'''His plans crumbling, Megatron takes a final stab at winning the Beast Wars and changing history.'''
{{episodenav |BW |season=2 |13 |prev=The Agenda (Part 2) |next=Optimal Situation}}

==Summary==
With [[Ravage]] and his [[Transwarp Cruiser]] backing them up, the [[Predacon]]s unleash a full assault on the [[Maximal]] [[Axalon (BW)|base]]. It doesn't take long for Ravage and [[Rampage (BW)|Rampage]] to bring down the base's shield. Ravage has Tarantulas transfer all the cruiser's power into one enormous missile. Before it can fire, [[Rattrap]] bursts into the ship's weapons hold and tosses a pair of magnetic bombs that adhere to Tarantulas's hands. The bombs obliterate [[Tarantulas]], the ship's interior, and Ravage{{m-}}who faces the onrushing fireball with a stoic cry of "[[Decepticon]]s forever!" The cruiser falls out of the sky, coming to rest mere feet from Rampage{{m-}}who is then blasted by the still-armed missile.

With the cruiser destroyed and his minions out of commission, Megatron flees. [[Optimus Primal|Optimus]] notes that he's not headed back to base, realizes where he's probably going, and orders the Maximals to pursue.

Meanwhile, [[Blackarachnia (BW)|Blackarachnia]] and [[Silverbolt (Fuzor)|Silverbolt]] make their way into the caves of the volcano, uncovering the object of Blackarachnia's quest{{m-}}the [[Ark (G1)|''Ark'']]. Blackarachnia explains to Silverbolt that the ship contains the Autobots' "finest heroes", but was attacked by Decepticons, with members of both factions stored inside, who will awaken in the distant future to re-start the [[Great War]]. Blackarachnia is concerned only with the power it possesses{{m-}}but Megatron arrives just then, blasting Silverbolt offline and sealing the entrance to the caves behind him.

The Maximals arrive hot on his heels, find the sealed entrance, and start digging their way in. Inside, Megatron threatens to vaporize Silverbolt, convincing Blackarachnia to use the access codes to gain access to the ''Ark'' (though she vehemently maintains it's only so they'll have some cover in the face of the imminent Maximal attack). The Maximals burst through in time to see the two Predacons sealing the ''Ark'' behind them.

Blackarachnia activates the ship's defenses to hold off the Maximals, while Megatron goes to "effect a more permanent solution." Entering the main bridge of the ship, he hovers among the fallen Autobots and Decepticons, eulogizing the Decepticons and cursing the Autobots, until he comes face to face with his intended target{{m-}}[[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]], the original [[Prime (rank)|leader]] of the [[Autobot]]s, who kept the Decepticons from victory (and therefore left their Predacon descendants in a subservient position to the dominant Maximals). Megatron charges his main weapon and prepares to fire.

In the caves, the Maximals are pelted by fire from the ship's cannon, till Rattrap manages to force a backblast that deactivates the cannon and shields. [[Rhinox (BW)|Rhinox]] struggles to open the mighty doors of the ''Ark''. But the Maximals are too late{{m-}}Megatron unleashes a full-power blast at Optimus Prime's head, destroying it.

A time storm immediately wells up, spreading outward from the ''Ark'' and into space. The Maximals find themselves phasing in and out of past bodies{{m-}}as well as out of existence{{m-}}as Megatron emerges from the ''Ark'', triumphant.

==Notes==
[[Image:Agenda3 opening.JPG|thumb|Yes, "Part Eye-Eye-Eye".]]
*Despite every other multi-part episode in ''Beast Wars'' using Arabic numerals in their titles (including the first two parts of "The Agenda"), this episode opts for the Roman numeral for whatever reason.

* Megatron, to no one's surprise, is perfectly willing to sacrifice most of his team to defeat the Maximals. Blackarachnia, Inferno, Quickstrike, and Rampage were all originally Maximal protoforms (or, in Rampage's case, the product of Maximal science). If his plan to retroactively destroy the Autobots and Maximals had worked, he would have been left with a team consisting of Waspinator and Tarantulas. (Tarantulas' precise origins are unclear, but he's definitely not a descendant of the Autobots.)

