the Robots in Disguise computer system
:T-AI is an Autobot computer from the Robots in Disguise continuity family.

T-AI (pronounced "tie", short for Tactical Artificial Intelligence) is the Autobots' main computer system. She keeps tabs on events across Earth, coordinates Autobot forces across the globe, maintains the elaborate Global Space Bridge network, and generally keeps things running smoothly at the base... or as smoothly as possible considering the variety of odd personalities that make up the Autobot ranks. She is an incredibly advanced computer that displays distinct emotions, self-awareness, a sense of humor, and—perhaps most notably—the ability to lose her patience. She is quick to berate verbally any Autobot found slacking off or doing something dumb.

T-AI manifests herself with a holographic avatar, taking the form of a young human girl in a maroon uniform resembling Otpimus Prime's Fire Engine form. It's possible she chose this form to better acclimate the Autobots to dealing with humans, as well as to help their human ally Koji better deal with being surrounded by giant alien robots.

She is reportedly the "daughter" of Teletraan I.

T-AI's first major action on Earth was to initiate Battle Protocol and send the Autobot Brothers to New York City. Battle Protocol! A short time later, Optimus Prime brought Koji Onishi to visit the base—Koji's father had been kidnapped by Megatron. On being introduced to T-AI, Koji attempted to shake hands with her and fell through the holographic projection. The boy stuck around with T-AI to monitor the currently-developing situation—the Predacons were trying to steal an explosive device from a car. An Explosive Situation

T-AI would continue to monitor odd goings-on, such as a series of suspicious train wrecks which turned out to have been caused by the Predacons. Bullet Train to the Rescue The only Autobot she tended to have problems with was Side Burn, a notorious slacker who would often be out chasing red sports cars rather than go to the assignments given to him. On one occasion Side Burn turned out to be actually doing something useful—exploring some ruins with Koji. As a result of this adventure, a computer microchip owned by Doctor Onishi was discovered, and T-AI set about extracting information from it. The Secret of the Ruins

It wasn't unusual for Side Burn to cut off contact altogether, which is probably why T-AI didn't immediately panic when he was captured by the Predacons. Once Prowl and X-Brawn alerted her to the situation, T-AI dispatched the Spy Changers to assist in rescuing both Side Burn and Optimus. Sideburn's Obsession On another occasion one of the Spy Changers, Mirage appeared to have left the Autobot ranks but in reality had pretended to defect and had located Megatron's "Mega-Laser Cannon". T-AI was able to extend the Global Space Bridge, allowing the Spy Changers to use the sphere formation to destroy the laser. Mirage's Betrayal

When new Autobot arrival Skid-Z went missing, T-AI was able to download his scanner log and determine that, as suspected, the Autobot had become contaminated with Auggie Cahnay's psychotropic energy, giving him the urge to compete in races. She warned the other Autobots that they needed to get Skid-Z back to headquarters for decontamination or he would burn out his circuits. Skid Z's Choice Tow-Line's introduction didn't go much better. Shortly after his arrival, T-AI lost contact with Side Burn, X-Brawn and Rapid Run—Tow-Line had gone renegade and abducted the trio. She coordinated with Optimus and Prowl to track down the rogue Autobot. Tow-Line Goes Haywire

Puzzled by the Predacons' interest in statues, T-AI dispatched the Autobot Brothers to the Cave of the Dragon, which Koji had a hunch was involved. There Side Burn encountered a giant moving statue, which T-AI was able to reveal was a special effect created by a film crew working there. As it turned out the cave had another secret, the first of seven Cybertronian artefacts called O-Parts. The Ultimate Robot Warrior Shortly after the discovery, T-AI called all of the Autobots back to base to review footage of their past missions and attempt to work out where the Predacon base was hidden. Hope for the Future

T-AI was able to unlock more information from Dr Onishi's microchip, pointing the Autobots to Castle Peak, where they discovered the wreck of an Autobot spacecraft. After Megatron stole the six protoforms from inside it, T-AI was able to track him to McKinley Army Base and alert Optimus, though ultimately Megatron was able to reformat the protoforms into Decepticons. The Decepticons

