'''Maggie Madsen''' isn't very good at handling people. Her superiors think it's downright unfair that someone that young and that ''hot'' also be ''that good''. She hasn't yet figured out how to be ''tactful'' when she tells people who outrank her that they're completely wrong.

Maggie is a former analyst for the [[Wikipedia:National Security Agency|NSA]] who was fired for twice rewriting her supervisor's conclusions in reports. [[John Keller]] is aware of this, not because he knows everything, but because it's ''hilarious''—she was ''right'' both times. That kind of brilliance buys her a little slack in his book...but only a little.

Maggie now works for the [[Wikipedia:RAND|Rand Corporation]] with [[Glen Whitmann]]. She has a strong Australian accent.

She is quite possibly the only computer nerd in the world that goes to work in a miniskirt and high heels and is able to pull it off.

Maggie and her fellow analysts were present at an emergency briefing held at the Pentagon when Secretary of Defence [[John Keller|Keller]] revealed that [[SOCCENT Forward Operations Base]] in [[Qatar]] had been attacked by a [[Blackout (Movie)|mysterious and unidentified force]], leaving no survivors. Pressing the point home to the young computer experts, Keller said that their [[Decepticon|enemy]] had attempted to hack into the base's mainframe but failed, leading the government to the conclusion that they would try again. Catching's Maggie's attention was the only clue left at the base, a mysterious frequency encountered during the hack, one unlike any seen before.

While analyzing the frequency for its origin, Maggie and her team discovered a [[Frenzy (Movie)|hostile agent]] hacking into the mainframe of [[Air Force One]], accessing almost the entire US Military defense grid. With no way to stop the enemy, Maggie suggested disconnecting all their servers, which proved to be successful. Later, Maggie snuck into a confidential briefing between Keller and the Joint Chiefs of Staff. When one high-ranking officer commented that the attack might have come from North Korea or Russia, she interrupted, explaining that the capabilities of this enemy were far in advance of anything they'd ever seen. She theorized the possibility of a living organism being the culprit, but Keller was unwilling to listen unless she provided evidence to back up her claims.

Frustrated at being stonewalled by the government and the military, Maggie copied the contents of the frequency data onto an SD memory card and left the Pentagon. Arriving at her friend Glen's house, she explained to him the dire consequences she would face if she was discovered with this information, and that he was the only hacker with the skills to access the secrets embedded within. His curiosity piqued, Glen proceeded to hack into the data, discovering images and files about something called [[Megatron (Movie)|Project: Iceman]] and an organization named [[Sector Seven]]. Within the signal itself, she and Glen discovered [[Cybertronian languages|strange symbols]]. Before they could view any more information, an FBI assault team crashed through the front door and arrested everybody in his house.

Detained in a holding room at the Pentagon, Maggie observed Glen eat an entire plate of donuts while he pontificated his theory that the food was a test in character and guilt: If one did not eat the donuts, one was guilty, and he, for one, had a totally clear conscience. When Federal agents entered the room, Glen immediately cracked and accused Maggie of all the wrongdoing while casting himself in a sympathetic (if somewhat pathetic) light. Maggie told him to shut up as she explained she needed to speak to Keller and that they need to go about this crisis in a different direction before the United States went to war with the wrong country.

Much later, as Glen was recovering from his donut binge with a bottle of ''Pepto Bismol'', Keller suddenly entered the holding room, telling Maggie to come with him as an advisor. He allowed Maggie to bring Glen along as her advisor. Soon, on a Army Blackhawk helicopter bound for [[Hoover Dam]], she and Glen found themselves with two teenagers, [[Sam Witwicky|Sam]] and [[Mikaela Banes|Mikaela]]. Attempting to break the ice, Sam initiated conversation, prompting Maggie to ask him why the government got them. To Glen's astonishment, he replied that he had bought [[Bumblebee (Movie)|a car]] that turned out to be an alien robot.

Landing, the group joined up with Keller, Captain [[William Lennox]], Sergeant [[Robert Epps]] and their men, escorted by Sector Seven director [[Reggie Simmons]] and [[Tom Banachek]]. The two spooks explained that they were all here because they'd been exposed to the [[N.B.E.]]s, a.k.a. the alien robots. Brought to a large, top-secret chamber, the group saw [[Non-Biological Extraterrestrial|N.B.E.-1]], whom Sam identified as [[Megatron (Movie)|Megatron]], leader of the [[Decepticons]]. When he explained that Megatron was after the [[All Spark]] cube to transform all of Earth's technology into an army, Simmons brought the group to a viewing room looking over an even larger chamber encasing the massive All Spark.

To demonstrate the All Spark's power, the group was then herded into a containment room where experiments using the radiation of the All Spark were conducted. Asking for phones and electronic devices, Simmons took Glen's proffered ''Nokia'' cell phone, commenting that they were nasty stuff, yet the Japanese know the way of the samurai. Maggie incredulously (but quietly) noted that ''Nokia'' is from Finland, to which Keller responded (also quietly) that while that was true, if she hadn't noticed, Simmons was a rather strange man. Exposed to the All Spark's power, Glen's cell phone was transformed into a small, spider-like mechanical beast with a tiny machine gun and rocket launcher, which jumped at Maggie as she looked on in astonishment. Griping that the beast was breaking its containment case, Simmons sent an enormous electrical shock into the creature, killing it. Soon after, Hoover Dam came under attack by the Decepticons, intent on freeing Megatron.