*In any event, Megatron's plan would seem to be [[wikipedia:Temporal paradox|temporally problematic]], since such a drastic change could've wiped out the Predacons (and himself) just as easily as the Maximals. Small wonder he "was reluctant to follow my namesake's instructions" and regards it as "the ultimate risk".

*This episode marks the commencement of an ongoing error, whereby [[Teletraan 1]] is frequently pronounced "Tele''tron'' 1". The issue is resolved with [[Rattrap|extreme subtlety]] in "[[Nemesis Part 2]]".

===Technical/Animation glitches===
* After Ravage's ship goes down and the Maximals decide to chase after Megatron, Optimus transforms to flight mode. Watch his transformation, you will see that his front, back, and every part of his upper torso is all messed up, to the point that he has to spin around a few times after transforming. (While this is happening the scene mostly switches to Rattrap climbing on Cheetor). Optimus is normal again when he tells Rhinox to "Get on."

* After Megatron blasts the entrance shut and the Maximals get off and find it covered, in a split second the colors on Rattrap's wheels on his back and his rat legs are reversed.

===Continuity errors===
* This episode called into sudden question the location of the Maximal and Predacon bases. The events of "[[Code of Hero]]" seem to firmly place the series somewhere in Africa, where early humanity evolved; the templates for the Maximals' beast modes (gorillas, cheetahs, rhinos) would seem to back this up. However, the ''Ark'' is traditionally seen to have crashed in the Pacific Northwest of the United States. If this is the case, the Maximals pursued Megatron across the Atlantic Ocean and over an entire continent! Even if the Ark touched down in Africa in this continuity, in "[[Possession]]" [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream's]] spark is ''clearly'' shown landing in the Southwest United States.
* Either way, it doesn't make much sense that the Maximals make ''no'' attempt to shoot down Megatron while he's still on the run, rather than waiting till he reaches his destination.

===Transformers references===
*In reference to the strength of the ''Ark'', Rattrap claims, "That ship wasn't built, it was poured!". Primal replies "Die-cast construction. It's a lost art." This is a reference to the original Transformer toys, which featured some [[die-cast]] parts.

*The final act features a bonanza of cameo appearances by the original Generation 1 Transformers, including Prowl, Optimus Prime, Megatron, Ironhide, Thundercracker, Soundwave, and Starscream.

===Real-world references===
*Rattrap refers to his vehicle mode as Knievel mode, a reference to [[wikipedia:Evel Knievel|Evel Knievel]].
*As Rattrap rides the missile connected with Ravage's ship, he lets out a cowboy yell. This is a homage to Stanley Kubrick's ''[[wikipedia:Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb|Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb]]''.
==Notes==

===Technical/Animation glitches===

===Continuity errors===

===Transformers references===

===Real-world references===
'''Megatron uses alien technology to create a new Transmetal 2 version of Dinobot, and Cheetor is caught in the blast as the device malfunctions.'''

==Summary==

In a dark and stormy night, Optimus Primal and Cheetor battle with Megatron and Waspinator for a stasis pod. Cheetor pulls out a massive rifle, but instead of hitting Waspinator, his shot explodes closer to Optimus, collapsing the ledge he's standing on and burying him in an avalanche. The two Predacons retreat with their prized pod, and Cheetor is left to see to the fallen Maximal Leader. Depth Charge arrives and helps uncover Optimus by blasting some rubble away with a "power pizza". After it's clear Primal is still alive, Depth Charge flies off to hunt Rampage. Primal drives back to the base, while Cheetor in instructed to wait for back up, and assist Depth Charge.

In a dramatic ceremony, Megatron loads the stasis pod into a machine, with cells from [[Dinobot (BW)|Dinobot]] for an identity, and half the spark of [[Rampage]]. Given life in blank protoform by lightning, and all tied together with the [[Transmetal driver]], Dinobot II is born. Depth Charge crashes the birthday party, but the new Dinobot displays an intense ferocity against the manta. Cheetor "spices things up with Cheetor pepper" (shoots stuff).