After the destruction of a dam by the Decepticons, T-AI sent the Autobot Brothers to patrol Sherman Dam and soon lost contact with them. Once Optimus arrived at the dam, T-AI alerted him to the fact that the Decepticons had mined it with pulsar bombs. Fortunately disaster was averted once again with the help of Team Bullet Train. Commandos

T-AI continued to monitor Predacon activity, dispatching Optimus and the Spy Changers to Montrose Island where the Predacons were causing trouble. Volcano After a shuttle was launched by the humans, she attempted to access the signal from it and, to her puzzlement, received images of X-Brawn from the data stream. It wasn't long before the space agency revealed that the shuttle which was launched had been a fake—the Decepticon Movor. As the Decepticons were tracking Side Burn, T-AI contacted him and X-Brawn was able to send his brother to a location where the Decepticons could be ambushed. Attack from Outer Space

Side Burn, of course, continued to cause trouble and T-AI caught him using the computer to do online fish tests. Opining that it didn't make sense, as Side Burn was a sports car, not a fish, she nagged him about going out on patrol. Eventually he did, but he and the other two brothers ended up going to the wrong locations anyway. The Fish Test

When Build Team requested that they be allowed to go on a mission, they insisted that T-AI use the member select program just to make it all official. And then bickered amongst themselves until T-AI told them to knock it off and get moving. Wedge's Short Fuse Some time later, strange glitches began occurring in the Global Space Bridge, with Autobots failing to arrive at the destinations T-AI had programmed, and she soon discovered that someone had been tampering with the computer link. Build Team was dispatched to fix the problem, and T-AI also detected that Megatron was attacking the north energy research facility, so the next destination was set. Landfill (episode)

When the Predacons attacked the new CGA Tower and took the people inside hostage, Sky-Byte demanded something from Optimus. Something he wasn't terribly clear on. T-AI suggested Sky-Byte might mean the O-Parts, which probably wasn't the most clever thing considering he didn't seem to know about them. Sky-Byte Saves the Day

After an attempted energy theft, the Decepticons began attacking construction sites and fleeing every time T-AI sent the Autobots to stop them. Eventually the Build Team found out, and T-AI detected Landfill fighting Ruination. She sent the Autobot Brothers to help, but Build Team had sabotaged the Global Space Bridge, and they ended up in the middle of nowhere. A Test of Metal

T-AI intercepted a transmission indicating that Sky-Byte was searching for O-Parts. She and Optimus suspected it was a trap, so they sent the Autobot Brothers in. Ultra Magnus (episode) With Optimus under attack from Decepticons on an island, T-AI monitored the situation with Koji, and was amazed when Optimus merged with the newly arrived Autobot Ultra Magnus into Omega Prime. She reported reading a massive amount of energy. Ultra Magnus: Forced Fusion!

While out looking for Ultra Magnus, the Autobot Brothers failed to check in and T-AI was unable to contact them. She sent Team Bullet Train to look for the brothers and coordinated the search from base. The Two Faces of Ultra Magnus Puzzling over the way the three Autobot Brothers managed to power up during the fight against the Decepticons, T-AI theorised that the power came from the Matrix, somehow channelled through Ultra Magnus. She contacted Side Burn and Prowl to search for Magnus, and sent X-Brawn in as backup when the two brothers found themselves fighting the Decepticons. Power to Burn!

T-AI was able to extract more information from Doctor Onishi's microchip, pointing to a dig which the doctor was working on before he was kidnapped. The Build Team were dispatched, and when the Decepticons were sighted in the area, T-AI sent the Spy Changers, Autobot Brothers and Team Bullet Train for protection. Fortress Maximus (episode) She reassured Koji that his father must still be alive as the Predacons were still extracting information from him. She was proved right a few hours later when Sky-Byte inadvertently set Doctor Onishi free. Koji Gets His Wish

With the release of Doctor Onishi, T-AI worked with him to create a detector to locate the rest of the O-Parts. The Autobot Brothers and Build Team managed to locate and retrieve the five remaining O-Parts and, back at base, T-AI wondered whether finding them was a blessing or a curse. A Friendly Contest T-AI was able to detect a data stream coming from the activated O-Parts and, despite Optimus' concerns, merged with them to get more information. Although she was able to find out the location of the Orb of Sigma, she became trapped in the globe created by the O-Parts.

