'''Powerglide''', unlike most Autobots, can fly under his own power, and it goes straight to his pointy head. Give him any excuse and awaa-aa-aay he goes, dashing off into the stratosphere at 500 mph -- but not in a straight line. No, Powerglide is an aerial acrobat, able to perform stunts other Transformer planes would never dream of. Barrel rolls, tail stands, death spirals, screaming 3200-mph powerdives: none of these are too tough for this Autobot barnstormer, and if he has an audience, be they friendly or enemy, he is guaranteed to put on the air show of their lives.

Yet this seeming frivolity has saved his life countless times in combat. Powerglide is lightly armed with small concussion bombs and a nose-mounted thermal beam, and the former is practically useless in the air. Furthermore, his speed and power, impressive as they are, are vastly outclassed by most [[Seeker|aerial Decepticon]]s. Like the flying aces of World War I, Powerglide resorts to dogfighting maneuvers, using his flying skills to confuse and evade the enemy. This tactic works very well.

In fact, Powerglide's skill only aggravates his greatest weakness. He is good, and he knows it, and he misses no chance to show it. If this means he will seek out ever tougher foes to prove his mettle -- then he'll do that, even if it kills him. Some day, it might.

Powerglide was a brash barnstormer with a penchant for spouting gung-ho sayings like "And awaaa-aaa-aay we go!". He literally appeared out of ''nowhere'' to save [[Spike Witwicky]] when the boy had been thrown overboard [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]]'s spaceship, after the latter's plan to use a clone of Optimus Prime to destroy the Autobots failed. {{Storylink|A Prime Problem}}

Bumblebee and Powerglide were sent on reconnaissance mission to investigate some strange energy readings out at sea. Inside the temporal anomaly, they discovered a prehistoric island inhabited by dinosaurs. Powerglide had to save Bumblebee from an aggressive pterodactyl then attempted to repair Bumblebee's damaged jetpack, before abandoning it and flying Bumblebee off the island. Later, after it was decided that the [[Dinobot (G1)|Dinobots]] should be relocated to the island, Powerglide led the large brutes and Spike to the island. After Spike unwittingly got himself into several dangerous situations, Powerglide flew him back home. {{Storylink|Dinobot Island, Part 1}}

After Megatron demanded Optimus Prime's surrender in exchange of [[Elita One (G1)|Elita One]], Powerglide was among the Autobots who followed him to Cybertron. Once there, he was disbelieving of Starscream's claim that Optimus Prime had been destroyed. During their vengeful attack on the Decepticons, Powerglide met up with his girlfriend, [[Moonracer]], who thought Powergide was awesome. {{Storylink|The Search for Alpha Trion}}

Soon after hooking up with Moonracer, he was somewhat smitten with the fleshling female [[Astoria Carlton-Ritz]] after saving her from the Decepticons. They went on a date or two, but (fortunately) the only lasting result was a series of flashing lights under his chestplate in the form of a stylized heart. After thoroughly embarrassing himself by accidentally destroying several sets and props in an attempt to show off, Powerglide was among [[Sunstreaker|several]] [[Tracks|egotistical]] [[Warpath|Autobots]] who demanded to be given a role in a movie that [[Hoist (G1)|Hoist]] was starring in. Initially, his "role" amounted to crashing into a STORE while in jet mode (supposedly to stop "the crooks"). Soon afterwards, Powerglide and the other would-be-actor Autobots asked Hoist to talk to the [[Director]] to get them some "real" acting roles. After reworking the movie into ''Attack of the Evil Alien Robots'', the Director had Autobots given cheesy alien face masks. Powerglide remarked that the role was "the pits", and that he would rather do the stunt crashes. In a later scene, Powerglide demonstrated his rather wooden acting "skills". Powerglide appeared to have been destroyed during a disastrous Autobot attack on the [[Quintesson]]s led by a resurrected, reprogrammed Optimus Prime. {{Storylink|Dark Awakening}} However, he was later among the Autobots who attempted to stop [[Scourge (G1)|Scourge]] and [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream]]'s [[spark|ghost]] from stealing [[Metroplex (G1)|Metroplex]]'s [[Sensors#Optics|eyes]], so he must have gotten better. Powerglide was a member of [[Perceptor (G1)|Perceptor's]] resistance cell on [[Cybertron]], and was on hand to lift Blaster to safety out of the [[smelting pool]]. Shortly thereafter, he and the rest of the cell were transported to Earth over the [[Space Bridge]], where they were greeted by a[[ RAAT]] crew. {{Storylink|The Bridge to Nowhere!}} They were captured with the help of [[Circuit Breaker]] and disassembled. Unfortunately for an action junkie like Powerglide, the Ark crew dropped out of the war shortly after he joined. With Prime dead [[Grimlock (G1)|Grimlock]] took over, and the [[Dinobot (G1)|Dinobot]] commander wasn't interested in fighting the Decepticons to protect humans any more. He begged the renegade [[Blaster]] to overthrow the cranky T-Rex and end his boredom, but it...didn't pan out. {{Storylink|Spacehikers!}} Eventually, Optimus Prime returned and the Autobots become active again, but Powerglide was shot down in battle by some Decepticon aerial aces, including the ever-frightening [[Buzzsaw (G1)|Buzzsaw]]. {{Storylink|Dark Star!}} He was identified as deactivated several weeks later. {{Storylink|Yesterday's Heroes!}}

