:Cheetor is a Maximal in the Beast Era portion of the Generation 1 continuity family.

Cheetor is full of youthful overconfidence. He's also the fastest Maximal on four legs, though, so he gets into way too much trouble. Thankfully, Optimus Primal keeps a steady eye on him. In return, Cheetor has grown to idolize Primal, whom he calls "Big Bot." Optimus Primal knows the young and inexperienced Cheetor needs a good role model, so he doesn't mind too much. And, hey, he's a good kid. Just... keep him away from Dinobot, okay? Impressionable minds, and all.

Speaking of bad influences, Cheetor had a brief crush on the Predacon turncoat Blackarachnia, adding some real tension between him and Silverbolt. He seems over her now.

Beast Wars
:Voice actor: Ian Corlett (English), Wataru Takagi (Japanese), Tata Guarnieri (Brazil)

After the Axalon crash-landed on the mysterious planet, the most youthful crew member of the disabled ship chose a cheetah as his new beast form. Impressed with his own appearance, the young 'bot renamed himself Cheetor.

Far too frequently, Cheetor looked up to Optimus Primal enough to rush out in an all-too eager attempt to prove himself. He seemed to botch as many missions as he carried out successfully; he broke an experimental communicator, rushed into combat, got himself captured by Tarantulas, and set up remote survey posts in the middle of a lightning storm on a bed of unstable energon crystals.

It seems Cheetor also trusted Dinobot more than the rest of his crew. When Optimus Primal was feared dead Chain of Command a vote was held to decide whether Rattrap or Dinobot would lead the Maximals. Naturally, both parties voted for themselves, but as Rhinox read out the votes, he was only surprised by Dinobot's second vote. This would lead us to believe that he did NOT vote for Dinobot, and that it must have been Cheetor.

When the quantum surge from the explosion of the Planet Buster engulfed the planet, Cheetor's exostructure was mutated into a shiny new Transmetal body. Along with a tougher metal hide and built-in weaponry, his beast mode gained the ability to fly via two powerful thrusters in his body. Unfortunately, his first attempt at flying led him on a one-way trip into a bulkhead. As Rattrap later remarked after a disastrous rescue attempt, a few flying lessons wouldn't hurt. Aftermath

While supporting Depth Charge's attack on Megatron's perverse cloning experiments, Cheetor came in contact with the direct energy beam of the transmetal driver, causing a massive explosion that made his fellow Maximals believe he was dead. However, he was seriously damaged and wandered around for megacycles afterwards, not knowing where he was, before he finally stumbled back to base.

Refusing treatment in the CR chamber, he was prone to hallucinations, panic attacks, paranoia, and delirium. He escaped the base and would rest for hours at a time, only to awaken and find himself somewhere foreign, his gears exhausted. Feral Scream, Part 1

In reality, his Transmetal body was in conflict with the alien "Transmetal 2" power infused into it by the transmetal driver. While unconscious, he would undergo a mutation into a feral beast that acted with savagery and aggression. With Optimus Primal's help, he finally gained control of the power and rejoined the rest of the Maximals, who were surprised at the rapid changes to him. Feral Scream, Part 2

This 'new' Cheetor regularly lost his temper, particularly with Rattrap. Still, he was considerably less reckless, and all of his decisions seemed to have a casual air of confidence and a youthful belief in invincibility. At heart, he was still Optimus's little guy.

"Oh, joy," Rattrap remarked. "Cyber-puberty."

Cheetor's surreal dream sequences sometimes contained hints of future events.
(Note: although it picks up after the first season, the Beast Wars Metals manga is not in-continuity with the television series.)

Cheetor retained his youthful, inexperienced personality through-out the Japanese interpretation of Beast Wars. For the Beast Wars Metals manga his character design was retooled for a more visually-blunt interpretation of his personality.

IDW Beast Wars comics
Cheetor appeared outside the Ark (in his Transmetal form) alongside Optimus Primal and Rhinox during Beast Wars: The Gathering.

Beast Machines
Voice actor: Ian Corlett (English), Wataru Takagi (Japanese), Hercules Fernando (Brazil)

At the start of Beast Machines, Cheetor was stripped of his transmetal 2 power and was thrust into a dark and unfriendly world. As a result he relapsed slightly into the dependent bot that he was at the start of the first series, idolizing Optimus Primal and blindly following orders. However, as he slowly got a handle on his new situation the maturity Cheetor had gained during the beast wars seemed to come full circle. He acted calmer, frequently took over leadership in place of Optimus Primal, and overall acted more 'adult'. (The role of 'kid' was taken over by Nightscream.)

After Optimus Primal and Megatron fell into the organic core, starting the Cybertron-wide reformatting, the Oracle spoke to Cheetor's mind, possibly suggesting that Optimus Primal passed his communication abilities to Cheetor as he died.

3H Universe comic
Cheetor appeared in the short lived Transformers: Universe comic book series in his technorganic body.

In the unreleased Transformers: Universe - The Wreckers #4 Cheetor appeared among the Cybertronian troops repelling the Quintesson invasion under the command of Snarl.

Shortly after the reformatting of Cybertron at the end at the end of Beast Machines, Cheetor was amongst those who welcomed back some of the heroes of the Great War (Roulette, Shadowstriker, Sideswipe, Sunstreaker and Trailbreaker) back to Cybertron. However, he was left helpless when they, Silverbolt and Blackarachnia were abducted by Unicron. After this Optimus Primal was resurrected by Primus as a response, and Cheetor once again served as his right hand man.

