknown, to create the [[Transmetal#Transmetal 2|Transmetal 2]] process and create himself a loyal clone of Dinobot. {{storylink|Feral Scream Part 1}} He also worked towards taking control of Optimus & temporarily seize the new Maximal base, allowing him to enter the Ark again. Wanting to replicate the effect Optimus Prime's spark had on Primal, he deliberately took the spark of the original Megatron and placed it in his body. Even this power was useless when [[Tigerhawk]] arrived and casually destroyed the Predacon base. {{storylink|Other Victories}} Desperate once again, Megatron investigated the now-deceased Tarantulas's base for anything of value—and found the legendary Decepticon battleship, the [[Nemesis (G1)|Nemesis]], rebuilt and with Transwarp capabilities. Bringing it out of the ocean depths, Megatron intended to pilot it back to the future and lay waste to the Maximals on Cybertron. {{storylink|Nemesis Part 1}}

First, however, he planned to annihilate the entire Ark rather than simply Optimus Prime—an act Tarantulas had early planned that would've wiped out Decepticon descendants as well as Autobots. (Taking G1 Megatron's spark with him would have most likely altered time as well) In this final battle, Megatron was quoting heavily from the [[Covenant of Primus]] holy texts and declared himself the "Alpha and Omega" that prophesied, drunk off his own power; it's possible he believed the resulting timestorm wouldn't affect him as it would the rest of his race.

Primal infiltrated the Nemesis and kept Megatron busy until Rhinox could fly a shuttlecraft through the bridge and take the Predacon out. The Nemesis crashed a second time and thus preserved history. [[Antagony]], future-born Herald Maximo of [[Shokaract]], arrived on prehistoric Earth to protect the Dark Essence of [[Unicron]]. She attempted to terminate Megatron, who quickly conned her into fighting Optimus and then took her captive when she went into stasis lock. {{storylink|Visitations}}

He began patiently (and happily) torturing her for information on the future she came from, and when that failed he hacked into her mind using a nanoprobe "mind drill". That triggered a suicide device that killed her before he could gain any information; Megatron was left with no information, beyond that her master would surely try again...

Almost immediately after his transformation into dragon form, Megatron detected a temporal breach. Having his troops ambush the Maximals (who had also detected), he attempted to reach the time-traveller ([[Windrazor (BW)|Windrazor) and gain access to the future, not caring what would happen if he took the original Megatron's spark with him. In the process, he encountered the Dark Essence and almost became a willing vessel for it, until it realised Windrazor would be easier to control. When the Fuzor fought the influence off, Shokaract himself emerged...{{storylink|Herald, Covenant, Schism, Paradox}}

Megatron's reaction to a horrifically powerful spark-devouring demigod, and time & space being shattered into a chaotic maelstrom... was to blackmail said demigod by opening fire on the Dark Essence of the Chaos-Bringer, demanding knowledge of the future or he'd cause the erasure of Shokaract's future. "Beast Megatron" took command of the Decepticons, leading them on a quest to collect a powerful element, [[solitarium]], from within the Earth. Beast Megatron's plans were quickly thwarted by [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]] and a troop of time-displaced Autobots and Maximals, including [[Star Saber (G1)|Star Saber]], [[Victory Leo]], [[Lio Convoy]] and Beast Megatron's arch nemesis, [[Optimus Primal]].

Beast Megatron later discovered a large deposit of solitarium beneath [[New York City]], and along with [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream]], [[Smokesniper]], [[Gigant Bomb]] and [[Wingstun]], laid waste to the Big Apple. The Autobots, accompanied by [[Reverse Convoy]], arrived and dealt with Beast Megatron's forces quickly. However, Reverse Convoy revealed himself to be the original Megatron in disguise and betrayed them. Now going by the name [[Megatron (G1)#Robot Masters (Japan-only)|Rebirth Megatron]], he teamed up with Beast Megatron and the pair made trouble for the Autobot commanders. However, the Autobots were able to defeat the two Megatrons, sending the villains into retreat.

After dispatching [[Rampage (BW)|Rampage]] and [[Inferno (BW)|Inferno]] to oversee the installation of [[Sentinel]] into the [[Darkside]], Megatron was attacked by [[Magmatron (BW)|Magmatron]], who had been assigned to arrest him by the [[Tripredacus Council]]. Although Megatron proved more than a match for the experienced Predacon general individually, he was ambushed and paralyzed by [[Iguanus (BW)|Iguanus]] and [[Drill Bit (BW)|Drill Bit]]. Breaking free from his constraints on the Autobot shuttle while it traveled through transwarp space, Megatron arrived back home on Cybertron well before the Maximals did. Using technology of his own devising, he took over the entire planet, and stored the [[spark]] of every last inhabitant under his citadel.

Additionally, Megatron seemed to have undergone a change. Gone was the ham who sought conquest for the sake of glory and power. He now spoke as if a god, almost reminiscent of his quotes from the Covenant of Primus. His actions were based not on the thirst for revenge on Maximals but in hopes of becoming a grand liberator for their kind. In addition, while as recently as the final battle of the Beast Wars, he would flatten a subordinate for even mentioning "the H word" ("honor"), he now would keep his word to his enemies, even at the risk of future losses. Further, at some point in this period, Megatron became convinced that beast modes and other vestiges of the organic were an abomination that should be scoured from Cybertron, leaving only technological purity. (Before he had seemed perfectly pleased with his dinosaur and dragon beast modes and, in fact, seemed to revel in them.) This was a new and even madder Megatron.

When the Maximals arrived in their shuttle, they found the planet empty aside from countless [[Vehicon|mindless drones]] controlled by Megatron. Megatron's drones immediately bombarded the Maximals with [[devolving gas]] to revert their powerful [[Transmetal]] bodies to normal beast mode bodies, and they were also affected by a [[transformation lock virus]] which Megatron had used to help him conquer the planet in the first place.

