'''Grimlock''' is a ''Tyrannosaurus rex'' in charge of a small, three-mech group of dinosaur transformers known as the [[Dinobot (Animated)|Dinobots]]. Born from a fusion of Earth and Cybertronian technology, with some [[AllSpark (Animated)|AllSpark]] intervention thrown in, he's a force to be reckoned with. A little short on brains (at first he didn't actually realise he was a Transformer) and a lot short on temper, Grimlock's answer to a problem is usually the simplest: squash it, slash it, bite it, burn it, or eat it.

Physically, Grimlock is one of the most powerful Transformers, with enough brute strength to give even the likes of Megatron pause for thought. In his beast mode, his powerful jaws and flame breath give him excellent short- and long-range combat abilities, while his flaming sword is an effective weapon in robot mode. Factor in his temper, and facing Grimlock can be a terrifying experience.

Currently, Grimlock and his fellow Dinobots are living on [[Dinobot Island (Animated)|an island]] in Lake Erie, hidden there by [[Prowl (Animated)|Prowl]] and [[Bulkhead (Animated)|Bulkhead]] from the rest of the world. Grimlock, [[Snarl (Animated)|Snarl]], and [[Swoop (Animated)|Swoop]] were originally theme park animatronic displays that [[Isaac Sumdac]] upgraded with the help of [[Megatron (Animated)|Megatron]] and a flash of [[spark]] from the [[AllSpark Key]]. When they came online, Grimlock dubbed himself the Dinobot leader, despite Megatron's commands. However, [[Tutor Bot]] brought up videos on how cars use fossil fuels. Grimlock believed this to mean that cars ate [[dinosaur]]s, and Megatron convinced them to destroy the "fossil feeders", including the only thing worse than cars...cars and trucks that turn into robots.

As the Dinobots raged against the machines, the Autobots drew them away from the city towards a park. Finally getting out of his funk, [[Bulkhead (Animated)|Bulkhead]] managed to throw them into a parking lot that their fire breath had melted into tar, trapping the Dinobots. After their defeat, they were imprisoned in an energy cage and were scheduled for meltdown. Believing they had life and were not just some mindless machines, [[Prowl (Animated)|Prowl]] freed the Dinobots with the help of Bulkhead and secretly relocated them to an island.

Dwelling within the peaceful forest, Grimlock dubbed cars and trucks bad, but nature good—until two birds pooped on him. Redubbing
nature stupid, Grimlock expected the two birds to fight like Dinobots, but they escaped! Tail twitching and stomach opening, Grimlock [[Transformation|transformed]], shocking Snarl and Swoop. He drew a [[Sword|huge, blazing sword]] and decided he liked the results. {{storylink|Blast from the Past}}

He was later forced by the villain [[Prometheus Black|Meltdown]] to attack Sari's would-be rescuers, Prowl and Bulkhead. Once Meltdown
was trapped and unable to hurt him, he demonstrated he'd learned to transform and joined his fellow Dinobots in threatening the
acid-thrower. However, before Meltdown could be hurt, Grimlock's attention was diverted to [[Colossus Rhodes]] and two of Meltdown's mutants, and he and the other Dinobots beat up on them instead. {{storylink|Survival of the Fittest}}

Shortly after this, the Autobots learned that the [[Decepticon|Decepticons]] were mobilizing, and Bulkhead spilled the beans on the Dinobots' location. Seriously pissed, [[Optimus Prime (Animated)|Prime]] had them take him to [[Dinobot Island (Animated)|Dinobot Island]], where he tried to convince the Dinobots to help them fight the Decepticons. Grimlock was...uninterested, to say the least. He told Prime that Dinobots didn't need robots to fight, but that they would destroy robots. When Prime pointed out that the Dinobots ''were'' robots, this seemed to compel them to fight each other. When Optimus brought [[Ultra Magnus (Animated)|Ultra Magnus]] and [[Sentinel Prime (Animated)|Sentinel]] to see [[Teletran-1|his damaged ship]], which had crashed into Dinobot Island as a result of [[Megatron Rising - Part 2|a recent Decepticon attack]], the Dinobots showed up. Optimus advised the [[Cybertron Elite Guard|Elite Guardsbots]] that as long as the Dinobots weren't provoked, they wouldn't attack. Sentinel thought they were just primitive scrap heaps and acted like it. Grimlock responded by transforming, taking out his sword and knocking the jerk flying. Alas, neither he nor the other Dinobots could withstand the elemental lightning summoned by Ultra Magnus, Bot of Thunder. {{storylink|The Elite Guard}}

Later, reports reached the Autobots of rampages on Dinobot Island, and Optimus sent Prowl and Bulkhead, the only two Autobots the Dinobots accepted, to investigate. Prowl's disbelief at the idea that the territorial but relatively peaceful Dinobots would be going on rampages was quickly dispelled when a furious Grimlock burst from the bushes and charged. He easily thrashed the two Autobots, and in his rage would have roasted a nest full of baby birds if Prowl hadn't used [[Ratchet (Animated)|Ratchet]]'s loaned [[EMP]] generator to drop the massive beast. But a blast that would have knocked out an Autobot for a while merely dropped Grimlock for a moment, and a few seconds later, he began to wake up. Upon examination, it was revealed that Grimlock had a large piece of metal embedded in his foot, and the pain had driven him mad. Prowl used the EMP generator to loosen the shard while Bulkhead yanked it out, and an exhausted Grimlock collapsed and allowed the Autobots to fix him up. {{storylink|A Fistful of Energon}}

When [[Blackarachnia (Animated)|Blackarachnia]] washed ashore after the defeat of Megatron, the Dinobots took her in as one of their own. Ever the [[wikipedia:Alpha_(biology)|alpha male]], Grimlock was quick to remind Swoop and Snarl that "Spider-Lady like me Grimlock best" (he was taller than them), and was not above using violence to drive the point home. After Blackarachnia discovered Meltdown's genetic research, she had the Dinobots take Meltdown from prison. When the Autobots arrived to investigate, Prowl and [[Bumblebee (Animated)|Bumblebee]] were poisoned with venom, and Grimlock accompanied Optimus Prime to the mainland to help him find the [[Genetic modifier|genetic thingy]] that Meltdown needed.

Arriving at [[Sumdac Tower]], Grimlock threatened [[Porter C. Powell]] with becoming lunch, which convinced the businessman to surrender the modifier. When the two Autobots returned to the island, Meltdown turned the tables on them, planning to remove Blackarachnia's technological half and leave him with an organic Transformer. To delay Grimlock and Prime, Meltdown sicced [[Fusion creature|his experiments]] on them. Grimlock nearly burned down half the forest while fighting "bad bat", but the other Dinobots arrived and helped them defeat the monsters while Prime put out the fire. After Prime defeated Meltdown, Blackarachnia urged him to hold her, causing Grimlock to attack Prime in jealousy. However, it was a trick to allow Blackarachnia time to escape, as Prime had predicted. He later looked on as an oil rig with the Constructicons appeared out of nowhere and exploded off Dinobot Island. {{storylink|Three's a Crowd}}

Grimlock and the Dinobots once again fall under Blackarachnia's sway. After having Swoop abduct [[Wasp]] she orders the Dinobots to stand guard. Sentinel Prime, along with [[Jetstorm (Animated)|Jetstorm]] and [[Jetfire (Animated)|Jetfire]], sneak onto Dinobot Island to retrieve Wasp. Sentinel tells the Jet twins to create a diversion to get the Dinobots away from the enterance so he can sneak into Blackarachnia's lab. Later when Sari went to get the help of the Dinobots to fight [[Soundwave (Animated)|Soundwave]], Grimlock and Swoop refused to help her. One day, it was raining really badly and making Grimlock's joints all stiff. Grimlock hate that! Then [[Sari Sumdac|that small girl thing]] came to Dinobot Island; Grimlock almost ate her as a trespasser, but then she said the Dinobots could stay in the Autobots' base until it stopped raining and all they had to do in return was hit [[Starscream (Animated)|some annoying guy]] and [[Starscream clone (Animated)|his clones]]. Plus, he got a souvenir in the form of a ripped off clone arm. Sari Grimlock's friend!

Grimlock was particularly annoyed by Soundwave's sonic attacks and smashed the villain with his tail. The Decepticons were quickly driven off. Some Autobots wonder why '''Grimlock''' is even on their side. His disposition is much more suited to the [[Decepticon]]s. After all, he values power and strength over wisdom and compassion, and furthermore, he doesn't really get along with most Autobots. When faced with a problem, his usual responses are to slice it with his [[Energo weapon|energo-sword]], tear it to pieces with his bare hands, or outright eat it. He is more willing to accept casualties than most of the Autobot leadership, and doesn't seem particularly concerned about the [[Human|fleshies]] either. These things, coupled with his dislike of [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]], have led to a defection or two on Grimlock's part. He'd have no problem offing the [[Prime (rank)|Autobot leader]] if he thought he could get away with it, though.

What the Autobots don't realize is that the only thing he hates more than weakness is those who abuse their strength, meaning when push comes to shove, Grimlock will always fall in on the right side of the fence. And despite their disagreements, Grimlock holds a respect for Prime's strength and leadership.