In 2005, a toy of Cheetor was released in the Transformers: Universe line which depicted Cheetor as an Autobot named "Night Slash Cheetor" (left). Presumably he would have changed to this form if the series could have continued. He did appear in this form in a flashback in the Transformers: Cybertron series, in a final battle with Unicron's forces.

Although 3H Enterprises losing the licence would forestall the conclusion to the Universe storyline, an explanation of sorts would be found in issue 8 of the Transformers Collectors Club magazine Cybertron/Robots in Disguise, where Optimus Prime told the tale of how Unicron's forces were defeated in one last battle by Optimus Primal's forces, including Cheetor, as Unicron disappeared due to the black hole opened in Transformers: Energon.

*Cheetor (Deluxe, 1996)
: Japanese ID number: C-3

: Cheetor transforms into an organic big cat-like creature somewhat resembling a cheetah. As such, he is yellow and covered in spots. In robot mode, he is armed with a rifle made out of his hind quarters and his tail, along with a second 'gut gun' formed out of his stomach. As with most early Beast Wars toys, he features a 'mutant' head that replaced his face.

:The Takara version has a slight mold tweak to keep the beast head pointed forward that has been retained on all versions thereafter, excepting Hasbro's issue of Tigatron.

:This mold was repainted into Shadow Panther and Tigatron.

*Cheetor (Transmetal) (Deluxe, 1998)
: Japanese ID number: C-42

: Transmetal Cheetor is the first mostly robotic Cheetor toy. As with most Transmetal 1 toys, his beast mode is entirely robotic, but his robot mode has organic elements in its design. In beast mode, two rocket boosters can be flipped out of the sides of the cat torso to create a 'flight mode'. In robot mode, his removable tail becomes a spiked whip, but he has no ranged weaponry.

:This mold was retooled into Jaguar X-9, and slightly retooled to make Armada Cheetor.

*Cheetor (Transmetal 2) (Deluxe, 1998)
: Japanese ID number: C-49

: Transmetal 2 Cheetor is the first major departure from the usual Cheetor styling, but maintains the standard 'stand-up-cat' style transformation where the robot mode is essentially the beast mode standing on its hind legs. TM2 Cheetor transforms into a saber-toothed tiger-type big cat, with a large rocket engine grafted into his back. In robot mode, this rocket engine becomes a spring-loaded missile launcher.

: As with all Transmetal 2 toys, he features a spark crystal, a small clear-coloured ball with a vacuum-metalized faction logo inside. Cheetor's spark is placed on his left hind leg.

:This mold was later redecoed into Tripredacus Agent. (Notice the pattern yet?)

*Cheetor (Fox Kids) (Deluxe, 1999)

: In 1999, a Fox Kids repaint of the original Cheetor toy was released. Aside from changing the black spots on his fur to a strange maroon color, at first glance FK Cheetor seemed identical to his original counterpart. However, a closer look shows that both the blue and the gold robot parts were all replaced with a metallic blue trim.

*Cheetor (Supreme, 2000)
: Really huge. Bigger than many real housecats. In robot mode, one of the five tallest Transformers toys ever. It was also a major shelfwarmer and nearly ended the Supreme price point, pushing the Supreme Optimus Prime back into the Robots in Disguise line.

*Cheetor (McDonald's Happy Meal, 2000)

: In 2006, Hasbro redecoed the original Cheetor toy for their Beast Wars 10th Anniversary reissue line. He was cast in a different shade of yellow, and unlike most of the other BWX toys, he was further off-model than his earlier toy (the newer toy lacks the gold paint on its forearms and feet, all of which is present on the show model). His right beast mode shoulder was tampographed with a Maximal sigil. He came packed with Build-a-Figure Transmutate's torso, and a DVD disc containing the episode "Equal Measures."

: In 2007, Takara did the same thing, except much more show accurate. The Quasar Cannon, however, remains a big question mark in terms of show-accuracy. Noone's perfect.
Trivia
* The first Cheetor toy experienced a delayed initial release, coming several weeks after the first wave. This is likely due to a change made to his "tail gun", which on the toy is much different from the version glimpsed in catalogues, commercials, and toy packaging cross-sells. The prototype gun is held via a handle on the topside of the tail rather than underneath the haunches and has a small blue gunbarrell that flips out. The reason why this change was made or whether it was the actual cause of the delay is currently unknown.

* It's interesting to note that Cheetor fired the first shots of the Beast Wars. First he shot at Waspinator, unprovoked, and again at Megatron while Optimus was attempting to negotiate. What a little rascal.

* Aside from Tigatron, Cheetor is the only character in Beast Wars who is definitely in the correct scale to the lifeform he has adopted as a beast-mode. As a result, Cheetor has the odd distinction of being the yardstick by which other BW characters' scale inconsistencies can measured.

* Mainframe's original plan for Transmetal Cheetor was to have his face mature over the course of the season, from a big-eared, wide-eyed, rounded face into one close to the toy. Also, he would have had a "Hero's Heart" which glowed after completing brave or heroic feats, somewhat akin to the classic anime character "Astro Boy". Due to time and financial restrictions, none of these concepts panned out. Thankfully.