Despite his best efforts, the Maximals escaped, and learned to transform again after Primal used the [[Oracle]]'s power to [[reformatting|reformat]] them. They began making short work of his Vehicons, so he removed three sparks from his collection to create [[Vehicon general]]s which could think on their feet in battle. For the generals he chose sparks of Transformers that the Maximals already knew, such that if they ever discovered the sparks' identities, they would be reluctant to destroy them: [[Silverbolt (Fuzor)|Silverbolt]] became [[Jetstorm (BM)|Jetstorm]], [[Rhinox (BW)|Rhinox]] became [[Tankor]], and [[Waspinator]] became [[Thrust (BM)|Thrust]]. He also repeatedly reverted to beast mode whenever he was enraged, being unable to fully eradicate it—but unwilling to take the momentary risk of transferring his spark to a completely Vehicon body.

Rhinox awakened and went rogue, planning a grand scheme to usurp Megatron's dominance, but Megatron effortlessly seized control of his traitor-general's evil plan at the last minute & almost wiped out all resistance with the [[Key to Vector Sigma]]. At the last moment, Optimus unleashed the [[Plasma Energy Chamber]] force {{storylink|End Of The Line}} and the combined energies destroyed Megatron's body. He was presumed dead, but the combined energies had actually succeeded in separating his organic half from his body—unfortunately, his spark went with it and was now trapped in a purely organic Transformer. He took the identity of "innocent" Maximal [[Savage/Noble|Noble]] and, preying on [[Nightscream]]'s survivor guilt and Optimus's inherent goodness, got the Maximals to help transfer his spark to the [[Grand Mal]], a vessel shaped in his own head. {{storylink|Prometheus Unbound}}

With Tankor destroyed and Jetstorm eventually reformatted into Silverbolt, Megatron used the sparks of famous generals [[Obsidian (BM)|Obsidian]] and [[Strika]] to replace them. {{storylink|Sparkwar Pt. I: The Strike}} He also managed to gain a link to the [[Vector Sigma|Oracle]] itself, stealing the knowledge from Primal. {{storylink|Sparkwar Pt. Immediately following this, Megatron launched an all-out battle for the sparks and suceeded in capturing them, as well as the sparks of all the Maximals and obliterating their [[technorganic]] orchard—leaving just Optimus Primal and himself as the only two Transformers on the entire planet. To add insult to injury, he uploaded his spark into a copy of Primal's old Optimal Optimus form. Over the season, his personality had gradually become more like that of his Beast Wars self, and by this point he was once again hamming it up—revelling in his victory, mocking his enemies (his stated reason for copying Optimus' old body) and deliberately not killing Optimus outright, and having melodramatic outbursts when in his new body.

At the end of a fierce one-on-one fight, Megatron won and began consuming his amassed sparks, growing ever more powerful and planning to become both the new Matrix and the new core consciousness of Cybertron. However, he'd made his old mistake—leaving Optimus alive (to make him watch his "ascension") instead of killing him. When he attempted to use the [[Key to Vector Sigma]] to transform the planet's [[organic core]] into [[technomatter]], Primal managed to dislodge them both. They plummeted into the planet's goopy core and from there, Primal was able to reformat the entire planet, destroying himself and Megatron completely, but freeing all the lost sparks to repopulate their newly redecorated planet. {{storylink|Endgame Pt. Both Megatron and Optimus Primal awoke inside a bizarre temple-like spaceship which was hurtling through space. Neither had any memory of who they were or how they got there, only their own names and a feeling of discomfort between one another. The pair went about investigating the ship in search of answers. While Megatron's memory was lost, his personality remained mostly intact: he was more concerned with seizing control of the ship before Primal did in order to gain the upper hand.

They eventually found a data log and discovered that their sparks had been taken and they were reborn into new bodies (unbeknownst to them, bodies identical to their original Earth forms). However, their memories were intentionally not uploaded into their new bodies. While searching the log they discovered that the ship's main power source was a [[Golden Disk]] lodged within a giant pillar. Megatron immediately raced to obtain the Disk and Primal followed him. The closer they got to the disk the more the ship attempted to thwart their advance by manipulating its atmosphere conditions.

Once they reached the chamber the ship's environment suddenly morphed to that of a decaying planet littered with the corpses of robots. The corpses came to life and began shambling toward them, intent on eating their sparks. They made short work of the zombies, leaving Megatron to obtain the Golden Disk and Primal with a feeling that he shouldn't entirely trust Megatron.

From another dimension beyond time and space, [[Primus]] recognized that something was amiss and sent one of his messengers to meet Primal and Megatron within the spaceship.

When [[Optimus Primal]]'s spark is revived from the within the Matrix to protect the multiverse, this action freed Megatron's spark as well. The reborn Megatron returned to the ranks of the Predacons, but this time, Optimus Primal found himself in an uneasy alliance with him against Unicron. Megatron traveled with his old nemesis from universe to universe, wherever the growing multiversal conflict had spread. But now with Unicron disappeared into the [[Unicron Singularity]], it remains to be seen whether Megatron's insane ambition will resurface.

Prior to the Universe Conflict an alternate dimension's Megatron was killed by a [[Razorclaw (Universe)|Tigerhawk]] who was corrupted by the Vok. Yet another dimension's Megatron was killed by it's realities [[Obsidian (Universe)|Obsidian]] and [[Tankor (Universe Decepticon)|Tankor]]. All three Megatron-murderers were eventualy promoted to the rank of [[Unicron's General]]. It seems that killing Megatron may be part of Unicron's criteria for choosing a General.

When Megatron was defeated by Nightscream, the spirit of Rhinox attempted to act as a spirit guide and redeem the tyrant. While briefly tempted to move on, his repeated returns to Cybertron (in [[Spark of Darkness]]) convinced him that godhood was still within his reach and he erased Rhinox's spark from existence.

'''Megatron''' began with one goal: restoring glory and power to the Predacon race, with himself at the helm. What distinguishes Megatron from the countless others who share this goal is his chutzpah. He is willing to risk everything—time, space, himself—if need be. And there were times he would have made it happen were it not for [[Optimus Primal]].

Megatron is skillful at orchestrating vast schemes by manipulating others into doing them for him—an idle suggestion here, a conspicuously-planted object of interest there. He knows his enemies inside and out and exactly how to provoke them. He has no friends, only pawns, or occasionally, [[Inferno (BW)|pawns that are too reliable to risk losing]]. Because of this attitude, this superiority complex, he despises working with the very troops he needs to carry out his plans. His hubris does not make him very popular, and so he must rely on power and fear to rule them. In fact, he prefers [[Vehicon|mindless drones]].