Grimlock is the leader of the [[Dinobot (G1)|Dinobots]], a small but powerful strike squad. Grimlock himself is extremely strong and durable, and is one of the few Transformers who can not only stand toe-to-toe with Optimus Prime and [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]], but actually give them a run for their money. Despite his strength and prowess, Grimlock continually struggles with his pronouns.

Inspired by dinosaur fossils, [[Wheeljack (G1)|Wheeljack]] and [[Ratchet (G1)|Ratchet]] built Grimlock, [[Slag (G1)|Slag]] and [[Sludge (G1)|Sludge]], who promptly went on a rampage. Wheeljack convinced Optimus to lock up the Dinobots, rather than destroy them. Upgrading them to be smarter and more obedient, Wheeljack sent the Dinobots to rescue the Autobots. Frustrated by the Dinobots' success, Megatron learned Grimlock desired to be Autobot leader and tried to trick the Dinobots into serving him, but Optimus's selflessness convinced Grimlock otherwise. The Autobots called upon the Dinobots whenever they were overwhelmed, but Optimus deemed them too chaotic to work at the [[Ark (G1)|Autobot base]] and even had them sent to [[Dinobot Island (G1)|an island populated by living dinosaurs]]. Angered by being taken for granted, Grimlock left, until [[Spike Witwicky (G1)|Spike Witwicky]] convinced him to help when the Autobots began to suffer from [[Cybertonium]] deficiency.

Grimlock lay dormant on the Ark when the ship detected [[Shockwave (G1)|Shockwave]] in the [[Savage Land]]. Fitting Grimlock and his four comrades with alternate modes based on the local fauna, the Dinobots battled Shockwave until they became stuck in a tar pit. In the present, [[Ratchet (G1)|Ratchet]] discovered their location. Grimlock almost immediately began butting heads with [[Optimus Prime (G1)/Marvel Comics continuity|Optimus Prime]] and soon he and his team left the Autobots.

Following Prime's death, Grimlock returned to nominate himself for the position of leadership, and proved his worth by leading the Autobots in battle against [[Trypticon (G1)|Trypticon]]. Unfortunately, power corrupted Grimlock, who lived up to his alternate mode's name by constructing a [[variable voltage harness]] to torture defectors like [[Blaster (G1)|Blaster]], and picking a fight with Autobots from [[Nebulos]] led by [[Fortress Maximus (G1)|Fortress Maximus]]. Prime was rebuilt as a [[Powermaster]], and appointed Grimlock and Fortress Maximus as his lieutenants.

Grimlock was deactivated in the wake of [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream]]'s [[Underbase]]-fueled rampage, but Ratchet revived him as a [[Pretender]] to battle [[Megatron (G1)/Marvel Comics continuity|Megatron]]. Battling the [[Mayhem Attack Squad]], Grimlock found himself in the heart of Cybertron where [[Primus]] lay, much to his [[atechnogenesis|disbelief]]. A blast by [[Octopunch]] intended for Grimlock hit Primus, awakening him and alerting [[Unicron]] to his presence. After returning to Earth and warning Prime, Grimlock joined the search to recover the [[Matrix of Leadership]]. During this time he stocked up on [[Nucleon]], which gave him a more powerful body, but at the cost of his [[transformation]] abilities. After Prime sacrificed himself to defeat Unicron, Grimlock was Autobot leader once more, and participated in a disastrous battle with [[Bludgeon (G1)|Bludgeon]]'s soldiers on the planet [[Klo]]. Astonishingly, Prime returned with the [[Last Autobot]], who resurrected the fallen Autobots and ended the war.

Hailing from an earlier era of the Cybertronian wars, Grimlock arrived in the [[Cauldron]] and soon found the unlikely allies of [[Megatron (Armada)|Megatron]] and [[Optimus Primal]]. They were confronted by two of [[Unicron]]'s Dark Generals, [[Reptilion]] and [[Striker]]. {{storylink|OTFCC Live-Action Drama}}

Striker was overpowered and held prisoner beneath Grimlock's mighty boot. Using his spark telepathy, Primal was able to at least temporarily override Unicron's corruptive influence on Striker (although Grimlock remained somewhat unconvinced). Grimlock's concerns became academic as Reptilion returned with Unicron's other generals, [[Obsidian (BM)|Obsidian]] and [[Tankor (BM)|Tankor]]. Luckily, [[Silverbolt (BW)|Silverbolt]] and [[Trailbreaker (G1)|Trailbreaker]] managed to orchestrate a jailbreak among the Cauldron's other "guests", so Grimlock and Megatron soon had all the reinforcements they needed. The [[Matrix Templar]] known as [[Snarl (BM)|Snarl]] helped forge a connection with Primus, creating a way out for the escapees. Years ago, before the war, Grimlock was part of a cage-fighting arena. He and [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream]] fought beside and against each other on numerous occasions. Starscream believed Grimlock was a natural born killer, but Grimlock really just carried a lot of rage and needed an outlet.

When the war began, Grimlock sided with the Decepticons. Then, after a while, he switched sides and went to the Autobots. Nobody is quite sure why or what happened. {{storylink|The War Within Preview}} He eventually became leader of a squad including [[Ironhide (G1)|Ironhide]], [[Kup (G1)|Kup]] and [[Wheeljack (G1)|Wheeljack]].

By the time [[Sentinel Prime (G1)|Sentinel Prime]] was killed and a new leader had to be chosen, the Autobots were losing the war, and Grimlock was growing impatient with the [[Council of Ancients]]' strategy. Grimlock called a secret meeting at the [[Helix Gardens]] with Prowl, Jazz, and his running crew: If the new [[Prime (rank)|Prime]] wasn't up to doing what had to be done, then they'd do it for him—and take the Prime out in the process. {{storylink|The War Within issue 1|The War Within #1}}

Optimus Prime, having defeated a team of Decepticons by himself, still didn't settle Grimlock's nerves. Prime's decision to evacuate Cybertron did it; Grimlock had enough. He left and went to brood by himself. {{storylink|The War Within issue 2|The War Within #2}} Starscream and his Seekers dropped by while Grimlock was alone. Starscream baited Grimlock, telling him he was a Decepticon inside and was just in denial. He gave him a choice: go to [[Sector Zero-Six]] and help the Seekers take out the Autobot command post, or warn the post about their arrival. Grimlock, out of spite, instead evacuated the Autobots from the base and left the Decepticons a present: a bomb. {{storylink|The War Within Preview}}

While he was on his way back to [[Iacon (polity)|Iacon]] to help with the defense, Prowl ordered him away, instead telling him to go find Optimus Prime. Grimlock decided that it was a good opportunity to give the new Prime a piece of his mind. {{storylink|The War Within issue 3|The War Within #3}} While he and the team went deep into Cybertron's core to find Prime, they found out about Megatron's plan to win the war and turn Cybertron into a mobile battle station with which to conquer the universe. Grimlock split up his team: He would go find Optimus Prime, and the rest of the team would shut down the transformation system for Cybertron. To his surprise, Prime abruptly was standing next to him. Prime ordered Grimlock to help him find Megatron. Grimlock shoved his [[Energo weapon|energo-sword]] into Prime's hands and gave clear instructions: If Megatron is the problem, then fix it. {{storylink|The War Within issue 5|The War Within #5}} When the crisis was over, Grimlock no longer questioned Optimus Prime. He knew that Prime had figured things out, and though he hadn't executed Megatron, he wasn't going to spend his time in the war running away. {{storylink|The War Within issue 6|The War Within #6}}

During the Dark Ages, Optimus Prime and Megatron were seemingly destroyed in a [[space bridge]] explosion, which created a crack in space through which the ancient being known as [[The Fallen]] emerged. With the loss of Optimus Prime, Grimlock broke off from the Autobots now led by Prowl and formed the [[Lightning Strike Coalition]]. Grimlock was targeted, along with [[Jetfire (G1)|Jetfire]], [[Blitzwing (G1)|Blitzwing]] and [[Hot Spot (G1)|Hot Spot]], by The Fallen, who wished to use their apparently unique [[Spark]]s to help in his revival of [[Primus]], which would allow Unicron to locate him. {{storylink|Fragmentation}}

The Fallen sent [[Bludgeon (G1)|Bludgeon]], [[Mindwipe (G1)|Mindwipe]] and [[Bugly]], who arranged for Grimlock to receive a communication between Jetfire and Shockwave. {{storylink|Devastation (Dreamwave)|Devastation}} Believing Jetfire was intending to defect, Grimlock headed for the meeting. However, when the [[Chaos Trinity]] arrived and captured Jetfire, Grimlock jumped out of the shadows and attacked. The Fallen had to watch his followers take a sound beating. After dispatching the mystics, Grimlock attempted to execute Jetfire. Grimlock being Grimlock, he launched himself at The Fallen, but was completely overwhelmed. {{storylink|Confrontation (issue)|Confrontation}} He woke up later strapped to a table and had to listen to Jetfire trying to convince him to help them both escape. Grimlock broke free with ease and was part of the multi-faction army that attempted to halt The Fallen's plans. {{storylink|Conflagration}}

Later, Grimlock served both as leader of the Dynobots and the right-hand bot to Ultra Magnus, who had taken control in Optimus' absence and had managed to secure a truce with Shockwave. Grimlock was less than happy about this, partly because he didn't trust the Decepticons, and partly because he had no idea what to do with himself in peacetime. He never got to find out, as the truce was betrayed by Starscream's forces, and Grimlock was apparently killed when he dove in front of a shot meant for Magnus. {{storylink|The Age of Wrath}}