*Comics Bom Bom advertisements for Duel Fight Transformers Beast Wars: Beast Warriors' Strongest Decisive Battle feature Cheetor with a completely different (and much happier) head than the version which appeared in the game's instruction manuel. Both are sickeningly cute, though.
Optimus Prime was created, along with Ultra Magnus, by Alpha Trion. The two of them were raised together, and thus, saw each other as brothers. However, this relationship was torn apart after the Cybertron Civil Wars, whereupon the Matrix chose Optimus Prime to command the Autobots in stopping the Predacon leader Megatron from ravaging the universe in his quest for energy. Ultra Magnus left Cybertron that same day, bitter and spiteful of his brother.

Prime soon struck up command on Earth, where he took the form of a fire truck. Operating out of a secret base in Metro City, he and his fellow Autobots were more than ready to face Megatron and his Predacons. The conflict began when Megatron appeared in New York, attempting to kidnap the famous scientist Dr. Onishi. Optimus struck up a friendship with Onishi's son, Koji, and despite not being able to save the boy's father, vowed that he would help rescue him.

In the events that followed, Prime was forced to deal with the Predacons' many energy-grabbing schemes, either personally, or indirectly by way of helping T-Ai coordinate the movement of his troops by way of the Global Space Bridge.

However, Prime soon found another threat, in the form of the Decepticons - namely, one named Scourge. Scourge was a corrupted Autobot protoform, who, in addition to being infused with Megatron's evil, scanned Optimus Prime and a tanker truck at the same time, resulting in his looking like a twisted clone of the Autobot leader. Prime hoped that Scourge and his fellow Decepticons would one day be restored to their true Autobot selves, but after the Decepticons themselves tried to use this to trick him, he decided he should not allow this to cloud his judgement.

Matters escalated when Ultra Magnus appeared on Earth, making his desire to take the Matrix from Optimus Prime known to his "brother." Optimus refused to fight Magnus, and was thus, mercilessly fired upon, until Side Burn, Prowl, and X-Brawn arrived to carry him away. Prime took refuge on a deserted island, but the Decepticons, Megatron, and Magnus both tracked him there. In the midst of the battle, Magnus forcibly activated their ability to combine into Omega Prime, intending to use it to drain Prime of his energy so he could take the Matrix, but Optimus managed to take control and use their combination to stop the Decepticons. This fusion apparently resulted in both Autobots sharing the Matrix's power, which led to Magnus's attitude softening towards his brother.

Eventually, it was revealed that Megatron's true purpose on Earth was to take control of the massive Autobot, Fortress Maximus. These events led to Megatron becoming the more powerful Galvatron, who eventually devastated the Autobot forces. In his final battle with the evil leader, Prime and Magnus combined into Omega Prime to face Galvatron at the Earth's core. They were seemingly no match for him, until Foretress Maximus sent them his power, which energized the Matrix, forming the giant weapon, the Matrix Blade. Galvatron was defeated, and with that, the Autobots' mission on Earth was finished, and Prime resolved to return to Cybertron - but not before "one last look around" with Koji and the rest of his team.
: RID Optimus Prime transforms into a japanese Hino Brandlier fire truck. Harkening back to Generation 1 toys, he features chromed wheels with rubber tires. The forward section of his truck detaches to become his standard robot mode. His 'trailer' can be reconfigured into a sort of battle station. The station can then be disassembled and attached around the robot to form his Super Mode. He can combine with Ultra Magnus to form Omega Prime.
Trivia
* For this incarnation of Optimus, voice actor Neil Kaplan very specifically impersonated the voice of the original Optimus Prime, Peter Cullen.

* Cybertron "Multi-Pack" Optimus Prime's tech spec bio seems to indicate he's Unicron Trilogy Optimus Prime. However, his (and Magnus') deco was later used in the Fun Publications Cybertron fan club magazine comic as Robots in Disguise Optimus Prime having traveled to the Unicron Trilogy universe.

* Persistent net rumors abound about early or suplimental Japanese material establishing Optimus and his Auobots being part of a "Dimensional Patrol" that follows the Predacons either back in time or from another universe. This is not supported in-show and no solid evidence supporting it has ever surfaced elsewhere.... except in the 3H supplemental materials, which established the "Dimensional Patrol" as a post-cartoon organization.
:Optimus Primal is a Maximal and an Autobot in the Beast Era portion of the Generation 1 continuity family.

Young and untested, Optimus Primal was a mere captain of an exploration ship when he and his crew were diverted off-course to pursue a stolen Predacon ship. The rest, they say, is (literally) history.

Though he does have a penchant for stuffy speeches, Optimus Primal is much more down-to-earth than his legendary namesake. He is committed to the Maximal codes of honor and moral judgment, but he does view them with some irreverence, and is not above finding loopholes or administering unorthodox solutions if necessary. ("Sometimes, crazy works," he says.) He is eternally loyal to his friends and respectful to his enemies. He is brave and selfless in battle. However, he is so committed to helping others that he can withdraw into a deep depression when he feels he has let them down. This is the only time he is self-absorbed.