Dinobot II transforms and inspects his new body, accidentally blowing off his own finger. Cheetor grabs a Predacon hover-thing and uses it to snatch the Transmetal driver from the apparatus Megatron assembled to create the new Dinobot. Cheetor tosses the driver to Depth Charge. Megatron, still on the scene, blasts Cheetor into the electrical current, frying the cat bot. Cheetor spends a minute, tortured by the machine, and the assembled transformers cover themselves as a large flash of white light explodes the mountainside. Apparently, Cheetor is dead.

Back in the Maximal's base, Primal is repairing himself. Depth Charge arrives and reports Cheetor's death. Depth Charge heads into a cave to scan the driver, and finds that it's a device of alien nature that has been altered by Megatron. He decides to destroy the device by tossing it into some lava, but once Depth Charge's back is turned, Blackarachnia catches the device before it is immolated.

Outside, Primal blames himself for Cheetor's death - but as it turns out, Cheetor is still alive, and in bad shape.

In the Predacon base, Rampage expresses displeasure over having his Spark's core given to the Dinobot clone. The king crab tries to reclaim the fragment of himself, but Dinobot uses his ability to tease his fragment of Rampage's spark, causing Rampage great pain. Dinobot is sent to recover the Transmetal driver. [[Rubber Ducky]] watches contently from the tub.

Depth Charge emerges from a CR Chamber, and sets out to Sub-Grid Zarak to hunt Rampage. When there, he's ambushed and captured by Dinobot. Dinobot and the Predacons interrogate Depth Charge, but a feral monster jumps out of the darkness and strikes down Megatron. Quickstrike follows the blur behind a rock, but is quickly dismembered. When the strange feline blur jumps out again, Rampage and his "brother" try to shoot it, but only end up blasting each other away.

Megatron is left on his own, and overprotective of himself, he blasts away the wandering Waspinator. The beast hits Megatron in the back, and Megatron stumbles and plants his own tail-claw-weapon thing into the ground, causing himself to spin out of control and over a cliff. Depth Charge is left alone to wonder who or what saved him, but his mysterious hero sneaks away when Primal returns.

Back at the Maximal base, Cheetor stumbles onto the scene and passes out. Primal and Rhinox rush to help him.

==Quotes==
==Notes==
* This episode has one of few scenes with Primal in his Optimal body's beast mode.
* This episode also marks the only time Rhinox is seen outside in the whole of season 3 (except from peeking round the door in [[Crossing the Rubicon]]). No wonder he's on the chunky side.

===Transformers References===
*There is a [[Subgrid Zarak|subgrid]] near the Maximal base called [[Zarak]].

===World References===
*Megatron's creation of the Dinobot clone is clearly based on the creation of the monster from Frankenstein, complete with Waspinator as Igor.

*After grabbing the Transmetal driver, Cheetor yells for Depth Charge to "Go deep", a reference to American football.

*Megatron spins around and over a cliff in a manner similar to the Tasmanian Devil "Taz" and Wile E. Coyote cartoon characters, respectively.

===Animation Errors===
*During the top shot of the Darksyde, the ship is clearly mirrored. The (looking from top) left wing is whole and right wing is broken, when in reality the wings are reversed. It was shown correctly in part 2, however.

{{disambig3|Silverbolt}}{{picsneeded|Toys}}
:''Silverbolt is a [[Maximal]] from the [[Beast Era]] portion of the [[Generation 1]] [[continuity family]].''

[[Image:Silverboltfuzor.jpg|right|thumb|300px|Strong, sleek, swift and stupid.]]

"Pure, strong, and fast," '''Silverbolt'''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s sense of right and wrong is so overdeveloped his fellow Maximals wonder if his programming has a glitch. He speaks in platitudes that speak to chivalry, justice, and cheesy heroic ideals, and he has been known to give speeches that make even [[Optimus Primal]] roll his optics. His conviction is both his strength and his weakness. He sees the world in black and white (and no, that's not just because his beast mode is partly canine).