Millennia later, the Ark and the ''[[Nemesis (G1)|Nemesis]]'' left Cybertron in search of new resources to fuel the war, but never returned. Grimlock and the Dynobots followed a [[Insecticon (G1)|group of Decepticons]] to a primitive world that would later be known to them as Earth, all of them looking for the lost Ark. The Dynobots assumed alternate forms similar to Earth's indigenous giant reptiles, dinosaurs, and fought off an attempted ambush by the small crew of Decepticons they had been tracking. {{storylink|Extermination}}

Millions of years later in 1984, the other Autobots and Decepticons on Earth awakened and the Great War began anew. The Autobots and humans eventually defeated the Decepticons and all the Transformers were to be sent back to Cybertron on the ''[[Ark II]]''. However, the ship was destroyed during launch due to sabotage by General [[Robert Hallo]] and [[Lazarus|Adam Rook]], in the hopes of recovering the Transformers and reprogramming them to be war machines. {{storylink|Prime Directive issue 1}}

At some point, Megatron captured the other four Dinobots, a fact which he used as leverage to get Grimlock to turn traitor and join the Decepticons after they were reactivated by Lazarus. {{storylink|Prime Directive issue 3|Prime Directive #3}} Grimlock's only real contribution to the Decepticons was crushing unoccupied cars in [[San Francisco]] {{storylink|Prime Directive issue 5|Prime Directive #5}} and being beaten up, and beaten down by [[Trailbreaker (G1)|Trailbreaker]]. Grimlock's apparent allegiance to the Decepticons didn't last very long, though, as [[Shockwave (G1)|Shockwave]] soon showed up with his [[Triple Changer]]s. Grimlock's true loyalty became obvious when he stopped Blitzwing from blowing off Optimus's head by grabbing his tank turret and bending it into a pretzel with one hand. After that, Shockwave sent Megatron off to Cybertron, prompting Grimlock to rejoin the Autobots in the ''Ark''. {{storylink|New World Order}} When Optimus's group surrendered to Ultra Magnus, some of the Autobots remained on Earth, Grimlock among them. He travelled to the frozen north, and freed the other Dinobots from Megatron's holding tank. {{storylink|Brothers' Burden}}

Stealing a Decepticon shuttle, the Dinobots then headed for Cybertron, intending to free Optimus Prime and his group. After a rough landing in the [[Wastelands]], they acquired [[Sixshot|some transportation]] from [[Octane]] and hurried to Iacon. {{storylink|Cold War (issue)|Cold War}} There, Grimlock did his part by leading a massive Dinobot assault on [[Shockwave's Tower]], before breaking off to take care of the Decepticon leader himself. Blitzwing again got in his way, and Grimlock was forced to battle both, a battle that was going his way until Ultra Magnus shot him in the face. {{storylink|Passive Aggression}} Perceptor repaired the Dinobot commander, and Grimlock did his part for the rebellion by giving Hot Rod some back-up. For a third and final time, he fought Blitzwing, this time taking out the Decepticon with ease, grabbing him by the tank turret and throwing him into a [[Guardian robot|Guardian]]. Leaving the main conflict, Grimlock followed Shockwave, Optimus Prime and Ultra Magnus into the citadel, and ended up saving the two Autobots, stating that he'd hate to lose the chance to pay back the "stuffy traitor". While the main group of Earth Autobots returned, the Dinobots remained on Cybertron to give Ultra Magnus some needed muscle. They were assigned to help Kup fortify the new Autobot bases on Cybertron's moons. {{storylink|The Route of All Evil}}

Grimlock was among the Autobots who were awakened by [[G.I. Joe (team)|G.I. Joe]] in [[1939]] after laying dormant on the [[Fera Islands]] for three million years. He was eager to start smashing Decepticons again, and probably would've smashed the humans as well if [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]] hadn't been here to tell him they were friendly. While the other Autobots were a bit wishy-washy about helping G.I. Joe in their fight against [[Cobra]] and their Decepticon allies, Grimlock threw himself into battle almost immediately, using his [[World War II]]-era tank mode to destroy one or two incoming [[Rattler]]s. {{storylink|Transformed}}

With [[Roadblock (G.I. Joe)|Roadblock]] as company, Grimlock fought his way across the Fera Islands until he ran into [[Rumble (G1)|Rumble]], whose earthquakes were too much for him and the other Autobot tanks to handle. {{storylink|Trial by Fire (issue)|Trial by Fire}} Grimlock was knocked off a cliff by Rumble's attacks, and as he was struggling to keep himself from falling to his doom, he urged Roadblock to save himself. However, the human refused to let Grimlock give up, and stayed behind to motivate him, drill sergeant style. While the human's words did give Grimlock newfound strength, the cliff still crumbled, and he and Roadblock fell. Thankfully, [[Superion (G1)|Superion]] saved them just in time, although Grimlock didn't enjoy feeling small in comparison to the combiner. {{storylink|Wolves}}

On the way to the Cobra [[Terrordrome]], Grimlock listened to [[Stalker (G.I. Joe)|Stalker]] being pessimistic about their chances of survival, and casually asked the human if he was a coward. Upon reaching the Terrordrome, Grimlock fought and defeated [[Soundwave (G1)|Soundwave]], having always hated him for his cowardly guerilla tactics back on Cybertron. Shortly thereafter, the Autobots and Joes came under attack from [[Bruticus (G1)|Bruticus]], and Roadblock suggested that Grimlock show the giant some real firepower... only for the Dinobot to be swatted aside like a fly. Grimlock and his team were transported to Earth's prehistoric past by a malfunctioning [[Teletran 3]]. A joint [[Cobra]]/[[G.I. Joe (team)|G.I. Joe]] team traveled through a time portal to bring them back. Unfortunately, Shockwave's Decepticons blocked their return. Just as Shockwave's victory appeared complete, [[Roadblock (G.I. Joe)|Roadblock]] and [[Lady Jaye]] successfully opened up the final time portal, and the humans returned, with some heavy artillery in the form of the five Autobots, now reformatted in huge, powerful dinosaur bodies. Grimlock took the lead by knocking Shockwave through a wall, and beating the tar out of the 'Cons, alongside his new Dinobots, their new abilities more than a match for the Decepticon forces. When the Decepticons retreated, Grimlock transformed and requested an audience with Optimus Prime. {{storylink|G.I. Joe vs. the Transformers II issue 4|G.I. Joe vs. the Transformers II #4}}

Grimlock was part of the small team sent to help with the Joes' decommissioning of their Cybertronian mechs. Grimlock was more than a little vocal about his distaste for the post, and lack of interest in the humans. He was, willing to help the Joes fight Cobra, when the latter attacked en masse... even if he complained about helping the weak fleshlings. {{storylink|The Art of War issue 1|The Art of War #1}} When [[Cobra Commander]] was cornered in an underground facility, Grimlock did his part by terrifying him into talking. They were interrupted when [[Serpentor|Serpent O.R.]] appeared, and attempted to take control of both Grimlock, and [[G.I. Joe battle mech|Roadblock's robot]]. Grimlock resisted, but Roadblock's robot turned around and punched him in the face. Grimlock responded by ripping its arm off. {{storylink|The Art of War issue 2|The Art of War #2}}

As Serpent O.R. teleported to Cybertron, Grimlock's team pursued him, but ended up having to fight off [[cannibalizer]]s in a junkyard. Although Grimlock was shot in the face and knocked down, he soon got back up and continued the hunt for Serpent O.R., only to run into his new troops—the [[Predacon (G1)|Predacons]], [[Seacon (G1)|Seacons]] and [[Stunticon (G1)|Stunticons]]. By the time the team arrived, they found that Serpent O.R. had stolen the [[Matrix of Leadership]], only to have his new "Serpentor Prime" body taken from him by Cobra Commander. Grimlock and Snake-Eyes attacked him, but were smashed into a wall by his tentacles and taken out of action. After [[Hawk (G.I. Grimlock is the leader of the D'''y'''nobots, a group of close knit hunters and guardsmen who, in no small part due to Grimlock's influence, prefer to work outside the Autobot rulebook.

At the start of Megatron's rise to power, the Dynobots turned out to an open casting call for Megatron's underground gladiatorial games, and got a good deal more respect from the Predacons than the other attendees. It turned out to be a recruitment drive for the Decepticon army. What they thought of that is unknown, as Autobot security forces raided the party soon after. {{storylink|Megatron Origin issue 3|Megatron Origin #3}}

He later met Slag again in a brig; Grimlock had angered a field commander but Slag had shot a vice-admiral in the back to con him into a frontal assault, so Slag won. Grimlock thought this Slag guy sounded like a good bloke, and the two of them discussed the formation of their own rule-breaking strike team. {{storylink|Maximum Dinobots issue 2}}

After [[Shockwave (G1)|Shockwave]] destroyed a cache of energon the Dynobots had been hoarding, causing them severe energon burns and equally severe humiliation, they swore revenge. So, against orders from Optimus Prime, they followed Shockwave when he left Cybertron to stabilize "[[ultra-Energon]]" deposits he had sent to other worlds as a precaution against the depletion of Cybertron's own energon reserves.