Optimus Primal is extraordinary for not only being able to distinguish himself despite living in the shadow of Optimus Prime, but for perhaps even surpassing him. It is possible Optimus Primal is the greatest Cybertronian hero who has ever lived.
Optimus Primal VS Megatron pack-in comic
Under the eerie shadows of a full moon Optimus Primal, a gigantic bat, Cheetor, a swift-stalking cheetah, and Razorbeast, a fearsome wild boar, hunt purposely through the depths of a jungle. Soon Optimus detects the thermal emissions and fusion activity from a building, which mean they've found their target. His motion sensors register what appears to be a harmless Earth creature below.

Before Optimus realizes his mistake the alligator lashes out with as smashing swipe of its tail, knocking Optimus into the swampy waters. The beast transformers and Megatron towers above him. The building ahead is the Predacon's genetics lab and he'll never let Optimus reach the secrets inside. He orders his troops to attack and everyone transforms to robot mode. The gigantic insects Tarrantulas and Waspinator engage Razorbeast and Cheetor respectively while Optimus and Megatron face off.

Optimus brags that the Maximal "bio-genetic morphing process has allowed us to create the perfect fusion of organic musculature and Transformers technology!" Megatron responds that his side did all that too, so nan-neh, but used the DNA of Earth's most vicious predators. When Optimus notes that the Maximals seem to be getting the upper hand, Megatron immediately detonates the lab and escapes, vowing to return with new forms and new plans when the Maximals least expect it. The Beast Wars have just begun!

(Note: This comic, along with the techspec bios of the first wave of Beast Wars toys, predate the development of the Beast Wars cartoon and its backstory. Instead they seem to present the characters as a direct continuation of the previous Autobot/Decepticon conflict, with Optimus Primal actually being a new form of Optimus Prime and Megatron being his Generation 1 counterpart, and their battles taking place on present day, human-inhabited Earth, rather than in the distant past. Once the cartoon launched, the toyline adjusted itself to match that continuity instead.)

Optimus Primal was the captain of the exploration ship Axalon when his crew got word that the Predacon criminal Megatron had stolen the Golden Disk and a ship with transwarp capabilities. Primal's was the closest vessel that also possessed a transwarp drive, so the Axalon was sent to engage them. Primal followed the Predacons through a transwarp portal and appeared above a mysterious planet, but both ships were damaged in the ensuing space battle, and before both ships crashed into the planet's surface below, Primal ordered that the stasis pods carrying the rest of his crew to be ejected into orbit.

The planet was rich with energon -- so much so that prolonged exposure would short out their bodies, so the Maximals and Predacons were forced to take organic forms from the local creatures. Primal took the form of a silverback gorilla. Estranged from his comrades, the Predacon Dinobot challenged Primal to a duel soon after their arrival, seeking command of the Maximals so he could, in turn, defeat Megatron. Primal won both the duel and Dinobot's respect, and Dinobot joined their ranks.

Both sides entrenched themselves on their new world and the "Beast Wars" began. Strange unnatural sites and artifacts were discovered, leading Primal and the others to believe that aliens had seeded the primitive planet with experiments and traps. One such trap, the Standing Stones, ensnared Primal's body for a short time, during which the Maximals scrambled to ascertain their chain of command. In his absence, the Maximals squabbled and fought over leadership, until finally his core consciousness was able to speak to them and name Rattrap as his replacement. Primal's body was subsequently retrieved from the Standing Stones, and he resumed command.

When Inferno discovered evidence of the Vok's imminent arrival, Megatron called a truce, which Primal reluctantly agreed to. While investigating a newly-created Vok installation, Primal was tortured and captured by the aliens, who spoke to him (in the form of Unicron) and told him of their plans to 'sterilize' the planet. Barely escaping the Vok base, Primal returned to the Axalon to find it overrun by Tarantulas and Blackarachnia, who had turned a space stasis pod into an escape ship, in order to flee the doomed planet. As the planet's second moon was converted into a Planet Buster, Primal took the ship to do battle with the superweapon, against the objections of his crew. Primal planned to detonate the ship's transwarp cell when in range of the weapon, after ejecting to safety. The plan worked - with the exception of the 'ejecting' part. Megatron remotely seized control of the vessel, overriding Primal's ejection commands. The Predacon commander taunted Primal as he futilely beat his fists against the pod, until the detonation obliterated the pod, the Planet Buster, and Primal, reducing them all to so much space junk.

Primal's Spark journeyed to the Matrix, where it was soon recovered by Rhinox and placed in a blank protoform, which became his new Transmetal body. Primal now transformed into a mechanical gorilla with a gorilla-on-a-hoverboard third mode.

Later on, Primal was captured and imprisoned in yet another Vok base, this one controlled by his archnemesis Megatron. During a daring rescue attempt by the Maximals and Tarantulas, Optimus engaged in a furious battle with Megatron, destroying both the Metal Hunter and the alien disc. The Maximals then suffered a number of setbacks, including the death of Dinobot, the destruction of Transmutate, and Megatron's acquisition of the deadly Rampage. However, the Maximals were soon greeted with good news; the realization that the transwarp wavefront created by the destruction of the Planet Buster would lead Cybertron to them, in order to mount a rescue operation. Help arrived soon enough, but in the unexpected form of the rebuilt Ravage, who had come to arrest Megatron for his crimes against the Pax Cybertronia. In the midst of this, Primal was forced to chastize new recruit Silverbolt for his dangerous relationship with Blackarachnia. Primal assisted Ravage in arresting Megatron, but was soon betrayed by the ex-Decepticon, allowing Megatron to escape and reach the Ark, in an attempt to assassinate Optimus Prime.