Megatron is a gambler and can sometimes be a ham. (His manner of saying "Yesss..." is practically vaudevillian.) He has a twisted sense of humor and an over-developed sense of drama which rule everything he conceives, both long and short term. When he destroys you, he wants you to know that it was he who did this, and just how badly you were had. This is his greatest weakness. Like a Bond villain, he'll gladly boast to the hero at length about how smart and clever he was, giving his victim time to formulate a counterattack (he admits the Predacons sometimes gloat too much). He often sabotages himself by neglecting the quick and easy solutions for the bigger, meaner, and more complex.

Prior to the signing of the [[Pax Cybertronia]], Megatron was a field commander in the Predacon army, where he learned much about strategy and tactics. Upon ratification of peace with the [[Maximal Imperium]] most Predacons laid down their arms. Megatron refused and went rogue.

Unfortunately for Cryotek, "some day" was today—Megatron had everyone on the mission who wasn't loyal to him killed, had the data for the location of the Disk secretly decoded by [[Tarantulas]], and then kept it for himself while directing the Maximals to his tutor. On Cybertron, Megatron wore removable transformable armor, which transformed into a missile-launching armored platform, over his basic bodyframe (which transforms into a hovertank). This quickly-discarded outer shell was possibly used to comply with the ratification of the [[Pax Cybertronia]], which required Predacons to lay down their arms. A Predacon field commander before the peace, Megatron refused to comply with these new regulations and struck out on his own to destroy the [[Maximal Imperium]].

With some [[Cryotek|help]] from [[Divebomb (G1)|various sources]], he assembled a crew of ragtag criminals and miscreants for the purpose of stealing the Golden Disk and using it to find [[Earth]]. Succeeding in stealing the disk, he, [[Dinobot (BW)|his lieutenant]], and [[Scorponok (BW)|another accomplice]] fought their way out of the [[Archives]], eliminating [[Unit 1|one guard]] and dodging [[Tigatron|another]]. They were swiftly picked up by the ''[[Darksyde]]'', a ship stolen by the rest of their crew.

Megatron instructed [[Tarantulas]] to study the disk for the coordinates of Earth while the ''Darkside'' battled its several pursuers. Although they were followed by the Maximal ships [[Axalon (BW)|''Axalon'']] and the ''[[Chromia 10]]'', the ''Darksyde''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s mission was also aided by a third ship crewed by the Predacon agents [[Laserbeak (G1)|Laserbeak]] and [[Buzzsaw (G1)|Buzzsaw]]. Though the ''Chromia 10'' and the Predacon ship were destroyed, the ''Darksyde'' was still followed by the ''Axalon''. After stealing the Maximal relic, the [[Golden Disk]], and [[Darksyde|a ship]], he and his crew were followed through a [[transwarp]] portal by the [[Axalon (BW)|''Axalon'']]. After crashing on a planet that was supposed to be [[Earth]], yet seemingly wasn't, both the [[Maximal]]s and the Predacons took organic beast forms to protect themselves against the massive amount of Energon radiation. Megatron now transformed into a purple ''Tyrannosaurus rex''.

Dinobot chastised Megatron, accusing him of leading the Predacons to the wrong planet and challenged Megatron for leadership of the Predacons. Megatron simply ignored the challenge and had Scorponok dispose of him. {{storylink|Beast Wars (Part 1)}}

Despite the loss of a formidable crony, Megatron positioned himself on the new world and the "Beast Wars" began. Being on a world filled with Energon allowed [[Terrorsaur (BW)|Terrorsaur]] to find a superhorde, and power himself to great levels. With this power, Terrorsaur was able to demolish Megatron in battle and take over the Predacons. However, through the Maximals' actions, the superhorde was destroyed. Terrorsaur was eventually ridden of his newfound power and returned to an angered Megatron, who was rebuilt by [[Scorponok (BW)|Scorponok]]. {{storylink|Power Surge}}

Again, Terrorsaur tried to usurp Megatron, this time using an apparently-turned [[Rattrap]], who used a device to paralyze Megatron. The Predacons argued over who would be leader, but agreed to put Rattrap and Megatron away for the time being. Megatron was able to easily escape using his secret voice commands, leaving Rattrap to his fate. Revealing himself to have escaped, Megatron allowed Terrorsaur to lead the Predacons in battle with the Maximals. Terrorsaur failed miserably, showing his ineptitude to the Predacons, which was Megatron's plan all along. {{storylink|Double Jeopardy}}

Megatron later formulated a plan to get off Earth. First, he had the other Predacons act dissatisfied with his leadership, causing a battle that apparently destroyed the Predacons, using a Maximal spy camera that he was aware of to play out the trick. Then, the Maximals scavenged the ''Darksyde'' for parts to repair the ''Axalon''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s stardrive. Dinobot discovered the deception and rushed to warn the leaving Maximals. In the scuffle, Megatron snuck aboard. In the ''Axalon'', he managed to knock out every Maximal on the ship but Rattrap, who he started crushing to death. An angered [[Rhinox (BW)|Rhinox]] woke up and threw Megatron off the ''Axalon''. However, Megatron's tail weapon was stuck in the console, causing the ''Axalon'' to crash. Later, Megatron caught wind of the return of the [[Vok]] and called a ceasefire between the two factions, realizing he had more important things to worry about. The Vok did indeed return, and planned to destroy the planet the Transformers were on with their massive [[Planet Buster]] (cleverly disguised as the [[Moon (moon)|Moon]]). Optimus Primal managed to stop the planet buster after flying close to it within a modified stasis pod. Megatron added a little surprise for Primal within the pod, though; locking the door so that Primal could not escape and was destroyed when the planet buster exploded. {{storylink|Other Voices}}

The [[quantum surge]] from the exploding planet buster bathed Megatron in quantum energies, upgrading him into a [[Transmetal]]. Megatron quickly rallied his forces and attempted an all-out attack on the leader-less Maximals. Megatron and the Predacons took the upperhand in battle until a Transmetal Optimus Primal (brought back online by [[Rhinox]]) saved the day. {{storylink|Coming of the Fuzors (Part 1)}}