The only gray area for Silverbolt is [[Blackarachnia (BW)|Blackarachnia]]. His fierce love for the "evil" [[Predacon (BW)|Predacon]] causes him to question his preconceived notions of right and wrong. He was very proud of his ability to convert Blackarachnia to the Maximals, and, though most of the Maximals are skeptical of her loyalty to the cause and to him, he has nothing but faith in her.

{{quote|Though threatening your own comrade is no doubt business as usual in the Predacon guide to villainy... it is simply unacceptable behavior in ''my'' book! |Silverbolt|"[[Bad Spark]]"}}

==Fiction==
===Beast Wars===
:''Voice Actor:'' [[Scott McNeil]] (English), [[Mitsuo Iwata]] (Japanese), [[Bruno Rocha]] (Portuguese)

[[Image:BWSilverbolt_Blackarachnia_OptimalSituation.jpg|thumb|left|200px|MENNNNDOOOOOZAAA!!!]]

The explosion caused by the destruction of the [[Vok]] [[Planet Buster]] sent all stasis pods crashing to Earth. Some pods' scanners were damaged in the shockwave and eventual crash landing, and the resulting in the Fuzors, a blend of two beast forms and the advanced Transmetal technology. {{Storylink|Aftermath}}

One of these Fuzors was the winged-wolf Silverbolt, whose neighbor was the violent, psychotic cobra-scorpion [[Quickstrike (BW)|Quickstrike]], the latter immediately picking a fight with the peaceful Silverbolt. The fight was interrupted by [[Megatron (BW)|Megatron]] who tricked both Fuzors and recruited them into the Predacons. Silverbolt felt the faction's activation code and Megatron's orders to attack the passing [[Cheetor (BW)|Cheetor]] to be distasteful, to the furious punishment of the Predacon leader. Soon, he and the other Predacons faced the remaining Maximals in battle. {{Storylink|Coming of the Fuzors (Part 1)}}

However, Silverbolt felt out of place with so treacherous and cruel a group. After witnessing Maximal compassion and [[Dinobot (BW)|Dinobot]]'s own admission of defection, he made an important decision and joined the Maximals, saving the newly reborn [[Optimus Primal]] from Megatron. {{Storylink|Coming of the Fuzors (Part 2)}}

Soon afterwards, while on patrol with the much more laid-back [[Rattrap]] (who spent alot of the time pointedly ignoring Silverbolt's lines of honor and virtue) , Silverbolt encountered the alluring Blackarachnia when [[Tarantulas]] and Quickstrike were attempting to set up a forward base. She was somewhat surprised by his complete refusal to strike her simply because she was a female, using it to her advantage to attack him. However, the Maximal had no such compunction against fighting the coarse Quickstrike. {{Storylink|Tangled Web}}

Soon, Silverbolt found himself reluctantly sneaking off to aide Blackarachnia in constructing a small airship out of the fallen Stasis Pod. When it was complete, she ran off at first word of the ''[[Ark]]'' being discovered, Silverbolt in tow. He pleaded with her to join the Maximals, and - even after shooting him in the thigh - refused to leave until she did.

When Megatron arrived, Silverbolt was the playing card to convince Blackarachnia to open the doors to the Ark and allow him inside. Soon after, When [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]] was injured enough to cause the time storm, Blackarachnia used Silverbolt to put everything right, and defected to the Maximals soon after.

Most of the time thereafter, Silverbolt stayed by Blackarachnia's side, more than happy that the subterfuge was over. He was extremely pleased when Blackarachnia was converted fully into a Maximal (and a Transmetal 2, as well).

===Beast Machines===
:'''Voice Actor:''' [[Scott McNeil]] (US), [[Mitsuo Iwata]] (Japan), [[Marcus Jardym]] (Brazil)

When the Maximals found themselves back on [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]] running for their lives from armies of [[Vehicon]] drones, their memories of their past had been tampered with. Even [[Blackarachnia (BW)|Blackarachnia]] could not remember Silverbolt fully until she hacked into the memory backup on their ship.

[[Image:Silverboltjetstorm.jpg|right|thumb|Sadly, this was the coolest Silverbolt would get in Beast Machines...]]