Primal was forced to take the great Autobot's Spark inside himself to keep it protected. This caused his body to grow larger and stronger, gaining ground and air vehicle modes along with his previous gorilla form. This new "Optimal Optimus" successfully protected Prime's spark until it could be returned to his repaired body, saving history and the future from destruction.

With the location of the Ark revealed, and Megatron now desperate to end the war at any cost, Primal was forced to move his Maximals into the volcano where the Ark's hull lay. This new, defensive war was much more difficult to fight, and disadvantaged the Maximals severely. With the loss of their defense system, Sentinel, the awkward and violent maturation of Cheetor, proto-humans to guard, and the introduction of the previously treacherous and morally ambiguous Blackarachnia into their ranks, Optimus Primal had more than his share of problems to deal with.

The tide was finally turned when the Vok resurrected and combined Airazor and Tigatron into the mighty Tigerhawk, who obliterated the Predacon base. In the end, Primal's forces defeated Megatron's, and with the captured Predacon leader strapped to the roof of a borrowed Autobot shuttle, the Beast Warriors at last headed home.

Beast Machines
:Voice actor: Gary Chalk (US), Takehito Koyasu (Japan)

Optimus Primal suddenly finds himself alone on Cybertron, back in his original organic gorilla body, unfamiliar with how he arrived there, and pursued by an army of tank drones. A supernatural force lead him to Rattrap, Cheetor, and Blackarachnia, and though all four appeared to be succumbing to the effects of a deadly virus that keept them from transforming into their robot modes, he was able to lead them to the legendary Oracle. The Oracle reformated them into new technorganic forms that were immune to the virus.

Eventually, Primal and his allies learned that Megatron broke free durring their Transwarp flight home and so arrived on Cybertron before them. Megatron conquered the planet and laid a trap for Primal's crew and any other Transformers returning to Cybertron.

During the events that followed, Optimus Primal came to be much more in touch with his spiritual side than he ever was before, due to an almost mystical connection to the Oracle. This granted him visions and intuitions, guiding him to complete its designs. Though he had some trouble at first comprehending just what the Oracle wanted and how to go about it, he was, in the end, successful. Optimus Primal sacrificed his life, plunging with Megatron into the heart of Cybertron and innitiating the reformating that returned the deactivated population to life and gave birth to the new technorganic Cybertron.

Robots in Disguise
When a spirit guide was needed to counsel the Optimus Prime of a past, alternate reality, Optimus Primal rose to the task.
Universe
:Voice actor: Garry Chalk (US, script reading)
His sacrifice to end Megatron's evil and restore Cybertron was not the final battle for Optimus Primal. When the machinations of Unicron led to a new conflict, with Transformers abducted from across the multiverse forced to fight for Unicron's benefit, Vector Sigma and Alpha Trion chose Optimus Primal to lead the Children of Primus against this threat. Primal was returned to life, and chose his old comrades Depth Charge and Rhinox to return as well and aid him. (Returning Primal to life, however, also resulted in the resurrection of his old foe Megatron.)
Beast Wars II
Movie
Optimus Primal was summoned across time by Lio Junior to help Leo Prime destroy Majin Zarak. Optimus Primal became Burning Convoy by joining the power of his matrix with Leo Prime's.

After Majin Zarak's destruction, Optimus Primal returned to ancient Earth.

(Note: The events of the Beast Wars II movie, especially Optimus Primal having an Energon Matrix, did not occur in American continuity. It's not clear when during the Beast Wars Optimus Primal was taken.)

Manga
When Leo Prime goes nuts and grows to giant proportions, wreaking havok across the landscape, Optimus Primal is summoned across time by the power of the Matrix to heal him.

Robot Masters
:Voice actor: Yuto Kazama (Japan)

Optimus Primal chased Megatron in yet another time warp into the Generation 1 era. There, he met and joined forces with the Optimus Prime. Together, their special attack was a massive energon tornado called Double Convoy Tornado. The Double Convoy Tornado would come to be countered by Beast Megatron's and Rebirth Megatron's Double Megatron Tornado, but emerge victorious with the addition of Leo Prime's Lio Typhoon Arrow, creating Triple Convoy Tornado Link attack.

He also had a temporary virus-induced Black Body form.

(Note: Since both were known as simply "Convoy" in their respective Japanese series, Optimus Prime was designated "G1 Convoy" while Optimus Primal was designated "Beast Convoy".)

Beast Wars Metals manga continuity
Optimus Primal, who was killed while destroying the Vok Planet Buster, is resurrected as a sparkless monster using a voodoo ceremony. Rhinox rescues Primal's spark from Transwarp Space and restores him to his body.

Later, he eats Optimus Prime's spark.

The Metals Manga takes Primal's manic action hero side to the next level. He once put a bomb in his mouth and tricked the cannibalistic Rampage into eating his head. "I have a spare," he says casually, transforming to beast mode.

Toys
Beast Wars
* Optimus Primal vs Megatron (Basic versus two-pack, 1996)
: Japanese ID number: C-6

:The first Optimus Primal was a Basic size class blue bat which could autotransform into a robot by pulling the tail. Two swords were removeable from under its wings for use as weaponry in robot mode. It was packaged along with an alligator version of Megatron and a Beast Wars mini-comic.