With both factions now aware that the planet they were stranded on was really prehistoric [[Earth]], Megatron was free to put his full plan into motion. Locating the crashed [[Ark]], Megatron attempted to alter history by assassinating the unconscious [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]]. By doing so, he intended to ensure the defeat of the [[Autobot]]s and thus the victory of the [[Decepticon]]s and Predacons. {{storylink|The Agenda (Part III)}}

The Maximals managed to save Prime's life by having [[Teletraan I]] repair his body while Optimus Primal kept his spark within his own structure, transforming his body into a more powerful form. The Maximals defeated Megatron and returned Prime's spark to its proper place. {{storylink|Optimal Situation}}

Megatron did not rest. He went on to [[Transmetal driver|reverse-engineer alien technology]], gained by means unknown, to create the [[Transmetal#Transmetal 2|Transmetal 2]] process and create himself a loyal clone of Dinobot. {{storylink|Feral Scream Part 1}} He also worked towards taking control of Optimus & temporarily seize the new Maximal base, allowing him to enter the Ark again. Wanting to replicate the effect Optimus Prime's spark had on Primal, he deliberately took the spark of the original Megatron and placed it in his body. He was transformed into a powerful dragon and able to give Optimus Primal a sound beating, until chased away by the recovered Maximal group. {{Storylink|Master Blaster}}

Even this power was useless when [[Tigerhawk]] arrived and casually destroyed the Predacon base. {{storylink|Other Victories}} Desperate once again, Megatron investigated the now-deceased Tarantulas's base for anything of value—and found the legendary Decepticon battleship, the [[Nemesis (G1)|Nemesis]], rebuilt and with Transwarp capabilities. Bringing it out of the ocean depths, Megatron intended to pilot it back to the future and lay waste to the Maximals on Cybertron. {{storylink|Nemesis Part 1}}

First, however, he planned to annihilate the entire Ark rather than simply Optimus Prime—an act Tarantulas had early planned that would've wiped out Decepticon descendants as well as Autobots. (Taking G1 Megatron's spark with him would have most likely altered time as well) In this final battle, Megatron was quoting heavily from the [[Covenant of Primus]] holy texts and declared himself the "Alpha and Omega" that prophesied, drunk off his own power; it's possible he believed the resulting timestorm wouldn't affect him as it would the rest of his race.

Primal infiltrated the Nemesis and kept Megatron busy until Rhinox could fly a shuttlecraft through the bridge and take the Predacon out. The Nemesis crashed a second time and thus preserved history. After returning the original Megatron's spark to its proper body, the Maximals headed back to Cybertron with the incarcerated Megatron shackled to the outside of their ship. {{Storylink|Nemesis Part 2}}

[[Antagony]], future-born Herald Maximo of [[Shokaract]], arrived on prehistoric Earth to protect the Dark Essence of [[Unicron]]. She attempted to terminate Megatron, who quickly conned her into fighting Optimus and then took her captive when she went into stasis lock. {{storylink|Visitations}}

He began patiently (and happily) torturing her for information on the future she came from, and when that failed he hacked into her mind using a nanoprobe "mind drill". That triggered a suicide device that killed her before he could gain any information; Megatron was left with no information, beyond that her master would surely try again...

Almost immediately after his transformation into dragon form, Megatron detected a temporal breach. Having his troops ambush the Maximals (who had also detected), he attempted to reach the time-traveller ([[Windrazor (BW)|Windrazor) and gain access to the future, not caring what would happen if he took the original Megatron's spark with him. In the process, he encountered the Dark Essence and almost became a willing vessel for it, until it realised Windrazor would be easier to control. When the Fuzor fought the influence off, Shokaract himself emerged...{{storylink|Herald, Covenant, Schism, Paradox}}

Megatron's reaction to a horrifically powerful spark-devouring demigod, and time & space being shattered into a chaotic maelstrom... was to blackmail said demigod by opening fire on the Dark Essence of the Chaos-Bringer, demanding knowledge of the future or he'd cause the erasure of Shokaract's future. "Beast Megatron" took command of the Decepticons, leading them on a quest to collect a powerful element, [[solitarium]], from within the Earth. Beast Megatron's plans were quickly thwarted by [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]] and a troop of time-displaced Autobots and Maximals, including [[Star Saber (G1)|Star Saber]], [[Victory Leo]], [[Lio Convoy]] and Beast Megatron's arch nemesis, [[Optimus Primal]].

Beast Megatron later discovered a large deposit of solitarium beneath [[New York City]], and along with [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream]], [[Smokesniper]], [[Gigant Bomb]] and [[Wingstun]], laid waste to the Big Apple. The Autobots, accompanied by [[Reverse Convoy]], arrived and dealt with Beast Megatron's forces quickly. However, Reverse Convoy revealed himself to be the original Megatron in disguise and betrayed them. Now going by the name [[Megatron (G1)#Robot Masters (Japan-only)|Rebirth Megatron]], he teamed up with Beast Megatron and the pair made trouble for the Autobot commanders. He now spoke as if a god, almost reminiscent of his quotes from the Covenant of Primus. In addition, while as recently as the final battle of the Beast Wars, he would flatten a subordinate for even mentioning "the H word" ("honor"), he now would keep his word to his enemies, even at the risk of future losses. For the generals he chose sparks of Transformers that the Maximals already knew, such that if they ever discovered the sparks' identities, they would be reluctant to destroy them: [[Silverbolt (Fuzor)|Silverbolt]] became [[Jetstorm (BM)|Jetstorm]], [[Rhinox (BW)|Rhinox]] became [[Tankor]], and [[Waspinator]] became [[Thrust (BM)|Thrust]]. He also repeatedly reverted to beast mode whenever he was enraged, being unable to fully eradicate it—but unwilling to take the momentary risk of transferring his spark to a completely Vehicon body.

