After Optimus Prime's Autobots left Mission City, they left a homing beacon in a junk yard near the metropolis to attract any Autobots who might have heard Prime's rallying call to Earth. Alliance issue 3 Sideswipe was among those few that safely arrived and had hidden themselves in the junk yard. Once discovered, they were brought to Diego Garcia to train with the other Autobots and Major Lennox's soldiers in defense of their new home. However, they soon had to apply that training on the battlefield: the Decepticon Demolishor had been sighted in Shanghai, China. Alliance issue 4
In Shanghai, Sideswipe was deployed after Sideways. As Sideways managed to flee from Arcee in vehicle mode, Sideswipe caught up with him, somersaulted over the Decepticon, threw his right blade in the Decepticon's hood, and then dragged the blade in the opposite direction, tearing Sideways apart. Sideswipe took a moment to reflect on the success of his kill. Afterwards, he returned with the other Autobots to NEST's base in Diego Garcia, where he witnessed Director Theodore Galloway air the President's concerns over the recent spate of Decepticon activity, and how the Autobots remaining on Earth may be the cause of it.

After the All Spark shard is stolen by Ravage from NEST's secured bunker and Decepticons were detected heading towards Sam Witwicky's college, Sideswipe and the other Autobots were deployed to intercept, but arrived too late: Optimus Prime had died protecting the human boy from the resurrected Megatron, Starscream and Grindor.

The Autobots and NEST arrived at a US air base to discovered that the United States no longer welcomed the Autobots, following renewed Decepticon aggression after Prime's death, and that they were ordered to return to Diego Garcia. When Major William Lennox learned Witwicky had come up with how to possibly resurrect Optimus Prime, NEST travelled to Egypt instead. Sideswipe, who had been covered in a cargo net while being transported in vehicle mode, and relished the chance to cut through his bonds when deployed from the air. * On June 11, 2008, blurry camera phone photos from the set of Revenge of the Fallen offered the first look at Sideswipe's vehicle mode, which was believed to be a 2009 Chevrolet Corvette XR1 at that time. Ten days later, leaked photos offered a better look at the car being painted by Saleen, which was now revealed to be a never-seen-before Corvette model. On August 7, 2008, Jalopnik claimed having received information that the car was a so-called "Corvette Centennial Concept". General Motors finally admitted the car's existence at the Chicago Auto Show in February of 2009, now confirming that it was, in fact, a new Corvette Stingray concept.

* Rumored names for Sideswipe in the early days of the movie shooting were "Hot Rod" and "Stinger".

* Thanks to that whole General Motors bankruptcy thing, Sideswipe may be the closest we'll ever get to seeing a real Stingray.
Before the war, Sideways was a simple courier, not exactly a career demanding massive levels of courage. This means that in the battle against the Autobots, Sideways prefers to team up with larger Decepticons. This way, his target-friendly companion takes all the heat! In fact, he generally shuns combat entirely. He's not a courageous fellow. But when he absolutely must face the enemy, he eagerly deploys the spinning saw blades on his arms.

Since he's arrived on Earth, Sideways has started hanging out with the mountainous Demolishor. There's few larger Decepticons to lurk in the shadow of!
Sideways was hiding out in Shanghai when NEST came to investigate a possible Decepticon insurgence. While the soldiers and their Autobot allies were busy fighting off Demolishor, Sideways attempted to make his getaway. He was not entirely undetected, however, as Lennox sent out Arcee and the twins in pursuit. The twins quickly fell out of the chase and Sideways was also able to fight off Arcee after crashing directly through a building. Sideways didn't get far, and eventually met his end when Sideswipe engaged in pursuit, transformed, and bisected Sideways as he attempted to flee. Revenge of the Fallen (film)

:Deluxe-Class Sideways features Automorph action during the conversion from car to robot mode. When the front bumper is pressed, his front pair of wheels automatically flip underneath the hood. There is also some Mech Alive: you can see internal gears moving in his fore-arms when moving his arms, as well as a turning disk on each of his elbow. On his right arm is a spinning "saw" blade. He is probably the least film-accurate toy to date (that doesn't fall in a lesser size-class or different toy-line), but that doesn't make him any less awesome.

:Unlike the other on-screen characters in Revenge of the Fallen who turn into consumer vehicles, Sideways' vehicle mode is merely an approximation of an Audi R8 and is not an accurate replica. This is because the toy vehicle, lacking Audi signage, is unlicensed. This doesn't explain why all versions of Deluxe class Sideways (hand-painted prototypes, test shots and production toys) are missing the black front lid, roof and rear hood seen on Sideways toys of other price points, and the real car. However, all of the toys are missing the unique silver stripes on top of the black areas seen on the APR-tuned Audi R8, which was the car used in the movie.

:Yet another victim of late mold changes rampant among the 2008-2009 financial crisis, Sideways appears to have had a hinged thumb on his left hand in Hasbro stock photos whereas this is a solid section molded on to the arm on the final toy. Also, Sideways' windshield underside has two notches added that are not in any early photos nor the instructions. These notches are there ostensibly to more securely connect to Sideways' hood.

:Using the length of an Audi R8 as a scale reference, Sideways is approximately 1:33 scale.