In the modern era, Powerglide was a member of one of the later-formed Autobot resistance cells on Cybertron, in communication with [[Smokescreen (G1)|Smokescreen]] and [[Tracks]] along with several other [[Mini Vehicle|Minibots]]. {{Storylink|Countdown to Extinction (comic issue)|Countdown to Extinction}} He participated in the final insurrection which threw [[Shockwave (G1)|Shockwave]] and his Decepticons out of power on Cybertron. Afterwards, he was assigned to [[Bumblebee (G1)|Bumblebee]]'s command and traveled to Earth on a supply run aboard the starship [[Orion]]. {{Storylink|Night of the Combaticons}} Their simple supply mission ended with heavy combat against the amazingly-powerful clone, [[Sunstorm (G1)|Sunstorm]]. The Autobots, in a fit of temporary insanity, decided to ally themselves with [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream]] in order to deal with this threat. Fast and intelligent, bored and lonely, '''Cosmos''' has reason to regret his abilities, which often separate him from his [[Autobot]] friends. Alas, his skills are far too extraordinary to ignore.

Few of his faction can achieve escape velocity and enter planetary orbit unaided, as he can, from planets as big as [[Earth]] or slightly larger. He carries fuel reserves sufficient for short orbital journeys; he is quite able to land on [[Earth| Earth's]] [[Moon]], then take off and return to [[Earth]]. Cosmos enjoys such diversions immensely. Generally, however, he remains in orbit, relaying messages, observing enemy installations, and watching for [[Decepticon]] activity in nearby space. His optical sensors are able to observe a human radio host standing outside in the high desert from 600 miles up.

As a living [[Transformer]], his advantage over a simple satellite is great, but it is a boring life for Cosmos. Every so often he breaks the monotony by hovering eerily above the backyards of Earth citizens, drifting silently behind the cars of lone drivers with his running lights on, or briefly jamming TV transmissions with reruns of ''The Outer Limits''. He has also been known to zigzag through meteor showers on a clear night, showing off his space piloting skills. Naturally, this causes some consternation to the poor humans he is supposed to defend, but it's all in good fun. [[Primus]] save us from bored techies.

Space. The final frontier. These are the voyages of Cosmos, Autobot deep-space reconnaissance officer. His continuing mission -- to observe Decepticon activities. To provide intelligence to the Autobots in their never ending war. To boldly crash where no other Autobot has crashed before.

Our hero began his adventures with a bang, appearing out of nowhere to blindly lead the Autobot spacecraft straight into the sun. If not for the impetuous [[Cliffjumper (G1)|Cliffjumper]] trying to change their course and realizing the controls were locked, Cosmos would have had the greatest crash of all. Still, he did his best to save his fellow Autobots in the end, as his deep space armor allowed Cosmos to come inside the ship and continue poking vainly at the control panel long after the others collapsed from their circuits overheating. [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]] had the idea to save the Autobots with [[Trailbreaker]]'s force field, and they managed to vacate the crumbling ship inside a massive force sphere, tethered to Cosmos to bring them back to Earth. Cosmos's knack for crashing almost did them in anyhow, though -- the same reprogrammed guidance directives that were controlling their ship were now being beamed by [[Teletraan I]] to Cosmos himself, forcing him to lead the force sphere back on a course into the sun. Only the freak chance of the Decepticon [[Thrust (G1)|Thrust]] visiting the [[Ark]] and blowing up Teletraan on a whim saved the Autobots, and allowed Cosmos to begin towing them back to Earth. Even though time was of the essence, we can only assume Cosmos didn't crash-land upon re-entry. {{Storylink|Megatron's Master Plan, Part 2}}

