Though a member of the [[Cybertron Elite Guard]], '''Jazz''' is a bit of an independent thinker. He's reluctant to disobey orders, but he has more of an appreciation for the finer things than his compatriots. This is evidenced in his better choice of vehicle mode disguise, a "sweet ride" drawn from Earth culture. He is also a Robo-Ninja, like Prowl. He seems to be the only one of the Elite Guard willing to learn.

Jazz accompanied [[Supreme Commander]] [[Ultra Magnus (Animated)|Ultra Magnus]] and [[Sentinel Prime (Animated)|Sentinel Prime]] to [[Earth]] to retrieve [[Optimus Prime (Animated)|Optimus Prime]]'s crew and the [[AllSpark (Animated)|AllSpark]]. When Magnus ordered Jazz to activate a [[force field]] around [[Elite Guard ship|their ship]] to prevent [[Human|organic]] contamination, Jazz expressed interest in getting a closer look at them. This caused Sentinel Prime to warn Jazz that the organics would eventually spit acidic goo that would melt through his body armor and destroy vital [[circuitry]]. Jazz was...less willing to meet the organics after that. When [[Sari Sumdac]] managed to sneak aboard their ship, he tried to send her out without provoking her. When she realized that Jazz was afraid of her, she tried to scare him. After [[Bulkhead (Animated)|Bulkhead]] explained that Humans were harmless (and [[Bumblebee (Animated)|Bumblebee]] explained that Sentinel Prime was a jerk) Jazz accompanied the Autobots to the manufacturing plant. '''Ultra Magnus''' is [[Optimus Prime (Animated)|Optimus Prime's]] superior officer. He is also the [[Supreme Commander]] of the Autobots and the leader of the [[Cybertron Elite Guard]]. His earth altmode is an 8-wheeled [[Wikipedia:HEMTT|Heavy Expanded Mobility Tactical Truck]].

He has a hammer the size of a lamp post that shoots lightning so he can deal with things.

Like [[Ratchet (Animated)|Ratchet]], he is a veteran of the [[Great War]].

During the Great War, an Autobot [[Arcee (Animated)|intelligence agent]] was in danger of falling into [[Decepticon]] hands. Ultra Magnus sent Ratchet to recover her so the access codes she held in her databanks couldn't be used to deal a devastating blow to the Autobots. {{storylink|Thrill of the Hunt}}

Long after the end of the war, an Autobot Academy washout named Optimus Prime attempted to contact Magnus to report that 1) he and his maintenance ship crew had discovered the legendary [[AllSpark (Animated)|AllSpark]], and 2) they were now being pursued by Decepticons. Though nearly denied by [[Sentinel Prime (Animated)|Sentinel Prime]], Optimus Prime got patched through to Ultra Magnus to report on the discovery. Magnus still didn't believe the Decepticons would pose much of a threat, but agreed to dispatch some ships to escort Prime's ship, the ''[[Ark (Animated)|Ark]]''. This, of course, would all go out the window once it was discovered that the Decepticons in pursuit were in [[Megatron (Animated)|Megatron]]'s [[Nemesis (Animated)|flagship]], at which point he decided to deal with it.