:Whether this toy can be considered the Optimus Primal character is a matter of debate. Released before the animated series began, which established Optimus Primal as a separate entity from Optimus Prime, the accompanying profiles and mini-comic seem to assume that the Beast Wars are a progression of the same characters from the Autobot/Decepticon war. Whether the animated series' retcon affected this set of toys is probably a matter of personal preference.

:This mold was also used to make Onyx Primal.

* Optimus Primal (Ultra, 1996/1997/1998)
: Japanese ID number: C-1

: The second Optimus Primal toy was an ape in the Ultra size class. Though the transformation from primate to humanoid was a relatively simplistic transformation, the toy compensated with more than a fair share of weaponry and action features. A compartment on his right forearm opened to reveal a skull-shaped mace he could hold in its fist. His left forearm could open into a double-barrelled missile launcher. On his back were two spring-loaded missile launchers which auto-flipped over each shoulder. By pulling a lever in the center of its back, both arms would either spin at the bicep or swing, depending on the placement of notch-buttons located on either bicep. And finally, like many first-year Beast Wars toys, a battle mask/"mutant head" could be deployed over its robot head.

: Takara released the toy as part of their Beast Wars line in July of 1997, nearly identical to the Hasbro version. In January of 1998, the re-did many of the toys with a few alterations; for Optimus, they changed the black to dark gray and the blue to metallic blue. The missiles for the Takara version are also thinner and simpler than the original Hasbro version, and would be used in all subsequent releases of the mold.

:This mold was redecoed into Universe Optimus Primal, and retooled into Beast Wars Reborn/Beast Wars Tenth Anniversary versus pack Optimus Primal. Takara also created multiple special variants, including all-gold (from Tele-V Magazine, only ten awarded), red and gray (Tele-V again, but only one awarded), blue-fur (a Comics Bom Bom design-contest prize, only five awarded), and colorless-clear with silver paint details (Toys 'R' Us retail exclusive).

*Convobat vs Megaligator
: Japanese ID number: S-1
:This figure is a red redeco of Primal's first bat form, and was sold with a purple redeco of Gator Megatron.

*Orcanoch (Microverse, 1997)
: Part of the Microverse toyline, this orca transforms into a Maximal base. It came with tiny, non-transforming versions of Optimus Primal and Tarantulas.

* Optimus Primal (Mega Transmetal, 1998)
: Japanese ID number: C-40

: Transmetal Optimus Primal is a mechanical gorilla that transforms into a partially organic robot. Like all Transmetals, it featured chromed plastic and a third vehicle-inspired mode -- in Primal's case, its gorilla mode could transform into a gorilla on a hoverboard. Two maces stored on his back, which could double as missiles for its hip-holstered blaster.

: Takara's version of the toy exchanged the brown plastic for translucent maroon, and was also available in a set with Transmetal Megatron.

: This mold was used to make Apelinq.

* Optimal Optimus (Super Transmetal, 1998)
: Japanese ID number: C-47

: Transmetal Optimal Optimus was the first toy in the Super size class, featuring electronics and four transformations -- robot, ape, jet, and armored transport. When a back section of the cannon module was pulled, its eyes and shoulder-mounted missile launchers lit up and fired. It came with four missiles, two of which stored on its legs. Its forearms featured blast-away armor plates that could also be pegged to its upper arms.

:Optimal Optimus's techspecs states that he has Cybertronian "air guardian" technology and twin scramjet modules. Jetfire's function was Air Guardian, and his techspecs said he had these same scramjet modules.

: This mold was used to make Primal Prime.
Beast Machines
* Optimus Primal (Deluxe, 2000)
: The first Beast Machines Optimus Primal was a dark bronze and translucent blue technorganic gorilla that transformed into a technorganic robot. Its arm was springloaded to throw the shuriken that stored in its shoulder. Like all Beast Machines toys, it had a hidden "spark crystal" that displayed his faction allegiance.
* Blast Punch Optimus Primal (Mega, 2001)
Beast Wars 10th Anniversary
* Optimus Primal (2006)

: Beast Wars 10th Anniversary (BWX) Optimus Primal is a new toy design based loosely on his original ultra ape action figure. It comes with a hoverboard that fires a missile when a Cyber Planet Key is inserted. The board also features a spring-loaded extending "assault blade" (or "ass lt blade" as the directions call it). Though it is not intended to be removed, the blade can be popped off and held in Primal's hand thanks to his posable thumbs.

: He is also packaged with a mini-comic-sized reprinting of IDW Publishing's The Gathering #1, a small Axalon ship figurine, and a Jungle Planet style Cyber Planet Key without a Cyber Key Code stamped on it.

:This mold was redecoed and released as Cybertron Optimus Prime. It's worth noting that the scuplt for both BW10 leader toys were intentionally designed to blend in with the Jungle Planet aesthetic, "in case" they didn't get a Beast Wars Anniversary release (according to Aaron Archer's statements at 2005).

* Optimus Primal vs Megatron (Toys "R" Us, 2006)
:Identical to the Beast Wars Reborn set as detailed below, but in new packaging with a DVD of the Beast Wars episode "Possession."