When next seen, Cosmos was patrolling the spaceways for Decepticon activity with [[Blaster]] (probably a punishment for actually liking Blaster's taste in music) when they came across a lunar base being run by [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]] and [[Astrotrain (G1)|Astrotrain]]. Against logic and precedent, Cosmos actually managed to make a perfect two point landing on a hillside near the base to eavesdrop. Enraged at Cosmos for defying all expectations and NOT crashing (not to mention the, uh...spying he was doing), Megatron ordered Astrotrain to bring him in as a prisoner. Prisoners of war, Cosmos and Blaster were then welded to the wall and used as a power booster and tuning mechanism for Megatron's trans-scrambler, wiping out all radio contact on Earth. Luckily, Blaster managed to send his own signal along Megatron's scrambling beam, alerting the Autobots to their location. [[Omega Supreme (G1)|Omega Supreme]] arrived and drew the Decepticons' attention away from their base. Left alone, Cosmos had to do little more than raise his arm to fire off a particle beam that totally destroyed Megatron's antenna array and saved the day, teaching tyrants everywhere once and for all not to underestimate an Autobot just because he's short, fat, ugly, lonely, nerdy and more than a little (Dare we say it?) spacey... {{Storylink|Blaster Blues}}

Possibly Cosmos' shining moment was one for most of which he wasn't even conscious. Cosmos crash-landed rather dramatically on [[Titan (moon)|Titan]] after being shot down by the pursuing Astrotrain, who was after the energy data the Autobot carried. Cosmos's body was discovered by the moon's natives, but Astrotrain quickly followed up, having overheard their superstitious discussion and set himself up as one of their Sky Gods. The cowed, religious people quickly obeyed him, and Astrotrain put Cosmos's body in the main temple for use as an idol. The rebel [[Talaria]] overheard Astrotrain musing to himself about Cosmos's short-circuit and managed to use Cosmos's systems to get an SOS to the Autobots on [[Earth]]. With barely enough power flowing through his systems to stay active, Cosmos found a better use for it: shooting [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream]]. With the Decepticon occupied for the moment, Talaria was able to escape unmolested. [[Jazz]] and [[Perceptor (G1)|Perceptor]] were dispatched to Titan via Omega Supreme, and Cosmos was recovered, the Decepticons sent packing, and the Titans (Titanians? Titanoids? Whatever.) were freed from religious dogma. {{storylink|The God Gambit}}

Somehow, Cosmos managed to talk Prime into letting him serve on Earth for a while as part of the Autobots' joint Crimebuster program with the NYPD. He caused a traffic jam by hovering over Times Square and later tried to chase down Starscream on foot with [[Powerglide]], only to end up causing massive structural damage to a human mall. Incidentally, Cosmos was back in space very shortly. {{Storylink|Make Tracks}}

After [[Shrapnel]] and [[Bombshell]] pumped out hundreds of [[Insecticon (G1)|Insecticlones]] to swarm over the countryside and gather power, Prime sent Cosmos into space to retrieve a giant can of [[robotic insecticide]]. (Really -- we can't make this stuff up.) On his way back with [[Spike Witwicky|Spike]] and [[Bumblebee (G1)|Bumblebee]], though, Cosmos was attacked by [[Morphobot]]s on [[Floron III]]. Although he managed to break loose of their grip, the techno-organic plants left behind spores on his hull which quickly developed into fully functioning vines that entangled Cosmos as he tried to re-enter Earth's atmosphere. Spike and Bumblebee escaped in an ejector chamber, but Cosmos did his crash-landing bit and was covered in Morphobots by the time he came to a stop, with the robotic insecticide can still inside him. Bumblebee summoned the other Autobots to try and help, and it was Blaster's obnoxious music that ultimately cleared the way and allowed them to free Cosmos. [[Hoist (G1)|Hoist]] promised to give Cosmos "the best overhaul he ever had" when they got back to the ''[[Ark]]''. Uh-huh...niiiiiice... {{Storylink|Quest for Survival}}

When he uncovered a Decepticon operation to mine ore from an asteroid they'd pulled into orbit, Cosmos rushed back to warn Prime and gather a strike force. Optimus stressed caution instead and ordered Cosmos back up into space to acquire some hard evidence on the Decepticon activity. Cosmos did as he was asked and actually managed to grab a sample of ore right out of Astrotrain while the [[Constructicon]]s were loading him up. He brought this "hard evidence" back to Earth to show Prime. The Autobot leader commended Cosmos on his work, but he wasn't quite done and sent Cosmos back out into orbit yet again, this time to track Astrotrain to the refinery the Decepticons must have been using to process the ore.