Optimus and the brothers took the O-Parts globe to the Sahara Desert where, in a pyramid beneath the desert sands, they found the Orb of Sigma. The O-Parts globe merged with it, cutting off their communication with T-AI completely. The Autobots managed to keep the Orb away from the Decepticons and return it to Autobot base, where T-AI was successfully extracted. She reported that she had gained from the Orb the knowledge of where to find Cerebros, the key to Fortress Maximus. Peril from the Past

The Autobot Brothers and Build Team attempted to retrieve Cerebros, but the 'bot was snatched from their grasp by the Decepticons. T-AI was very annoyed and chewed out X-Brawn over it. She sent the Autobot Brothers to guard Fortress Maximus' hiding place, getting Tow-Line to tow Side Burn there to prevent him from being "distracted". The Decepticons managed to use Cerebros to activate Maximus and T-AI monitored the battle from base with Koji. The young boy was subsequently able to help by commanding the giant robot to stop. Maximus Emerges

T-AI and Doctor Onishi worked on the puzzle of why Maximus obeyed Koji's command, but were unable to draw a firm conclusion. When Scourge again attempted to control Maximus out in the desert, Doctor Onishi realised that Maximus would only control humans, and T-AI had Team Bullet Train and the Build Team take a thousand children to the battlefield. The Human Element She continued to scan for Fortress Maximus' location, but was hampered by the Autobot's shielding. Finally, after Koji's friend Karl was kidnapped by the Predacons, she was able to locate the titan in a forest. Mistaken Identity

Finally the Decepticons located the Autobot base and began to attack. T-AI alerted all of the Autobots to go to designated co-ordinates so that Optimus could lead the Decepticons into a trap. Surprise Attack! She monitored the battle from base, contacting Omega Prime when Galvatron used his cyber-bats to seize control of the Earth's children. She activated the Global Space Bridge so the Autobots could retreat, but was too late to warn them when Galvatron ruptured the tunnel wall to flood it with molten rock. Galvatron's Revenge At Omega Prime's command, she opened space bridge portals to the Earth's core and sealed them after he had led Galvatron through for a last confrontation. Fortunately Koji was able to mobilise Earth's children via the Internet and send a massive amount of power to Prime, enabling him to win the fight, though T-AI told him that Prime was still trapped.

Fortunately the energy from Galvatron's defeat had reopened the Global Space Bridge, allowing Omega Prime to escape the Earth's core. The Autobots began enjoying a look around, though T-AI had to tell Skid-Z to slow down. The Final Battle (RID)

Ultra Magnus...to the Rescue?
When Scourge and Sky-Byte attempted to steal an experimental nuclear generator from a plant in Arizona, T-AI tried to find any Autobots who were available to respond to the situation. Ultimately, Optimus Prime was the only one not currently occupied by some other emergency. Ultra Magnus...to the Rescue?
* Ai-chan (KT Figure Collection, 2004)

: This figurine was produced by KT Figure Collection, and included in a set of four others. It is notable in that not only is this the only non-Generation 1 PVC in the entire set, but Ai-chan is portrayed bathing in a hot spring, and is thus completely nude, aside from her hat. A super deformed Super Fire Convoy is seen peeking over the side, and a miniature Gelshark bath toy is in Ai-chan's hands.

: Yes, it's creepy. And you may find her face is familiar, BECAUSE the figure is designed by Yūki Ōshima, who did the creepiest thing in the Transformers brand ever.

Trivia
* Whenever T-AI makes radio contact with any off-base Autobots, she initiates it by pressing a sequence of buttons on a keypad. Considering that these elements are all a part of the same computer, T-AI is in fact projecting and controlling the holographic representation of herself and making it use the keypad that controls T-AI, herself. She is effectively telling herself to tell herself what to do. If you also factor in the fact that the hologram is totally incorporeal, and therefore cannot actually make contact with the keypad, then the assorted beeps and lights that seemingly indicate when the buttons are being pressed are actually being controlled from within T-AI like a player piano, and therefore don't need to be pressed even if the hologram could press them. This gives me a headache.