Needing to get word out to the US Air Force while traditional communications were down, Keller, Simmons, Glen and Maggie rushed to an archive storage room where there was an old radio. However, they soon discovered that while the radio worked, it had no microphone. Maggie suggested to Glen that they hotwire a computer into the radio to send out a tone that they could use as Morse code to contact the military. As Glen did so, [[Frenzy (Movie)|a Decepticon]] attacked, forcing Maggie to help barricade the door and load shells into antique shotguns for Keller. Simmons passed her a shotgun as he blasted the Decepticon with a flamethrower. The small enemy sneaked in via the air ducts and attacked the group with machine guns as Maggie, Keller and Simmons fought back. Eventually, Glen successfully managed to contact the Air Force just as an errant CD-razor projectile fired by the Decepticon destroyed its own head, (presumably) killing it. {{Storylink|Transformers (2007)}}

==Synopsis==
The book begins with the history of Cybertron's destruction at the hands of Megatron, and his quest to obtain the All Spark. Megatron discovers the All Spark on Earth, but crash-lands in the Arctic Circle, becoming frozen in the ice. Captain Archibald Witwicky and his crew of explorers stumble upon Megatron's body in the late 19th century. Megatron's navigational system is unintentionally activated, and Archibald's eye glasses are imprinted with the coordinates to the All Spark's location. Sector 7, a secret organization of the United States government, discovers the All Spark and builds the Hoover Dam around it to mask the energy signal. The still-frozen Megatron is moved into this facility, and is reverse engineered to further advance human technology.

In the present day, the rest of the Decepticons — Blackout, Scorponok, Frenzy, Barricade, Starscream, Bonecrusher, and Devastator — have already landed on Earth and assumed the disguise of Earth vehicles. Blackout and Scorponok attack a U.S. military base in Qatar in an effort to use the military database to discover the location of Megatron and the All Spark, but they do not succeed. A small group of survivors from the military base attack wander through the desert and are attacked by Scorponok. The Autonomous Robotic Life Form (shortened to "Autobot") known as Bumblebee is also on Earth, disguised as a 1977 Chevrolet Camaro, and looking for Sam Witwicky, the descendant of Captain Archibald Witwicky. As soon as he locates Sam, the two quickly begin to bond as Bumblebee helps Sam try and woo his crush, Mikaela Banes; Sam is unaware of the fact that Bumblebee is an alien, until he witnesses Bumblebee transform and send out a homing signal for the rest of the Autobots. After Blackout's failure, Frenzy infiltrates Air Force One and discovers that Sam possesses the map that will lead the Decepticons to the All Spark. Frenzy and Barricade begin tracking Sam's location.

Barricade confronts Sam, demanding Archibald's glasses. Bumblebee, who is following Sam, transforms and battles Barricade. Mikaela, who is also following Sam, is caught in the crossfire, and leaves with Sam and Bumblebee to rendezvous with the rest of the Autobots. The Autobots — Optimus Prime, Jazz, Ironhide, and Ratchet — land on Earth and take on the forms of several Earth vehicles. Sam, Mikaela, and the Autobots return to Sam's home to retrieve the glasses. However, agents from Sector 7 arrive to take Sam and Mikaela into custody. Bumblebee is also apprehended, against the pleas of Sam who assures the agents - to no avail - that he means them no harm.

Frenzy secretly accompanies the group to the Hoover Dam, and releases Megatron from cryogenic stasis. Locating the All Spark, he sends out an alert to the rest of the Decepticons. Megatron escapes, and Sam convinces the Sector 7 agents to release Bumblebee so that he can get the All Spark to Optimus Prime. The Decepticons chase the Autobots, who now possess the All Spark, into a neighboring city. An ensuing battle results in casualties for both sides, with Sam destroying Megatron and the All Spark when he rams it into Megatron's chest. The remains of the Decepticons are cast into the Laurentian Abyss. With no other home to go to - Cybertron having been destroyed by Megatron - the Autobots decide to stay on Earth, and Optimus sends out a signal across space in an effort to locate any surviving Autobots, while Sam and Mikaela begin a relationship. Starscream, one of the Decepticons that survived the battle, leaves Earth.

==Comments/Notes==
Several scenes differ between the film and novel. These include:
* [[Jorge Figueroa|Fig]] doesn't talk in Spanish during the Osprey ride and later dies on the plane taking [[William Lennox|Lennox]] and his men back to America.
*[[Judy Witwicky|Sam's mom]] DOES NOT make any reference to [[Samuel James Witwicky|a certain embarrassed boy]] masturbating. Which is a good thing.
*When [[Ratchet (Movie)|Ratchet]] scans Sam and [[Mikaela Banes|the hot chick with him]], he reveals their undergarments. Weird.
*[[Optimus Prime (Movie)|The lead good guy]] and [[Megatron (Movie)|bad guy]] actually call each other "brother."
*During the battle in [[Mission City| some city]], the energy released when the [[All Spark]] (called the Energon Cube) hit the ground caused ''lots'' of video game consoles to become transformers. Interestingly, ''guns'' can become transformers if in range of the cube's energy.
*Strangely, the novel had the final battle take place in Las Vegas instead of Mission City.
*Sam and Mikaela don't makeout on top of Bumblebee at the end, although they do kiss in the school parking lot.
*[[Starscream (Movie)|Starscream]] has a chat with Megatron at [[Hoover Dam|the dam]] where they seem to be on good terms. Later, he doesn't fight the F22s over the city and flies to space.
*[[Brawl (Movie)|Devastator]] appears out of no where during the city battle.
*[[Jazz (Movie)|Jazz]] has his spark ripped out by Megatron instead of being torn in half by him.
*Strangely, the movie nor its adaptations explain how global communications were restored or how long it took for it to happen (or anything that happened beyond the events involving the Transformers). They all also assume that no one used a camera phone to record the battle and post it on the Internet after it was restored.
*The Autobots conversation before going to Hoover Dam explains why they were using English: Prime planned for Earth to be their new home, after destroying the All Spark.
*[[Jazz (Movie)|Jazz]] doesn't talk street in the novel.