Beast Wars Reborn
* Convoy vs Megatron (2006)
: Japanese ID number: BWR-01

: This release is a retool of the original 1996 Ultra toy, with new heads and robot chest sculpted to match the television series' portrayal. The color scheme was also altered to be show-accurate, changing the black to dark gray, much of the light gray to medium gray with hints of bronze, primary red to crimson, and blue to a more dull steel blue. This figure came packaged with a similarly-remolded Megatron and a Golden Disk CD-ROM that contains control art for a number of Beast Wars toys.

Titanium Series
* Optimus Primal (3" Robot Master figurine)
Features Primal in his Beast Wars Season 1 appearance, with swords drawn in an action pose.

* Optimal Optimus (6" Transformable figure)

For undetirmined reasons, this incarnation of Optimal Optimus does not include the Beast Mode. Some fans have identified it more as a representative of Megatron from the final episodes of Beast Machines than as Optimus Primal.

Timelines
Trivia
* Primal's gorilla mode, paired against Megatron's t-rex mode, was inspired by the showdown in King Kong. <!--Needs citation! Argh, where did we recently confirm this...? -->
* According to a guide book published in conjunction with the Beast Wars II theatrical film, Optimus Primal's original body had the following technical specifications. The veracity of these numbers in relation to anything actually featuring Primal, of course, is questionable.

:Height: 2.8m (9.19 feet).
:Weight: 2 tons.
:Running Speed: 60km (37.28 mph, beast mode), 50km (31.07 mph, robot mode).
:Airspeed: Mach 7.
:Maximum Power Output: 1,000,000 horsepower.

Silverbolt

:Silverbolt is a Maximal in the Beast Era portion of the Generation 1 continuity family.

"Pure, strong, and fast," Silverbolts sense of right and wrong is so overdeveloped his fellow Maximals wonder if his programming has a glitch. He speaks in platitudes that speak to chivalry, justice, and cheesy heroic ideals, and he has been known to give speeches that make even Optimus Primal roll his optics. His conviction is both his strength and his weakness. He sees the world in black and white, and not just because his beast mode is partly canine.

The only gray area for Silverbolt is Blackarachnia. His fierce love for the "evil" Predacon causes him to question his preconceived notions of right and wrong. He was very proud of his ability to convert Blackarachnia to the Maximals, and, though most of the them are skeptical, he has nothing but faith in her.

Fiction
Beast Wars
:Voice Actor: Scott McNeil (US), Mitsuo Iwata (Japan)

The explosion caused by the Vok Planet Buster sent all stasis pods crashing to Earth. Some pods' scanners were fired, and the result was the Fuzors, one of whom was Silverbolt.

Megatron recruited Silverbolt, but he felt so out of place being treacherous and cruel that he soon joined the Maximals. Sometime afterward, he battled Blackarachnia when Tarantulas was building his secret base. She was somewhat surprised by his complete refusal to strike her simply because she was a female.

Soon, Silverbolt found himself reluctantly sneaking off to aide Blackarachnia in constructing a small airship out of the fallen Stasis Pod. Eventually, Megatron's scheme threatened to eradicate Blackarachnia, and the two came out about their affair to the Maximals. Blackarachnia defected to their side soon after.

Most of the time thereafter, Silverbolt stayed by Blackarachnia's side, more than happy that the subterfuge was over. He was extremely pleased when Blackarachnia was converted fully into a Maximal (and a Transmetal 2, as well).

Beast Machines
:Voice Actor: Scott McNeil (US), Mitsuo Iwata (Japan)

When the Maximals found themselves back on Cybertron running for their lives from armies of Vehicon drones, their memories of their past had been tampered with. Even Blacharachnia could not remember Silverbolt fully until she hacked into the memory backup on their ship.

Blackarachnia began to suspect that Silverbolt's spark may be inside one of the Vehicon Generals. At first, she erroneously thought it was inside Thrust, but after a mishap with some technorganic goop, Silverbolt's spark was proven to be inside Jetstorm. For a precious few moments, Silverbolt's consciousness was completely awoken within Jetstorm's body, reverting to his old personality, until the goop was absorbed completely and Jetstorm's shell program reasserted itself.

Obsessed with bringing Silverbolt back, she hounded Jetstorm, demanding he remember their shared love and return to the Maximals. Needless to say, Jetstorm was annoyed by this. But when Rattrap created a gizmo that would help them transfer the stolen Transformer sparks into new bodies, Blackarachnia stole it. Leading Jetstorm into the planet's organic core, she attached the gizmo to his back and trapped the Vehicon in a pool of the technorganic goop with her webs. After much screaming, reformatting, and brilliant light, Silverbolt was reborn. (For some reason that was never explained, he was now solely an eagle, and not a Fuzor of any sort.)

Counter to Blackarachnia's expectations, Silverbolt was not pleased. Gone was the Maximal who exemplified honor and chivalry, replaced with only a desire for retribution and vengeance. "I was a fool back then," he frowns, "I believed in things." Distraught, Blackarachnia managed to convince him to come along with her to help rescue Optimus Primal and Cheetor from inside Megatron's Big Floating Head, but Silverbolt did not accompany her for their friends -- he was not interested in them. He went to confront Megatron.