Blackarachnia began to suspect that Silverbolt's [[spark]] may be inside one of the Vehicon Generals. At first, she erroneously thought it was inside [[Thrust (BM)|Thrust]], but after a mishap with some technorganic goop, Silverbolt's spark was proven to be inside [[Jetstorm (BM)|Jetstorm]] (and Thrust turned out to be [[Waspinator]], whose amorous advances were tragically spurned by the arachnid chick). For a precious few moments, Silverbolt's consciousness was completely awoken within Jetstorm's body, reverting to his old personality, until the goop was absorbed completely and Jetstorm's [[shell program]] reasserted itself.

Obsessed with bringing Silverbolt back, she hounded Jetstorm, demanding he remember their shared love and return to the Maximals. Needless to say, Jetstorm was vexed by this. But when [[Rattrap]] created a gizmo that would help them transfer the stolen Transformer sparks into new bodies, Blackarachnia stole it. Leading Jetstorm into the planet's organic core, she attached the gizmo to his back and trapped the Vehicon in a pool of the technorganic goop with her webs. After much screaming, reformatting, and brilliant light, Silverbolt was reborn as a condor, having scanned skeletal remains inside the cavern in the process.

[[Image:Silverboltbm.jpg|left|thumb|...for he later became... the World's Deadliest Peacock!]]

Counter to Blackarachnia's expectations, Silverbolt was not pleased. Gone was the Maximal who exemplified honor and chivalry, replaced with only a desire for retribution and vengeance. "I was a fool back then," he frowns, "I ''believed'' in things." Distraught, Blackarachnia managed to convince him to come along with her to help rescue [[Optimus Primal]] and [[Cheetor (BW)|Cheetor]] from inside [[Megatron (BW)|Megatron]]'s [[Grand Mal|Big Floating Head]], but Silverbolt did not accompany her for their friends -- he was not interested in them. He went to confront Megatron.

Megatron, seeing that his General had been reformatted into a Maximal, tried to seduce Silverbolt back to his side. Silverbolt was told he was a creature of honor who fought for just causes, and that Megatron gave Silverbolt not only a just cause (the technological purity of Cybertron), but also the power and strength to fight for that cause. Blackarachnia countered at every point, pleading with Silverbolt to remember their love and friendship. Silverbolt was not even paying attention to her, and finally answers Megatron bitterly: "You gave me ''nothing''." Silverbolt, with nearly insane fury, let loose a volley of feather bombs, disrupting Megatron from within. Cheetor and Primal were rescued, and Silverbolt was dragged away from the battle.

Slightly calmed, Silverbolt was later approached by Blackarachnia. He confided in her the real reason for his anger. It was not what Megatron had done to him, but that he was freed from his code of honor and he ''enjoyed'' the experience. He did not trust himself any longer. This did not deter Blackarachnia. She believed, no matter what, that Silverbolt had goodness in his heart.

As time went on, Silverbolt began to become more comfortable with his past. With the final defeat of Megatron and the reformatting of Cybertron, his old personality reemerged—only to ruin it by saying the corniest line he could think of. And more power to him.

===Universe===
====Pack-in/CD-ROM comic====
Silverbolt followed Optimus Primal in fighting against [[Reptilion]] and his Decepticon forces. He engaged [[Razorclaw (Universe)|Razorclaw]] in combat, but was probably defeated by him as the latter moved on to fight [[Striker]]. After the Decepticons were abducted by Unicron's ship, Silverbolt asked his leader just what that thing was. {{storylink|Universe CD-ROM}}
One year after [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]]'s Great Reformatting, five great Autobot heroes ([[Sideswipe (G1)|Sideswipe]], [[Sunstreaker]], [[Trailbreaker]], [[Shadow Striker]], and [[Roulette]]) returned home to a peaceful planet. Amidst a media blitz and celebration, Silverbolt, [[Blackarachnia]], [[Cheetor (BW)|Cheetor]], and [[Rattrap]] were among the Maximals to greet them.