When Shockwave reached his first destination—Earth, at the end of the last Ice Age—the Dynobots destroyed his ship, but Slag revealed that the high energon levels of the planet would put them in stasis lock, since they hadn't come prepared like Shockwave. Slag then came up with the idea that they should scan the local life forms and create alt-modes based on those animals, but with synthetic flesh coatings to protect against the high levels of energon radiation. Grimlock was
completely against the idea, but since Slag couldn't come up with something better, he relented. However, he refused to take on the form of the weak mammalians that dominated the planet, demanding "something with some... bite." Scanning fossil deposits, Slag found the remains of some [[Dinosaur|extinct reptilian animals]] and brought up a holographic representation of one to see if Grimlock approved. What popped up was a ''Tyrannosaurus rex'', which Grimlock seemed to fall in love with the moment he saw it. The choice made, Grimlock took the Tyrannosaur as his altmode and had Slag find more dinosaurs as templates for the rest of the Dynobots.

On teleporting down to the planet's surface to confront Shockwave, they gained an initial advantage, as Shockwave's logic was unable to comprehend the effort and risks they had taken for their revenge. However, when Shockwave recognized this weakness, he shut down his logic processors and executed a "rage" program to enable him to operate on pure instinct. He shrugged off the Dynobots' attacks and beat them severely, ending the assault by burning off their organic coatings.
Unable to accept another defeat, Grimlock transformed to robot mode and fought against his imminent [[Stasis lock|stasis lock]] to no avail.

However, before leaving the Dynobots' ship, he had enabled a "dead man's switch" designed to take Shockwave with them if they were defeated. When he entered stasis lock, this failsafe activated, firing on a nearby dormant volcano and causing an eruption which buried Shockwave and the Dynobots under ash and lava. Thousands of years later, their entombed bodies were discovered by a human archaeological team. {{storylink|Spotlight: Shockwave}}

Thousands of years later in 2007, the [[human]] organization [[Skywatch]] took over jurisdiction of the dig site and excavated Shockwave and the Dynobots. {{storylink|Escalation issue 5}}

When the [[Reaper]]s attacked the Decepticons, Skywatch decided to awaken the most advanced of their "Eureka Six", which turned out to be Grimlock. {{storylink|Devastation issue 5}}

Grimlock's reactivation was sabotaged by an agent of the [[Machination]] and when he awoke, they had no control over him. He escaped the facility, confused and angry. His escape was engineered by the head of the Machination, [[Scorponok (G1)|Scorponok]], who wanted Grimlock to join him in the Machination plot to dominate the Earth by running interference and delaying Megatron's plans long enough for the Machination to put their plans into action.

Grimlock considered for a second, but refused the offer for two reasons: he could turn Scorponok in to Ultra Magnus for redemption, and as revenge for Scorponok once robbing an installation the Dynobots were guarding. The two fought and Scorponok quickly gained the upper hand, mostly due to his [[Headmaster (technology)|Headmaster]] upgrade. Grimlock was able to activate his transporter chip, which beamed him back to his ship, the ''[[Skyfire (ship)|Skyfire]]'', which was buried deep in ice somewhere. Grimlock hoped he could use the ship to find the other Dynobots. {{storylink|Spotlight: Grimlock}}

Finding himself trapped, both on a useless ship and in a less than inconspicuous form, Grimlock was forced to try and contact some of his less reputable acquaintances in an attempt to get the ''Skyfire'' into some sort of working order. Meanwhile, the Machination had tracked him down and had sent their [[Sunstreaker clone|Tsunami Unit]] to apprehend him. Grimlock's early warning system detected them, and he circled round as they began to attack, bursting from the ice and transforming. The battle very quickly turned in his favor with four of the clones falling in the opening moments. The surviving Headmasters were rather shaken, but managed to fulfill their mission: attach a device which would [[Orbital jump|orbital bounce]] him to Nevada, near Skywatch's base. Grimlock materialized in the middle of a busy street in [[Fallon]]. As a car crashed into his toe, he realized things had just gone from bad to worse. {{storylink|Maximum Dinobots issue 1}}

Grimlock knew Scorponok was trying to deliberately set him up as a rampaging monster, but ''didn't'' expect his fellow Dynobots to be sent to take him down! He was able to fight them all off but unable to break their reprogramming by appealing to their team ethos ... and when they ''did'' regain sentience and memory, it was because Scorponok let them so they could get pissed off at the knowledge Grimlock had set up a "dead man's switch" ''without'' informing them. Grimlock's defence was that such a sneaky, amoral and rule-breaking act was what the Dynobots were ''all about'', which surprisingly worked. While saying this, he grudgingly and with much moaning saved a human from burning to death. {{storylink|Maximum Dinobots issue 2}}

Convinced he'd brought his team round, Grimlock began issuing orders, only to be met by an icy silence. Swoop spoke for the group, saying his trust was hard earned and Grimlock tossed it away. Disgusted he abandoned the team, prompting the others to follow. Grimlock tried pleading with them, then turned in a huff, stating he'd be better off on his own. He was interrupted by the arrival of the Sunstreaker clones, who blasted him in the chest. Enraged, he vented his frustrations on the clones until their numbers began to tell. He was saved by the arrival of the other Dynobots, who felt that whatever had happened, they were still a team. However, they were overwhelmed by the sheer number of clones, until the arrival of the "help" Grimlock had requested earlier: the [[Monsterbot]]s. Seeing the newcomers take the fight to the enemy, Grimlock extolled his unit to show the Monsterbots how it's ''really'' done. Decimated and demoralized, the surviving Machination clones escaped with their lives. {{storylink|Maximum Dinobots issue 3}}

Aboard the Monsterbots' ship, the Dynobots wondered why Grimlock would side with the outcasts. They gave Grimlock a stern look when he exited the cockpit. The Dynobots didn't see the point of fighting Scorponok, but Grimlock said that Scorponok made it their fight when he turned the Dynobots against him. Snarl disagreed, saying that it had always been Grimlock's fight, that he and the other Dynobots went along with him, and that it was now Grimlock's wounded pride at stake. After the Monsterbots blasted away the defenses, Grimlock exited the ship, saying that there was no way he could let this go, and that with or without the Dynobots, there would be a reckoning for Scorponok. The Dynobots decided that arguing was pointless and followed Grimlock. When [[Hunter O'Nion]] pulled the cords from [[Sunstreaker (G1)|Sunstreaker]]'s head, shutting him down, the clones ceased to function. Grimlock stared down at Sludge's dead body, brooding about how it was his fault Sludge was dead... while a battle between Scorponok and Shockwave (for rights of revenge upon Grimlock) raged on around him. Eventually Snarl, Slag, and Swoop decide to get to the Monsterbots' ship while the getting was good, but Grimlock stayed behind with Sludge. Grimlock tried infusing some of his [[spark]] energy into Sludge to revive him, but it seemed to have no effect. Shockwave got the upper hand and let Scorponok escape, and in frustration, Grimlock attacked Shockwave. Grimlock and Shockwave were too busy fighting to notice the return of Slag, Snarl, and Swoop, who reasoned that, while helping Grimlock might not be much of a cause, it still beat being no better than the Monsterbots. They were noticed by Sludge, who seemed to have recovered due to Grimlock's treatment after all. The four of them dove into the fray proper, but Grimlock ordered them to go after Scorponok instead. When [[Hot Rod (G1)|Hot Rod]] was about to get squished by Scorponok, the remaining Dynobots showed up in just the nick of time. At Hot Rod's urgings, Swoop severed the connections keeping Scorponok's head conscious. Grimlock in the mean time had found out Shockwave was using their battle to stall for time so that Soundwave could free him from Skywatch's control. The Decepticon attempted to abandon the fight, but Grimlock stubbornly refused to let him walk away, and rolled out a grenade, which incapacitated them both.

By this time [[Ultra Magnus (G1)|Ultra Magnus]] had arrived and taken Scorponok into custody. Grimlock and Shockwave were both arrested and taken off-world. Ultra Magnus later told Grimlock that having Scorponok and Shockwave in custody could help offset Grimlock's own sentence. Grimlock wasn't interested, asking only that the blame was put squarely on him and that the other Dynobots' warrants were cancelled. Magnus agreed, and Grimlock was left to muse on the fact that Sludge and his team were alive and well, thanks to him. {{storylink|Maximum Dinobots issue 5|Maximum Dinobots #5}}