* In the Car Robots continuity, Ai-chan is a "Spherical Computer", akin to Vector Sigma of Generation 1, and NAVI and Envoy of Beast Wars II.

* T-AI is clearly the inspiration for the Ai Kuruma character in the Binaltech Asterisk line.

Sapient alien robots and humans can be friends, once they are able to communicate with each other. There is no reason this should not be, if we are to assume the existence of sapient alien robots; beings with the ability to reflect on "life, the universe, and everything" would have a lot in common.

One definite lack of commonality, however, is the ability to reproduce together. Metal robots and flesh creatures just can't have babies, no matter how hard they try. The physiology is simply not compatible. (Several authoritative works have been written on relevant aspects of human biology. Readers are advised to seek them out for further reference.) Since the urge to engage in sex is often a major contributor to romantic interest, it may seem unusual for this attraction to exist between a robot and a fleshling — and yet, throughout Transformers fiction, such examples do exist.

To write them off as silly plot contrivances is easy. It is, however, also easy to write off large sections of the fiction as silly contrivances, which leads us down a dangerous path. Therefore we must assume that, impractical and absurd as it may be, these incompatible species must be similar enough mentally to make romantic attraction, even in the absence of sexual compatibility, possible.

A list of notable Transformer-fleshling pairs where an inter-species romance was either hinted at or outright stated, is given below.
The 2006 Takara's Kiss Players introduced a whole line of Transformer/human pairings (that were somehow even more disturbing).

The fact that most of these pairings are between nominally-male robots and apparently-female fleshlings can in part be blamed on the scarcity of female Transformers. (The default assumption of heterosexuality is also part of it; the day when we have a canonical gay robot-fleshling romance in Transformers is probably still a long way off, although Magnificus and Ga'mede are pretty danged slashy. We've already got robot-robot and human-human pairings, so why not?)
:Optimus Prime is an Autobot Transcendent Technomorph from the TransTech continuity.

As a young archivist, Optimus Prime saw the corruption of his government as a tragic pitfall that impeded the language of hope. Though his trade versed him well in the sordid history of Cybertron and the imperfect rules who guided it, he nonetheless believed in the power of the system.

Eventually, thanks to his rousing and inspirational speeches about hope, unity, and justice, Optimus Prime became part of that system, and with Megatron's help, he was able to purge the corrupt officials who had damaged it. Now, Prime leads the Cybertronian High Senate, while Commander Megatron has forged a parallel path in the military. Prime sometimes doubts Megatron's intentions and is worried that he might be abusing his power, but so far, Prime's idealism overrules his skepticism. Prime's ultimate goal is to make Axiom Nexus a shining beacon to the countless war-torn universes he's studied, and starting trouble within his own administration would undercut his message of unity.

Though he is a government official, Optimus Prime is not without weaponry. Each shoulder houses a generator that allows him to summon directed currents of radiation that will cause his targets to short circuit and deactivate. His massive forearms are likewise filled with various armaments, and his entire body is heavily armored. He is his Cybertron's current Matrix-bearer.

Fiction
TransTech
Tyger Pax's vast historical records started Optimus on his thirst for knowledge. As an archivist, he read everything he could, from its constant struggles to maintain peace, to extra-dimensional threats, to the seemingly unbreakable cycle of political corruption. Despite all this, he believed that one day his Cybertron could be an example to the less-fortunate Cybertrons of other dimensions, and so Optimus began to speak out. He was a gifted orator, and so followers began to gather around him from all political sides. Even the more military-minded Decepticons began to listen, especially a young mech named Megatron. Together, they forged an alliance that carried them upwards through their respective hierarchies of power.

It was after a short term in the Binary House and a quick ascension to the High Senate that Optimus and Megatron uncovered a vast conspiracy that linked Sentinel Prime to the Liege Maximo. So severe was this revelation that it nearly destroyed the entire government and the peace it had maintained for so long. However, in its wake, as numerous officials were crowded into prison, Optimus was promoted to Prime. He strives to govern with the fairness and civility that he preached about all those years ago, and to bring a new Golden Age of hope to Cybertron, and so far, he's largely succeeded.