Rhinox awakened and went rogue, planning a grand scheme to usurp Megatron's dominance, but Megatron effortlessly seized control of his traitor-general's evil plan at the last minute & almost wiped out all resistance with the [[Key to Vector Sigma]]. To add insult to injury, he uploaded his spark into a copy of Primal's old Optimal Optimus form. Over the season, his personality had gradually become more like that of his Beast Wars self, and by this point he was once again hamming it up—revelling in his victory, mocking his enemies (his stated reason for copying Optimus' old body) and deliberately not killing Optimus outright, and having melodramatic outbursts when in his new body.

At the end of a fierce one-on-one fight, Megatron won and began consuming his amassed sparks, growing ever more powerful and planning to become both the new Matrix and the new core consciousness of Cybertron. However, he'd made his old mistake—leaving Optimus alive (to make him watch his "ascension") instead of killing him. When he attempted to use the [[Key to Vector Sigma]] to transform the planet's [[organic core]] into [[technomatter]], Primal managed to dislodge them both. Both Megatron and Optimus Primal awoke inside a bizarre temple-like spaceship which was hurtling through space. Neither had any memory of who they were or how they got there, only their own names and a feeling of discomfort between one another. The pair went about investigating the ship in search of answers. While Megatron's memory was lost, his personality remained mostly intact: he was more concerned with seizing control of the ship before Primal did in order to gain the upper hand.

They eventually found a data log and discovered that their sparks had been taken and they were reborn into new bodies (unbeknownst to them, bodies identical to their original Earth forms). However, their memories were intentionally not uploaded into their new bodies. While searching the log they discovered that the ship's main power source was a [[Golden Disk]] lodged within a giant pillar. Megatron immediately raced to obtain the Disk and Primal followed him. The closer they got to the disk the more the ship attempted to thwart their advance by manipulating its atmosphere conditions.

Once they reached the chamber the ship's environment suddenly morphed to that of a decaying planet littered with the corpses of robots. The corpses came to life and began shambling toward them, intent on eating their sparks. They made short work of the zombies, leaving Megatron to obtain the Golden Disk and Primal with a feeling that he shouldn't entirely trust Megatron.

From another dimension beyond time and space, [[Primus]] recognized that something was amiss and sent one of his messengers to meet Primal and Megatron within the spaceship.

When [[Optimus Primal]]'s spark is revived from the within the Matrix to protect the multiverse, this action freed Megatron's spark as well. The reborn Megatron returned to the ranks of the Predacons, but this time, Optimus Primal found himself in an uneasy alliance with him against Unicron. Megatron traveled with his old nemesis from universe to universe, wherever the growing multiversal conflict had spread. But now with Unicron disappeared into the [[Unicron Singularity]], it remains to be seen whether Megatron's insane ambition will resurface.

Prior to the Universe Conflict an alternate dimension's Megatron was killed by a [[Razorclaw (Universe)|Tigerhawk]] who was corrupted by the Vok. Yet another dimension's Megatron was killed by it's realities [[Obsidian (Universe)|Obsidian]] and [[Tankor (Universe Decepticon)|Tankor]]. '''Megatron''' began with one goal: restoring glory and power to the Predacon race, with himself at the helm. What distinguishes Megatron from the countless others who share this goal is his chutzpah. He is willing to risk everything—time, space, himself—if need be. And there were times he would have made it happen were it not for [[Optimus Primal]].

Megatron is skillful at orchestrating vast schemes by manipulating others into doing them for him—an idle suggestion here, a conspicuously-planted object of interest there. He knows his enemies inside and out and exactly how to provoke them. He has no friends, only pawns, or occasionally, [[Inferno (BW)|pawns that are too reliable to risk losing]]. Because of this attitude, this superiority complex, he despises working with the very troops he needs to carry out his plans. His hubris does not make him very popular, and so he must rely on power and fear to rule them. In fact, he prefers [[Vehicon|mindless drones]].

Megatron is a gambler and can sometimes be a ham. (His manner of saying "Yesss..." is practically vaudevillian.) He has a twisted sense of humor and an over-developed sense of drama which rule everything he conceives, both long and short term. When he destroys you, he wants you to know that it was he who did this, and just how badly you were had. This is his greatest weakness. Like a Bond villain, he'll gladly boast to the hero at length about how smart and clever he was, giving his victim time to formulate a counterattack (he admits the Predacons sometimes gloat too much). He often sabotages himself by neglecting the quick and easy solutions for the bigger, meaner, and more complex.

Prior to the signing of the [[Pax Cybertronia]], Megatron was a field commander in the Predacon army, where he learned much about strategy and tactics. Upon ratification of peace with the [[Maximal Imperium]] most Predacons laid down their arms. Megatron refused and went rogue.

Megatron was the star pupil of the crimelord [[Cryotek]], and successfully carried out his plan to steal the [[Golden Disk]]. Cryotek loved him like a son... which didn't stop him setting up Megatron to take the fall for the crime, knowing he'd betray him some day anyway. Unfortunately for Cryotek, "some day" was today—Megatron had everyone on the mission who wasn't loyal to him killed, had the data for the location of the Disk secretly decoded by [[Tarantulas]], and then kept it for himself while directing the Maximals to his tutor. This was the first known time that Megatron would co-opt the plan of someone who thought they were the ones being manipulative and backstabbing, but [[Other Voices, Part 2|wouldn't]] [[The Agenda (Part 2)|be]] [[The Agenda (Part III)|the]] [[Nemesis Part 1|last]]. {{storylink|Theft of the Golden Disk}}

On Cybertron, Megatron wore removable transformable armor, which transformed into a missile-launching armored platform, over his basic bodyframe (which transforms into a hovertank). This quickly-discarded outer shell was possibly used to comply with the ratification of the [[Pax Cybertronia]], which required Predacons to lay down their arms. A Predacon field commander before the peace, Megatron refused to comply with these new regulations and struck out on his own to destroy the [[Maximal Imperium]].

With some [[Cryotek|help]] from [[Divebomb (G1)|various sources]], he assembled a crew of ragtag criminals and miscreants for the purpose of stealing the Golden Disk and using it to find [[Earth]]. Succeeding in stealing the disk, he, [[Dinobot (BW)|his lieutenant]], and [[Scorponok (BW)|another accomplice]] fought their way out of the [[Archives]], eliminating [[Unit 1|one guard]] and dodging [[Tigatron|another]]. They were swiftly picked up by the ''[[Darksyde]]'', a ship stolen by the rest of their crew.