Grimlock was taken to [[Garrus-9]]. However, shortly afterward, [[Overlord (Masterforce)|Overlord]] and the [[Predator (subgroup)|Predators]] launched a devastating assault on the detention facility, killing or capturing most of the Autobot guards. When the [[Wrecker]]s broke into the jail in an attempt to liberate the facility, Kup and Guzzle were sent to maximum security to fetch Grimlock as back-up. However, upon reaching his cell, they found it was empty. The Decepticon [[Snare]] revealed that Grimlock was "long gone". When asked if Overlord had killed him, Snare replied that instead he had kept him alive, sending him footage of the pit fighting, forcing to watch the horrific events while he was powerless to intervene. Grimlock was less than thrilled about being forced to go through the [[Maximal]] downsizing. To add insult to injury, the resulting peace meant he had no outlet for his warlike tendencies. As such, he frequently volunteered for any dangerous, potentially risky or outright suicidal missions, and when forced on to a science or exploration vessel, he preferred to spend the entire trip in stasis, rather than dealing with the prolonged inactivity. Grimlock was among the ''[[Axalon (BW)|Axalon]]''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s protoforms when the ship crashed on Earth. When [[Razorbeast]] and [[Optimus Minor]] were attempting to "rescue" [[Megatron (BW)|Megatron]] from [[Magmatron]], the [[Predacon (BW)|Predacons]] detected a spark signature that was apparently off the scale, big and mad. Grimlock showed up and acted as the perfect distraction, making ''very'' short work of the Predacons. (Apparently, he was in a very bad mood after waking up and took it out on the Preds.) Magmatron offered Grimlock the chance to withdraw, and when the incredulous Grimlock refused, the Predacon general attacked. Magmatron narrowly arose as the victor by use of his triple beast modes. Later, when [[Prowl II|Prowl]] remarked they had work to do on Earth, with [[Ravage (G1)|Ravage]]'s Predacon militia still a threat, [[Wolfang (Maximal)|Wolfang]] reminded him that they had Grimlock on their side. {{storylink|The Ascending issue 1|The Ascending #1}} The bot in question was patrolling the jungle around the base at the time and bumped into the three-mech team of [[Manterror]], [[Retrax]] and [[Snapper]]. He only noticed Manterror and Retrax however, as Snapper was being crushed under his right foot at the time. While Retrax rolled for his life, Manterror had to face Grimlock on his own, and lost his wings for his trouble. This little group turned out to be a distraction, however, intended to lure the Maximals' big gun away while Ravage led an all-out strike on the base.

The former Dinobot wasn't about to be left out in the cold, however, and he returned to base ready for "the main course," which consisted of crushing [[Spittor (BW)|Spittor]] under his foot and tearing apart [[Iguanus (BW)|Iguanus]] and half a dozen other Predacons. When Lio Convoy and Ravage led a joint force to stop [[Shokaract]], Grimlock accompanied them. The former Autobot and former Decepticon had a moment of antagonism when the fight started. In 1984, while covering the news of the new [[Decepticon]] fortress in [[Oregon]], Peter Parker/Spider-Man intercepted [[Gears (G1)|Gears]], who had been sent on a scouting mission, and attacked, thinking Gears was one of the invaders. When [[Skywarp (G1)|Skywarp]] threw a tank at a gaggle of unwary reporters, Gears saved them, convincing Spider-Man he was good.

Spider-Man teamed up with the [[Autobot]]s to help rescue [[Sparkplug Witwicky]] from the [[Decepticon]]s. Spider-Man noted that he has had many adventures in his long history as a superhero. [[Optimus Prime (G1)/Marvel Comics continuity|Optimus Prime]] replied that he is sure tales of his exploits would be interesting... they could possibly even be described as ''amazing''.

Spidey managed to get the Autobots past the army with a little subterfuge, which lasted about ten seconds. While the Autobots dealt with both the human army ''and'' some invading Decepticons, he and Gears made their way into the base. After dispatching the cassettes and [[Soundwave (G1)|Soundwave]], the pair found Sparkplug, and [[Megatron (G1)/Marvel Comics continuity|Megatron]]! He used his webbing to completely mummify Megatron, but it didn't hold for very long. Megatron blasted a hole in the floor of their base, so Gears, and Sparkplug would plummet to their deaths. Webbing saved Spider and Spark, but couldn't hold Gears' weight.

Spider-Man was aghast that the Autobots would treat their comrade's apparent death so nonchalantly. He followed the Autobots back to the [[Ark (G1)|Ark]], and Prime failed to explain in any adequate sense how Gears was neither dead nor alive right then. Inside the building, they came under attack from automated laser turrets, and while Spider-Man was busy webbing them up and cracking jokes, he was suddenly electrocuted into submission and kidnapped by [[Runabout (G1)|Runabout]]. When he regained consciousness, he found himself strapped to a table by a giant robot named [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]], who explained that the hero was about to help him and his [[Decepticon]]s conquer the world. {{storylink|Man and Machine, Part One}} Megatron began extracting Spider-Man's radioactive blood, refining it into a powerful [[energon]] isotope that he used to supercharge his troops. Captain [[Archibald Witwicky]] and his crew of explorers stumble upon Megatron's body in the late 19th century. Megatron's navigational system is unintentionally activated, and [[Glasses#Movie|Archibald's eye glasses]] are imprinted with the coordinates to the AllSpark's location. [[Sector Seven]], a secret organization of the United States government, discovers the AllSpark and builds the [[Hoover Dam]] around it to mask its energy signal. Blackout and Scorponok attack the U. S. [[SOCCENT Forward Operations Base]] in [[Qatar]] in an effort to use the military database to discover the location of Megatron and the AllSpark, but they do not succeed. A small group of survivors under Captain [[William Lennox]] wander through the desert and are followed by Scorponok. The Autonomous Robotic Organism (shortened to "Autobot") known as Bumblebee is also on Earth, disguised as a 1976 Chevrolet Camaro, and looking for Sam Witwicky, the descendant of Captain Archibald Witwicky. He finds Sam at a used car lot where he is looking to purchase a car. Bumblebee covertly sabotages all of the other cars in the lot, leaving him as Sam's only option. Sam buys Bumblebee and the two quickly begin to bond as Bumblebee helps Sam try and woo his crush, [[Mikaela Banes]]. Sam is unaware of the fact that Bumblebee is an alien, until one night when he drives out of the house. Sam chases him on a bike to a factory area, calling the police in the process, and witnesses Bumblebee transform into robot mode and send a signal to the Autobots in space. The police soon arrive and Sam is arrested.

At the [[Pentagon]], Defense Secretary [[John Keller (Movie)|John Keller]] oversees the investigation into the attack in Qatar. After Blackout's failure, Frenzy infiltrates Air Force One and attempts to download all information relating to "Project Iceman". However, [[Maggie Madsen]], one of the technicians studying the Decepticon infiltration signal, discovers Frenzy's actions and convinces the Pentagon to take down the Defense Network, halting Frenzy's download. When [[Air Force One]] makes an emergency landing, Frenzy slips into Barricade, and discusses his discovery of Archibald Witwicky, who has seen [[Cybertronian languages|their language]]. Using an internet search, they discover that Sam's glasses will lead the Decepticons to the AllSpark. Frenzy and Barricade begin tracking Sam's location. Back in Qatar, the Army Rangers are attacked by Scorponok, and take refuge in a nearby village. Calling the Pentagon and getting air support, they discover that the Decepticons are vulnerable to high heat weaponry such as sabot rounds. Using this information, the soldiers inform the Pentagon that they now have a weapon.

Sam having been bailed out of jail by his father, gets the impression that Bumblebee is stalking him. A freaked out Sam flees from Bumblebee (who is in car mode) on his mother's bike. Bumblebee pursues him. Mikaela sees Sam on the run and follows him on her motor scooter. After Sam evades Bumblebee, he is confronted by Barricade who demands Archibald's glasses. Mikaela arrives as Sam is running away from Barricade. Bumblebee, still in car mode, then finds them and has them get in. Barricade chases Bumblebee to a power plant where Bumblebee transforms and battles the Decepticon robot-to-robot. Meanwhile, Frenzy chases Sam but gets his head decapitated by Mikaela. however his head still functions and takes the form of Mikaela's phone to hide in her purse. Bumblebee, who has defeated Barricade, properly introduces himself to Sam and Mikaela. He then takes them to rendezvous with the rest of the Autobots. The Autobots—[[Optimus Prime (Movie)|Optimus Prime]], [[Jazz (Movie)|Jazz]], [[Ironhide (Movie)|Ironhide]], and [[Ratchet (Movie)|Ratchet]]—land on Earth and take on the forms of several Earth vehicles. They all meet in a dark, secluded alley, transform in front of the two amazed humans, introduce themselves and tell of the reasons they had to come to Earth to Sam and Mikaela. Meanwhile, Maggie, unable to convince John Keller and his officers of the Decepticon virus' complexity, makes a copy of the intrusion signal and shows it to her friend [[Glen Whitmann]], who discovers a message with the signal about Sector Seven, Captain Witwicky, and [[Project Iceman]]. However, the FBI arrest Glen and Maggie, who desperately tries to convince them not to go to war with the wrong country.

Sam, Mikaela, and the Autobots then return to Sam's home to retrieve the glasses. However, agents from [[Sector Seven]] arrive to take Sam and Mikaela into custody. As Sam and Mikaela are taken away in one of their vehicles, [[Seymour Simmons]], the agency's director, reveals that Mikaela has a criminal record and threatens Sam with life imprisonment, at which point the Autobots disable the convoy and rescue the teens. Mikaela then explains to Sam that the only reason she has a record is her refusal to turn her father in for the crimes he committed, prompting her to ask him what he has ever sacrificed in his "perfect little life." Reinforcements arrive at the scene and the Autobots retreat. However Sam and Mikaela are recaptured and Bumblebee is also captured despite Sam's pleas to let him go. Prime orders the Autobots to let them go, unwilling to use deadly force against the humans. At the Pentagon, a virus Frenzy uploaded during the Air Force One hack causes a global communications blackout, while Keller is finally informed of the Transformers by a Sector 7 officer. After Bumblebee's capture, Optimus uses the glasses to locate the AllSpark at Hoover Dam, and declares that if they cannot defeat the Decepticons, he will merge the Cube with his spark, even though it will kill him.