Optimus Prime and the rest of the High Senate granted an audience to two "outworlders" who had requested a conversation with Optimus. Though the two outworlders, Path Finder and Bug Bite, were victims of a multiversal cataclysm on an exploratory mission and had arrived wrongly in Axiom Nexus, Megatron viewed them with cold contempt and suspicion. While Prime had compassion for the stranded mechanoids, his legal hands were tied, and, as Megatron would remind him, rightfully so. Their plight was nothing compared to the potential dangers they offered. Optimus wished the outworlders well in their new home. Withered Hope

Meanwhile, other mechanoids of interest had landed in Axiom Nexus. Through Senator Ratbat, Megatron sought permission to attempt more invasive procedures, for killing Breakaway could lead to significant breakthroughs in learning. Optimus Prime would have nothing to do with it. He considered their desired actions to be murderous. Transcendent: Part 4

Optimus Prime was next seen responding to a situation at the Transwarp Complex in Axiom Nexus. A group of rogues led by Alpha Trion had broken into the complex and assaulted Shockwave and Megatron and several others, and Optimus Prime arrived with Cheetor, Starscream, and Silverbolt. Ultimately, Alpha Trion's group was able to escape through a gateway into another dimension. Transcendent: Part 6
* Optimus Prime's design was originally created when Transtech was a planned sequel to Beast Machines, and as such, it was possibly originally intended to be the same character as either Beast Wars/Beast Machines Optimus Primal or Generation 1 Optimus Prime. Since Fun Publications' TransTech stories take place in their own universe, it is likely this Optimus no longer has any overt ties to other Optimi.
* He would have been our first munkytruk.

* Optimus Prime's ardent studies, his beliefs, his inspirational speeches about hope and unity, his quick term in the Binary House and subsequent rise to the highest position of power after ousting a corrupt administration...all seem closely inspired by the life of Republican Presidents. It may seem at first coincidental, but even his profile's quote paraphrases Republican speechs"Today, we are not Autobots and Decepticons, Maximals and Predacons. Today we are all Cybertronians." So, uh, who is Megatron supposed to be?
They combine all the time anyway, either because Magnus can't deny his noble Autobot nature, or because if Prime gets blown to tiny bits, the Matrix could get blown to tiny bits with him.

Ultra Magnus was created by Alpha Trion and brought online at the exact same moment as his "brother", Optimus Prime. They both served with distinction during the Cybertronian Civil Wars, presumably against the Predacons. Afterwards, when the time came for Vector Sigma (also referred to as the Allspark in this continuity) to choose a new Matrix Bearer and Autobot Leader, Magnus was passed over in favor of Optimus. Magnus was infuriated by this, and left Cybertron immediately afterwards. He became increasingly embittered, both towards his brother and mainstream Autobots in general, causing him to come off as something of a loner and anti-hero when dealing with them.

Some time later, he tracked down his brother to the planet he was currently charged with protecting, Earth. There, he first encountered the Decepticons and singlehandedly defeated them all, even when they combined into Ruination, becoming the first being to beat Ruination without any sort of help. Ultra Magnus (episode) He then challenged Optimus Prime for possession of the Matrix of Leadership and command of the Autobots. Optimus refused to fight his brother, however, not that that stopped Ultra Magnus from blasting him with his Arm Cannon. Optimus was only saved by the intervention of Side Burn, Prowl and X-Brawn, who rescued their commander and transported him to a remote island to recuperate. It was there that Optimus revealed to Side Burn his relationship to Ultra Magnus, much to the young Autobot's shock. Unfortunately, the Predacon Sky-Byte had used a hidden tracking device to locate Optimus Prime, and he, Megatron and the Decepticons ganged up on the weakened Autobot leader. Ultra Magnus then showed up, having followed Sky-Byte, and forced Optimus Prime to merge with him, becoming Omega Prime, with the intention of absorbing the Matrix's power. However, he was shocked to discover that Optimus Prime had just as much control over Omega Prime as he did, and they were forced to cooperate to use their combined form's firepower to drive off the Decepticons. Ultra Magnus: Forced Fusion!