Megatron instructed [[Tarantulas]] to study the disk for the coordinates of Earth while the ''Darkside'' battled its several pursuers. Although they were followed by the Maximal ships [[Axalon (BW)|''Axalon'']] and the ''[[Chromia 10]]'', the ''Darksyde''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s mission was also aided by a third ship crewed by the Predacon agents [[Laserbeak (G1)|Laserbeak]] and [[Buzzsaw (G1)|Buzzsaw]]. Though the ''Chromia 10'' and the Predacon ship were destroyed, the ''Darksyde'' was still followed by the ''Axalon''. Megatron removed his transformable armor and patched a video feed through to the ''Axalon'''s captain, [[Optimus Primal]]. After stealing the Maximal relic, the [[Golden Disk]], and [[Darksyde|a ship]], he and his crew were followed through a [[transwarp]] portal by the [[Axalon (BW)|''Axalon'']]. After crashing on a planet that was supposed to be [[Earth]], yet seemingly wasn't, both the [[Maximal]]s and the Predacons took organic beast forms to protect themselves against the massive amount of Energon radiation. Megatron now transformed into a purple ''Tyrannosaurus rex''.

Dinobot chastised Megatron, accusing him of leading the Predacons to the wrong planet and challenged Megatron for leadership of the Predacons. Megatron simply ignored the challenge and had Scorponok dispose of him. {{storylink|Beast Wars (Part 1)}}

Despite the loss of a formidable crony, Megatron positioned himself on the new world and the "Beast Wars" began. Being on a world filled with Energon allowed [[Terrorsaur (BW)|Terrorsaur]] to find a superhorde, and power himself to great levels. With this power, Terrorsaur was able to demolish Megatron in battle and take over the Predacons. However, through the Maximals' actions, the superhorde was destroyed. Terrorsaur was eventually ridden of his newfound power and returned to an angered Megatron, who was rebuilt by [[Scorponok (BW)|Scorponok]]. {{storylink|Power Surge}}

Again, Terrorsaur tried to usurp Megatron, this time using an apparently-turned [[Rattrap]], who used a device to paralyze Megatron. The Predacons argued over who would be leader, but agreed to put Rattrap and Megatron away for the time being. Megatron was able to easily escape using his secret voice commands, leaving Rattrap to his fate. Revealing himself to have escaped, Megatron allowed Terrorsaur to lead the Predacons in battle with the Maximals. Terrorsaur failed miserably, showing his ineptitude to the Predacons, which was Megatron's plan all along. {{storylink|Double Jeopardy}}

Megatron later formulated a plan to get off Earth. First, he had the other Predacons act dissatisfied with his leadership, causing a battle that apparently destroyed the Predacons, using a Maximal spy camera that he was aware of to play out the trick. Then, the Maximals scavenged the ''Darksyde'' for parts to repair the ''Axalon''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s stardrive. Dinobot discovered the deception and rushed to warn the leaving Maximals. In the scuffle, Megatron snuck aboard. In the ''Axalon'', he managed to knock out every Maximal on the ship but Rattrap, who he started crushing to death. An angered [[Rhinox (BW)|Rhinox]] woke up and threw Megatron off the ''Axalon''. However, Megatron's tail weapon was stuck in the console, causing the ''Axalon'' to crash. Later, Megatron caught wind of the return of the [[Vok]] and called a ceasefire between the two factions, realizing he had more important things to worry about. The Vok did indeed return, and planned to destroy the planet the Transformers were on with their massive [[Planet Buster]] (cleverly disguised as the [[Moon (moon)|Moon]]). Optimus Primal managed to stop the planet buster after flying close to it within a modified stasis pod. Megatron added a little surprise for Primal within the pod, though; locking the door so that Primal could not escape and was destroyed when the planet buster exploded. {{storylink|Other Voices}}

The [[quantum surge]] from the exploding planet buster bathed Megatron in quantum energies, upgrading him into a [[Transmetal]]. Megatron quickly rallied his forces and attempted an all-out attack on the leader-less Maximals. Megatron and the Predacons took the upperhand in battle until a Transmetal Optimus Primal (brought back online by [[Rhinox]]) saved the day. {{storylink|Coming of the Fuzors (Part 1)}}

With both factions now aware that the planet they were stranded on was really prehistoric [[Earth]], Megatron was free to put his full plan into motion. Locating the crashed [[Ark]], Megatron attempted to alter history by assassinating the unconscious [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]]. By doing so, he intended to ensure the defeat of the [[Autobot]]s and thus the victory of the [[Decepticon]]s and Predacons. {{storylink|The Agenda (Part III)}}

The Maximals managed to save Prime's life by having [[Teletraan I]] repair his body while Optimus Primal kept his spark within his own structure, transforming his body into a more powerful form. The Maximals defeated Megatron and returned Prime's spark to its proper place. {{storylink|Optimal Situation}}

Megatron did not rest. He went on to [[Transmetal driver|reverse-engineer alien technology]], gained by means unknown, to create the [[Transmetal#Transmetal 2|Transmetal 2]] process and create himself a loyal clone of Dinobot. {{storylink|Feral Scream Part 1}} He also worked towards taking control of Optimus & temporarily seize the new Maximal base, allowing him to enter the Ark again. Wanting to replicate the effect Optimus Prime's spark had on Primal, he deliberately took the spark of the original Megatron and placed it in his body. He was transformed into a powerful dragon and able to give Optimus Primal a sound beating, until chased away by the recovered Maximal group. {{Storylink|Master Blaster}}

Even this power was useless when [[Tigerhawk]] arrived and casually destroyed the Predacon base. {{storylink|Other Victories}} Desperate once again, Megatron investigated the now-deceased Tarantulas's base for anything of value—and found the legendary Decepticon battleship, the [[Nemesis (G1)|Nemesis]], rebuilt and with Transwarp capabilities. Bringing it out of the ocean depths, Megatron intended to pilot it back to the future and lay waste to the Maximals on Cybertron. {{storylink|Nemesis Part 1}}

First, however, he planned to annihilate the entire Ark rather than simply Optimus Prime—an act Tarantulas had early planned that would've wiped out Decepticon descendants as well as Autobots. (Taking G1 Megatron's spark with him would have most likely altered time as well) In this final battle, Megatron was quoting heavily from the [[Covenant of Primus]] holy texts and declared himself the "Alpha and Omega" that prophesied, drunk off his own power; it's possible he believed the resulting timestorm wouldn't affect him as it would the rest of his race.