Sam, Mikaela, Keller, Maggie, Glen, and Lennox's unit are brought to Hoover Dam, where they are shown the frozen Megatron and the AllSpark, while Frenzy slips away. Sam explains the Decepticons' plan to use the AllSpark to transform human machines to conquer the universe. Locating the AllSpark, Frenzy regenerates the rest of his body and sends out an alert to Starscream, who mobilizes the rest of the Decepticons. Due to Starscream's attack and Frenzy's sabotage, Megatron begins to thaw, and Sam, Lennox, Keller convinces the Sector Seven agents to release Bumblebee so that he can get the AllSpark to Optimus Prime. Bumblebee converts the AllSpark into a smaller state for transportation to [[Mission City]].

Glen, Maggie, Keller, and Simmons manage to contact the Air Force and direct F22s to Mission City. Frenzy tries to stop them but is killed. As Bumblebee, Sam, Mikeala, and Lennox's unit drive to Mission City, they come in contact with the other Autobots, in their vehicle modes, who change their coarse and go with their convoy. Barricade, Devastator, and Bonecrusher, in vehicle modes, pursue them and Bonecrusher transforms into robot mode. Optimus also transforms to stay behind and battle Bonecrusher, killing him. Meanwhile, the rest of the Autobots and the soldiers reach Mission City and attack by Starscream, Devastator, and Megatron. Bumblebee in crippled by Starscream while Jazz is killed by Megatron. Mikaela hijacks a tow truck to carry Bumblebee to safety while Lennox tasks Sam with taking the AllSpark to a building where it will be taken by military helicopters. Ironhide and Ratchet cover Sam as he makes his run to the building, protecting him form Blackout before being wounded by Starscream, leaving Sam to get to the building on his own.

Optimus finally arrives in the area and confronts Megatron. The two battle one-on-one before Megatron knocks Prime out and chases Sam. As Sam get to the roof of the building and is about to hand the AllSpark off to one of the helicopters, it is shot down by Starscream. Megatron destroys the portion of the roof the Sam is standing on when he refuses to hand over the AllSpark. However Optimus catches Sam and he and Megatron resume their duel with Megatron once again gaining the upper hand over Optimus. Meanwhile, Mikaela drives the tow truck in reverse to allow Bumblebee to fire on Devastator, who has Lennox and his men pinned down. Bumblebee kills Devastator and a full air strike is called in on Blackout and Megatron. As Blackout attempts to assist Megatron, he is killed by Lennox and the Air Force before he can engage. Starscream hides among a raptor squadron, destroying three fighters before being chased away. The Air Force and Lennox's rangers attack Megatron, inflicting serious damage upon him, but he is still functional, and heading toward the Cube. Finally, with both Prime and Megatron weakened, Prime beckons Sam to shove the AllSpark into his chest, destroying them both, but Sam instead takes the riskier action of shoving the AllSpark into Megatron's chest,destroying it, and killing Megatron instead.

And though Megatron is dead, the AllSpark's destruction leaves the Autobots unable to restore Cybertron. **When Mikaela walks home from the lake, the sun is still shining. Sam tells Miles that she "lives ten miles from here". After he picked her up, Bumblebee feigns an engine problem. By the time Sam gets him running again, the sky is still in an early stage of pre-sunset. By the time Sam drops Mikaela at her home, it's night again.
**Barricade assaults Sam in the middle of the day. Bumblebee intervenes and drives off with Sam and Mikaela still in broad daylight. During the ensuing car chase, sunset abruptly occurs once Bumblebee has left the warehouse, and it promptly turns night between shots.
* The Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) used by the US Air Force to investigate Scorponok's attack on Captain Lennox is modeled after the [[wikipedia:MQ-9_Reaper|MQ-9 Reaper]], but is identified as the [[wikipedia:MQ-1_Predator|MQ-1 Predator]]. Also, neither of these UAVs use jet engines.

* When Sam's car breaks down and Mikaela gets out to look at the engine, she leaves the passenger door open. When the car restarts and Sam leaves to close the hood, the passenger side door is now shut. But hey, maybe that was Bumblebee.
* Mikaela identifies Bumblebee's engine as having a "high-rise, double-pump carburetor" but the engine shown has no such carburetor.
* After Bumblebee backs into a corner of the power plant to evade Barricade, there is a close up shot of him spinning his wheels to make his getaway. However, the shot of the wheels spinning is at a different location: the empty warehouse that Bumblebee and Barricade had raced through moments earlier.
* Possibly an error, or possibly just a confusing shot setup, but when Bumblebee makes his escape, Barricade appears to change positions multiple times as camera angles change. Bumblebee guns his engines as Barricade is just starting to cross in front of him, but as Bumblebee speeds backwards, Barricade has backtracked well out of the way.
* After scanning his new Concept Camaro alt-form, Bumblebee's robot body displays either battle-worn parts or brand new parts at random times for the duration of the film.

* As long as Bumblebee transforms into a 1976 Camaro, his license plate consistently reads "489 PCE" both in vehicle and robot mode. After scanning his modern Camaro alternate mode, the license plate changes too... which isn't actually an error. What ''is'' an error, though, is that the new license plate keeps changing from "900 STRA" in vehicle mode to "4NZZ454" in robot mode.
*Jazz's license plate is equally inconsistent: On his robot mode chest it's "1-4027E", but during his transformation before his fight with [[Brawl (Movie)|Brawl]], he sports the license plate "664 NLZO" in vehicle mode. What's worse, "1-4027E" is also ''Barricade's'' license plate in vehicle mode, as can be seen when he slows down and then accelerates again after having seemingly cornered Bumblebee.
* During the scene where Optimus Prime scans a truck for his new body, the passing truck has what appears to be an Autobot sigil on its grill, but the actual truck that Prime turns into at the end of the scene has a much wider, flatter symbol on the grill, quite possibly a Peterbilt logo.
* When Simmons replays Sam's "last words" recorded onto his cell phone, it doesn't match what he said in the scene where he actually recorded them.
* When the Autobots arrive to rescue Sam and Mikaela from Agent Simmons, Ironhide is the first Autobot to reach the damaged SUV and the other Sector Seven agents. Behind him, Ratchet is making his way towards the SUV, while Jazz and Bumblebee have their respective weapons drawn. However, in the very next shot, Ratchet's gun is suddenly in front of Ironhide, who is now making two short steps towards the SUV, while Jazz's gun has been replaced by his hand (which he uses to pull Sector Seven's guns away magnetically). In the shot after that, Jazz is just standing around sans Sector Seven guns, while Bumblebee wanders up and draws his gun...again.

* When Banachek shows Keller photographs of the Decepticon that destroyed the [[Mars (planet)|Mars]] [[Beagle 2 Rover]], and supposedly a photo of Blackout taken by Epps during the attack on SOCCENT Qatar, "Blackout's photo" is clearly taken during the day, complete with the sun behind the Decepticon as a major light source, whereas the attack on SOCCENT took place in the evening. This was either a continuity error or a ham-handed attempt to make the audience realise the attackers in both photos are one and the same by making the photos look similar.
** Not to mention that the actual Beagle 2 was a '''''European''''' Space Agency '''''lander''''', not a [[NASA]] Rover.
* During the montage where Bumblebee's frozen body is being transported inside Hoover Dam via a moving platform whilst the Autobots discuss his fate, in one of the shots the physical Bumblebee prop is missing its distinctive car doors.
* During the first half of the movie, Maggie is wearing a slim striped skirt, but she is suddenly dressed in 3/4 jeans in the scene when they arrive at Hoover Dam.
*This may not be an error, but Barricade seems to disappear after the highway scene, as he is never shown again in the movie or the [[Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (film)|sequel]]. [[Wheelie (ROTF)|Wheelie]] later pulls the same trick in said sequel.
* When Ironhide transforms and performs a somersault to dodge Brawl's missiles, he is seen rising first, then falling. At that moment, he is already almost at the ground, low enough to touch the ground if he stretched his arms. However on the next scene, he has gone much higher up, high enough to fire both the cannons on his arms then perform a midair somersault.
* When Lennox arrives as Sam and Mikaela are supposedly strapping Bumblebee with the tow truck's chains, Bumblebee is not actually there. When the shot changes angles to the other side of the truck, Bumblebee is sitting right beside the truck while Sam directs Mikaela to wrap Bumblebee in the chains. When Lennox tells Sam to evacuate the Cube, subsequent camera angles from this side of the truck are actually where Bumblebee was moments earlier, but he's not there again (it is unlikely the angle was meant to be from Bumblebee's perspective). When Sam starts to run off and Mikaela calls him back, Bumblebee is once again clearly not sitting beside the truck. In fact, the space he once occupied has the beige van he crawled out of, earlier in the battle. What makes this all the more bizarre is that the life-sized Bumblebee prop was actually used for some of the scenes that depict Bumblebee strapped to the tow truck.