Although he remained a free agent, Ultra Magnus would come to the aid of the Autobots whenever he felt they required assistance, though he was always quick to deny that he actually cared for their safety. He also often combined with Optimus when the situation required it. These frequent combinations apparently had some unexpected side effects, as Ultra Magnus seemed to unconsciously channel the energies of the Matrix into the Autobot brothers, upgrading them to their new "supercharged" forms. Although this was never explicitly explained in the show, afterwards, Optimus speculated that he and Magnus were now somehow "sharing" the Matrix.

Ultra Magnus once pretended to join the Decepticons in an attempt to infiltrate the group, however, this plan failed due to the interference of the Autobot brothers, who believed that Magnus had genuinely betrayed them. An all-out battle between Autobots and Predacons/Decepticons soon erupted, with Ultra Magnus proving that his true loyalties lay with the Autobots. The Two Faces of Ultra Magnus

He would constantly appear out of nowhere whenever the Autobots were in trouble, using his strength, guns and combining power to help save the day. How he always managed this is unknown, often appearing in the most unlikely of places, such as an African Desert.

By the end of the series, Optimus and Ultra Magnus had more-or-less reconciled, and merged into Omega Prime one last time to defeat Galvatron at the Earth's center, ending the conflict at last. Ultra Magnus then took custody of the prisoners aboard Fortress Maximus to return them to Cybertron. The Final Battle (RID)
Ultra Magnus...to the Rescue?
While <s>stalking</s> following Optimus in Wyoming, Magnus overheard T-AI sending the Autobot leader to a Predacon/Decepticon attack in Arizona, and resolved to take care of it himself. On arriving at the energy research facility, he swiftly took care of Armorhide and Rollbar before casually slamming Scourge into the nearest building.

When Optimus expressed concern for the humans, Scourge took it as a cue to threaten the nearest fleshling to try to force the Autobots to surrender. On Optimus's urging, Magnus reluctantly agreed, however once Scourge was distracted, the pair took the opportunity to punch him in the face, and the Decepticons retreated. Before Optimus could thank his brother, Magnus was rolling off into the sunset. Ultra Magnus...to the Rescue?

Some time after the defeat of Galvatron, Optimus Prime formed the Dimensional Patrol from the ranks of the Autobots who had stayed behind on Earth, as well as additional experts in transwarp technology, to defend the planet from those who would do it harm via the "temporal and spatial nexus" in Earth's proximity. Unfortunately, Optimus Prime, Ultra Magnus, and several members of the Dimensional Patrol were abducted by Unicron.
As Omega Prime, Prime and Magnus escaped this fate in a jailbreak set into motion by Trailbreaker and Silverbolt.
However, this was not the end of Ultra Magnus's story, for both he and his brother were abducted by the chaos-bringer himself, Unicron, and pitted against his legion of minions as part of an elaborate attempt to revitalize himself. This war ended abruptly when Unicron's physical form was destroyed in another universe, resulting in the Unicron Singularity, which threatened the very multiverse itself. Ultra Magnus and Optimus Prime were among the Transformers who were displaced in the Mini-Con Trilogy universe in the wake of this event. There they joined forces with the Autobots Sentinel Maximus, Vector Prime, and even that universe's version of their creator, Alpha Trion. When Nemesis Prime attempted to destroy Primus himself using the Dead Matrix, they intervened as Omega Prime. Later, while his brother helped Primus recover, Ultra Magnus defeated Nemesis Prime in one-on-one combat.

He later became involved in the Mini-Con Civil War that erupted on Cybertron's moons, and even fought against the reincarnated Unicron himself as Omega Prime. Balancing Act
:Magnus' alternate mode is a massive car-carrier vehicle (akin to his G1 counterpart). He is able to carry all three Autobot Brothers when in "carrier mode". In robot mode, Magnus is a rather towering figure due to his oddly long legs (made up of the carrier component to vehicle mode). His "Blue Bolts" weapon can be configured into three different modes and, when plugged into the proper connectors, generate different sound effects. A button on his back also allows for an additional shout from Magnus (in either Japanese or English, depending on the version of the toy). The Japanese release is slightly different in that it uses different missiles, lacks tampographed Autobot symbols on the sides, and features darker, metallic-flaked plastics. Magnus can combine with the large Robots in Disguise Optimus Prime toy to create Omega Prime.