However, what appeared to be celebratory fireworks struck Silverbolt and Blackarachnia and also the five Autobots. They were transported to the firey [[Pit]] deep within [[Unicron]], where all but Trailbreaker were rebuilt painfully into new bodies. Silverbolt was piece-by-piece reassembled into a version of his original [[Fuzor]] form.

Seeing an arena up ahead, the seven moved towards it, only to be attacked by a swarm of shape-shifting lava-like creatures. Silverbolt and the others were overwhelmed and taken into the arena (or, the [[Cauldron]]), where they were caged along with a multitude of Transformers kidnapped from across the multiverse.

During this time Blackarachnia was corrupted by Unicron to become one of his warriors. Silverbolt vowed to bring her back to the light again as she has done for him.

When the whole place went to pot after the formation of the [[Unicron Singularity]], Silverbolt escaped with the rest of the prisoners, taking Blackarachnia with him. Presumably they returned to their own time and universe.
===Beast Wars===
*'''Silverbolt''' (Deluxe Fuzor, 1998)
: ''Japanese ID number:'' '''C-41'''

: Part of the first wave of [[Fuzor]]s, Silverbolt transforms into a wolf with the wings, fore-legs and tail of an eagle. In either mode, pulling his tail activates a spring-loaded "wing flap" gimmick. Moving the wings far enough forward triggers their built-in spring-loaded missile launchers. Silverbolt's missiles are also designed to be held in his hands like clubs.

: For his Japanese release as part of ''Beast Wars Metals'', Silverbolt's silver was made much much brighter.

: This mold was used to make [[BotCon 1999]]'s [[Windrazor (BW)|Windrazor]].

===Beast Machines===
*'''Silverbolt''' (Basic, 2000)

: ''Beast Machines'' Silverbolt now transforms into kind of a condor, dropping his wolf-bits. His wings have a snap-together feature, and the entire wing assembly detaches to form a hand-held shield-blade for robot mode. It is [[Scale|woefully out of scale]] with the other Maximals, making [[Blackarachnia]] look like she has a midget fetish...

*'''Silverbolt''' (Basic, 2005)
: ''Japanese ID number:'' '''BR-10'''

: In 2005, the ''Beast Machines'' toy was [[redeco]]ed for the [[Takara]] ''[[Beast Wars Returns]]'' series in a much more show-like purple color scheme. He was only available at Toys "R" Us stores.

===Universe===
*'''Silverbolt''' (Deluxe, 2003)

: A purple redeco of the original Fuzor toy and part of the very first assortment of ''[[Universe]]'' product, Silverbolt once again transforms into a wolf/eagle fusion. He retains all of his previous gimmicks. This version also adds an Autobot sigil to his tummy-gem.
==Trivia==
* In the Japanese dub of Beast Wars, Silverbolt was not portrayed as a stereotypical "Knight in shining armor" as he was in the West. Instead, his unique character quirk was that he was ''psychotically polite'' and always happy no matter what. Even in that one scene in [[Optimal Situation]] where he thought Blackarachnia was dead. [[Frag|F**k]]ers. He ended nearly every sentence in a loud, stressed '''"desu!"''' which made every sentence of his needlessly over-polite. Suiseiseki would be proud.

* Silverbolt's line in Beast Wars ("I think my name is... Silverbolt") mimics the original [[Silverbolt (G1)|Silverbolt]]'s first line.

* Many fans have taken to giving the ''Beast Machines'' Silverbolt toy a four-legged "griffon" alt-mode rather than the official "condor" mode.

* According to various [[Hasbro]] representatives, ''Universe'' Silverbolt's colors (and those of pretty much the entire first wave of ''Universe'' product) were done by Hasbro employees from outside the ''Transformers'' team.

* Silverbolt's robot mode in Beast Machines was heavily designed after a traditional Japanese samurai.

* Silverbolt was the only Beast Wars character besides Megatron to completely change his animal form, first being a wolf/eagle hybrid, later becoming a condor.

* According to one of the [[Steven Melching|writers]] commentaries on one his [[Endgame Pt. II: When Legends Fall|episodes]] that he made the changes to Silverbolt based on the evolution of the Adam West Batman into the Dark Knight.