Primal infiltrated the Nemesis and kept Megatron busy until Rhinox could fly a shuttlecraft through the bridge and take the Predacon out. The Nemesis crashed a second time and thus preserved history. After returning the original Megatron's spark to its proper body, the Maximals headed back to Cybertron with the incarcerated Megatron shackled to the outside of their ship. {{Storylink|Nemesis Part 2}}

====Botcon: ''Reaching The Omega Point''====

[[Antagony]], future-born Herald Maximo of [[Shokaract]], arrived on prehistoric Earth to protect the Dark Essence of [[Unicron]]. She attempted to terminate Megatron, who quickly conned her into fighting Optimus and then took her captive when she went into stasis lock. {{storylink|Visitations}}

He began patiently (and happily) torturing her for information on the future she came from, and when that failed he hacked into her mind using a nanoprobe "mind drill". That triggered a suicide device that killed her before he could gain any information; Megatron was left with no information, beyond that her master would surely try again...

Almost immediately after his transformation into dragon form, Megatron detected a temporal breach. Having his troops ambush the Maximals (who had also detected), he attempted to reach the time-traveller ([[Windrazor (BW)|Windrazor) and gain access to the future, not caring what would happen if he took the original Megatron's spark with him. In the process, he encountered the Dark Essence and almost became a willing vessel for it, until it realised Windrazor would be easier to control. When the Fuzor fought the influence off, Shokaract himself emerged...{{storylink|Herald, Covenant, Schism, Paradox}}

Megatron's reaction to a horrifically powerful spark-devouring demigod, and time & space being shattered into a chaotic maelstrom... was to blackmail said demigod by opening fire on the Dark Essence of the Chaos-Bringer, demanding knowledge of the future or he'd cause the erasure of Shokaract's future. Megatron is ''hardcore''. He failed, but this was a crucial distraction that helped bring about Shokaract's defeat. {{storylink|Terminus}}

Taking advantage of the [[Blasty Zone]] as a means of time travel (and apparently size-enhancer), Megatron journeyed to a point in history where the original Megatron had gone missing, leaving the [[Decepticon]]s without a leader. "Beast Megatron" took command of the Decepticons, leading them on a quest to collect a powerful element, [[solitarium]], from within the Earth. Beast Megatron's plans were quickly thwarted by [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]] and a troop of time-displaced Autobots and Maximals, including [[Star Saber (G1)|Star Saber]], [[Victory Leo]], [[Lio Convoy]] and Beast Megatron's arch nemesis, [[Optimus Primal]].

Beast Megatron later discovered a large deposit of solitarium beneath [[New York City]], and along with [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream]], [[Smokesniper]], [[Gigant Bomb]] and [[Wingstun]], laid waste to the Big Apple. The Autobots, accompanied by [[Reverse Convoy]], arrived and dealt with Beast Megatron's forces quickly. However, Reverse Convoy revealed himself to be the original Megatron in disguise and betrayed them. Now going by the name [[Megatron (G1)#Robot Masters (Japan-only)|Rebirth Megatron]], he teamed up with Beast Megatron and the pair made trouble for the Autobot commanders. However, the Autobots were able to defeat the two Megatrons, sending the villains into retreat.

In Lio Convoy's opinion, Megatron was a simple wild card, no real threat when compared with Magmatron. This drives home the fact that Cybertron had no idea of the damage Megatron had and would inflict, or the lengths he would go to becoming arguably the most powerful Transformer since the Great War.

After dispatching [[Rampage (BW)|Rampage]] and [[Inferno (BW)|Inferno]] to oversee the installation of [[Sentinel]] into the [[Darkside]], Megatron was attacked by [[Magmatron (BW)|Magmatron]], who had been assigned to arrest him by the [[Tripredacus Council]]. Although Megatron proved more than a match for the experienced Predacon general individually, he was ambushed and paralyzed by [[Iguanus (BW)|Iguanus]] and [[Drill Bit (BW)|Drill Bit]]. Magmatron intended to use a [[transwarp shunt]] to transport his prisoner back to [[Cybertron]]. {{storylink|The Gathering issue 3|The Gathering #3}} Thanks to the intervention of [[Grimlock (G1)|Grimlock]], [[Optimus Minor]], and [[Razorbeast]], Magmatron was sent home empty-handed. Breaking free from his constraints on the Autobot shuttle while it traveled through transwarp space, Megatron arrived back home on Cybertron well before the Maximals did. Using technology of his own devising, he took over the entire planet, and stored the [[spark]] of every last inhabitant under his citadel.

Additionally, Megatron seemed to have undergone a change. Gone was the ham who sought conquest for the sake of glory and power. He now spoke as if a god, almost reminiscent of his quotes from the Covenant of Primus. His actions were based not on the thirst for revenge on Maximals but in hopes of becoming a grand liberator for their kind. In addition, while as recently as the final battle of the Beast Wars, he would flatten a subordinate for even mentioning "the H word" ("honor"), he now would keep his word to his enemies, even at the risk of future losses. Further, at some point in this period, Megatron became convinced that beast modes and other vestiges of the organic were an abomination that should be scoured from Cybertron, leaving only technological purity. (Before he had seemed perfectly pleased with his dinosaur and dragon beast modes and, in fact, seemed to revel in them.) This was a new and even madder Megatron.

When the Maximals arrived in their shuttle, they found the planet empty aside from countless [[Vehicon|mindless drones]] controlled by Megatron. Megatron's drones immediately bombarded the Maximals with [[devolving gas]] to revert their powerful [[Transmetal]] bodies to normal beast mode bodies, and they were also affected by a [[transformation lock virus]] which Megatron had used to help him conquer the planet in the first place.