* After Optimus Prime and Megatron land in the city streets after flying through the office tower, Megatron throws the Autobot leader a short distance away, causing him to land on a parked car. After Megatron forms his fusion cannon, Optimus Prime has suddenly moved further down the street and the car he crushed, along with the other abandoned cars, have vanished. Also, in this shot, Optimus' feet don't make craters or any visible mark on the concrete. Yet, when Optimus is running from the Sector Seven Agents, he's making huge craters while he is side-stepping cars. (This comes with weighing over four tons and running 40 miles an hour.) Additionally, Optimus stops at the intersection just in front of Megatron to pull out his Ion blaster in this shot, but when it cuts to a shot to the left-front of Optimus, he is only mid-way up the street, and there is a parked yellow cab at the curb which was empty seconds earlier. Funnily enough, this curb was where the crushed car was parked.
* During the fight towards the end of the film between Megatron and Optimus, it is shown that Optimus is about the same size as Megatron in robot mode. Yet, in vehicle mode, Megatron is a great deal larger then Optimus is. Similarly, Starscream seems to be smaller than Megatron in robot form, leading to the logical conclusion that he is smaller than Optimus as well. Yet in vehicle mode, he is nearly four to five times larger, seeing as an F-22 Raptor is a great deal larger than a Peterbilt 379 tractor cab. And they say they don't have [[scale]] problems.
* ''See also: [[Mission City]].''
*The phone number on the doors of the tow truck is "800-555-0199" when Mikaela is driving it, but when she gets out, the number changes to "800-555-MIKE". The font is slightly different, too.
* In the battle at Mission City, Brawl very clearly fires 3 missiles out of his shoulder-mounted missile launcher, but before he dies, all 4 missiles are in his missile launcher. Then again, this could just be a sort of 'auto-reload' thing the Transformers have going on, as they probably wouldn't get very far in battle if they were only limited to 4 missiles each.
* When Keller is meeting with the other officials, he says they're going to dump the bodies of the Decepticons into the Laurentian Abyss, the deepest place on the planet. The deepest place on the planet is the Mariana Trench.
* Optimus said the Autobots learned English via the internet. Megatron was frozen before the internet. And yet, when Megatron broke free, he suddenly just knew English.

===Explicable discrepancies===
* Sam and Mikaela, as well as Maggie and Glen arrive at Hoover Dam on the same helicopter despite being from opposite ends of the country. Occasionally cited as an error, it is actually a narrative oversight, as it is likely that Sam and Mikaela were held in custody at a U.S. Air Base while waiting for Maggie and Glen to arrive with Secretary Keller's party by plane, then they all left for Hoover Dam together on the helicopters.

* There are some problems with Simmons's statement about various technologies being reverse-engineered from Megatron. Cars came about in one shape or form at about the turn of the century, and spaceflight technology was pioneered by German and Soviet scientists. (This is possibly what [[Sector Seven|they]] ''want'' you to think.) Then again, [[Seymour Simmons|Simmons]] also thinks that Nokia is a Japanese company...

* Most people mistakenly confuse the date of Megatron's discovery with the date the Hoover Dam was built. Based on the various dates given by Banachek, it's clear that Megatron was ''left in the Arctic'' for many years before being moved to Hoover Dam, making his discovery easily pre-date cars.

==Transformer references==
The movie contains a number of nods and winks to previous iterations of ''Transformers'', primarily from ''[[Generation 1 (franchise)|Generation 1]]''. Some of these were included in direct response to urgings of the fans; others originated with the production crew.

* The basic story set-up is similar to many iterations of the ''Generation 1'' story — two warring factions, the noble Autobots and the power-hungry Decepticons, arrive on Earth, having left their devastated home planet, the war-torn mechanical world of Cybertron.
* Many of the featured Transformers are re-imagined versions of characters from ''Generation 1''. [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]] and [[Jazz (G1)|Jazz]] in particular are similar in physical form and characterization to their movie incarnations. The Movie versions of [[Bumblebee (G1)|Bumblebee]], [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]], [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream]], [[Ratchet (G1)|Ratchet]], and [[Ironhide (G1)|Ironhide]] differ in appearance but fulfill story roles similar to their original versions.
* Though the characters are new, "[[Frenzy (disambiguation)|Frenzy]]", "[[Scorponok (disambiguation)|Scorponok]]", "[[Brawl (G1)|Brawl]]/[[Devastator (disambiguation)|Devastator]]", "[[Blackout (disambiguation)|Blackout]]", "[[Barricade (disambiguation)|Barricade]]", and "[[Bonecrusher (disambiguation)|Bonecrusher]]" are all names that have been used on Transformer characters before.
* Blackout's symbiotic relationship with Scorponok originated as an interpretation of [[Soundwave (G1)|Soundwave]] and his cassette troops. Frenzy's transformation into a portable stereo is likewise a homage to Soundwave's cassette deck alternate form.
* Sam shares his last name with the [[Witwicky#Generation 1 continuity family|main human allies]] of the Autobots in the original [[The Transformers (cartoon)|''Generation 1'' cartoon]]. Like Spike before him, he's closest to Bumblebee.

* Although the Transformers' primary energy supply, [[Energon]], does not make an established physical appearance in the film, its name appears on the license plate of an SUV thrown through the air during Megatron's rampage in [[Mission City]].

The 2007 Transformers film has more than one "cut."

* The worldwide theatrical release was essentially identical all around the world with a few minor exceptions.
* The film board of Malaysia{{fact}} required [[Judy Witwicky]]'s masturbation reference be removed. However, no such change has been made and her lines were not omitted from the film.
*Glen's line, "that killer robot is really distracting", was cut from DVD releases. However, it is featured in the official novelization of the movie and at least one trailer.

Whether one considers that a good or bad thing for a movie and if the movie was enough fun to overcome that is, of course, highly debatable. The other main culprit, again noted by many of the positive reviews, was its long running time, particularly the overly-chaotic, often hard-to-follow final big-bang extended ending action sequence. Transformers was nominated for three Oscars, in the fields of Achievement in Sound Editing, Achievement in Sound Mixing, and Achievement in Visual Effects. The sound awards went to ''The Bourne Ultimatum'', and the visual effects award went to ''The Golden Compass''.

In 2000, director Joseph Kahn pitched his treatment for a live-action Transformers film to [[Sony]], but they eventually lost interest in a film. A lot of details about the movie changed during the pre-production phase (and even still during production and post-production):

* The script was originally supposed to center around the [[Matrix of Leadership|Matrix]], but because the studio wanted to avoid association with the ''Matrix'' movie trilogy, it had to be renamed. Shockwave was recruited by Megatron because his mass-shifting abilities allowed him to impersonate effectively a wide variety of shapes and sizes, making it difficult for Autobots to accurately track him during missions of infiltration and sabotage. It was these traits which led to Megatron sending him to enlist in the Autobot armed services as a means of climbing the ranks and eventually taking the organization down from within.

With the aid of [[Blackarachnia (Animated)|Blackarachnia]], {{storylink|Transformers Animated: The AllSpark Almanac|The AllSpark Almanac}} Shockwave crafted a young Autobot persona and form for himself from old historical records <ref>Shockwave's on-package bio</ref> and enrolled in [[Autobot boot camp]], where his ability to stretch his limbs to great lengths (a limited use of his ability to change shape and size) earned him the name "Longarm" from his drill sergeant [[Sentinel Prime (Animated)|Sentinel Minor]]. However, he slipped up in the early days of training and was overheard reporting to Megatron by the black sheep recruit [[Bumblebee (Animated)|Bumblebee]]. Although Shockwave managed to avoid detection right away, Bumblebee was tipped off to the presence of a traitor in the camp and suspected fellow recruit [[Wasp]], whom he spotted leaving the building shortly afterward. Bumblebee turned to the espionage-savvy Longarm for advice, and Shockwave used the opportunity to divert attention away from himself. He suggested that the young Autobot refrain from telling their commander, [[Sentinel Prime (Animated)|Sentinel Minor]], so that Bumblebee could take all the credit himself. Unfortunately, all of Bumblebee's efforts only got him in worse trouble, and his fellow recruits began to bully him, with Longarm being the only one to stick up for him. After several failures on Bumblebee's part, Shockwave took matters into his own hands during a training exercise and switched the training equipment to live ammo in an attempt to offline Bumblebee and keep the whole matter of a traitor a secret. Luckily for Bumblebee, this plan was foiled by [[Bulkhead (Animated)|Bulkhead]].

Eventually, Shockwave found out that Sentinel Minor intended to conduct a surprise inspection, and he contrived to set up Wasp to take the fall himself. After planting a Decepticon communicator in Wasp's locker, Shockwave, as Longarm, informed Bumblebee of the upcoming inspection, telling him that it was his last chance to find the evidence he needed. Using one of his extensible limbs to trip up Wasp, Shockwave allowed Bumblebee to palm Wasp's locker key as 'Bee helped him up, allowing him to find the communicator and show it to Sentinel. In the end, Wasp was dragged off to prison, and Longarm commended Bumblebee for his deductive work.