Megatron, seeing that his General had been reformatted into a Maximal, tried to seduce Silverbolt back to his side. Silverbolt was told he was a creature of honor who fought for just causes, and that Megatron gave Silverbolt not only a just cause (the technological purity of Cybertron), but also the power and strength to fight for that cause. Blackarachnia countered at every point, pleading with Silverbolt to remember their love and friendship. Silverbolt was not even paying attention to her, and finally answers Megatron bitterly: "You gave me nothing." Silverbolt, with nearly insane fury, let loose a volley of feather bombs, disrupting Megatron from within. Cheetor and Primal were rescued, and Silverbolt was dragged away from the battle.

Slightly calmed, Silverbolt was later approached by Blackarachnia. He confided in her the real reason for his anger. It was not what Megatron had done to him, but that he was freed from his code of honor and he enjoyed the experience. He did not trust himself any longer. This did not deter Blackarachnia. She believed, no matter what, that Silverbolt had goodness in his heart.

Among the fans, this transition for Silverbolt was distressing. Instead of the phrases of chivalry and honor, combined with his constant cheesy love-related sayings to Blackarachnia, Silverbolt was now a brittle, tormented character, almost a complete stand-in for Depth Charge.

Universe
One year after Cybertron's Great Reformatting, five great Autobot heroes (Sideswipe, Sunstreaker, Trailbreaker, Shadow Striker, and Roulette) returned home to a peaceful planet. Amidst a media blitz and celebration, Silverbolt, Blackarachnia, Cheetor, and Rattrap were among the Maximals to greet them.

However, what appeared to be celebratory fireworks struck Silverbolt and Blackarachnia and also the five Autobots. They were transported to the firey Pit deep within Unicron, where all but Trailbreaker were rebuilt painfully into new bodies. Silverbolt was piece-by-piece reassembled into a version of his original Fuzor form.

Seeing an arena up ahead, the seven moved towards it, only to be attacked by a swarm of shape-shifting lava-like creatures. Silverbolt and the others were overwhelmed and taken into the arena (or, the Cauldron), where they were caged along with a multitude of Transformers kidnapped from across the multiverse.

During this time Blacharachnia was corrupted by Unicron to become one of his warriors. Silverbolt vowed to bring her back to the light again as she has done for him.

When the whole place went to pot after the formation of the Unicron Singularity, Sliverbolt escaped with the rest of the prisoners, taking Blacharachnia with him. Presumably they returned to their own time and universe.
Beast Wars
*Silverbolt (Deluxe Fuzor, 1998)
: Japanese ID number: C-41

: Part of the first wave of Fuzors, Silverbolt transforms into a wolf with the wings, fore-legs and tail of an eagle. In either mode, pulling his tail activates a spring-loaded "wing flap" gimmick. Moving the wings far enough forward triggers their built-in spring-loaded missile launchers. Silverbolt's missiles are also designed to be held in his hands like clubs.

: For his Japanese release as part of Beast Wars Metals, Silverbolt's silver was made much much brighter.

: This mold was used to make 1999's Windrazor.

Beast Machines
*Silverbolt (Basic, 2000/2005)
: Japanese ID number: BR-10

: Beast Machines Silverbolt now transforms into kind of a condor, dropping his wolf-bits. His wings have a snap-together feature, and the entire wing assembly detaches to form a hand-held shield-blade for robot mode.

: In 2005, the toy was redecoed for the Takara Beast Wars Returns series in a much more show-like purple color scheme. He was only available at Toys "R" Us stores.

Universe
*Silverbolt (Deluxe, 2003)

: A purple redeco of the original Fuzor toy, Silverbolt once agan transforms into a wolf/eagle fusion.

Trivia
* Silverbolt's line in Beast Wars ("I think my name is... Silverbolt") mimics the original Silverbolt's first line.

* Many fans have taken to giving the Beast Machines Silverbolt toy a "griffon" alt-mode rather than the official "condor" mode.

* According to various Hasbro representatives, Universe Silverbolt's colors (and those of pretty much the entire first wave of Universe product) were done by Hasbro employess from outside the Transformers team.

:Savage/Noble is a Maximal from the Beast Machines portion of the Generation 1 continuity family. He is also known as Beast Changer.

Savage/Noble is one of the ONLY purely-organic Transformers. His "robot" form resembles a werewolf (referred to as Noble), and his alt-mode is a dragon-creature (known as Savage). He is close friends with Nightscream.
:Voice actor: David Kaye (US), Yūichi Nagashima (Japan)

His origins are unclear. However, it is notable that his two forms are a dragon and a wolf. Savage/Noble did not appear until after Megatron made himself purely mechanical, due to Optimus's use of the Plasma Energy Chamber, and after Silverbolt reappeared as an eagle. Thus, it seems possible that Savage/Noble is somehow Megatron's beast-mode fused with Silverbolt's wolf-form; however the series was canceled before Savage/Noble's origins could be explored. Savage/Noble was quickly accepted into the Maximal fold, and was immediately befriended by Nightscream. After the Maximals led him to Megatron's Citadel, Megs made his move, and downloaded his spark into a Giant Warship (kind of shaped like his own head), leaving Savage/Noble a pure beast with an instinctual mind. Noble hung around, helping where he could, before eventually being killed by Megatron after saving the Maximals.
*Beast Changer (2001)
The Beast Changer toy was originally released in the West in 2001 as part of the Beast Machines toyline. In 2005, the mold was later recolored to appear somewhat more show-accurate and released in Japan as part of the Beast Wars Returns toyline, exclusive to Toys R' Us.