Despite his best efforts, the Maximals escaped, and learned to transform again after Primal used the [[Oracle]]'s power to [[reformatting|reformat]] them. They began making short work of his Vehicons, so he removed three sparks from his collection to create [[Vehicon general]]s which could think on their feet in battle. For the generals he chose sparks of Transformers that the Maximals already knew, such that if they ever discovered the sparks' identities, they would be reluctant to destroy them: [[Silverbolt (Fuzor)|Silverbolt]] became [[Jetstorm (BM)|Jetstorm]], [[Rhinox (BW)|Rhinox]] became [[Tankor]], and [[Waspinator]] became [[Thrust (BM)|Thrust]]. He also repeatedly reverted to beast mode whenever he was enraged, being unable to fully eradicate it—but unwilling to take the momentary risk of transferring his spark to a completely Vehicon body.

Rhinox awakened and went rogue, planning a grand scheme to usurp Megatron's dominance, but Megatron effortlessly seized control of his traitor-general's evil plan at the last minute & almost wiped out all resistance with the [[Key to Vector Sigma]]. At the last moment, Optimus unleashed the [[Plasma Energy Chamber]] force {{storylink|End Of The Line}} and the combined energies destroyed Megatron's body. He was presumed dead, but the combined energies had actually succeeded in separating his organic half from his body—unfortunately, his spark went with it and was now trapped in a purely organic Transformer. He took the identity of "innocent" Maximal [[Savage/Noble|Noble]] and, preying on [[Nightscream]]'s survivor guilt and Optimus's inherent goodness, got the Maximals to help transfer his spark to the [[Grand Mal]], a vessel shaped in his own head. {{storylink|Prometheus Unbound}}

With Tankor destroyed and Jetstorm eventually reformatted into Silverbolt, Megatron used the sparks of famous generals [[Obsidian (BM)|Obsidian]] and [[Strika]] to replace them. {{storylink|Sparkwar Pt. I: The Strike}} He also managed to gain a link to the [[Vector Sigma|Oracle]] itself, stealing the knowledge from Primal. {{storylink|Sparkwar Pt. II: The Search}} This gave him the ability to move ahead with his grand plan—to consume the captured sparks and eventually consume/replace the [[Allspark]] itself—but Nightscream temporarily stopped him by depolarize Megatron's own spark. Now severed from a body, it jumped between discarded shells and attacked everyone in a zombie like fashion' Rattrap would use a [[spark extractor]] to repolarize his spark, allowing Megatron to regain his senses, but trapping him in a [[Diagnostic Drone]]. {{storylink|Spark of Darkness}}

Immediately following this, Megatron launched an all-out battle for the sparks and suceeded in capturing them, as well as the sparks of all the Maximals and obliterating their [[technorganic]] orchard—leaving just Optimus Primal and himself as the only two Transformers on the entire planet. To add insult to injury, he uploaded his spark into a copy of Primal's old Optimal Optimus form. Over the season, his personality had gradually become more like that of his Beast Wars self, and by this point he was once again hamming it up—revelling in his victory, mocking his enemies (his stated reason for copying Optimus' old body) and deliberately not killing Optimus outright, and having melodramatic outbursts when in his new body.

At the end of a fierce one-on-one fight, Megatron won and began consuming his amassed sparks, growing ever more powerful and planning to become both the new Matrix and the new core consciousness of Cybertron. However, he'd made his old mistake—leaving Optimus alive (to make him watch his "ascension") instead of killing him. When he attempted to use the [[Key to Vector Sigma]] to transform the planet's [[organic core]] into [[technomatter]], Primal managed to dislodge them both. They plummeted into the planet's goopy core and from there, Primal was able to reformat the entire planet, destroying himself and Megatron completely, but freeing all the lost sparks to repopulate their newly redecorated planet. {{storylink|Endgame Pt. Both Megatron and Optimus Primal awoke inside a bizarre temple-like spaceship which was hurtling through space. Neither had any memory of who they were or how they got there, only their own names and a feeling of discomfort between one another. The pair went about investigating the ship in search of answers. While Megatron's memory was lost, his personality remained mostly intact: he was more concerned with seizing control of the ship before Primal did in order to gain the upper hand.

They eventually found a data log and discovered that their sparks had been taken and they were reborn into new bodies (unbeknownst to them, bodies identical to their original Earth forms). However, their memories were intentionally not uploaded into their new bodies. While searching the log they discovered that the ship's main power source was a [[Golden Disk]] lodged within a giant pillar. Megatron immediately raced to obtain the Disk and Primal followed him. The closer they got to the disk the more the ship attempted to thwart their advance by manipulating its atmosphere conditions.

Once they reached the chamber the ship's environment suddenly morphed to that of a decaying planet littered with the corpses of robots. The corpses came to life and began shambling toward them, intent on eating their sparks. They made short work of the zombies, leaving Megatron to obtain the Golden Disk and Primal with a feeling that he shouldn't entirely trust Megatron.

From another dimension beyond time and space, [[Primus]] recognized that something was amiss and sent one of his messengers to meet Primal and Megatron within the spaceship.

When [[Optimus Primal]]'s spark is revived from the within the Matrix to protect the multiverse, this action freed Megatron's spark as well. The reborn Megatron returned to the ranks of the Predacons, but this time, Optimus Primal found himself in an uneasy alliance with him against Unicron. Megatron traveled with his old nemesis from universe to universe, wherever the growing multiversal conflict had spread. But now with Unicron disappeared into the [[Unicron Singularity]], it remains to be seen whether Megatron's insane ambition will resurface.

Prior to the Universe Conflict an alternate dimension's Megatron was killed by a [[Razorclaw (Universe)|Tigerhawk]] who was corrupted by the Vok. Yet another dimension's Megatron was killed by it's realities [[Obsidian (Universe)|Obsidian]] and [[Tankor (Universe Decepticon)|Tankor]]. All three Megatron-murderers were eventualy promoted to the rank of [[Unicron's General]]. It seems that killing Megatron may be part of Unicron's criteria for choosing a General.

When Megatron was defeated by Nightscream, the spirit of Rhinox attempted to act as a spirit guide and redeem the tyrant.