Subsequently, Shockwave graduated boot camp and eventually became the head of [[Cybertron Intelligence]]. Now "Longarm [[Prime (rank)#Transformers Animated|'''Prime''']]", he remained in this position, hiding in plain sight, for the fifty stellar cycles that Megatron was lost on [[Earth]]. {{storylink|Autoboot Camp}} He murdered [[Highbrow (Animated)|Intel director Highbrow]] to get the job. <ref>''[[Transformers Animated: The AllSpark Almanac Volume 2]]''</ref>

After Megatron succeeded in restoring himself and the Decepticons were assembled on Earth, he re-established contact with Shockwave on Cybertron and initiated a plan to construct a [[space bridge]] that would allow the Decepticons to conquer the planet from within. {{storylink|Mission Accomplished}} Wasp, now criminally insane, escaped from prison, and Megatron started receiving transmissions from his double agent on Cybertron. When Megatron's captive, [[Isaac Sumdac]], attempted to alert the Autobots to the existence of the double agent by bouncing a transmission to their base, Bumblebee again suspected Wasp. He reported the news to Longarm Prime on Cybertron, but of course, that accomplished nothing. {{storylink|Autoboot Camp}}

When the completed space bridge failed to function, Megatron contacted Shockwave and instructed him to locate the top space bridge specialist on Cybertron to help correct the problem. Shockwave was surprised to discover that the specialist was already on Earth; it was Bulkhead! Bulkhead was subsequently captured by Megatron and forced to perfect the space bridge. {{storylink|A Bridge Too Close, Part I}} The other Autobots arrived too late to stop him, and they were defeated by the Decepticons and strung up to watch as the bridge was activated. Shockwave revealed his alter ego of Longarm Prime to the Autobots, disclosing that he had already given Megatron an appropriate access code and forcing Bumblebee to feel the shame of sending an innocent Wasp to prison. When Megatron tried to test the space bridge by sending Optimus Prime through it, Shockwave assured his master that he awaited the "test subject" on the other side. Unfortunately, an attempt by Megatron to boost power caused the space bridge to overload, deleting the access code and setting the space bridge to random coordinates. {{storylink|A Bridge Too Close, Part II}}

Megacycles later, Shockwave, as Longarm once more, assured Ultra Magnus that the Decepticons would not be able to reach the Cybertron Space Bridge nexus. Shockwave then contacted [[Team Chaar]], who had successfully taken over a space bridge and were ready to use it in order to gate to Cybertron. [[Strika (Animated)|Strika]] asked for permission to begin the assault, only to have Shockwave deny her request. She was to stay put with her team and wait for Megatron to arrive, even if he was megacycles overdue.

Not long afterward, the entire Space Bridge Nexus powered down. Confused, Longarm questioned Cybertron Command, and [[Cliffjumper (Animated)|Cliffjumper]] informed him that Ultra Magnus had ordered the shutdown in order to prevent the Decepticons from accessing Cybertron. Just then, Agent [[Blurr (Animated)|Blurr]] arrived and (very) quickly informed Longarm that while on Earth, he had intercepted a transmission between Megatron and his double agent on Cybertron, Shockwave. Further, Blurr noted that Shockwave's voice didn't match that of the suspected Wasp, but quick search of the Cybertron Intel Database would allow them to find the true identity of the traitor. Shocked, Longarm asked if Blurr had shared this information with anyone else. When Blurr replied that he had not, Shockwave decided it would be wise to quiet him down—permanently. Blurr eluded his initial attempts and escaped into the corridors around the nexus control center. Rather than give chase, Shockwave simply had the corridors' security hatches slam shut and close in on Blurr, trapping and crushing him to death.

At the [[Metroplex (Animated)|Metroplex]], Longarm handed over Blurr's remains to Cliffjumper, calling the small cube "sensitive materials." He received an incoming transmission from Lord Megatron in his private office. They traded information on their respective setbacks, but Megatron assured Shockwave that he had [[Omega Supreme (Animated)|a method]] of preventing the Earth Autobots from blowing Shockwave's cover.

Shortly, Longarm Prime attended an [[Autobot High Council]] meeting, where Ultra Magnus declared that the Decepticons' attacks were too organized to be random acts of sabotage. Rather, evidence pointed to a double agent in the Autobots' midst. Longarm nervously pointed out that the Decepticon uprisings had started after Wasp's escape, making the cause plain. Ultra Magnus agreed and ordered [[Jazz (Animated)|Jazz]] and Sentinel Prime to organize an Elite Guard Unit to find the escapee. He then requested that the Earth-bound Autobots be contacted. Increasingly distraught, Longarm declared that all communications should be first filtered through him, without exceptions—for the sake of security and the protection of Cybertron, naturally. {{storylink|TransWarped}}

Unfortunately, Longarm's insistence on diverting blame toward Wasp was his undoing. When Wasp headed to Earth, Ultra Magnus didn't inform him about Wasp's destination until the Elite Guard's ship was in sight of the planet. Knowing he was on the verge of being exposed, Shockwave tried to contact Megatron, but still received no response. With no other orders on how to proceed, Shockwave took matters into his own hands: In an effort to inflict one last blow to the Autobots, Shockwave attacked and seriously damaged Ultra Magnus, stealing his Magnus hammer in the process. {{storylink|Where Is Thy Sting?}}

When the Autobots became trapped in [[Soundwave (Animated)|Soundwave's]] virtual reality, Shockwave appeared to invade and attack Earth. However, he didn't seem to do much besides set an apartment on fire. {{storylink|Human Error, Part I}}

After escaping, Shockwave hid in an underground tunnel, concealed from detection, waiting for Megatron to call. The Decepticon leader, trapped inside of [[Omega Supreme (Animated)|Omega Supreme]] along with [[Starscream (Animated)|Starscream]] and [[Lugnut (Animated)|Lugnut]], contacted Shockwave, who revealed a way to gain the access codes for Omega Supreme. However, Shockwave was soon discovered by [[Ratchet (Animated)|Ratchet]] and [[Captain Fanzone]]. He easily defeated them and went to find the female intelligence agent [[Arcee (Animated)|Arcee]]. To do this, he "asked" an informant-bot named [[Rattletrap]] for the directions. However, he apparently got lost, and so merely hid and waited for Fanzone and Ratchet to find her. He battled Ratchet and severely wounded the elderly Autobot. During the battle, he then found Ultra Magnus, still wounded. He was about to kill him for good when Ratchet used his EMP generator on both Shockwave ''and'' Ultra Magnus's hammer. Ratchet was then distracted by the arrival of temporary Magnus Sentinel Prime. After getting back online, Shockwave took Arcee and escaped to Omega Supreme, using the access codes to transwarp to Earth's orbit. He then celebrated his freedom to serve Megatron openly by [[electronic paint job|changing]] into more... [[Shockwave (G1)|suitable colors]], while Lugnut silently fumed at Megatron's description of him as his "most loyal servant". {{storylink|This Is Why I Hate Machines}}

Shockwave worked on the captured Arcee, initially hitting an early datatrax from her time as a teacher before the Great War. Megatron assured his "ever-loyal Shockwave" that if any bot could access the right datatrax, it was him. Combined with some taunting by Starscream, this sent Lugnut into a frenzy of jealousy, and he knocked Shockwave across the room as he begged for Megatron's favour. Shockwave in turn pointed out that while Lugnut was "fawning at Megatron's feet", he'd risked "spark and servo" as a double agent. This didn't go over well, and soon the two purple 'Cons were fighting one another. Later, with both sent to convert material from the wrecked [[Nemesis (Animated)|Decepticon flagship]] into [[Lugnut Supreme|clones of Omega Supreme]], Shockwave could be seen pointing and laughing at a misfortune on his rival's part.

After dropping a bit of stripped material from the wrecked ship, unwittingly nearly crushing a spying Bumblebee, Shockwave returned to working on Arcee and successfully restored her to the [[The Thrill of the Hunt|point at which her memory was wiped]]. Briefly returning to his grey "Longarm" mode, he confirmed that she had the activation codes, so he ripped the wires which artificially sustained her from her head, knocking her back into stasis. Outside, with the clones ready for activation, he rebooted Arcee. Despite "Longarm's" prompting, she refused to give the activation codes to Megatron voluntarily. Instead, Shockwave knocked her back into stasis and extracted the codes manually, making no comment when they ended up in Lugnut and Megatron proclaimed Lugnut his "most loyal lieutenant". As it turned out, however, the codes which Shockwave had torn from Arcee were missing a crucial "security upgrade patch", and he was forced to rig up an inelegant bypass—involving Lugnut directly puppeteering the clones—until he could retrieve the rest of the code from Arcee. {{storylink|Endgame, Part I}}

As Shockwave attempted to find the patch in Arcee's processor, Megatron grew impatient with Lugnut's giving a long speech on the greatness of his Glorious Leader before he would actually do anything with the clones, and angrily inquired of Shockwave if he was done yet. Shockwave replied, with great amusement in his voice, that he was still working on it and Megatron would have to relay all orders through Lugnut for the time being.

Apparently, he gave up on extracting the patch, and instead left Arcee - her datatrax once again reverted to her teaching days - on the lunar surface as a trap, while he waited to ambush any Autobots who came for her and Omega Supreme. The group which transwarped there, led by Ratchet, blundered straight into the trap, and Ratchet was forced to flee with Arcee and [[Sari Sumdac]] while Bumblebee and Bulkhead confronted their old classmate. While Shockwave initially had little difficulty as they attempted to attack from distance, he couldn't deal with Bulkhead's strength Bot-to-Con, and was left sprawled on the lunar surface, his cannon knocked out of reach. In a desperate attempt to buy time, he switched to Longarm mode - forgetting to activate his [[electronic paint job]] - but the pair of Autobots were not impressed, and Bulkhead smashed the cannon.

He was last seen as the Autobots' prisoner, being paraded before a large crowd on Cybertron. {{storylink|Endgame, Part II}}

As Ultra Magnus lay wounded in a medical facility, Shockwave plotted to end the Autobot's vital functions once and for all.
