For generations, Optimus Prime ruled [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]] side-by-side with [[Megatron (Movie)|Megatron]]. The two personalities created a balance; Prime was fair while Megatron was firm. However, when Megatron revealed his intentions to steal the [[Allspark]] and use it for evil, selfish gain, Prime reacted accordingly. He built a militia from the civilians around him, but they faired terribly against Megatron's armies. Ultimately, Prime was forced to eject the Allspark into space to keep it from his nemesis.

Thus the focus of the war between Autobot and Decepticon shifted. The Allspark's ejection was only a stall. The leader of the Autobots, Optimus Prime came to Earth shortly after [[Bumblebee (Movie)|Bumblebee]] sent his comrades a beacon. After scanning the form of an Earth truck and reconfiguring his body to transform into it, Prime, [[Jazz (Movie)|Jazz]], [[Ratchet (Movie)|Ratchet]], and [[Ironhide (Movie)|Ironhide]] met up with Bumblebee and his human friends, [[Sam Witwicky]] and [[Mikaela Banes]] in an alley. Transforming before the stunned humans, he introduced himself, his team, and why Sam is important to their search for the [[All Spark]].

Glasses that belonged to Sam's ancestor, [[Captain Archibald Witwicky]], contain the location of the All Spark encoded across its lenses, so Optimus Prime ordered his troops to wait outside Sam's house while Sam and Mikaela searched inside for the glasses. Much to Sam's exasperation, Optimus Prime, in his impatience, clumsily ruined his parents' garden, and the Autobots' heavy footsteps convinced them there was an earthquake. Despite all this, their presence remained undetected until [[Sector Seven]] arrived (in a convoy of GMC Yukon's) and abducted Sam, Mikaela, and Sam's parents.

Optimus Prime sent the Autobots in pursuit of the SUV that contained Sam, Mikaela, and Sector Seven's director, [[Agent Simmons]]. Their young human friends were rescued, but Bumblebee was captured, and Sam and Mikaela recaptured, by the organization after their retreat. Optimus Prime, now in possession of the glasses which can tell him the location of the All Spark, regrettably leaves Bumblebee in Sector Seven's hands, knowing that if they go after him, they cannot destroy the Allspark. The glasses place the All Spark at [[Hoover Dam]] where, luckily, Bumblebee and the young humans were taken. Optimus Prime's team meets up with Sector Seven, Bumblebee, Sam, and Mikaela en route, who have planned to hide the Allspark in a nearby city. When Optimus tells Sam to put the allspark into his chest Sam instead shoves it into Megatrons chest killing Megatron to which Optimus tells him he owes him his life.

:Based upon the 'Protoform' (Cybertronian) appearances of the Transformers in the Movie, Protoform Optimus Prime transforms into his 'Entry' mode cybertronic comet thing. This mode somewhat resembles a cybertronic truck, with false wheels sculpted onto the sides, and Optimus Prime's trademark windows in front. A flame decoration piece fits to the back of the 'vehicle', creating the illusion of a flaming comet's tail. The bottom of the vehicle has small wheels to roll the toy across smooth surfaces. Oddly, it has NO [[automorph]] gimmick at all, a feature most main-line figures have.

At this point yellow LEDs light up the chest windows and Optimus Prime's eyes, accompanied by a 'powering up' sound effect.

The movie features Sam, a teenage human of the [[Witwicky]] family. He's 16 years old, and his father, [[Ron Witwicky|Ron]], agrees to buy him half a car. At [[Bobby Bolivia]]'s used car lot, he ends up buying half the alien robot Bumblebee. As the story begins, Bumblebee is the only member of the heroic Autobot faction on [[Earth]] as the evil Decepticons move around undercover, searching for secret [[United States of America|US]] government information on the whereabouts of their leader, [[Megatron (Movie)|Megatron]], who went missing from the Transformers' home planet of Cybertron more than 12,000 years ago. He was in pursuit of the All Spark, a nigh-omnipotent monolith capable of bringing any machines near it to life, and the Decepticons want it back to create an army.

The movie cuts between four subplots, revolving around Sam and his love interest [[Mikaela Banes]], a group of United States Air Force personnel led by Captain [[William Lennox]] in [[Qatar]], a confused Secretary of Defense [[John Keller]] who doesn't know what to make of the attacks on the US government by these "robuts" until a Man in Black from [[Sector Seven]] lets him know that aliens exist, and a pair of cryptographers. Prior to the movie's release [[IDW]] Publishing released a four issue limited comic series entitled "[[Prime Directives]]", which chronicles the events which bring the Transformers to [[Earth]]. A novel, ''[[Transformers: Ghosts of Yesterday]]'', is about the truth behind humankind's first venture into space and how that event is related to the Transformers' presence on Earth, both past and present.

Since the movie's plot brings the audience into things from Sam's POV, as he learns of not only the Transfomers' war but mankind's past history with Cybertronians, the prequel material provides a better handle on the intricate storyline.

'''Cliffjumper''' hates traitors. And anybody could be a traitor. Therefore, Cliffjumper hates everybody. It's unclear if he hates traitors more than he hates [[Decepticon]]s, but it's at least a neck-and-neck thing.

He makes a habit of pulling ridiculously huge guns from [[Exhaust port|nowhere]] and attacking impulsively despite orders or sanity. Somehow, this gets him neither killed nor demoted.

Cliffjumper's special weapon is his "glass gas", which embrittles metals on contact so that they shatter like glass. He is not immune to its effects, so its use requires careful consideration of wind direction. Actually, this may explain why he prefers the big guns. He doesn't seem like the calculating type.

In vehicle mode, Cliffjumper is one of the fastest ground-vehicle Autobots, if not absolutely the fastest.

However, the head of [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]] was still missing, and during an attempt to retrieve it, an impostor head took control of Prime's body, firing on Cliffjumper. Though [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]]'s orders were only to find the Decepticons, Cliffjumper brashly tried to engage the enemy once Hound sniffed them out.

It worked out in the end, though, since Cliffjumper was remorseful for having acted without thinking, and Hound didn't hold a grudge anyway.

Megatron dogged Cliffjumper for quite a while but ended up losing to the Minibot. Cliffjumper won the race and everybody smiled, even Optimus Prime.