:Magna Missile Sideways' robot mode has the entire sides of the car becoming his arms, making this toy even more similar to Barricade than Sideway's movie CG and Deluxe class toy robot design. Like most of the Sideways toys and merchandise (bar the Deluxe class figure), he features screen-accurate black paint on his vehicle front lid, roof and rear hood.
Dreadwing isn't particularly smart, which makes people wonder where he got the technology that allows him to teleport. He obviously didn't invent it himself, and no one else on either side of the war has the ability, so all signs point toward him having stolen it. He's not really liked by his fellow Decepticons, because of his penchant to perform nasty pranks on them as often as he does it on Autobots. As such, most of his time is spent alone, plotting his nasty schemes and spiking other robots' gas tanks with sugar. He's not the first one to pull off stunts like that.
Dreadwing was once a Class Alpha drone unit but eventually became a warrior himself and placed in command of the rest of the Class Alpha drones. This gives him a lot of pull with the 'Cons, due to the sheer number of warriors he can call in.
Fiction
IDW Transformers movie comics
Many years ago, Dreadwing was a member of the Cybertronian armed forces under the command of Protector Megatron. After the discovery of a mysterious relic and a devastating attack by aliens Defiance issue 1, Megatron declared his military dictatorship of the planet and led the flight-capable soldiers into a counter-attack on the invaders. Dreadwing commanded the Class Alpha drones, but bungled the job, managing to lose half of their attack force in seconds. Defiance issue 2 Later, when Megatron branded Optimus Prime's followers as traitors, Dreadwing joined the new "Decepticons" faction. Defiance issue 3

During the ensuing civil war, Dreadwing spotted the All Spark and Megatron pursuing it, and reported it to Starscream. Starscream began to follow in his own ship, but the Autobot Ark appeared and released an explosive concussion chain, which badly damaged both Dreadwing and the Decepticon ship. The Reign of Starscream Issue Number One Fully repaired in the intervening years, Dreadwing was among those present to welcome Starscream on his return to Cybertron. Dreadwing offered to transfer the data from Frenzy's databanks and deliver it to Starscream, and also checked on Starscream's well-being after hearing an explosion. The Reign of Starscream Issue Number Three

When Starscream's Allspark failed, Dreadwing revealed he had used his massive drone army to take over the Cybertronian Decepticons, and, seemingly resentful of having been left behind when the Nemesis was launched, tried to use his troops to take down Starscream's team. However, Starscream and his loyal soldiers proved a challenge, and when the Autobots managed to deactivate the drones, Dreadwing made a run for his ship. Starscream followed, and Dreadwing tried to kill him using the transwarp energy from the space bridge. The ship arrived at the Mars terminal, destroyed, but with Dreadwing still intact. Unfortunately, so was Starscream, who ripped out his spark core and crushed it. The Reign of Starscream Issue Number Five

There were also lots of Autobot Dreadwings. While the Decepticon Dreadwings had camera lens-like faces, the Autobot Dreadwings had heads with faceplates. The Autobot versions also had slightly different bellies. Dreadwings of both sides have equal of Attack and Speed abilities, with little defence. Battle for the Allspark

Transformers The Game (console)
Dreadwings appearred as solo attackers for both the Autobot and Decepticon armies. Aside from the faceplate differences, Decepticon Dreadwings had a gray camo deco, while the Autobot versions had blue and yellow "Blue Angels" markings. Both were shielded against artillery in robot mode.

Their main weapon was a deadly flamethrower built into each arm. It had limited range, but hoo doggies does it hurt. They were also capable of creating a burning ring of fire by launching into the air then coming down slowly in robot form. They couldn't be hit with melee attacks while their flame throwers were in use. The only way to stop the flame throwers was to throw something at them, which would leave them vulnerable to melee attacks.

Autobot versions of the drone commonly accosted Starscream while he completed his objectives at a military airfield. Both sides used them as backups during the final showdown in Mission City.

During the final battle at Mission City, Jazz encountered two Decepticon versions individually. He beat the two of them, as well as Starscream and Blackout. Transformers The Game (console)
* The subtle differences between Dreadwing and the Class Alpha drone units are an appearance of purple bits on the drone commander, more spiky head chevrons, and something resembling eyebrow articulation that is absent in the drones.
Overcast gets his name from the dark clouds he generates with his built-in weather controllers. There is no silver lining within, however. This quiet, secretive Decepticon inventor is a dangerous adversary, equipped with a variety of experimental weapons so brilliant that even the Autobots might be impressed-if they weren't busy contending with sudden disabling bolts of electricity or being eaten away by ravenous nanites.
Overcast was one of Stockade's "new Decepticons", a group of Decepticons who remained on the dying Cybertron out of patriotism and survived by feeding on Nucleon. Transformers Comic issue 17 In order to rebirth their world, they tried to summon a replacement for the All Spark: an ethereal entity related to the last All Spark, one which could replace it. He was part of the crew that helped it enter Cybertron, and thus one of the first to learn they'd summoned Unicron into their planet. Transformers Comic issue 18

As the planet turned against them, Overcast was nearly killed and had to be saved by Stockade. Left severely pessimistic, he wondered how long they'd stay alive. Transformers Comic issue 19 Despite this, he joined the combined Autobot-Decepticon team that entered Cybertron's depths and stopped Unicron by shooting things. Transformers Comic issue 20

When Stockade made a deal with the Autobots and arrived to defend Earth, Overcast was part of his air support. He played the vital role of identifying a fulcrum drone to Fracture, ensuring the drones were turned. Transformers Comic issue 24 The New Decepticons quickly began to win, and in the penultimate battle Overcast was tasked with tidying things up (i.e. killing beaten enemies). He also wanted to know if they were really going to take the Decepticon Heartland and then just give Earth back-with Stockade hinting they might not...

It all became academic when they entered the Heartland to find Megatron back from the dead. Overcast ordered everyone into defensive formation before the battle was on. Luckily, the Autobots turned up to do their part of the deal, teleporting Megatron's crew to the dead Cybertron; unluckily, they had noticed the New Decepticons thinking about seizing Earth and teleported them too, leaving Overcast trapped there FOREVER. Transformers Comic issue 25

His victory was short-lived, as the Autobot-human alliance systematically hunted down and destroyed the Decepticons one by one. Overcast was shot down by the increasingly multinational NEST forces in Europe. Alliance issue 4
